Foucault s Influence On Political Theory

Political Theory Essay
John Hultgren
10/30/2014
Essay Foucault is a very famous name when it comes to political theory. In our contemporary theory
politics course, one of the required reading materials was Foucault s Discipline and Punish. Foucault
had these very strong ideas about punishment, especially about, the modern penal system or otherwise
known as prison. Foucault was very analytic about discipline and punishment prior to the eighteenth
century. In the beginning of Discipline and Punish, Foucault explains how prior to the eighteenth
century, punishment was something that was used as severe torture to the human body, as well as
explaining how when people were punished, punishments usually were public and or ceremonial.
Foucault had strong ideas and he mentioned some very important terms to make his argument. To help
the reader of this essay, some very important key terms will be defined. These key terms include,
knowledge, power, discipline, panopticism, and politics. Hopefully these key terms can help the reader
understand Foucault s beliefs and ideas, as well as the second part of the essay where Foucault s ideas
will be related to modern day pop culture. Two very important terms that are the foundation of
Foucault s work are, knowledge and power. The root of Foucault s analytic would be those two
previous words. Foucault does not view power as a negative thing, because he believes it is something
that is always going to exist. Foucault

Aligarh s First Generation By David Lelyveld
Aligarh s First Generation By David Lelyveld Review The book Aligarh s First Generation by David
Lelyveld is a case study of the Muhammadan Anglo Oriental College , today known as the Aligarh
Muslim University , in its first twenty five years of inception, i.e., from 1875 1900. The book explores
the nature of Muslim cultural identity in India in the nineteenth century, and the changes it may have
undergone in the context of colonial rule. It was the period when the first generation of Muslims
educated in English graduated from the college. The author begins in the preface by presenting the
context of the book by describing the college. The Muhammadan Anglo Oriental College was also
known as Madrasat ul ulum Musalmanan . It was a residential ... Show more content on

Its British patrons, who ended up exerting more influence on Aligarh than its founder had intended,
hoped that the new college would create a class of educated Muslims who would be more loyal to the
British and less inclined to agitation than their educated Hindu counterparts. By 1875, when Aligarh
was founded, many British officials were becoming disillusioned with the English educated, Hindu
babu class. Their shrewd adoption of British po litical techniques for the mobilization of public
opinion, their creation of a powerful and all too vocal native press, their campaigns for more civil
service places, made them thorns in the side of a government that had hoped that education would turn
them into docile and appropriately grateful subjects. Members of the Muslim community, if they could
only be persuaded to support the British wholeheartedly, promised to be stauncher allies because this
line of reasoning ran they needed the protection of the British if they were not to be overwhelmed by
the Hindus. It seemed unlikely that English education would tempt them to agitate for representative
government of the British type, because in almost every electoral contest, Muslims stood to be
outvoted. There is no need to impute sinister motives of divide et impera to the British to comprehend
why they sought the favor of leading Muslims and made a show of supporting Aligarh during its
insecure early days. The consequence was that Aligarh, unlike most Indian managed colleges, could
count on indulgent government inspectors, regular and sustained govern ment grants, and still more
tellingly, on the support of successive British officials who journeyed to its dusty campus, in the spirit
of a pilgrimage, to deliver solemn orations there extolling Anglo Muslim solidarity. It is worth noting
that Aligarh was one of the few appropriate forums for such speeches. They could not conceivably
have been delivered

Huckleberry Finn Documentary Analysis
When discussing Mark Twain, there are often aspects about him and his life in general that are
controversial and unclear. Ken Burns documentary not only provides an in depth analysis of Mark
Twain s life, but also provides clarity to some of those highly disputed questions. An example of one
of these questions that Burns frequently addresses is if Mark Twain s life was as interesting and
significant as it is suggested to be. Ken Burns addresses this by establishing throughout the
documentary that Mark Twain is a loveable and complex human being and backs this up with many
different examples. The complexity of his life is shown in the documentary by all of the immense
hardships and success that Twain encounters in his life. One of the many hardships that Twain endured
during his life was when his daughter Suzie got sick and passed away while he was traveling with his
wife ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After learning a lot about his many contrasting life experiences, I increasingly found myself admiring
him for a couple different reasons. One reason is that his life wasn t perfect and golden as most people
believe it to be. Before he made it as a writer, he was very unsuccessful and even contemplated suicide
from time to time. I am not implying that trying to kill yourself makes you a better person, however, it
does serve as an example of Twain having a very rough upbringing and life before his immense fame.
Whilst reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, I felt somewhat negatively towards Twain s
character, mostly because of the horribly racist things that he wrote. I understood that these situations
and lines were critical to the story, but I can t deny that some of it was hard to stomach. This said,
Burns documentary really gave some needed depth to Twain s character that made him a lot more
likable and

The Frogs
Aristophanes The Frogs was first performed at the festival of Dionysus in 504BC, a year before the
end of the Peloponnesian war, and was so well received it not only won the competition for comedy,
but was also given an encore taking the form of a second performance in that same year. At the time of
the plays performance Athens was run by an assembly of its citizens, in some ways comparable to a
modern democracy, where any man who had completed two years of military service was able to vote.
Politics therefore was an important part of Athenian life, with many young men studying the art of
debating, something reflected in The Frogs by its many references and illusions to political figures. It
is hard to doubt that in his play Aristophanes intended to educate or inform his audience, especially
considering the plays many allusions to the advisory role of poets. The objective of this essay
therefore is not to answer the question does Aristophanes inform, educate and entertain his audience in
the frogs but to identify both where and how he does so, both linguistically and structurally. The
problem with this however is that any talk about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the parabasis the chorus leader exits the dance and, either partially or fully taking on the voice of
the poet, addresses the audience directly. It is hard to doubt that in his inclusion of a parabasis
Aristophanes intended to take on the advisory role of a poet. In his article A lesson From Frogs
Geoffrey Arnott argued that Aristophanes used the parabasis in Frogs to advocate for two different
policies: the pardoning of those exiled after the oligarchic revolution of 411 10, and the formation of a
government led by the noblest families in Attica . Whether you agree or disagree with Arnott s specific
claims, it is clear that in his parabasis Aristophanes seeks to educate and inform his audience into

Transition From Transitional Lava Types
Transition From Pahoehoe to A a
In its most general sense, as the flow advances away from the vent, core temperature decreases
leading to an increase in viscosity and ultimately marks a transition from pahoehoe to a a. This point
of transition is most often referred to as the transition threshold (Peterson Tilling, 1980). Lava which
continues to deform even after it has become highly viscous, may reach this threshold and
subsequently changes to a a. There are many factors which govern this change, and will be discussed
in the proceeding section.
Transitional lava types have been studied, such as the rubbly pahoehoe observed from the Laki flows,
Iceland, of 1783 84 (Guilbaud, 2005), and slab pahoehoe on Kilauea (Peterson Tilling, ... Show more

