The Role Of Sarah Williams In Huck Finn
The woman invited Huck inside, and he tells her his name is Sarah Williams. Huck tells her that he
will stay there to rest for a while, but then be on his way once again. They discuss a few topics, but
eventually start talking about Huck s murder. The woman says that it was thought to be Pap that killed
Huck, but then others thought it was Jim since he had run away. She said that people are out looking
for Jim, and they think that he is on Jackson s Island. Her husband would be going out there to look
after he comes home. Huck starts to panic after hearing this, and starts to ask questions. The woman
gets suspicious and asks again what his name was. Huck replies saying his name is Mary Williams,
when before he said Sarah Williams. The woman

Railroad Tunnel Research Paper
Through the black train exhaust smoke pouring out of a large hole at the bottom of the Hoosac
Mountain Range, the date of 1877 slowly appears at the top of the East Portal facade of the Hoosac
Tunnel. The hard work and determination of engineers and workers resulted in the creation of an
American symbol for technological advancement in tunneling. The railroad tunnel passes through the
towns of North Adams and Florida, Massachusetts, stretching 4.75 miles. The construction began in
1854 but after suffering many setbacks, the tunnel was finished and finally approved for train service
in 1875. Throughout the twenty five years, technology drastically improved from the very beginning
to the end as engineers discovered more efficient ways to dig into the unpredictable mountain rock.
This progression greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The technological progression is astounding since the tools, resources, and knowledge of mountain
ground varied. In the early history of mining, it was first thoroughly developed in the Middle Ages
within the states of Germany, then a Frenchman living in England invented a tunnel shield, and an
American discovered the resourcefulness of using compressed air to prevent water from going into
tunnels that were being dug underground. As mining and tunneling progressed, the industrial need for
developing efficient tools and processes continued to grow as outdated processes continuously failed.
The Hoosac Tunnel was no exception, but because of the magnitude of the project it generated a lot of
interest which resulted in innovation and many experimental machines were created with a goal in
mind, to remove a section of the work in one application by slicing ...one or more concentric grooves
in the rock The inventions did not end here since the workers still lacked an efficient tool or machine
to help penetrate the rock with the least amount of effort as

Magnet Schools Research Paper
What is a Magnet School?
In contrast with charter and private schools, a magnet school is an exclusive part of the local public
school system. Normal public schools use geographic zones to determine where students will attend
school. This means that students attend the school that is closest to where they live. Magnet schools
operate outside of zoned school boundaries, but remain under the same administration and part of the
local public school system. The U.S. Department of Education provides financial assistance for these
schools through their Magnet Schools Assistance program.
http://www2.ed.gov/programs/magnet/index.html
What is the Purpose of Magnet Schools?
Magnet schools originally began as part of a mass effort to desegregate public schools. Today, they
serve the same mission by giving students opportunities to select schools that best fit their needs.
Ideally, these same students will enrich the school s demographic makeup by representing different
social and ethnic backgrounds. When it comes to the curriculum, almost all magnet schools use
special course loads to incentivize students from various neighborhoods to attend. The goal ... Show

To illustrate, both charter and magnet schools are technically public schools, but charter schools are
not required to follow the same state rules and regulations that public and magnet schools must follow.
Instead, charter schools are free to select which textbooks to use, which courses to teach and which
teachers to hire. That is, they are allowed to hire teachers who do not meet the state s minimum
licensing qualifications. Magnet and public schools are managed by the school district, but charter
schools are controlled by an internal board of directors. The admissions processes in magnet schools is
often quite rigorous and competitive, but charter schools use open enrollment admission and maintain

Abstract
When discussing fashion women often talk about the amazing dress they picked up or the sexy peep
toe heels that they just couldn t bare to pass by, however, very often does one think of the bra and its
impact on fashion history. A necessary evil in most women s lives the over the shoulder boulder holder
has been around since ancient times in some form or another. Before the invention of the brassiere
women were suffocating in corsets that resulted in crushed rib cages and damaged reproductive
organs. But in 1914, Mary Phelps Jacob changed all that by stitching together the very first bra. The
rest, they say, is history.

Greek women are often depicted draped in a garment that exposes one breast, however, in states such
as Sparta where women often participated in sports a band of cloth called an apodesmos or
mastodeton was worn to bind down the breasts (Wikipedia History, 2010). The Romans tended to de
emphasize the breasts more so than the Greek, often wearing loose tunics in which the women would
also wear an adopted version of the Greek apodesme called a mamillare (Wikipedia History, 2010). In
the Middle Ages, the Holy Empire banned any form of breast binding instead tight laced bodices were
worn. Moving into the Renaissance Era emphasis was now on form with décolletage becoming
fashionable. Women achieved this with garments consisting of paste stiffened linen and eventually
included iron supports at the side and back. Upper class women favored firm breasts and wet nurses
were often used to keep the breasts from changing form. It wasn t until 1789 that the first corset
appeared, contraptions made from whalebone to make women s waists appear smaller and to confine
their breasts. Corsets caused many health problems, ranging from deformed rib cages to damaged
reproductive organs (Berry, 2006). Although women understood the dangers of wearing corsets,
proper ladies had little choice but to wear one otherwise be labeled as scandalous! Think Scarlett O

Before Hitler s Military Background Before He Was Fuehrer
Hitler was the Fuhrer of Germany. So what was his life before he was Fuehrer? Hitler started out as a
regular everyday person, although later he was not. So what was his childhood like? Why was his
military background before he was Fuehrer? And finally, Why did he loathe and despise Jewish
people?
At the start, Adolf Hitler had a very bad, and influential childhood. Hitler was born in Braunau,
Austria Hungary in 1889. His father was a low level customs official, and wanted his son, Hitler, to
join him as a customs official, but Hitler instead, wished to be in Fine Arts, of which his father very
much disliked. Hitler s brother Edmund, passed away when Hitler was 11 in 1900. 3 short years later,
his father also died, in 1903. Consequently, 2 years later in 1905, Hitler s mother allowed him to drop
out of school to pursue the Fine Arts. After leaving school he, Spent the next three years wandering
around Linz attending the theater and spending time in the library . His mother, Klara Polzl, died 1907

