The Tobacco Industry And The United States
The tobacco industry in the United States has expanded immensely over the past century, and is one of
the leading cash crops in the country. Cigarettes held the largest margin in the market with an average
of over 65% in overall sales. The United States tobacco market held a total revenue of $161.3 billion
in 2014, this is one of the largest industries in the world for a single country. There are four major
companies that run the mass production of tobacco products in the United States, the Altria Group,
Swisher International, Imperial Tobacco Group and Reynolds American. Many Americans have
resorted to the use of e cigs or electronic cigarettes and illicit tobacco sales, this accounts for a small,
yet growing market. The tobacco industry started its reign in the U.S after World War I and World War
II, soldiers overseas were given free cigarettes every day. Companies began to hire, and the marketing
campaigns started. By 1945 the production of cigarettes has reached 300 billion per year and military
men were receiving 75% of them. In 1965 Congress passed a law stating that there must be a warning
label on every pack of cigarettes that said Cigarettes may be hazardous to your health. In 1980 s big
tobacco had released new cigarettes with filters claiming that they would reduce the smoke inhalation
and prevent tar and chemicals from entering your body. Cigarettes were everywhere, on television in

Benefits Of Classical Instrumental Music Education
Introduction Classical instrumental music education has developed into a luxury that mostly only the
middle classes and higher classes can afford. While classroom music education at schools provides an
overview of musical knowledge and performance, it does not always allow the opportunity for an in
depth specialisation in instrumental practice. Music education is important for children s development
and should be accessible to all. Multiple studies on the impact of music on the brain have been
conducted and the field of study is still in its early stages of research, but experts agree that music
education, and especially the practise of a musical instrument, is important for all children.
Unfortunately the cost of music lessons and other barriers restrict its access to underprivileged
children in particular. Non profit organisations around the world are making classical music education
available for free for underprivileged children in the belief that it does not only help in their
development, but can also change a society. El ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elliott considers music education to be essential since the main values of music and music education
coincide with the life values that society aims to achieve: personal growth, differentiation, complexity,
enjoyment, self esteem, and happiness . He argues that the quality of individual and community life
depends on providing people with the knowings and the opportunities they require to make a life as
well as a living . Moreover, Burmeister makes a case for music education in general education through
its unique contributions to man, being aesthetic growth , productive use of leisure time and emotional
development . Another way of categorising the benefits of music education is through success: success
in society, success in school, success in developing intelligence, and success in

Silent Auction Research Paper
This requires a lot of work, but the funds raised can be huge. However, be sure that you are willing to
put the work in to make sure the event goes smoothly. Also, be sure that your group can get enough
donations of items to be auctioned off, and people to bid on them in order to justify a silent auction.
Silent auctions often work better if they are done consistently. So, this will work better if this is a
mission trip that will be occurring every year. That is because more people know about the silent
auction, and are willing to donate to it, or attend it. These events often grow each year. Silent auctions
require a lot of volunteers. Luckily, you should have a lot of those from the mission participants. If a

Why Are Factory Farming Bad
Industrialized farming is a constant in today s world. Every hour of every day, these farms are
cranking out thousands of pounds of meat, eggs, dairy, etc. Many claim it is quick and efficient. While
factory farming does get the job done, per se, the job is not done without causing devastation.
Environmentally, these farms have caused severe amounts of damage. They are responsible for thirty
seven percent of the world s methane emissions, having a huge impact on climate change. Methane
emissions are at least twenty times more hazardous to the climate than carbon dioxide emissions
(Good). Farmers that manage and own industrial farms, and their customers, face dangers as well.

Said risks come in all shapes and sizes. From economic to health problems, CAFOs are a source of all
sorts of impending issues. One of the many dilemmas people face is the danger of antibiotics.
Antibiotics are force fed to the animals that reside on industrialized farms to promote faster growth.
What many people do not realize is that these antibiotics are in the meat they are eating, and therefore
causing an almost invisible, yet extremely detrimental health risk. The use of antibiotics in animals
has been seemingly harmless until recently when medical professionals discovered that humans are
building up a resistance to antibiotics. Antibiotics have been around for centuries, and they have been
working up until recent years. Humans have begun to develop resistance to antibiotics that fight
deadly diseases (NIAID). The unnatural feeds, hormones, and excessive quantities of antibiotics used
on factory farms put the human population at risk for chronic disease, obesity, and drug resistant
bacteria, and pose the threat of major zoonotic disease outbreaks. The previous quote barely skims the
surface of the dangers antibiotic resistance is creating. On average, ninety million Americans die from
diseases antibiotics once could have defended them from, but they had developed resistance to such
antibiotics (Farm Sanctuary). Antibiotics are crucial to human life; building resistance to them must

Derrick Todd Lee Essay
Evil around the Campus Serial crimes are thought of as some of the worse that exist. Fear is inevitable
in the area that the crimes are occurring and people seek ways to make themselves feel safer,
sometimes taking extreme measures. This was the case when Derrick Todd Lee was playing his game
around the Louisiana State University campus in Baton Rouge. Derrick Todd Lee grew up in small
town St. Francisville, Louisiana with his mother, father, and siblings. Shortly after his birth, Lee s
father, Samuel Ruth, left the family. His mother thought this to be a good thing due to the fact that
Ruth suffered from mental illness and was eventually hospitalized after the attempted murder of his ex

Geralyn DeSoto, from Addis, Louisiana, was a student at Louisiana State University and was planning
to attend graduate school in the fall of 2002. Geralyn was found by her husband inside their home. She
had been raped, brutally beaten, and stabbed to death. Their home was located on Louisiana Highway
1, which is the main road Derrick Todd Lee used to travele to and from work at the Dow Chemical
Plant in Brushly, Louisiana. Geralyn s husband was the lead suspect in her murder before DNA
evidence was linked to Lee. Derrick Lee Todd was tried for the murder of DeSoto. He was handed a
conviction for second degree murder due to the fact that DeSoto was not sexually assaulted. The
prosecutor feared that Lee would have been acquitted if they had tried him for first degree murder.