Due to this regard, it was first considered to be impossible (MacDonald, 1953).
Factors Controlling Emplacement of Pahoehoe A a flow
As discussed above, pahoehoe morphology forms from hotter, more fluid lava, and a a from critically
stressed and highly viscous lava. As already alluded to, Peterson Tilling (1980) recognised an inverse
relationship between viscosity and shear rate; if viscosity is low, a high rate of shear is required to
begin transition to a a, giving rise to its characteristic brecciated surface. Likewise, if viscosity is high,
a lower rate of shear will induce a transition. This section will discuss the most significant factors
governing the transition.
Effusion Rates
During a magmatic episode, a high discharge rate of magma is likely to produce lava fountaining high
into the air. It is inferred that the higher the fountaining, the more exposure the lava has to cool air,
thus increasing its viscosity. Further, with a high flow rate, lava continues to move even if viscosity
and yield stress is high. This continues up to a point at which surface disruptions can no longer be
healed , and the transition threshold is duly reached.
Rowland (1990) is one such advocate, attributing differences in lava type on Kilauea to differences in
volumetric flow rate. Rowland concluded that:

Cultural Wars In America
Prevalence of cultural wars has been in societies having individuals who have different beliefs,
cultural settings and more specifically a way of life. American society at the moment has experienced
a lot of cultural wars, as seen in recent disputes over certain issues such as marriage of the same sex
and abortion. To have a good explanation to the aliens, it is necessary to understand historical aspect
and give an assessment of how the differences came about together with their effect on the perception
of significant national issues. For United Kingdom and United States, it has been traced that cultural
wars is due to different views of traditionalists and liberalists. Basically the two groups have been

Some of the key denominations offered support to the movements in terms of finances and intellectual
support, leaders of these churches were great speakers and they delivered a lot of inspiration to the
struggle of civil rights. Black churches also played a critical role in bringing together many of those
who supported the movement (Corbett 242). It is evident that Christianity contributed heavily to
fighting for freedom in the era of Civil Rights Movement. During the time, there was freedom of
religion in United States and this formed the basis of seeking for independence. There is close
association between having freedom to religion and attaining liberty in general. Christianity and the
church was a significant symbol for those fighting for freedom. The church acted as a central point
where individuals could gather together and chat way forward on how they would attain freedom.
Leaders in church were in the front line in advocating for freedom to civil rights probably because of
their religious beliefs. The movement was motivated through the Christians beliefs that they were

Castaway Movie Analysis-Journeys
Castaway , directed by Robert Zemeckis, is a 2001 film starring Tom Hanks. Hanks stars as Chuck
Noland, a FedEx delivery man whose life is headed in the right direction , until his plane crashes and
he is stranded on an island. He must adapt to his new life on the island; overcoming many obstacles in
order to survive. Castaway explores three different journeys; physical, inner and imaginative. Chuck
Noland is a filmic representation of the philosophy of time equals money equals fulfilment. Zemeckis

to create a connection between the audience and Chuck. The physical journey in Castaway is Chuck s

His determination and faith serve to evoke optimism within the responder and it gives them hope that
Chuck will continue to survive until he gets off the island. The impact time has on his life is also
evident when he is admonishing FedEx employees. He states We live or we die by the clock. Never
allow ourselves to commit the sin of losing track of time. He says the same thing to the volleyball,
Wilson, when he is planning their escape off the island. The context of when he says it changes the
meaning of this quote. The first time it is said he is passionately trying to get workers to be more
efficient and the quote is an exaggeration. The second time Chuck makes this remark, death is actually
a serious option. Although the timing of his escape is important to him, time is not what is driving him
anymore, instead his desire to get back to Kelly. The volleyball, Wilson, becomes Chuck s only
companion on the island. Wilson is Chuck s need for companionship personified. Wilson is a part of
Chuck as Wilson s face is made of his blood and is the physical manifestation of Chuck s mental state.
I know you. Chuck repeats to Wilson and this signifies that Chuck is aware that Wilson is a part of
him while demonstrating Chuck trying to reassure himself of who he is. When Wilson is lost at sea,
Chuck is devastated at losing his friend and one of the only things kept him sane on the island. Chuck
s palpable anguish evokes sympathy and grief within the responder.

Essay On Personal Reflection
Introduction Learning and participating in workshops provides one with an opportunity to gain
knowledge. The knowledge gained is beneficial to the individual when put into practice, otherwise,
that knowledge is futile. However, one can only apply the information gained through better
information processing and synthesis. One of the approaches used in evaluating the effectiveness of
the information gained involves undertaking an in depth personal reflection. The purpose of this
investigation is to conduct an in depth personal reflection on one area of personal strength emanating
from the workshops carried out throughout the year. Definition of Personal Strength To evaluate one s
strengths, one needs to undertake a range of tests. Already, there exist a plethora of approaches to
evaluate the strengths within oneself. Some of these tests include personal intuitions and preferences.
However, undertaking a professional evaluation is important to ensure consistency. One of the most
important tools to evaluate one s personal strengths is the Myers Briggs Type Indicators (Bower 2015;
Culp Smith 2009; Das Sharma, 2015). In particular, this evaluation protocol allows an individual to
see the person within other than the behavior. Primarily, the inner personality influences the outward
behavior. Moreover, the environment plays an important role in the behavioral approach.
Consequently, performing a focused investigation provides a better evaluation metric. Furthermore,
the Myers Briggs Type Indicator allows an individual to conceptualize both internal and external
factors and the decisions made under such environments. After a careful evaluation, I have realized
that organization or orderliness is my personal strength. In part, planning plays a central role in most
of the decisions made (Cui Wu 2016). Essentially, I feel that whenever the time is spent on the
planning stage, the implementation and evaluation of a process become easier. However, failure to
plan leads to delays in the implementation process. Particularly, a lot of delays in the implementation
process are attributable to the order of activities. In other cases, people try to undertake more than one
activity simultaneously as a time saving strategy.

Analysis Of The Public Enemy And Scarface
Films have been around for a very long time starting from the silent era leading to the classical phase
up until today, and with time comes change and adapt to what s current and popular. However, one
thing that has stayed constant are the upcoming of film genre. One of the primary ways to identify and
differentiate films are by their genres and styles. This lays out the foundation of the film using many
factors like iconography, language, conflicts, lighting and story plot. One of the most iconic styles in
the cinematic world would have to be the typical gangster films. Two of the most recognizable
gangster films of their time were the Public Enemy (1931), along with the film Scarface (1983).
Although these two films were shot in completely different eras of the U.S. we see both encounter the
same stages in life despite the time change. This goes to show that these two films strongly
symbolizes and demonstrates just what the gangster genre is all about in terms of social context,
themes, conflict and iconography. This classical landmark film, The Public enemy, introduces the
social context of gangster films around the same time Prohibition and the Great Depression really
started to take a toll on lives. While the later well known film, Scarface, was placed in the era of mass
immigration from Cuba to Florida, with the growth in popularity of the drug cocaine . Due to these
two films, people become fascinated with the idea of wealth and power both found in the typical

Role Of Motivation In American Beauty
The film American Beauty is a motivational and inspirational movie based around the modern day to

introspective on the emotional and mental challenges that the average person goes through internally
that challenge them and who they are. While all of the characters have their own background and
context behind their motivations in life the main character s is by far the most interesting. Lester
Burnham is a middle aged man who is living an unfulfilled life. He has family problems, work
problems, no friends and no aspiration. During the movie he is depicted as being a very timid, lonely,
and unmotivated man. Although going through these emotionally draining experiences of a dead end
job and loneliness he manages to find a catalyst that helps him escape his depression and find who he
truly can become. This catalyst is his daughters close friend Angela of whom he creates an infatuation