The Effect Of Graffiti On The Berlin Wall
Graffiti is something that nearly every place in the world has to deal with. Graffiti can range from
anything, it can be something that could be considered a beautiful mural, a gang tag claiming territory
for a particular gang, or just a personal tag someone decides to leave behind. In order to fully
understand graffiti and the messages behind it, it is essential to know many facts involving graffiti. It
is integral to know the time period when graffiti first showed up, how the intent or meaning of graffiti
has changed, how graffiti is on a global scale, political messages behind graffiti, and finally how
vandalism and graffiti are treated as crimes. With all these facts in mind, anyone will be able to
comprehend graffiti on a deeper level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One very widely known example of this is the graffiti that used to be part of the Berlin Wall. The
western side was covered with graffiti, as people from West Germany wanted to express their ideas
about the wall. The graffiti on the Berlin Wall criticized and ridiculed the eastern German government.
When discussing the graffiti on the Berlin Wall, it is neither representative of gangs claiming territory
nor of a particular style that is striving to be considered art. The graffiti on the Berlin Wall is solely
representative of feelings that people wanted to convey in politics and in a very different world. In
such a complicated political matter, one of the ways citizens wanted to voice their opinions in politics
was through graffiti. In fact, according to an article discussing the impacts of the Berlin Wall, The
graffiti on the Berlin Wall has come to represent freedom of censorship, particularly from the East
German government, unity in a people torn apart by war, and the fall of the Iron Curtain that divided
Western Europe and the Soviet Eastern Europe. Through this medium artists have impacted world
politics and helped to rebuild a nation into the united, developed state that has an influential role in the
international community today (Graffiti on the Berlin Wall). This quote discusses the socio political
impact that the graffiti on the Berlin Wall had. With this in mind, it is easily understandable that
graffiti has the ability to influence or sway politics. In recent times, graffiti has had more and more of
an impact on politics, as it is something that allows any person to convey their political beliefs to a
population of people who otherwise would not have had a point of view of a particular ideology. This
is demonstrated by the graffiti that was on the Berlin Wall, which is why graffiti has a political
meaning in the modern

Essay On Wan Technologies
As the world progresses technology everyday, the reliance on the Internet and its uses become more
and more necessary. Many people connect to hundreds of applications and devices they use every
single day. Behind these applications are extremely complex networks that allow users to connect in
ways that expand every single day. To achieve this, companies must design their networks for secure
access and reliability to allow seamless access for users. On the back end these companies must also
have a secure network in place for their offices, remote workers, and any other remote resource to
access confidential materials and other sensitive matter. This can be accomplished through a variety of
WAN technologies that are used in the world today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With frame relay the user only has to pay for the local loop and the allotted bandwidth they purchased.
Since these loops are shared between many users the cost is reduced. Frame Relay provides a better
alternative because it only requires a single point of access. From that point of access the Frame Relay
allows the sites to connect together. On top of the overall cost, it is also much simpler to configure
which results in less overhead yet again. The connections were simpler to establish because Customer
Service Equipment or CPE would be configured and linked to the ISPs Frame relay switch. This
allowed end user configuration management to be simple and straightforward. Besides cost savings,
Frame relay is also more reliable and provides more bandwidth than private/leased lines. Frame relay
provides greater flexibility versus leased lines by using Virtual Circuits or VCs. As communication is
desired between locations, a connection to a Virtual Circuit is formed. In this process each end point
connection uses a Data Link Connection Identifier or DLCI which acts as an address for the end point.
Data sent through the relay is taken from the network layer of the OSI model and is then encapsulated
through the data portion of the frame relay frame. Once this is done, the frame is then sent to the
physical layer for delivery. Within the packet there will be an address field that includes the DLCI and
checksum to show where the packet needs to go. Another alternative to a

The Raven And The Scarlet Letter
A common theme in the American Renaissance is breaking free from the intellectual traditions of the
past. This is effectively expressed by Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne despite differences in
their writing style through the stories of The Raven and The Scarlet Letter respectively. Although their
writing style is different, both authors indicate that breaking free from intellectual traditions of the past
is present in their writing. Both Poe and Hawthorne want to know why things happen rather than how
things happen so they focus on how the mind works. As well as being gothic writers, they wanted to
determine whether guilt or sin has a psychological effect. In many of the stories by both authors a path
of consciousness is shown followed by the deterioration of a character s mind. As a result, characters
of Hawthorne and Poe are often deranged or they simply go mad. My finger, pointed at this man,
would have hurled him from his pulpit into a dungeon, thence, peradventure, to the gallows!
(Hawthorne 14). Chillingworth could have easily had his revenge by having Dimmesdale hanged or
thrown in prison. But instead he settles for psychological revenge that sends Dimmesdale into a guilt
ridden version of himself who punishes himself emotionally and mentally which ultimately leads to
his death. Frequently, Poe and Hawthorne show the struggles of human nature. Both believed that
human nature was less than good therefore evil was able to take hold of someone. Thrilled

information from the client. For example, What are your expectations? and Would you be satisfied
with your grades if your parents do not pressure you? I also used encouragers such as head nods and
repetition of key words stated by the client. I also summarized her story several times to clarify with
the client that I was hearing her correctly. I felt that she was motivated to elaborate (Ivey Ivey, 2007,
pg 231). I also used some observation skills such as observing the client s verbal and non verbal
behaviours, e.g. her voice tone, eye contact and the way she was sitting at certain point in the session.
While I listened to the tape, I realized that I had empathized and reflected on the client s feelings a few
times and this was done later in the interview. Not reflecting empathy earlier led the client to think that
I did not understand her situation. Also, I imposed my values on the client by telling her that eighty
percent is good even though she clearly stated that it is really bad for her. I thought this would have
made her feel better but it did not. If I were to meet this client again for the same issue I would reflect
empathy by saying the following: Getting good grades means a lot to you. I can see

The Economic State Of The United States
The United States today is a paradox, where corporations prosper despite the dire economic state of
the rest of the country (Reich, 519 520). This paradox continues to remain true, despite any individual
effort a person may make. As Robert Reich, a political economist and professor at Berkeley concludes,
this is because the workforce is shifting from the manufacturing industry to service jobs and mostly,
jobs that require college degrees(519 521). Presently in the U.S., one s competitive position in the
world economy is starting to depend one s function, and in this environment, the rich prosper (Reich,
519 520). In response to this situation, many now view a college degree as a key to success, and are
seeking out higher education. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Financial Aid programs in the form of loans, although helpful in paying for college, do little to shorten
the gap between high and low income students in higher education. The College Board, which is
responsible for the SAT, AP, and other acclaimed standardized exams, states that, about two thirds of
full time students pay for college with the help of financial aid, most of which is federally funded (
Federal State AP Exam Fee Assistance, 1) This is partly because college tuition and fees have surged
1,120 percent since 1978, causing the financial burden taken on by college applicants to become
almost overwhelming (Jamrisko, 1). For this reason, financial aid is seen by low income college
applicants as a necessary means to attending college. In theory, the use of financial aids should
encourage low income people to attend college and provide equal opportunity between high and low
class students, however, it has no such effect. According to a study done by the Pew Research Center,
which is known for researching trends in professional environments, college enrollment in the U.S.
among low income students is still 30% below that of high income students (Desilver, 1). As Tamy
Luhby, an economist and author for CNN Money says, high income students are still 8 times more
likely to graduate with a degree. Although financial aid temporarily covers the cost of college, it is
basically a system of debt accumulation due to fact that many low income students can only

