Olivia E. Coolidge s Arachne
In the story Arachne by Olivia E. Coolidge, there was a conflict between Arachne and the Goddess
Athene. Arachne s arrogance was the cause of the conflict between the two of them. Arachne, a
mortal, said that she was equal or even greater than the Goddess Athene at weaving. In the text it
states With my own ten fingers I gained this skill, and by hard practice from early morning till night. I
never had time to stand looking as you people do while another maiden worked. Nor if I had, would I
give Athene credit because the girl was more skillful than I. As for Athene s weaving, how could there
be finer cloth or more beautiful embroidery than mine? If Athene herself were to come down and
compete with me, she could do no better than I. This angered Athene so she came down to ... Show

In the text it states Stupid old woman, said Arachne indignantly, who gave you the right to speak in
this way to me? It is easy to see that you were never good for anything in your day, or you would not
come here in poverty and rags to gaze at my skill. If Athene resents my words, let her answer them
herself. I have challenged her to a contest, but she, of course, will not come. It is easy for the gods to
avoid matching their skill with that of men. So while in the the contest Arachne was given warnings
from Athene but she still made something very insulting to the Gods. Athene insulted by her work
decided to turn Arachne into a spider. In the text it states When the goddess saw this insult glowing in
bright colors on Arachne s loom, she did not wait while the cloth was judged, but stepped forward, her
grey eyes blazing with anger, and tore Arachne s work across. Then she struck Arachne across the
face. Arachne stood there a moment, struggling with anger, fear, and pride. I will not live under this
insult, she cried, and seizing a rope from the wall, she made a noose and would have hanged

Canadian Identity Analysis
To show Canadian identity from my point of view, I decided to draw a map of Canada. As a high
school student who is engrossed deeply in physical geography, economics and investing, I decided to
focus on natural resources, industries, and recreation development. The way I view Canadian Identity
is largely founded on the economics of each province allowing millions of employees and provinces to
be wealthy.
The cornerstone of Canada s economy is the export of the natural resources. One of the provinces in
Canada I am in love with is a prairie province, Saskatchewan. Agriculture and mining extensively
dominate the provincial economy, and it is the largest exporter of potash and uranium in the world,
making Saskatchewan one of the highest GDP leaders.

Good Country People Hulga Character Analysis
An Induced Handicap In Flannery O Conner s short story, Good Country People, the author uses
various influences and instances in order to depict a handicapped woman, a woman who develops
deeper problems induced by a singular static factor. O Conner provides insight regarding the
handicaps in Hulga s life, such as her need to rebel, her guarded and insecure nature, and her
condescending nature, all of which, are products of her ultimate handicap, her prosthetic leg. Hulga s
demonstrates her rebellious side throughout the story in the form of rigid and rude behavior, as well as
action taken by her. Hulga demonstrates her rebellious nature in the introduction of the story, as the

do you ever look inside? Do you ever look inside and see what you are not? God! (1343). The rigid
and explicit behavior associated with the rebellious nature that Hulga exhibits is likely a diversion
technique that makes her feel secure and comfortable around others. Hulga also exhibits a guarded
personality through her unwillingness to trust others, which is another support for her insecure nature.
Her guarded personality shows when she begins to socialize with the bible salesman in a very
impersonal manner: Joy had given him one look on being introduced to him and then throughout the
meal has not glanced at him again (1346). Aside from the demonstration of insecurity through
rebellion, explicit behavior, and a guarded personality, Hulga also finds comfort in her condescending
nature that stems from her advanced philosophical education. Mrs. Hopewell, Hulga s mother,
describes Hulga s education as a Ph.D. in philosophy (1344). Hulga uses her extensive educational
background throughout the story as she condescends upon others, and imagines herself as superior:
True genius can get an idea across even to an inferior mind (1349). Hulga s behavior of hiding behind
condescending behavior and assumed superiority is another shield to aid in her handicap related to

Turbine Engines, Brayton Cycle And Thermodynamics
Turbine Engines, Brayton Cycle and Thermodynamics
I m writing this research paper for my Thermodynamics class with Professor Roh. I have a big interest
in turbine gas engines and how they operate. My future goal within mechanical engineering is to learn
how to maintain and design turbine gas engines.
How do Turbine Gas Engines operate?
I read this article at Wartsila website which enlightened me that Gas turbines are comprised of three
primary sections mounted on the same shaft: the compressor, the combustor and the turbine. The
compressor can be either axial flow or centrifugal flow. Axial flow compressors are more common in
power generation because they have higher flow rates and efficiencies. The acceleration of the air
through the rotating blades and diffusion by the stators increases the pressure and reduces the volume
of the air. Although no heat is added, the compression of the air also causes the temperature to
increase. The compressed air is mixed with fuel which ignites under constant pressure conditions and
the hot combustion products (gases) are directed through the turbine where it expands rapidly and
imparts rotation to the shaft. The turbine is also comprised of stages, each with a row of stationary
blades (or nozzles) to direct the expanding gases followed by a row of moving blades. The rotation of
the shaft drives the compressor to draw in and compress more air to sustain continuous combustion.
The remaining shaft power is used to drive a generator

Summary Of The Poem What A Jerk
What a jerk? That s him pushing the stone up the hill, the jerk (34 37): Seems like Mrs. Sisyphus,
throughout the poem, is attempting to rule out her workaholic husband of any chance to explain
himself or tell his side of the story on why he works a lot. The reader may even argue that there may
be some valid complaints that she states but she s not all that sympathetic. There s this sense of
complete hatred for her husband as if he s really a horrendous person, but in reality she s alone and
hurt rather than angry. Throughout the poem, she comes across as very evil, diabolical, but in a softer
sense. Her words don t seem to stick since they re more of a soft insult rather than harsh and rough, as
if a little girl did not get the candy she wants so she s ignoring her mother for not buying her it, but she
s calling her mean and all this in the moment, but then gets sad because she didn t get that piece of
candy. If you take a look at the beginning stanzas of the poem, she says in her own words, I call it a
stone it s nearer the size of a kirk. When he first started out, it just used to irk, but now its incenses me,
and him, the absolute berk. I could do something vicious to him with a dirk. (2 5). When reading this
poem, the first thing you may realize is that this poem is written as a dramatic monologue, which is a
literary technique used to speak to some kind of non present listener, and she puts this story together
in a dramatic and shocking sort of way as if she

John Marshal s Life and Work
Confucius said, May you live in interesting times. John Marshall, fourth Chief Justice of the United
States Supreme Court certainly did, from witnessing the birth of our country, to serving as the longest
tenured Chief Justice in Supreme Court History. In a span of just under two years, he went from
serving as a member of Congress, representing Virginia s 13th District, to serving as the nation s
fourth Secretary of State, to being appointed the fourth Chief Justice of the United States Supreme
Court, January. It Begins John Marshall was born in 1755, the oldest of 15 children born to Thomas
and Mary Keith Marshall in Fauquier County, Virginia. Marshall s formal education began at age 14 at
the Campbelltown Academy in Westmoreland ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marshall started changes at his swearing in ceremony by wearing a plain black robe, instead of the
more common scarlet ermine trimmed robes favored in the past, that were reminiscent of British
judges. Another change he made was having all the justices stay in the same boarding house while not
in court. His reasoning was that in doing so it would instill a comradeship among the justices and give
them time to discuss cases in private away from the court. His biggest change was to stop the tradition
of each justice issuing a separate opinion. Marshall felt that by issuing one unanimous opinion, it
would have more effect, leaving no doubt as to the outcome, It is the opinion of this Court... Marbury

District Courts, stopped the Supreme Court members from riding circuit, reduced the Supreme Court

filled by outgoing Federalist President, John Adams. President Adams nominated loyal Federalists to