The Importance Of Being A Good Person
What does it mean to be a good person? This question has been asked millions of times since the
beginning of time, which is why it is one of the most discussed topics in everyday life. Individuals that
delve into the art of philosophy find themselves seeking the truth about the morals and values one
should have in life to be considered a good person. Morals are the fundamental standards of right and
wrong in society such as the Ten Commandments in the Bible. Values, on the other hand, are an
individual s perspective on what is right or wrong. In the book Values in Thought and Action, David
Lipe sheds light on the idea of moral value. He states that if one were to follow all the rules and
principles perfectly he would probably not be judged as a morally good person, moreover we desire
that one possess such qualities as friendship, love, and loyalty (Lipe 123). Being a good person is not
merely knowing right from wrong but rather, it is having dignity, devotion, and sincerity in all that you
do. Rudyard Kipling exemplified these traits best in the poem If, which is centered on the values one
should have in order to be regarded as a moral individual. When attempting to make a definitive list of
the values one must obtain to be considered moral, it is important to remember the universal virtues
handed down through history that have influenced the characters of men today. In the book Mere
Christianity by C.S. Lewis, there are four main Cardinal Virtues which all

uncomfortable, I think it was a beneficial experience because I now have a taste of what pregnancy is
like and how rough it is. I have so much more sympathy for pregnant women now because not only do
they have to experience the physical effects, they also have to experience the mental effects. I give
props to pregnant women because I don t think I d be able to handle it for nine weeks. If a teenage girl
wanted to get pregnant too, I would tell her to wear the belly for a day and see if it changes her mind.

Business Btec Level 3
Task 1.2
What is a stake holder in a business?
A stake holder in a business is somebody that can affect or be affected by the actions of the business.
Businesses have several stake holders each. Anybody associated with a business can be a stakeholder
of that business in some way.
Who are the stake holders at Morrisons PLC?
External Stakeholders
The customers The customers of Morrisons PLC are a big stakeholder in the company. It is because of
the customers that the business is able to function. The customers are able to affect Morrisons because
if they are not happy they will not shop at Morrisons but will go to one of their competitors instead.
This will harm Morrison s profit and therefore result in a decline of the business. ... Show more

The local community does not really affect Morrisons as a whole just the areas stores. If there is only
Morrisons in the local community with a lack of main competitors such as ASDA, Tesco and
Salisbury s, then it is very likely that Morrisons will be successful because the little businesses in the
area pose little threat.
Competitors The competitors of Morrisons are one of the most important stakeholders. Tesco, ASDA,
Sainsbury s and smaller businesses such as Aldi and Lidl are the top competitors of Morrisons. They
decide many factors such as prices, location, products and services that force Morrisons to change. If a
competitor decides to lower a products price, then Morrisons will most likely have to lower the price
too. If Morrisons does not do this then the competitor will sell more products and attract more
customers, some that may be currently Morrison s shoppers. Competitors can also have an effect on
where Morrisons opens a shop. If for example there are 2 Tesco stores in an area, there is not much
sense in opening a Morrisons store nearby. If a competitor of Morrisons starts selling a product that
Morrisons currently does not, it is in Morrison s interest to also supply that product. This is the same
with a service. So if for example ASDA start delivering to a specific area, then Morrisons will most
probably do so too as this can potentially lose them many customers. If a competitor decides to launch
a big advertising campaign

The Constitution Of The United States
In 1787, our founding fathers came up with a few principles that would establish what we now know
as the United States of America. These principles were put on paper to serve as a guideline for how the
United States would be operated and structured. This historical piece paper became known as the
Constitution of the United States. In the Constitution, a Preamble is implemented at the beginning that
essentially tells what the founding fathers set out to do.
We The People, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility,
provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty ...
(Preamble, U.S. Constitution)
The Preamble that was applied within the Constitution became the platform that led to different
limitations each state would have. The limitations were quoted by articles, amendments, and sections
to provide a professional and limited governmental scheme on what was expected from each state. As
the Constitution was ratified in 1788, a set of guidelines known as the Bill of Rights was implemented
as well. The difference is that the Constitution provided structure as to how the whole set up of our
system of government would be ran. So essentially, the Constitution states the appropriate amount of
houses needed to make up Congress, what powers Congress will have, and what powers the President
will have. The Bill of Rights served as rules towards what the federal government was limited to do.

The Coastline Research Paper
With approximately 85% percent of Australia s population living within 50km of it, the coastline has
always been a popular haven for human civilization. In Qld, many say that it has become
fundamentally important to us, both as a natural resource and as a means of revenue. Despite our
inclination towards them, however, coastlines are delicate and dynamic environments susceptible to
change, both of natural and of human cause as well. Now, more than ever, decisions regarding the
coastline must be measured carefully to ensure their sustainability into the future.

2.4 Success of Coastal Management Practices:
Overall, current management practices have been insufficient in protecting the wellbeing of the
coastline (i.e. the beach itself is considerably eroded, and the fence line and access routes are in
disrepair). As a consequence, the location requires more attention.
Firstly, more bins could be placed around the beach to discourage people from littering and the fence
line should be repaired. The distressed Mangroves could also be assisted in their recovery and
regrowth as they may be useful as a buffer zone in the future. Finally, there should be more dune
plantation to secure the bank and prevent further erosion, and perhaps, even the implementation of a
rock wall to prevent further coastal recession.

Investigating the Sources of Finance Essay
Investigating the Sources of Finance
I m now going to investigate the sources of finance available to you when setting up your new
business. I will separate the sources of finance needed into three categories; start up costs, running
costs and expansion costs.
When starting up your new business premises will need to be secured from which you will trade. I m
going to look at ways that you could secure premises. The first option available to you is a mortgage;
these are long term loans offered by banks or building societies based on property as collateral.
Interest must be paid on the mortgage, but this will cover the original sum and when the money has
been paid back, you become the owner of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
to purchase this machinery and equipment you will need to use medium term sources of finance.
These could be; a bank loan, this is a quick and easy source of finance, but this would mean paying
interest. Also the bank may require collateral, and the machinery and equipment may be repossessed if
loan repayments aren t met. Another source of medium term finance available to you is leasing. This
means that a firm could lease you the machinery and equipment that you will need. However, although
less initial finance is needed to obtain the assets, over time this works out more expensive than buying.
Hire purchase is similar to leasing except the firm will eventually own the assets. The assets are paid
for in instalments, whilst the business is using them, this however can bring with it major cash flow
problems, because interest payments can be very high. My recommendation when attempting to
secure a source of finance for machinery and equipment would be to get a bank loan. I recommend
this because; the machinery and equipment is instantly accessible to the business allowing it to
operate, also the interest payments aren t as high as hire purchase, and with a bank loan the assets
become the property of the business once all repayments are met.
Fixtures and Fittings are also essential when operating from the

Accounting Information and Predicting Financial Performance
Accounting Information and Predicting Financial Performance:
Accounting information can be useful in order to help predict future performance in the short and long
term. It is important to note however that accounting information including accounting ratios show a
company s performance at a period in time. It is historical data. Trends can be identified by comparing
data in sequential periods and future forecasts can be determined using historical data. There is no
evidence or proof however, that these patterns will predict the future at a level of complete certainty.