Characteristics of My Virtual Child, Gavin
Introduction to Gavin My virtual child is a male, named Gavin (Manis, 2008). The name Gavin was
chosen because it is a personal favorite and it is also similar to my paternal grandmother s maiden
name, Gavaghan. Gavin has one virtual sibling, a younger sister named Chloe. There is a three year
age difference between the two siblings. According to the program I had a partner and we were
married. Unfortunately, when Gavin was four years old we continued to argue and decided to separate.
Two years later, we finally decided that the relationship was over and to get a divorce. Gavin s
personality is very closely related to the overcontrolled personality type (Manis, 2008). The
overcontrolled category states that the child is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gavin is also very sensitive with his surroundings, and lets his surroundings affect him greatly. This is
a weakness and is shown through different situations on his report cards and through observation.
When Gavin s younger sister was born he became very jealous and started to throw temper tantrums
and show regressive behavior (Manis, 2008). When my partner and I separated and eventually
divorced when Gavin was young he again started throwing temper tantrums and showed regressive
behavior. Also to support this on his first grade report card his teacher wrote Sometimes Gavin over
reacts to stressful situations and can become quite upset with himself or others and needs help calming
down (Manis, 2008). These are the main situations that led me to believe that he is a sensitive person,
which can also be seen as a weakness. Influences on Development Factors play a big role in everyone
s development; in Gavin s development the two biggest factors were genes and the divorce. Gavin s
genes could have influenced his shy behavior. Being shy could have kept him from experiencing
things that could have changed him in many ways. If Gavin had not been so shy then maybe his
language comprehension would not have been continuously below average because he would have
had more practice with the people around him other then his parents. The divorce may have also

Essay on Asian-American Stereotypes
Asian American Stereotypes
Overview
Asian stereotypes are a product of prevailing myths propagated by various media, from books, plays,
movies, television, to even historical propaganda. Generally speaking, the stereotyping of Asian
women often swing to extreme types: the docile, subservient sexual object, or the dragon lady. Asian
Americans only make up a small percentage of the United States population and live mostly on the
west and east coasts of mainland United States and Hawaii. Consequently, the rest of the American
population will most likely get their exposures to Asian Americans through television and movies.
Popular media exposure to Asian Americans lacks one on one acquaintance with Asian Americans. It

Implicitly, these films warn white women to embrace the socially constructed passive Asian beauty as
the feminine ideal if they want to attract and keep a man (Espiritu). What Hollywood may have failed
to portray about these Asian women is that they are prostitutes merely trying to support their families
by offering sexual services to men whom they see rich. Because they come from poor families and
lack education, some Asian women earn their living by these means, and preferring to sleep with a
man due to his skin color has nothing to do with it. Their financial situation takes precedence over the
act which they are partaking in.
The media is often the only form of culture that many Americans are subjected to. Consequently,
many stereotypes are formed from that medium. These stereotypes include the interfering Asian
American woman that cannot keep her nose out of other people?s business. The Asian woman is also
supposedly sexually active, exotic, overly feminine and eager to please. This character is termed the ?
China Doll,? and appears countless times in popular movies. Hollywood tends to characterize Asian
women as prostitutes, yet fails to portray the hardships these women face such as trying to support
their families. Asian American women are also depicted as passive and indecisive, and often times are
treated as though they want to have sex with white men, even when they are verbally not agreeing. ?

Essay on Police Brutality and the Use of Force
There are very few careers with as high demands for an ethical standard as law enforcement. Although
there are many careers, which require a dedication to doing the right thing, it is undeniable that there
is a tremendous degree of responsibility and expectations placed on the police officer. While most
professions allow for careful thought and planning, a police officer is often thrust into a situation with
little advanced intelligence about what is occurring. Often an officer is involved in a situation which
has the potential to turn violent. Relying on training allows the officer to successfully navigate a

The application of force is often considered ethically neutral it can, under a variety of circumstances,
constitute an abuse of authority. The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) defines the
use of force as that amount of effort required by police to compel compliance from an unwilling
subject (Police Use of Force in America 2001, n.d, p. 1). The IACP defines the use of excessive force
as the application of an amount and/or frequency of force greater than that required to compel
compliance from a willing or unwilling subject (Police Use of Force in America 2001, n.d, p. 1).
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (n.d.), in 2005 19% of U.S. residents 16 and over had
contact with a police officer. Of these contacts, 9 in 10 felt the police acted properly. During these
contacts with approximately 43.5 million persons, an estimated 1.6% had force used against them or
threatened to be used (Bureau of Justice Statistics, n.d.). A study by the International Association of
Chiefs of Police (as cited in Police Use of Force in America 2001, n.d.) shows that force was used 3.6
times for every 10,000 (police/citizen) encounters this suggests that force was not used in 99% of all
cases. Statistical data for excessive force is lacking as there is no standard measure in place. Given
these figures it is safe to suggest that

TheThe difficulty, however, about such an inquiry is that nearly all the available data are confined to
those concrete survivals like graves, sacred places and their contents, sculptures, bas reliefs,
engravings and paintings that have escaped the ravages of time. Their interpretation must be to some
extent conjectural, but much of the material has survived, little changed, in everyday occurrence
among the peoples who live today under conditions very similar to those of early humans. If employed
with proper caution such evidence can afford useful and illuminating clues to the purpose and
meaning of prehistoric religion. Short history of Prehistoric of Europe Prehistoric people lived on the

Irish American Drinking Habits in Literature and in...
Representations of Irish/Irish American Drinking Habits in Literature and in Popular Culture: A Self
Defeating Cycle
Introduction Stereotypes are not hard to come by in popular American culture, and truly in popular
cultures the world over. Human beings seem programmed to make quick and superficial judgments
about anyone who is or who simply appears to be different or other than oneself, equating race,
ethnicity, skin color, and/or country of origin with a set of specific attitudes, values, and behaviors that
are often insultingly oversimplified and incorrect. The United States has had more than its share of
struggles with accepting newcomers and dealing with minorities of all stripes, possibly due to the fact
that the nation has a rich history of immense immigration that has led to higher levels of multi ethnic
and multicultural interactions and social pressures than have existed in many other nations. Regardless
of the reasons behind the American propensity for stereotyping, the idea of Americans as bigots a
stereotype in and of itself is unfortunately at least partially earned by the country s history and popular
culture. The issues of slavery and civil rights for African Americans is well known racism in this
relationship still regularly rears its head in the media; only slightly less well known is the treatment of
Native Americans by the white conquerors of the continent and the current hot button topic of
immigration from Latin America. These problems have

