Marx Theory Of Reserve Army Of Labour
, rather than reducing migration, economic development increases migration. Marx theory of
reserve army of labour is central to what he has to say about capitalism and workers wages; the
proletariat. Most migrants in society today migrate to the US and end up working in factories
where they manage machinery. Marx theory illustrates how capitalist industries consists of two
parts the machinery and the workers. Capitalist industries expand by sukingin their workers to
operate the machinery, upping their wages and attracting more of them. By doing so the worker is
necessary to satisfy the needs of the machinery, rather than industry existing to satisfy the worker s
need. This process illustrates how capitalismexploits workers for their labour. Yet migration
provides the capitalist industry with a wide array of wage labour. Scholar Jeff Manza explains
how higher pay depends on whether or not the product is profitable for the capitalist who owns the
machinery to employ workers to operate. Marx draws the conclusion that capitalism is the first
economic system in which there can be too many workers, with a large sum coming from migration
as migrants are in search of economic development.
The influx of migrants to the US continues to create a class of uneducated proletarians who remain
unconscious of their role in unpaid labour. Immigrants become the primary source of cheap labour.
migrant labour has become manipulated in the world markets by successful capitalist countries,

Russell Simmons
Russell Simmons has been successful because he turned an idea into an opportunity. Mariotti and
Glackin (2013) states while Russell attend college he saw an opportunity in the underground
music genre Hip hop (p.154). From that moment on Russell knew he could capitalize off hip hop.
Not only did Russell take a chance on an opportunity, he formed a great record label with his friend
Rick Rubincalled Def Jam Records. However his success did not stop there Russell went on to
create a clothing line, Rush Communications and many other ventures. With his knowledge of
street entrepreneurship and the philosophy of keeping it real (p.154 155), Russell Simmonswas able

Russell not only made hip hop mainstream he gave youths around the world artist they could
relate to such as Run DMC. Run DMC was a good group to market because they stayed true to
their roots and their fashion was part of the hip hop culture.
Russell marketing advantages did not stop there. He realized that the clothing that the youth were
wearing was making a statement of who they were. It was then Russell created and promoted the
clothing line Phat Farm. Phat Farm is urban apparel that the urban youth embraced because it
represented their lifestyles. By Russell good marketing strategies more consumers were embracing
and purchasing the products that they were becoming familiar with. Further more Russell Simmons
urban roots also gave him an advantage with the youth on political issues. Mariotti and Glackin
(2013) inform readers that in 2002 Russell organized a youth summit at New York City Hall to
protest the then mayor proposal to cut the education budget (p.155). Russell new if he marketed the
event through social media, radio and TV networks he could get the youth attention. Being that
Russell had the information and associated artists such as Jay Z and Alicia Keys to address the
issues, 20,000 youth showed up to support the cause.
Around 1985 Russell Simmons invested $5000 to start Def Jam Records. However in 1999 he
made the decision to sell his business to Polygram records for $100 million giving him a return on
investments of 2 million

What Has The Industrial Revolution Improved For Modern...
What Has the Industrial Revolution Improved for Modern Civilization?
Agriculture
During the Industrial Revolution many major improvements were made to fundamental areas in
society such as agriculture, textile and metal manufacturing, transportation, economic policies, and
social structure (Montagna, The Industrial Revolution). Changes within the agriculture industry
were a central part of industrial change due to the large position that agriculture contributed to raw
materials in the textile industry. Agriculture specifically gave to the demand for products such as
wool and cotton which contributed to the production of cloth. Additionally, the advancement of
metal allowed for better farming tools which allowed for technical advancements in the way that
crops were harvested. The ultimate importance in the changes made to the agriculture industry
revolved around food availability. The changes in technology and advancements in crop rotation
made it possible to feed large populations of people. The agricultural changes provided enough food
to sustain a sufficient workforce, which additionally allowed expansion of industry and resulted in
economic expansion (Montagna, The Industrial Revolution).
The Textile Industry Hand in hand with agriculture, the textile industry grew exponentially during
this period. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, the creation of fabric occurred independently in
homes. The entire process was long and involved because the

Welfare Reform For Drug Test Recipients Essay
Pretend you are in kindergarten again and you have just won your favorite bag of candy for
behaving yourself in class all week, and right when the teacher presents you with your glorious
prize a fellow classmate, which had already been to the principals twice that week, comes up and
asks for a piece. You do not want to give him a piece because you worked hard for it and he broke
the rules so he does not deserve it, but then he goes to complain to the teacher and she says you
have to share with him. Would you be upset if you worked hard to obey the rules to win a bag of
candy, and then you find out that you could have gotten a piece anyways? This is exactly how
many taxpayers feel about welfare recipients that refuse to take drug test prior to receiving their
welfare checks. Since 1996 there has been a call for welfare reform to drug test recipients prior to
admission, but any attempts have been unsuccessful because they are viewed as a violation of the
fourth amendment, more harmful for children, and an unnecessary expense. These common
fallacies have been the main arguments leading the anti drug testing campaign, but in the past few
years many taxpayers have grown increasingly tired of their money being given to undeserving
individuals, although there has not been a clear solution to please all parties. To begin, what is
welfare? Welfareinfo.org gives the history and current facts about welfare. Welfare is a government
funded program put in action during the great

The Book Thief Movie And Book Comparison
Humans often have a strong desire for being heard and understood. When One s point of view is
not being recognized, One can start to feel lonely, depressed, frustrated or even angry. Everyone
need to have someone that will listen to them and can relate to them. In The Book Thief, by
Markus Zusak, Liesel and Max have each other to understand the others struggles and endeavors.
Max and Liesel gravitate to each other because of the similar experiences and interests they both
have. In the book, Liesel and Max use the Hubermann s basement as a safe haven. While, Max

her parents. She asks if the Fuhrer took them away. With Hans not answering the question, she
knew they had probably been killed and felt [a] slush of anger, stirring hotly in her stomach
(115). The reader can tell that Liesel is fuming with frustration and hatred towards Hitler and the
Nazi Power. Furthermore, Max despised the Nazi s because of the horrible things they did to the
Jews, him, and his family. The reader can tell that Max has a dislike for the Fuhrer because of
the fights Max has with him. Max dreams that he and Hitler fight each other; Punches are

the Fuhrer because of the pain the Fuhrer cause him and his family. Liesel and Max both feel like

Family Relationships In East Of Eden By John Steinbeck
East of Eden published by John Steinbeck in 1952 is a great example for one to use when
researching family dynamics. The book tells the story of the Trask family living in Salinas valley
California at the turn of the 19th century. It is a tumultuous tale inspired by Cain and Able. The
family consists of Adam Trask, the father of twins Cal and Aaron Trask, and Cathy Ames their
mother who abandoned them as babies. The book starts out by going over the history of the Trask
familyAfterwards the book transitions into details of Adam s life prior to the birth of
hischildren. Details of Cathy s early life are also revealed. The story goes on to uncover the
failed marriage of Adam and Cathy. It is then subsequently brought back to the present time. Cal
and Aaron are now teenagers and Adam is starting a new business venture. It becomes apparent
that Cal is quite the rebel and trouble maker. In contrast Aaron is the picture of perfection, has a
beautiful girlfriend Abra, and can do no wrong. Unbeknownst to Adam, Cal has developed a
deep jealousy of Aaron believing that their father only has love for him. Cal goes on to find out
that his and Aaron s mother who was thought to be dead is alive. He meets her and begins to
wonder if his tendencies to do bad come from her. Time goes on and Adam s business venture of
refrigerated lettuce fails. Because of this he loses fifteen thousand dollars Cal feels badly for his
father and comes up with an idea. He sets out to get his father s

Examples Of The Bible Reference About Dinah
1a. Bible Reference about Dinah s Character
The Bible introduces Dinah as the daughter of Jacob from Leah; Gen. 30:21 And afterwards she
bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah. The remainder of the book of Genesis gives some
detail that Dinah was bare in Padanaram, she was the seventh children from Leah and with her other
brother (Gen. 46:15). The Bible doesn t describe the appearance, the attitude, even the character of
Dinah. We can see a little bit character of Dinah in one occasion when Jacob and family stay some
time in the Shechem (Gen. 34:1 31).
1b. What I have learnt from Dinah s Character
A.Curiosity or An Adventureous
Genesis 34:1 And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the
daughters of the land. This was shown that Dinah has the curiosity inside her heart. Some of the
books mention that was because Dinah grew as a teenager or youth that ... Show more content on

The World Acceptance
If Jacob did not stay in that city, perhaps the terrible thing will not happen to Dinah. Since Dinah
also still live in the flesh, she wanted the world acceptance. She dresses the same kind of the city
girls at that place, which Josephus relates that she went to attend a festival at Shechem. Even the
Bible didn t mention how Dinah dressed herself, we can imagine how she wanted same with the
dressing of city girl which look beautiful. Edith Deen imagine Dinah ... In graceful tunic style
dress of a soft pastel colour, in the tones of the early flowers. Perhaps she was also wearing a veil
that fell softly across her face...
This world promises the good thing about life in this earth, the popularity, many friends, the riches.
But follow the world, is followed into the destruction of life. As Dinah wore the same dressing as
the Sheckem city girls; she got the consequence that Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the
prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled her (Gen. 34:2). He
thought she was a common harlot.