Microsoft s Operating Systems ( Os )
Microsoft s Operating Systems (OS) have come a lengthy way since MS DOS; let s look at the
chronological changes Microsoft s OS have been through, preliminary from the first OS to the latest.
Microsoft s initially OS MS DOS 1.0 was released with IBM s PC in 1981 which contained numerous
of other Microsoft products such as BASIC and COBOL. IBM permitted Microsoft to retain the rights
this OS and so Microsoft was presented to the Operating System business. New versions of MS DOS
were available from 1982 up till its final version 7.1 in 1997. Some of these features improved as the
updates came out. Tthe main enhancements from an update were increased by memory support. Some
of the significant structures and improvements were from version 1.25, which reinforced double sided
disks. Next was version 3.0; this version added additional support for the network. In addition
version7 that were combined with Windows 95, permitted removal of many utilities and had the
support for the FAT32 file system on hard drive disks .
Microsoft signed a contract with IBM in August 1985 for joint expansion of OS s and other systems
software products. In April 1987 Microsoft and IBM released OS/2 and in the following year in
October OS/2 1.1 was released. Microsoft later exited from the project to put more of their time and
work into Windows NT, which was a new OS not part of MS DOS. The Windows OS (an extension of
MS DOS) was brought out by Microsoft in 1983 with version 1.0. This was

Jane E. Wilson And Fanny Fern
Pride is a broad character trait that has both positives and negatives associated with it. The way one
goes about confronting the hurdles in their life determines how others will perceive them. The wrong
kind of pride can have serious negative ramifications on one s life. While not a hard and fast rule,
often characters of lower class tend to be written to show positive pride and work through their
struggles, while the people of a higher class show a negative pride that limits the before mentioned
characters associated with a lower class. Through their writing, Harriet E. Wilson and Fanny Fern
exhibit a myriad of levels of pride exemplified by various characters, in their books, Our Nig or,
Sketches from the Life of a Free Black and Ruth Hall: A Domestic Tale of the Present Time,
respectively. In Harriet E. Wilson s book, Our Nig, there are two opposing types of pride that are
present throughout the book. The positive character of Frado, the young mulatto, is much different
than that of Mrs. Bellmont s negative pride, however the two are dependent upon each other. As Mrs.
Bellmont is a privileged, white woman, Frado is a helpless, indentured servant to the Bellmont family.
It is this whiteness, this superiority over the colored, which fuels Mrs. Bellmont s hate and abuse
toward young Frado. In the historical timeframe, even though Frado is considered a free black, she
owns no property. As Philip Gould states in his discussion of class, property is both evidence

Hofstede s Six Cultural Dimensions
Hofstede s Six Cultural Dimensions
The Hofstede s six cultural dimensions were created collectively by Geert Hofstede, Michael Bond,
and Michael Minkov. These dimensions of culture were created to view how values in the workplace
were influence by a particular culture of a given country. Essentially, it was a tool to describe how
workforces in different countries operate under their own culture. There are currently six different
dimensions of national cultures; power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism, masculinity,
long term orientation, and indulgence versus restraint. Professor Greet Hofstede was the creator of the
first four cultural dimensions, back in 1973. Roughly two decades later, Michael Bond with the
support of Hofstede created the fifth dimension, in 1991. Recently in the 2010, the last dimension was
added to the list, by Michael Minkov and his research team (Minkoy Hofstede, 2011). The first four
dimensions discovered by Hofstede, dealt with four different anthropological issues that were handled
differently from nation to nation. These issues involved; methods of coping with inequality and
uncertainty, relationships within a primary group, and the emotional significance of having been born
as male or female (National, n.d.). The fifth dimension is long term orientation. Long term orientation
provides the idea that a given culture or country prefers to do things in an old fashion manner or in a
modernized pragmatic approach. The last dimension,

Cornell College Reflection
7. What summer experience has been of significance to you? Why?
Summer of 2017 at Cornell s condensed 6 weeks semester with credit, taught by their professors was a
sheer pleasure.
It gave me a true preview of the college experience.
I learn to speak with not talk to my professors and teaching assistants when I needed help and to
discuss class topics to further my knowledge by exploring the topics with them in conversations.
I learned to plan, such as checking my email frequently for posted assignments a week before they
were due, instead of a day, like in high school.
I had to learn to manage my time more effectively.
No adult or parents telling me what to do; I was completely free.
The Cornell Summer College allowed me to gain the responsibility that comes with real freedom.
8. Have you traveled to or lived in different localities? If so, where?
My parents have always adhered to our seeing the USA. Our travels have been on holidays, when our
parents have conventions, and a combination of exploring America s historic sites, national
monuments, learning about history through museums, unique settings such as Sturbridge Village, and
seeing colleges.
As my resume shows I have been to Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, Yellowstone
National Park in Wyoming, California (both the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas), Illinois

Among the factors pointed out in Question 1., Oval sales price and quantity sold variance is the

however, total decreased of unit sales was around 10%. We cannot be certain that the total 10%

