Regulating Toxic Chemicals
Synthesis Paper Water is an essential quality in life that you need to live. Yet many people don t
realize that how important it is in life until it could be taken away. John Thorson, a water rights
and lawyer, says water links us to our neighbor in a way more profound and complex than any
other. It is a way people are connected around economically, socially, and environmentally. Some
struggle to have clean water to drink and others can not find clean water at all. Pollution of water
is a real and dangerous thing that is happening in the city of Flint, Michigan. Colby Itkowitz writes

On January 9, Charleston, West Virginia residents began to smell a strong odor in the air. There
were several complaints and something was obviously wrong. Inspectors soon came upon a 40,000
gallon tank that had been leaking from a chemical storage unit. The object was an oily substance. It
had run into the Elk River just upstream from an intake of a drinking water supply for 300,000
people. The chemical that leaked into the river was used for washing mined coal. At 6 p.m., after
residents had been using their tap water all day, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin declared a state of
emergency, ordering people in nine counties not to drink, cook with or bathe in the contaminated
water. (Weeks) If there isn t any water to drink from the faucet then how do you get any water?
People quickly went for stores to get bottles of water so they could at least drink. After some test
the government said the water was okay to use. Yet people were still filling up the hospital with
unknown rashes, nausea, and other symptoms. The spill revealed the flaws and uncertainty of the
federal and state laws. This time the water linked the people of Charleston to the government. The
government didn t take the right precautions and told the people the water was safe to drink. But
people kept getting sick. So they thought maybe there is still something wrong in the water and
then told people that the water might not be very

Sino-Indian Relations
India since its autonomy in 1947 has taken after an arrangement of peace and non arrangement.
India has constantly brought its voice up for truth and Justice. It was after India got its
Independence in 1947 that the Nation has ready to frame its own remote arrangement. India
association with the Soviet Union began off extremely well because of Pandit Nehru s drive. Indias
relations with the Soviet Union in those initial five year after autonomy were conflicted, guided by
Nehru s choice, to remain neutral and take dynamic part in the Commonwealth of Nations.
However in February 1954, when the US organization reported the choice to give arms and supply

Topic On Alcopops And Teen Binge Drinking
Introduction
In this report I will be discussing the topic on Alcopops and teen binge drinking teen binge
drinking. Binge drinking is drinking large amounts of alcohol for the purpose of getting drunk.
Teenagers generally do this on a weekend and the drink of choice is the sweet flavoured
Alcopops. These drinks come in a variety of cool colour and flavours and are marketed at the
younger target group
Binge drinking is a widely used term, and is the act of drinking heavily over a short period of
time or over several days. Alcopops are the only alcoholic drink whose popularity declines with
age. Alcopops begin introducing young people to alcohol at a young age, before they move onto
other types of alcoholic drinks, such as wine and beer.
1 What are Alcopops
Alcopops are pre mixed, spirit based drinks. They have their own category known as the ready to
drink or RTD segment of the alcohol market. Alcopops were first sold in Australia in 1995 and
the Alcopop market has expanded rapidly since then. Today, there are about 400 Alcopop
products available in Australia. They usually contain high levels of sweeteners, colouring, and
flavouring and resemble soft drinks in the way they taste and in their appearance. Alcopops have
an average alcohol content of around five percent, which is stronger than normal strength beers.
Alcopops are much more popular in the younger age groups and are the drink of choice for over
half of 12 14 year olds. Alcopops have cooler names like Carnival

The Theme Of Madness In Hamlet And Shakespeare s Hamlet
Shakespeare is known for the many reoccurring themes in his tragedies. One such theme is that of
love causing madness. One prime example of this is Ophelia s downfall in Hamlet. Hamlet has
been transformed into motion pictures any times, and two show the theme of madness in Ophelia
in different ways: the 1990 version of Hamlet created by Zeffirelli and the 1996 version by
Branagh. While both actresses that played Ophelia conveyed the madness well, they took different
approaches in terms of vocal inflections and movements. The directors also took different
approaches to portray madness like costumes and settings. Lastly, while Bonham Carter s Ophelia
in 1990 shows some ambiguity in the reasons behind her madness, Blanchett s Ophelia in 1996 does
not.
The major scene that shows the madness Ophelia has descended into is in act four scene five. The
two portrayals by Helen Bonham Carter and Kate Blanchett are quite different as shown by their
acting of this scene. First, Bonham Carter s movements appear much more calculated than
Blanchett s movements, as Blanchett primarily lies on the ground trashing out in a random manner.
Bonham Carter, on the other hand, walks around the set with a purposeful stride
(witchywoman4u12, 2011). Next, they also speak quite differently. Blanchett screams the majority
of the speech and speaks with an inflection that speaks of unsureness. Bonham Carter speaks with a
calmer tone like she knows exactly what she is saying. Lastly, when Ophelia has interactions
between herself and another character like her conversations with Gertrude and Claudius, Blanchett
s Ophelia appears to be unaware of her surroundings and other people initiate the conversations
(Aaron Bradford, 2013). Unlike the 1996 version, Bonham Carter gets up close to people when
she is talking to them, and initiates the conversations between herself and Claudius and Gertrude.
This happens during Ophelia s lines, Where is the beauteous majesty of Denmark...How should I
your true love know From another one? By his cockle hat and staff, And his sandal shoon...Say
you? nay, pray you, mark. He is dead and gone, lady, He is dead and gone; At his head a grass

Movie, Film Stars Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, And...
Wanted
Wanted! When you hear, or say that term, the visual that may come to mind may be: criminal,
old western movie, or even a comparison to a relationship. But in relation to the movie Wanted it
stands for nothing but a guy that wanted no more in life but to find his purpose. A lot of us in
this world never actually find our purpose in life, we just kind of settle for what we are able to do.
We go through trials and tribulations to find ourselves, and find anything that will make our lives
more satisfying, including putting ourselves in harms way to do it. This film stars Angelina Jolie,
Morgan Freeman, and James McAvoy, which names all scream a killer movie to me. The theme
represented in this movie is not only deceit and lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first theme demonstrated in this movie is Perseverance, which was illustrated in the film by
Wesley, and his determination to go through all the physical test to meet standards of the fraternity.
His whole intention throughout the movie was to prove that he could become more than what he
always has considered himself, which is below average. When Wesley was in training he got beat
up by multiple people in the fraternity, in an attempt to make him physically strong to stand
anything. He learned tasks including fighting, knife work, and also how to curve a bullet. When he
was learning to curve the bullet Sloan, played by Morgan Freeman, states The first time in your life
Wesley, you are in control (Bekmambetov, Wanted). As he shoots multiple bullets and still pierces
the wrong target, Fox then stands in the middle of him and the target and says, shoot the target
(Bekmambetov, Wanted ). As hesitant as he was he knew he had to have confidence in himself to
complete the task. As he shoots around Fox, not knowing if the bullet would hit her, he takes his
shot and hits the correct target. Sloan then says Welcome to the fraternity (Bekmambetov, Wanted ).
He then knew all his hard work had paid off! That part of the movie showed strength and
perseverance.
Another way both themes, deceit and perseverance, were shown was at the end of the movie when

In Sherif Grigs
In Dan Moller An argument against marriage he makes the claim that marriage seems not to
persevere through the hardships and falls fault to time. I believe with this statement because once
again I can relate to this particular topic to my own life in the fact that I grew up with divorced
parents. According to Moller, most marriages tend to fall through as backlash of ongoing time with
each other s and this in fact is the reason my parents signed their divorcepapers. I also believe an
abundant amount of people in society concurs with this statement considering most people know of
a friend, colleague, familymember, etc. that knows of a divorced couple due to no longer enjoying
each other s time. To avoid the marriageordeal all together some couples opt out of getting married
to begin with, in fact the National Center... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I fully support this particular statement in that I do believe this is the or one of the biggest
aspects of marriage in it self. Another controversial statement Grisgs adds to her article is the
discussion of same sex marriage and how it could damage the establishment of marriage as a
whole. And I whole heartedly agree with Grigs s belief as well. One of the biggest facts that this
statement is rides on is that, as well all know and like I just discussed, a man and women is
needed to make new life and unify their children to father and mother. Supporters of the same sex
marriage movement who say that this will not infer with traditional man and wife marriages. But
today in societies eyes it can and will in fact arise a great amount of conflict on this sensitive
movement. Above all altering the basic make up of family will change both the definition of it and

A Womans Body Image And Sexuality
The perceptions of a womans body image and sexuality though revolving, have gained momentum
since the late 1880 s. The advent of department stores during the Gilded Age opened a new
opportunity to woman who for the first time were targeted consumers. The department store s of
the Gilded Age aimed to transform the shopping experience into a leisure activity. Women were
not heading to a shop because they needed a dress, but rather because they needed a distraction.
Many stores provided public restrooms a first for women, as well as pampering services,
refreshments, and top of the line customer service. In addition womancould congregate and shop
with friends while discovering new fashion to wear to whatever pop up exhibit was in town. The
movement towards premade fashion, at fixed prices meant that women were able to buy their
clothing on the spot. This was the first time that women were allowed to attract attention, and they
were rewarded if they did so with proper panche However, as time goes forth and fads change, the
tribulations of a woman s body image has stayed a constant struggle even with acceptance of
women in the public sphere.
The rejection of the small, thin, and retiring female image came at a time when women were, in
every way, becoming more visible. The Gilded age was a time when larger women were seen as
more attractive. However with photography becoming popular and women who wished to embrace
curves would utilize padding, cosmetics, fake hair and even