The coverage ratios use cash flow from operations in most cases. Coverage ratios are important to
long term investors and creditors because of the nature of the ratios that show the availability of cash
to pay for items that include long term debts and dividends as well calculating percentages of cash
flow from operations to shareholders equity, and average number of common shares outstanding
(Ibarra, 2009). In addition, it has been determined that the cash flow to total debt (a coverage ratio)
can be used as one of the best indicators of financial distress (Jooste, 2007). In all coverage ratios, a
high ratio and increasing trends is the best case scenario.
Regression analysis seems to be extremely useful in determining financial distress and the bankruptcy
of firms. In fact, in a particular study conducted by Bredart in 2014, it was presented that regression
analysis was able to show an 84% prediction accuracy rate in determining bankruptcy of 870 firms
between the years of 2000 and 2012 (Bredart, 2014). The independent variables used in Bredart study
included profitability (net income/total assets), liquidity (current assets/current liabilities), and
solvency (equity/total assets) while the dependent variable included financial distress.

However, also in the decades before 1992, the principle influenced to a large extent the evolution of
the European Communities.
As P. De Pasquale lines out, there had been an increasingly frequent recourse to Article 235 of the EC
treaty (later on art. 308 EC), which enhances the competences of the Community for the purpose of
crating a common market . The Community exercised its power in fields that where not explicitly
listed in any Treaty, but which it identified as sensible sectors (e.g. monetary policy). This ambiguous
development alarmed the Member States that subsequently pointed out the principle of subsidiarity, as
they wanted to secure their protagonist role within the process of European integration.
The first functional achievements for the Member States took place at the beginnings of the 70s with
the so called Tindeman report. In this report of the Commission on the European Union (5/1975) the
principle is explicitly mentioned. It contains the idea that the objective of the Community should not
be becoming a centralized super state , but rather should concentrate on attributing more powers to
regional and national institutions.
A second weighty step was taken through a draft resolution (Draft Treaty Establishing the European
Union) written by A. Spinelli, adopted by the European Parliament in 1984. Again, it was affirmed
that the Union should be regarded as a proper juridical person whose

Solutions for Poor Contries in Bottom Billion by Paul Collier
The Bottom Billion by Paul Collier discusses why the poorest countries are failing and then offers
some insights and solutions to the problem. He says the four major problems in developing nations
are: conflict, natural resources, bad neighbors, and bad governments. The conflicts are usually civil
wars which have huge costs and the situation just becomes worse the longer the conflicts drag on.
Collier states that countries rich in natural resources are often worse off than countries that are not, he
attributes this problem to several different factors. One of the factors is that the resources open the
possibility for conflict over the resources. Another factor is that if a country strictly focuses it s on a
specific natural resource then the other resources and industries might get forgotten and lose value.
Being landlocked with bad neighbors can also be a large problem because it makes it almost
impossible to be a part of world trade, so these landlocked countries have to depend on their neighbors
for most of the trade and materials. A bad government can also be very destructive to a country s
economy, if they create unreasonable and restrictive policies. The smaller countries are also at a
disadvantage because it is hard for them to get any investors, because the investors would much rather
invest in well known countries like India or China. After Collier stated all the problems he also offered
up some possible solutions. He believed that aid agencies should concentrate

Use two approaches to explain the following case study of the sleep disorders experienced by Mrs A.
One approach to explain Mrs A s sleep disorder is by using the Biological approach which believes us
to be as a consequence of our genetics and physiology. It is the only approach in psychology that
examines thoughts, feelings, and behaviors from a biological and thus physical point of view. Mrs A.
is experiencing Insomnia due to disturbing her Circadian rhythm which are a variety of behavioural
and physiological functions synchronised to the 24 cycle of light and dark These include heart rate,
breathing, alertness, excretion and a metabolic rae. These reach a maximum level in the late afternoon
and early evening and a minimum level in the early morning. The circadian sleep waking rhythm
determines our alertness and activity levels during the day and night. So by Mrs. A waking up and
increasing her alertness and activity levels by using her ipad she is disrupting her circadian rhythm
and thus the endogenous pacemakers or internal body clock of the suprachiasmatic nucleus and the

rhythm being out of sync.

Why Writers Change Their Names
Why do you think people change their names? I ve never thought about changing my name but people
like George Orwell and C. S. Lewis have changed their names. There are many different reasons why
writers would change their names to get published. People want to publish more and more books each
year so they have to change their names to be able to write more books. J. K. Rowling and S. E.
Hinton is a couple of good examples to show why authors changed their names. They have changed
their names by putting their initials instead of their actual names. In the article, What s in a Name? it
states, Susan Eloise Hinton, who is famous for young adult novels, is a example author who adapted
her name. S.E. Hinton s first book The Outsiders includes a male narrator. This shows how the author

shows how Charlotte Brontë changed her name from a woman name to a guy s name. She wrote about

Robert Southey, the Poet Laureate of England in 1836, told Charlotte Bronte that she shouldn t be a

Most conductors started out as steamboat or coastal packet captains before working a job on the
railroad (Lives on the Railroad). Steamboats and ships were the means of transportation of the time for
passengers and freight until the invention of the railroad. With the expansion of the railroad, one of the
conductor s job responsibilities was to keep the train on schedule (Lives on the Railroad). The railroad
became a popular alternative for freight transportation and for passengers ( Railroad Conductors 279).
The railroad offered a faster convenience for travel. Conductors sold tickets to passengers and counted
the tickets to keep records in order (Lives on the Railroad). Maintaining proper records was important
for business. Also, making a list of the names that the tickets were sold were important so that one

The Hollow Hope By Gerald Rosenberg Essay
Throughout the 20th century the medium of music has allowed for artists to convey their thoughts and
feelings on important political topic facing the nation at the time. The power from these songs derives
itself from its ability to create a relationship between the listener and the artist and allow for the
message to transcend social barriers. A more recent instance of an artist using his music to connect
important social issues with a wider audience, is rapper Frank Ocean. Ocean revealed to his fans and
the world that he was a homosexual. This admission sent shockwaves throughout the rap community,
one that has been marred with constant criticism of perpetuating homophobia and extreme male ego.
His groundbreaking 2012 album, Channel Orange, allowed for many people to no longer be afraid of
their sexuality and it is something that should be embraced. Frank s impact will never fully be

community. This paper discusses the article by Gerald Rosenberg, The Hollow Hope which describes
the effect of political mobilization being sparked from litigation and how the courts have become an
avenue for social change. The article specifically looks at the rise of the LGBT movement after
landmark Supreme Court cases and whether this sudden mobilization in support, brought an even

and how I understand this term? According to my research and observations, CSR does not have only
one and constant definition. I have read a lot of definitions of CSR and in fact, they are similar but not
the same. Briefly, definition and understanding of CSR depends on person to person. Thus, I am going
to talk about definitions of the CSR and I will define my own perspective about the CSR. As I
mentioned, CSR does not have one definition. There is huge amount of CSR definitions published by
business world and economists. For example, CSR is about how companies manage the business
processes to produce an overall positive impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
THE PYRAMID OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
According to Archie Caroll, who found CSR pyramid, there are 4 aspects of Corporate Social
Responsibilities which is divided in Economic, Legal, Ethical and Philanthropic Responsibilities.
Corporate Citizens are expected to be profitable, be abiding the laws, be ethical and be charitable to
society. (Carrol, July Aug. 1991.) This pyramid reflects what the CSR is by defining the
responsibilities of the corporations in four different stages. First level is Economic responsibilities of
the corporations which refers the corporations main goal, making or being profitable. Second step
Legal Responsibilities, this stage explains how the corporations act when they do business, obey the
laws and follow the rules. Third part of the pyramid is about Ethical responsibilities of the
corporations. This step reflects being ethical. On the other word, what the right and wrong is. In
addition, Corporations should avoid unfair and non ethical actions in the society. Finally, top of the
pyramid reflects being good corporate citizen. I think, it suggests corporations should follow the laws
and rules, pay the taxes, do the right and ethical, and take care of its workers and environment. In my
opinion this pyramid reflects my exact definition about the CSR.