A Serial Killer
Coco Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Fruit Loops are the names of different types of cereal. When
you hear the name Serial Killer you immediately think about cereal killing people, or at least that s
what I thought when I was younger. A Serial Killer is a person who continues to murder different but
innocent people for no apparent reason. Serial Killers usually kill during a long period of time as well.
Males are most likely to be known as one because it gives them a motivation by a variety of
psychological feelings, mostly power. These kinds of people most likely have had a rough childhood

Andrei s younger sister, Tatyana Chikatilo, set up the marriage because she took pity that he couldn t
get a girlfriend so she used her friend, Feodosia. Chikatilo did father a son, Yuri Chikatilo, and
daughter, Lyudmila Chikatilo, although he suffered impotence. Chikatilo suffered from chronic
impotence, making him socially awkward and self hating. He completed a degree in Russian
Literature in 1971. He also became a teacher in Novoshakhtinsk, Russia in January 1974. He taught
kindergarten and high school students. The high school students never respected him as a teacher so
he carried around a knife to school because he was scared of the students. Students called him Faggots
and Sissy because he was scared of him. The students that called him names were later molested in the
dormitories. He got fired from his job after the students told authorities that Andrei sexual assaulted
the students. He worked as a supply clerk and afterwards he went to mining school in Shakhty, near
Rostov. Andrei didn t spark at a young age in serial killing. Serial killers usually kill around the age of
20. Andrei Chikatilo has always been mad but he knew how to control it. It really sparked him at the
age of 42 when he had to find ways to get to and from work. He searched for his victims on bus depots
and railway stations. He usually overlooked the men/boys. The women/girls were his targets mainly
but if he felt offended by a man he would kidnap and kill

Star Appliance
Star Appliance Case Study
Situation:
Star Appliance is looking to expand their product line and is considering three different projects:
dishwashers, garbage disposals, and trash compactors. We want to determine which project would be
worth doing by determining if they will add value to Star. Thus, the project(s) that will add the most
value to Star Appliance will be worth pursuing. The current hurdle rate of 10% should be re evaluated
by finding the weighted average cost of capital (WACC). Then by forecasting the cash flows of each
project and discounting them by the WACC to find the net present value, or by solving for the internal
rate of return, we should be able to see which projects Star should undertake.
Conclusion:
Which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Star s returns were found by multiplying the EPS times the P/E ratio to get the year s stock price. I
then found the change in the price each year, which is the capital gain yield (CGY). Adding this, the
CGY, to the dividend yield (also listed in exhibit 6) gave Star s returns. The results of the regression
were a best fit line with a slope of 0.831, which equals beta. Using exhibit 5, I averaged the 10 and 20
year T bill rates to get Rf for 15 years of 10.7%. I used the given 6.0% percent as the market premium.
Putting all of these values into the CAPM equation gave a return on equity of 15.69%. Optimal
Capital Structure
WACC = (D/D+E)(Rd)(1 t) + (E/D+E)(Re) Even though Star originally has a debt free capital
structure, there is an optimal capital structure that includes debt, which is usually a cheaper source of
financing. To find the weighted average cost of capital, I first calculated the cost of debt using the
spread between bond debt ratings (what was the spread?). I added the spread to the risk free rate of
10.7% used earlier as Rd , then multiplied this value by (1 tax rate) to find the cost of debt. Next, I had
to find a beta for the levered Star by using the equation BL=BU(1+(1 t)(D/E)). I determined the
debt/equity ratio by solving (D/D+E) =((D/D+E) 1)^ 1. Now I used the CAPM again to solve for Re
of the levered firm for different proportions of debt. Finally, the WACC was found by multiplying the

Break Of Day In The Trenches By Isaac Rosenberg
Break of Day in the Trenches is by one of the First World War s leading war poets, Isaac Rosenberg.
Many often remember Rosenberg as a Jewish English poet, or a poet of war, but there is more to his
writing than what meets the eye. Rosenberg died at the age of twenty eight in World War I on April 1,
1918. Critics often say that Isaac was an impressive young poet and that his future was bright in the
poetry world. It can be seen throughout his poems that Isaac incorporates a large amount of
symbolism and feeling into his pieces.
A primary focus for Rosenberg s poems is centered around the hardship and struggle in war. For
example, a few of his most famous poems including Dead Man s Dump, On Receiving News of the
War, Soldier: Twentieth Century and Break of Day in the Trenches all incorporate the mentality of a
soldier facing battle. It is easy for an individual to talk about the thought of war and the struggle that a
soldier may face. Furthermore, Rosenberg wrote from his experience as a young man going through
such a horrific event, which allowed his readers to see what he saw, feel what he felt, and undergo
what he went through. He mastered this art form in the early years of his life and shared his work with
the world. In many cases, he describes an object or occurrence and lets the description do most of the
work. Instead of using the rhyming schemes or more structural outlines of poetry, Isaac approaches
more of a free verse technique of writing in in his work. For example, in Break of Day in the
Trenches,
The darkness crumbles away.
It is the same old druid Time as ever,
Only a live thing leaps my hand,
A queer sardonic rat,
As I pull the parapet s poppy
To stick behind my ear.
Droll rat, they would shoot you if they knew Your cosmopolitan sympathies. (Rosenberg, Isaac. Break
of Day in the Trenches. Poetry Foundation. Poetry Foundation, n.d. Web. 24 May 2017.) The
introduction portion of this poem foreshadows a theme for the reader such that Rosenberg does not
use an ABC format, instead he employs a descriptive structure technique. In this particular poem the
rat that will cross No Man s Land and make friends with the enemy, the Germans. According to

Benefits Of Cooperative Learning For Student Engagement
Moreover, despite all those well documented benefits of cooperative learning, many teachers still do
not prefer to use this pedagogical practice in class, stated by Baines, Blatchford, and Kutnik (2003).
The fact is that the cooperative learning requires teachers to have high awareness of students learning,
good control of students challenging behaviors.
Based on the knowledge on cooperative learning, the approach of group work is introduced in the
following paragraphs as the chosen pedagogical approach for language teaching practice in stage 4.
Group work is an instructional strategy that allows teachers to address both intellectual and social
learning goals (Cohen, 1994; Galton, Hargreaves, Pell, 2009). The approach will be analyzed from
two aspects, one is the impact on students social and attitudinal improvements, and the other aspect is
on the academic gains.
Generally, Stage 4 is known as the transition stage. As emphasized in the Melbourne Declaration, the
effective transitions between primary and secondary schools are an important aspect of ensuring
student engagement (2008, p. 12). Student motivation and engagement in these years is critical, and
can be influenced by tailoring approaches to teaching, with learning activities and learning
environments that specifically consider the needs of middle year s students.
As required by the K 10 language syllabus (2003) for language learning in Stage 4, the learning ought
to promote a fair and just society that values