What Is The Difference Between A P And Harrison Bergeron
Tim Kenda English 102 Short Story Essay 2/28/10 Heroism Through Choice When people think
of heroes, they often think of muscle bound men in spandex with unrealistic powers of flight,
strength, or x ray vision. But in real life, heroes are often determined based on the smallest of
situations and their outcomes. In both of the stories I have chosen (A P and Harrison Bergeron), the
main characters are classified as heroes because of their willingness to defy the authoritive forces
around them, whether it be the store manager Lengel in A P or the Handicapper General in
Harrison Bergeron, as well as their willingness to strike out on their own instead of adhering to
social norms. In Harrison Bergeron, the main characterHarrison... Show more content on

After he quits, he looks back and sees Lengel in [his] place in the slot, checking the sheep
through. and then goes on to describe Lengel by saying His face was dark gray and his back
stiff, as if he d just had an injection of iron. (Updike 529). When he sees Lengel in this state, he
realizes that moments before that had been him. At the end of the story, the cashier becomes a
symbol of the thoughts of many young people during the late fifties and early sixties. He does
not want to work in the same dreary place for his whole life. He does not want to be just like his
parents and Lengel. And despite that fact that he knows it will be hard, he makes the decision to
strike out on his own, and consequently to fight back against what he views as a dreary and
depressing reality. That is a hard decision to make, and a heroic one as well. As a result of his
actions, the cashier in A P not only commits a heroic gesture, he also becomes a symbol of the
change that was taking place in the late fifties and early sixties. Many young people at that point
in time were breaking away from what their parents were doing and were bravely striking off onto
their own paths, just like the hero in our story. The overall theme of the story mirrors the same path,
showing the drear and the tension and the

Child Murderer Personification
I chose the above paragraph to draw information from for my poem because the lead paragraph
immediately caught my attention. I found the article to be intriguing mainly as a result of the
disturbing topic it revolved around. Stories of child murderers are relatively uncommon and
oppose societal norms which is why I find them to be interesting. Moreover, I have always been
curious to learn more about child murderers as I do not understand why a child would want to
murder their family, which is also why I was drawn to this article. I did make one modification to
the original idea of the newspaper by presenting the murderer as an individual who is also
suffering from a mental illness, namely, schizophrenia. It is not mentioned in the article whether or
not the child suffers from a mental illness. However, I decided to present him in the way I did in

For example, I used personification in the following line My jaw screamed in agony as I gritted
my teeth . I personified the murderer s jaw by giving it the human ability to scream in order to
convey the agony and intense pressure it was subjected to as a result of the murderer gritting his
teeth. In addition, I used the following hyperbole The intense stare of her contracted pupils bore
a hole through my body in order to explain the discomfort the murderer experienced as a result of
the victim s open eyes. I also used imagery in order to create a vivid image of the murder scene in
the reader s mind, placing special emphasis on the blood gushing out of the victim s head. I
described the blood to be flowing out of the victim s head like a river and compared it to thick
black cherry sauce. I made slight changes to the conventions of punctuation and capitalization when
writing my poem. This is because I did not capitalize the first letter of every line. I feel like adding
a capital letter interrupts the flow of ideas for the

Suicide, a big concern in today s society. It is everywhere and happening every second, but no
ordinary person ever thinks of these situations on a daily basis. But one man, Jay Asher, stepped in
and decided to write about suicide in a more entertaining and relatable form. Thirteen Reasons Why,

I believe that banning this novel is a big disadvantage for younger audiences since they won t have
the chance to acquire some sort of knowledge of the topics that are considered to be censorable
material. Thirteen Reasons Why should not be banned since doing so doesn t only remove
knowledge material from younger audiences, but it also silences the authors, it prevents the authors
to have a say and let everyone know their thoughts and statements. Freedom of speech immediately
brings up in mind the First Amendment. The First Amendment protects the freedom of speech,
meaning we are able to express freely in any form of communication with no worries of getting in
trouble. For example, we have the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances
freely. There have been some conflicts with the First Amendment and censoring materials. But
problems with freedom of speech are not as bad as other areas in the world One example is the so
called right to be forgotten, which allows negative information to be deleted from the Internet.
Abrams stresses that even repugnant statements are more broadly protected in the U.S. speech than
under many European democracies. (Abrams, 66). Protecting and taking care of the First
Amendment should be done properly and constantly to keep everyone sane. I believe that with the
First Amendment everyone gets a chance to speak and tell their own side of the argument

The Pros And Cons Of UFO Religions
The reasons UFO religions are hounded for evidence can largely be attributed to defense of one
s beliefs. If evidence is not provided it is taken as proof that their claims are faulty, and the
current mainstream beliefs can be upheld without contention. The perception of the past, present
and future remains unchanged and unchallenged. Mainstream traditional beliefs are not required
to provide proof because of their age, and any evidence provided is difficult to validate. UFO
religions and established religions have an abundance of similarities when compared according
to characteristics of religions. This makes it difficult to justify the ridicule of one and not the
other. My views of UFO religions have largely been informed by the media prior to this class,
when a competing, compelling perspective was introduced. Mainstream, established religions
operate within society based on faith alone, not empirical evidence. There is a widespread
perception of legitimacy based on the amount of time these religions, such as Buddhism or
Catholicism, have existed and operated. Since we were not alive for the birth of these religions,
their belief systems are taken for granted. Many do not feel the need to question the existence of
mainstream deities because their existence has become entrenched in society through the birth of
new members into these religions. When one is born into a religion, the beliefs are less likely to be
questioned because it is the community and the reality in

America Needs the Affordable Care Act
According to Newsweek, the University Medical Center on average has about $100,000 dollars a
month in unpaid doctor s visits and operations and special procedures; this burden gets passed on
to the County taxpayer (Johnson). Unpaid bills occur due to people taken to the hospital and either
do not have, or have very poor health insurance. The current process is not fair to anyone, whether
one has no health insuranceor one who has paid for it. Under the Patient Protection and Affordable
Care Act, otherwise referred to as Obamacare, signed into law on March 23, 2010, this requires all
Americans to purchase health insurance. The purchase of this care is purchased either individually

Romneycare requires everyone to get health insurance through the state market place. Both this
law, and the Affordable Care Act require businesses to cover all full time employees. Also, both
laws make dropping an individual due of preexisting conditions illegal. Since 2006 almost 90%
of Massachusites are insured, and since 2006 Massachusetts has had surpluses in its budget
(Kolesnikova). With this extra money, public service projects were preformed such as restoring
the I93 tunnel and the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge. On a personal level, the
law helps individuals and families who are struggling with money. Mary Flynn who has asthma
normally paid $60 a month for her inhaler, after her insurance dropped her because of the asthma,
she went to apply for RomneyCare. I felt like they threw me a lifeline, she said, adding that her
inhaler now costs her just $3.50 a month. It s the best insurance I ve ever had (Kolesnikova).
This state law, if properly administered on a federal level, would have similar positive affects
nationally. Despite all the benefits The Affordable Care Act gives to people, some people
believe this law is socialism, and unlawfully forces people to buy health insurance. In 1935 FDR
passed Social Security; his critics called this creeping socialism . If Social Security were true
socialism, no one would pay into it, and retirees would just collect taxpayers money. The same

Platonic Ideal
Let me give it a little more flesh for Daniel and Colin.
To drive my point, I will seem to drift off a little first, so bear with me. Consider the Organised
Mind, and I think some neuroscience can shed some light on this line thing but before that, let s
consider birds forexample, according to our most recent understanding, a perfect bird (or any
Platonic ideal) is a concept that exists only as a collection of neuronal connections. When I say
a perfect bird , I mean the sort you might find in a children s book, or that a child would draw. A
sparrow is close to a perfect bird. it flies, it s smallish, it builds nests, it has fluffy feathers... a
penguin, however, is not a perfect bird (psychologically). Some people might add tenative
language, like well, a penguin is *technically* a bird... and this reluctance is due to the penguin not
sharing as many features of the Platonic ideal. Another example would be a whale. Many children
might assume a whale to be a fish I know I did. When I first learnt otherwise, I said things like
Did you know a whale is technically a mammal ? As if it shouldn t qualify to be a whole and entire
mammal.
But we are not born with an innate knowledge of mammal dom or bird dom. Instead, the
chronology seems to go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A line might well be an inbuilt concept. Some categories have been useful to us for so long that
they seem to be hardwired in, parent or food would be examples. There have been people with
brain damage so specific that they are unable to understand the concept of an edible plant,
suggesting that this, too, is an endowed concept. I would suggest that a line falls into this category.
It is so fundamental to understand that moving towards something in a straight line will get you
there better than curving towards it, that this category of straight lines and things close to them has
been of value since the very dawn of the brain and is almost certainly

