Michigan Opera Theatre holds Opera Club events to educate the community about opera. The 2014/2015 season overview is presented, including founder David DiChiera celebrating his 80th birthday. Wayne Brown was appointed new CEO in 2014. Opera Clubs are held in 14 Detroit-area communities, lasting 1 hour with a presentation on the opera and live excerpts. Over 1,350 people have attended so far this season, with 21% purchasing tickets. Feedback shows attendees appreciate the convenient locations and educational presentations. Looking ahead, costs will be cut 16% and community captains will help coordinate events.

- 5. Opera Club Mission • Educate our community about Opera. • Highlight local Operatic talent. • Promote Michigan Opera Theater’s 44 years of presenting premiere opera in Michigan.

Opera Club Format • Sessions limited to 1hr in length. • 50 to 150 Attendees • Presentation includes: o History of the Composer o Synopsis of the Opera o Overview of the current production. o Live musical selections o Question and Answer session with attendees • Reception with light hors d’oeuvres and beverages.

Distinguishing Features of MOT Opera Clubs • Each club event is held at a new venue within each club’s community. • Clubs are named by community. • No admission charge • Singers from MOT perform live selections from the Opera being highlighted • Attendees receive discounted Tickets of Main Stage Productions • Access to Opera dinner packages • Networking opportunities for club attendees
- 10. Current Season Results Thus Far: October 2014 to March 2015 • Educated and entertained 1,350 people. • Sold 283 tickets o ~ 21% purchase rate o Grossed $20,053 • Expenses $7,800 o Singers o Refreshments o Transportation o Misc

Feedback & Analysis • 66% of Opera Club attendees heard of events by “word of mouth”. • 70% of Opera Club attendees had not seen a MOT production at the Opera house. • 82% of attendees commented on the convenience of the club locations. • Club attendees commented on the high quality of the ambiance and presentation of club events. • Club attendees commented that Opera Club provides background to productions and subsequently made performances more relevant and enjoyable .