Introduction
Chemical equilibrium is the study of change within a chemical reaction and how far it will go to reach
a dynamic equilibrium (Burdge). Dynamic equilibrium is defined as the constant movement of species
in a chemical reaction, gone to incompletion while the rates of production and consumption are equal
(Kf = Kr ) (Burdge). It differs from static equilibrium in that species are constantly being consumed
and produced, it is dynamic movement (Fox). The concentration of such species do not change, it
remains constant (Fox). The rate at which species are being consumed and produced is known as the
equilibrium constant (K) (Burdge). Due to the fact that the concentration

Grendel s Pain
In John Gardner s Grendel, Grendel states, Tedium is the worst pain (138). Grendel views boredom as
an expression of his painful, purposeless existence. Perpetual boredom has steadily increased and
intensifies in chapter ten leading Grendel to be anxious for something to happen. Ironically, Grendel
claims nothing is happening, and all is boring, yet filled with longing and expecting for something big
to happen soon. Grendel s search intensifies and becomes desperate at the event of the Shaper s death.
He feels utterly alone and isolated. It seems Grendel can only talk to himself. In Chapter ten Gardner
examines the significance of the astrological sign Capricorn, the ... Show more content on

His bleak assessment of man s state is heard in the icy statement, The world is white (148). Grendel
believes himself to be the only one moved by the old priest s words while standing in frozen company
in the shadow of a funeral fire. Is he the only one moved by the Shaper s death? Grendel sees
everyone as stiff and frozen blue like ice. His own mother acts only to prevent him from deepening his
pessimistic tendency revealed by the loss. She tries to get in his way. She attempts to block his view of
the funeral procession. Grendel s Nietzschean philosophy continues to take shape in the wake of the
Shaper s death. Grendel groans, We re on our own again. Abandoned (149).
Grendel prefers to develop a loneliness and Isolation theme as he struggles for identity and purpose in
life. He journeys past his mother s attempts to protect him from feeling and moves her aside even
though she is pained by his cool objection. Her whoops cannot stop him from moving on as he
comforts himself to believe, I will forget, tomorrow, so her pain is a matter of indifference (147). His
independent spirit persists in conflicted loneliness. The Shaper s hopeful song about thaw and spring
rain echoes from the lips of a young man only to meet empty, lonely space within Grendel. The people
solemnly listen in funeral waiting and a distracted, dry eyed king is seen by all to be unmoved.
Grendel is restless and continues to move forward with his lonely,

The Album Of La Revue Blanche
Exhibition Overview:
Among the many fabulous pieces of art housed at the DMA, there lies a hidden gem that has yet to be
on display. The Album of La Revue Blanche, a collection of prints commissioned by the late 19th
century Parisian anarchist journal, provides not only an insight into popular fin de siècle French print
culture, but also a beautiful case study in the techniques developed by leading artists in the realm of
fine art lithography. It is the goal of this exhibit to explore the place of the graphic arts in early modern
art through the example of this journal, and to examine more closely the stylistic hallmarks of the
lithograph in a more detailed way.
Lithography: Method
Lithography is planographic printing process that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and water.
In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease treated image on the flat printing surface. Non
image areas hold moisture and repel the lithographic ink. This inked surface is then printed by means
of a special press as in most fine art printmaking . The earliest though no longer the only method of
creating lithographs involved the use of a block of porous limestone. An image is drawn with tusche a
carbon pigment in liquid form, and litho crayon a type of grease pencil before the printing surface is
fixed, moistened, and inked in preparation for printing. The printing itself is done on a press that
exerts a sliding pressure, and because it undergoes virtually no wear in

King Lear s Wheel Comes Full Circle
The wheel comes full circle is a quote that has been changed over the years.I personally relate this
quote to karma, although I believe this is what Lear was saying as well.If you relate this quote to
actions,it seems that it could almost be a cause and effect action. But the way it is a action with highs
and lows, and the middle is more or less the fall out of what was done.If a evil person does an evil
action,he often is rewarded with what was sought after as long as his plan workouts out.But this man
also receives the very evil that he used to get ahead. This is why I relate the quote to karma, but it doesn
t always follow this path either.Good people die young aswell, and if bad things happen to bad
people, then why won t good things happen to good people?

Revision Narrative
Revision Narrative
One of the biggest change I made was changing the narrator of the story. I decided to change it to a
third person narrator to give myself more flexibility in terms of description because I felt like the first
person narrator limited what I was able to describe. However, writing in the third person also proved
to be challenging. The different POV changed the tone and voice of the story. Plus I couldn t decide on
which girl was the main protagonist of the story. As I delved into both girls mind through third person
narrative they both became more interesting, and it was harder for me to decide on one main character.
Now the subject of the story keep shifting between both girls.
Although I liked the mystery and anticipation

Thyroid Gland ( Tg )
Introduction
Thyroid gland (TG) secretes thyroxin and triiodothyronine (Garber et al., 2012). Its main function is to
make hormones and main job is to produce hormones T4 and T3 (Mortimer, 2011). To do this the
human TG has to take a form of iodine from the bloodstream into the human TG (Garber et al., 2012).
This substance then undergoes a numerous of different chemical reactions which resulted in the
production of T3 and T4 (Mortimer, 2011). In order to make T4 and T3, TG needs iodine, a substance
found in the food, both T4 and T3 contains four atoms of iodine. T4 is then converted to T3 through
the cells and tissues of the human body. More active hormone is T3, because it influences the activity
of all the cells and tissues of the human body. Thyroid is controlled by hormones produced by
hypothalamus and pituitary. Besides, these secreted hormones in the TG are essential for normal
growth, better development and metabolic function. Thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) stimulates
the pituitary to secrete TSH which in turn acts on the TG to cause synthesis and secretion of thyroid
hormones. Altered thyroid function is common and respectively the release of TRH and TSH enable
feedback of the hormones on the pituitary and hypothalamus to inhibit synthesis. For example, a
prevalence of hypothyroidism has been reported in the literature that up to ten percentage in the
general population is possible expected to occur.
It is an essential to have accurate assays of thyroid

Hurricane Essay
What Would a Massive Hurricane Mean To NYC
In my community of New York City it is unlikely for a major hurricane to hit. It s only happened a
handful of times in history. If a major superstorm hit our city it would be considered a Nor easter. Nor
easters are intense storms that can cause heavy snow, rain and oversized waves that can cause beach
erosion and a low level storm surge and structural damage. The intensity of the wind gusts associated
with these storms can exceed hurricane force in intensity and make NYC very vulnerable. ( What
Exactly Is a Nor easter? 2016)