Nursing Theorist Grid
Nursing Theorist Grid 1. Theorist Selected: Jean Watson 2. Description of key points of the theory: In
Watson s philosophy of human caring she developed carative factors. She uses the word carative to
classify nursing and medicine. The carative factors aim at the caring process. There are 10 carative
factors each one involving a lived experience from all involved in the relationship, including the
nurse. Watson described a need for transpersonal caring relationship. This is defined as a relationship
between the nurse and patient, in which the relationship affects both. The patient and the nurse are
both open and accepting of each other. Watson s theory emphasized on the caring moment. She
describes this as spending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keeping the environment to a calm atmosphere promotes healing. Educating nurses and nursing
students to be prepared to care for patients as a whole, as well as educating nurses on the importance
of being non judgmental, will make building a trusting relationship with the patient leisurelier. Nurses
are taught earlier in nursing school the importance of caring for a patient and keeping their
environments comfortable. Students and nurses who are taught to practice Watson s theory, gain
education that is focused on caring as its center. It is not only important for the nurse to practice what
they are taught but to also educate the patient. Watsons theory of caring applies to most nursing
research. Almost all nursing research involves the caring model. A variety of research has been
achieved with its focus on caring and nursing. Caring or not caring can have both positive and
negative consequences. Research has proven that the biogentic level, the deepest level of a caring
relationship, was in connection with true caring. This level of caring is related to the transpersonal
caring theory. Research also shows that the level of non caring, known as the biocidic level, leads to
annoyance, frustration, and non healing (Watson 2006). Health The harmony and peace within the
mind, body, and the soul. She defined health as the similarity between the alleged self and the self that

person. If it is relevant, a clear, simple and brief explanation of the disability to young people may
help them understand.Guidelines should be followed regarding people in wheelchairs. First, ask how
you can help. Talk to a person in a wheelchair at eye level with them. Do inform the person in the
wheelchair of your intention, e.g. when tilting the wheelchair. Make sure the seat belt (if any) is
fastened before moving off. Apply the brakes when the wheelchair is stationary, when transferring and
when leaving the wheelchair unattended. Ask the person in the wheelchair if they are comfortable,
especially if they have transferred. Always maintain at least one wheelchair length behind another
wheelchair rider. Ask for assistance if you cannot overcome an obstacle. Look ahead to avoid sudden
changes in level and other hazards. Look out for drain gratings and approach in a diagonal manner. If
possible, push the wheelchair on the pavement rather than on the road. 1.2 Explain the importance of

Why I Am A Cold Bowl Of Mac And Cheese
As I sat down to eat the cold bowl of Mac and Cheese that I had brought with me, my emotions boiled
over as a horror which I wish upon no one came forth. Infuriated, my rage took control of me as I
jumped out of my chair, forcibly tossing the only source of food I had disposable to me in the garbage.
This climatic moment was initiated upon my discovery that there was a broken microwave in the
Sawyer lounge and Suffolk University had yet to replace it. Yes, it seems trivial, even downright
ridiculous to get that pent up over a defunct microwave, but look at the scenario from my perspective.
Imagine getting up at six in the morning for a nine A.M. class, anxious about all your assignments
coming up, and having your last class finish at five forty five P.M. I had wondered how many other
commuter students had to suffer the same fate as I had to that day. All you want is a warm energizing
meal, but the broken microwave prevents you from obtaining it.
See, what the incident stated above did is affirm my notion that Suffolk is not accommodating to its
commuter students. Historically, Suffolk University was a commuter school. However, since 1996,
Suffolk has opened four residence halls, the most recent being The Modern Theater Residence Hall,
which opened in 2010. (Suffolk University) This has resulted in a shift in the school that saw 66.9% of
the admitted freshmen class of 2015 live in the residence halls (Applications at el). Conversely, as the
University has shifted towards the

The Influence Of WRKY Genedation Factors
As we are trying to determine how FLS2 is regulated without the influence of WRKY transcription
factors, we want to prevent the WRKY transcription factors from recognizing and binding to the
promoter. Therefore, we mutate the W box promoter motif. Both forward sequences (+) have a point
mutation at the second position, so when transcription factors are trying bind, they would not
recognize the mutated sequence thus not binding. In addition, the third sequence ( ) is a reverse
transcript and it is complementary to the second (+) strand.
WRKY transcription factors are involved in regulating FLS2 gene expression. Based on the result
from the assays, the GUS activity level of the leaves infiltrated with the bacterial pathogen
Pseudomonas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The FLS2 expression is under the spatiotemporal control as its transcriptional activation depends on
ethylene signaling (EIN 3 and EIL1), which also involves the binding of transcription factors.
Therefore, different stressors cause different bindings of the transcription factors and lead to a
different level of gene expression in tissues.
We could use CRISPR Cas 9 complex to determine whether WRKY75 transcription factor directly
regulates FLS2 expression. First, we would use two sets of root samples, a control sample with regular
a WRKY75 promoter, and an experimental sample that the WRKY74 promoter has been knocked out
by CRISPR Cas 9 complex. Next, we looked up the WRKY75 promoter sequence in the NCBI
database and created a guide RNA sequence from the DNA sequence of the particular site we are
looking for to cleave. Then, this will allow the Cas9 to come, bind and cleave out the WRKY75
promoter. Once the WRKY75 promoter is being knocked out, transcription factors would not be able
to bind and FLS2 gene expression would not be turned on in theory. After that, EMSA could be used
to detect whether the WRK75 binds to the FLS2 promoter and

When you re out living your life as a normal kid it can be fun, easy, and even great. I was able to live
that life until I got my diagnosis of Charcot Marie Tooth type 1E (CMT1E) when I was eight.
CMT is a form of Muscular Dystrophy that causes muscle weakness in the hands and legs. This makes
life a lot more difficult, when my family and I found out I had MD we were in confusion because MD
is hereditary but in my case it was spontaneous. Even though I was young I was old enough to
recognize my situation. Considering none of my family members had/has MD we knew nothing about
it. My mom (Mia Grefe Lewis) would research as much as she could about CMT1E and MD but kept

A Study Of A Friend Dealing With Identity Crisis
In this case study, the writer will view a study of a friend dealing with identity crisis. For identity
purposes the writer will name the friend Mary.
Demographic Description of the Client Mary is a 58 year old single African American female who
lives in Atlanta Ga. with two adult daughters and one granddaughter and one grandson. Both
grandchildren are under the age of ten. Mary was married to an FBI agent, and they divorced in the 90
s. Mary is slender built with curves any woman would envy and charming. Most importantly she is
born again and loves the Lord. According to Sabar, we can never completely and utterly comprehend
the other s experience. To gain the best understanding possible of the other we need to appreciate the
way they configure themselves in relation to the environment, the patterns they paint as they relate to
their world and those they meet in their world, the way they shape and form their experience. How the
individual forms and then moves on from one experience to another. A person transitions through
many stages of life. Those different stages cause a person to feel different about themselves in a
negative manner depending on their lifestyle.
Presenting Problem
Mary sought to counsel because of her low self esteem about her life. Mary desires a husband as her
friends. She noticed being angry a lot and slashing out at her daughters and speaking negative remarks
toward them and their boyfriends. She does not have many friends because some women

Modern History Assignment
How did European Influences from the early 19th century affect Morocco?
Europe has had incredible influence on Morocco and Northern Africa, and its strategic location
between greater Africa and the Iberian Peninsula has shaped its history. The area has been occupied by
a vast litany of civilizations, from ancient Romans, and Arabic occupants bringing Islam, to life as a
protectorate of France in 1912. The European occupation of Morocco between the 19th and 20th
centuries has truly had a lasting effect on the region.