Health Care Services And Health Services
All citizens in such countries are entitled to receive health care services that include routine and basic
health care. Access to health care is very difficult to a lot of people in the United States. Access to
health services means the timely use of personal health services to achieve the best health outcomes.
With access to health services a person can find a health care provider that he or she can trust, have
access to a health care location where services are provided. Every person in the United State should
have access to health care; no one should be without it. Health care helps with prevention of disease
and disability, physical and mental health status, detect and if possible treatment of health conditions,
and overall improves the quality of life. I would like to work in the health care where I am able to help
inform people on the access of health that is available to them. A lot of people, especially the poor
have no knowledge of what access they have for health care.
Differences in access to health services affect individuals and society. Limited access to health care
impacts people s ability to reach their full potential, negatively affecting their quality of life. With this,
people without health care with run across hurdles that including lack of availability, high cost of
service and lack of insurance coverage. I learned that the lack of suitable coverage makes it difficult
for people to get the health care they need and, when they do get care, burdens

Erikson s Stages Of Development
Adolescent Development The age of adolescents is generally a time of great change within a person s
life. Between the ages of twelve and eighteen, adolescents do not only experience rapid physical
change, but also begin to find their own unique personality by completing cognitive, behavioral, moral
and social stages. These stages were defined by different theorists such as Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget
and Lawrence Kohlberg. After completing these stages an adolescent should be able to develop into a
healthy and happy adult who can think abstractly and has their own set of morals and identity (Berk,
2014, pg. 402).

407). Kohlberg s levels of morality are separated into three main stages. Children are most often in the
first stage, the preconventional level, At this level individuals reason through their morals based upon
consequences that will come after. The conventional level describes how individuals at this stage
conform to agreed upon morals and rules to keep the order rather than avoiding punishment. The last
and most advanced stage is the postconventional stage which entails individuals who move beyond
agreed upon rules and morals and actually question established beliefs and principles (Berk, 2014, p.g.
408). As for Ronald, his moral level changes throughout the film. In the beginning when trying to gain
popularity he is in the conventional level because he hopes to solve his dilemma of wanting to gain
popularity by keeping everything in his school s culture and principles intact. When Ronald was trying
to keep his deal with Cindy a secret and also fit in, he was perpetuating the current social system.
When Ronald finally had his realization that cliques are not important and all that really mattered was
who you are he tore down social barriers and laws and began to apply his new and abstract morals to

However, Gatsby s goal of being accepted was to be accepted by Daisy while Myrtle s was purely for

Elizabeth Camden managed to inflict universal ideas of right of free will, loving at all times and an
individual vs. society. Both Trevor and Kate shared deep feelings for eachother. When Kate found
Trevor s devastating health documents, Trevor did not try to deny their facts. Instead, Trevor assured
that they were true. He let Kate know that his life truly could be on the line any day. Nonetheless,
Trevor promised Kate that if she would take her leap of faith in their love, then he would love her with
every breath he was given. Trevor granted Kate her right to free will. He let her decide if she would be
willing to take her risk on him by trusting God s unseen plan in their life together. I m not a good long
term bet, but I care for you He leaned forward giving her time to pull away if she chose. Whatever
Kate decided in this moment would change the course of his whole life. Before Kate made any
decision, Trevor was attempting to embed into her mind that true love isn t the love that is shared in
the good times, it s the love that s kept through the valleys and mountains of life. I love you, but you
don t know the meaning of the word. You only love when it is easy, when there are no storm clouds in
the horizon. (Camden 238) Throughout the story, Trevor has someone criticizing and threatening him
for his mistakes that he s made while treating his patients. The threats are found in newspapers and
magazines that are sold to the public. Therefore, Trevor is looked down upon in the community
surrounding him. Trevor does not back down and give up. Instead he stands up to fight the

The Issue Of Income Inequality Essay
Income inequality has slowly become an issue gaining momentum over the last thirty five years, did
we see it coming, I think so. It has always been an issues, only after decades of misleading political
leadership spanning decades are people finally fed up of being misled and lied to. The current election
for the next president has brought about a voice of the American people to demand a change within
our three failing political systems that govern America. Only this change, I believe is going to bring a
country to its knees, the wealth holders are not, going to just step aside and willing unlock the scales
of wealth that to encumber its poor, they are going to dig in and hold fast to what they have stolen and
hoarded since the time of slavery. Broken at the foundation Congress failed in its obligation to keep a
close watch on the small increasing hikes in taxation, that repeatedly brought sanctions on the poor,
that created a false redistribution of wealth in America, for the last three decades income disparity has
reach an all time high for selective groups of Americans. The government influenced income
inequality and growth by shifting support to ambiguous government supported programs, that
benefitted a selective groups of Americans by lessening their taxation rate, while snowballing the tax
imposed on the poorest Americans. The riches 1 10% have accumulated an increase in wealth
approximately 7.5 times over the normal working household in the US. The article

Rent To Own Essay
Before my dad began working at RNR Tire Express I did not know very much about rent to own. I
understood that it meant you rent something until you own it just by drawing conclusions. I think it is
easy to find the benefit of rent to own in America especially in tough economic times. Nowadays it is
uncommon for people to be able to pay for large, yet necessary items in one full payment. For
example, new tires can be very expensive, but they are necessary in order to drive safely. Old, worn
tires are a safety issue and could cause more damage to your car if they aren t replaced. I think many
Americans dread having to get new tires because it often times means spending money that they do
not have. I think there are many Americans that would have to choose between new tires or paying
another bill if they had to pay for their tires in full, upfront. Rent to own makes it possible for
someone to buy a new set of needed tires without breaking the bank by allowing them to make
payments. Another benefit to making payments is that usually the buyer can choose the best time for
them to make their payments such as weekly, biweekly, or monthly. ... Show more content on

Auto Industry in Canada
To fully understand why Canada is one the wealthiest nations in the world, we need to pay particular
attention to Canada s economic history. The economic history of our country has been marked by
many important events that have paved the way for a successful economic future. A brief economic
history of Canada would pay particular attention to important events such as the economic boom of
the 1920s, the dark times of the 1930s; the Second World War during the 1940s and to also not forget
the important trade agreements such as the auto pact and the NAFTA. Despite the above mentioned