How Does Mamet Use Language
1.What is Mamet exploring about how we use language and why, and how it affects us? Mamet
explores how humans use language as it is an extremely intricate device as it is based on how we,
as individuals, interpret it. For example, one person may have a good intention in saying
something; however, the person on the receiving end of that good intention may believe that
something negative is being said. Our words and actions are the sum of the past experiences in our
lives. As a result, there are many misinterpretations in human language which makes it extremely
complicated. Mamet also wrote this play after the Clarence Thomas Anita Hill Case arose, a very
controversial case in which misinterpretation of language may have been the issue.... Show more

This is because the law unintentionally bends and changes when physical features differentiate
as a result of deeper discriminations and prejudices rooted deep in history. For example, if John
was black, the law may view him as more of a threat simply because of the colour of his skin.
Although it is not admitted, many of our thoughts of those in society that differ from us are a
result of very old prejudices that our ancestors once carried. To further this idea, if Carol was a
black woman and John was a white man, John may have even been at a greater disadvantage.
This is because today s society may subconsciously believe that an educated black woman is
already at a disadvantage, thus there would be no reason for her to lie. Now, if the roles were
reversed and a woman was the educator, and a man was at a student. The student would be much
more disadvantaged simply because men do not typically report being sexually harassed by
women as a result of fearing the loss of masculinity. If the sexual preference of either of the two
characters was changed, it may have supported either side as individuals with a minority sexual
preference are sometimes pitied, possibly in the court of law. Ultimately, to predict the changes that
would occur due to a physical feature is impossible; however, a change would affect the story,

Zinn Chapter 10
Chapter 10 of Zinn discusses the struggle between class systems that was going on when the
North and the South conflicted in the United States. During the nineteenth century, there was a
competition between class systems that resulted in strikes, killings, and the formation of unions.
While reading the chapter, one thing that surprised me was The Contract Labor Law. This law
gave business bring in foreign workers that provided a source of cheap labor and workers to fill
in the spots that strikers left (Zinn, 165). This law rewards business while punishing its workers. It
s saying that industries value money and power more than the well being of their workers, which
isn t right. It amazed me that lawmaker s valued business more than people s safety. There were no
laws that protected worker s or their health and safety. No wonder they fought and established
strikes. Workers weren t protected at all during the nineteenth century, to business they were
disposable and cheap. While reading... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rich multimillionaires paid to escape military service by paying for substitutes to take their place.
Not everyone had that luxury so it s seems unfair that people could have just done that. Money can
t solve all problems. In addition, the bribing and secret deals that wealthy inventors and business
workers made the country look corrupt. For example, Thomas Edison promised New Jersey
politicians $1,000 if they crafted laws that favored his business interests and The Central Pacific
line spent $200,000 on bribes to Washington, D.C. just to get free land and loans (Zinn, 173). Back
then if you had money you could do whatever, which is unfair. Wealth shouldn t matter and it
definitely shouldn t interfere with politics and law making. Both chapter 10 and 11 taught me new
things that I believe should be taught in the social studies curriculum. Not only were they
interesting but they are worth being

Zootopia Film Analysis
Leadership Film Analysis
Disney s Zootopia is a great depiction of James Kouzes s and Barry Posner s Five Practices of
Exemplary Leadership. The main protagonist, Judy Hopps, exemplifies those practices model the
way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart.
The first practice is model the way. According to Kouzes and Posner (2014), in order to model
the way a leader must clarify values by finding your voice and affirming shared values and set
the example by aligning actions with shared values. In the beginning of the movie Judy is putting
on a play and at the end she talks about how Zootopia is a place where you can be anything you
want to be. This is the first time we hear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also enlisted others at the end of the movie when she made her speech. During that speech,
Judy says, try to make the world a better place by accepting and understanding others. By asking
the people of Zootopia to try to understand each other she is appealing to the shared aspiration of
making Zootopia safer and a place where you can be anything you want to be.
The third practice is challenge the process. According to Kouzes and Posner (2014), challenging
the process means to search for opportunities by seizing the initiative and by looking outward for
innovative ways to improve and experiment and take risks by constantly generating small wins
and learning from experience . Judy challenged the process by seizing the initiative and taking
the otter case, even when Chief Bogo didn t want her to take it. She also looked outwards by
enlisting Nick. By enlisting Nick, Judy found an innovative way to take on the case because
Nick was a criminal and thought like a criminal, therefore it gave Judy a new perspective. Judy
also challenged the process by and took a risk by becoming the first ever bunny cop. Judy
celebrated every small victory she had, she celebrated after every little clue they found about the
missing otter case. Throughout the whole movie, Judy was always challenging the process because
she was changing the status quo of what a bunny, and all animals, should be able to do.
The fourth practice is enable

The Abolition of Capital Punishment in Australia
Since the last execution in Australia in 1967 of Ronald Ryan and the abolition of capital
punishment in Australia in 1973 imprisonment has been the only option as a sanction for murder. A
survey conducted in 2009 demonstrated that a clear majority of Australians (64%) believed that
imprisonment should be the punishment for murderas opposed to 23% stating the death penalty
should be used and 13% did not wish to comment. The death penalty is not an effective punishment
for all cases and there has not been any solid evidence stating that it is a more effective deterrent
than imprisonment. Furthermore capital punishmentpossesses the risk of executing the innocent,
which has happened or almost happened numerous times in the past such as... Show more content

In fact, implementing capital punishment is much more expensive than life imprisonment. In a
government with capital punishment, both the trial and appeal process are much more expensive in
comparison to noncapital cases as the trials are generally longer and more complex. Australian
lawyers estimate that a single capital punishment case could cost taxpayers around $5.5 million
while life imprisonment approximately costs $1.5 million.2 Saving money should not be an
argument in retaining capital punishment. If Australia re instated capital punishment, Federal and
State taxes would need to be increased, all community services would be drastically cut, more
hidden taxes would be introduced and finally all essential services and local government costs
would also increase. This exemplifies how life imprisonment should be the only option for offences
as it not only costs millions less, it also still ensures that the public is protected and the money
saved could be spent on programs that actually improve the communities in which we live. This
highlights how international jurisdictions for various reasons should, in majority of cases, follow
Australia s example and abolish capital punishment for murder and all crimes, however in some
cases including repeat offenders such as Peter Dupas capital punishment could be a more effective
punishment.
Although in majority of cases capital punishment should not be an option worldwide, some
offenders have too high of a chance

Biometrics Security Essay
Biometrics Security
Biometrics uses personal characteristics to identify users. When it comes to security, mapping
unique patterns and traits in fingerprints, irises or voices is considered light years ahead of forcing
employees to memorize combination of letters and numbers which are easily compromised and
easily forgotten.
The technology works by taking measurements whether it is the weight and length of bones in the
hand or the pattern of blood vessels inside the eye or the pattern of fingerprints and then storing the
specifics, often called minutiae, in a database. When a user scans a hand or retina, the new
mapping is compared with the stored data. Access is either granted or denied based on matching

