The Difference of North and South
Even though the North and the South origins were both from Europe, their customs and living
habits were different. The North and the South began to notice these differences as they broke away
from Britain in the Revolutionary War. The North and South emerged into two different regions,
due to their various differences. These differences included the geography, the economy, the social
and classification status, and transportation.
One of the most striking differences between the North and the South was the climate and
geography. The North s climate was full of warm summers and cold winters; the terrain was
rocky and hilly, which wasn t good for farming. But the North did have little farms. Most of the
forest was used for shipbuilding, and cities were used for trading centers. The rivers were fast
and shallow which made it hard to navigate. Also in the North people used waterpower to run
factories, because it was a cheap source of energy. The South was somewhat different; the climate
was generally warm and sunny. The summers were long and hot, and the winters were pretty mild.
Due to the South s climate they were able to grow different crops in large amounts, unlike the
North. The south had large farms, called plantations. In the South cities developed near rivers,
because of rich soil which made it easier for them to farm.
There were various economic differences between the North and South. In the south their economy
was based on agriculture. That s why they believed

Comparing Princess Mononoke And Disney Movies
They say:
When I first saw Princesses Mononoke at five, I didn t understand any conflict or meaning of the
film. Only the scene where the Forest Spirit is finding his head and killing all the living things on
earth stayed in my mind. I remember laying in my bed that night after watching the film thinking,
This movie is so scary... how nice will it be if this princess is a Disney princess. I have believed for
a long time that if Princess Mononoke was produced by Disney, the film will be so much more
successful.
I say
After becoming a young adult and rewatching Princess Mononoke again, my old thought of the
film, which was Princess Mononoke being produced by Disney will be more successful, has
twisted. The style of Studio Ghibli provided the movie the unique, exciting, and memorable
features. To be more specific, the fascinating and well thought storyline was the most outstanding
part of the film. How Hayao Miyazaki did not separate good and evil with a clear defined line;
illustrated a deeper environmentalist message than Disney films; created an open ending which
gives the audiences more space to imagine and contemplate, are all what made the film a big hit
during the 1990s.

There are no definite evil characters in Princess Mononoke. While Lady Eboshi kills and hunts
down the animals in the forest, she also stays loyal to the Iron Town and tries to give the citizens a
better quality of life. Additionally, when Nature is fighting the humans back, they themselves got
into an internal conflict and lost their unity. This feature makes the film more convincing and
relatable to audiences. In real life, people are not always bad or good. Humans reactions depend
on different situation. Comparing Princesses Mononoke (1997) to The Jungle Book (1967) by
Disney, both of them are telling a story that happened in the woods and the conflict between human
and nature, however, The Jungle Book has a clear line between the good and bad

How Did The Middle Class Affect 16th Century England
Even though English society was hierarchical, it was easy to move up or down from one
generation to the next. Most people got their status from birth and land ownership. England
changed a lot during the 16th century. There were several internal changes in England which
affected England s class system. The respect for the middle classgrew and the Gentry class grew.
These changes affected several lives during the 16th century. These classes include peasants, serfs,
farmers, craftsmen, knights, nobles, merchants, gentries, courtiers, nobles, and royalty.
During the sixteenth century, the King was at the top of the English social hierarchy. Royalty
included emperors, empresses, kings, and queens. They were very powerful and controlling. They

Yeomen were prosperous, independent farmers, and usually owned around 50 acres of land.
They didn t have a gentry status because they did manual labor. As stated in the text, But the next
moment he was himself disturbed by it, and showed discomposure; for this was the only service
he had been permitted to do with his own hands during the meal, and he did not doubt that he had
done a most improper and un princely thing. (page 31) Right before feeling uncomfortable, Tom
Canty had put several nuts into his pockets and quickly realized that the act wasn t prince like at
all. Tom realized that high class people don t do anything for themselves. This proves that farmers,
merchants, and craftsmen can t be part of the high class. Wealthy merchants and citizens of
England s large towns were at the same level with yeomen or gentlemen. The wealthiest and most
important merchants were London s international businessmen, who imported high value items
from Europe and other places. Below yeomen were husbandmen, farmers for themselves and
making enough to feed their family while selling some at the market. Husbandmen would be
forced to work for others during bad harvest years. They would have an income of around 3 euros
after paying all their expenses during good years. Below husbandmen were laborers and cottagers
because they had to work for others to get wages. Consequently, merchants, farmers, and craftsmen
were part of the second lowest

Ignacia In Beowulf
Once there was a female mortal named Ignacia who roamed freely in the vast forest near her
home. Being naughty and causing trouble with others intrigued her, she was always acting bad,
breaking the peace between everyone. No mortal wanted to make the mistake of making her
angry: one spark would set her temperamental attitude off wild. Aside from her personality,
Ignacia had a beautiful, colorful mixture of hair and a red complexity to her face, like the colors
of fire, that she dearly admired about herself. She had strong, long legs that gave great support to
stand her ground, like a tree trunk, while her hair swayed in the wind, like leaves falling to the
ground on a windy day. Overall, she was absolutely beautiful but flawed in her temperamental...

Ignacia knew she had to change but reluctantly agreed. From there on, Pazia and Ignacia became
good friends and worked on her temper. Staying away from other mortals helped, so they stayed
in the woods isolated from society and restored nature that Ignacia had damaged. Ignacia began
to be very fond of Pazia; she realized that peace was easier and a better lifestyle to live rather
than having short patience and being angry. Destrius, being busy with other things, had not
noticed Ignacia changing until it was too late. He became furious and approached her as she
was singing and gardening the plants. Why have you changed your behavior? I liked it the way
it was before, he persuasively said, hinting to revert her behavior back. Ignacia firmly replied
with, Well, hello. I am not interested in that old life; I love keeping peace and tending nature, as
she remembered the old times. Destrius, mad and jealous that Pazia had taken over, tried to
think of a way to change Ignacia back. He knew he would not be able to change her while alive, so
he killed Ignacia and turned her into a wildfire, destroying the surrounding area. Her body became
a tree, and her red orange hair resembled fire as it danced tree to

Beyond Fundamentalism
In the novel Beyond Fundamentalism: Confronting Religious Extremism in the Age of
Globalization, Reza Aslan argues that the war on terror is a cosmic war. Many people studying
the issue make the terrible mistake of overlooking the purpose of the radical jihadist groups located
in the Middle East, such as Al Qaedaand ISIS. Aslan states that although they present a frightening
image by hurting and killing infidels , one of their main purposes is to educate the world on their
religious values/goals and power. The leaders of these groups require no victory or prize to be
won, but only the symbolism that is learned from their extreme actions and sacrifices. The groups
justify their devastating choices by executing plans in the name of their god.... Show more content

Arguments have clearly been made to support and stand against that statement, but even after
reviewing the arguments with a refreshed glance at the issue I still agree with the statement of not
defining the war under cosmic means. The severity of this situation is beyond the ideas and values
of religion. Innocent people of both American and Middle Eastern countries are suffering
throughout the struggle of war. We cannot minimize these actions nor justify them in the name of
god, whom many will argue is not

Sherman Alexie Indian Identity
The novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, written by Sherman Alexie, enables
the reader to look into the life of Junior as he encounters situations that allow him to discover his
identity and self esteem. Identity and self esteem represented in the novel display how important
it is to be part of a community, providing a sense of belonging. Throughout the story, Junior
experiences circumstances where he faces and realizes his split personality of being Indian and
white at the same time. Sherman Alexie demonstrates this by saying, They call [Junior] an apple
because they think I m red on the outside and white on the inside (132). In addition, this describes
how Junior has to embrace being white at Reardan and he also has to embrace his Indian self back
on the reservation. An example is when Junior was determined to go to Reardan for a more
successful future. However, he is still not abandoning his culture and identity as an Indian.... Show

American immigrants. And to the tribe of basketball players (217). These quotes make the reader
feel inspired because many people can relate with Junior and take out a lesson in which everyone

Essay 12 Angry Men Analysis
12 Angry Men Analysis
12 Angry Men is a movie, directed by Sidney Lumet, about twelve jurors who are deliberating a
murder trial. An 18 year old has been accused of murdering his father and the jury has retired to
determine his fate. The jury performs a preliminary vote and the results came out to be eleven for
guilty and one, the architect played by Henry Fonda, for not guilty. The rest of the jurythen begins
to persuade the architect that the accused is actually guilty. Each member of the jury played a key
role in the development of the group and the task at hand. The foreman played a major task role
and was almost like a manager of the group. He didn t have much to contribute to the discussion of