Legal Issues Of Booking Online
As we have learned in this course, there is a lot of excitement regarding the fact that businesses are
revolutionized by cyberspace. The internet has become a very dominant force in the marketplace and
almost every retailer now has a website with the option to purchase online. While buying online is
time and occasionally cost efficient, we must weigh the benefits and drawbacks of both methods. To
control illicit behaviour on the internet, there must be a model implemented for dealing with
undesirable conduct. Based on our lectures, it is my understanding that the purpose of a contract acts
as a model to deter illicit conduct but it does not stop all unlawful conduct. In this essay, I will discuss
the legal issues surrounding online shopping, more specifically purchasing/booking travel online and
the risks associated with that. For many, booking travel online offers a few perks such as the ability to
compare prices, the chance to comb through online reviews, and the convenience of booking your
vacation at the click of a button. Nevertheless, booking travel online also comes with some risks and
more and more scams are targeting consumers who are booking travel online. Booking your own
travel can create a lot of headaches for yourself and for trip companions. People are experiencing
significantly more issues when booking online. Of the pitfalls consumers are experiencing, there are
legal issues that may arise out of booking your travel online which supports my main argument

Postmodern Pluralism and its Effect on Truth and Reconciliation Art: Going Home Star
In 2008, the government created a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, hereafter referred to as
TRC, committed to the tasks of discovering the truth about Canada s Indian Residential Schools,
revealing this truth to all Canadians, and attempting to reconcile the relationship between Indigenous
and non Indigenous Canadians. One of the ways the TRC suggested to facilitate this reconciliation
process is through the creative arts. Indeed, in the last few years, Canada has seen a host of artistic
projects launched which seek to heal and reconcile this relationship, these projects will hereafter be

In addition to representing different cultural traditions, postmodernism tends to combine and present
both classical and vernacular traditions, within a culture (classical in the colloquial sense, not just
music belonging to the classical era). In doing so, it sets itself up as anti elitist, as it does not
distinguish between high and low culture in the same way modern music did. Postmodernism is, at its
core, a rejection of modernist traits; therefore since modernism was only for an elite few,
postmodernism aims to reach out and appeal to a larger audience. Going Home Star explores many
different genres of music throughout the piece. Take, for example, the opening sequence. In the first
twenty minutes, we hear influences from big band music, dubstep, hip hop, Swan Lake and anything
in between. Swan Lake is an example of classical music while big band, dubstep, and hip hop are all
forms of vernacular music. This notion of anti elitism was very important to Hatzis when composing
Going Home Star, because he wanted any audience member to be able to connect with the music, even
if they aren t trained in classical music. His main consideration was to not alienate our native
population. Reconciliation art must fight against elitism in order to not alienate any audience
members. Anti elitism, through pluralism of genre, is another element of

Essay on Voter Habits Based on Demographics
Voter Habits Based on Demographics
Abstract
In this paper I intend to evaluate the voting habits of the American public. I will look at how race, sex,
education level, marital status, income level, current employment status, and age affects whether or
not people vote. I am also going to examine which political parties these groups have historically
voted for, why they vote for them, how this has changed over the years if it has changed at all, and
why it has changed.
I believe that from previous voting information you could fairly well predict the voters choices. I m
not saying you could foretell the outcome of upcoming elections, but you could figure out what to
expect given the state of current affairs.

This difference is made up of people who do not have United States citizenship. This is important for
the consideration of racial and ethnic differences in voting rates. Immigration has affected the non
citizen population of many groups. Only two percent of Non Hispanic whites are not citizens and six
percent of Blacks are not citizens. This is in stark contrast to the thirty eight percent of Hispanics and
thirty eight percent of Asians and Pacific Islanders who do not have citizenship. This can be seen in
the nineteen percent of voting age Hispanics, Asians and Pacific Islanders who voted compared to the
thirty percent of the voting age citizen population who voted. This is illustrated well in the following
graph.
The overall percentage of 18 and over citizens who voted in the 2002 congressional election was at the
second lowest with the 1998 election being the lowest. There has been an increase in the overall
number of people eligible to vote, but a decrease in the percentage that register to vote and the
percentage of registered voters that do. I believe this comes from an increase in the sensationalism of
the presidential elections that over shadows the congressional elections. The hype and prominence isn
t present so it tends to slide by unnoticed. You can see this in the average difference of thirteen percent
more voters in presidential elections since 1964. The people who do vote in these elections are the

the mast is 12m overhead the new rooftop level and 37m overhead ground level. It is formed with

Directly after the last home match of the season, the current roof and columns were removed which

Book Review of The Rise and Fall of Alexandria How the modern world was actually established is
often overlooked and attributed to the powers and domination of Athens and Rome. What authors

7). He wanted Egypt as part of his growing empire. Not long after in 323 BC, however, Alexander
died and left this newly established city to his half brother and baby son. Alexander s childhood friend,
Ptolemy, soon came to rule over the city and Alexandria began rising. Ptolemy had plans for the city
and began building innovative roads and two sea harbors. With these new developments, authors note,
the fundamental plan of the greatest city in the ancient world was complete. Houses, slaves, cattle, and
taxpayers were being taken from surrounding villages and given to the capital city of Alexandria.
When Ptolemy s son and successor (Ptolemy II) began his rule on the city, he, too, threw himself into
developing Alexandria and created a currency that could be used to sell and trade. Structures were
built, such as temples and the lighthouse, and Alexandria was becoming known as the light of the
world (p. 92).
Along with the furthering of physical growth to the city of Alexandria, there was also growth
politically and religiously. Ptolemy wished to fuse ancient thinking with the modern thinking of the
Greeks, so he devised a plan and created a cult through a fusion of two gods: the god of the dead and
the living bull. And this Greco Egyptian cult was created and called Serapis. Through this newly
founded religion and the constant furthering of the city s buildings and technology, Alexandria began
to rise.

are today? All of that can be traced back to the 1930 s. The 1930 s decade has been nostalgically
labeled The Golden Age of Hollywood. (Dirks, Tim) There were many innovations that established the
foundation of modern film. The 30s was the decade of the sound and color revolutions and the
advance of the talkies . (Dirks Tim) Talkies was a term used to describe films with sound. The 1930s
was also the decade the brought in many new genres to the film scene. New film genres included

