This lesson plan covers nutrition in man and the digestive system. The objectives are for students to identify organs of the digestive system and understand the digestion process. The lesson will cover the organs and their functions, including the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus. Enzymes produced in each organ will be discussed, such as pepsin and rennin in the stomach. Food is broken down mechanically and chemically throughout the digestive system until nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine and undigested waste is eliminated in the feces through the anus.