A boom in research and development largely driven by an increasing need for accurate forensics
has produced quality improvements and price reductions. A stand alone fingerprint reader might
have cost anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 two years ago, but now it can sell for less than $100.
Analysts say fingerprint scanning is the top biometric in terms of mind and market share, with hand
geometry coming in second, followed by face and iris scanning.
There s a growing crop of biometrics vendors expanding the market and pushing what was once
technology solely aimed at forensics and government security into the enterprise market.
Companies such as Identix of Sunnyvale, Calif., Veridicom of Santa Clara and Key Tronic in
Spokane, Wash., are taking biometrics corporate.
And they re catching the eye of industry giants like Compaq, which is embedding fingerprint

Sensory Division Research Paper
Sensory Input, Integration, and Motor Output Sensory receptors detect when a hot spoon touches
your skin which is caused by the sensory input. Once the receptors feel the input the nervous system
decides what to do about it; this is integration. Motor output is what is done about the input,
whether you scream or jerk away from the hot spoon. So the response that you get from the
integration is the motor output when is acts upon the body.
Central Nervous System
The central nervous system is made of the brain and spinal cord, where the brain is the control
center for integration and motor output.
Peripheral Nervous System
The PNS is all the nerves that come off of the brain and spine, acting as the communicator for the
rest of the body. The PNS can work in both directions.
Sensory Division
The afferent division, picks up sensory stimuli; telling the brain that something is happening to your
body. When the hot spoon touches your arm, the sensory division sends a message through the PNS
to the brain saying that s what s happening.
Motor Division
Also known as the efferent division, sends directions from your brain to the muscles and glands.
So when the hot spoon touches you and your sensory division sends the message of what s

variety. JC Penney offers clothing, bed and bath products, home items, clothing accessories, and
patio furniture. Clothing is the main area of production for JC Penney and accounts for more than
50% of sales.
Price: JC Penney has recently decided to move to three kinds of prices: everyday, monthly
specials, and clearances. They came to this strategy through a variety of studies. First, using
past sales data, the company looked at consumers actual purchasing behavior, and came up with
what it terms Fair and Square pricing, which means shoppers can expect lower prices in stores at
all times. To reach this conclusion, research showed 72% of JC Penney s revenue came from
selling items priced at least 50% off. Thus, in the example cited in most recent news stories
about the Fair and Square strategy, a T shirt that had retailed for US$14 but typically sold after
markdowns at US$6, would now be priced at a US$7 every day. Part two of Fair and Square
means monthly deals, and in the T shirt example,

Business Intelligence ( Bi )
Introduction How much will organizations spend on business intelligence (BI) in 2016?
According to Gartner, organizations are projected to spend almost $16.9 billion in 2016. That is
an increase of 5.2% over 2015 sales . Business Intelligence plays a big role in today s business, it
now used in every part of the organization from supply chain to human resources
(www.gartner.com). This paper will compare two business intelligence software tools. First, I will
define business intelligence (BI). Then, I will examine the features of each of the BI tools. Next, I
will discuss the pros and cons of each software. This paper will focus on the capabilities and costs
for each BI software. Lastly, this paper will indicates which choice was made and an explanation of
that choice. Business Intelligence (BI) According to Sauter (2010), business intelligence is defined
as a goal, information is provided to decision makers in a timely manner to solve organizational
problems or to act on opportunities for the organization. The business intelligence system aids
decision makers in better understanding problems through data. Business intelligence has become
necessary due to globalization and the rate of speed in which business is conducted today, 24/7.
Information alone, is not business intelligent. The information must be intelligent (p. 56).
Intelligent information is information that is important to the organization and aligns with the
organization s goal (Sauter, 2010). It

How Does Memory Affect The Development Of Middle Childhood
With each growing year a child s vocabulary increases. By the time children are six years old,
they have become proficient at the knowledge of basic grammar and vocabulary of their main
language. By this age group, children are speaking parts of speech such as nouns, verbs, and
adjectives. They are capable of learningup to twenty words a day and they become more flexible
and logical. Children can comprehend prefixes, suffixes, metaphors, and other figures of speech.
Because children can now understand and use metaphors, it becomes easier for them to reveal and
express their emotions. The best way for children to learn most of their vocabulary is through their
family and friends. Middle age children tend to learn best when in an environment with their friends
and family not in a class.
During middle childhood memory plays a large part in the child s developing and learning. Also,
memory improves significantly during this time period. At this age, all stages of memory are
affected by the development and experience of the child. Sensory memory, which is the first
element of memory, which improves slightly until the child reaches approximately ten years old,
and then remains sufficient until adulthood. Working memory improves steadily and significantly.
Working memory improves the most once in middle childhood because children of this... Show

Metacognition allows a child to evaluate how they may accomplish a task and then improve or
make adjustments to it if needed. Like most skills, metacognition improves with age and
experience. Metacognition is a cognitive skill and helps children during middle childhood by
helping them use their brains when completing a task or goal. If that task or goal is not
successfully done then the child can use more cognitive brain power to figure out how they can
improve it. Their ability to do this will help them in many situations from academic to social and

Lindbergh Case Study
The Lindbergh Case was one in which the whole world seemed to be following in 1932. Charles
Jr. was so easily swept away from his room and family in the middle of the night with little clues
to tell what and how it happened. This meant the involvement of the Criminal Justice System was
needed to try and find out who had taken their baby. These components include the Police, Court,
and eventually Corrections. Starting with the Police, or the detectives on the scene of the
abduction. For this particular incident there was involvement with New Jersey Police, New York
Police, and the F.B.I which at times caused some confusion. The detectives on the scene found
little evidence initially, this included a Ransom note and a broken ladder with some footprints
outside the house. Once reading the ransom note they found that it was written in a very childish
tone and a lot was misspelled. The Lindbergh family received many other Ransom notes in time
and found out that it was clear the abductor had planned this for a long time. Detectives working
the case also had to look into all possible suspects in the kidnapping, It started with the family
members themselves in which they had to take in all aspects, including Anne Lindbergh s sister
Elizabeth who was seen as physically and mentally ill. Next the three staff members of the estate
were looked into with great detail, including Betty Gow who was the last to see Charles Jr. In his
room, because of this her boyfriend was looked into

Symbolism Between C.S. LewisВґ The Lion, The Witch and The...
The symbolism between C.S. Lewis The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, the fourth book in
The Chronicles of Narnia, and the New Testament in the Bible, particularly the account of Jesus
death is not merely coincidental because The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is, in fact, an
allegory. An allegory is a story with morals in which characters, plots and settings are used as
symbols. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis is rich with Christian symbolism
even though the allegorical nature of it is the subject of much controversy. Nonetheless, The Lion,
The Witch and The Wardrobe is an allegory. In this tale, four ordinary children find a wardrobe that

Mr. and Mrs. Beaver are symbolic of guardian angels since they are forever trying to help the
Pevensies by guiding them to safety and leading them through the snow. Some critics also argue
that the Beavers are a representation of Moses. The fox represents people who do not seem to
be religious but when tested are proved to be very pious and like the fox, willing to give up their
lives for the sake of their beliefs. Aslan is symbolic to Jesus, God, and the goodness of the world.
C. S. Lewis seems to have taken the form or Aslan as a lion for the Bible as well. See, the Lion of
the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed (Revelations 5:5). Lewis tells the story of the
Paschal Mystery through Aslan.
The plots and settings of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe only further prove that Narnia
is an allegory. Edmund betraying Aslan is the same as us betraying God, yet Aslan as does God,
rescues Edmund and is prepared to give his life for him. Aslan knowing he has to die to give
Edmund life makes a treaty with the White Witch to sacrifice his life over Edmund s and
naturally, the White Witch is overjoyed and readily agrees, forgetting the deep magic . Christ

Christmas Angels Christmas in the Chapel has been a huge staple in my childhood, and every

Lincoln Christian Church. In January 2015, I was able to join their group, Praise Handmade,
and entered the Heavenlies , as we call it, that December. Our Head Angel , Angela, and three
other girls, Rebecca, Bethany, and Erin, were in my first group for two years, and they had done it
before. I was new to all of this, and I was the youngest and the smallest (I was 11 my first year);
being afraid of heights did not help at all.
The platform we were on was the highest part on the stage, and there was was nothing to keep us
from falling; the stage is about 15 feet into the air. During my first rehearsal on the stage, my skin
turned as pale as a ghost and my body was as still as a statue; I was completely petrified. When the
song was over, I moved to a lower level of the stage to calm down. One of the angels (I don t
remember who) asked me, Are you okay?
I told them I was fine, though I was still trembling a little bit from fear. How was I supposed to
do it in front of several people if I couldn t even rehearse up there without having a panic attack?
Thankfully, I soon got used to the height, though the first time up there every year still makes my
heart pound; I think it does for everyone. For my third year, I was able to look up for our last sign
for the very first time.

