Finite Element Analysis of Single Point Cutting ToolIJMER
In this project, temperature at tool-tip interface is determined, generated in high-speed machining operations. Specifically, three different analyses are comparing to an experimental measurement of temperature in a machining process at slow speed, medium speed and at high speed. In addition, three analyses are done of a High Speed Steel and of a Carbide Tip Tool machining process at three different cutting speeds, in order to compare to experimental results produced as part of this study. An investigation of heat generation in cutting tool is performed by varying cutting parameters at the suitable cutting tool geometry. The experimental results reveal that the main factors responsible for increasing cutting temperature are cutting speed (v), feed rate (f), and depth of cut (d), respectively. It is also determined that change in cutting speed and depth of cut has the maximum effect on increasing cutting temperature. Various researches have been undertaken in measuring the temperatures generated during cutting operations. Investigators made attempt to measure these cutting temperatures with various techniques during machining.
In this project, “Fluke 62 max IR thermometer” (Range -40 0C to 650 0C) is used for measuring temperature at tool-tip interface. Single point cutting tool has been solid modeled by using CAD Modeler Pro/E and FEA carried out by using ANSYS Workbench 14.5. Experimental work is done at “Khushi Engineering”, Nagpur.
By varying various parameters the effect of those on temperature are compared with the experimental results and FEA results. After comparison nearly 4% variation is found in between the results.

Tool wear prediction plays a significant role in machining industry for proper planning and control machining parameters and optimization of cutting conditions. This paper aims to investigate the effect of tool path strategies that are contour-in and zigzag tool path strategies applied on tool wear during pocket milling process. The experiments were carried out on CNC vertical machining centre by involving PVD coated carbide inserts. Cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut were set to vary. In an experiment with three factors at three levels, Response Surface Method (RSM) design of experiment with a standard called Central Composite Design (CCD) was employed. Results obtained indicate that tool wear increases significantly at higher range of feed per tooth compared to cutting speed and depth of cut. This result of this experimental work is then proven statistically by developing empirical model. The prediction model for the response variable of tool wear for contour-in strategy developed in this research shows a good agreement with experimental work.

The growth of Indian manufacturing sector depends largely on its productivity & quality. Productivity depends upon many factors, one of the major factors being manufacturing efficiency with which the operation /activities are carried out in the organization. Productivity can be improved by reducing the total machining time, combining the operations etc. In case of mass production where variety of jobs is less and quantity to be produced is huge, it is very essential to produce the job at a faster rate. This is not possible if we carry out the production by using general purpose machines. The best way to improve the production rate (productivity) along with quality is by use of special purpose machine. Usefulness and performance of the existing radial drilling machine will be increased by designing and development of multispindle drilling head attachment. This paper deals with such development undertaken for similar job under consideration along with industrial case study. Experimental Investigation of Machining Parameters for Aluminum 6061 T6 Alloyijtsrd
In the present work, Turning Parameters were optimized using Taguchi Method. Also, the effect of turning parameters such as rotational speed, feed rate, depth of cut and material removal rate on surface roughness of Aluminum 6061 T6 alloy was investigated. L9 Taguchi’s method was used for designing the experiments and optimization of turning parameters. Nine experiments were conducted with four factors having three levels for each factor. Results revealed that spindle speed has a significant effect on surface roughness and it is the most dominating factor affecting the surface roughness with contribution of 52.38 . The optimal parameter combination of Aluminum 6061 T6 alloy bar for minimum surface roughness is found to be A2 B1 C2 D i.e., rotational spindle speed A at 900 rpm, feed rate B at 90 mm min and depth of cut C at 0.8 mm, and material removal rate D . Effectiveness of multilayer coated tool in turning of aisi 430 f steeleSAT Journals
Abstract This paper presents minimization of surface roughness in dry turning of AISI 430F steel using TiN-TiCN-Al2O3-ZrCN multilayer coated cemented carbide & cryo-treated inserts. Effect of cutting velocity, feed rate, depth of cut & machining duration is studied on the surface roughness. Taguchi’s design of experiment is used to find the optimum factor levels. It is found that the feed rate has much effect in producing lower surface roughness followed by speed. The depth of cut has lesser role on surface roughness. The result of Taguchi method shows that cutting velocity of 250m/min, feed rate of 0.25 mm/rev and depth of cut of 0.3mm should be maintained as optimal parameter settings for both coated and cryo-treated tools. Cryo-treated tools perform better. Keywords: Cryo-treatment, Dry Turning, Surface roughness, Taguchi Method

Optimization of Turning Parameters Using Taguchi MethodIJMER
Abstract: Today in manufacturing and metal industries customer satisfaction is very important to
make own place in competitive market and also to make mirror image with faith in the heart of
customer, because customer gives preference to buy good quality product. In the metal and
manufacturing industries for the product low surface roughness is very important. Lowest surface
roughness assures not only good quality but also reduces manufacturing cost. In this paper the main
objective is to study effect of cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut on surface roughness of mild steel
in turning operation and as a result of that the combination of optimum level of factors was obtained to
get lowest surface roughness. Experiments have been conducted using Taguchi’s experimental design
technique. An orthogonal array, signal to noise ratio, and analysis of variance are employed to
investigate cutting characteristics of mild steel using high speed steel. Experimental results show that
among the cutting parameter cutting speed is the most significant machining parameter for surface
roughness followed by feed rate and depth of cut.

