This presentation provides an overview of working with open educational resources (OERs). It defines OERs and introduces the different Creative Commons licenses and how to properly attribute OERs using the TASL framework. The presentation outlines include an introduction and survey, a section on Creative Commons licenses and an activity to practice attributing images, and a section on finding and using OER resources. The outcomes are to understand the Creative Commons licenses, correctly attribute open resources, and locate information about OERs and open textbooks.

In this session participants are invited to develop short visual presentations by locating and using openly licensed content. They will be guided through the process of finding, reusing, and sharing open content, learning about licenses along the way.
The session will cover:
The differences between Open Access, Open Educational Resources, Copyright materials, and Licensed materials.
How to identify licensed materials and which licences suit various type of usage.
How to search on a variety of platforms for licensed materials (e.g. Google, Flickr, Vimeo, Wikimedia Commons).

The GCR - Global Clinic Rating, the leading provider of healthcare clinic ratings worldwide, aggregated and analyzed dental clinics throughout the Vietnam during 2017 including dental clinics in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang.
A total of 116 dental clinics were included in the study. The average GCR dental clinic quality score was 2.6, demonstrating the huge range of rising healthcare standards available in the country.

In this workshop, members of the Open.Michigan initiative will teach
you how to find openly licensed content and show you how to remix it
to create new open educational resources (OER). Included will be an
overview of copyright law and we will discuss how this applies to the
creation and use of OER. Examples of OER use and reuse will illustrate
how these resources can have an impact on local and international
learning communities and how they have been used in specific contexts.
Participants will also get a chance to generate examples of OER and
learn how these resources can be accessed and adapted online. Please

to this workshop and we will help you make it open on the spot.

Open Education Resources - Medicine Education Forum Open.Ed

The session included an introduction to Open Education Resources from OER Advisor, Stephanie (Charlie) Farley. Followed by an update from Simon Riley about his work on OpenMed (http://openmed.co.uk/), a learning framework for students and staff to curate medicine and health care OERs and other open access resources.
Open Education Resources (OERs) are online resources that are available for others to use to support learning. The University of Edinburgh has recently adopted an OER policy, which outlines the institutional position on OERs and provides guidelines for practice in learning and teaching.

For many instructors, developing and teaching an online course will be a new experience. The same will be true for many incoming students who are now facing the potential that their entire fall term may be delivered in a format that they are unfamiliar with. As their instructor, there are some strategies you can employ that can help alleviate the fears and concerns learners new to online learning may have about taking online courses. In this session, we'll take a look at the student experience taking an online course for the first time. What are some of the common challenges many will face? What kind of impact is COVID having on their learning experience, and what are some practical ways through course design and facilitation that you can help ensure they will be successful learners.

The Open Education movement has gained a great deal of traction in the 10 years since the groundbreaking 2007 Capetown Declaration on Open Education, due largely in part to the increasing acceptance and use of Open Educational Resources (OER), like open textbooks. Recently, a second wave of open educators have begun to emphasize the importance of a new emerging pedagogical model enabled by open education, referred to as open pedagogy.
In addition to OER and open pedagogy, a third pillar of the open education movement revolves around the importance of open technologies. The 2007 Capetown Declaration sates that, "open education is not limited to just open educational resources. It also draws upon open technologies that facilitate collaborative, flexible learning and the open sharing of teaching practices that empower educators to benefit from the best ideas of their colleagues."
In British Columbia, a small ad hoc group of educators known as the BC Open EdTech Collaborative has been quietly experimenting with different open technologies that have the potential to support open education practices, and with different models to be able to support users of open education technologies.
In this session, Clint Lalonde will talk about the connection between open education and open source software, the importance of open technologies to the open education movement, and will demonstrate some of the open education technologies that the BC Open EdTech Collaborative have been exploring.

The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.