In the early 19th century, major European influence began with Abderrahmane, who ruled from 1822
to 1859 and took a vastly different approach from his predecessor, Moulay Slimane who began his
reign bankrupt, and worsened the situation with an incredibly bad decision, enacting isolationist
policies, severing all trade with Europe because at the time, the shari a was interpreted to have
forbidden trade with Christians, however some historians believe that the was actually because of a
long running non aggressive conflict Morocco had with Spain and Portugal. These policies caused
mass famine and rioting in Fez in 1820 , and all but brought the Sultan down until he paid off the
armies. Abderrahmane was an enthusiastic advocate of foreign trade, signing trade treaties with
Portugal, France, Italy and Britain. These treaties went a long way to improving Morocco s
international position and when Morocco entered a drought in 1825; they imported 2.5 million
kilograms of grain, alleviating the situation. When France invaded Algeria in 1930, Abderrahmane had
to decide whether to support religious brothers, or to live with their new and powerful neighbor, he
was stuck between a rock and a hard place, as one would be met with rebellion and the other invasion.

Christians Have All Of God
Christians have certain responsibilities to uphold in order to call themselves Christians . To be a said,
Christian , is not simply believing in God, but having a devoted relationship with him and living every
aspect of life with the all omnipotent creator as the center. Throughout my life I have fallen short of
these expectations again and again in a cycle we call, sin. However, God forgives this sin daily with
such grace and mercy. I believe God will use my sin, my life, in ways that I can not even begin to
fathom, to further his kingdom. This past summer I served as a counselor at a local christian camp.
During my first week of counseling I met a boy named Blake. Blake was the sort of kid who walked
into indoor registration with his shades on, sleeves rolled up and bandanas plastered on his arms and
legs. The kid that everyone warned you about, the kid nobody wanted. I observed at Blake that first
day and felt a sense of empathy and compassion. I remember seeing this kid at previous camps. The
kid that came from a broken home, a rough neighbourhood or simply had a tough teacher. The one
that everyone wanted to avoid, despite being in a Christian camp. During quiet devotion time on the
second day, I took the station Blake had lumped himself into. He had sunk himself down into a bag of
balls so you could barely see his small body as he snickered in rebellion. His other friends play

Ancient Societies Collapse Research Paper
Throughout history there have been an untold number of societal collapses; some have been studied
completely and others forgotten in history. As time passes and new innovations are created, so are new
paths for collapse. However, the downfalls of the ancient civilizations are also applicable in today s
society. With decades of archaeological and historical research, theories have arisen as to why these
societies collapsed and what humans of today can do to avoid a similar fate.
While many collapses are thought to have occurred from several factors compounding over many
years, most can be attributed to three main issues: the environment, war, and trade. Environmental
changes seem to have the quickest and most drastic affect on civilizations, ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
The most likely way that current society will collapse would be a large scale environmental change
that affects a majority of the Earth. In the most dramatic case, if a climate changing event such as a
volcanic eruption or a heat wave occurred, the effects would be catastrophic. If the event affected
enough of the planet, there would be mass starvation that would eventually lead to the downfall of
human civilization. Also, humans affecting the environment with global warming and using up natural
resources such as oil and trees will create an uninhabitable planet. If the environmental change only
affected a small region, other countries would provide aid and attempt to rebuild that society. If trade
were to disintegrate globally, many societies would collapse due to their dependence on imported
goods and the profit from exported items, similar to Pitcairn and Henderson. If trade from one country
stopped, it would not have as much of an effect seeing as all of the countries connected and another
trade system could be created. For example, if trade from a country that produces oil stops, many
countries would suffer without fuel for a short while until another trade route from a different country
began. Due to the economically interconnected nature of the world today, it is unlikely that a collapse
would happen due to shifting trade. Another main factor of collapse is war and societies ending due to
invasions. A modern day war could be taken far enough where entire cities are wiped out and
civilizations destroyed. For example, if the War on Terror is continued for long enough, countless
societies in West Asia could be demolished. Ultimately, any of the aforementioned changes could
cause a collapse, it merely depends on the magnitude and severity of the event, and which places are
afflicted. Other

The Impact Of Ray Charles On American Culture
The impact that Ray Charles has had on American culture is nearly indescribable. Although unable to
see, he was successful in making his artistic visions come to life by fusing the sounds of blues, gospel,
jazz, and R B, making him one of the leading soul artists of the 1950s. The legendary musician is
recognized for being a pillar in the industry, credited with making strides in desegregating musical
genres. Although he composed many of his early hits, Charles is considered to be an interpreter of
music, offering his distinct personal vision of many classics. Over the course of his career, which
spanned five decades, he recorded over 60 albums and sold millions of records worldwide. Ray
Charles was born on Sept. 23, 1930, in Albany, Georgia, and grew up in Greenville, Florida. At the
young age of five, he began losing his sight, and became completely blind by the time he was seven.
However, this did not hinder Ray Charles at all, as he continued to persevere in developing his
musical talents. One of the most unique aspects of Ray Charles was his unparalleled ability to
crossover different genres of music. He mixed together genres such as blues, jazz, gospel, R B, pop,
and even country. With this integration, he created smash hits such as I Got a Woman, Hit the Road
Jack, and I Can t Stop Loving You. When a listener listens close enough to one of Charles songs,

was a well known American illustrator during the 1900s. His work was greatly admired because he
idealized the American life around him. While Rockwell himself was not religious, his work, using
great technical skill, communicated a positive message of morality found in America past.

From a young age, he chose to study under George Bridgeman and Thomas Fogarty who were
considered to be more traditional, and looked up to artists such as Rembrandt and Brughel. He did
intense research for his paintings, and created backgrounds for his characters and props for his
settings. Norman Rockwell had an extensive process to his work, and created detailed sketches from
live models or photographs before he would begin to paint. In the early thirties, he did go to Paris and
attempt dynamic symmetry, but quickly went back to his traditional way of painting. Alden Hatch
states that Rockwell brings to his painting not only great talent, but superb technique and artistic
knowledge, bought by years of training and unceasing study. (Hatch/Rockwell, 9) Ben Sonder states in
The Legacy of Norman Rockwell that Rockwell had remarkable eye for detail, was rigorous in his

Letter from a Birmingham Jail Analysis
A Letter from Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King Jr. was written in the margins of a letter posted
by the clergymen of Alabama at this time that sparked his interest and while he inhabited the jail cell
for parading around without a permit. This time allowed him the ability to respond wholeheartedly to
this cynical oppressing. King s letter addresses specific points presented in the Clergymen s and this
direct response distinguishes King s strong points through his powerful writing. Unethical and
immoral mentions came to the attention of the Minister through the letter, and he expressed his
differing views and defended his ideals and actions through Aristotle s three rhetorical devices, ethos,
logos, and pathos. First and foremost, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One powerful example of King s pull on the reader s consciousness in his letter is on page three when
he refutes the argument of the Clergymen saying that Colored people should just wait . While many
words truly stand out, King s true effect was mastered by the appeal to the parents in the group, When
you have to concoct an answer for a five year old son who is asking: Daddy, why white people treat
colored people so mean ( Letter from Birmingham Jail 3)Then again, humiliation day in and day out
by nagging signs ( Letter from Birmingham Jail 3) and even further, when you are forever fighting a
degenerating sense of nobodiness ( Letter from Birmingham Jail 3). Another element that helps
support King s point in his letter is the fervent repetition of his blatant disappointment in more than
simply the clergymen, but their Christian faith and the churches in service within Alabama during this
time. King repeats how disappointed he was in the common whites also and their bystander reactions
to racial issues. The fact that this man, a minister, beneath the said extremist white clergymen, and
inhabiting a jail cell during that time, who was disappointed in people showed a true depth which hit
the audience profoundly. (King) These three elements to Martin Luther King s letter aid it to be the
most effective argument against the Clergymen s rash and