Abstract
Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite constitutes the current trends in the composite technology and machining of
these materials make a challenging task. Drilling of GRPF can cause many problems if not optimized. In this study, composite
undergo drilling and L27 orthogonal array is used for determining delamination and surface roughness. Relationships are
developed between parameters. In drilling, spindle speed, tool point angle and feed rate are combined to know the optimal
parameters. Grey Relational Analysis was performed to observe the effect of parameters and its interaction. Experiment results
reveal that spindle speed is the most significant factor while point angle contributes to the least.

1. INTRODUCTION
The glass fiber-reinforced polymer composite makes its way
up in the engineering due its high strength to weight ratio.
These composites are highly used in transportation and
construction applications. BharathiRaja et al. found the
optimal machining parameters for the surface roughness in
machining. Experimental analysis were carried out on
aluminium material and studied effect of machining
parameters such as cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut on
the surface roughness and to obtain the desired surface
roughness on face milling process. Mathematical model for
surface roughness prediction using Particle Swarm
Optimization (PSO) was developed on the basis of
experimental results [1].
Lu et al. examined optimization design of the cutting
parameters for high-speed end drilling on SKD61 tool steel.
The main features selected to estimate the processes are tool
life and metal removal rate, and the corresponding cutting
parameters were spindle speed, feed per tooth, radial depth
of cut, and axial depth of cut. Grey Relational Analysis was
the tool used for optimization [2].
Panneerselvam et al. studied the performance of cutting tool
on Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP). Grey
Relational Analysis approach was the tool used for the study
and optimized the machining parameters such as Tool
Condition, number of flutes, cutting speed and feed rate on
milling of GFRP. The outputs measured were surface
delamination, machining forces, cutting torque and surface
roughness [3].
Baharudin et al. expanded the Taguchi technique to study
the optimal surface roughness on material AL6061. The
milling parameters were assessed based on various factors
such as spindle speed, feed rate and axial rake angle.
Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was carried out by an
orthogonal array L9 and found out signal-to-noise (S/N)
ratio and identifies the significant factors that are affecting
to the surface roughness [4].Faria et al. (2008) studied
machining parameters such as thrust force and tool wear on
carbon fiber epoxy composite(CFRP) by using steel coated
carbide drill. Testing was conducted in an industrial setting
and drilled up to 24,000 holes. Output parameters reviewed
was difference in the thrust force and in geometry [5].
MohamadSyahmiShahromet al. studied Minimum Quantity
Lubricant (MQL) and wet machining in milling processes of
AISI 1060 Aluminum work material with the main objective
of determining the effect of lubrication conditions on the
surface roughness. The other parameters considered in the
study are feed rate (FR), depth of cut (DOC) and cutting
speed (CS).There are four levels in each parameters. He
used the Taguchi method was used to predict the surface
roughness. He found that, MQL produced better surface
finish as compared to wet machining [6].
AzlanMohdZain et al. observed best possible effect of the
radial rake angle of the tool, speed and feed rate, cutting
conditions in effecting the surface roughness. Surface
roughness should be minimum for optimization technique.
In the study, Grey Relational Analysis was done to find the
optimal result of the cutting conditions and the study proved
that the GRA is capable of estimating the optimal cutting
conditions [7]. Davim et al. (2004) examined cutting speed
and feed rate as input parameters and surface roughness and
delamination as output parameters. K10 carbide tools were
used for the milling process. Output parameters such as
surface roughness and delamination were predicted using
response surface method (RSM).

3. GREY RELATIONAL ANALYSIS
In grey relational analysis, the level of similarity between
elements touchstone the relative among elements. It finds
out uncertain relation between one main factor and other
factors given in a system. Black denotes zero information
and white symbolize all information in grey relation
technique. Grey is in between black and white. In the case
that experiments are ambiguous or when the experimental
method cannot be carried out exactly, grey analysis helps to
compensate for the shortcoming in statistical regression.
4. MACHINING PERFORMANCE MEASURES
In this present study, Delamination Factor (DF) and Surface
Roughness (Ra) were considered as the output parameter
affecting the results of machining process by varying
spindle speed, point angle and feed rate. Mitutoyo make
Subsonic Surface Tester was used to find out the Surface
Roughness. The Table 3 shows the orthogonal array (L27)

5. RESULTS AND DISCUSSUIONS
The experiments were carried out on the bases of L27
orthogonal array. Delamination factor and surface roughness
were analysed on changing spindle speed, point angle and
feed rate. The input parameters were optimized by using
Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) for determining the
optimal machining input parameters with the consideration
of several performance features. Grey relational grade was
found out and ranked for obtaining the optimal condition.
Besides, this approach is feasible to obtain optimal
machining parameters for a desired surface roughness and
minimum delamination factor by GRA.

Grey relational Analysis was used to discover optimal
machining parameter. With GRA, we determine found grey
relational grade and finally ranked it. Since the minimum
value of surface roughness and minimum delamination