Comparing Sea Of Destruction In Deucalion And Phyrra
The non conceding waters wash over the lands, destroying all in their path. This is one thing
constant in all three stories of the flood. Yes, these stories are similar, but their differences are
great. How many days of destruction and chaos ensued? How was the boat of salvation
constructed? Who was chosen to survive? These stories all have different answers to these
questions. These differences, as well as the similarities, will be seen and the reasons these
stories have survived through history, revealed. In all of these stories, the waters of doom
reigned upon the Earth, but only for a given amount of time. Noah witnessed the power of
destruction for forty days and nights while Deucalion and Phyrra only suffered the ending of the
world for nine days and nights. Utnapishtim felt the sorrow of seeing his world be swept away for
just six days and nights. These people were given salvation because they were righteous and just,
but they were also given the worst punishment of all. They had to stand by and watch as their world

story was very specific as to what the dimensions were. The several gods in The Epic of Gilgamesh

build a vessel and nothing else. His dimensions were one acre at the base, each side of the deck

Canad A Case Of Good Governance And Good Luck
2008 Canada: a Case of Good Governance and Good Luck The global financial crisis of 2008
shook the pillars of economic institutes of nations all over the world including Canada. The
crisis caused the financial meltdown of various global financial organizations such as the
Lehman Brothers brought the US economy to its knees with matters being exacerbated by the
burst of the sub prime mortgage bubble. Financial markets including various banks went into
bankruptcy with governments having to chalk out large bailout packages and the reserve
parachute of financial reforms and regulations to stop the free fall of financial institutions. Asian
Markets had huge amounts of savings that they were itching to spend buying up US
government bonds which resulted in a fall in interest rates, as a result of lowered interest rates
bankers began to lend to creditors with poor banking histories, this lending was backed by credit
rating agencies who were far too generous in their triple A rating of credits that were in actuality
far more highly exposed. Banks as a result began betting on themselves with borrowed money,
there was an underlying assumption that the property bubble would remain steady or rise and
thus banks did not keep enough margins on their balance sheets to cover for losses and this was
exactly what happened. As the property bubble exploded there was an acute fall in prices and a
proportional rise in foreclosures. At this point banks had to revalue their assets and sell at fire

The Misconceptions Of Carbohydrates
Carbohydrate Misconception
Do not eat carbohydrates, they are bad for you! Everyone has heard this phrase before, either from
their parents, a health teacher or possibly an online source. However, contrary to popular belief, this
statement is extremely inaccurate. Carbohydrates are a crucial part of every diet as they administer
numerous health benefits, such as preventing the breakdown of muscle tissue and presenting the
body with energy and fiber.
To start with the basics, what exactly are carbohydrates? They are one of the three macronutrients,
meaning the human body cannot produce them on its own. Carbohydrates consist of sugars,
starches, and fibers, and are found in a substantial amount of foods such as fruits, grains, vegetables,

The health benefits of fiber are endless, but its main assets include lowering cholesterol,
controlling blood sugar and maintaining a healthy weight (Anderson et al., 2009). Lowering
cholesterol and heart health go hand in hand, as high cholesterol may lead to heart disease.
Soluble fibers work the most efficiently at lowering cholesterol, as they attach to pieces of fat in
the blood and remove them. Examples of soluble fibers include oats, barley, nuts, seeds, beans,
and some vegetables. Not only do they effectively lower overall cholesterol, but they especially
work to reduce bad low density lipoprotein, better known as LDL. LDL is the main contributor to
the blockage of arteries, so, therefore, cutting the levels of LDL will lead to less total buildup of
fat and a decreased chance of developing heart disease. Fiber also works to control blood sugar
levels. This can be extremely beneficial to individuals with diabetes, due to the fact that they
produce inadequate amounts of insulin. Consequently, resulting in them having to monitor blood
sugar levels on their own. Often times simple carbohydrates will lead to quick spikes in blood
sugar. However, this is not an issue with complex carbohydrates, since fiber counteracts them by
slowing the absorption of glucose. As a result, blood sugar levels will not immediately rise, making
it less difficult

Effectiveness Of The United Nations
The United Nations was designed to promote peace by preventing future global conflicts between
the two great powers (Trachman, 2005, p. 382). Since then, the United Nations has made
peacekeeping operations acceptable to member states who would not otherwise have accepted
foreign troops on their territory on the auspice of breaching their sovereignty (Goulding, 1993, p.
454). Since then the United NationsPeacekeepingoperations has expanded to six different types of
operations. Preventive deployment, traditional peacekeeping, implementation of a comprehensive
settlement, humanitarian relief protection, institutional assistance and ceasefire enforcement are
all applied now by the United Nations (Goulding, 1993, p. 460). And to think, the word
peacekeeping does not even appear in the 1945 charter. Measuring the effectiveness of the United
Nations Peacekeeping Organization is daunting because of the evolving geopolitical atmosphere.
It would be easier to measure its effectiveness in one situation in the past. In 1945, the United
Nations charter is sensible (Trachman, 2005, p. 381). Encouraging states to work together and
creating this forum for the superpowers to make decisions was theoretically ideal. But today the
major threat does not come from one of the superpowers but terrorism, weapons of mass
destruction, or a weaker rogue nation (Trachman, 2005, p. 382). All of which do not answer to the
constraints of the UN Charter. It is this purpose of reviewing the past

Who Invented The Atomic Bomb
Throughout all of history, humans have been creating weapons for waging war against one and
another or to protect something that is important to them. Over time, the weapons that humans use
have gone from just a simple wooden club, to a forged sword, and to high power firearms.
However, throughout history none of the weapons created led to a stalemate among any of the
world s super powers until the mid twentieth century with the development of the atomic bomb by
the United Statesand the Soviet Union. The reason why the development of the atomic bomb led to
a stalemate has to do with the idea of mutually assured destruction. The idea behind mutually
assured destruction is that if one country attacks with atomic weapons then the country being...

There are several types of atomic bombs and the types changed based on how the bomb will
achieve critical mass. The first type of an atomic bomb would be the gun type fission bomb which
was drop on the city of Hiroshima during World WarII. Scientists and the military believed that
the gun type bomb was so reliable that they did not test it before dropping it on the city of
Hiroshima. The gun type bomb contained two piece of uranium at both ends of a barrel, and
when the two piece of uranium are brought together it creates a chain reaction leading it to reach
supercritical mass. [5] The second type of an atomic bomb would be the implosion fission bomb
which was drop on the city of Nagasaki and tested during the project Trinity. The implosion type
bomb contained a neutron core, a plutonium pit, a uranium tamper, and a layer of burning
explosive. [5] Therefore, when the neutron core is crushed it releases neutrons into the plutonium
pit which creates a chain reaction leading it to reach supercritical mass. [5] The third type of an
atomic bomb would be the boosted fission bomb which was tested during Operation Greenhouse.
The boosted fusion bomb utilized the same layer system from the implosion bomb, but in the
fissile core a small amount of deuterium/tritium gas is added to cause the boost in blast yield. [5]
The fourth type of an atomic bomb would be the staged radiation implosion bomb

Essay on Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven
Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven
Edgar Allan Poe uses several writing techniques to create a single concentrated effect of unending
despair in his classic poem, The Raven. The most noticeable technique is the use of repetition. Just
as repeated exposure to cold raindrops can chill one to the bone, repeated exposure to words of
hopelessness and gloom creates a chilling effect. Poe saturates the reader with desperate futility by
repetitive use of the words nothing more and nevermore. These two phrases, used in refrain to end
seventeen of the poem s eighteen stanzas, drench the reader with melancholy. Poe also uses
repetition to spark the reader s curiosity. He refers to the sound of rapping or tapping eight times in