Francis published a number of reports between 2010 to 2013 which revealed failings by mid
staffs in providing basic care; from provision of food, drink, pain relief, wash facilities to
unhygienic wards and toilets. The francis report also estimated that between January 2005 and
march 2009, approximately 400 1200 deaths occurred as a result of poor care.
The inquiry laid blame on poor staffing, lack of compassion, poor management. Francis also noted
a lack of concern when issues had been raised stating Staff who spoke out felt ignored and there is
strong evidence that many were deterred from doing so through fear and bullying . Again other
agencies were slow to react to warning signs that things were not right at Mid staffs.
One of the recommendations that emerged from the francis report was the expectation upon all
NHS staff of a duty of Candour . It says Every healthcare organisation and everyone working for
them must be honest, open and truthful in all their dealings with patients and the public, and
organisational and personal interests must never be allowed to outweigh the duty to be honest,

Miscommunication In Sense And Sensibility, By Jane Austen
Problems From Miscommunication Throughout history, relationships between people have been
questioned based off what people have heard or seen. Jane Austen writes the love story of two
sisters, Elinor and Marianne, that have conflicts when it comes to their relationships caused by
miscommunication. In Sense and Sensibility, Jane Austen reveals the danger of making
judgements on insufficient information through relationships between the characters.
Miscommunication creates confusion and a mix of emotions from the characters. Marianne
thought she met her prince charming, Willoughby, when she fell and he saved her. He saved her
after she fell. Willoughby had a manly beauty with a good name behind him (Austen 44 45). To
Sir John, Willoughby was as good a kind of fellow as ever lived because he was pleasant and a
good humored fellow (Austen 45). Once Marianne finds that out, she is sure that Willoughby was
the type of man she liked because of his eagerness and she was assured that he was well worth
catching (Austen 46). From that day, Marianne and Willoughby had a well established relationship,
and some questioned if they had gotten engaged, due to how much time they were spending
together. Then, Willoughby suddenly has to leave Barton for business in town. Mrs. Jennings, a
few months later, invites Marianne and Elinor to town with her. But, in the meantime, Marianne did
not hear anything from Willoughby, and she became worried. At a party, Marianne sees
WIlloughby and questions why he has not responded to her letters she had previously sent.

Aar 14-1 Airplane History Paper
Aircraft and Flight History AAR 14 01 was published by the National Transportation Safety
Board (NTSB) on June 24th 2014. It is the Aircraft accident report for Asiana Airlines flight 214,
from Inchon, South Korea to San Francisco, California. The flight was scheduled to be a 10 hour
and 34 minute flight across the Pacific Ocean. However, the flight ended short of the runway
and impacted the sea wall at the end of runway 28L, destroying the aircraft. Flight 214 was a
Boeing 777 200ER, powered by two Pratt and Whitney PW4090 engines that had accumulated
over 37,000 hours in its 7 year service after being initially placed into service on March of 2006.

The NTSB noted that the commander placed an officer in charge of the fire attack that had not
received proper training. The crew had equipment that had not been utilized to its fullest potential,
particularly the high reach extendable turrets. The airport also failed to deploy its two emergency
medical busses to the scene. There was also an apparent communications break down. The NTSB
also noted that there was a lack of communication between the SFO airport rescue crew and local
city dispatchers, hampering rescue efforts by local agencies. CRM Factors There were several
factors that relate to Crew Resource Management (CRM). Notably the inability of the crew to
maintain their situational awareness during the approach. The crew became so task saturated in the
approach glide path that they ignored the throttle settings until it was too late to recover. Failure to
monitor their airspeed, while focusing on the approach path contributed as well. Fatigue of the
crew, and mismanagement of their afforded rest periods also contributed to the incident. The most
rested member in the flight station was the pilot monitoring with 3 hours of sleep in the previous 24

Craft Project Research Paper
Many adults cringe at the thought of craft projects for kids. Their concerns may include a lack

Forget the end product and focus on the process. Sit the kids at a table with craft materials from
your craft cupboard, recycling bin, junk drawers, etc. then step back and watch the magic. The
creativity and flexibility in the thinking of children when they sit in front of a pile of raw
materials will never ceases to amaze you. Make sure you join in the fun as well. Clean Up! I can
hear the kids moaning now but clean up is essential. Taking the time to put the craft supplies
back into their proper containers will make it easier to find them next time, leave more time for
the actual craft project and decrease stress for both the children and adults. Plan the time for
clean up into your craft project. If you have thirty minutes for your crafting time, quit with five
minutes left for clean up. Setting a timer will assure everyone knows when clean up begins.
Give each child specific task to make the clean up less overwhelming. Giving specific directions
will make the task less daunting to the child. Use instructions such as, Your job is to put all of the
paints into the paint container, or Your first job will be to collect all of the loose beads and put
them into the bag. Allowing the child to escape this part of the craft project will fail to teach them
to clean up after themselves and create resentment in those who have to do the

Murphy Oil USA, Incorporated V. National Labor Relations...
While labor relation laws have provided legal stability for employers and employees to exercise
and pursue their respective rights and interests, not all conflicts and disputes are resolved based
on precedence of law. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) enforces the right of
employees to engage in concerted activities for mutual aid or protection and takes the position that
class and collective action waivers in employment and other agreements are unlawful. Although the
National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) provides employees certain rights, some labor relation
issues decided by the NLRB have been challenged in some cases and supported in others by the
Supreme Court and the United States Courts of Appeals. Murphy Oil USA, Incorporated v.
National Labor Relations Board addresses arbitration agreements that bar employees from concerted

Voodoo In African American Culture
Voodoo is the modernized term for Haitian Vodou. It developed in Haiti during the slavery era
when African Caribbean slaves were working on plantations. It has roots in African American
spirituality, in Native American practices, and in Roman Catholicism. The central understanding in
voodoo is that it is more about what you do than it is what you believe. While it may be referred to
as a religion, this is actually more of a way of life for those who practice and participate in rituals.
In doing these rituals, the practitioners are engaging in worship of the Lwa which is Haitian
Creole for a group of spirits. These spirits act as an intermediary between the practitioners and God
with whom they believe in a plane that is too high for humans... Show more content on

The Hon gan began by addressing the spirits they serve in the form of prayer. Everyone has spirits
that they serve in this community. These spirits are usually adopted from your ancestors. For
example, my Hon gan explained to me that he adopted his spirits from his parents and he has other
specific spirits that walk with him which mean that are just with him. To continue with, in order for
the ritual to commence they needed to ask the spirits for authorization. Each one of the Hon gan
s spirits were called on and asked if he could proceed with the ritual. After they gave him that
authorization, he pulled out a powder. Powders in these rituals are generally used to amplify the
ritual. In this case, the powder was used so that the spirits can carry the message of the Hon gan.
It is the powder that allows the Hon gan to ask for what he needs. The priest blowed this powder
into the air in four directions. Then he took out a white jar candle. Traditionally white is a color
which is used to signal spiritual blessings. He marked this candle with a knife. This is done so
the spirits may have passage. Then he lit the candle and began to pray again. It is with this
prayer, that the spirit gives the Hon gan passage. The Hon gan entered this passage and lit a
lamp. This part isn t something we can physically see. But then he sprinkled powder onto the
candle which he says was sprinkling powder onto the lamp. It was at this point that the Hon gan
took the candle and placed it in the middle of a large white bowl which he placed at the center of
the room. Then he took a white stick candle and placed it in the middle of a small bowl filled
with l huile mascreti which is a Haitian term for castor oil. He then instructed the woman to keep
adding oil as necessary and to keep both candles lit for as long as it takes. Which basically meant
for as long it took for her to finish the housing process. Then the woman was given the

Throughout the years, many people have attempted to portray the hardships and struggles of slaves
based on what they learned or what they might have been taught. But realistically, there is no way
for anyone to understand the lives that many blacks were forced into because they have never
actually experienced it themselves. During slavery, blacks were separated from their families and
pushed into a lifestyle that was dehumanizing and depressing. Their everyday lives were being
watched and harsh punishments were being given for reasons that were unethical. Harriet Jacobs,
Phyllis Wheatley, and Olaudah Equiano wrote about the different struggles that they faced as slaves

were also not allowed to learn how to read because many white were afraid that if they learned
how to read they would eventually get to freedom. From day to day, slaves grew crops, took care

Counter Fire Task Force Mission Report
I have been here in this Battalion for just under eleven months now; the main mission that the
Battalion plays is to support the Counter Fire Task Force if North Korea were ever to attack.
Within the Battalion there are three Batteries, two firing Batteries with M270 Multi Launch Rocket

Currently there is an incentive option to encourage Soldiers to extend for an additional year in
Korea; this is known as the Assignment Incentive Pay (AIP) Option, where you get an
additional three hundred dollars a month from the moment you sign the documents to extend
until you leave the country. Although this is a nice option to have, many Soldiers and leaders
still choose not to stay any longer than their one year obligation. As I see it the only way to get
Soldiers and leaders to stay is to make them stay. To develop a proper way ahead and remain
flexible to change as needed throughout the process, Kotter s eight step approach to change
would allow for a good strategy rather than plan to allow for the Army to accomplish this
mission. The first step on Kotter s approach is to develop a sense of urgency; just like most
things in life, if you re not being pushed by someone of something to accomplish a task than you
will wait and it may not get done to standard or at all. Step one, I would decide on a date that we
would start implementing the normal accompanied tour and send out a MILPER message across
the entire force to all active duty personnel s email. I would stress that we are transitioning back to
the longer tour to enhance readiness and detour any aggressions from North Korea. With Soldiers
returning with their families, there would a large need of construction of support facilities for these
families; currently there are no schools on the instillation that I am assigned. We could make this