One of the most popular film types in the 1930 s were gangster films. Gangster films were a visual
representation of all the crime and scandals that took place during this era. Popular gangster films of
the 1930 s include Little Caesar, Scarface, and The Public Enemy. Little Caesar was the first gangster
film presented as a Talkie ( The History of Motion Pictures ). Little Caesar is a film about a small time
gangster (Caesar Rico Bandello) and his plot to hit a big score (Little Caesar (1931)). Gangster films
were extremely successful in the 30 s, but horror movies were starting to make an introduction as well.
In 1931, Universal Studios released Dracula, starring Bela Lugosi ( The History of Motion Pictures ).
Dracula was a staple in the horror film industry, and a building block to modern day vampire movies.
It was based on the novel by Bram Stoker. Despite Dracula and all its success, in 1939 one of the most
famous films of all time was released. The Wizard of Oz, an American musical, comedy, and drama,
was released by Universal and produced by Metro Goldwyn Mayer. The Wizard of Oz was a very
successful adaptation of the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum (The Wizard
of Oz). The Wizard of Oz is a tale about a young girl named Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) who gets
swept away in a tornado and taken to a magical land. In this magical land, she meets many new
friends and foes in her journey to meet the Wizard of Oz. Everyone in the land tells her that the wizard
can help her return home and grant her new friends their wants of a brain, heart and courage (The

The Anatomical Structure Of Different Organelles
Analyze the anatomical structure of ten different organelles in the cell and their respective functions.
The cell s nonmembranous organelles include the cytoskeleton, microvilli, centrioles, cilia, ribosomes,
and proteasomes. Membranous organelles include the endoplasmic reticulum, the Golgi apparatus,
lysosomes, peroxisomes, and mitochondria.
Organelle Location and function
Cytoskeleton Serves as the cell s skeleton. It is an interior protein system that gives the cytoplasm
quality and adaptability. The cytoskeleton of all cells is made of microfilaments, halfway fibers, and
microtubules. Muscle cells contain these cytoskeletal parts in addition to thick fibers. The fibers and
microtubules of the cytoskeleton frame a dynamic system whose ceaseless rearrangement influences
cell shape and capacity.
Microvilli Numerous cells have little, finger formed projections of the plasma film on their uncovered
surfaces. These projections, called microvilli (solitary, microvillus), significantly increment the
surface territory of the phone presented to the extracellular environment. Likewise, they cover the
surfaces of cells that are effectively engrossing materials from the extracellular liquid, for example,
the cells coating the stomach related tract. Microvilli have broad associations with the cytoskeleton. A
center of small scale fibers hardens each microvillus and grapples it to the cytoskeleton at the terminal
web.

Meeting At Seward County Community College Essay
Meeting Characteristics for Conflict Management and Resolution Meetings are a common tool used
by companies and organizations for a variety of purposes, and they can be implemented in a variety of
ways. Properly implemented, meetings can be effective, productive, and increase involvement of the
participants at the meetings. If not implemented properly, meetings can be costly as well as
unproductive for both the leader and the participants. By examining recent meeting characteristics of
Wheatridge Park Care Center and the Phi Theta Kappa organization at Seward County Community
College, a better understanding of the positive and negative aspects of various meeting styles may be
explored through applying and analyzing the events of the meeting against conflict management
principles recommended in Raines (2013).
Wheatridge Park Care Center Meeting Wheatridge Park Care Center has demonstrated several aspects
that adhere to the suggestions of Raines (2013), and that have worked well for the participants at the
meetings. Wheatridge Park s meetings can be broken down into two parts, which are the department
meetings and the all staff meetings. Each of the five departments at Wheatridge Park Care Center
conducts department meetings once a month with the employees in that department. The department
meetings typically address issues such as information employees need to know, changes in the
department, dealing with nonstructural sources of conflict, and build on team cognition.

John Taylor Howling Wolf Analysis
While these artists renditions of the Treaty Signing at Medicine Lodge Creek contain the same
content, John Taylor and Howling Wolf s show very different views. I believe that the difference in
views arose due to the fact that these two men had different cultural backgrounds from one another.
John Taylor was a hired journalist while Howling Wolf was Native American. John Taylor s sketch has
a very natural feel while Howling Wolf s is abstract. John Taylor s illustration is more natural and
realistic than representational because he was focusing on what he saw at the treaty signing, but his
beliefs may have caused him to make the Native Americans look stern and no nonsense by creating
micro facial expressions. While the European Americans

What Is The Similarities Between The Greek And Roman...
Each building, especially, the historical ones has a function, for which it was built, and a style carried
with messages to convey for the people. The Greek and the Roman buildings are the best examples of
the buildings, which tells a lot about their cultures. So, this essay will discuss two buildings from the
ancient eras, their differences, and similarities. The first one is the Parthenon in Athens while the other
is the Pantheon in ancient Rome. Also, it will explain how the style and use of these buildings served
as a typical example of their culture. The Pantheon is a Roman temple, and it was built in 125 CE in
the reign of Hadrian. Although it is one of the best preserved Roman monuments in the world, the
Pantheon, we see in these days, is the third one. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, the Romans, using it in such an important temple, wanted to talk about their strength, architectural
skills, and ability to innovate.
Moving to the other building swiftly, the Parthenon in Athens is a Greek temple. It was built in 432
B.C. in the Age of Pericles. Hence, it was built when the Athenian Empire was at the top of its power.
The word
Parthenon was derived from Athena epithets: Athena Parthenos, which means Virgin. (Cartwright,
2012).
Personally, I believe that the name is a genius choice as the temple was constructed for the sake of the
goddess
Athena.
Moreover, since the Parthenon mixed different Greek orders, namely the Doric and Ionic, it is the best
example to show how the Greeks could produce such a stunning temple. The materials they used were
not limited to marble and bronze. They used gold and ivory in lavish amounts for the sculpture of their
goddess, as well. There is too much important symbolism in these two buildings. However, from the
aforementioned information, I can say that the similarities between these two buildings are many.
They could be the purpose of their constructing as they both were temples and the messages of the