He the low level manual labor worker who wasn t paid to think. Once he changed his vote he
began to defend the weaker members, who had switched to not guilty, from the angry father. The
seventh juror, the baseball fan, played a self centered role because he was more concerned about
the Yankees game than the trial. He was one of the more difficult jurors because he made
inappropriate remarks and jokes, he didn t contribute very much to the discussion, he insulted a
few of the other jurors, and he changed his vote without having a reason other than, I don t think
he s guilty. Henry Fonda s character was an architect and who played a task and maintenance
role. He was the first person to say not guilty and started the entire discussion which ultimately
made everyone change their vote to not guilty. The ninth juror, the wise elderly man, played a
maintenance role. At one point in the movie the architect decides that after a vote he would say
guilty if the rest of the jury still voted guilty. After the vote, the old man was the only person to
change to not guilty because he felt that standing alone isn t easy and he wanted to hear more
facts about the trial. The tenth juror, the garage owner, was a self centered bigot and seemed to
stick to the fact that the accused was guilty because of his race or social level. After a while it
seemed that the race of the accused was the only grounds that he had to argue

My Favorite Part Of Football
My favorite part of football is when they hit each other and as a child growing up that is what I
got excited about and enjoyed watching. However after watching this documentary I really
started to think about the hazards and potential risks that the players face to entertain and
participate in. There was clear evidence of a sub optimal study performed by the NFL by doctors
of limited experience and published finding of bias and inaccurate information. The NFL
executives that knowingly withheld knowledge about the potential risks the players faced from
players should be held accountable for their actions. Dr. Bennet Omalu, forensic pathologist and
Dr. Ann McKee, director of neuropathology at the Veterans Administration in Massachusetts,
discovered and headed scientific studies that publicized the unexpected findings of a potential
link between concussions that NFL football players suffer from direct impacts on the field to a
disease of the brain that causes depression, personality changes, and suicidal tendencies. Chronic
traumatic encephalopathy or CTE is discovered and studied by these professionals, and published
for peer review among colleagues, finding that suggest that there is a direct link to the
concussions that are suffered by players to the incidence of suffering from CTE and its symptoms.
According to findings in the autopsies of Mike Webster and Terry Long, two former Pittsburg
Steelers NFL players performed by Dr. Omalu while employed as a medical

Advantages Of Qualitative Method
According to Patton, (2001) qualitative method enables the researcher to have a good
knowledge of certain aspects of social life and as such try to make meaning out of it. Data from
qualitative methods comes in form of words which can be recorded and later transcribed, thus
making it easy for the researcher to re frame, re analyze and check the responses at a later time.
Locke, et al., (2000) as cited in Steele, (2008) argued that one of the goals of qualitative method is
to get the understanding about peoples idea of a particular phenomenon. One merit of the method is
that it helps the researcher to fathom the true experience of many people about a concept or a
happening under investigation which other methods may not decipher (Creswell, 1997).... Show

Another advantage of qualitative methods is the use of the open ended questions for collecting the
data. This form of questions allows the participants to answer the questions in a different way by
dictating individual responses which makes the method different from other methods of research.
The method also allows the researcher to gather essential information directly from the affected
participants which he/she may not have known about. More generally, the method can be said to
provide an avenue for respondents to talk freely without necessarily been restricted to certain
answers. Thus, qualitative methods allows the researcher to carefully engage with the respondent,
thus creating a good interactive platform through which the researcher is able to ask questions such
as what happened?, what is your experience?, how do you feel it can be improved? etc. The
method especially the face to face interview technique or observation could provide information
necessary for a further research where little or nothing is known about the topic in question (Patton,

The Conflict Of World Hunger
What is one of the major ethical food issue on modern American society? The simple answer is
the conflict of world hunger. Throughout the ages, this has been a problem looming over the
world. Millions have perished from this problem from all over the globe. It is a problem in large
cities to the vast deserts. World hunger can be solved however, mankind chooses not to solve it.
The lack of investment is also one of the many factors that contributes to world hunger. The market
even has a way of taking the viability of food away. Everyday citizens even play a large role in
world hunger. World hunger is caused by food being sold in select markets, lack of investment in
agriculture, and the constant waste of food.
The market of where a product is sold is one of the causes of food being unavailable due to
market demands. According to Frances LappГЁ, environmental activist, The hundreds of millions
of people who go hungry cannot create a sufficient market demand for the fruits of the Earth
(LappГЁ 294). Experts agree that there is a strong correlation between world hunger and money.
According to other experts, the current way of discussing and managing the world economy is not
fit for purpose; it s failing hundreds of millions now and is set to fail billions in the coming
decades (Hobbs). Due to capitalism money is extremely important in today s society because
without money third world consumers cannot purchase adequate food. First world consumers create

Abstract
Writing has always been regarded as playing a prominent role in learning a second language. The
purpose of this research was to investigate the difficulties and challenges facing students in writing
and spelling, the factors causing these difficulties and how to overcome these challenges.
A total of 30 female students from three different female secondary schools in the Al Kharj city
participated in the study, and 6 teachers teaching the English language for secondary levels with
different teaching experiences. Questionnaires were used to gather information from the
participants. The overall results demonstrated the students negative views towards writing. The
findings revealed that students have problems in writing, especially in language use (grammar).
The major findings demonstrated students awareness of the importance of writing and their needs
to develop the skill of writing. The study suggests some practical methods in order to cope with
writing difficulties.

Music Techniques In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho
Psycho
Alfred Hitchcock s iconic film Psycho is one of the best horror movies in history. It is famous as
well as notorious even with today s high standards. The movie is about a secretary, Marion, who
embezzles $40,00 from a client of her employer. She goes on the run and ends up staying at a very
remote and creepy hotel. There she meets Norman Bates, a man who seems to be under a lot of
control of his mother. Marion ends up being murdered in the famous shower scene by Norman s
mother, however, at the end we end up finding out that the mother was actually Norman who had
developed a double personality of his mother. While this movie s story and plot are outstanding
to stay the least, the movie s success also had a lot to do with the sound used within in key
scenes. The sound also helped play a major role in the movie s themes, which I believe to fear, and
guilt.
I think that the music used in throughout the film corresponded with the theme overall in some
way, shape or form. Even at the very beginning of the film, before any scenes take place, we are
given suspenseful music. This is used to convey the over arching theme to the audience right away
to make it obvious that this is the way that they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She thinks that someone could possibly be on to her and following her. As the audience sees this
happening the music starts to become more and more intense to raise the tension within the scene.
To do this they used quick sharper notes and sudden changes in pace and key of the music.
However, once the car takes a different turn, the music stops and the audience is relieved. Another
example, is again when Marion is driving, she is remembering back to the crime that she
committed. In this scene it is obvious that Marion feels very guilty, and the music playing in the
background really helps incorporate that seem tone to the audience

Civil Disobedience And The Civil Rights Movement
During the Civil Rights Movement, King and many of his followers and fellow activists deeply
followed the path of non violent protest, otherwise known as civil disobedience. After being
arrested during the 1963 Birmingham Campaign, King received a series of critiques from fellow
clergymen stating their disapproval of his actions. Of course, King addressed a letter, now more
commonly known as Letter from Birmingham Jail, to his critics as well as the nation in order to
defend his ideology. Though King does a great job at explaining to his audience the essence of his
ideology, he fails to address the practicality or universality of civil disobedience. Civil disobedience
may have been a powerful tool for the Civil Rights Movement but it seems the political
atmosphere of the United States was able to make its success possible. The United States is
considered a modern democratic state and its constitution limits the power of the government to a
degree. In this political atmosphere, civil disobedience and other forms of protest would be the
ideal. At most, the government would only be able to imprison an individual and with reasonable
punishment, the most probable sentence would be only a few months to a year or two. Now,
suppose a person living during the early era of the Tokugawa Shogunatewanted a change and does
so through civil disobedience. Let us say that this person is a daimyo or lord who disagrees with
the Shogun and directly disobeys an order. First

The Importance Of Web Application
A single page application (SPA) as name suggest is a web application which will fit in a single
web page and acts as a source for rest of the application. Various end user interactions are possible
via HTML, CSS, JavaScript. For most of the part, development happens on the front end in
comparison to traditional web applications which depend heavily on server side interactions to
reload new web pagecontent. SPA just keeps all the data and the associated business logic in the
front end i.e. it works with local storage of browser. Server side interactions are somewhat limited.
These interactions are performed for requesting any information via API s present in server side of

Web applications use HTTP protocol in order to communicate between client and server. It uses
different methods such as GET, POST, PUT, DELETE. These request methods are important
concepts to be understood as they allow application to request resources from client. These methods
are discussed briefly below:
a.GET
In GET method application request resources using Request URI. URI is a combination of URL
i.e. Uniform Resource Locator URN i.e. Uniform Resource Name.
b.POST
In POST method, data is enclosed in message body and server handles request based on Request
URI.
c.PUT
PUT method stores the data in the message body of Request URI.
d.DELETE
DELETE method deletes a resource from server identified by Request URI. 2. DOM
The Document Object Model (DOM) is an interface between HTML and XML documents. It
consists of nodes and objects arranged in logical sequence to form any HTML webpage. It defines
parent child relationship between various elements. It also provides access to Javascript for
manipulating the document structure and content.