The increase in employment contributed to an increase in the lifestyles of Canadians. Also government
revenues increased with the expansion of the automobile industry. They had to find a way to maintain
the roads therefore licensing and gas fees were introduced. The automakers did not only increase the
lifestyle of the people in the southern provinces but they had a big impact on the western provinces
also. Agriculture was one of the many industrial sectors that benefited from the automakers. With cars
being built it was now easier for the farmers to sell their products in the market. They now had a more
comfortable way to travel and this made their jobs easier. Also the introduction of the farm tractors
was a big help in the agriculture industry. The farm tractors increased crop quantities and livestock
volume. The tractor was a great invention as it was more efficient and less time consuming.
One of the negative impacts of the automobile industry in Canada is that of the regional economic
imbalances between the provinces. With the manufacturing being heavily concentrated in Ontario, the
other provinces of Canada do not get the same economic output as Ontario does. Ontario is considered
by far the wealthiest province. The province generates almost 50 percent of Canada s GDP which
translates into a staggering 675 billion dollars. Many

Comparing T-Mobile, Axe And Nike
Different companies have their own unique ways in advertising their products through TV
commercials, billboards, print ads and such. These marketing styles are commonly called as

advertisers use unrealistic propaganda about certain products, it has become effective in attracting
consumers to buy their products. Bandwagon is one technique used to convince people to join the