What Is The Dramatic Irony In The Black Cat By Edgar Allan...
The Black Cat is an old short story written by Edgar Allan Poe an American Writer. It is a horror
fiction story which demonstrate the fascinating changes that the human mind has during the
abuse of alcohol. The protagonist is physiological corrupter by the abuse of alcohol and his mind
play games with itself. He changes his personality as the story progresses and the way that he
treats others around him. Everyone is affected by his behavior even his lovely cat. The cat
becomes the object of his hate and in some way it is the first thing that he blames about his
irrational acts. In the short story The Black Cat , Edgar Allan Poe, uses a varied forms of Irony,
dramatic Irony, verbal Irony, and situation irony to produce a transformation of love threw hate
along of the story.
In dramatic Irony, occurs when the readers are aware about what is going to happen, but the
characters do not have any clue about what is going on. In The Black Cat , the story begins with
the main character sentenced to death, but with one story to tell. The Irony here is that he was
not aware about how his life was going to change. In the beginning he is describing how happy
was his childhood and how much he loved his pets. In the second paragraph of the story the
main character describes his personality as a child in the first sentence From my infancy I was
noted for the docility and humanity of my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so
conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions (3). He was a lovely child with an
uncertain future. Another irony finds it on the story is how he describes the fidelity and love that
the man can own There is something in the unselfish and self sacrificing love of a brute, which
goes directly to the heart of him who has had frequent occasion to test the paltry friendship and
gossamer fidelity of mere Man (3 4). When the story is progressing he is transforming to a violent
man without any act of compassion towards his faithful pet, which actually represented
faithfulness. He is represented himself as a child with a lovely personality, but he is not aware that
the lovely child was going to transform in an alcoholic man with a violent personality willing to
kill mercilessly.

Decision Making That Permits Influence An Investment Abroad
INTRODUCTION:
The world is changing more rapidly; consequently organizations are promptly the way they operate
as well to ensure survival and growth in high velocity turbulent markets. To succeed an
organization has to anticipate, react and even lead in terms of strategic decisions to enhance
profits. It is pertinent to understand that a series of systematic decisions is undertaken before an
investment abroad is carried on with. According to Sundaram Stewart 1992 there is a system of
decision making that permits influence which refers to the firm s ability to coordinate and control
endogenous organizational variables and quasi endogenous market variables (coupled with
exogenous factors (e.g exchange rates, regulations, tariffs and political set up). Investment
decisions are critical for the performance of an organization. From a micro perspective, they are
fundamental for the growth of individual companies, increasing their efficiency by reducing per
unit costs, enhancing profits by tapping new market segments and exploiting more resources. At a
company s level, an investment decision abroad is much more complicated and requires more
research; it is more of a multi criteria process taking into account numerous factors. These are
primarily economic and risk factors, political and social environment and government regulations.
Naturally, the effects of these factors on decisions of individual companies may vary significantly.
Each of the risk has been separately defined

Tuckman s Stages Of Group Development Model
A Study on Tuckman s Stages of Group Development Model
1. Introduction
Over the past two decades, it seems that teamwork has become increasingly important and more
companies have formed different teams and groups for various purposes (Samson Daft, 2012). It
is proved that good teams can be highly productive, however, not every team is successful
(Samson Daft, 2012). Forming a team can be time consuming and there are many problems related
to teamwork, for example, social loafing might reduce the effectiveness of a team. Therefore, it is
crucial to know how to develop a good team with less time and less effort. Bruce Tuckman in 1965
developed the popular model for effective team building. This model identifies four stages of team
building which are forming, storming, norming and performing (Tuckman, 1965). Later on,
Tuckman added a fifth stage: adjourning to the model (Samson Daft, 2012). The five stage team
development model provides a guideline on how team works by using simple and easily
understandable words. However, there are some limitations of this theory as well. This paper in the
following will discuss both the utility and the limitations of Tuckman s team development stage
model. Then it will provide some suggestions based on the limitations of the model.

The History Of Musicals On Stage Is Broad And Extensive. There
The history of musicals on stage is broad and extensive. There are many different histories of stage
musicals: French operettas, Grecian plays, and Roman comedies are just a few. However, I am
going to focus on American musicals. The musical that many Americans are familiar with has its
roots in the French and Viennese operettas of the 1800s, but take their comic style from American
Variety and Minstrel Shows, which led to Vaudeville and Burlesque shows. Known to be the first
American musical, The Black Crook , produced in 1866, proved how profitable the musical theater
could be in the United States. After that the American musical really burst forth, with full length
burlesque shows and British imports of musicals, like... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie Singing in the Rain (1952) even offered a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood in the
late 1920s where the focus was on the transition from silent films to talkies . From the beginning,
audiences embraced screen musicals with tremendous enthusiasm, with The Jazz Singer (1927)
bringing in a slew of newcomer audiences as well as the usual stage musical goers. Even though
the stock market crash of 1929 caused almost a third of movies theaters in the U.S. to shut down,
the industry survived (but barely), because the public would use the few pennies they had to go
see a film that would make them forget the Depression for an hour and a half. Because of this,
film musicals attempted to provide happy and uplifting types of musicals, but they were not
extremely successful. Fast forward to 1933, when the Warner Bros. Studios gave audiences
dance infused musicals, including Forty Second Street , where Busby Berkeley took his
reputation and experience as a dance director for several Broadway shows and helped rebuild
film musicals rapport. Due to the fact that, in the 1940s, America was fully focused on World War
II in one way or another, Yankee Doodle Dandy was produced in 1942 by Warner Bros. Studios,
and was a musical biography of George M. Cohan, The Man Who Owned Broadway . This musical
highlighted the American patriotism and values that many

I got sick on the expedition, but I faced it and was fine. My son also got sick, but we helped him

Social Presence Theory Paper
The rise of technology and, consequently, social network sites have popularized a new method of
socialization known as computer mediated communication (CMC) communication between two
or more people that occurs and is contained on electronic devices. With this phenomenon
spawned several theories that researchers have been trying to answer, including the social
presence theory. This theory examines how CMC replaces physical face to face interaction and
the consequences of this communicative exchange. CMC allows a variety of communicative
mediums which each have their own level of physical salience, or social presence. For instance,
video messaging a friend may seem more personal than text messaging because video message
allows the message sender to actually see and hear the receiver s voice. This makes it easier to
notice and pick up on the emotions, expressions, and nonverbal cues during the conversation. The
social presence theory argues that CMC with higher feelings of social presence will be more
personal and intimate whereas CMC with lower feelings social presence are considered detached

I Am A Great Or Horrible Thing
Flooding, depending on how one deals with it, can be a great or awful thing. The day after
Houston s historic flood started with gloomy gray skies, horrendous humidity, and me sitting on
the couch staring blankly at the T.V. The ecstatic voices of each advertisement after
advertisement filled my ears. This was supposed to be a day of excitement and fun but it seemed
as if the rain had destroyed those plans. I was leaving to New York for the summer and wouldn t

they had any idea of what we could do to spend this last day together. They came up with an idea
to make the most out of an otherwise terrible day. In no time they showed up, I was taken away in

Romeo And Juliet Vs Luhrmann
In both versions of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, Juliet voices her concerns about getting
married too quickly; however, the Luhrmann version uses lighting and music in a static manner,
which conveys a feeling of ignoring the seriousness of the scene, whereas the Zeffirelli version
changes the music and lighting with the emotion of the scene to effectively convey Juliet s
concerns. In the 1996 Luhrmann version of Romeo and Juliet, the use of music to convey Juliet s
uncertainty of marriage is less effective than the use of music in the 1968 Zeffirelli version. In Baz

with, O gentle Romeo, / If thou dost love, pronounce it faithfully. / Or, if thou thinkest I am too

represented, but in the Zeffirelli version, it is in full effect. The rear lighting on Juliet is used to
convey innocence because at this time all her emotions and thoughts are out in the open and she is
vulnerable, so the lack of halo effect muddles the emotional aspect of Juliet s confessions. Baz
Luhrmann uses dark, neutral lighting in the beginning of the balcony scene until Romeo reveals
his presence to Juliet and they both fall into the Capulet s pool. In the pool the lighting is much
brighter, but still very neutral on both Romeo and Juliet, especially when Juliet says, Although I joy

challenges that impact the way business is conducted in Israel through current culture and political
environments, business ethics, and corruption. As well as, trading, Free TradeAgreements, and
trends.
Historical Background
The country of Israel was founded in early 1948 (Bard, 1998). Israel is currently, the only Jewish
state in the world and was recently ranked by US News and World Reports, as the 8th most
powerful country in the world in 2015 as stated in article Jewish virtual library (Bard, 1998). Israel
has a terrain which consists of mostly mountains, plains, coasts, and desert. The country has a
population of about 7.59 million citizens with an annual population growth rate of (2009 est.):
1.7% (Background notes on countries of the world: Israel, 2010). Since the 1980 s, Israel began to
earn a sufficient amount of wealth from the country s natural resources in fertilizers and pesticides,
petrochemicals and plastics. Unfortunately for Israel, every good thing eventually comes to an end.
While the country has had a lot of natural resources in the past, the country began to see more
pollution and a steady decline in the country s resources in the year 2012. As mentioned in the
article, The Environmental Impact of Israeli Settlements on the Occupied