Pros And Cons Of Job Application Essay

The Principles of Scientific Management and its Applications in Modern Day Organizations
Introduction
Managers have been continuously trying to figure out the best way to manage the workplace since
the start of the industrial revolution. The goal is to maximize production output and minimize cost
therefore getting maximized profit while still keeping workers happy and motivated. Different
methods have been introduced and tested. But perhaps one of the most influential and popular

This would make the production a lot quicker as the tasks are going to be less complicated. For
example, in a company that produces chair, the task in making the chair would be separated to,
cutting the parts off wood, assembly of the parts, paint and finishing touches, but even this can still
be separated into smaller components. This will result in reducing the skill required for a task
The second principal is separate planning and doing. At the time, workers do all the planning and
doing, in taylorism, the planning are taken from the workers and given to managers. This would
make planning more optimal; standardizing every task. Before, workers would do his job with
the way that he thinks is best, without or with only little help from the management. Now, the
managers bear new duties, which are; first is developing a science in a man s work for each
element, second is to select the workmen in a scientific way and the train and develop them, third
is cooperating with the men to insure that all the work are being done according to the principles
of science that was developed, and the fourth is the responsibility of the workers and the managers
are now divided almost equally.
The third is the separation of direct and indirect labour. The skilled workers (direct labour) are
removed of all preparations and servicing tasks, and instead performed by unskilled and cheaper
labour (indirect labour). Because of the first principle, which is maximum

Lab Report On Chemical Weathering
Jesus Chavez
Chemical Weathering
Background Information:
First of all chemical weathering is when there is rainwater that is able to react with mineral
grains in rocks to form new minerals and also soluble salts. This type of reaction would usually
occur when the water is slightly acidic. For this reaction to occur it needs water and would occur
more rapidly at higher temperatures for example damp and warm climates would be the best for
this reaction to occur. Chemical weathering usually happens more often in the spring because this
is when it is more humid and hot outside and that is what chemical weathering needs for it to occur
and also when it is usually hot or humid there will also be water.
Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to simulate the effects of slightly acidic rainwater on rocks and
minerals.
Hypothesis: If the level of acidity rises of the solution being placed on the rock or mineral then a
greater amount of dissolving will happen because of more acidic solution will destroy more
chemical bonds in the rock/mineral.
Procedure:
Get a scale and record the initial mass of the limestone chips
Get 5 50mL beakers and fill the first one with 30 mL of water
Fill the second beaker with 30 mL of hydrochloric acid (strength:1 M)
Fill the third beaker with 30 mL of hydrochloric acid (strength:2 M)

Shadowing In High School
The first time I was first exposed to the overwhelming benefits of Optometric medicine was when I
was 17 years old. It was the summer of 2011 and I was going to be a senior in high school. I
decided to shadow my Optometrist, Dr. Lobe, for a senior project. Before shadowing, I knew that
the Optometrist was a person I went once a year to get my eyes checked. I loved seeing my eye
doctor and getting my eyes dilated, I would go back to school bragging to all my friends and
educating them about why my pupils were dilated and the benefits of seeing an Optometrist.
During the 40 hours I spent shadowing, my younger sister, Madison, who was 12 at the time,
was seeing Dr. Lobe for accommodation problems. She had just started middle school and was
doing poorly on the standardized tests in her classes. While on a routine eye exam, Dr. Lobe
discovered that she was having difficulties focusing on small print. That summer I spend
shadowing, I worked both in the office and at home with Madison. I helped her train and strengthen
her eye muscles with the exercises Dr. Lobe prescribed to her.... Show more content on

Many of us compare courts with punishment, but what if there was a court that did the opposite?
When I was starting my research on the different courts we have here in Florida, I came across
Drug Courts. The more I read up on drug courts, the more I became fascinated and intrigued. Drug
courts do not aim to PUNISH , but yet to provide treatment to drug abusers. This kind of court

Also because drug courts are 6 times more likely to keep the offender in the treatment program if
they need more help to get better .According to the National Association of Drug Professionals
statistics proved that 75 % of graduates become and remain arrest free for at least two years after
leaving the program. Another neat finding was that individuals that have attended drug court have
helped reduce the amount of crime by as much as 45% more than the common prison time
punishment. As per our text book researchers noticed that there was a 33% reduction in rearrests
rates for drug court graduates. According to New York times the annual average amount a
taxpayer pays to keep an inmate locked up can range anywhere between $31 to $60 thousand
dollars without drug court, as opposed to paying $2 to $5 thousand dollars by allowing these drug
abusers to go through the drug court system. So as you can see, drug courts are beneficial all
around. Drug courts saves time and money that could be used in more serious areas meanwhile
help an addict drop their addiction. According to the National Drug Court Resource Center there are
2,966 operating drug courts in the United States. Of those drug courts there are 1,538 Adult drug

Cupping At The Rio Olympics 2016
Cupping has recently made headlines at the Rio Olympics 2016 when Michael Phelps, and
several Olympians have been spotted rocking huge round purple bruises in their backs. Sadly,
these bruises didn t come from extreme BDSM play (though that would ve been a much better
story to tell) but rather came from another ancient therapy known as cupping. Cupping is an
ancient therapy mostly used in Middle Eastern and Asian countries. The therapy involves putting
multiple warm round suction cups in your back targeting the sore parts of your body. This process
is believed to stimulate muscles and blood flow. Back in the day, cupping therapy has been used to
cure all kinds of ailments including shingles, facial paralysis, and even acne. A 2015 study (Lauche
et al., 2015) examined whether cupping worked better than a sham controlled treatment for patients
suffering fibromyalgia, a chronic disorder known to cause widespread pain, muscle stiffness, and
even depression. For this study, participants were put in one of three conditions (k=3): Cupping
therapy, sham cupping therapy, or the usual care condition. Those in cupping therapy and sham
cupping therapy condition received the treatment 2 5x a week. Conversely, those in sham cupping
therapy was administered using cupping glass with a hole on top which negates the pressure
created by the real cupping method. Subjects were blind in this study and not aware of any sham
treatment. They were told they would receive either traditional or

How Is Diction Used In Edgar Allan Poe s Farewell To A...
The poem is likely about bells. In the first section, there are sleighs decorated with silver bells,
which ring merrily in the winter night. The second scene takes place in a wedding, during which
golden bells ring. The third section introduces itself with brazen alarm bells clanging as a fire
wreaks havoc in the area, while the last section concludes itself with iron bells and a funeral to
address the dead. The speaker is a person, and is likely an observer. Poe uses situational irony in
section two to disguise the true horror that the poem holds, giving the later sections greater
influence. During the wedding, the speaker observes that the radiant sound of the golden bells

This is portrayed by the nighttime setting and the shakiness of the seemingly cheerful terms, such

half of the poem, the tone becomes openly dark. The speaker probably sees this poem and its four
sections as stages in life, which quickly dive from a bright atmosphere to a downright distressing
one. Together, they represent the idea that happiness is

heterosexist bias in social welfare policy frameworks on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender

Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA), the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), federal

key motivation(s) behind and design of public policy frameworks in the United States. By
institutionalized heterosexuality I am referring to the set of ideas, institutions and relationships that
make the heterosexual family the societal norm, while rendering homosexual/queer families
abnormal or deviant (Ingraham 1999). My queer analysis of social welfare involves examining
how sexuality and gender can be rethought and reorganized in economic and social policy
frameworks, theories and practices. Throughout the article I examine how heterosexuality is
assumed to be the natural basis for defining the family, and by extension, society, both explicitly
(by excluding LGBT people from the analysis and by stigmatizing certain individuals as non

Using Virtual Reconstruction Methods And The Technologies
Abstract In my art history class, we studied Rome Reborn, a 3D digital model of illustrating the
urban development of ancient Rome. I thought it could be tied nicely into our understanding new
media, more specifically how the use of virtual reconstruction methods and the technologies are
cultural and historical customs. A virtual reconstruction, as a simulation, could be seen as
accurately imitating the past and it may also be comprehended as a model constituting a
hyperreality. These two perspectives are regarded as opposite ends of a spectrum in which the
comprehension of a simulation sways due to the embedded conventions of realism. While not

Rome Reborn (RR) s objective is to create scientific 3D digital models that illustrate the
development of the city of Rome from the first settlement in the late Bronze Ages to the dramatic
depopulation of the city in the early middle Ages ca. 552 AD (Frischer, 2) However, the project
team started modeling at the moment of 320 AD because at that time Rome is considered to be at
the height of its urban development. Since 2007, the project team of RR has been releasing and
distributing images and videos of the virtual reconstruction on the web for public viewing. After all,
a goal of archaeology is to present their interpretations of the ancient remains. According to Frischer,
the videos present the current stage of the virtual reconstruction of ancient Rome s urban
development in 320 AD, even including animations as casual as civilians strolling through
buildings to something as exciting as gladiators fighting at the Coliseum. Every time a new walk
through is released, it results in numerous and mainly encouraging, comments from the public; This