The Benefits of Offshore Drilling Essay
As a young girl comes out of the ocean from swimming, suddenly she notices the brown oily stains on
her bathing suit. When she looks back into the water, tar balls flow with the current of the water. The
girl automatically washes the toxins off of her body, and she no longer wants to go to the beach for
vacation. This results in lower tourist rates. Although accidents happen, the coastal workers
continually strive to keep the beaches clean for the tourists that visit regularly. The recent British
Petroleum oil spill that ravaged the Gulf Coast has turned people away from offshore drilling, but this
type of drilling can really benefit the United States without great destruction. One benefit of offshore

Oil spills usually occur as temporary accidents, while pollution from trucks happens every day.
Therefore, offshore drilling does not contaminate the water as badly as the United States thinks.
Another benefit of offshore oil drilling consists of increasing job opportunities for people. The
unstable economy in the United States results in people losing their jobs quite often. In the book
Offshore Drilling, the loss of job opportunity in the United States is explained this way:
The high cost of energy is making it impossible for many U.S. companies to remain competitive here
and is driving them to relocate their plants overseas. . . Plant relocations have been a major factor in
the loss of nearly five million manufacturing jobs in the past 20 years. (Offshore)
If platforms relocate overseas due to high costs, Americans lose a staggering amount of jobs at one
time. Americans need these jobs in order to raise their families and to continue supporting the
economy. Employment rates will increase if more offshore oil drilling arises. A few years ago, the
Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act was passed (Offshore). In defense of the DOER Act,
Representative Richard Pombo (R CA) said, The balance struck in this bill will save and create
American jobs (Offshore). This statement remains very true. When more offshore drilling takes place,
the extra jobs on the new rigs will be available to unemployed people. The government needs to raise
and maintain the employment levels.

Reaction Paper On Lupus
Systemic lupus erythematosus (more commonly known as lupus) is an autoimmune disease that
affects more women than men, usually between ages 15 to 45. The cause is often unknown, although
in some individuals, the condition may be drug induced. The symptoms may differ from patient to
patient, but commonly include a butterfly rash on the face, ulcerations on the mouth, nose, and vagina,
loss of hair, thick scarring, changes in skin pigmentation, hives, welts, and color changes in the
fingertips as a response to changes in temperature and stress (Raynaud s phenomena). As the disease

Code Talkers Chapter Summary
Code Talkers was written by Chester Nez with the help of Judith Schiess Avila. Chester Nez, a Navajo
WWII veteran, was one of the original twenty nine Native Americans who came up with and wrote the
top secret Navajo code used during the World War II. This code was a turning point in the war against
the Japanese. Judith Avila is a cod talker scholar with the New Mexico Endowment for the Humanities
Chautauqua Program, she conducted over eighty hours with Chester and his son Michael.
The beginning of the book starts off with Chester s early childhood on the reservation. During the
1920 s life on the Checkerboard Area of the Navajo Reservation was not an easy life for anyone to
grow up on. There was no plumbing, electricity, modern housing nor any cars and the winters were
harsh and summers long and hot. However, the mesas had its own beauty and it offered plenty of land
great for raising sheep and goats and the land was ideal for the Navajo people to celebrate and keep in
contact with their spiritual connects to nature. Chester treasured his memory growing up there and
described how in his early childhood he would follow his family around the reservation tending to
their flock of sheep and goats. He never had a worry in the world and took ... Show more content on

Essay About Greek Gods
In Greek mythology, the relationship between gods and humans is complicated. The gods seem to do
whatever they want with humans and kind of treat them as disposable slaves, but then in some
accounts, the gods treat humans as friends and offer them help. As for the humans, they should treat
the gods with respect and bow down to them because they are a greater being compared to humans.
However, humans are not perfect and tend to upset the gods, but it is not always intentional. The gods,
on the other hand, probably feel as though they should have to do anything for the humans, unless
they are followers or have done something worthy of their respect. Additionally, the gods also like to
have fun with humans and give them tests, which usually ends poorly for the humans. In the Story of
Lycaon, Zeus decides to test the human race and disguised himself in the kingdom of Lycaon. He
gives the people a sign that he was a god and the ruler of the kingdom mocked Zeus. The ruler refuses

Introduction Over 1 million public charities are currently existing in the United States. The purpose of
these charities is to address a concern that one may see. These public good deeds are usually funded

How Do We Dependent On Technology
As I said in my previous essay, not many people realize it, but the human race desperately depends on
technology for existence. Although depending on things such as computers, cellular devices, and
search engines comes with very helpful and developmental research, it has also come with many
negative effects. Technology has literally affected all aspects of life for every living person. To the
point where it has made people lazy, taken their jobs, and has even made people addicted to social
networking. Some examples of problems are constant use of social media, texting and driving
incidents, cyberbullying, and even cheating on tests or exams. I believe that we ve become evermore
negatively dependent on technology because humans now feel the need to socialize and connect with
one another more frequently than they did before the turn of the 21st century. I strongly believe that all
the problems that I listed a bove do have a solution to them. Focusing on the technology that is used
most commonly, which are laptops, computers, and cell phones, I would like to specifically write
about the topic of using a cellular device while driving, and cyberbullying. The reason why I decided
to use the term using a cellular device while driving is because nowadays people not only text and
drive, but they also use social platforms such as instagram, snapchat, and even facebook. The increase
in social media use also increases the rate of bullying that is done online. These two are the major
causes of feeling the need to connect with one another. The constant texting and the boost of social
media use.
There are many ways that distracted driving can affect you. In the article How Far Does Your Vehicle
Travel While Looking at Your Cell Phone, author Tony Summerville states that, Sending or reading a
text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. AT 55 mph, that s like driving the length of an entire
football field, blindfolded. A lot can happen in those hundred yards that a person travels while they re
distracted. The worst thing that could ever happen in the event of a car accident due to distracted
driving would have to be death, or even a severe injury. If a person is lucky multitask without making
mistake while

Ocean Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
A symbol is anything that represents an object, an idea, a character, an action, or an animal in the
story. Many times, these symbols signify something conceptual, like a force of nature, a condition of
the world, or an idea. In the book, Lord Of The Flies, there are many symbols that signify the
beginning or end of something new in the story. For example, the island and the ocean, the water
current flowing backwards, and the beast all symbolize a new change and realization to the story. The
island and the ocean symbolize an uncharted, untouched area, the indefinite and endless nature of life
that can change from calm to chaos in seconds, and, also, strength, tranquility, and stability. The island
and the ocean symbolize both a paradise and also the destructive nature of humanity. The island can
symbolize a Garden of Eden, a pristine and bountiful place where the boys can begin anew. In the
beginning of the book, Jack says, we are going to have fun on this island (Golding 104). The boys
really did think of this island as a paradise, or at least Jack did. However, much like the biblical
Garden of Eden, paradise can be suddenly lost when the boys are enticed by evil. The advent of the
boys pollutes the sanctity of the island, as did the advent of Satan and the eventual temptation of Eve
and loss and innocence ( Lauryn Galloway ). The pristine paradise is set on fire by the boys and
everything gets destroyed but luckily it saved them because a ship saw the smoke. The ocean can
symbolize the incessant and endless nature of life but it also symbolizes becoming astray and then
finding one s way through life. The ocean is a boundless space isolating the boys from all they once
knew about the world. But after Simon dies and gets washed out into the sea, the ocean symbolizes all
good getting washed away, getting replaced by evil. Simon becomes the good bygone and Jack
becomes the evil washing over. But the island and the ocean aren t the only symbols in the book. The
water current flowing backwards, that deceives many into thinking it is just a detail, actually
symbolizes more. The water current flowing backwards can symbolize many things. It could be giving
the subtle impression that civilization may be