Many streets were flooded and thousands of had no electricity. Major bridges were closed, the giant,
slow moving monster hung around New York City for three days, pushing water onto land. The result
was levels of flooding unseen in the modern era, swamping the subway system and causing major
damage (Plan for Hazards Coastal Storms Hurricanes NYCEM)
On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, there s the New York Bight, where New Jersey and Long
Island procedure an upside down L around low waters of the Atlantic Ocean. A bight is a curve on an
open shoreline. When Hurricane Sandy arrived to the bight, it brought loads of ocean water and vast
rain which piled up on its way up the coast. When all of the water hit into New York s Bight, the water
was confined where the legs of the L form. With nowhere to go, water then fell onto the land,
including the southern points of New York City, where the New York Stock Exchange and the Statue
of Liberty stand. Waves from this extra water piled up and formed storm surges of really dangerous
heights. A typical Category 1 hurricane like hurricane Sandy produces a storm surge of three to five
feet (0.9 to 1.5 meters). Around 8 p.m. ET Monday, Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey coast at 90 miles
(145 kilometers) per hour and spun into New York City. ( Why New York City Is the Worst Place for a

  • 2. Foucault s Influence On Political Theory Jordan Riggs Pos 353 Political Theory Essay John Hultgren 10/30/2014 Essay Foucault is a very famous name when it comes to political theory. In our contemporary theory politics course, one of the required reading materials was Foucault s Discipline and Punish. Foucault had these very strong ideas about punishment, especially about, the modern penal system or otherwise known as prison. Foucault was very analytic about discipline and punishment prior to the eighteenth century. In the beginning of Discipline and Punish, Foucault explains how prior to the eighteenth century, punishment was something that was used as severe torture to the human body, as well as explaining how when people were punished, punishments usually were public and or ceremonial. Foucault had strong ideas and he mentioned some very important terms to make his argument. To help the reader of this essay, some very important key terms will be defined. These key terms include, knowledge, power, discipline, panopticism, and politics. Hopefully these key terms can help the reader understand Foucault s beliefs and ideas, as well as the second part of the essay where Foucault s ideas will be related to modern day pop culture. Two very important terms that are the foundation of Foucault s work are, knowledge and power. The root of Foucault s analytic would be those two previous words. Foucault does not view power as a negative thing, because he believes it is something that is always going to exist. Foucault ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aligarh s First Generation By David Lelyveld Aligarh s First Generation By David Lelyveld Review The book Aligarh s First Generation by David Lelyveld is a case study of the Muhammadan Anglo Oriental College , today known as the Aligarh Muslim University , in its first twenty five years of inception, i.e., from 1875 1900. The book explores the nature of Muslim cultural identity in India in the nineteenth century, and the changes it may have undergone in the context of colonial rule. It was the period when the first generation of Muslims educated in English graduated from the college. The author begins in the preface by presenting the context of the book by describing the college. The Muhammadan Anglo Oriental College was also known as Madrasat ul ulum Musalmanan . It was a residential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its British patrons, who ended up exerting more influence on Aligarh than its founder had intended, hoped that the new college would create a class of educated Muslims who would be more loyal to the British and less inclined to agitation than their educated Hindu counterparts. By 1875, when Aligarh was founded, many British officials were becoming disillusioned with the English educated, Hindu babu class. Their shrewd adoption of British po litical techniques for the mobilization of public opinion, their creation of a powerful and all too vocal native press, their campaigns for more civil service places, made them thorns in the side of a government that had hoped that education would turn them into docile and appropriately grateful subjects. Members of the Muslim community, if they could only be persuaded to support the British wholeheartedly, promised to be stauncher allies because this line of reasoning ran they needed the protection of the British if they were not to be overwhelmed by the Hindus. It seemed unlikely that English education would tempt them to agitate for representative government of the British type, because in almost every electoral contest, Muslims stood to be outvoted. There is no need to impute sinister motives of divide et impera to the British to comprehend why they sought the favor of leading Muslims and made a show of supporting Aligarh during its insecure early days. The consequence was that Aligarh, unlike most Indian managed colleges, could count on indulgent government inspectors, regular and sustained govern ment grants, and still more tellingly, on the support of successive British officials who journeyed to its dusty campus, in the spirit of a pilgrimage, to deliver solemn orations there extolling Anglo Muslim solidarity. It is worth noting that Aligarh was one of the few appropriate forums for such speeches. They could not conceivably have been delivered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Huckleberry Finn Documentary Analysis When discussing Mark Twain, there are often aspects about him and his life in general that are controversial and unclear. Ken Burns documentary not only provides an in depth analysis of Mark Twain s life, but also provides clarity to some of those highly disputed questions. An example of one of these questions that Burns frequently addresses is if Mark Twain s life was as interesting and significant as it is suggested to be. Ken Burns addresses this by establishing throughout the documentary that Mark Twain is a loveable and complex human being and backs this up with many different examples. The complexity of his life is shown in the documentary by all of the immense hardships and success that Twain encounters in his life. One of the many hardships that Twain endured during his life was when his daughter Suzie got sick and passed away while he was traveling with his wife ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason is that his life wasn t perfect and golden as most people believe it to be. Before he made it as a writer, he was very unsuccessful and even contemplated suicide from time to time. I am not implying that trying to kill yourself makes you a better person, however, it does serve as an example of Twain having a very rough upbringing and life before his immense fame. Whilst reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, I felt somewhat negatively towards Twain s character, mostly because of the horribly racist things that he wrote. I understood that these situations and lines were critical to the story, but I can t deny that some of it was hard to stomach. This said, Burns documentary really gave some needed depth to Twain s character that made him a lot more likable and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Frogs Aristophanes The Frogs was first performed at the festival of Dionysus in 504BC, a year before the end of the Peloponnesian war, and was so well received it not only won the competition for comedy, but was also given an encore taking the form of a second performance in that same year. At the time of the plays performance Athens was run by an assembly of its citizens, in some ways comparable to a modern democracy, where any man who had completed two years of military service was able to vote. Politics therefore was an important part of Athenian life, with many young men studying the art of debating, something reflected in The Frogs by its many references and illusions to political figures. It is hard to doubt that in his play Aristophanes intended to educate or inform his audience, especially considering the plays many allusions to the advisory role of poets. The objective of this essay therefore is not to answer the question does Aristophanes inform, educate and entertain his audience in the frogs but to identify both where and how he does so, both linguistically and structurally. • 7. Transition From Transitional Lava Types Transition From Pahoehoe to A a In its most general sense, as the flow advances away from the vent, core temperature decreases leading to an increase in viscosity and ultimately marks a transition from pahoehoe to a a. This point of transition is most often referred to as the transition threshold (Peterson Tilling, 1980). Lava which continues to deform even after it has become highly viscous, may reach this threshold and subsequently changes to a a. There are many factors which govern this change, and will be discussed in the proceeding section. Transitional lava types have been studied, such as the rubbly pahoehoe observed from the Laki flows, Iceland, of 1783 84 (Guilbaud, 2005), and slab pahoehoe on Kilauea (Peterson Tilling, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to this regard, it was first considered to be impossible (MacDonald, 1953). Factors Controlling Emplacement of Pahoehoe A a flow As discussed above, pahoehoe morphology forms from hotter, more fluid lava, and a a from critically stressed and highly viscous lava. As already alluded to, Peterson Tilling (1980) recognised an inverse relationship between viscosity and shear rate; if viscosity is low, a high rate of shear is required to begin transition to a a, giving rise to its characteristic brecciated surface. Likewise, if viscosity is high, a lower rate of shear will induce a transition. This section will discuss the most significant factors governing the transition. Effusion Rates During a magmatic episode, a high discharge rate of magma is likely to produce lava fountaining high into the air. It is inferred that the higher the fountaining, the more exposure the lava has to cool air, thus increasing its viscosity. Further, with a high flow rate, lava continues to move even if viscosity and yield stress is high. This continues up to a point at which surface disruptions can no longer be healed , and the transition threshold is duly reached. Rowland (1990) is one such advocate, attributing differences in lava type on Kilauea to differences in volumetric flow rate. Rowland concluded that: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Essay On Personal Reflection Introduction Learning and participating in workshops provides one with an opportunity to gain knowledge. The knowledge gained is beneficial to the individual when put into practice, otherwise, that knowledge is futile. However, one can only apply the information gained through better information processing and synthesis. One of the approaches used in evaluating the effectiveness of the information gained involves undertaking an in depth personal reflection. The purpose of this investigation is to conduct an in depth personal reflection on one area of personal strength emanating from the workshops carried out throughout the year. Definition of Personal Strength To evaluate one s strengths, one needs to undertake a range of tests. Already, there exist a plethora of approaches to evaluate the strengths within oneself. Some of these tests include personal intuitions and preferences. However, undertaking a professional evaluation is important to ensure consistency. One of the most important tools to evaluate one s personal strengths is the Myers Briggs Type Indicators (Bower 2015; Culp Smith 2009; Das Sharma, 2015). In particular, this evaluation protocol allows an individual to see the person within other than the behavior. Primarily, the inner personality influences the outward behavior. Moreover, the environment plays an important role in the behavioral approach. Consequently, performing a focused investigation provides a better evaluation metric. Furthermore, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator allows an individual to conceptualize both internal and external factors and the decisions made under such environments. After a careful evaluation, I have realized that organization or orderliness is my personal strength. In part, planning plays a central role in most of the decisions made (Cui Wu 2016). Essentially, I feel that whenever the time is spent on the planning stage, the implementation and evaluation of a process become easier. However, failure to plan leads to delays in the implementation process. Particularly, a lot of delays in the implementation