The Embarrassing Moment Of A Friend Of Mine
I remember the embarrassing moment a friend of mine went through in class a few years ago,
when she had organized some chronological images on the wall. The instructor completely tore
her work apart because of her way of organization. Now in the world of design, most teachers get
very upset when the work is hung crocked on the wall. But this was not the case with my friend.
Her work was simply torn apart because of the direction she hung her pictures. Now most people
in class, including the teacher and even herself weren t aware of the fact that she simply did that
because she came from a middle eastern country where everything is organized from right to left.
But I was well familiar with this problem. In fact, I grew up learning three languages at the same
time in school. At age seven, I was learning to read and write in Persian, Assyrian, and English. In
the beginning, it would take me a minute to remember which way to start from when writing an
essay. For those of you who might not be familiar with these languages, Persian and Assyrian start
from the right side of the line moving to the left and eventually to the bottom of the page. The
numeric characters however, start from the left, and so does English. All these rights and lefts
confused me very much, and yet, when I found out that some Asian languages had a top to bottom
directionality, my mind was blown away. These conflicts made me start thinking about how the
world might seem different to an English speaker than

Many high school students succeed with a little leniency through their four years. The transfer from

Often students take high school for granted; consequently it shows when they reach college. For
example, in high school, teachers may accept late work, tardiness, and continuous inappropriate
behavior. The college classes that they will have to face will not tolerate such things as this.
Preparing for the work load and lifestyle is the two most important objectives to grasp early.
Furthermore, many people want to progress in their work, some simply want to gain in depth
education on the particular field they want to achieve. However, individual s bosses do not
always understand. Having a job while in college is a huge demand. Depending on whether
students have families or not will put them in a tight position. Ultimately the demand for both
will result in them dropping out of college. Mark Kantrowitz says, Many students who drop out
of college has to work while enrolled in college (Why Do Students Drop out of College

and their families and go to college at the same time (Why Do Students Drop out of College

desired accomplishments of the mother are not greater than the needs of her children. School work
and the work one puts into he/she s job alone are hard to manage. Having to

It is important to not provide additional verbal instruction between the staircase steps because the
students are English learners who may not understand the various vocabulary words used while
giving the extra instructions. If more explanation is given it can increase the difficulty for Els
because it imposes additional language demands and it can distract them from the phonological
focus that they are supposed to be learning (Gerbert etal 2006). It is hard enough for them to
understand what is being ask of them and giving them extra instructions will just confuse them. It
is important to use rapid pace, explicit and concise questions, and to use enthusiastic praise
immediately after a child responds because the students who are struggling are falling behind
their peers, using a fast paced can lead them to catch up within a short time frame. By using a fast
pace approach students have less time of being distracted, it keeps them focus on the material. To
be explicit and concise the teacher fist needs to model the activity he/she wants the students to do,
for struggling readers they need to be taught first of what they need to do to learn the material
(Richards Leafstedt 2009). By demonstrating to the students what the teacher is asking for they get
an idea of what is expected from them. Once the teacher demonstrates the correct way to do it,

So it is important to be direct and solid with your statements when you tell stories and give
instructions. All of Randy s sorties and jokes were easy to understand and direct. Something that
Pausch did that was very creative was his use of foreshadowing. The photo of him and his
siblings on the Alice ride at Disney as a child connected well with the program he designed later
in life as a professor. Furthermore, he made that it apparent to his audience that may not have
originally seen the connection by stating it was a foreshadowing moment. By leaving the story
open ended until a later time in his lecture, he captured the interest of people who didn t know
him prior by intriguing them with a mystery. Then to people who did understand, it was a fun
and heartwarming connection. The point of using foreshadowing and other organization
techniques is to keep the brain occupied and attentive. Pausch does an excellent job of this.
Despite Pausch s tragic diagnosis, the man stands strong with a positive outlook on life. His
ability to be realistic about his condition commands respect while his lightheartedness gives
shows us that he is at peace with his fate. Pausch involves the audience, speaking to them directly
as if he is simply in an extensively long conversation. His jokes are sweet and good hearted. Some

Roald Dahl s Use Of Foreshadowing
Landlady
Who knew that a business trip (that should have only lasted for a few days) could have such a
disastrous ending. It started out normally as a young man by the name of Billy Weaver entered
the city of Bath, but as he poked his nose around a bit too much, he was never heard from again.
Roald Dahl s twisted story The LandLady is not your average story. We have to infer the ending of
the story but Dahl does leave small hints to tell us what were the Landlady s intentions. Even
though we have to assume what happens at the end, it s clear that the genre is interchangeable
between thriller and mystery. The story is about a disturbed old lady that lures unsuspecting young
men to their death. The appropriate theme for this story should be if you choose to ignore your
instincts, it can have an unfortunate outcome. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The LandLady supports this claim; the story shows an old woman that wasn t visited very much
and due to this, she went psychopathic. Roald Dahl shows us that loneliness can consume
anyone regardless of the gender and age; like when she started doing unspeakable things just to
get company. Even though she was alone this doesn t give her a reason for taking the lives of
young men, but loneliness took over her mind so she couldn t stop. Billy started to stereotype
the old lady which lead him to keep his guard down. He did not consider his instincts at all so the
end result was an unfortunate outcome for him. We know that this story doesn t have a Disney
ending because of this very clever hint that Roald Dahl has left for us. This is near the
denouement of the story when Billy said, The tea tasted faintly of bitter almonds and he didn t
much care for it. This quote shows us that if you neglect your sixth sense (your instincts) you could

Comparing Tadeusz Borowski s Tone, Voice And Creative
The will to live and survive is a very basic drive in humans. When people are stripped of their
freedom and their lives are threatened, their instinct is to find some way to stay alive physically
and to cope mentally. During the Holocaust, relieved to be alive and in fear of the death around
them, many prisoners made an amorality of choices to survive and so these prisoners became
implicated in the system of torture and killing themselves. This is an identity given to them not
only by the prisoners who are subject to their mistreatment and punishment, but also by the Nazi
SS men who use freedom from death as leverage to help in managing other prisoners. Other than
the prisoners who they managed and repressed, the soldiers were the only social, emotional and
psychological contact these prisoners had. Unconsciously, these prisoners began to adopt some of
the behavior and attitudes of the Nazi SS men. They became numb, and detached from the people
suffering around them. In this essay I am going to compare Tadeusz Borowski s tone, voice and
creative narrative in, This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentleman, with Ruth Franklin s findings
from her investigation of his work, in her book, A Thousand Darknesses: Lies and Truth in the
HolocaustFiction.
Borowski, a Polish political prisoner, begins by confessing his role in the suffering others endured
within the camps and upon arriving. Borowski allows readers to witness the fruits of his
camaraderie with Kommandos and also the

Gender Roles And Expectations In The Birthmark
One of the most striking aspects of the 19th century is the distinctive use of gender roles and
expectations. Specifically, these aspects are provided strongly in the The Birthmark by Nathaniel
Hawthorne, a short story that demonstrates the 19th century couple, Aylmer and Georgiana, who
are faced with the predicament of an imperfection taking the shape of a birthmark upon Georgina
s cheek. By 19th century standards, Georgiana is successful at fulfilling the role of a wife. What
does the lifestyle of a 19th century wife consist of? It is thought by Christopher Sallus that men
and women live their lives in different social spheres (Sallus). As a result, proper men s lives
consisted of factory work, attending public events, and large amounts

Internet Helps Women Entrepreneurs Overcome Hurdles
http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/tipsforsmallbusiness/internet helps women
entrepreneurs overcome hurdles.html
The Internet may well be the best tool for women entrepreneurs as they seek increased
opportunities, female mentorship, start up capital, and perhaps even a way, if it exists, to let go of
any mom guilt. From entrepreneurial websites designed just for women to crowdfunding and
online based small business financing, the Internet offers business oriented women a wide array of
start up opportunities.
Tamara Monosoff, a social entrepreneur and the owner of TamaraMonosoff.com, recalls when in
2003 she was ready to launch her own business, she found next to nothing online about launching a
new start up as a mom.

alone, women owned companies grew by 68 percent at a time when all businesses grew by only 47
percent, according to 2014 data published by Womenable and American Express OPEN.
And according to a Dell survey, the U.S. topped a list of 30 countries as the best for women
entrepreneurs followed next in line by Australia, Sweden and France. However, these survey results
showed that 75 percent of these countries could do more to support female business leaders.
Challenges that women face include male dominated industries, limited access to capital, and less
than stellar women s rights issues.
In almost half of the surveyed countries, 50 percent of the female population are described as
unbanked, meaning that a significant disparity exists between the number of men and women who
have bank accounts.
According to Business News Daily, other hurdles facing women entrepreneurs include lack of
funding from venture capitalist firms, balancing work and family life, and finding like minded
women in the business world to provide support and mentorship. A recent study from the Kauffman
Foundation shows that the lack of available advisors tops the list of challenges for female
entrepreneurs.
Limitations also arise from gender stereotype. A recent study from the University of California,
Santa Barbara, suggests that people generally regard female entrepreneurs as less competent and
their businesses less worthy of investment. And, because men lead many venture capitalist firms,