The Basic Characteristics Of Humanism During The Renaissance
Some of the basic characteristics of Humanism especially during the beginning were that it mostly
consisted and was centralized around Italy. The reading mentions that something that made Italy
different from Europe was that their members were part of the clergy. Being part of the clergy
defiantly have them an advantage in which they had some governmental and educational
experience. Something else that the reading mentions is that humanism meant rhetoric and
literature bases. In my opinion, this was really important because it focuses more attention on the
importance of education, history, and literature. This was just a starting point of what education
and the importance of it would eventually become. The beginning of humanism also bega the
practicing of history, one in which people actually wrote in means of history actually writing for it.
Humanitism increased in popularity and therefore inspired others to learn and do the same. Italians
viewed this situation as a preparation for the public life. With this, not only people benefit but the
whole society as a whole were benefited.
The classical value overall during the Renaissance was very impacting. I believe this because not
only did the Humanism thinking and Humanists help somehow develop better ways of thinking.
This not only opened new ways, but also better ways to think, act, and even create. The development
of Humanism helped create interest in new and even some controversial ideas. Rhe reading

Compare And Contrast Hebrew And Phoenician Alphabets
Most people in ancient history gained influence over other people and became significant in history
by means of military conquest and the establishment of empires. By contrast, the Phoenicians and
the Hebrews shaped the development of world history in less aggressive ways. The Phoenicians
established trading posts and colonies throughout the Mediterranean Sea and all the way to the
Atlantic coast of what we now know as Portugal. More importantly, however, they created a
phonetic system of transcribing meaning that they generated an alphabet. This was known as an
overwhelming achievement in regards to culture. Prior to this, writers of hieroglyphics and
cuneiform had established signs that had been used to signify sounds, however they were always
utilized with a larger number of ideograms.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This system vastly simplified reading and writing and then spread among other people as a
sensible means of communication and record keeping. The Phoenicians then modified this simpler
technique for their own language, and then spread it throughout the Mediterranean. The Greeks
then modified this new alphabet for their own language. Later, the Romans grounded their
alphabet on Greek. The Romans alphabet is actually the script that we use to write English in
today s world. Alphabets built on the Phoenician alphabet were formed in the Persian Empire and
shaped the basis of Arabic, Hebrew, and other alphabets of Central and South Asia. In short, the
system that was conceived by normal people and later spread by Phoenician merchants is the
source of most of our world s phonetic alphabets that are in use

Dow Chemical Essay example
Dow Chemical
Topic: Dow Chemicals
I decided to construct my essay on Dow Chemicals (DC) Company after reading an article in
Business Week. Dow Chemical appears to be developing an aggressive market strategy that aligns
with our class topics, and that I have found very interesting. Dow Chemical (DC) company, over the
last seven years has built their strategy around and focused on their niche , which is core chemicals
plastics manufacturing operations, while simultaneously reducing infrastructure debt, expanding its
market share, and apparently building new strategic alliances.
According to Dow Chemical CEO William Stavropoulos, The mission and goals of Dow Chemical
company is to be a world leader in chemical and plastics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This may be why Dow Chemical chose to focus on its niche and divest $10 billion in unrelated
businesses. Dow Chemical then performed an Internal analysis to pinpoint its internal strengths
and weaknesses, and finally performed a SWOT analysis or a competitive comparison between
Dow Chemical and its external competitors to build upon their strength s in order to exploit
opportunities, counter threats, and also to shore up weaknesses. Dow Chemicals market
maneuvers evidence the application of Business level and Global level strategies, as well as
consideration of stakeholders profit levels. The Dow Chemicals Business level strategy is
indicated by the way it positioned itself in the marketplace by extracting some elements of a
Differentiation strategy and some elements of a Cost Leadership Strategy to gain a competitive
market advantage. By Differentiation strategy, I mean to say that Dow Chemical elected to seek a
competitive advantage by creating new innovative products that their customer base considers to be
unique and important, and maintaining a simple organizational structure.
Dow Chemical has incorporated some elements of cost leadership by adopting a decentralized
form of management, a more hands on control of day to day

Water Scarcity And Water Pollution
A Basic Necessity
Introduction
The amount of available fresh water is very limited in Benin, Africa. Much of this is a result of
under urbanization, at one end of the spectrum, and poor government and infrastructure, at the
other end. The population of Benin is roughly 10,160,556. It is estimated that each individual
produces about 77 pounds of excrement and 132 gallons of urine a year (George 2008). This is
waste that is typically flushed down a toilet and into a sewer system. However, this is not the case
in many of these communities. Many homes in this part of the world do not have the luxury of
indoor plumbing or even a indoor toilet. These people must utilize fields for their means of
eliminating human waste. It is astounding to think of the infinite uses of water, and the need that
some countries have for it.
The current predicament Africa is facing is dealing with water scarcity and water pollution. So
where do we go from here? Composting Chemical toilets or dry systems as they are sometimes
known are waterless toilets that use microorganisms to break down human waste. While the story
behind composting toilets has been around for a long time, the composting toilets of today have
evolved to include a variety of features that make it even more appealing to these rural areas than a
flushing toilet. Without any type of sewer system in place a flushing toilet is not seen to be placed
in these homes in the near future. The point of a composting toilet is very clear;

Post-Racial Volunteering
Volunteering in a Post Racial Society
I chose to volunteer with Alliance San Diego because it seemed like a group that cared about
justice for everyone. And they did not appear to be a sit by and wait around group, they were a
group of angry activist fighting for justice even before the election. Safe to say when the election
was between Hillary and Donald, shit hit the fan. Our country was in complete disarray, stuck
between a candidate they did not like, and a candidate hell bent on killing us all. The obvious
option was the spawn of Satan, clearly. In our current situation activism is necessary. A lot of
Alliance s work has to do with people of color. Before the election it was encouraging people to
vote, educating them on their option, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

any importance in environmental policy, which is connected to their concerns and their well being.
I think this all falls under the lack of education in these communities. Not just learning about climate

Meta-Organizations
Meta organizations for Public Health Service: a study of the Brazilian Telehealth Program. On the
other hand, Ahrne Brunsson (2010) pointed out that M O members have strong reasons to mitigate
its impact on their own autonomy and identity. However, according to the authors, if all members
are successful in making autonomous decisions, it is difficult to achieve coordination or undertake
collective action. If each member maintains its identity, then the common identity, the status, and
the ease of interaction will be threatened. M O members have not only strong reasons to maintain
their identity and autonomy, but also great capacity to do so, since many M O members have more
resources and more status than their own M O. According to Ahrne Brunsson, it is important for an
M O to attract members with the highest status. If the purpose is to maintain or increase the status
of the members, the M O must be able to include and retain the most important members because its
legitimacy is dependent on the success to recruit potential affiliates. Some organizations are more
attractive than others are , and for the M O to recruit all relevant members, it has to recruit the most
talented ones (i.e., those with more resources and greater competence). Moreover, M Os are more
limited, controlling fewer resources than most of its members, a situation that is rare in traditional
organizations.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Manifesto Of The Communist Party
The Communist Manifesto, originally drafted as, Manifesto of the Communist Party , is a
pamphlet written by Karl Marx, that in essence reflects an attempt to explain the goals and
objectives of Communism, while also explaining the concrete theories about the nature of society in
relation to the political ideology. The Communist Manifesto breaks down the relationship of socio
economic classes and specifically identifies the friction between those classes. Karl Marxessentially
presents a well analyzed understanding of class struggles and the issues concerning capitalism, the
means and modes of production and how those means affect the classes as a whole.
Every society is structured or designed with the intention to form social classes; classes that will
determine the social mobility of each individual living within it. Within the social hierarchy, there is
inevitably one class that essentially oppresses the others. The Communist Manifesto features The
Bourgeoisie and The Proletarians, and explains that the relationship between the two classes is a
common frictional relationship that has occurred countless times throughout history. It explains
that the modern Bourgeoisie will eventually fall, due to their inability to maintain a lifestyle for the
proletarians; which is ultimately caused by the instability of capitalism.
The goals of Communism are clearly set forward in the process. Marx informs us that Communism
is established to achieve 3 major things: to solidly form

Social Network Structures And Its Impact On The Formation...
Organization structure defined by leadership has a considerable impact on the formation of social
networks. From psychological research during the 1940s and 1950s, it became evident that
individuals gather into groups as a result of interaction opportunities, most commonly defined by
places where people meet (Burt, Kilduff, and Tasselli, 2013). While it has been established that
different social networkstructures can prove to be advantageous in differing scenarios, it is often
believed that a greater number of connections in the workplace is beneficial, as meaningful
relationships can lead to a sense of belonging and pride in an organization. Consequently, in many
scenarios, facilitating interaction opportunities can be a common goal of management; providing
employees the opportunity to get to know and learn from one another, whether through
onboarding or continuous employee development, promotes the forming of groups and increase
of density in a social network. As groups form, a new identity may be created, often characterized
by signs of symbolic convergence. These signs might take on the form of inside jokes, symbols,
behaviors, or similar views and begin to define what it means to be in the group. At the same time
as a group forms, an in group and out group frequently begin to develop those who belong to the
group in question and those who do not. The membership discrepancy among in groups and out
groups can turn problematic if taken too far. Although there is some

