This document provides an overview of onboard diagnostics (OBD) and OBD2 systems. It discusses what OBD and OBD2 are, where the data link connector is located, the different communication protocols that can be used, what diagnostic trouble codes are, and how having your own OBD2 scanner can save money on car repairs.
OBD II (On-Board Diagnostics) stack, designed and developed by our expert automotive developers, is a set of embedded software services implemented in compliance with ISO 15031 standards for automotive.
Automotive Diagnostic Systems - From OBD to Open Diagnostics Exchange formatTorben Haagh
Like in other fields, in automotive fault diagnosis, humans were increasingly removed from the loop, and computers took over until we are now at the stage of on-board diagnosis (OBD). Sensors are attached to various components, such as a cooling system's thermostat, and a wire runs from that through a harness and to a terminal block, which, in turn, is plugged into a diagnostic machine outside the car.

In internal combustion engines, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is a nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions reduction technique used in petrol/gasoline and diesel engines. EGR works by recirculating a portion of an engine's exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders. This dilutes the O2 in the incoming air stream and provides gases inert to combustion to act as absorbents of combustion heat to reduce peak in-cylinder temperatures. NOx is produced in a narrow band of high cylinder temperatures and pressures.
OBD or On-Board Diagnostics refers to a system for emission control which has the capability to detect a malfunction and to store the related information in nonvolatile memory. The OBD system monitors the emission relevant components or systems, stores detected malfunctions indicating likely area of malfunction and activates Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) if necessary. On-board diagnostics, required by governmental regulations, provide a means for reducing harmful pollutants into the environment. Since being mandated in 2010 in India, the regulations have continued to evolve and require engineers to design systems that meet strict guidelines. The OBD system has a microcontroller based processing system and monitors the sensors installed at different parts of vehicle to observe various emission related parameters and emission control system/devices, processing unit will take input from these sensors and signal conditioners, calculate the real-time values of vehicle parameters and give output. System will be able to diagnose faults in parameters, abnormal abrupt changes, notify user of any abnormal condition, and indicate the cause of fault. The OBD system is installed in vehicles to improve in house emission compliance by alerting the vehicle operator when a malfunction exists and to aid automobile repair technicians in identifying and repairing malfunctioning systems in the emission control system.

Modern day automobile engines are made of many electronic and electrical components that constitute engine sensors, relays and actuators. All these electronic and electrical components work together to provide Engine Control Unit (ECU) with vital data required to govern the engine functionality effectively. Sensors send the information in very less time. Sensors used in engine are generally electro-mechanical type devices that monitor various engine parameters.

PyData 2015 Keynote: "A Systems View of Machine Learning" Joshua Bloom
Despite the growing abundance of powerful tools, building and deploying machine-learning frameworks into production continues to be major challenge, in both science and industry. I'll present some particular pain points and cautions for practitioners as well as recent work addressing some of the nagging issues. I advocate for a systems view, which, when expanded beyond the algorithms and codes to the organizational ecosystem, places some interesting constraints on the teams tasked with development and stewardship of ML products.
About: Dr. Joshua Bloom is an astronomy professor at the University of California, Berkeley where he teaches high-energy astrophysics and Python for data scientists. He has published over 250 refereed articles largely on time-domain transients events and telescope/insight automation. His book on gamma-ray bursts, a technical introduction for physical scientists, was published recently by Princeton University Press. He is also co-founder and CTO of wise.io, a startup based in Berkeley. Josh has been awarded the Pierce Prize from the American Astronomical Society; he is also a former Sloan Fellow, Junior Fellow at the Harvard Society, and Hertz Foundation Fellow. He holds a PhD from Caltech and degrees from Harvard and Cambridge University.

5. 2.OBD (DLC)Data Link Connector & Protocol List Data Link Connector The Location Of DLC The DLC(Data Link Connector or Diagnostic Link Connector) is the standardized 16-cavity connector where diagnostic scan tools interface with the vehicle’s on-board computer.the DLC is usually located 12 inches from the center of the instrument panel (dash),under or around the driver’s side for most vehicles.if you can't find it,you can refer owner manual or search on google
6. Since 1996, the data link connector (DLC) is a standardized 16 cavity connector shown below.Connector design and location is dictated by an industry wide standard. Vehicle manufacturers can use the empty DLC cavities for whatever they would like. however, the DLC of every vehicle is required to provide pins 4 and 5 and 16 as defined below. When the Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol is fully implemented in the 2008 model year, all vehicles must use pins 6 and 14 as defined below.