process are attributable to the order of activities. In other cases, people try to undertake more than one activity simultaneously as a time saving strategy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This question has been asked millions of times since the beginning of time, which is why it is one of the most discussed topics in everyday life. Individuals that delve into the art of philosophy find themselves seeking the truth about the morals and values one should have in life to be considered a good person. Morals are the fundamental standards of right and wrong in society such as the Ten Commandments in the Bible. Values, on the other hand, are an individual s perspective on what is right or wrong. In the book Values in Thought and Action, David Lipe sheds light on the idea of moral value. He states that if one were to follow all the rules and principles perfectly he would probably not be judged as a morally good person, moreover we desire that one possess such qualities as friendship, love, and loyalty (Lipe 123). Being a good person is not merely knowing right from wrong but rather, it is having dignity, devotion, and sincerity in all that you do. Rudyard Kipling exemplified these traits best in the poem If, which is centered on the values one should have in order to be regarded as a moral individual. When attempting to make a definitive list of the values one must obtain to be considered moral, it is important to remember the universal virtues handed down through history that have influenced the characters of men today. External Stakeholders The customers The customers of Morrisons PLC are a big stakeholder in the company. It is because of the customers that the business is able to function. The local community does not really affect Morrisons as a whole just the areas stores. If there is only Morrisons in the local community with a lack of main competitors such as ASDA, Tesco and Salisbury s, then it is very likely that Morrisons will be successful because the little businesses in the area pose little threat. Competitors The competitors of Morrisons are one of the most important stakeholders. Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury s and smaller businesses such as Aldi and Lidl are the top competitors of Morrisons. They decide many factors such as prices, location, products and services that force Morrisons to change. If a competitor decides to lower a products price, then Morrisons will most likely have to lower the price too. If Morrisons does not do this then the competitor will sell more products and attract more customers, some that may be currently Morrison s shoppers. Competitors can also have an effect on where Morrisons opens a shop. If for example there are 2 Tesco stores in an area, there is not much sense in opening a Morrisons store nearby. If a competitor of Morrisons starts selling a product that Morrisons currently does not, it is in Morrison s interest to also supply that product. This is the same with a service. So if for example ASDA start delivering to a specific area, then Morrisons will most probably do so too as this can potentially lose them many customers. The limitations were quoted by articles, amendments, and sections to provide a professional and limited governmental scheme on what was expected from each state. As the Constitution was ratified in 1788, a set of guidelines known as the Bill of Rights was implemented as well. The difference is that the Constitution provided structure as to how the whole set up of our system of government would be ran. This means that a firm could lease you the machinery and equipment that you will need. However, although less initial finance is needed to obtain the assets, over time this works out more expensive than buying. Hire purchase is similar to leasing except the firm will eventually own the assets. The assets are paid for in instalments, whilst the business is using them, this however can bring with it major cash flow problems, because interest payments can be very high. My recommendation when attempting to secure a source of finance for machinery and equipment would be to get a bank loan. Solutions for Poor Contries in Bottom Billion by Paul Collier The Bottom Billion by Paul Collier discusses why the poorest countries are failing and then offers some insights and solutions to the problem. He says the four major problems in developing nations are: conflict, natural resources, bad neighbors, and bad governments. The conflicts are usually civil wars which have huge costs and the situation just becomes worse the longer the conflicts drag on. Collier states that countries rich in natural resources are often worse off than countries that are not, he attributes this problem to several different factors. One of the factors is that the resources open the possibility for conflict over the resources. Another factor is that if a country strictly focuses it s on a specific natural resource then the other resources and industries might get forgotten and lose value. Being landlocked with bad neighbors can also be a large problem because it makes it almost impossible to be a part of world trade, so these landlocked countries have to depend on their neighbors for most of the trade and materials. A bad government can also be very destructive to a country s economy, if they create unreasonable and restrictive policies. The smaller countries are also at a disadvantage because it is hard for them to get any investors, because the investors would much rather invest in well known countries like India or China. His groundbreaking 2012 album, Channel Orange, allowed for many people to no longer be afraid of their sexuality and it is something that should be embraced. Frank s impact will never fully be realized, but he undoubtedly has made an impact on society and a stereotype breaker in the rap community. This paper discusses the article by Gerald Rosenberg, The Hollow Hope which describes the effect of political mobilization being sparked from litigation and how the courts have become an avenue for social change. The article specifically looks at the rise of the LGBT movement after landmark Supreme Court cases and whether this sudden mobilization in support, brought an even more fervent opposition. Furthermore, this paper also examines Jeffery Segal and Harold Spaeth s article, The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Corporate Social Responsibility Definition This research study is about what the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is, how people define and how I understand this term? According to my research and observations, CSR does not have only one and constant definition. I have read a lot of definitions of CSR and in fact, they are similar but not the same. Briefly, definition and understanding of CSR depends on person to person. Thus, I am going to talk about definitions of the CSR and I will define my own perspective about the CSR. As I mentioned, CSR does not have one definition. There is huge amount of CSR definitions published by business world and economists. For example, CSR is about how companies manage the business processes to produce an overall positive impact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... THE PYRAMID OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY According to Archie Caroll, who found CSR pyramid, there are 4 aspects of Corporate Social Responsibilities which is divided in Economic, Legal, Ethical and Philanthropic Responsibilities. Corporate Citizens are expected to be profitable, be abiding the laws, be ethical and be charitable to society. (Carrol, July Aug. 1991.) This pyramid reflects what the CSR is by defining the responsibilities of the corporations in four different stages. First level is Economic responsibilities of the corporations which refers the corporations main goal, making or being profitable. Second step Legal Responsibilities, this stage explains how the corporations act when they do business, obey the laws and follow the rules. Third part of the pyramid is about Ethical responsibilities of the corporations. This step reflects being ethical. On the other word, what the right and wrong is. In addition, Corporations should avoid unfair and non ethical actions in the society. Finally, top of the pyramid reflects being good corporate citizen. I think, it suggests corporations should follow the laws and rules, pay the taxes, do the right and ethical, and take care of its workers and environment. In my opinion this pyramid reflects my exact definition about the CSR. Dynamic equilibrium is defined as the constant movement of species in a chemical reaction, gone to incompletion while the rates of production and consumption are equal (Kf = Kr ) (Burdge). It differs from static equilibrium in that species are constantly being consumed and produced, it is dynamic movement (Fox). The concentration of such species do not change, it remains constant (Fox). The rate at which species are being consumed and produced is known as the equilibrium constant (K) (Burdge). Due to the fact that the concentration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Analysis Of Grendel s Grendel Martin Mraz Common Core English IV March 9, 2017 Grendel s Pain In John Gardner s Grendel, Grendel states, Tedium is the worst pain (138). Grendel views boredom as an expression of his painful, purposeless existence. Perpetual boredom has steadily increased and intensifies in chapter ten leading Grendel to be anxious for something to happen. Ironically, Grendel claims nothing is happening, and all is boring, yet filled with longing and expecting for something big to happen soon. Grendel s search intensifies and becomes desperate at the event of the Shaper s death. He feels utterly alone and isolated. It seems Grendel can only talk to himself. In Chapter ten Gardner examines the significance of the astrological sign Capricorn, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His bleak assessment of man s state is heard in the icy statement, The world is white (148). Grendel believes himself to be the only one moved by the old priest s words while standing in frozen company in the shadow of a funeral fire. Is he the only one moved by the Shaper s death? Grendel sees everyone as stiff and frozen blue like ice. His own mother acts only to prevent him from deepening his pessimistic tendency revealed by the loss. She tries to get in his way. She attempts to block his view of the funeral procession. Grendel s Nietzschean philosophy continues to take shape in the wake of the Shaper s death. Grendel groans, We re on our own again. Abandoned (149). Grendel prefers to develop a loneliness and Isolation theme as he struggles for identity and purpose in life. He journeys past his mother s attempts to protect him from feeling and moves her aside even though she is pained by his cool objection. Her whoops cannot stop him from moving on as he comforts himself to believe, I will forget, tomorrow, so her pain is a matter of indifference (147). His independent spirit persists in conflicted loneliness. The Shaper s hopeful song about thaw and spring rain echoes from the lips of a young man only to meet empty, lonely space within Grendel. The people solemnly listen in funeral waiting and a distracted, dry eyed king is seen by all to be unmoved. Grendel is restless and continues to move forward with his lonely, ... • 45. The Album Of La Revue Blanche Exhibition Overview: Among the many fabulous pieces of art housed at the DMA, there lies a hidden gem that has yet to be on display. The Album of La Revue Blanche, a collection of prints commissioned by the late 19th century Parisian anarchist journal, provides not only an insight into popular fin de siècle French print culture, but also a beautiful case study in the techniques developed by leading artists in the realm of fine art lithography. It is the goal of this exhibit to explore the place of the graphic arts in early modern art through the example of this journal, and to examine more closely the stylistic hallmarks of the lithograph in a more detailed way. Lithography: Method Lithography is planographic printing process that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and water. In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease treated image on the flat printing surface. Non image areas hold moisture and repel the lithographic ink. This inked surface is then printed by means of a special press as in most fine art printmaking . The earliest though no longer the only method of creating lithographs involved the use of a block of porous limestone. An image is drawn with tusche a carbon pigment in liquid form, and litho crayon a type of grease pencil before the printing surface is fixed, moistened, and inked in preparation for printing. The printing itself is done on a press that exerts a sliding pressure, and because it undergoes virtually no wear in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