Assignment # 5 What caused the demise of the electric car?
In the 1990s the electric car was never really alive
In 1987 when the Sunraycer won, Roger Smith saw the potential for a commercial electric vehicle
(EV); only 3 years later, GM announced the Impact prototype. CARB, emboldened by the seeming
viability of EVs, quickly passed ZEV mandate. It seemed the EV was making rapid in roads.
However, 13 years later ZEV mandate was reversed and nearly all electric cars produced were
destroyed by their own manufacturers. This stark turn of events begs the question Who is to blame?
When we go back over the facts, it becomes clear that ultimately limited and cost prohibitive

Although Who Killed the Electric Car focuses on ~50 enthusiasts there is no consistent evidence of
high potential demand for the EV1.
GM made a rational business decision to close down the EV1
At a price point of $50 60K with poorer features than traditional cars demand for the EV1 would be
extremely low, and it is unclear whether the EV1 would have ever reached enough scale to be
profitable. Given these conditions, it is not unreasonable that GM would discontinue the EV1.
Other factors
While the demise of the EV was largely a function of viable technology there are several other
contextual elements worth noting.
Firstly, the decline of oil prices in 1996 decreased the price of substitutes to the EVs and increased
demand for traditional cars. In addition, the oil lobbyist s blocking of recharging infrastructure limited
important complements for a viable EV market.
Secondly, CARB s production requirements contingent upon demonstrated demand created a perverse
incentive for car manufacturers to suppress demand for their vehicles if they believed that consumer
demand (at a profitable price) would fall below CARB s mandated levels. The impact was that even if
the EV was not viable at the time, manufacturers were encouraged to stop exploring improvements to
make the EV viable in the future to avoid signaling a future demand to CARB.
Viable EVs, but CARB should be careful

Women s Impact On Women Essay
The 1800 s redefined who, what, and how women would continue to be represented in the United
States. Prior to this era women s roles in America were very limited; women had to abide by laws such
as coverture. Men were the dominating force in social events, political events and in the economy.
Nonetheless, women continued to fight these injustices and set multiple milestones during the 1800 s
and the 1900 s. Several significant people and movements would attribute to these noteworthy
milestones that women would overcome. For the duration of this time women were not staying silent
about the inequalities regarding women and African Americans in America. Women like Clarina Irene
Howard Nichols took an early stance on the injustice women faced during this time, focusing on the
Temperance Movement and later moving in the direction of Women s Suffrage as well as focusing on
the injustice African Americans faced. In addition to Clarina Irene Howard Nichols, Elizabeth Cady
Stanton and Lucretia Mott would continue to take a more radical stance and hold the first women s
convention in Seneca Falls, New York. These women are predominating figures in the impending
movement for women. Women s Suffrage and Temperance is often a bridge for the women s
movement of the time. In addition to focusing on women s movements, these women were also
movers and shakers in the anti slavery issues. These types of crusades empowered women to fight for
the injustice they experienced in addition to fight

The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of the shocking city

rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police helicopter is shown hovering
unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the helicopter, bird s eye view shots are
taken with speed shots many long shots zooming into close ups as the panoramic view of the city is

focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us police cars, people being chased and people being
injured makes the upbeat anxiety more effective. Another aspect of the opening, which I found
effective, is the voice over. Made to seem God like, it echoes the story in brief, in a somewhat worried
and disappointed tone of voice. Luhrmann indicates the ongoing vendetta by showing the close up

Chipotle Mexican Grill has been trying to recover from their e Coli outbreak in 2015 and planned on
finally escaping the decline in 2017. They planned on doing this by regaining the trust of customers

now the company has begun to once again decline. Although the recent Hurricanes Irma and Harvey

skyrocketing prices of avocados. The price of the fruit is up by 125% since January. Two reasons

Super Bowl Sunday Every people is a unique existence: people like different thing, and they have
their own specializations. However, is there an activity that is able to gather all kinds of people and
drive them crazy? Apparently, one can list numerous answers. Nevertheless, watching Super Bowl can
definitely stay on the top of the list in America. At 4 pm, I came to the Grainger Library to start
writing my lab report. Believing it is a big day for fans of football, I expected to see a different library
today. However, when I entered the library, I hardly noticed any changes here there were no any
decorations, and people here wearing casual clothes were busy as always. Well, I don t care. I am not
even a football fan. I murmured to myself to comfort my little ... Show more content on

Some people wore football uniforms in the bar, and it seemed that they were the group of people who
shouted aloud frequently. To be honest, I had a good time here. Though I didn t know any stars or even
rules of football, my friend was willing to guide me through the fundamental things in football. He
said the culture of football had to be learned, and it held true for everybody. That night we had plenty
of time to talk to each other, because though the game should only last for about an hour, there were
many advertisements and performance which made the whole game last for approximately four hours.
I called Renjie, a missioner, when I was back to my dorm. We were supposed to meet that night but I
canceled the meeting for the Super Bowl. I asked him, How are you doing tonight? Did you watch the
football? There are more than a dozen people who asked the same question tonight. I am not a fan of
football, and I enjoyed my staying at home! he replied emotionally. I suddenly realized that it doesn t
matter whether you are a football fan or not, as long as you are in America, the football day can drive
you crazy in a

Consequences Of Control
The Consequences of Controlling Others
Mandy Hale once said, The only keeper of happiness is you. Stop giving people power to control your
smile, your worth and your attitude. The one shot to live your life enjoyably, is to be able to break free
from the control of others. But countless people find is tough to personally control and live their lives
to the fullest. This does not just result in a change in personality, but a change in the society. When
people allow themselves to be controlled by others, the consequences can be devastating. One way
these controlling natures can result in a negative consequence is that people cannot display their true
selves. Connie Schultz writes about her feelings as a child: I grew up surrounded by children ... Show

By doing this, the child gains more courage to stand up. In the same way, to stand up to others is
having the courage to deep down in their heart. According to Jessica, a student of Charleston,
Mississippi High school, the horrors Connie were facing were negligible: I started hanging out with
Calvin; and my parents threatened me and threatened me and threatened me (Prom Night in
Mississippi n.pag.). It is unacceptable for these controlling parents to employ their children to do what
they want. But, threatening a child to do what you want is repugnant landing far beyond unacceptable
demeanor. As a matter of fact, inviting yourself into others lives in order to control them is ghastly,
too. Aunt Alexandra, in the book To Kill a Mockingbird, does just this: We decided that it would be
best for you to have some feminine influence. It won t be many years, Jean Louise, before you become
interested in clothes and boys (Lee 170). Aunt Alexandra is a refined, polite, proper and put together
lady. Nevertheless, her values and beliefs do not exactly meet with Atticus values and beliefs. In other
words, Aunt Alexandra does not like how Atticus is raising Scout and Jem. As a result,

