This document discusses the different interpersonal, informational, and decisional roles that managers fulfill. Managers serve as figureheads when performing routine or social duties. They act as leaders by hiring, training, motivating, and disciplining employees. Managers also take on a liaison role by maintaining networks to gain information and build relationships. Managers play informational roles such as a monitor who gathers data, a disseminator who decides what information is important to share, and a spokesperson who communicates with outsiders. In their decisional roles, managers identify opportunities, handle disturbances by taking corrective action, and negotiate to obtain advantages for their organization.