Hiatal Hernia Essay
A hiatal hernia occurs when the upper part of your stomach pushes up through your diaphragm and
into your chest region. The actual cause of hiatal hernias is unknown. There are two types of hiatal
hernias, fixed and sliding. This condition mostly occurs in people who are over 50 years old. It can
affect up to 60 percent of people by the time they turn 60 years old.
Causes
The exact cause is unknown. The diaphragm is a muscle that lies between the abdomen and chest that
helps you breathe. The stomach lies below the diaphragm. In most people injury may weaken muscle
tissue which can make it possible for the stomach to push through the diaphragm. Another cause can
be putting too much pressure repeatedly on the muscles around the stomach. Examples are coughing,
vomiting, straining during bowel movements, lifting heavy objects, obesity, aging, smoking, and
slouching while sitting.
Types of Hiatal Hernias
There are two types of hiatal hernias, sliding and fixed. A sliding hernia is the most common type of
hiatal hernia. It occurs when the area where the esophagus meets the stomach and slides up into the
chest through the hole in the diaphragm. A fixed hernia, also called ... Show more content on

To summarize, hiatal hernias can range from being barely if noticeable at all to requiring surgery and
generally consist of part of the stomach moving up into the thoracic cavity. Hiatal hernia (HH) is a

Buck learned the effort of leadership. After being in the pack for some time, Buck killed Spitz and

London was very much one of these authors, sending his first version of To Build a Fire to a magazine

The details in London s works consume us, and wrap us in his vivid, yet simple and repetitive

this man would simply survive even though he may have had to work for it, there is nothing urgent
about the piercing frost. Strong cases of Naturalism and Realism are evident in the 1908 version. In

ancient civilizations. As China developed into a great nation, the government began to form dynasties
in which China is ruled by a specific emperor. The first dynasty to have an emperor was the Qin
Dynasty, established by Shi Huang Di. This notorious name was self proclaimed by him and literally
translates into the First Emperor of China. At the end of the Qin Dynasty, Shi Huang Di was

Likewise, China produced inventions that contributed to not only their culture, but the vast world of
our past and present. Particularly, The Four Great Inventions have made a tremendous impact on our
society as humans. These are the inventions of: Papermaking, Printing, Gunpowder, and the Compass,
developed during the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Starting with the art of papermaking, this process
created a writing surface other than bones, silk, or bamboo. Using plant fibers, Cai Lun of the Eastern
Han created a lightweight and smooth textured piece of paper as opposed to heavy, rough bones or
expensive silk. Then, Bi Shang of the Northern Song Dynasty invented movable type printing, which
was later updated and succeeded by Europe. By applying baked clay in which text could be composed,
Shang could print the frame onto paper. Therefore, paper and printing were used as expected: creating
a source of entertainment in books, information on news, producing art, and more. Progressively, the
compass was conceived shortly afterwards. The initial compass had a magnetic rod among a bronze
case with twenty four directions etched into it and was used until the 8th Century. Its brother
instrument used water to suspend itself and minimize movement, thus allowing long distance sea
navigation. Finally, the introduction of gunpowder had revolutionized China and the world.
Gunpowder, which is made of sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate, was discovered to burn rapidly,
releasing immense volumes of gases. At first, this was used for firework displays, but was found to
also be a powerful weapon. With the advantage of gunpowder, China had become a callous adversary

HIF transcription factors (HIF 1 and HIF 2) act as heterodimers comprising an alpha and beta subunit.
Under normoxic condition alpha subunit is unstable due to proteasomal degradation. But under

including pieces of research and coursework, I have realized that I am enamored with coding the most.
First of all, I enjoy the process of coding and verifying and adjusting the program. Taking my digital
signal processor coursework as an example, after I finished writing the code, it appeared that the code
might not have been correct because I could not receive the right temperature. So I set the program to
a debug mode and run every single step of my code and observed the feedback value. This was a very
diversion for me. With the criticism comes about because of single step investigating, I made a couple
of theories about the issue, for example, the time postponed is not sufficiently exact, or I might be
coding about the wrong sticks. So I checked these hypotheses one by one, and for reasons unknown,
the issue is the piece of my program concerning time deferring because the segment I used to quantify
temperature which is DS18B20 is extremely strict on timing arrangement. Getting the right outcome is
exceptionally fulfilling, so is the procedure because through speculation autonomously I procure much
involvement and capability. Another thing that intrigues me regarding computer science comes from
what I have learned through our research requirement in theory and technology

Food Intake Paper
1 Day Food Intake Paper Marisa Martinez SCI/220 7 10 2012 Dr. Angela Branch 1 Day Food Intake
Paper Food intake is something that everyone should take very seriously in their daily lives. Food
intake is regulated by the complex interaction of psychological and physiological events associated
with ingestion. While the energy content of foods has an important role in determining the amount
eaten, a number of other properties of foods also may be important. These include palatability,
macronutrient composition, and form of the food for example solid vs. liquid, how it is prepared, and
its energy density. After reviewing my iProfile Journal it has come to my senses that my dietary intake