This rare radiance stands in stark contrast to the grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous raven
who now never leaves his chamber (71). Lenore is referred to as a sainted maiden (94), whereas the
raven is referred to as a prophet! and a thing of evil! (85, 91). The radiance of Lenore is contrasted
with the speaker s soul, which he describes as being under a shadow (107). These contrasts serve to
draw attention to the most significant contrast described in the poem: an intelligent, well read,
loving man interprets a bird seeking shelter on a cold night as an emblem of never ending anguish
and succumbs to depression and madness.
Poe masterfully chooses his words to create an effect. He introduces the idea that the tapping is
caused by something at his window lattice (33) followed by Let me see, then, what thereat is (34).
His choice of the word thereat is interesting in that it suggests the word threat . The sharp t sound
at the end of thereat conjures the sound of pecking on glass. The experience of hearing what the
speaker hears serves to increase the bond the reader feels with the speaker.
Poe s masterful alliteration likewise creates mood as exhibited in the phrase, And the silken sad
uncertain (13). These words are not commonly used together. The repetitive s sound forces the
reader to hesitate when reading the line, leading the reader to identify with the uncertainty that the
speaker is experiencing. In a similar way, the

High Performance Teams
In today s business world, more and more organizations are moving away from the use of
individual work assignments to a combination of manager led and self directing teams. These
businesses are relying on groups of unique individuals to come together and work on a common
goal with a shared purpose. The ultimate goal for these teams are to produce more than what the
individuals could do separately. In order for those teams to accomplish this, they must become high
performance teams. High performance teams consist of a small number of individuals with
complementary skills, who are committed to a specific goal and mutually agree to hold each other

If it is a known fact that individuals tend to compare themselves to each other, then why are leaders
in organizations so surprised that conflict, rivalry, or competition amongst teammembers occurs?
Part of the reason is because while organizations have changed their thinking from an individualistic
form of production to a collectivist form of teams, they have failed to change their form of
recognition, incentives, motives, and culture to match. Organizations are promoting the idea of
teams and working together for a common goal and purpose, all while offering incentives that are
unchanged from the original idea of individual motivation and it is creating competition rather than
the cooperation that they need for high performance teams (Beersma, Hollenbeck, Humphrey,
Moon, Conlon, Ilgen, 2003). Unfortunately, there has been considerable controversy over the idea
of competition and cooperation in teams. Some research shows that competition is beneficial,
while others show that it creates the conflict organizations are trying to avoid. Therefore, it is
important to examine the idea of competition and cooperation and seek to decide which is better to
pursue. According to Scarborough (2012) one of the best qualities of business leaders or
entrepreneurs is a competitive nature. So, if

Music And Culture Of Los Angeles
At the beginning of the twenty first century, popular music and culture became significant
influences on the lives of many individuals within the city of Los Angeles. East Los Angeles ( East
L.A. or the Eastside ), in particular, was a center of flourishing musical, cultural, and social scenes
with strong connections to the changing Chicano/a identity. Under this environment in which the
Chicano movement (moviemiento) continued to prevail, a large number of socially aware and
politically active, Latin fusion Chicano bands were developed. One of such was the Ozomatliband,
who strived to express their activist viewpoints through popular music. The spatial context of the
band s emergence, their links to past musical movements, and their implementation of a wide
array of musical styles and genres all define their impact on Chicano identity in Los Angeles.
Through their music, the Ozomatli band has showed much about the importance of the
changing Chicano culture and served as the framework for cultural and social dynamics of
present day Los Angeles. Ozomatli, which originated in Los Angeles, California, is a six piece
(six person), all male band that was formed in 1995. The name Ozomatli is derived from the
Nahuatl (Uto Aztecan language) word for the Aztec god of dance who is represented as a monkey
figure in the famous Aztec Sun Stone ( The Battle of Los Angeles 725). This band plays a variety
and mixture of genres, from classic to modern Latino, urban, hip hop and

Detection And Treatment Of Malocclusions And Other Dental...
Abstract
Detection and treatment of malocclusions and other dental deformities are a considerable field of
work in the plan of orthodontic treatment. Severe malformations of the midface such as maxillary
or mandibular deformity can be treated by the distraction and reformation of skull bones. During an
operation, the appropriate bony part of the mid face is separated from the rest of the skull
(osteotomy), slowly moved into the ideal position by way of a distraction device. In the current
clinical practice, planning for orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery was based on
Computed Tomography (CT) data sets. CT images are inefficient for helping the orthodontists and
surgeons in treatment and surgical planning. A tool is needed to help the physicians and surgeons
in the treatment planning in order to anticipate the results and give the accurate decision, in this
paper there are preliminary descriptive studies on DICOM images of the skull to help the
orthodontists by providing the following algorithms: Segmentation of the lower jaw (mandible),
Segmentation of the upper jaw (maxilla) from CT data, Segmentation of upper teeth, each tooth and
computation of mandible volume.
Keywords: CT scans, threshold, K mean, Region growing, DICOM.
Introduction
The need for clear images of cranial morphology has an important role in the progress of treatment
and planning for craniofacial surgery [1]. Improvements in three dimensional (3D) imaging [2]

Animals Treated Animals
Should animals continue to be treated as property? In the law they don t, but I think they should.
Animals are beings with emotions; therefore, they should be respected. Animals should not be used
in the circus because the animals in this are being incarcerated. They are being forced to do
unnatural things so they can avoid the animal abuse used in training. Trophy huntingshould stay
legal for the simple fact that this is how must wildlife conservations are funded. It s easy for us to
criticize them as inhumane, but how else can poor countries get the money needed to fund this.
Sometimes the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Also, I agree that livestock are
raised to be eaten and should be, but I don t agree with the ways that we treat them. We should treat
them with respect both before and during slaughter. While animals in the eyes of the law are seen
as property, this does not mean that man should be cruel to animals. They are beings that should be
respected.
In a perfect world, circuses would ban the use of entertainment animals. When one buys a ticket to
visit the circus, they are contributing to animal cruelty. Circuses use violence to train the animals,
so that they can do demeaning acts. It is not natural for elephants to balance themselves on a ball,
or for tigers to jump through rings of fire. During all the acts, the training will stand off to the side
with a whip ready to beat the animal when they don t want to perform. Circuses claim that they

Frantz Fanon
Frantz Fanon was a deeply involved and diligent philosopher who recognized the separation and
relations between the oppressed and the oppressors as well as the fight for freedom. He
specifically speaks on Algeria as the colonized, facing the French who were the colonizers. Fanon
was writing mainly during the 1940 s 60 when decolonization was becoming popular. Fanon was
greatly involved in the decolonization struggle, and in his book The Wretched of the Earth, Fanon
explains and observes the ways in which the colonized shall attempt to declare their rights from the
colonizers. Fanon believed that the only way for the colonized to earn their independence, they
would have to violently rebel against the colonizers. The famous movie or book... Show more

Before they begin celebrating, the Capitol diminishes the rule that was previously in place, which
allowed for two winners from the same district, and returned to the original rule in which only one
tribute shall be crowned victor. Neither Katniss nor Peeta gave in to the controlling and evil plans
of the Capitol, which called for either of them to turn on the other, and Katniss unselfishly
suggested that they both eat the poisonous Nightlock berries, leaving no victor. Here they both
demonstrate great courage and passion, as they are about to eat the berries when the Capitol gives
in and allows them both to be victorious. Katniss and Peeta defy that violence is necessary to gain
their independence as Fanon suggests. Rather than violently fighting until one of them remains,
they understand that if this were to happen the Capitol would have been pleased; however, instead
Peeta and Katniss use peace and intellect to first act on what would strongly annoy the Capitol,
having no winner, forcing the Capitol to have the final decision, two winners or no winners. Living
under the totalitarian rule of the Capitol, participating in these games in which, the most important
key to survival is to kill, Katniss and Peeta definitively defied Fanon and provided a strong,
symbolic message to all of the districts and the Capitol that change was headed its way. Frantz

