4. What is Healthy?
Healthy is defined as ‘the state of being free from illness of injury’.

5. During the growing up years the fat cells increase in number
and size due to faulty eating practices. Once the extra fat cells
have been formed, they stay. All efforts of loosing weight can only
reduce the size of fat cells, but not the number. Over weight
children grow in overweight Adults.

7. How do we decide that one is obese or not?
What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is used to decide weather a person is obese or
not.
It is a person’s weight in kg divided by the square of its height.
For children and adolescents BMI is age and sex specific and is also
referred as BMI of age.

10. A country where 270 million people live below the 'poverty line',
obesity seems to be a distant issue, meant for the rich kids of first world. But
India is under siege: junk food, alcohol and sedentary lifestyle are leading us
to silent self-destruction, making one in every five Indian men and women
either obese or overweight.
Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in India in the 21st
century, with morbid obesity affecting 5% of the country's population. India is
following a trend of other developing countries that are steadily becoming
more obese. Unhealthy, processed food has become much more accessible
following India's continued integration in global food markets. This, combined
with rising middle class incomes, is increasing the average caloric intake per
individual among the middle class and above income households. Obesity is a
major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and NGOs such as the Indian Heart
Association have been raising awareness about this issue.[

Consuming poor quality; fat rich food and lack of physical activities
contribute to obesity as we don’t burn much calories to stay fit.
Food loaded with fat and sugar is commonly referred to as junk food.
It is deficient in vitamins, proteins and loaded only with calories.
Watching T.V. and consuming junk food are associated with higher
prevalence of obesity.

13. Prevention
 Keep yourself physically active in order to burn extra calories and keep
metabolism geared towards using food instead of storing fats.
 Take a balanced food intake
i. For children boys, girls 2200 calories
ii. For active, boys , girls 2800 calories
 Avoid eating outside in restaurant and dhabas as you can end up with 30%
more calorie intake than in home.