The chicken soup that I consumed was the only meal that consumed the recommended number of
servings that any healthy meal should. In the future I think that I will begin to eat better foods that
contain vitamins, minerals, nutrients, DRI s and unsaturated fats so that my body can consume the
right amount of recommended number of servings for each meal group. My diet did not provide an
adequate variety of foods because I could have chosen to eat healthier instead of eating fast food.
According to the food pyramid in the iProfile I did not fulfill all of my goals that the food pyramid
suggested me to do. I believe that in the future to fulfill pyramid goals I will increase vegetable and
fruit intake, eat a variety of vegetables, especially more green, red, orange vegetables. I will also try to
increase my intake of fat free milk or low fat milk products, such as yogurts, cheese and beans. After
comparing my diet to Kelley Watson s diet I believe that even though my diet was not healthy Kelly
Watson s diet was a lot worse than mine. The reason I state this is because she hardly consumed any of
the vitamins, minerals and nutrients that a person s diet should consume. In my opinion, I think that
my diet would have to be the healthier one because in my diet there were vegetables, minerals and a
small amount of nutrients that the body must have in a daily live. Even though both diets were not
healthy like they should have been, my diet is the one that provides the

Aziz In A Passage To India
Why talk about the English? Brrrr...! An Outlook on Aziz s Attempts to Bridge the Gap A Passage To
India by E. M. Forster is a rich, postcolonial novel delving into the possibility of sustaining a personal
friendship between an English person and an Indian person. This topic is being discussed in the
beginning of the novel at the home of Hamidullah, ... they were discussing as to whether or no(t) it is
possible to be friends with an Englishman. Mahmoud Ali argued that it was not, Hamidullah
disagreed, but with so many reservations... (Forster 7) Aziz, who the novel centers around, has the
disposition to just shut them out and ignore them and all will be jolly. Of course, later, we find Aziz

She naturally brings criminal charges against him and ruins any chances of that relationship
continuing. I see no point in elaborating on this subject because it is so cut and dry. This relationship
did not last and was destined for failure from that prig of an Englishwoman. Mrs. Moore and Aziz s
relationship is a bit more tangled than the cut and dry experience with Ms. Quested. Aziz only has
three meetings with Mrs. Moore. Both characters have this great fondness for the other with no
substance. They have some superficial similarities and Aziz proclaims she s Oriental! It seems like
both want an unconventional friendship so acutely they immediately gravitate towards this love that
transcends race lines. When Fielding misses the train and Aziz realizes he ll be alone with the two
women his feelings from the mosque come rushing back for Mrs. Moore, She was perfect as always,
his dear Mrs. Moore. (Forster 145) But there is no real substance to their friendship only feelings and
emotions. Fielding accurately describes the real relationship between the two, to Aziz on the roof after
the trial, You are so fantastic.... Miss Quested, you won t treat her generously;... Miss Quested anyhow
behaved decently this morning, whereas the old lady never did anything for you at all. (Forster 282)
Fielding is absolutely correct, Mrs. Moore never actually does anything for Aziz except be a friendly,
slightly senile old lady. In fact

The Confederate Flag Is A Symbol Of Southern Pride
Another avenue of views about the controversy that the Confederate flag fuels racism or gives our
impressionable young men and women an avenue to racism tendencies comes from our political
parties and the platforms that they adopt. Democrat and Republican Party do have different views of
this controversy. As in every issue there will always be conflicting numbers that make no sense, but it
seems that the Democratic Party view of the controversy had the biggest swing in recent months. In
gallop polls of the 1990s Democrats were solidly behind the Confederate flag as a symbol of Southern
pride and remembering the historical value of the Confederate flag as roughly 60% of Democrats
during this period had that opinion. Since the recent controversy began that number has went down to
the latest poll taken in July of 2015 that showed that on 70% of Democrats now believe that the
Confederate flag represents racism. With the recent debate and pictures of a young white male who
killed 9 black church goers draped in a Confederate flag may surely have boosted numbers it still is a
large growing concern in the Democratic Party that their thinking could have been wrong in past
years. The Republican Party through the same time frame have steadied their view and not changed
much over the years. As in the 90s the Republican Party view of the Confederate flag has always been
in favor of the flag being displayed at government buildings. When the poll was taken in July of 2015

Duty of Care Essay
Duty of Care: GELERAL
Week 2::Seminar 2
This concept is based on three proof of elements, its ingredients are A legal Duty of D towards the C
to exercise care in such conduct of D as falls within the scope of the duty, Breach of that Duty means
failure to come up to the standard required by law amp; Consequential damage to C which can be
attributed to D s conduct.
Duty of Care General: Duty is the primary control device which allows the courts to keep liability for
negligence within what they regard as acceptable limits and the controversies which have centered
around the criteria for the exercise of a duty reflect differences of opinion as to the proper ambit of
liability for negligence. Before Donoghue v Stevenson, there was no ... Show more content on

In a decision of Privy Council , Yuen Kun Yeu v AG of Hong Kong, court interpreted the 1st stage of
Anns that, proximity of relationship means that there has to be some special relationship and the
relationship depends on the reasonable contemplation of the D that his carelessness may harm the C.
What happened in this case, X Company gained their license from the D and cheated C, lots of people
lost their money. Here court pointed that there was no special relation between C and D, there was no
proximity and thus no Duty. However, it may be said that it is also a policy decision because, the class
of people was so large, if court granted a claim then there would be a flood gate of new claims.