  • 3. Railroad Tunnel Research Paper Through the black train exhaust smoke pouring out of a large hole at the bottom of the Hoosac Mountain Range, the date of 1877 slowly appears at the top of the East Portal facade of the Hoosac Tunnel. The hard work and determination of engineers and workers resulted in the creation of an American symbol for technological advancement in tunneling. The railroad tunnel passes through the towns of North Adams and Florida, Massachusetts, stretching 4.75 miles. The construction began in 1854 but after suffering many setbacks, the tunnel was finished and finally approved for train service in 1875. Throughout the twenty five years, technology drastically improved from the very beginning to the end as engineers discovered more efficient ways to dig into the unpredictable mountain rock. This progression greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The technological progression is astounding since the tools, resources, and knowledge of mountain ground varied. In the early history of mining, it was first thoroughly developed in the Middle Ages within the states of Germany, then a Frenchman living in England invented a tunnel shield, and an American discovered the resourcefulness of using compressed air to prevent water from going into tunnels that were being dug underground. As mining and tunneling progressed, the industrial need for developing efficient tools and processes continued to grow as outdated processes continuously failed. The Hoosac Tunnel was no exception, but because of the magnitude of the project it generated a lot of interest which resulted in innovation and many experimental machines were created with a goal in mind, to remove a section of the work in one application by slicing ...one or more concentric grooves in the rock The inventions did not end here since the workers still lacked an efficient tool or machine to help penetrate the rock with the least amount of effort as ... • 4. Magnet Schools Research Paper What is a Magnet School? In contrast with charter and private schools, a magnet school is an exclusive part of the local public school system. Normal public schools use geographic zones to determine where students will attend school. This means that students attend the school that is closest to where they live. Magnet schools operate outside of zoned school boundaries, but remain under the same administration and part of the local public school system. The U.S. Department of Education provides financial assistance for these schools through their Magnet Schools Assistance program. http://www2.ed.gov/programs/magnet/index.html What is the Purpose of Magnet Schools? Magnet schools originally began as part of a mass effort to desegregate public schools. Today, they serve the same mission by giving students opportunities to select schools that best fit their needs. Ideally, these same students will enrich the school s demographic makeup by representing different social and ethnic backgrounds. When it comes to the curriculum, almost all magnet schools use special course loads to incentivize students from various neighborhoods to attend. The goal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To illustrate, both charter and magnet schools are technically public schools, but charter schools are not required to follow the same state rules and regulations that public and magnet schools must follow. Instead, charter schools are free to select which textbooks to use, which courses to teach and which teachers to hire. That is, they are allowed to hire teachers who do not meet the state s minimum licensing qualifications. Magnet and public schools are managed by the school district, but charter schools are controlled by an internal board of directors. • 5. History of the Bra History of the Bra Shanna Averre ENG 215 Professor G Fellers Spring 2010 Abstract When discussing fashion women often talk about the amazing dress they picked up or the sexy peep toe heels that they just couldn t bare to pass by, however, very often does one think of the bra and its impact on fashion history. A necessary evil in most women s lives the over the shoulder boulder holder has been around since ancient times in some form or another. Before the invention of the brassiere women were suffocating in corsets that resulted in crushed rib cages and damaged reproductive organs. But in 1914, Mary Phelps Jacob changed all that by stitching together the very first bra. The rest, they say, is history. History of the Bra ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greek women are often depicted draped in a garment that exposes one breast, however, in states such as Sparta where women often participated in sports a band of cloth called an apodesmos or mastodeton was worn to bind down the breasts (Wikipedia History, 2010). The Romans tended to de emphasize the breasts more so than the Greek, often wearing loose tunics in which the women would also wear an adopted version of the Greek apodesme called a mamillare (Wikipedia History, 2010). In the Middle Ages, the Holy Empire banned any form of breast binding instead tight laced bodices were worn. Moving into the Renaissance Era emphasis was now on form with décolletage becoming fashionable. Women achieved this with garments consisting of paste stiffened linen and eventually included iron supports at the side and back. Upper class women favored firm breasts and wet nurses were often used to keep the breasts from changing form. It wasn t until 1789 that the first corset appeared, contraptions made from whalebone to make women s waists appear smaller and to confine their breasts. Corsets caused many health problems, ranging from deformed rib cages to damaged reproductive organs (Berry, 2006). Although women understood the dangers of wearing corsets, proper ladies had little choice but to wear one otherwise be labeled as scandalous! Think Scarlett O Hara in Gone with the Wind as she clings to a bedpost while her maid tightens her up or the scene in Pirates of the Caribbean ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hitler started out as a regular everyday person, although later he was not. So what was his childhood like? Why was his military background before he was Fuehrer? And finally, Why did he loathe and despise Jewish people? At the start, Adolf Hitler had a very bad, and influential childhood. Hitler was born in Braunau, Austria Hungary in 1889. His father was a low level customs official, and wanted his son, Hitler, to join him as a customs official, but Hitler instead, wished to be in Fine Arts, of which his father very much disliked. • 7. The Effect Of Graffiti On The Berlin Wall Graffiti is something that nearly every place in the world has to deal with. Graffiti can range from anything, it can be something that could be considered a beautiful mural, a gang tag claiming territory for a particular gang, or just a personal tag someone decides to leave behind. In order to fully understand graffiti and the messages behind it, it is essential to know many facts involving graffiti. It is integral to know the time period when graffiti first showed up, how the intent or meaning of graffiti has changed, how graffiti is on a global scale, political messages behind graffiti, and finally how vandalism and graffiti are treated as crimes. With all these facts in mind, anyone will be able to comprehend graffiti on a deeper level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One very widely known example of this is the graffiti that used to be part of the Berlin Wall. The western side was covered with graffiti, as people from West Germany wanted to express their ideas about the wall. The graffiti on the Berlin Wall criticized and ridiculed the eastern German government. When discussing the graffiti on the Berlin Wall, it is neither representative of gangs claiming territory nor of a particular style that is striving to be considered art. The graffiti on the Berlin Wall is solely representative of feelings that people wanted to convey in politics and in a very different world. In such a complicated political matter, one of the ways citizens wanted to voice their opinions in politics was through graffiti. In fact, according to an article discussing the impacts of the Berlin Wall, The graffiti on the Berlin Wall has come to represent freedom of censorship, particularly from the East German government, unity in a people torn apart by war, and the fall of the Iron Curtain that divided Western Europe and the Soviet Eastern Europe. Through this medium artists have impacted world politics and helped to rebuild a nation into the united, developed state that has an influential role in the international community today (Graffiti on the Berlin Wall). This quote discusses the socio political impact that the graffiti on the Berlin Wall had. With this in mind, it is easily understandable that graffiti has the ability to influence or sway politics. In recent times, graffiti has had more and more of an impact on politics, as it is something that allows any person to convey their political beliefs to a population of people who otherwise would not have had a point of view of a particular ideology. This is demonstrated by the graffiti that was on the Berlin Wall, which is why graffiti has a political meaning in the modern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay On Wan Technologies As the world progresses technology everyday, the reliance on the Internet and its uses become more and more necessary. Many people connect to hundreds of applications and devices they use every single day. Behind these applications are extremely complex networks that allow users to connect in ways that expand every single day. To achieve this, companies must design their networks for secure access and reliability to allow seamless access for users. On the back end these companies must also have a secure network in place for their offices, remote workers, and any other remote resource to access confidential materials and other sensitive matter. This can be accomplished through a variety of WAN technologies that are used in the world today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With frame relay the user only has to pay for the local loop and the allotted bandwidth they purchased. Since these loops are shared between many users the cost is reduced. Frame Relay provides a better alternative because it only requires a single point of access. From that point of access the Frame Relay allows the sites to connect together. On top of the overall cost, it is also much simpler to configure which results in less overhead yet again. The connections were simpler to establish because Customer Service Equipment or CPE would be configured and linked to the ISPs Frame relay switch. This allowed end user configuration management to be simple and straightforward. Besides cost savings, Frame relay is also more reliable and provides more bandwidth than private/leased lines. Frame relay provides greater flexibility versus leased lines by using Virtual Circuits or VCs. As communication is desired between locations, a connection to a Virtual Circuit is formed. In this process each end point connection uses a Data Link Connection Identifier or DLCI which acts as an address for the end point. Data sent through the relay is taken from the network layer of the OSI model and is then encapsulated through the data portion of the frame relay frame. Once this is done, the frame is then sent to the physical layer for delivery. Within the packet there will be an address field that includes the DLCI and checksum to show where the packet needs to go. Another alternative to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Raven And The Scarlet Letter A common theme in the American Renaissance is breaking free from the intellectual traditions of the past. This is effectively expressed by Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne despite differences in their writing style through the stories of The Raven and The Scarlet Letter respectively. Although their writing style is different, both authors indicate that breaking free from intellectual traditions of the past is present in their writing. Both Poe and Hawthorne want to know why things happen rather than how things happen so they focus on how the mind works. As well as being gothic writers, they wanted to determine whether guilt or sin has a psychological effect. In many of the stories by both authors a path of consciousness is shown followed by the deterioration of a character s mind. As a result, characters of Hawthorne and Poe are often deranged or they simply go mad. My finger, pointed at this man, would have hurled him from his pulpit into a dungeon, thence, peradventure, to the gallows! (Hawthorne 14). Chillingworth could have easily had his revenge by having Dimmesdale hanged