The Central Concern Of The National Curriculum
The central concern that this case study seeks to address, is whether or not play should continue to
be influential in the acquisition of language with regards to readiness to learn within the National
curriculum. This emotive subject was found by the researcher to be ever present when providing
for needs of the child with SEN and EAL within year one, finding the restriction to movement and
space detrimental to learning. Roberts Holmes (2012) concurs this highlighting the conflict of
interests between the EYFS and the National Curriculum where play based learning is very much
decreased. In addition Tickell (2011) shares concerns about the disconnect between the EYFS and
the National Curriculum recommending a smoother transition between the two. Brock (2009)
confirms this by speaking of the need for the transition to be more fluent by teacher through a
more play based curriculum. However such planning is found by McInnes et al (2011) to be
heavily influenced by the predisposed understanding and perceptions of the individual teacher.
Therefore an analysis of such thoughts and perceptions towards play within year one, will also be
examined/evaluated throughout the research. The research itself will take place within two schools
which have been chosen from within similar socioeconomic disadvantaged areas of Stoke on Trent
(DPH Annual report 2011). The researcher, due to work constraints, considered it unfeasible to
involve all seventy primary schools within this locality.

Transport By Bicycle May Seem To Be A Thing Of The Past
Transport by bicycle may seem to be a thing of the past but benefits associated with the trend
continue to give hope to those who see it as a means of daily transport. In the United states,
majority of the population consider cycling as a means of recreation and for leisure; and so most
people don t consider bicycles as a mode of transportation. Cyclingis for everyone of all shapes,
sizes, and age. Over the years, America has learned to depend solely on cars and trucks, which
operate on fossil fuel for transportation needs. This credence generally contributes to air pollution
which has negative consequences on health (Srinivasan, O Fallon, Dearry, 2003). The elderly,
children, individuals with hypersensitive airway diseases, and even... Show more content on

Physical inactivity has been known to result in health consequences like obesity and heart
diseases. 70%of US health costs are due to obesity associated diseases (Levine, 2011). Coronary
artery disease is the most common type of heart disease estimated to killing about 385,000 people
in the America annually. Coronary Artery Disease statistically, is the most prevalent cause of death
in American for both men and women, causing 600,000 deaths annually, which comes to about 1
in every 4 deaths, males females. The estimated economic cost of Coronary artery disease in the
United States is $109 billion per annum. Which will also include costs of medications, ER
admissions and healthcare services (Cassar, Gersh, Holmes, Rihal, 2009).
Bicycling can help profit the same betterment in physical performance as other specific training
programs, and cycling at a proportionally low intensity for just 30 minutes a day and at least 3
times weekly can increase life expectancy by several years (Hendriksen, Zuiderveld, Kemper,
Bezemer, 2000). Although positive health results cannot be attributed to biking alone,
notwithstanding, the benefits of amalgamating exercise and physical activity into one s day to day
lifestyle is incontrovertible. Exercising has been linked to psychological health and happiness. A
study revealed that people who exercise have an overall happier attitude both psychologically, and
behaviorally by using

Shutter Island Theory Essays
A Shutter of Surprise
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio teamed up in 2006 to bring the world the organized
crime masterpiece, The Departed. The film was a huge success and swept the major awards at the
Oscars that year, bring home such prizes as best picture and best director. The win cemented
Scorsese as the greatest living filmmaker and he finally got the respect he deserves from the
Academy. DiCaprio is one of the best actors of his generation. Titanic, The Aviator, and The
Departed areall the evidence needed to securely place him in the upper pantheon of great actors.

The script is a very powerful character study exploring what it means to be insane and
unraveling our very concepts of reality. Shutter Island is absolutely gorgeous. The film is
definitely Scorsese s most visually rich work since Raging Bull. The cinematography perfectly
mirrors the tone of the story and is one of the strongest points of the film. The establishing shots
are breath taking. They create of the feeling of grander and adventure with an undertone of
mystery and the unknown. The environment Scorsese creates makes the viewer s skin crawl as
effectively as fingernails on the chalkboard. The score perfectly translates what is going on and
further engraves the overall emotion of mystery and uncertainty into the audiences souls. The
dream and hallucination sequences are a treat to the eyes and are some of the most striking every
put on celluloid. Most of the time when a film tries to do one of these scenes they appear poorly
executed and take away from the story. That is not the case with Shutter Island as theses scenes
provide a great story telling technique. They create a haunting feeling that mirrored to the suspense
in reality.
Where Scorsese falters is in the transition between reality and the nightmare world only found in
Teddy s psyche. The switches feel very clunky at times and bring the effect down. The audience
can almost always tell what is real and what is a nightmare. If the director could have created

History of Film
Plays and dances had elements common to films scripts, sets, lighting, costumes, production,
direction, actors, audiences, storyboards, and scores. They preceded film by thousands of years.
Much terminology later used in film theory and criticism applied, such as mise en scГЁne.
Moving visual images and sounds were not recorded for replaying as in film.
The camera obscura was pioneered by Alhazen in his Book of Optics (1021),[2][3][4] and was
later perfected near the year 1600 by Giambattista della Porta. Light is inverted through a small
hole or lens from outside, and projected onto a surface or screen, creating a projected moving
image, indistinguishable from a projected high quality film to an audience, but it is not preserved in

After this date, the Edison company developed its own form of projector, as did various other
inventors. Some of these used different film widths and projection speeds, but after a few years the
35 mm wide Edison film, and the 16 frames per second projection speed of the LumiГЁre
CinГ©matographe became standard. The other important American competitor was the American
Mutoscope Biograph Company, which used a new camera designed by Dickson after he left the
Edison company. [8]
At the Chicago 1893 World s Columbian Exposition, Muybridge gave a series of lectures on the
Science of Animal Locomotion in the Zoopraxographical Hall, built specially for that purpose in
the Midway Plaisance arm of the exposition. He used his zoopraxiscope to show his moving

William Kennedy Laurie Dickson, chief engineer with the Edison Laboratories, is credited with the
invention of a practicable form of a celluloid strip containing a sequence of images, the basis of a
method of photographing and projecting moving images.[citation needed] Celluloid blocks were
thinly sliced, then removed with heated pressure plates. After this, they were coated with a
photosensitive gelatin emulsion.[citation needed] In 1893 at the Chicago World s Fair, Thomas

He loved BMX bikes since he was a little kid but he never had money to buy a bike for himself. He
saved all his birthday money every year to buy a bike he always wanted that was $400. In school
he wasn t popular; kids made fun of his looks. He had only two best friends Drake and Josh. Drake
was Swedish and also loved to bmx, but Josh was the one that was the best at bmx out of all them.
Everyone roasted Pablo s style, and how poor he was. Drake and Josh had good bmx bikes, while
Pablo only had a skateboard. While they were at school, Pablo saw a kid with his dream bike. He

The Differences Between Buddhism and Hinduism Essay
Both Buddhism and Hinduism are well known religions. They are two of the most popular
polytheistic faiths in the world. Some people believe them to be sects of the same religion, but they
are mistaken. Buddhism and Hinduism have some similarities, but many things set them apart from
each other as well. They are each their own religion in many aspects.
Buddhism and Hinduism come from the same region, India. Both of them are very focused on
nature, the things around them, though they both believe in several hells and heavens, or higher
and lower worlds. They both believe in karma which is the affect a person s actions in this life will
change his next life. Another point is that both religions focus on peace, and non violence towards

Buddhists believe in the concept of Bodhisattvas, or the enlightened existence, but the Hindus do

requirements on the eightfold path, or the principal teachings of the Buddha. Hinduism has many
different paths of self realization. Both religions believe in karma and reincarnation, but their terms
and conditions vary, different in as many ways as they are similar. Buddhists have no priests or
rituals like the Hindus do. Also, in the Buddhist religion, any follower than achieve Nirvana, but in
the Hindu religion, only the Brahmins, or priests, could achieve moksha, the Hindu equivalent of
Nirvana. Another large difference is that Buddhists do not believe in the Caste System, a main
factor in Hinduism. This is one of their largest differences. Hinduism does not know their original
creator, unlike most other religions; they ve lost any information about their founder over the many
years, whereas the Buddhists know their creator, Buddha. Buddhism is a much younger religion
than Hinduism. The two religions are very much different.