Taking a Look at Mantis Shrimp
INTRODUCTION
The mantis shrimp is a stomatopod known for its extraordinary eye sight. It is thought to have one of
the most complex visual systems in the animal kingdom. Their eyes are similar to many insects in that
they have compound eyes each eye sits on a stalk and can move independently to the other, The
trinocular vision experienced by the mantis shrimp allows it to see circularly polarized light as well as
a host of colours not even fathomable to humans. Biomimicry is a form of engineering that describes
the design of new products based on things observable in nature; just as the study of a bird may help
us design aero planes; the study of the visual structure of the mantis shrimp has the potential to help
advance radio and satellite imagery.
To understand the applications of mantis shrimp vision; we must first understand how the eyes of the
mantis shrimp work. The compound eye of the mantis shrimp is made up of many ommatidia; an
ommatidium is like a simple but complete photoreceptor organ consisting of optical components and
receptor cells Most research suggests that the vision experienced by the mantis shrimp is due to three
distinct regions in its eye; there is an upper and lower hemisphere separated by the midband; these
regions are made of distinct ommatidia; adapted and responsible for different functions in the eye of
the mantis shrimp. The research I have come across suggests that the most important region is the
modified midband because this is the

Essay about Scientific Method and Participant Observation
In the article, Researching Dealers and Smugglers, Patricia Adler discusses her and her husband s
experience using participant observation to collect data from drug dealers and the problems this
qualitative method brought. A qualitative method focuses on collecting rich, non statistical data. This
method involves face to face interviews and actual participation with the group being researched. The
Adlers use this method because it is almost impossible to gather accurate information on people who
smuggle drugs. This is true because they are such private and deceitful people. The only way to get the
real facts is if the smugglers trust the person. Unfortunately, participant observation brought problems
such as the dealers and smugglers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cocaine also helped the dealers open up easily. During the interviews, some dealers experienced
withdrawal symptoms. It caused them to become malicious with each other or towards the Alders
without any warning. The way the Alders solved this problem was by taking precautions when
interacting with the dealers. The cocaine use was not a problem for the Adlers, but they most likely
dealt with the marijuana issue quite easily since Patricia does not specifically explain how it was
solved. In addition, there was another problem the Adlers encountered. The Adlers also found that
mixing the overt and covert roles with the members of the group throughout the investigation was
another issue. Since the Adlers had different level relationships with every individual, some of the
dealers were aware that they were a part of a research project while others were not aware. This
sometimes confused the Adlers. Patricia states, They [the informants] would made occasional veiled
references in front of people, especially when loosened by intoxicants, that made us extremely
uncomfortable. This issue made the couple uncomfortable because they did not want to blow their
cover. Patricia and Peter Adler also feared that the participants would think they are police. Peter and
Patricia Adler solved this issue by take the necessary safety measures so anyone they did not want to

Funeral Home Industry
Introduction:
There has always been a death industry but as the industry changes from product based purchases to
experience based there is a growing need in the industry to accommodate for how the industry is doing
to shift in the upcoming generations. The existing funeral homes are the traditional style interiors that
the previous generation got accustom with the product base design, but more funerals are become
more personal and deviate from the previous funeral ideas. Just like every funeral service is unique,
the grieving process is different from one person to the next. With providing a service that takes into
account of different techniques, whether through the space, social interaction or counselling helps
process the grief of the individual. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The funeral industry is changing from product based to experience based, and from burial to
cremations (National Funeral Directors Association [NFDA], 2015; Koop Kemp, 2007; Wolfelt,
2004). Traditional funeral homes started off as having funerals in the deceased homes, then creating
buildings that have a home like interiors. The generation at the time was all about the price of the
required products; like the price of the casket, what was the casket made of, wood or metal, what was
the best price for the burial lots (Steven Kemp, 2007). The industry was previously mostly a product
driven industry but, as the industry is changing the funeral service must focus on being customer and
experience driven (Wolfelt, 2004). The baby boomer generation is coming, they are sceptical of
traditional funerals but want some sort of service and want more information about the entire funeral
process and more ideas for personalizing the service (Wolfelt, 2004). Through the generation
difference and the changing market that allows for more of an experience customizable space that
depends on tradition, customs and beliefs of the customer (Wolfelt, 2004; Parkes Laungani Young,
2003). The baby boomers are more likely to choose cremation for body disposition (Wolfelt, 2004;
NFDA, 2015) which provides a market change within the industry. The business of the past is not, and
cannot be, the business of the future. But there is a future in funeral service (Wolfelt, 2004). Today s
funeral director must consciously work to create a package of experience to offer families in
conjunction with or even instead of the product (Wolfelt, 2004). Through bundling of products, it
allows for easier understanding of the products but still allows for customization of the service that the