or thrown in prison. But instead he settles for psychological revenge that sends Dimmesdale into a guilt ridden version of himself who punishes himself emotionally and mentally which ultimately leads to his death. Frequently, Poe and Hawthorne show the struggles of human nature. Both believed that human nature was less than good therefore evil was able to take hold of someone. Thrilled ... The setting was not very ideal, since there were two additional members and the room was available for a limited time. I used open ended and closed questions to gather more in depth information from the client. For example, What are your expectations? and Would you be satisfied with your grades if your parents do not pressure you? I also used encouragers such as head nods and repetition of key words stated by the client. I also summarized her story several times to clarify with the client that I was hearing her correctly. I felt that she was motivated to elaborate (Ivey Ivey, 2007, pg 231). I also used some observation skills such as observing the client s verbal and non verbal behaviours, e.g. her voice tone, eye contact and the way she was sitting at certain point in the session. While I listened to the tape, I realized that I had empathized and reflected on the client s feelings a few times and this was done later in the interview. Not reflecting empathy earlier led the client to think that I did not understand her situation. Also, I imposed my values on the client by telling her that eighty percent is good even though she clearly stated that it is really bad for her. I thought this would have made her feel better but it did not. • 13. The Economic State Of The United States The United States today is a paradox, where corporations prosper despite the dire economic state of the rest of the country (Reich, 519 520). This paradox continues to remain true, despite any individual effort a person may make. As Robert Reich, a political economist and professor at Berkeley concludes, this is because the workforce is shifting from the manufacturing industry to service jobs and mostly, jobs that require college degrees(519 521). Presently in the U.S., one s competitive position in the world economy is starting to depend one s function, and in this environment, the rich prosper (Reich, 519 520). In response to this situation, many now view a college degree as a key to success, and are seeking out higher education. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Financial Aid programs in the form of loans, although helpful in paying for college, do little to shorten the gap between high and low income students in higher education. The College Board, which is responsible for the SAT, AP, and other acclaimed standardized exams, states that, about two thirds of full time students pay for college with the help of financial aid, most of which is federally funded ( Federal State AP Exam Fee Assistance, 1) This is partly because college tuition and fees have surged 1,120 percent since 1978, causing the financial burden taken on by college applicants to become almost overwhelming (Jamrisko, 1). For this reason, financial aid is seen by low income college applicants as a necessary means to attending college. In theory, the use of financial aids should encourage low income people to attend college and provide equal opportunity between high and low class students, however, it has no such effect. According to a study done by the Pew Research Center, which is known for researching trends in professional environments, college enrollment in the U.S. among low income students is still 30% below that of high income students (Desilver, 1). As Tamy Luhby, an economist and author for CNN Money says, high income students are still 8 times more likely to graduate with a degree. Although financial aid temporarily covers the cost of college, it is basically a system of debt accumulation due to fact that many low income students can only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The name Gavin was chosen because it is a personal favorite and it is also similar to my paternal grandmother s maiden name, Gavaghan. Gavin has one virtual sibling, a younger sister named Chloe. There is a three year age difference between the two siblings. According to the program I had a partner and we were married. Unfortunately, when Gavin was four years old we continued to argue and decided to separate. Two years later, we finally decided that the relationship was over and to get a divorce. Gavin is also very sensitive with his surroundings, and lets his surroundings affect him greatly. This is a weakness and is shown through different situations on his report cards and through observation. When Gavin s younger sister was born he became very jealous and started to throw temper tantrums and show regressive behavior (Manis, 2008). When my partner and I separated and eventually divorced when Gavin was young he again started throwing temper tantrums and showed regressive behavior. Also to support this on his first grade report card his teacher wrote Sometimes Gavin over reacts to stressful situations and can become quite upset with himself or others and needs help calming down (Manis, 2008). • 15. Essay on Asian-American Stereotypes Asian American Stereotypes Overview Asian stereotypes are a product of prevailing myths propagated by various media, from books, plays, movies, television, to even historical propaganda. Generally speaking, the stereotyping of Asian women often swing to extreme types: the docile, subservient sexual object, or the dragon lady. Asian Americans only make up a small percentage of the United States population and live mostly on the west and east coasts of mainland United States and Hawaii. Consequently, the rest of the American population will most likely get their exposures to Asian Americans through television and movies. Implicitly, these films warn white women to embrace the socially constructed passive Asian beauty as the feminine ideal if they want to attract and keep a man (Espiritu). What Hollywood may have failed to portray about these Asian women is that they are prostitutes merely trying to support their families by offering sexual services to men whom they see rich. Because they come from poor families and lack education, some Asian women earn their living by these means, and preferring to sleep with a man due to his skin color has nothing to do with it. Their financial situation takes precedence over the act which they are partaking in. The media is often the only form of culture that many Americans are subjected to. Consequently, many stereotypes are formed from that medium. These stereotypes include the interfering Asian American woman that cannot keep her nose out of other people?s business. The Asian woman is also supposedly sexually active, exotic, overly feminine and eager to please. This character is termed the ? China Doll,? and appears countless times in popular movies. Hollywood tends to characterize Asian women as prostitutes, yet fails to portray the hardships these women face such as trying to support their families. Asian American women are also depicted as passive and indecisive, and often times are treated as though they want to have sex with white men, even when they are verbally not agreeing. ? Representations of Irish/Irish American Drinking Habits in Literature and in Popular Culture: A Self Defeating Cycle Introduction Stereotypes are not hard to come by in popular American culture, and truly in popular cultures the world over. Human beings seem programmed to make quick and superficial judgments about anyone who is or who simply appears to be different or other than oneself, equating race, ethnicity, skin color, and/or country of origin with a set of specific attitudes, values, and behaviors that are often insultingly oversimplified and incorrect. The United States has had more than its share of struggles with accepting newcomers and dealing with minorities of all stripes, possibly due to the fact that the nation has a rich history of immense immigration that has led to higher levels of multi ethnic and multicultural interactions and social pressures than have existed in many other nations. Regardless of the reasons behind the American propensity for stereotyping, the idea of Americans as bigots a stereotype in and of itself is unfortunately at least partially earned by the country s history and popular culture. I then found the change in the price each year, which is the capital gain yield (CGY). Adding this, the CGY, to the dividend yield (also listed in exhibit 6) gave Star s returns. The results of the regression were a best fit line with a slope of 0.831, which equals beta. Using exhibit 5, I averaged the 10 and 20 year T bill rates to get Rf for 15 years of 10.7%. I used the given 6.0% percent as the market premium. Putting all of these values into the CAPM equation gave a return on equity of 15.69%. Optimal Capital Structure WACC = (D/D+E)(Rd)(1 t) + (E/D+E)(Re) Even though Star originally has a debt free capital structure, there is an optimal capital structure that includes debt, which is usually a cheaper source of financing. To find the weighted average cost of capital, I first calculated the cost of debt using the spread between bond debt ratings (what was the spread?). I added the spread to the risk free rate of 10.7% used earlier as Rd , then multiplied this value by (1 tax rate) to find the cost of debt. Next, I had to find a beta for the levered Star by using the equation BL=BU(1+(1 t)(D/E)). I determined the debt/equity ratio by solving (D/D+E) =((D/D+E) 1)^ 1. • 23. Break Of Day In The Trenches By Isaac Rosenberg Break of Day in the Trenches is by one of the First World War s leading war poets, Isaac Rosenberg. Many often remember Rosenberg as a Jewish English poet, or a poet of war, but there is more to his writing than what meets the eye. Rosenberg died at the age of twenty eight in World War I on April 1, 1918. Critics often say that Isaac was an impressive young poet and that his future was bright in the poetry world. It can be seen throughout his poems that Isaac incorporates a large amount of symbolism and feeling into his pieces. A primary focus for Rosenberg s poems is centered around the hardship and struggle in war. For example, a few of his most famous poems including Dead Man s Dump, On Receiving News of the War, Soldier: Twentieth Century and Break of Day in the Trenches all incorporate the mentality of a soldier facing battle. It is easy for an individual to talk about the thought of war and the struggle that a soldier may face. Furthermore, Rosenberg wrote from his experience as a young man going through such a horrific event, which allowed his readers to see what he saw, feel what he felt, and undergo what he went through. He mastered this art form in the early years of his life and shared his work with the world. In many cases, he describes an object or occurrence and lets the description do most of the work. Instead of using the rhyming schemes or more structural outlines of poetry, Isaac approaches more of a free verse technique of writing in in his work. For example, in Break of Day in the Trenches, The darkness crumbles away. It is the same old druid Time as ever, Only a live thing leaps my hand, A queer sardonic rat, As I pull the parapet s poppy To stick behind my ear. Droll rat, they would shoot you if they knew Your cosmopolitan sympathies. (Rosenberg, Isaac. Break of Day in the Trenches. Poetry Foundation. Poetry Foundation, n.d. Web. 24 May 2017.) The introduction portion of this poem foreshadows a theme for the reader such that Rosenberg does not use an ABC format, instead he employs a descriptive structure technique. The fact is that the cooperative learning requires teachers to have high awareness of students learning, good control of students challenging behaviors. Based on the knowledge on cooperative learning, the approach of group work is introduced in the following paragraphs as the chosen pedagogical approach for language teaching practice in stage 4. Group work is an instructional strategy that allows teachers to address both intellectual and social learning goals (Cohen, 1994; Galton, Hargreaves, Pell, 2009). The approach will be analyzed from two aspects, one is the impact on students social and attitudinal improvements, and the other aspect is on the academic gains. Generally, Stage 4 is known as the transition stage. As emphasized in the Melbourne Declaration, the effective transitions between primary and secondary schools are an important aspect of ensuring student engagement (2008, p. 12). Student motivation and engagement in these years is critical, and can be influenced by tailoring approaches to teaching, with learning activities and learning environments that specifically consider the needs of middle year s students.
