Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

In response to all these changes, many small and midsize businesses are focused on three key areas:
Doing more with less—In today’s business environment, doing “more with less” has become the new normal. To stay ahead of the game, it is imperative to get the most out of every investment. When it comes to your technology investments, this means cutting costs wherever possible and getting the most value out of the products and services you purchase. It means creating a foundation that will grow with your business and set you up for the future.
Getting the job done, wherever you are—As the division between our personal and business lives blurs, employees expect to be able to work anywhere—whether on their PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. SMBs need to enable this mobility, while making sure their data is kept safe.
Focusing your efforts to win business—Most businesses recognize that they have a massive amount of useful data in a range of disparate sources, such as customer databases, accounting systems, and product data. But it is often challenging for employees to access the data they need and to put it to use to make sales and better service customers. Those businesses who can use information to their advantage will win customers and keep them.
Today’s business environment is always changing. To win, you need to stay ahead of the game:
First, be lean & stay lean. Don’t invest a cent more than you need but scale instantly when required. Achieve your business goals while getting the most value from your investments.
Next, enable business anywhere. Be faster and bolder than your competition. Empower your employees to work anywhere and make decisions and win in real time.
Finally, tap your data goldmine. Leverage all the data you collect to its fullest to know your customers better, target the right opportunities, and win sales.
When you’re ahead of the game, you lead!
Innovation—or just hype?
Google Apps for Work can only offer narrow productivity experiences that hold you back and don’t fit your growing business. Google promotes its cloud services as leading edge, but missing workloads, limited flexibility, and data at risk undercut that claim.
Riskier for enterprise.
With Google Apps for Work, important security capabilities such as data loss prevention—and continuing support for management, maintenance, and security—are only available through third-party services with separate licenses and service level agreements. The Google business model depends heavily on advertising, and Google’s consumer privacy policy allows customer data to be scanned to provide targeted advertisements to users. Unless Enterprise users take additional steps to secure their user-data privacy by opting-in to a Data Processing Amendment (DPA) for Google Apps for Work, Google has the right to use their content to operate, promote, and improve its services, and to develop new ones.
One size does not fit all.
Google offers consumer-oriented productivity and business terms that aren’t suitable for the enterprise.
Google Apps for Work is only delivered as online services, so you have to move to the cloud all at once—ready or not—with only limited support, and virtually no flexibility to choose just the services you need.
Too narrow for enterprise.
Google Apps for Work’s approach to productivity is simply too narrow for the enterprise. Google does not support enterprise workloads such as business intelligence or enterprise content management, leaving customers to settle for third-party services and integration headaches.