Executive summary
The aim of this report is try to evaluate how the insurance industry has developed in Brazil since it
began its operation in 1808, operating in the begging only with maritime insurance through
company named Boa FГ©. During that time Brazil was still a colony of Portugal and Boa FГ©

In 2012, that market grossed U.S. $ 252.4 billion in direct premiums of insurance, health
insurance, pension contributions and savings bonds. Such awards and contributions served to
increase provisions amounting to R$ 420 billion, which represented 5.69 % of GDP. Provisions
have also secured the payment of compensation of claims, welfare benefits and redemption of
pension plans and capitalization of R $ 135.2 billion in 2012 (3.05% of GDP). The importance of
the sector exceeds, by far, the numeric expression. Indeed, everyday life, as we know since the
Industrial Revolution, would be impossible without insurance. The companies could not take risks
as they do at present, so your investment would be severely restricted and, with them, the future
expansion of the economies. Entire markets would collapse: just imagine what would happen with
the sale of cars, with the credit market and the trade if there was not the support of insurance. The
insurance industry, increasingly supplements the State in providing critical services in health and
social security, and in doing so, allows the state to focus attention and resources on meeting the
needs of the poorest sectors of the population.
Nowadays The Brazilian insurance industry is living it golden ages. Brazil for the past two
decades has become one of the most attractive places for insurance

On the positive aspect, social accounting can help individual companies identify and utilize
opportunities for cost effectiveness, introduction of profitable eco friendly products and services,
energy saving and environmental protection (Defourny and Thorbecke, 1984). Also, both current
and future concerns of stakeholders forewarn companies about any possible area of conflict.
Yanovsky (2006) further claimed that companies become aware of the probable risk factors that are
capable of affecting their business operations, which afford the chance for companies to prepare the
coping mechanism.
2.3 Principles of Good and global standards
Good accounts must accord a series of principles. In general, good principles of social accounting
have to be inclusive, involving dialogue with stakeholders; to be complete, highlighting the key
areas of the individual company s activities; to be embedded within the organization; to be
comparable, undergo external verification, and give room for continuous improvements. These
principles should take both companies own management practices and the performance
measurements comparison with other companies into consideration (Montgomery and Porter,
1991). Such principles have to be incorporated within the

Prenatal Care For Young Women Essay
Prenatal Care for Young Women
Most young mothers are worried about a number of new changes that will impact them socially,
physically and emotionally. Prenatal care can be neglected due to an unexpected pregnancy, not
being educated on what to do, or not having resources to get care. Prenatal care is very important
to a child s early development. Prenatal care can mean several things like cutting back on caffeine
and stopping smoking. It can also mean soon after conception beginning to care for yourself and
the baby as well as starting to schedule regular checkups with a doctor.
Healthy People 2020 wants to help mothers, infants and children achieve optimal preconception
health, and interconception health. The main goal is reducing the infant mortality rate and preterm
births. In order to achieve this, it is important that mothers are educated on how to take care of their
body and their growing baby. Preconception (before pregnancy) and interconception (between
pregnancies) care provide an opportunity to identify existing health risks and to prevent health
problems for women and their children. These problems include heart disease, diabetes, genetic
conditions, sexually transmitted diseases and unhealthy weight (Office of Disease Prevention and
Health Promotion, 2016). According to the CDC (2016), teen pregnancy in the United States is
not as large of a problem as it had been between 1990 and 2008. Teen pregnancy is isolated in
females ages 15 19. Ideally women should