College Athletes Financial Compensation
Abstract The purpose of this research paper is to persuade a National Collegiate Athletic Association
(NCAA) panel, to include its president Mr. Mark Emmert to modify the current NCAA amateurism by
law 12.02.1 making it feasible for college athletes to receive financial compensation. The primary
issue with the current regulation is that because of the rule many student athletes are living in poverty
like conditions. The current by law is also affecting various aspects of domestic and International
students ability to continue to meet eligibility requirements. In the past ten years college athletics as a
whole has grown exponentially and it s clearly evident by the revenues the NCAA and it s schools are
generating. These additional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those that argue that college students are not receiving fair treatment would argue the point that these
amateur college athletes are not truly as fortunate as the NCAA portrays. There is no doubt that many
underprivileged young adults are indeed provided an opportunity to pursue a lifelong dream, yet it s
not as obvious when some of the statistics are examined. Though the NCAA and it s institutions of
higher learning do issue hundreds of thousands of scholarships throughout the year, they only make up
a minuet percentage of college students, in fact in the same in the same time period of 2003 to 2004,
the N.C.A.A. institutions gave athletic scholarships amounting to about 2 percent of the 6.4 million
athletes playing those sports, making that select group of athletes barely register statistically among
the 5.3 million students at N.C.A.A. colleges and universities (New York Times, n.d.). If the intent is
to provide more opportunities to these underprivileged young adults then we all have a moral
obligation to review not only how scholarships are awarded, but how many, as well as how they
benefit the student athletes throughout their college years.
The second aspect of the debate is one from an economic perspective, which is the