How Did Architecture Influence Roman Architecture
Roman architects did not invent the Arch nor for that matter concrete, but they did however refine
and apply these key architectural techniques and materials to sublime effect we will explore the
impact the use of these two elements had on the development of Roman architecture, how they
affected everyday life in Romeand the results of their use. .
Some of the earliest evidence of the application of the arch date back to the second millennium
BCE, the Romans adopted it from other cultures and were drawn to a number of key attributes of
this shape. A popular parlour trick for illusionists is to place a crate of eggs between two solid
surfaces and place a large weight on top of it, sometimes an adult. Counter intuitively the eggs do

The resultant aggregate was very strong and durable as the numerous examples of structures
constructed using it that exist even into the present age attests. The importance of the use of concrete
by the Romans cannot be understated. Concrete allowed Roman engineers to create great
commercial structures that would not otherwise have been possible for example the port of
Caesarea which employed under water concrete technology on a large scale. In addition to the
system of aqueducts, concrete technology allowed Roman engineers to create networks of dams,
canals and cisterns that played a vital role in irrigation and feeding Rome s populace. Rome also
constructed a number of military installations including walls and strategic garrisons which helped
to defend her citizens. The construction of strategic bridges also helped logistically in moving
Roman forces across her empire which allowed her to maintain a military dominance that lasted for
centuries. Roman concrete also allowed for the creation of grand temples, baths and public
buildings that helped maintain social cohesion, supported the political system and influenced the
Roman psyche engendering a pride and confidence which no doubt played a vital role in
developing the Roman

How Hockney Changed Photography
David Hockney experimented heavily with photo collage in 1982 1987, creating works of art
called joiners. Joiners accidentally occurred when he was working on one of his paintings of his
living room and terrace in Los Angeles, as he took Polaroid shots of the living room and glued
them together as a preparatory work, not intending for them to build a composition of their own.
Upon this finding he enjoyed the final composition and he realised that he could take this
somewhere and he began to work more and more with composition and Polaroid photographs.
Being very interested with this work and he would take a series of photographs selected carefully
and arranging them in the right way, Hockney was able to change the shapes and the space within ...

So he takes more as everything changes over time and he finds it very hard to stick with one
picture. I feel that sometimes when doing these kind of photographs Hockney has pushed the
boundaries and has expanded on the possibilities that the art can be presented in the same way
using different technology and is now see as Cubism and an abstract style of modern art.
Hockney developed the ability to take an ordinary scene and develop it through photographs and
paint into something incredibly pleasing for the viewers to appreciate. Hockney is able to develop
such scenes immediately earned Hockney a place among contemporary artists of his time.
Other people have become so interested in his work that they have started to produce their own
photographs and sometimes the technique and media are used on movie posters and or album
posters. The technique of Joiners is very much more important now than it was back then. But I do
really enjoy his work and I feel very strongly about the technique myself.
Whilst this photograph is physically larger than what he us used to and produces, his work is an
abstraction in a combination with minimalism, with such a combination of which Hockney is able
to move closer to the world of art. Hockney s work is very popular and inspires everyone to try out
the technique and also comes under part of the cubism

Harry Harlow s Study On Attachment In Monkeys
For my project, I made banana bread to represent my psychologist, Harry Harlow. He is most
known for his work in developmental psychology, basing his studies on attachment in infants.
Harlow removed infant monkeys from their mothers and placed them in two different groups. For
the first group, the monkeys were presented with a terrycloth mother that provided no food and one
with a hard wire mesh that provided food (milk through a bottle). In the second group, the monkeys
were presented with a terrycloth mother that provided food and a wired one that did not. Harlow
discovered that the infant monkeystuck close to the terrycloth mother, whether or not it provided
food. The monkey would even stay with the cloth mother and ignore the food. Thus,