Yet many people don t realize that how important it is in life until it could be taken away. John Thorson, a water rights and lawyer, says water links us to our neighbor in a way more profound and complex than any other. It is a way people are connected around economically, socially, and environmentally. Some struggle to have clean water to drink and others can not find clean water at all. Inspectors soon came upon a 40,000 gallon tank that had been leaking from a chemical storage unit. The object was an oily substance. It had run into the Elk River just upstream from an intake of a drinking water supply for 300,000 people. The chemical that leaked into the river was used for washing mined coal. At 6 p.m., after residents had been using their tap water all day, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin declared a state of emergency, ordering people in nine counties not to drink, cook with or bathe in the contaminated water. (Weeks) If there isn t any water to drink from the faucet then how do you get any water? People quickly went for stores to get bottles of water so they could at least drink. After some test the government said the water was okay to use. Yet people were still filling up the hospital with unknown rashes, nausea, and other symptoms. The spill revealed the flaws and uncertainty of the federal and state laws. This time the water linked the people of Charleston to the government. The government didn t take the right precautions and told the people the water was safe to drink. But people kept getting sick. So they thought maybe there is still something wrong in the water and then told people that the water might not be very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was after India got its Independence in 1947 that the Nation has ready to frame its own remote arrangement. India association with the Soviet Union began off extremely well because of Pandit Nehru s drive. Indias relations with the Soviet Union in those initial five year after autonomy were conflicted, guided by Nehru s choice, to remain neutral and take dynamic part in the Commonwealth of Nations. Binge drinking is drinking large amounts of alcohol for the purpose of getting drunk. Teenagers generally do this on a weekend and the drink of choice is the sweet flavoured Alcopops. These drinks come in a variety of cool colour and flavours and are marketed at the younger target group Binge drinking is a widely used term, and is the act of drinking heavily over a short period of time or over several days. Alcopops are the only alcoholic drink whose popularity declines with age. • 5. The Theme Of Madness In Hamlet And Shakespeare s Hamlet Shakespeare is known for the many reoccurring themes in his tragedies. One such theme is that of love causing madness. One prime example of this is Ophelia s downfall in Hamlet. Hamlet has been transformed into motion pictures any times, and two show the theme of madness in Ophelia in different ways: the 1990 version of Hamlet created by Zeffirelli and the 1996 version by Branagh. While both actresses that played Ophelia conveyed the madness well, they took different approaches in terms of vocal inflections and movements. The directors also took different approaches to portray madness like costumes and settings. Lastly, while Bonham Carter s Ophelia in 1990 shows some ambiguity in the reasons behind her madness, Blanchett s Ophelia in 1996 does not. The major scene that shows the madness Ophelia has descended into is in act four scene five. The two portrayals by Helen Bonham Carter and Kate Blanchett are quite different as shown by their acting of this scene. First, Bonham Carter s movements appear much more calculated than Blanchett s movements, as Blanchett primarily lies on the ground trashing out in a random manner. Bonham Carter, on the other hand, walks around the set with a purposeful stride (witchywoman4u12, 2011). Next, they also speak quite differently. Blanchett screams the majority of the speech and speaks with an inflection that speaks of unsureness. Bonham Carter speaks with a calmer tone like she knows exactly what she is saying. Lastly, when Ophelia has interactions between herself and another character like her conversations with Gertrude and Claudius, Blanchett s Ophelia appears to be unaware of her surroundings and other people initiate the conversations (Aaron Bradford, 2013). Unlike the 1996 version, Bonham Carter gets up close to people when she is talking to them, and initiates the conversations between herself and Claudius and Gertrude. This happens during Ophelia s lines, Where is the beauteous majesty of Denmark...How should I your true love know From another one? By his cockle hat and staff, And his sandal shoon...Say you? nay, pray you, mark. When you hear, or say that term, the visual that may come to mind may be: criminal, old western movie, or even a comparison to a relationship. But in relation to the movie Wanted it stands for nothing but a guy that wanted no more in life but to find his purpose. A lot of us in this world never actually find our purpose in life, we just kind of settle for what we are able to do. We go through trials and tribulations to find ourselves, and find anything that will make our lives more satisfying, including putting ourselves in harms way to do it. His whole intention throughout the movie was to prove that he could become more than what he always has considered himself, which is below average. When Wesley was in training he got beat up by multiple people in the fraternity, in an attempt to make him physically strong to stand anything. He learned tasks including fighting, knife work, and also how to curve a bullet. When he was learning to curve the bullet Sloan, played by Morgan Freeman, states The first time in your life Wesley, you are in control (Bekmambetov, Wanted). As he shoots multiple bullets and still pierces the wrong target, Fox then stands in the middle of him and the target and says, shoot the target (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). As hesitant as he was he knew he had to have confidence in himself to complete the task. As he shoots around Fox, not knowing if the bullet would hit her, he takes his shot and hits the correct target. Sloan then says Welcome to the fraternity (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). He then knew all his hard work had paid off! That part of the movie showed strength and perseverance. Another way both themes, deceit and perseverance, were shown was at the end of the movie when ... I believe with this statement because once again I can relate to this particular topic to my own life in the fact that I grew up with divorced parents. According to Moller, most marriages tend to fall through as backlash of ongoing time with each other s and this in fact is the reason my parents signed their divorcepapers. I also believe an abundant amount of people in society concurs with this statement considering most people know of a friend, colleague, familymember, etc. that knows of a divorced couple due to no longer enjoying each other s time. The advent of department stores during the Gilded Age opened a new opportunity to woman who for the first time were targeted consumers. The department store s of the Gilded Age aimed to transform the shopping experience into a leisure activity. Women were not heading to a shop because they needed a dress, but rather because they needed a distraction. Many stores provided public restrooms a first for women, as well as pampering services, refreshments, and top of the line customer service. In addition womancould congregate and shop with friends while discovering new fashion to wear to whatever pop up exhibit was in town. The movement towards premade fashion, at fixed prices meant that women were able to buy their clothing on the spot. This was the first time that women were allowed to attract attention, and they were rewarded if they did so with proper panche However, as time goes forth and fads change, the tribulations of a woman s body image has stayed a constant struggle even with acceptance of women in the public sphere. The rejection of the small, thin, and retiring female image came at a time when women were, in every way, becoming more visible. The Gilded age was a time when larger women were seen as more attractive. What Is The Difference Between A P And Harrison Bergeron Tim Kenda English 102 Short Story Essay 2/28/10 Heroism Through Choice When people think of heroes, they often think of muscle bound men in spandex with unrealistic powers of flight, strength, or x ray vision. But in real life, heroes are often determined based on the smallest of situations and their outcomes. In both of the stories I have chosen (A P and Harrison Bergeron), the main characters are classified as heroes because of their willingness to defy the authoritive forces around them, whether it be the store manager Lengel in A P or the Handicapper General in Harrison Bergeron, as well as their willingness to strike out on their own instead of adhering to social norms. At the end of the story, the cashier becomes a symbol of the thoughts of many young people during the late fifties and early sixties. He does not want to work in the same dreary place for his whole life. He does not want to be just like his parents and Lengel. And despite that fact that he knows it will be hard, he makes the decision to strike out on his own, and consequently to fight back against what he views as a dreary and depressing reality. That is a hard decision to make, and a heroic one as well. As a result of his actions, the cashier in A P not only commits a heroic gesture, he also becomes a symbol of the change that was taking place in the late fifties and early sixties. Many young people at that point in time were breaking away from what their parents were doing and were bravely striking off onto their own paths, just like the hero in our story. I found the article to be intriguing mainly as a result of the disturbing topic it revolved around. Stories of child murderers are relatively uncommon and oppose societal norms which is why I find them to be interesting. Moreover, I have always been curious to learn more about child murderers as I do not understand why a child would want to murder their family, which is also why I was drawn to this article. • 15. The Pros And Cons Of UFO Religions The reasons UFO religions are hounded for evidence can largely be attributed to defense of one s beliefs. If evidence is not provided it is taken as proof that their claims are faulty, and the current mainstream beliefs can be upheld without contention. The perception of the past, present and future remains unchanged and unchallenged. Mainstream traditional beliefs are not required to provide proof because of their age, and any evidence provided is difficult to validate. UFO religions and established religions have an abundance of similarities when compared according to characteristics of religions. This makes it difficult to justify the ridicule of one and not the other. My views of UFO religions have largely been informed by the media prior to this class, when a competing, compelling perspective was introduced. Mainstream, established religions operate within society based on faith alone, not empirical evidence. There is a widespread perception of legitimacy based on the amount of time these religions, such as Buddhism or Catholicism, have existed and operated. Since we were not alive for the birth of these religions, their belief systems are taken for granted. Many do not feel the need to question the existence of mainstream deities because their existence has become entrenched in society through the birth of new members into these religions. When one is born into a religion, the beliefs are less likely to be questioned because it is the community and the reality in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consider the Organised Mind, and I think some neuroscience can shed some light on this line thing but before that, let s consider birds forexample, according to our most recent understanding, a perfect bird (or any Platonic ideal) is a concept that exists only as a collection of neuronal connections. When I say a perfect bird , I mean the sort you might find in a children s book, or that a child would draw. A sparrow is close to a perfect bird. it flies, it s smallish, it builds nests, it has fluffy feathers... a penguin, however, is not a perfect bird (psychologically). Some people might add tenative language, like well, a penguin is *technically* a bird... and this reluctance is due to the penguin not sharing as many features of the Platonic ideal. Another example would be a whale. Many children might assume a whale to be a fish I know I did. When I first learnt otherwise, I said things like Did you know a whale is technically a mammal ? As if it shouldn t qualify to be a whole and entire mammal. But we are not born with an innate knowledge of mammal dom or bird dom. Instead, the chronology seems to go ... Miscommunication In Sense And Sensibility, By Jane Austen Problems From Miscommunication Throughout history, relationships between people have been questioned based off what people have heard or seen. Jane Austen writes the love story of two sisters, Elinor and Marianne, that have conflicts when it comes to their relationships caused by miscommunication. In Sense and Sensibility, Jane Austen reveals the danger of making judgements on insufficient information through relationships between the characters. Miscommunication creates confusion and a mix of emotions from the characters. Marianne thought she met her prince charming, Willoughby, when she fell and he saved her. He saved her after she fell. Willoughby had a manly beauty with a good name behind him (Austen 44 45). To Sir John, Willoughby was as good a kind of fellow as ever lived because he was pleasant and a good humored fellow (Austen 45). Once Marianne finds that out, she is sure that Willoughby was the type of man she liked because of his eagerness and she was assured that he was well worth catching (Austen 46). From that day, Marianne and Willoughby had a well established relationship, and some questioned if they had gotten engaged, due to how much time they were spending together. Then, Willoughby suddenly has to leave Barton for business in town. Mrs. Jennings, a few months later, invites Marianne and Elinor to town with her. • 23. Voodoo In African American Culture Voodoo is the modernized term for Haitian Vodou. It developed in Haiti during the slavery era when African Caribbean slaves were working on plantations. It has roots in African American spirituality, in Native American practices, and in Roman Catholicism. The central understanding in voodoo is that it is more about what you do than it is what you believe. While it may be referred to as a religion, this is actually more of a way of life for those who practice and participate in rituals. In doing these rituals, the practitioners are engaging in worship of the Lwa which is Haitian Creole for a group of spirits. To continue with, in order for the ritual to commence they needed to ask the spirits for authorization. Each one of the Hon gan s spirits were called on and asked if he could proceed with the ritual. After they gave him that authorization, he pulled out a powder. Powders in these rituals are generally used to amplify the ritual. In this case, the powder was used so that the spirits can carry the message of the Hon gan. It is the powder that allows the Hon gan to ask for what he needs. The priest blowed this powder into the air in four directions. Then he took out a white jar candle. Traditionally white is a color which is used to signal spiritual blessings. He marked this candle with a knife. This is done so the spirits may have passage. Then he lit the candle and began to pray again. It is with this prayer, that the spirit gives the Hon gan passage. The Hon gan entered this passage and lit a lamp. This part isn t something we can physically see. But then he sprinkled powder onto the candle which he says was sprinkling powder onto the lamp. It was at this point that the Hon gan took the candle and placed it in the middle of a large white bowl which he placed at the center of the room. It is a horror fiction story which demonstrate the fascinating changes that the human mind has during the abuse of alcohol. The protagonist is physiological corrupter by the abuse of alcohol and his mind play games with itself. He changes his personality as the story progresses