  • 2. Olivia E. Coolidge s Arachne In the story Arachne by Olivia E. Coolidge, there was a conflict between Arachne and the Goddess Athene. Arachne s arrogance was the cause of the conflict between the two of them. Arachne, a mortal, said that she was equal or even greater than the Goddess Athene at weaving. In the text it states With my own ten fingers I gained this skill, and by hard practice from early morning till night. I never had time to stand looking as you people do while another maiden worked. Nor if I had, would I give Athene credit because the girl was more skillful than I. As for Athene s weaving, how could there be finer cloth or more beautiful embroidery than mine? If Athene herself were to come down and compete with me, she could do no better than I. This angered Athene so she came down to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is easy to see that you were never good for anything in your day, or you would not come here in poverty and rags to gaze at my skill. If Athene resents my words, let her answer them herself. I have challenged her to a contest, but she, of course, will not come. It is easy for the gods to avoid matching their skill with that of men. So while in the the contest Arachne was given warnings from Athene but she still made something very insulting to the Gods. Athene insulted by her work decided to turn Arachne into a spider. In the text it states When the goddess saw this insult glowing in bright colors on Arachne s loom, she did not wait while the cloth was judged, but stepped forward, her grey eyes blazing with anger, and tore Arachne s work across. Then she struck Arachne across the face. Arachne stood there a moment, struggling with anger, fear, and pride. As a high school student who is engrossed deeply in physical geography, economics and investing, I decided to focus on natural resources, industries, and recreation development. The way I view Canadian Identity is largely founded on the economics of each province allowing millions of employees and provinces to be wealthy. The cornerstone of Canada s economy is the export of the natural resources. One of the provinces in Canada I am in love with is a prairie province, Saskatchewan. Agriculture and mining extensively dominate the provincial economy, and it is the largest exporter of potash and uranium in the world, making Saskatchewan one of the highest GDP leaders. ... Good Country People Hulga Character Analysis An Induced Handicap In Flannery O Conner s short story, Good Country People, the author uses various influences and instances in order to depict a handicapped woman, a woman who develops deeper problems induced by a singular static factor. O Conner provides insight regarding the handicaps in Hulga s life, such as her need to rebel, her guarded and insecure nature, and her condescending nature, all of which, are products of her ultimate handicap, her prosthetic leg. The rigid and explicit behavior associated with the rebellious nature that Hulga exhibits is likely a diversion technique that makes her feel secure and comfortable around others. Hulga also exhibits a guarded personality through her unwillingness to trust others, which is another support for her insecure nature. Her guarded personality shows when she begins to socialize with the bible salesman in a very impersonal manner: Joy had given him one look on being introduced to him and then throughout the meal has not glanced at him again (1346). Aside from the demonstration of insecurity through rebellion, explicit behavior, and a guarded personality, Hulga also finds comfort in her condescending nature that stems from her advanced philosophical education. Mrs. Hopewell, Hulga s mother, describes Hulga s education as a Ph.D. in philosophy (1344). Hulga uses her extensive educational background throughout the story as she condescends upon others, and imagines herself as superior: True genius can get an idea across even to an inferior mind (1349). Hulga s behavior of hiding behind condescending behavior and assumed superiority is another shield to aid in her handicap related to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Turbine Engines, Brayton Cycle And Thermodynamics Turbine Engines, Brayton Cycle and Thermodynamics I m writing this research paper for my Thermodynamics class with Professor Roh. I have a big interest in turbine gas engines and how they operate. My future goal within mechanical engineering is to learn how to maintain and design turbine gas engines. How do Turbine Gas Engines operate? I read this article at Wartsila website which enlightened me that Gas turbines are comprised of three primary sections mounted on the same shaft: the compressor, the combustor and the turbine. The compressor can be either axial flow or centrifugal flow. Axial flow compressors are more common in power generation because they have higher flow rates and efficiencies. The acceleration of the air through the rotating blades and diffusion by the stators increases the pressure and reduces the volume of the air. Although no heat is added, the compression of the air also causes the temperature to increase. The compressed air is mixed with fuel which ignites under constant pressure conditions and the hot combustion products (gases) are directed through the turbine where it expands rapidly and imparts rotation to the shaft. The turbine is also comprised of stages, each with a row of stationary blades (or nozzles) to direct the expanding gases followed by a row of moving blades. The rotation of the shaft drives the compressor to draw in and compress more air to sustain continuous combustion. The remaining shaft power is used to drive a generator ... • 6. Summary Of The Poem What A Jerk What a jerk? That s him pushing the stone up the hill, the jerk (34 37): Seems like Mrs. Sisyphus, throughout the poem, is attempting to rule out her workaholic husband of any chance to explain himself or tell his side of the story on why he works a lot. The reader may even argue that there may be some valid complaints that she states but she s not all that sympathetic. There s this sense of complete hatred for her husband as if he s really a horrendous person, but in reality she s alone and hurt rather than angry. Throughout the poem, she comes across as very evil, diabolical, but in a softer sense. Her words don t seem to stick since they re more of a soft insult rather than harsh and rough, as if a little girl did not get the candy she wants so she s ignoring her mother for not buying her it, but she s calling her mean and all this in the moment, but then gets sad because she didn t get that piece of candy. If you take a look at the beginning stanzas of the poem, she says in her own words, I call it a stone it s nearer the size of a kirk. When he first started out, it just used to irk, but now its incenses me, and him, the absolute berk. I could do something vicious to him with a dirk. (2 5). When reading this poem, the first thing you may realize is that this poem is written as a dramatic monologue, which is a literary technique used to speak to some kind of non present listener, and she puts this story together in a dramatic and shocking sort of way as if she ... Marshall started changes at his swearing in ceremony by wearing a plain black robe, instead of the more common scarlet ermine trimmed robes favored in the past, that were reminiscent of British judges. His reasoning was that in doing so it would instill a comradeship among the justices and give them time to discuss cases in private away from the court. His biggest change was to stop the tradition of each justice issuing a separate opinion. There are 10 carative factors each one involving a lived experience from all involved in the relationship, including the nurse. Watson described a need for transpersonal caring relationship. Educating nurses and nursing students to be prepared to care for patients as a whole, as well as educating nurses on the importance of being non judgmental, will make building a trusting relationship with the patient leisurelier. Nurses are taught earlier in nursing school the importance of caring for a patient and keeping their environments comfortable. Students and nurses who are taught to practice Watson s theory, gain education that is focused on caring as its center. It is not only important for the nurse to practice what they are taught but to also educate the patient. Watsons theory of caring applies to most nursing research. Almost all nursing research involves the caring model. A variety of research has been achieved with its focus on caring and nursing. Caring or not caring can have both positive and negative consequences. Research has proven that the biogentic level, the deepest level of a caring relationship, was in connection with true caring. This level of caring is related to the transpersonal caring theory. Research also shows that the level of non caring, known as the biocidic level, leads to annoyance, frustration, and non healing (Watson 2006). • 10. Why I Am A Cold Bowl Of Mac And Cheese As I sat down to eat the cold bowl of Mac and Cheese that I had brought with me, my emotions boiled over as a horror which I wish upon no one came forth. Infuriated, my rage took control of me as I jumped out of my chair, forcibly tossing the only source of food I had disposable to me in the garbage. This climatic moment was initiated upon my discovery that there was a broken microwave in the Sawyer lounge and Suffolk University had yet to replace it. Yes, it seems trivial, even downright ridiculous to get that pent up over a defunct microwave, but look at the scenario from my perspective. Imagine getting up at six in the morning for a nine A.M. class, anxious about all your assignments coming up, and having your last class finish at five forty five P.M. I had wondered how many other commuter students had to suffer the same fate as I had to that day. All you want is a warm energizing meal, but the broken microwave prevents you from obtaining it. See, what the incident stated above did is affirm my notion that Suffolk is not accommodating to its commuter students. Historically, Suffolk University was a commuter school. However, since 1996, Suffolk has opened four residence halls, the most recent being The Modern Theater Residence Hall, which opened in 2010. (Suffolk University) This has resulted in a shift in the school that saw 66.9% of the admitted freshmen class of 2015 live in the residence halls (Applications at el). The Influence Of WRKY Genedation Factors As we are trying to determine how FLS2 is regulated without the influence of WRKY transcription factors, we want to prevent the WRKY transcription factors from recognizing and binding to the promoter. Therefore, we mutate the W box promoter motif. Both forward sequences (+) have a point mutation at the second position, so when transcription factors are trying bind, they would not recognize the mutated sequence thus not binding. In addition, the third sequence ( ) is a reverse transcript and it is complementary to the second (+) strand. WRKY transcription factors are involved in regulating FLS2 gene expression. The FLS2 expression is under the spatiotemporal control as its transcriptional activation depends on ethylene signaling (EIN 3 and EIL1), which also involves the binding of transcription factors. Therefore, different stressors cause different bindings of the transcription factors and lead to a different level of gene expression in tissues. We could use CRISPR Cas 9 complex to determine whether WRKY75 transcription factor directly regulates FLS2 expression. First, we would use two sets of root samples, a control sample with regular a WRKY75 promoter, and an experimental sample that the WRKY74 promoter has been knocked out by CRISPR Cas 9 complex. Next, we looked up the WRKY75 promoter sequence in the NCBI database and created a guide RNA sequence from the DNA sequence of the particular site we are looking for to cleave. Then, this will allow the Cas9 to come, bind and cleave out the WRKY75 promoter. Once the WRKY75 promoter is being knocked out, transcription factors would not be able to bind and FLS2 gene expression would not be turned on in theory. After that, EMSA could be used to detect whether the WRK75 binds to the FLS2 promoter and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Europe has had incredible influence on Morocco and Northern Africa, and its strategic location between greater Africa and the Iberian Peninsula has shaped its history. To be a said, Christian , is not simply believing in God, but having a devoted relationship with him and living every aspect of life with the all omnipotent creator as the center. Throughout my life I have fallen short of these expectations again and again in a cycle we call, sin. However, God forgives this sin daily with such grace and mercy. I believe God will use my sin, my life, in ways that I can not even begin to fathom, to further his kingdom. This past summer I served as a counselor at a local christian camp. During my first week of counseling I met a boy named Blake. Blake was the sort of kid who walked into indoor registration with his shades on, sleeves rolled up and bandanas plastered on his arms and legs. The kid that everyone warned you about, the kid nobody wanted. I observed at Blake that first day and felt a sense of empathy and compassion. I remember seeing this kid at previous camps. The kid that came from a broken home, a rough neighbourhood or simply had a tough teacher. The one that everyone wanted to avoid, despite being in a Christian camp. As time passes and new innovations are created, so are new paths for collapse. However, the downfalls of the ancient civilizations are also applicable in today s society. With decades of archaeological and historical research, theories have arisen as to why these societies collapsed and what humans of today can do to avoid a similar fate. While many collapses are thought to have occurred from several factors compounding over many years, most can be attributed to three main issues: the environment, war, and trade. Environmental changes seem to have the quickest and most drastic affect on civilizations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most likely way that current society will collapse would be a large scale environmental change that affects a majority of the Earth. In the most dramatic case, if a climate changing event such as a volcanic eruption or a heat wave occurred, the effects would be catastrophic. If the event affected enough of the planet, there would be mass starvation that would