  • 2. Marx Theory Of Reserve Army Of Labour , rather than reducing migration, economic development increases migration. Marx theory of reserve army of labour is central to what he has to say about capitalism and workers wages; the proletariat. Most migrants in society today migrate to the US and end up working in factories where they manage machinery. Marx theory illustrates how capitalist industries consists of two parts the machinery and the workers. Capitalist industries expand by sukingin their workers to operate the machinery, upping their wages and attracting more of them. By doing so the worker is necessary to satisfy the needs of the machinery, rather than industry existing to satisfy the worker s need. This process illustrates how capitalismexploits workers for their labour. Yet migration provides the capitalist industry with a wide array of wage labour. Scholar Jeff Manza explains how higher pay depends on whether or not the product is profitable for the capitalist who owns the machinery to employ workers to operate. Marx draws the conclusion that capitalism is the first economic system in which there can be too many workers, with a large sum coming from migration as migrants are in search of economic development. The influx of migrants to the US continues to create a class of uneducated proletarians who remain unconscious of their role in unpaid labour. Immigrants become the primary source of cheap labour. migrant labour has become manipulated in the world markets by successful capitalist countries, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Agriculture During the Industrial Revolution many major improvements were made to fundamental areas in society such as agriculture, textile and metal manufacturing, transportation, economic policies, and social structure (Montagna, The Industrial Revolution). Changes within the agriculture industry were a central part of industrial change due to the large position that agriculture contributed to raw materials in the textile industry. Agriculture specifically gave to the demand for products such as wool and cotton which contributed to the production of cloth. Additionally, the advancement of metal allowed for better farming tools which allowed for technical advancements in the way that crops were harvested. The ultimate importance in the changes made to the agriculture industry revolved around food availability. The changes in technology and advancements in crop rotation made it possible to feed large populations of people. Welfare Reform For Drug Test Recipients Essay Pretend you are in kindergarten again and you have just won your favorite bag of candy for behaving yourself in class all week, and right when the teacher presents you with your glorious prize a fellow classmate, which had already been to the principals twice that week, comes up and asks for a piece. You do not want to give him a piece because you worked hard for it and he broke the rules so he does not deserve it, but then he goes to complain to the teacher and she says you have to share with him. Would you be upset if you worked hard to obey the rules to win a bag of candy, and then you find out that you could have gotten a piece anyways? This is exactly how many taxpayers feel about welfare recipients that refuse to take drug test prior to receiving their welfare checks. Since 1996 there has been a call for welfare reform to drug test recipients prior to admission, but any attempts have been unsuccessful because they are viewed as a violation of the fourth amendment, more harmful for children, and an unnecessary expense. These common fallacies have been the main arguments leading the anti drug testing campaign, but in the past few years many taxpayers have grown increasingly tired of their money being given to undeserving individuals, although there has not been a clear solution to please all parties. • 10. How Does Mamet Use Language 1.What is Mamet exploring about how we use language and why, and how it affects us? Mamet explores how humans use language as it is an extremely intricate device as it is based on how we, as individuals, interpret it. For example, one person may have a good intention in saying something; however, the person on the receiving end of that good intention may believe that something negative is being said. Our words and actions are the sum of the past experiences in our lives. As a result, there are many misinterpretations in human language which makes it extremely complicated. This is because the law unintentionally bends and changes when physical features differentiate as a result of deeper discriminations and prejudices rooted deep in history. For example, if John was black, the law may view him as more of a threat simply because of the colour of his skin. Although it is not admitted, many of our thoughts of those in society that differ from us are a result of very old prejudices that our ancestors once carried. To further this idea, if Carol was a black woman and John was a white man, John may have even been at a greater disadvantage. This is because today s society may subconsciously believe that an educated black woman is already at a disadvantage, thus there would be no reason for her to lie. Now, if the roles were reversed and a woman was the educator, and a man was at a student. The student would be much more disadvantaged simply because men do not typically report being sexually harassed by women as a result of fearing the loss of masculinity. If the sexual preference of either of the two characters was changed, it may have supported either side as individuals with a minority sexual preference are sometimes pitied, possibly in the court of law. While reading the chapter, one thing that surprised me was The Contract Labor Law. This law gave business bring in foreign workers that provided a source of cheap labor and workers to fill in the spots that strikers left (Zinn, 165). This law rewards business while punishing its workers. It s saying that industries value money and power more than the well being of their workers, which isn t right. The third practice is challenge the process. Judy challenged the process by seizing the initiative and taking the otter case, even when Chief Bogo didn t want her to take it. She also looked outwards by enlisting Nick. In fact, implementing capital punishment is much more expensive than life imprisonment. In a government with capital punishment, both the trial and appeal process are much more expensive in comparison to noncapital cases as the trials are generally longer and more complex. Australian lawyers estimate that a single capital punishment case could cost taxpayers around $5.5 million while life imprisonment approximately costs $1.5 million.2 Saving money should not be an argument in retaining capital punishment. If Australia re instated capital punishment, Federal and State taxes would need to be increased, all community services would be drastically cut, more hidden taxes would be introduced and finally all essential services and local government costs would also increase. This exemplifies how life imprisonment should be the only option for offences as it not only costs millions less, it also still ensures that the public is protected and the money saved could be spent on programs that actually improve the communities in which we live. This highlights how international jurisdictions for various reasons should, in majority of cases, follow Australia s example and abolish capital punishment for murder and all crimes, however in some cases including repeat offenders such as Peter Dupas capital punishment could be a more effective punishment. • 21. How Does Memory Affect The Development Of Middle Childhood With each growing year a child s vocabulary increases. By the time children are six years old, they have become proficient at the knowledge of basic grammar and vocabulary of their main language. By this age group, children are speaking parts of speech such as nouns, verbs, and adjectives. They are capable of learningup to twenty words a day and they become more flexible and logical. Children can comprehend prefixes, suffixes, metaphors, and other figures of speech. Because children can now understand and use metaphors, it becomes easier for them to reveal and express their emotions. The best way for children to learn most of their vocabulary is through their family and friends. Middle age children tend to learn best when in an environment with their friends and family not in a class. During middle childhood memory plays a large part in the child s developing and learning. Also, memory improves significantly during this time period. At this age, all stages of memory are affected by the development and experience of the child. • 22. Lindbergh Case Study The Lindbergh Case was one in which the whole world seemed to be following in 1932. Charles Jr. was so easily swept away from his room and family in the middle of the night with little clues to tell what and how it happened. This meant the involvement of the Criminal Justice System was needed to try and find out who had taken their baby. These components include the Police, Court, and eventually Corrections. Starting with the Police, or the detectives on the scene of the abduction. For this particular incident there was involvement with New Jersey Police, New York Police, and the F.B.I which at times caused some confusion. The detectives on the scene found little evidence initially, this included a Ransom note and a broken ladder with some footprints outside the house. Once reading the ransom note they found that it was written in a very childish tone and a lot was misspelled. The Lindbergh family received many other Ransom notes in time and found out that it was clear the abductor had planned this for a long time. Detectives working the case also had to look into all possible suspects in the kidnapping, It started with the family members themselves in which they had to take in all aspects, including Anne Lindbergh s sister Elizabeth who was seen as physically and mentally ill. Next the three staff members of the estate were looked into with great detail, including Betty Gow who was the last to see Charles Jr. In his room, because of this her boyfriend was looked into ... Lewis The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, the fourth book in The Chronicles of Narnia, and the New Testament in the Bible, particularly the account of Jesus death is not merely coincidental because The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is, in fact, an allegory. An allegory is a story with morals in which characters, plots and settings are used as symbols. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, by C.S. Aslan is symbolic to Jesus, God, and the goodness of the world. C. S. Lewis seems to have taken the form or Aslan as a lion for the Bible as well. See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed (Revelations 5:5). Lewis tells the story of the Paschal Mystery through Aslan. In January 2015, I was able to join their group, Praise Handmade, and entered the Heavenlies , as we call it, that December. Our Head Angel , Angela, and three other girls, Rebecca, Bethany, and Erin, were in my first group for two years, and they had done it before. I was new to all of this, and I was the youngest and the smallest (I was 11 my first year); being afraid of heights did not help at all. The platform we were on was the highest part on the stage, and there was was nothing to keep us from falling; the stage is about 15 feet into the air. During my first rehearsal on the stage, my skin turned as pale as a ghost and my body was as still as a statue; I was completely petrified. When the song was over, I moved to a lower level of the stage to calm down. One of the angels (I don t remember who) asked me, Are you okay? I told them I was fine, though I was still trembling a little bit from fear. How was I supposed to do it in front of several people if I couldn t even rehearse up there without having a panic attack? Canad A Case Of Good Governance And Good Luck 2008 Canada: a Case of Good Governance and Good Luck The global financial crisis of 2008 shook the pillars of economic institutes of nations all over the world including Canada. The crisis caused the financial meltdown of various global financial organizations such as the Lehman Brothers brought the US economy to its knees with matters being exacerbated by the burst of the sub prime mortgage bubble. Financial markets including various banks went into bankruptcy with governments having to chalk out large bailout packages and the reserve parachute of financial reforms and regulations to stop the free fall of financial institutions. Asian Markets had huge amounts of savings that they were itching to spend buying up US government bonds which resulted in a fall in interest rates, as a result of lowered interest rates bankers began to lend to creditors with poor banking histories, this lending was backed by credit rating agencies who were far too generous in their triple A rating of credits that were in actuality far more highly exposed. Banks as a result began betting on themselves with borrowed money, there was an underlying assumption that the property bubble would remain steady or rise and thus banks did not keep enough margins on their balance sheets to cover for losses and this was exactly what happened. Carbohydrates are a crucial part of every diet as they administer numerous health benefits, such as preventing the breakdown of muscle tissue and presenting the body with energy and fiber. To start with the basics, what exactly are carbohydrates? They are one of the three macronutrients, meaning the human body cannot produce them on its own. The health benefits of fiber are endless, but its main assets include lowering cholesterol, controlling blood sugar and maintaining a healthy weight (Anderson et al., 2009). Lowering cholesterol and heart health go hand in hand, as high cholesterol may lead to heart disease. Soluble fibers work the most efficiently