Tomography Critique
Article Critique #1
Authors of the article Computed Tomography An Increasing Source of Radiation Exposure
commend the diagnostic advantages of computed tomography (CT), but declare there is
evidence and concern of the discipline s overuse in various patient populations, especially
pediatrics. Of the more than 62 million CT scans per year, almost 16% of these exams are
performed on children (David Hall, 2007, para. 1). The article s title and abstract clearly pinpoint
the dilemma. With the rising number of CT procedures, the authors cause for concern is three fold:
radiation doses received by the patient, cancer risks tied to ionizing radiation exposure and potential
for latent effects in the general public (David Hall, 2007). Unfortunately, the article s abstract is
lacking as it did not summarize what methodology is utilized or state a conclusion of the author s
findings.
The authors begin defending their stance by providing several reasons for the recent surge of CT
procedures: rapid technological advances, convenience to the patient and cost effectiveness (David
Hall, 2007). The calculated dose a patient receives from a CT procedure is only an estimated
exposure dose. To date, a patient s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and acknowledge that CT is often overused. The authors provide the percentages of CT procedures
performed and study conclusions, but they did not reveal their methodology and instrumentation
approaches. The content in the article is significant, but the authors data collection lacks evidence

Novelism In The Stagecoach
In Hollywood, there was a fear of communism and far left political ideas. Novelists of the time
influenced change in political ideas and national purpose along with the conflict between the
common man and capitalist corporations (Sklar 242). Their ideas influenced films like
Stagecoach which exposed corporate greed and corruption and other less than obvious forces at
work in American society (Sklar 242). Stagecoach was a Western film that addressed ideas
regarding the end of the American frontier and the end of expansion that reflects in the character
of America (Blake 179). It questions the values of big business and the sketchy banks with a
corrupt banker, Gatewood, who steals the bank roll and takes off to the West. The doctor,
Peacock, is a raging alcoholic, and the hero, Ringo Kid, falls in love with the prostitute, Dallas.
Additionally, the Stagecoach itself is in poor repair signifying the daunting condition of the
United States at the time. The characters are not who they appear to be and the end, where Dallas
and Ringo go off into the sunset together, differs from traditional Westerns where the hero cannot
fall in love with anyone, let alone a prostitute. The juxtaposition between the characters and their
destiny s is symbolic of the chaos in America in the late 1930 s. The United States pulled out of
the Great Depression through WWII. However, when WWII was over, the United States still faced
some of the same social issues that persisted through the 1920 s and

The Evolution of the Giraffe Neck Essay
The Evolution of the Giraffe Neck
Throughout time, one theory has remained constant in terms of why giraffes developed longer
necks. The idea, which was presented by Charles Darwin states quite simply that giraffes
selected for longer necks in order to reach the food that was higher off the ground during the dry
season. No one has ever challenged that idea until 1996. Initially, Gould argued that the story the
giraffe evolved its long neck in competition to reach scare foliage is supported by no evidence
(18). That s when two scientists, Robert Simmons and Lou Scheepers made the claim that necks
evolved for a very different reason: sexual selection. Within this paper, information will be
presented that argues both for and against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If food was scarce, it makes sense that the giraffes would evolve to keep their species alive. In
order for this theory to remain true, there should be length increases in limbs in the same
proportion as to the increases in their heads and necks. On the other hand, the proposed theory
deals with the notion that the length of the giraffe neck increased because the neck is used as a
weapon during intrasexual combat (Simmons 773). The basic idea of this is that during
competition two males stand next to each other and exchange hits by using their necks. The top
or back of the skull is actually used to knock the competitor to the ground. It is likely that with a
larger neck and head, the giraffe is more destructive. It is also assumed that larger and longer
necks would be selected for. The process of necking is unique to giraffes and only male giraffes
have ever been viewed doing this. Therefore, it is likely that this action is related to sexual
selection. Necking has been observed to be very effective for giraffes to obtain their mates. Often
the males are knocked unconscious or even killed during the fighting. The violent nature of these
fights is unbelievable. Even when an opponent may be knocked to the ground, that does not stop
the fight. They may still be kicked or stepped which can eventually lead to death. Sexual selection
is a special form of natural selection that is responsible for the evolution of traits that promote

The Is Not The Right Word Essay
How many people will I kill in my lifetime? I am not some deranged serial killer with deadly
intentions, but I am a person that is aware that my actions could have ramifications that I cannot
possibly fathom. Perhaps kill is not the right word. How many deaths will I be responsible for
by the time I leave this earth? Much better. As Susan Griffin asserts in Our Secret , the lives of
everyone on this planet are much more intertwined that most like to believe. As are the lives of
those who have come before, and those that will come after. This is what she refers to as us
being part of a larger matrix . There is a particular scene in a favorite movie of mine, Good Will
Hunting, which I think perfectly sums up this idea. Why shouldn t I work for the N.S.A.? That
s a tough one, but I ll take a shot. Say I m working at N.S.A. Somebody puts a code on my desk,
something nobody else can break. Maybe I take a shot at it and maybe I break it. And I m real
happy with myself, cause I did my job well. But maybe that code was the location of some rebel
army in North Africa or the Middle East. Once they have that location, they bomb the village
where the rebels were hiding and fifteen hundred people I never met, never had no problem with,
get killed I understand that this is just a scene from a movie, but I think that the premise stands.