eventually lead to the downfall of human civilization. Also, humans affecting the environment with global warming and using up natural resources such as oil and trees will create an uninhabitable planet. If the environmental change only affected a small region, other countries would provide aid and attempt to rebuild that society. If trade were to disintegrate globally, many societies would collapse due to their dependence on imported goods and the profit from exported items, similar to Pitcairn and Henderson. If trade from one country stopped, it would not have as much of an effect seeing as all of the countries connected and another trade system could be created. For example, if trade from a country that produces oil stops, many countries would suffer without fuel for a short while until another trade route from a different country began. Due to the economically interconnected nature of the world today, it is unlikely that a collapse would happen due to shifting trade. Another main factor of collapse is war and societies ending due to invasions. A modern day war could be taken far enough where entire cities are wiped out and civilizations destroyed. For example, if the War on Terror is continued for long enough, countless societies in West Asia could be demolished. Ultimately, any of the aforementioned changes could cause a collapse, it merely depends on the magnitude and severity of the event, and which places are afflicted. Other ... Right to Rise USA, a nonprofit Super PAC created by Jeb Bush is an instrumental organization aimed to fund Bush s campaign and staffers. According to USNews.com, Right to Rise USA is said to spend about 100 million dollars on the Jeb Bush 2016 presidential campaign. This Super PAC is the biggest vendor in size and scope, and is responsible for massive amounts of obscure spending. The Citizens United vs. FEC supreme court decision is the main culprit to this PAC s unrestricted contribution limits, leaving Bush with an unfair advantage. Even though the polls are not in favor of him, it is reported that Bush s budget can sustain him in the running until the end. • 31. How Do We Dependent On Technology As I said in my previous essay, not many people realize it, but the human race desperately depends on technology for existence. Although depending on things such as computers, cellular devices, and search engines comes with very helpful and developmental research, it has also come with many negative effects. Technology has literally affected all aspects of life for every living person. To the point where it has made people lazy, taken their jobs, and has even made people addicted to social networking. Some examples of problems are constant use of social media, texting and driving incidents, cyberbullying, and even cheating on tests or exams. I believe that we ve become evermore negatively dependent on technology because humans now feel the need to socialize and connect with one another more frequently than they did before the turn of the 21st century. I strongly believe that all the problems that I listed a bove do have a solution to them. Focusing on the technology that is used most commonly, which are laptops, computers, and cell phones, I would like to specifically write about the topic of using a cellular device while driving, and cyberbullying. The reason why I decided to use the term using a cellular device while driving is because nowadays people not only text and drive, but they also use social platforms such as instagram, snapchat, and even facebook. The increase in social media use also increases the rate of bullying that is done online. These two are the major causes of feeling the need to connect with one another. The constant texting and the boost of social media use. There are many ways that distracted driving can affect you. In the article How Far Does Your Vehicle Travel While Looking at Your Cell Phone, author Tony Summerville states that, Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. AT 55 mph, that s like driving the length of an entire football field, blindfolded. A lot can happen in those hundred yards that a person travels while they re distracted. The worst thing that could ever happen in the event of a car accident due to distracted driving would have to be death, or even a severe injury. If a person is lucky multitask without making mistake while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Ocean Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies A symbol is anything that represents an object, an idea, a character, an action, or an animal in the story. Many times, these symbols signify something conceptual, like a force of nature, a condition of the world, or an idea. In the book, Lord Of The Flies, there are many symbols that signify the beginning or end of something new in the story. For example, the island and the ocean, the water current flowing backwards, and the beast all symbolize a new change and realization to the story. The island and the ocean symbolize an uncharted, untouched area, the indefinite and endless nature of life that can change from calm to chaos in seconds, and, also, strength, tranquility, and stability. The island and the ocean symbolize both a paradise and also the destructive nature of humanity. The island can symbolize a Garden of Eden, a pristine and bountiful place where the boys can begin anew. In the beginning of the book, Jack says, we are going to have fun on this island (Golding 104). The boys really did think of this island as a paradise, or at least Jack did. However, much like the biblical Garden of Eden, paradise can be suddenly lost when the boys are enticed by evil. The advent of the boys pollutes the sanctity of the island, as did the advent of Satan and the eventual temptation of Eve and loss and innocence ( Lauryn Galloway ). The pristine paradise is set on fire by the boys and everything gets destroyed but luckily it saved them because a ship saw the smoke. The ocean can symbolize the incessant and endless nature of life but it also symbolizes becoming astray and then finding one s way through life. The ocean is a boundless space isolating the boys from all they once knew about the world. But after Simon dies and gets washed out into the sea, the ocean symbolizes all good getting washed away, getting replaced by evil. Simon becomes the good bygone and Jack becomes the evil washing over. But the island and the ocean aren t the only symbols in the book. The water current flowing backwards, that deceives many into thinking it is just a detail, actually symbolizes more. The water current flowing backwards can symbolize many things. It could be giving the subtle impression that civilization may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Consultant Chloe Mark 10/22/2014 CAT Professor Berk Assignment # 5 What caused the demise of the electric car? In the 1990s the electric car was never really alive In 1987 when the Sunraycer won, Roger Smith saw the potential for a commercial electric vehicle (EV); only 3 years later, GM announced the Impact prototype. CARB, emboldened by the seeming viability of EVs, quickly passed ZEV mandate. It seemed the EV was making rapid in roads. However, 13 years later ZEV mandate was reversed and nearly all electric cars produced were destroyed by their own manufacturers. This stark turn of events begs the question Who is to blame? When we go back over the facts, it becomes clear that ultimately limited and cost prohibitive technology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Who Killed the Electric Car focuses on ~50 enthusiasts there is no consistent evidence of high potential demand for the EV1. GM made a rational business decision to close down the EV1 At a price point of $50 60K with poorer features than traditional cars demand for the EV1 would be extremely low, and it is unclear whether the EV1 would have ever reached enough scale to be profitable. Given these conditions, it is not unreasonable that GM would discontinue the EV1. Other factors While the demise of the EV was largely a function of viable technology there are several other contextual elements worth noting. Firstly, the decline of oil prices in 1996 decreased the price of substitutes to the EVs and increased demand for traditional cars. In addition, the oil lobbyist s blocking of recharging infrastructure limited important complements for a viable EV market. Secondly, CARB s production requirements contingent upon demonstrated demand created a perverse incentive for car manufacturers to suppress demand for their vehicles if they believed that consumer demand (at a profitable price) would fall below CARB s mandated levels. The impact was that even if the EV was not viable at the time, manufacturers were encouraged to stop exploring improvements to make the EV viable in the future to avoid signaling a future demand to CARB. • 34. Women s Impact On Women Essay The 1800 s redefined who, what, and how women would continue to be represented in the United States. Prior to this era women s roles in America were very limited; women had to abide by laws such as coverture. Men were the dominating force in social events, political events and in the economy. Nonetheless, women continued to fight these injustices and set multiple milestones during the 1800 s and the 1900 s. Several significant people and movements would attribute to these noteworthy milestones that women would overcome. For the duration of this time women were not staying silent about the inequalities regarding women and African Americans in America. Women like Clarina Irene Howard Nichols took an early stance on the injustice women faced during this time, focusing on the Temperance Movement and later moving in the direction of Women s Suffrage as well as focusing on the injustice African Americans faced. In addition to Clarina Irene Howard Nichols, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott would continue to take a more radical stance and hold the first women s convention in Seneca Falls, New York. These women are predominating figures in the impending movement for women. Women s Suffrage and Temperance is often a bridge for the women s movement of the time. In addition to focusing on women s movements, these women were also movers and shakers in the anti slavery issues. These types of crusades empowered women to fight for the injustice they experienced in addition to fight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Baz Luhrmann s Interpretation of the Prologue Engages the Audience s Attention and Makes them Want to Watch the Rest of the Film How is it that after watching the opening sequence to Baz Luhrmann s Romeo and Juliet film (properly titled William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet) about twenty times, the exhilarating thrill I experience from it still has not faded out? To grab the attention of the viewers and keep their eyes glued to the screen as the movie starts, the director uses a variety of special techniques, also to make it clear to the audience that this film is a far cry from the original dullness associated with Shakespeare play recreations. Firstly, the range of music; the booming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the thought which Baz Luhrmann wants to put into the audiences mind for their first impression of not so fair Verona; so after the news report is told, the camera whizzes into the screen behind the news reader which displays a blown up petrol station, burning away as chaos fills the air. The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of the shocking city are presented, makes the seriousness and dramatic quality. The rapid montage of imagery adds to the rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police helicopter is shown hovering unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the helicopter, bird s eye view shots are taken with speed shots many long shots zooming into close ups as the panoramic view of the city is previewed. It is as if Verona is being shaken by the crime when the noisy helicopter makes the camera focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us police cars, people being chased and people being injured makes the upbeat anxiety more effective. Another aspect of the opening, which I found effective, is the voice over. Made to seem God like, it echoes the story in brief, in a somewhat worried and disappointed tone of voice. Chipotle Mexican Grill has been trying to recover from their e Coli outbreak in 2015 and planned on finally escaping the decline in 2017. However, things have not gone as the company planned this year, and now the company has begun to once again decline. Although the recent Hurricanes Irma and Harvey have not caused a large impact on the economy as a whole, they have caused a major decline in Chipotle s earnings in the recent third quarter, as 425 of their locations were in the path of either of the storms (Wiener Bronner, Danielle). Another negative factor that is affecting the company is skyrocketing prices of avocados. The price of the fruit is up by 125% since January. Two reasons behind this would be an unsatisfactory harvest and an increasingly high demand for avocados. One more factor behind the company s plummeting stock is a data security hack that allowed credit card information to be pilfered from customers in April 2017 (Gillespie, ... Stop giving people power to control your smile, your worth and your attitude. The one shot to live your life enjoyably, is to be able to break free from the control of others. But countless people find is tough to personally control and live their lives to the fullest. This does not just result in a change in personality, but a change in the society. When people allow themselves to be controlled by others, the consequences can be devastating. One way these controlling natures can result in a negative consequence is that people cannot display their true selves. The primary issue with the current regulation is that because of the rule many student athletes are living in poverty like conditions. Though the NCAA and it s institutions of higher learning do issue hundreds of thousands of scholarships throughout the year, they only make up a minuet percentage of college students, in fact in the same in the same time period of 2003 to 2004, the N.C.A.A. institutions gave athletic scholarships amounting to about 2 percent of the 6.4 million athletes playing those sports, making that select group of athletes barely register statistically among the 5.3 million students at N.C.A.A. colleges and universities (New York Times, n.d.).