King Lear s Wheel Comes Full Circle The wheel comes full circle is a quote that has been changed over the years.I personally relate this quote to karma, although I believe this is what Lear was saying as well.If you relate this quote to actions,it seems that it could almost be a cause and effect action. But the way it is a action with highs and lows, and the middle is more or less the fall out of what was done.If a evil person does an evil action,he often is rewarded with what was sought after as long as his plan workouts out.But this man also receives the very evil that he used to get ahead. This is why I relate the quote to karma, but it doesn t always follow this path either.Good people die young aswell, and if bad things happen to bad people, then why won t good things happen to good people? ... • 47. Revision Narrative Revision Narrative One of the biggest change I made was changing the narrator of the story. I decided to change it to a third person narrator to give myself more flexibility in terms of description because I felt like the first person narrator limited what I was able to describe. However, writing in the third person also proved to be challenging. The different POV changed the tone and voice of the story. Plus I couldn t decide on which girl was the main protagonist of the story. As I delved into both girls mind through third person narrative they both became more interesting, and it was harder for me to decide on one main character. Now the subject of the story keep shifting between both girls. Although I liked the mystery and anticipation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Thyroid Gland ( Tg ) Introduction Thyroid gland (TG) secretes thyroxin and triiodothyronine (Garber et al., 2012). Its main function is to make hormones and main job is to produce hormones T4 and T3 (Mortimer, 2011). To do this the human TG has to take a form of iodine from the bloodstream into the human TG (Garber et al., 2012). This substance then undergoes a numerous of different chemical reactions which resulted in the production of T3 and T4 (Mortimer, 2011). In order to make T4 and T3, TG needs iodine, a substance found in the food, both T4 and T3 contains four atoms of iodine. T4 is then converted to T3 through the cells and tissues of the human body. More active hormone is T3, because it influences the activity of all the cells and tissues of the human body. Thyroid is controlled by hormones produced by hypothalamus and pituitary. Besides, these secreted hormones in the TG are essential for normal growth, better development and metabolic function. Thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) stimulates the pituitary to secrete TSH which in turn acts on the TG to cause synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones. Altered thyroid function is common and respectively the release of TRH and TSH enable feedback of the hormones on the pituitary and hypothalamus to inhibit synthesis. For example, a prevalence of hypothyroidism has been reported in the literature that up to ten percentage in the general population is possible expected to occur. It is an essential to have accurate assays of thyroid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Hurricane Essay What Would a Massive Hurricane Mean To NYC In my community of New York City it is unlikely for a major hurricane to hit. It s only happened a handful of times in history. If a major superstorm hit our city it would be considered a Nor easter. Nor easters are intense storms that can cause heavy snow, rain and oversized waves that can cause beach erosion and a low level storm surge and structural damage. The intensity of the wind gusts associated with these storms can exceed hurricane force in intensity and make NYC very vulnerable. A bight is a curve on an open shoreline. When Hurricane Sandy arrived to the bight, it brought loads of ocean water and vast rain which piled up on its way up the coast. When all of the water hit into New York s Bight, the water was confined where the legs of the L form. With nowhere to go, water then fell onto the land, including the southern points of New York City, where the New York Stock Exchange and the Statue of Liberty stand. Waves from this extra water piled up and formed storm surges of really dangerous heights. A typical Category 1 hurricane like hurricane Sandy produces a storm surge of three to five feet (0.9 to 1.5 meters). Around 8 p.m. ET Monday, Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey coast at 90 miles (145 kilometers) per hour and spun into New York City. ( Why New York City Is the Worst Place for a ...