  • 2. The Difference of North and South Even though the North and the South origins were both from Europe, their customs and living habits were different. The North and the South began to notice these differences as they broke away from Britain in the Revolutionary War. The North and South emerged into two different regions, due to their various differences. These differences included the geography, the economy, the social and classification status, and transportation. One of the most striking differences between the North and the South was the climate and geography. The North s climate was full of warm summers and cold winters; the terrain was rocky and hilly, which wasn t good for farming. But the North did have little farms. Most of the forest was used for shipbuilding, and cities were used for trading centers. The rivers were fast and shallow which made it hard to navigate. Also in the North people used waterpower to run factories, because it was a cheap source of energy. The South was somewhat different; the climate was generally warm and sunny. The summers were long and hot, and the winters were pretty mild. Due to the South s climate they were able to grow different crops in large amounts, unlike the North. The south had large farms, called plantations. In the South cities developed near rivers, because of rich soil which made it easier for them to farm. There were various economic differences between the North and South. In the south their economy was based on agriculture. That s why they believed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Princess Mononoke And Disney Movies They say: When I first saw Princesses Mononoke at five, I didn t understand any conflict or meaning of the film. Only the scene where the Forest Spirit is finding his head and killing all the living things on earth stayed in my mind. I remember laying in my bed that night after watching the film thinking, This movie is so scary... how nice will it be if this princess is a Disney princess. I have believed for a long time that if Princess Mononoke was produced by Disney, the film will be so much more successful. I say After becoming a young adult and rewatching Princess Mononoke again, my old thought of the film, which was Princess Mononoke being produced by Disney will be more successful, has twisted. The style of Studio Ghibli provided the movie the unique, exciting, and memorable features. To be more specific, the fascinating and well thought storyline was the most outstanding part of the film. How Hayao Miyazaki did not separate good and evil with a clear defined line; illustrated a deeper environmentalist message than Disney films; created an open ending which gives the audiences more space to imagine and contemplate, are all what made the film a big hit during the 1990s. Supporting points: 1. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are no definite evil characters in Princess Mononoke. While Lady Eboshi kills and hunts down the animals in the forest, she also stays loyal to the Iron Town and tries to give the citizens a better quality of life. Additionally, when Nature is fighting the humans back, they themselves got into an internal conflict and lost their unity. This feature makes the film more convincing and relatable to audiences. In real life, people are not always bad or good. Humans reactions depend on different situation. Comparing Princesses Mononoke (1997) to The Jungle Book (1967) by Disney, both of them are telling a story that happened in the woods and the conflict between human and nature, however, The Jungle Book has a clear line between the good and bad ... • 4. How Did The Middle Class Affect 16th Century England Even though English society was hierarchical, it was easy to move up or down from one generation to the next. Most people got their status from birth and land ownership. England changed a lot during the 16th century. There were several internal changes in England which affected England s class system. The respect for the middle classgrew and the Gentry class grew. These changes affected several lives during the 16th century. These classes include peasants, serfs, farmers, craftsmen, knights, nobles, merchants, gentries, courtiers, nobles, and royalty. During the sixteenth century, the King was at the top of the English social hierarchy. Royalty included emperors, empresses, kings, and queens. They were very powerful and controlling. They didn t have a gentry status because they did manual labor. As stated in the text, But the next moment he was himself disturbed by it, and showed discomposure; for this was the only service he had been permitted to do with his own hands during the meal, and he did not doubt that he had done a most improper and un princely thing. (page 31) Right before feeling uncomfortable, Tom Canty had put several nuts into his pockets and quickly realized that the act wasn t prince like at all. Tom realized that high class people don t do anything for themselves. This proves that farmers, merchants, and craftsmen can t be part of the high class. Wealthy merchants and citizens of England s large towns were at the same level with yeomen or gentlemen. The wealthiest and most important merchants were London s international businessmen, who imported high value items from Europe and other places. Below yeomen were husbandmen, farmers for themselves and making enough to feed their family while selling some at the market. Husbandmen would be forced to work for others during bad harvest years. They would have an income of around 3 euros after paying all their expenses during good years. Below husbandmen were laborers and cottagers because they had to work for others to get wages. Consequently, merchants, farmers, and craftsmen were part of the second lowest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Ignacia In Beowulf Once there was a female mortal named Ignacia who roamed freely in the vast forest near her home. Being naughty and causing trouble with others intrigued her, she was always acting bad, breaking the peace between everyone. No mortal wanted to make the mistake of making her angry: one spark would set her temperamental attitude off wild. Aside from her personality, Ignacia had a beautiful, colorful mixture of hair and a red complexity to her face, like the colors of fire, that she dearly admired about herself. She had strong, long legs that gave great support to stand her ground, like a tree trunk, while her hair swayed in the wind, like leaves falling to the ground on a windy day. From there on, Pazia and Ignacia became good friends and worked on her temper. Staying away from other mortals helped, so they stayed in the woods isolated from society and restored nature that Ignacia had damaged. Ignacia began to be very fond of Pazia; she realized that peace was easier and a better lifestyle to live rather than having short patience and being angry. Destrius, being busy with other things, had not noticed Ignacia changing until it was too late. He became furious and approached her as she was singing and gardening the plants. Why have you changed your behavior? I liked it the way it was before, he persuasively said, hinting to revert her behavior back. Ignacia firmly replied with, Well, hello. I am not interested in that old life; I love keeping peace and tending nature, as she remembered the old times. Destrius, mad and jealous that Pazia had taken over, tried to think of a way to change Ignacia back. • 7. Beyond Fundamentalism In the novel Beyond Fundamentalism: Confronting Religious Extremism in the Age of Globalization, Reza Aslan argues that the war on terror is a cosmic war. Many people studying the issue make the terrible mistake of overlooking the purpose of the radical jihadist groups located in the Middle East, such as Al Qaedaand ISIS. Aslan states that although they present a frightening image by hurting and killing infidels , one of their main purposes is to educate the world on their religious values/goals and power. The leaders of these groups require no victory or prize to be won, but only the symbolism that is learned from their extreme actions and sacrifices. The groups justify their devastating choices by executing plans in the name of their god.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sherman Alexie Indian Identity The novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, written by Sherman Alexie, enables the reader to look into the life of Junior as he encounters situations that allow him to discover his identity and self esteem. Identity and self esteem represented in the novel display how important it is to be part of a community, providing a sense of belonging. Throughout the story, Junior experiences circumstances where he faces and realizes his split personality of being Indian and white at the same time. Sherman Alexie demonstrates this by saying, They call [Junior] an apple because they think I m red on the outside and white on the inside (132). In addition, this describes how Junior has to embrace being white at Reardan and he also has to embrace his Indian self back on the reservation. An example is when Junior was determined to go to Reardan for a more successful future. However, he is still not abandoning his culture and identity as an Indian.... But I also belong to the tribe of American immigrants. And to the tribe of basketball players (217). An 18 year old has been accused of murdering his father and the jury has retired to determine his fate. The jury performs a preliminary vote and the results came out to be eleven for guilty and one, the architect played by Henry Fonda, for not guilty. The rest of the jurythen begins to persuade the architect that the accused is actually guilty. Each member of the jury played a key role in the development of the group and the task at hand. The seventh juror, the baseball fan, played a self centered role because he was more concerned about the Yankees game than the trial. He was one of the more difficult jurors because he made inappropriate remarks and jokes, he didn t contribute very much to the discussion, he insulted a few of the other jurors, and he changed his vote without having a reason other than, I don t think he s guilty. Henry Fonda s character was an architect and who played a task and maintenance role. He was the first person to say not guilty and started the entire discussion which ultimately made everyone change their vote to not guilty. The ninth juror, the wise elderly man, played a maintenance role. At one point in the movie the architect decides that after a vote he would say guilty if the rest of the jury still voted guilty. After the vote, the old man was the only person to change to not guilty because he felt that standing alone isn t easy and he wanted to hear more facts about the trial. • 10. My Favorite Part Of Football My favorite part of football is when they hit each other and as a child growing up that is what I got excited about and enjoyed watching. However after watching this documentary I really started to think about the hazards and potential risks that the players face to entertain and participate in. There was clear evidence of a sub optimal study performed by the NFL by doctors of limited experience and published finding of bias and inaccurate information. The NFL executives that knowingly withheld knowledge about the potential risks the players faced from players should be held accountable for their actions. Dr. Bennet Omalu, forensic pathologist and Dr. Ann McKee, director of neuropathology at the Veterans Administration in Massachusetts, discovered and headed scientific studies that publicized the unexpected findings of a potential link between concussions that NFL football players suffer from direct impacts on the field to a disease of the brain that causes depression, personality changes, and suicidal tendencies. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy or CTE is discovered and studied by these professionals, and published for peer review among colleagues, finding that suggest that there is a direct link to the concussions that are suffered by players to the incidence of suffering from CTE and its symptoms. According to findings in the autopsies of Mike Webster and Terry Long, two former Pittsburg Steelers NFL players performed by Dr. Omalu while employed as a medical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Advantages Of Qualitative Method According to Patton, (2001) qualitative method enables the researcher to have a good knowledge of certain aspects of social life and as such try to make meaning out of it. Data from qualitative methods comes in form of words which can be recorded and later transcribed, thus making it easy for the researcher to re frame, re analyze and check the responses at a later time. Locke, et al., (2000) as cited in Steele, (2008) argued that one of the goals of qualitative method is to get the understanding about peoples idea of a particular phenomenon. One merit of the method is that it helps the researcher to fathom the true experience of many people about a concept or a happening under investigation which other methods may not decipher (Creswell, 1997).