and the way that he treats others around him. Everyone is affected by his behavior even his lovely cat. The cat becomes the object of his hate and in some way it is the first thing that he blames about his irrational acts. In dramatic Irony, occurs when the readers are aware about what is going to happen, but the characters do not have any clue about what is going on. In The Black Cat , the story begins with the main character sentenced to death, but with one story to tell. The Irony here is that he was not aware about how his life was going to change. In the beginning he is describing how happy was his childhood and how much he loved his pets. In the second paragraph of the story the main character describes his personality as a child in the first sentence From my infancy I was noted for the docility and humanity of my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions (3). He was a lovely child with an uncertain future. Another irony finds it on the story is how he describes the fidelity and love that the man can own There is something in the unselfish and self sacrificing love of a brute, which goes directly to the heart of him who has had frequent occasion to test the paltry friendship and gossamer fidelity of mere Man (3 4). When the story is progressing he is transforming to a violent man without any act of compassion towards his faithful pet, which actually represented faithfulness. He is represented himself as a child with a lovely personality, but he is not aware that the lovely child was going to transform in an alcoholic man with a violent personality willing to kill mercilessly. ... Decision Making That Permits Influence An Investment Abroad INTRODUCTION: The world is changing more rapidly; consequently organizations are promptly the way they operate as well to ensure survival and growth in high velocity turbulent markets. To succeed an organization has to anticipate, react and even lead in terms of strategic decisions to enhance profits. It is pertinent to understand that a series of systematic decisions is undertaken before an investment abroad is carried on with. According to Sundaram Stewart 1992 there is a system of decision making that permits influence which refers to the firm s ability to coordinate and control endogenous organizational variables and quasi endogenous market variables (coupled with exogenous factors (e.g exchange rates, regulations, tariffs and political set up). Investment decisions are critical for the performance of an organization. From a micro perspective, they are fundamental for the growth of individual companies, increasing their efficiency by reducing per unit costs, enhancing profits by tapping new market segments and exploiting more resources. At a company s level, an investment decision abroad is much more complicated and requires more research; it is more of a multi criteria process taking into account numerous factors. These are primarily economic and risk factors, political and social environment and government regulations. • 30. Tuckman s Stages Of Group Development Model A Study on Tuckman s Stages of Group Development Model 1. Introduction Over the past two decades, it seems that teamwork has become increasingly important and more companies have formed different teams and groups for various purposes (Samson Daft, 2012). It is proved that good teams can be highly productive, however, not every team is successful (Samson Daft, 2012). Forming a team can be time consuming and there are many problems related to teamwork, for example, social loafing might reduce the effectiveness of a team. Therefore, it is crucial to know how to develop a good team with less time and less effort. Bruce Tuckman in 1965 developed the popular model for effective team building. This model identifies four stages of team building which are forming, storming, norming and performing (Tuckman, 1965). Later on, Tuckman added a fifth stage: adjourning to the model (Samson Daft, 2012). The five stage team development model provides a guideline on how team works by using simple and easily understandable words. However, there are some limitations of this theory as well. The musical that many Americans are familiar with has its roots in the French and Viennese operettas of the 1800s, but take their comic style from American Variety and Minstrel Shows, which led to Vaudeville and Burlesque shows. Even though the stock market crash of 1929 caused almost a third of movies theaters in the U.S. to shut down, the industry survived (but barely), because the public would use the few pennies they had to go see a film that would make them forget the Depression for an hour and a half. Social Presence Theory Paper The rise of technology and, consequently, social network sites have popularized a new method of socialization known as computer mediated communication (CMC) communication between two or more people that occurs and is contained on electronic devices. With this phenomenon spawned several theories that researchers have been trying to answer, including the social presence theory. This theory examines how CMC replaces physical face to face interaction and the consequences of this communicative exchange. CMC allows a variety of communicative mediums which each have their own level of physical salience, or social presence. For instance, video messaging a friend may seem more personal than text messaging because video message allows the message sender to actually see and hear the receiver s voice. This makes it easier to notice and pick up on the emotions, expressions, and nonverbal cues during the conversation. In the 1996 Luhrmann version of Romeo and Juliet, the use of music to convey Juliet s uncertainty of marriage is less effective than the use of music in the 1968 Zeffirelli version. In Baz Luhrmann s version of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, when Juliet tells Romeo, O, wear not by the moon, the inconstant moon, / That monthly, changes in her circled orb, /... When Romeo reveals that he has been listening to Juliet profess her lover for hom, she responds with, O gentle Romeo, / If thou dost love, pronounce it faithfully. / Or, if thou thinkest I am too quickly won, / I ll frown and be perverse and say thee nay, / So thou wilt woo, but else not for the world (2.2.98 103). During these lines, in the Luhrmann film the halo effect on Juliet is fairly represented, but in the Zeffirelli version, it is in full effect. The rear lighting on Juliet is used to convey innocence because at this time all her emotions and thoughts are out in the open and she is vulnerable, so the lack of halo effect muddles the emotional aspect of Juliet s confessions. Baz Luhrmann uses dark, neutral lighting in the beginning of the balcony scene until Romeo reveals his presence to Juliet and they both fall into the Capulet s pool. In the pool the lighting is much brighter, but still very neutral on both Romeo and Juliet, especially when Juliet says, Although I joy in thee, I have no joy of this contract tonight. It is too rash, too unadvised, too sudden, Too like the lightning, which doth cease to be Ere one can say It lightens (2.2.123 127). The static lighting does not put any emphasis on the ... • 38. The Basic Characteristics Of Humanism During The Renaissance Some of the basic characteristics of Humanism especially during the beginning were that it mostly consisted and was centralized around Italy. The reading mentions that something that made Italy different from Europe was that their members were part of the clergy. Being part of the clergy defiantly have them an advantage in which they had some governmental and educational experience. Something else that the reading mentions is that humanism meant rhetoric and literature bases. In my opinion, this was really important because it focuses more attention on the importance of education, history, and literature. This was just a starting point of what education and the importance of it would eventually become. The beginning of humanism also bega the practicing of history, one in which people actually wrote in means of history actually writing for it. Humanitism increased in popularity and therefore inspired others to learn and do the same. Italians viewed this situation as a preparation for the public life. With this, not only people benefit but the whole society as a whole were benefited. The classical value overall during the Renaissance was very impacting. I believe this because not only did the Humanism thinking and Humanists help somehow develop better ways of thinking. This not only opened new ways, but also better ways to think, act, and even create. The development of Humanism helped create interest in new and even some controversial ideas. Compare And Contrast Hebrew And Phoenician Alphabets Most people in ancient history gained influence over other people and became significant in history by means of military conquest and the establishment of empires. By contrast, the Phoenicians and the Hebrews shaped the development of world history in less aggressive ways. The Phoenicians established trading posts and colonies throughout the Mediterranean Sea and all the way to the Atlantic coast of what we now know as Portugal. More importantly, however, they created a phonetic system of transcribing meaning that they generated an alphabet. This was known as an overwhelming achievement in regards to culture. Prior to this, writers of hieroglyphics and cuneiform had established signs that had been used to signify sounds, however they were always utilized with a larger number of ideograms.... Later, the Romans grounded their alphabet on Greek. The Romans alphabet is actually the script that we use to write English in today s world. Alphabets built on the Phoenician alphabet were formed in the Persian Empire and shaped the basis of Arabic, Hebrew, and other alphabets of Central and South Asia. Dow Chemicals market maneuvers evidence the application of Business level and Global level strategies, as well as consideration of stakeholders profit levels. The Dow Chemicals Business level strategy is indicated by the way it positioned itself in the marketplace by extracting some elements of a Differentiation strategy and some elements of a Cost Leadership Strategy to gain a competitive market advantage. By Differentiation strategy, I mean to say that Dow Chemical elected to seek a competitive advantage by creating new innovative products that their customer base considers to be unique and important, and maintaining a simple organizational structure. • 41. Water Scarcity And Water Pollution A Basic Necessity Introduction The amount of available fresh water is very limited in Benin, Africa. Much of this is a result of under urbanization, at one end of the spectrum, and poor government and infrastructure, at the other end. The population of Benin is roughly 10,160,556. It is estimated that each individual produces about 77 pounds of excrement and 132 gallons of urine a year (George 2008). This is waste that is typically flushed down a toilet and into a sewer system. However, this is not the case in many of these communities. Many homes in this part of the world do not have the luxury of indoor plumbing or even a indoor toilet. These people must utilize fields for their means of eliminating human waste. It is astounding to think of the infinite uses of water, and the need that some countries have for it. The current predicament Africa is facing is dealing with water scarcity and water pollution. So where do we go from here? Composting Chemical toilets or dry systems as they are sometimes known are waterless toilets that use microorganisms to break down human waste. While the story behind composting toilets has been around for a long time, the composting toilets of today have evolved to include a variety of features that make it even more appealing to these rural areas than a flushing toilet. Without any type of sewer system in place a flushing toilet is not seen to be placed in these homes in the near future. The point of a composting toilet is very clear; ... On the other hand, Ahrne Brunsson (2010) pointed out that M O members have strong reasons to mitigate its impact on their own autonomy and identity. However, according to the authors, if all members are successful in making autonomous decisions, it is difficult to achieve coordination or undertake collective action. If each member maintains its identity, then the common identity, the status, and the ease of interaction will be threatened. M O members have not only strong reasons to maintain their identity and autonomy, but also great capacity to do so, since many M O members have more resources and more status than their own M O. According to Ahrne Brunsson, it is important for an M O to attract members with the highest status. If the purpose is to maintain or increase the status of the members, the M O must be able to include and retain the most important members because its legitimacy is dependent on the success to recruit potential affiliates. Some organizations are more attractive than others are , and for the M O to recruit all relevant members, it has to recruit the most talented ones (i.e., those with more resources and greater competence). Manifesto Of The Communist Party The Communist Manifesto, originally drafted as, Manifesto of the Communist Party , is a pamphlet written by Karl Marx, that in essence reflects an attempt to explain the goals and objectives of Communism, while also explaining the concrete theories about the nature of society in relation to the political ideology. The Communist Manifesto breaks down the relationship of socio economic classes and specifically identifies the friction between those classes. Karl Marxessentially presents a well analyzed understanding of class struggles and the issues concerning capitalism, the means and modes of production and how those means affect the classes as a whole. Every society is structured or designed with the intention to form social classes; classes that will determine the social mobility of each individual living within it. Within the social hierarchy, there is inevitably one class that essentially oppresses the others. The Communist Manifesto features The Bourgeoisie and The Proletarians, and explains that the relationship between the two classes is a common frictional relationship that has occurred countless times throughout history. It explains that the modern Bourgeoisie will eventually fall, due to their inability to maintain a lifestyle for the proletarians; which is ultimately caused by the instability of capitalism. The goals of Communism are clearly set forward in the process. Marx informs us that Communism is established to achieve 3 major things: to solidly form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Social Network Structures And Its Impact On The Formation... Organization structure defined by leadership has a considerable impact on the formation of social networks. From psychological research during the 1940s and 1950s, it became evident that individuals gather into groups as a result of interaction opportunities, most commonly defined by places where people meet (Burt, Kilduff, and Tasselli, 2013). While it has been established that different social networkstructures can prove to be advantageous in differing scenarios, it is often believed that a greater number of connections in the workplace is beneficial, as meaningful relationships can lead to a sense of belonging and pride in an organization. Consequently, in many scenarios, facilitating interaction opportunities can be a common goal of management; providing employees the opportunity to get to know and learn from one another, whether through onboarding or continuous employee development, promotes the forming of groups and increase of density in a social network. As groups form, a new identity may be created, often characterized by signs of symbolic convergence. These signs might take on the form of inside jokes, symbols, behaviors, or similar views and begin to define what it means to be in the group. At the same time as a group forms, an in group and out group frequently begin to develop those who belong to the group in question and those who do not. The membership discrepancy among in groups and out groups can turn problematic if taken too far. Although there is some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Entire markets would collapse: just imagine what would happen with the sale of cars, with the credit market and the trade if there was not the support of insurance.
