WHAT IS AN ORGANIZATION?
 Organizations are simply groups with two or
more people that share a certain set of
goals and meet at regular times.
What is Behavior
 This behavior occurs in organizations.
CONCEPT
 OB is a field of study that investigates the impact
that individuals, groups and structure have on
behavior within organizations, for the purpose of
applying such knowledge toward improving
organization effectiveness.
 It studies determinants of behaviour in organization-
Individuals, groups and structure.
 It deals with jobs, work, absenteeism, employment
turnover, productivity, human performance and
Management.
WHY DO WE STUDY OB?
 To learn about yourself and how to deal with others
 You are part of an organization now, and will
continue to be a part of various organizations
 Organizations are increasingly expecting individuals
to be able to work in teams, at least some of the
time
 Some of you may want to be managers or
entrepreneurs
DEFINITIONS :
 According to L. M. Prasad, “Organisational
behaviour can be defined as the study and
application of knowledge about human behaviour
related to other elements of an organisation such
as structure, technology and social systems.”
 In words of K Aswathappa, “OB is the study of
human behaviour in organisational setting, of the
interface between human behaviour and
organisation and of the organisation itself.”
 According to Davis and Newstram, “Organisational
behaviour is the study and application of knowledge
about how people act within organisations.”
 In words of Stephen P. Robbins, “OB is a field of
study that investigates the impact that individuals,
groups and structures have on behaviour within
organisations for the purpose of applying such
knowledge towards improving an organisation’s
effectiveness.”
 According to Fred Luthans, “Behaviour is directly
concerned with the understanding, prediction and
control of human behaviour in organisations.”

  • 3. WHAT IS AN ORGANIZATION?  Organizations are simply groups with two or more people that share a certain set of goals and meet at regular times. What is Behavior  This behavior occurs in organizations.
  • 4. CONCEPT  OB is a field of study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups and structure have on behavior within organizations, for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving organization effectiveness.  It studies determinants of behaviour in organization- Individuals, groups and structure.  It deals with jobs, work, absenteeism, employment turnover, productivity, human performance and Management.

WHY DO WE STUDY OB?  To learn about yourself and how to deal with others  You are part of an organization now, and will continue to be a part of various organizations  Organizations are increasingly expecting individuals to be able to work in teams, at least some of the time  Some of you may want to be managers or entrepreneurs
  • 6. DEFINITIONS :  According to L. M. Prasad, “Organisational behaviour can be defined as the study and application of knowledge about human behaviour related to other elements of an organisation such as structure, technology and social systems.”  In words of K Aswathappa, “OB is the study of human behaviour in organisational setting, of the interface between human behaviour and organisation and of the organisation itself.”  According to Davis and Newstram, “Organisational behaviour is the study and application of knowledge about how people act within organisations.”
  • 7.  In words of Stephen P. Robbins, “OB is a field of study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups and structures have on behaviour within organisations for the purpose of applying such knowledge towards improving an organisation’s effectiveness.”  According to Fred Luthans, “Behaviour is directly concerned with the understanding, prediction and control of human behaviour in organisations.”