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another advantage of qualitative methods is the use of the open ended questions for collecting the data. This form of questions allows the participants to answer the questions in a different way by dictating individual responses which makes the method different from other methods of research. The method also allows the researcher to gather essential information directly from the affected participants which he/she may not have known about. More generally, the method can be said to provide an avenue for respondents to talk freely without necessarily been restricted to certain answers. Thus, qualitative methods allows the researcher to carefully engage with the respondent, thus creating a good interactive platform through which the researcher is able to ask questions such as what happened?, what is your experience?, how do you feel it can be improved? etc. The method especially the face to face interview technique or observation could provide information necessary for a further research where little or nothing is known about the topic in question (Patton, ... • 13. The Conflict Of World Hunger What is one of the major ethical food issue on modern American society? The simple answer is the conflict of world hunger. Throughout the ages, this has been a problem looming over the world. Millions have perished from this problem from all over the globe. It is a problem in large cities to the vast deserts. World hunger can be solved however, mankind chooses not to solve it. The lack of investment is also one of the many factors that contributes to world hunger. The market even has a way of taking the viability of food away. Everyday citizens even play a large role in world hunger. World hunger is caused by food being sold in select markets, lack of investment in agriculture, and the constant waste of food. The market of where a product is sold is one of the causes of food being unavailable due to market demands. According to Frances LappГЁ, environmental activist, The hundreds of millions of people who go hungry cannot create a sufficient market demand for the fruits of the Earth (LappГЁ 294). Experts agree that there is a strong correlation between world hunger and money. According to other experts, the current way of discussing and managing the world economy is not fit for purpose; it s failing hundreds of millions now and is set to fail billions in the coming decades (Hobbs). Due to capitalism money is extremely important in today s society because without money third world consumers cannot purchase adequate food. First world consumers create inequality when a ... • 18. Music Techniques In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho Psycho Alfred Hitchcock s iconic film Psycho is one of the best horror movies in history. It is famous as well as notorious even with today s high standards. The movie is about a secretary, Marion, who embezzles $40,00 from a client of her employer. She goes on the run and ends up staying at a very remote and creepy hotel. There she meets Norman Bates, a man who seems to be under a lot of control of his mother. Marion ends up being murdered in the famous shower scene by Norman s mother, however, at the end we end up finding out that the mother was actually Norman who had developed a double personality of his mother. While this movie s story and plot are outstanding to stay the least, the movie s success also had a lot to do with the sound used within in key scenes. The sound also helped play a major role in the movie s themes, which I believe to fear, and guilt. I think that the music used in throughout the film corresponded with the theme overall in some way, shape or form. Even at the very beginning of the film, before any scenes take place, we are given suspenseful music. This is used to convey the over arching theme to the audience right away to make it obvious that this is the way that they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 19. Civil Disobedience And The Civil Rights Movement During the Civil Rights Movement, King and many of his followers and fellow activists deeply followed the path of non violent protest, otherwise known as civil disobedience. After being arrested during the 1963 Birmingham Campaign, King received a series of critiques from fellow clergymen stating their disapproval of his actions. Of course, King addressed a letter, now more commonly known as Letter from Birmingham Jail, to his critics as well as the nation in order to defend his ideology. Though King does a great job at explaining to his audience the essence of his ideology, he fails to address the practicality or universality of civil disobedience. Civil disobedience may have been a powerful tool for the Civil Rights Movement but it seems the political atmosphere of the United States was able to make its success possible. The United States is considered a modern democratic state and its constitution limits the power of the government to a degree. In this political atmosphere, civil disobedience and other forms of protest would be the ideal. At most, the government would only be able to imprison an individual and with reasonable punishment, the most probable sentence would be only a few months to a year or two. Now, suppose a person living during the early era of the Tokugawa Shogunatewanted a change and does so through civil disobedience. Let us say that this person is a daimyo or lord who disagrees with the Shogun and directly disobeys an order. First ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The goal is to maximize production output and minimize cost therefore getting maximized profit while still keeping workers happy and motivated. Different methods have been introduced and tested. For example, in a company that produces chair, the task in making the chair would be separated to, cutting the parts off wood, assembly of the parts, paint and finishing touches, but even this can still be separated into smaller components. This will result in reducing the skill required for a task The second principal is separate planning and doing. At the time, workers do all the planning and doing, in taylorism, the planning are taken from the workers and given to managers. This would make planning more optimal; standardizing every task. Before, workers would do his job with the way that he thinks is best, without or with only little help from the management. • 24. Lab Report On Chemical Weathering Jesus Chavez Chemical Weathering Background Information: First of all chemical weathering is when there is rainwater that is able to react with mineral grains in rocks to form new minerals and also soluble salts. This type of reaction would usually occur when the water is slightly acidic. For this reaction to occur it needs water and would occur more rapidly at higher temperatures for example damp and warm climates would be the best for this reaction to occur. Chemical weathering usually happens more often in the spring because this is when it is more humid and hot outside and that is what chemical weathering needs for it to occur and also when it is usually hot or humid there will also be water. Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to simulate the effects of slightly acidic rainwater on rocks and minerals. Hypothesis: If the level of acidity rises of the solution being placed on the rock or mineral then a greater amount of dissolving will happen because of more acidic solution will destroy more chemical bonds in the rock/mineral. Procedure: Get a scale and record the initial mass of the limestone chips Get 5 50mL beakers and fill the first one with 30 mL of water Fill the second beaker with 30 mL of hydrochloric acid (strength:1 M) Fill the third beaker with 30 mL of hydrochloric acid (strength:2 M) Fill the fourth beaker with 30 mL of hydrochloric acid (strength:3 M) Fill the last beaker with 30 mL of hydrochloric acid (strength: 6 M) Then place ... Cupping At The Rio Olympics 2016 Cupping has recently made headlines at the Rio Olympics 2016 when Michael Phelps, and several Olympians have been spotted rocking huge round purple bruises in their backs. Sadly, these bruises didn t come from extreme BDSM play (though that would ve been a much better story to tell) but rather came from another ancient therapy known as cupping. Cupping is an ancient therapy mostly used in Middle Eastern and Asian countries. The therapy involves putting multiple warm round suction cups in your back targeting the sore parts of your body. This process is believed to stimulate muscles and blood flow. Back in the day, cupping therapy has been used to cure all kinds of ailments including shingles, facial paralysis, and even acne. The speaker is a person, and is likely an observer. Poe uses situational irony in section two to disguise the true horror that the poem holds, giving the later sections greater influence. It is hard enough for them to understand what is being ask of them and giving them extra instructions will just confuse them. It is important to use rapid pace, explicit and concise questions, and to use enthusiastic praise immediately after a child responds because the students who are struggling are falling behind their peers, using a fast paced can lead them to catch up within a short time frame. By using a fast pace approach students have less time of being distracted, it keeps them focus on the material. All of Randy s sorties and jokes were easy to understand and direct. Something that Pausch did that was very creative was his use of foreshadowing. The photo of him and his siblings on the Alice ride at Disney as a child connected well with the program he designed later in life as a professor. Furthermore, he made that it apparent to his audience that may not have originally seen the connection by stating it was a foreshadowing moment. By leaving the story open ended until a later time in his lecture, he captured the interest of people who didn t know him prior by intriguing them with a mystery. Then to people who did understand, it was a fun and heartwarming connection. The point of using foreshadowing and other organization techniques is to keep the brain occupied and attentive. Pausch does an excellent job of this. Despite Pausch s tragic diagnosis, the man stands strong with a positive outlook on life. His ability to be realistic about his condition commands respect while his lightheartedness gives shows us that he is at peace with his fate. It started out normally as a young man by the name of Billy Weaver entered the city of Bath, but as he poked his nose around a bit too much, he was never heard from again. Roald Dahl s twisted story The LandLady is not your average story. We have to infer the ending of the story but Dahl does leave small hints to tell us what were the Landlady s intentions. Even though we have to assume what happens at the end, it s clear that the genre is interchangeable between thriller and mystery. The story is about a disturbed old lady that lures unsuspecting young men to their death. The LandLady supports this claim; the story shows an old woman that wasn t visited very much and due to this, she went psychopathic. Even though she was alone this doesn t give her a reason for taking the lives of young men, but loneliness took over her mind so she couldn t stop. Billy started to stereotype the old lady which lead him to keep his guard down. He did not consider his instincts at all so the end result was an unfortunate outcome for him. We know that this story doesn t have a Disney ending because of this very clever hint that Roald Dahl has left for us. When people are stripped of their freedom and their lives are threatened, their instinct is to find some way to stay alive physically and to cope mentally. During the Holocaust, relieved to be alive and in fear of the death around them, many prisoners made an amorality of choices to survive and so these prisoners became implicated in the system of torture and killing themselves. This is an identity given to them not only by the prisoners who are subject to their mistreatment and punishment, but also by the Nazi SS men who use freedom from death as leverage to help in managing other prisoners. Other than the prisoners who they managed and repressed, the soldiers were the only social, emotional and psychological contact these prisoners had. Unconsciously, these prisoners began to adopt some of the behavior and attitudes of the Nazi SS men. They became numb, and detached from the people suffering around them. In this essay I am going to compare Tadeusz Borowski s tone, voice and creative narrative in, This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentleman, with Ruth Franklin s findings from her investigation of his work, in her book, A Thousand Darknesses: Lies and Truth in the HolocaustFiction. The Central Concern Of The National Curriculum The central concern that this case study seeks to address, is whether or not play should continue to be influential in the acquisition of language with regards to readiness to learn within the National curriculum. This emotive subject was found by the researcher to be ever present when providing for needs of the child with SEN and EAL within year one, finding the restriction to movement and space detrimental to learning. Roberts Holmes (2012) concurs this highlighting the conflict of interests between the EYFS and the National Curriculum where play based learning is very much decreased. In addition Tickell (2011) shares concerns about the disconnect between the EYFS and the National Curriculum recommending a smoother transition between the two. Brock (2009) confirms this by speaking of the need for the transition to be more fluent by teacher through a more play based curriculum. However such planning is found by McInnes et al (2011) to be heavily influenced by the predisposed understanding and perceptions of the individual teacher. Therefore an analysis of such thoughts and perceptions towards play within year one, will also be examined/evaluated throughout the research. With the rising number of CT procedures, the authors cause for concern is three fold: radiation doses received by the patient, cancer risks tied to ionizing radiation exposure and potential for latent effects in the general public (David Hall, 2007). Unfortunately, the article s abstract is lacking as it did not summarize what methodology is utilized or state a conclusion of the author s findings. Stagecoach was a Western film that addressed ideas regarding the end of the American frontier and the end of expansion that reflects in the character of America (Blake 179). It questions the values of big business and the sketchy banks with a corrupt banker, Gatewood, who steals the bank roll and takes off to the West. The doctor, Peacock, is a raging alcoholic, and the hero, Ringo Kid, falls in love with the prostitute, Dallas. Additionally, the Stagecoach itself is in poor repair signifying the daunting condition of the United States at the time. The idea, which was presented by Charles Darwin states quite simply that giraffes selected for longer necks in order to reach the food that was higher off the ground during the dry season. No one has ever challenged that idea until 1996. Initially, Gould argued that the story the giraffe evolved its long neck in competition to reach scare foliage is supported by no evidence (18). If food was scarce, it makes sense that the giraffes would evolve to keep their species alive. In order for this theory to remain true, there should be length increases in limbs in the same proportion as to the increases in their heads and necks. On the other hand, the proposed theory deals with the notion that the length of the giraffe neck increased because the neck is used as a weapon during intrasexual combat (Simmons 773). The basic idea of this is that during competition two males stand next to each other and exchange hits by using their necks. The top or back of the skull is actually used to knock the competitor to the ground. It is likely that with a larger neck and head, the giraffe is more destructive.