at lowering cholesterol, as they attach to pieces of fat in the blood and remove them. Examples of soluble fibers include oats, barley, nuts, seeds, beans, and some vegetables. Not only do they effectively lower overall cholesterol, but they especially work to reduce bad low density lipoprotein, better known as LDL. LDL is the main contributor to the blockage of arteries, so, therefore, cutting the levels of LDL will lead to less total buildup of fat and a decreased chance of developing heart disease. Fiber also works to control blood sugar levels. This can be extremely beneficial to individuals with diabetes, due to the fact that they produce inadequate amounts of insulin. Consequently, resulting in them having to monitor blood sugar levels on their own. Often times simple carbohydrates will lead to quick spikes in blood sugar. However, this is not an issue with complex carbohydrates, since fiber counteracts them by slowing the absorption of glucose. As a result, blood sugar levels will not immediately rise, making it less difficult ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since then, the United Nations has made peacekeeping operations acceptable to member states who would not otherwise have accepted foreign troops on their territory on the auspice of breaching their sovereignty (Goulding, 1993, p. 454). Since then the United NationsPeacekeepingoperations has expanded to six different types of operations. Preventive deployment, traditional peacekeeping, implementation of a comprehensive settlement, humanitarian relief protection, institutional assistance and ceasefire enforcement are all applied now by the United Nations (Goulding, 1993, p. 460). And to think, the word peacekeeping does not even appear in the 1945 charter. Measuring the effectiveness of the United Nations Peacekeeping Organization is daunting because of the evolving geopolitical atmosphere. It would be easier to measure its effectiveness in one situation in the past. In 1945, the United Nations charter is sensible (Trachman, 2005, p. 381). Encouraging states to work together and creating this forum for the superpowers to make decisions was theoretically ideal. But today the major threat does not come from one of the superpowers but terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, or a weaker rogue nation (Trachman, 2005, p. 382). However, throughout history none of the weapons created led to a stalemate among any of the world s super powers until the mid twentieth century with the development of the atomic bomb by the United Statesand the Soviet Union. Essay on Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven Edgar Allan Poe uses several writing techniques to create a single concentrated effect of unending despair in his classic poem, The Raven. The most noticeable technique is the use of repetition. Just as repeated exposure to cold raindrops can chill one to the bone, repeated exposure to words of hopelessness and gloom creates a chilling effect. Poe saturates the reader with desperate futility by repetitive use of the words nothing more and nevermore. These two phrases, used in refrain to end seventeen of the poem s eighteen stanzas, drench the reader with melancholy. Poe also uses repetition to spark the reader s curiosity. This rare radiance stands in stark contrast to the grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous raven who now never leaves his chamber (71). Lenore is referred to as a sainted maiden (94), whereas the raven is referred to as a prophet! and a thing of evil! (85, 91). The radiance of Lenore is contrasted with the speaker s soul, which he describes as being under a shadow (107). These contrasts serve to draw attention to the most significant contrast described in the poem: an intelligent, well read, loving man interprets a bird seeking shelter on a cold night as an emblem of never ending anguish and succumbs to depression and madness. Poe masterfully chooses his words to create an effect. He introduces the idea that the tapping is caused by something at his window lattice (33) followed by Let me see, then, what thereat is (34). His choice of the word thereat is interesting in that it suggests the word threat . The sharp t sound at the end of thereat conjures the sound of pecking on glass. The experience of hearing what the speaker hears serves to increase the bond the reader feels with the speaker. Poe s masterful alliteration likewise creates mood as exhibited in the phrase, And the silken sad uncertain (13). These words are not commonly used together. The repetitive s sound forces the reader to hesitate when reading the line, leading the reader to identify with the uncertainty that the speaker is experiencing. In a similar way, the ... If it is a known fact that individuals tend to compare themselves to each other, then why are leaders in organizations so surprised that conflict, rivalry, or competition amongst teammembers occurs? Part of the reason is because while organizations have changed their thinking from an individualistic form of production to a collectivist form of teams, they have failed to change their form of recognition, incentives, motives, and culture to match. Organizations are promoting the idea of teams and working together for a common goal and purpose, all while offering incentives that are unchanged from the original idea of individual motivation and it is creating competition rather than the cooperation that they need for high performance teams (Beersma, Hollenbeck, Humphrey, Moon, Conlon, Ilgen, 2003). Unfortunately, there has been considerable controversy over the idea of competition and cooperation in teams. Some research shows that competition is beneficial, while others show that it creates the conflict organizations are trying to avoid. Trophy huntingshould stay legal for the simple fact that this is how must wildlife conservations are funded. It s easy for us to criticize them as inhumane, but how else can poor countries get the money needed to fund this. Sometimes the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Also, I agree that livestock are raised to be eaten and should be, but I don t agree with the ways that we treat them. We should treat them with respect both before and during slaughter. While animals in the eyes of the law are seen as property, this does not mean that man should be cruel to animals. They are beings that should be respected. In a perfect world, circuses would ban the use of entertainment animals. When one buys a ticket to visit the circus, they are contributing to animal cruelty. Circuses use violence to train the animals, so that they can do demeaning acts. It is not natural for elephants to balance themselves on a ball, or for tigers to jump through rings of fire. During all the acts, the training will stand off to the side with a whip ready to beat the animal when they don t want to perform. Circuses claim that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Frantz Fanon Frantz Fanon was a deeply involved and diligent philosopher who recognized the separation and relations between the oppressed and the oppressors as well as the fight for freedom. He specifically speaks on Algeria as the colonized, facing the French who were the colonizers. Fanon was writing mainly during the 1940 s 60 when decolonization was becoming popular. Fanon was greatly involved in the decolonization struggle, and in his book The Wretched of the Earth, Fanon explains and observes the ways in which the colonized shall attempt to declare their rights from the colonizers. Fanon believed that the only way for the colonized to earn their independence, they would have to violently rebel against the colonizers. The famous movie or book... Before they begin celebrating, the Capitol diminishes the rule that was previously in place, which allowed for two winners from the same district, and returned to the original rule in which only one tribute shall be crowned victor. Neither Katniss nor Peeta gave in to the controlling and evil plans of the Capitol, which called for either of them to turn on the other, and Katniss unselfishly suggested that they both eat the poisonous Nightlock berries, leaving no victor. Here they both demonstrate great courage and passion, as they are about to eat the berries when the Capitol gives in and allows them both to be victorious. Katniss and Peeta defy that violence is necessary to gain their independence as Fanon suggests. Rather than violently fighting until one of them remains, they understand that if this were to happen the Capitol would have been pleased; however, instead Peeta and Katniss use peace and intellect to first act on what would strongly annoy the Capitol, having no winner, forcing the Capitol to have the final decision, two winners or no winners. Living under the totalitarian rule of the Capitol, participating in these games in which, the most important key to survival is to kill, Katniss and Peeta definitively defied Fanon and provided a strong, symbolic message to all of the districts and the Capitol that change was headed its way. • 41. How Did Architecture Influence Roman Architecture Roman architects did not invent the Arch nor for that matter concrete, but they did however refine and apply these key architectural techniques and materials to sublime effect we will explore the impact the use of these two elements had on the development of Roman architecture, how they affected everyday life in Romeand the results of their use. . Some of the earliest evidence of the application of the arch date back to the second millennium BCE, the Romans adopted it from other cultures and were drawn to a number of key attributes of this shape. A popular parlour trick for illusionists is to place a crate of eggs between two solid surfaces and place a large weight on top of it, sometimes an adult. Counter intuitively the eggs do not break ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The resultant aggregate was very strong and durable as the numerous examples of structures constructed using it that exist even into the present age attests. The importance of the use of concrete by the Romans cannot be understated. Concrete allowed Roman engineers to create great commercial structures that would not otherwise have been possible for example the port of Caesarea which employed under water concrete technology on a large scale. In addition to the system of aqueducts, concrete technology allowed Roman engineers to create networks of dams, canals and cisterns that played a vital role in irrigation and feeding Rome s populace. Rome also constructed a number of military installations including walls and strategic garrisons which helped to defend her citizens. The construction of strategic bridges also helped logistically in moving Roman forces across her empire which allowed her to maintain a military dominance that lasted for centuries. Roman concrete also allowed for the creation of grand temples, baths and public buildings that helped maintain social cohesion, supported the political system and influenced the Roman psyche engendering a pride and confidence which no doubt played a vital role in developing the Roman ... • 42. How Hockney Changed Photography David Hockney experimented heavily with photo collage in 1982 1987, creating works of art called joiners. Joiners accidentally occurred when he was working on one of his paintings of his living room and terrace in Los Angeles, as he took Polaroid shots of the living room and glued them together as a preparatory work, not intending for them to build a composition of their own. Upon this finding he enjoyed the final composition and he realised that he could take this somewhere and he began to work more and more with composition and Polaroid photographs. Being very interested with this work and he would take a series of photographs selected carefully and arranging them in the right way, Hockney was able to change the shapes and the space within ... I feel that sometimes when doing these kind of photographs Hockney has pushed the boundaries and has expanded on the possibilities that the art can be presented in the same way using different technology and is now see as Cubism and an abstract style of modern art. Hockney developed the ability to take an ordinary scene and develop it through photographs and paint into something incredibly pleasing for the viewers to appreciate. Hockney is able to develop such scenes immediately earned Hockney a place among contemporary artists of his time. Other people have become so interested in his work that they have started to produce their own photographs and sometimes the technique and media are used on movie posters and or album posters. The technique of Joiners is very much more important now than it was back then. But I do really enjoy his work and I feel very strongly about the technique myself. Whilst this photograph is physically larger than what he us used to and produces, his work is an abstraction in a combination with minimalism, with such a combination of which Hockney is able to move closer to the world of art. Hockney s work is very popular and inspires everyone to try out the technique and also comes under part of the cubism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Harry Harlow s Study On Attachment In Monkeys For my project, I made banana bread to represent my psychologist, Harry Harlow. He is most known for his work in developmental psychology, basing his studies on attachment in infants. Harlow removed infant monkeys from their mothers and placed them in two different groups. For the first group, the monkeys were presented with a terrycloth mother that provided no food and one with a hard wire mesh that provided food (milk through a bottle). In the second group, the monkeys were presented with a terrycloth mother that provided food and a wired one that did not. Harlow discovered that the infant monkeystuck close to the terrycloth mother, whether or not it provided food. The monkey would even stay with the cloth mother and ignore the food. Thus, ...