  • 3. The Tobacco Industry And The United States The tobacco industry in the United States has expanded immensely over the past century, and is one of the leading cash crops in the country. Cigarettes held the largest margin in the market with an average of over 65% in overall sales. The United States tobacco market held a total revenue of $161.3 billion in 2014, this is one of the largest industries in the world for a single country. There are four major companies that run the mass production of tobacco products in the United States, the Altria Group, Swisher International, Imperial Tobacco Group and Reynolds American. Many Americans have resorted to the use of e cigs or electronic cigarettes and illicit tobacco sales, this accounts for a small, yet growing market. The tobacco industry started its reign in the U.S after World War I and World War II, soldiers overseas were given free cigarettes every day. Companies began to hire, and the marketing campaigns started. By 1945 the production of cigarettes has reached 300 billion per year and military men were receiving 75% of them. In 1965 Congress passed a law stating that there must be a warning label on every pack of cigarettes that said Cigarettes may be hazardous to your health. In 1980 s big tobacco had released new cigarettes with filters claiming that they would reduce the smoke inhalation and prevent tar and chemicals from entering your body. • 4. Benefits Of Classical Instrumental Music Education Introduction Classical instrumental music education has developed into a luxury that mostly only the middle classes and higher classes can afford. While classroom music education at schools provides an overview of musical knowledge and performance, it does not always allow the opportunity for an in depth specialisation in instrumental practice. Music education is important for children s development and should be accessible to all. Multiple studies on the impact of music on the brain have been conducted and the field of study is still in its early stages of research, but experts agree that music education, and especially the practise of a musical instrument, is important for all children. Unfortunately the cost of music lessons and other barriers restrict its access to underprivileged children in particular. Non profit organisations around the world are making classical music education available for free for underprivileged children in the belief that it does not only help in their development, but can also change a society. El ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elliott considers music education to be essential since the main values of music and music education coincide with the life values that society aims to achieve: personal growth, differentiation, complexity, enjoyment, self esteem, and happiness . He argues that the quality of individual and community life depends on providing people with the knowings and the opportunities they require to make a life as well as a living . Moreover, Burmeister makes a case for music education in general education through its unique contributions to man, being aesthetic growth , productive use of leisure time and emotional development . Another way of categorising the benefits of music education is through success: success in society, success in school, success in developing intelligence, and success in ... • 5. Silent Auction Research Paper This requires a lot of work, but the funds raised can be huge. However, be sure that you are willing to put the work in to make sure the event goes smoothly. Also, be sure that your group can get enough donations of items to be auctioned off, and people to bid on them in order to justify a silent auction. Silent auctions often work better if they are done consistently. So, this will work better if this is a mission trip that will be occurring every year. That is because more people know about the silent auction, and are willing to donate to it, or attend it. These events often grow each year. Silent auctions require a lot of volunteers. • 6. Why Are Factory Farming Bad Industrialized farming is a constant in today s world. Every hour of every day, these farms are cranking out thousands of pounds of meat, eggs, dairy, etc. Many claim it is quick and efficient. While factory farming does get the job done, per se, the job is not done without causing devastation. Environmentally, these farms have caused severe amounts of damage. They are responsible for thirty seven percent of the world s methane emissions, having a huge impact on climate change. Methane emissions are at least twenty times more hazardous to the climate than carbon dioxide emissions (Good). Farmers that manage and own industrial farms, and their customers, face dangers as well. Many farmers develop a resistance to antibiotics after being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Said risks come in all shapes and sizes. From economic to health problems, CAFOs are a source of all sorts of impending issues. One of the many dilemmas people face is the danger of antibiotics. Antibiotics are force fed to the animals that reside on industrialized farms to promote faster growth. What many people do not realize is that these antibiotics are in the meat they are eating, and therefore causing an almost invisible, yet extremely detrimental health risk. The use of antibiotics in animals has been seemingly harmless until recently when medical professionals discovered that humans are building up a resistance to antibiotics. Antibiotics have been around for centuries, and they have been working up until recent years. Humans have begun to develop resistance to antibiotics that fight deadly diseases (NIAID). The unnatural feeds, hormones, and excessive quantities of antibiotics used on factory farms put the human population at risk for chronic disease, obesity, and drug resistant bacteria, and pose the threat of major zoonotic disease outbreaks. The previous quote barely skims the surface of the dangers antibiotic resistance is creating. On average, ninety million Americans die from diseases antibiotics once could have defended them from, but they had developed resistance to such antibiotics (Farm Sanctuary). Antibiotics are crucial to human life; building resistance to them must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fear is inevitable in the area that the crimes are occurring and people seek ways to make themselves feel safer, sometimes taking extreme measures. This was the case when Derrick Todd Lee was playing his game around the Louisiana State University campus in Baton Rouge. Derrick Todd Lee grew up in small town St. Francisville, Louisiana with his mother, father, and siblings. Shortly after his birth, Lee s father, Samuel Ruth, left the family. His mother thought this to be a good thing due to the fact that Ruth suffered from mental illness and was eventually hospitalized after the attempted murder of his ex wife. She had been raped, brutally beaten, and stabbed to death. Their home was located on Louisiana Highway 1, which is the main road Derrick Todd Lee used to travele to and from work at the Dow Chemical Plant in Brushly, Louisiana. Geralyn s husband was the lead suspect in her murder before DNA evidence was linked to Lee. Derrick Lee Todd was tried for the murder of DeSoto. He was handed a conviction for second degree murder due to the fact that DeSoto was not sexually assaulted. • 9. Jane E. Wilson And Fanny Fern Pride is a broad character trait that has both positives and negatives associated with it. The way one goes about confronting the hurdles in their life determines how others will perceive them. The wrong kind of pride can have serious negative ramifications on one s life. While not a hard and fast rule, often characters of lower class tend to be written to show positive pride and work through their struggles, while the people of a higher class show a negative pride that limits the before mentioned characters associated with a lower class. Through their writing, Harriet E. Wilson and Fanny Fern exhibit a myriad of levels of pride exemplified by various characters, in their books, Our Nig or, Sketches from the Life of a Free Black and Ruth Hall: A Domestic Tale of the Present Time, respectively. In Harriet E. Wilson s book, Our Nig, there are two opposing types of pride that are present throughout the book. The positive character of Frado, the young mulatto, is much different than that of Mrs. Bellmont s negative pride, however the two are dependent upon each other. As Mrs. Bellmont is a privileged, white woman, Frado is a helpless, indentured servant to the Bellmont family. It is this whiteness, this superiority over the colored, which fuels Mrs. Bellmont s hate and abuse toward young Frado. In the historical timeframe, even though Frado is considered a free black, she owns no property. As Philip Gould states in his discussion of class, property is both evidence ... • 10. Hofstede s Six Cultural Dimensions Hofstede s Six Cultural Dimensions The Hofstede s six cultural dimensions were created collectively by Geert Hofstede, Michael Bond, and Michael Minkov. These dimensions of culture were created to view how values in the workplace were influence by a particular culture of a given country. Essentially, it was a tool to describe how workforces in different countries operate under their own culture. There are currently six different dimensions of national cultures; power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism, masculinity, long term orientation, and indulgence versus restraint. Professor Greet Hofstede was the creator of the first four cultural dimensions, back in 1973. Roughly two decades later, Michael Bond with the support of Hofstede created the fifth dimension, in 1991. Recently in the 2010, the last dimension was added to the list, by Michael Minkov and his research team (Minkoy Hofstede, 2011). The first four dimensions discovered by Hofstede, dealt with four different anthropological issues that were handled differently from nation to nation. These issues involved; methods of coping with inequality and uncertainty, relationships within a primary group, and the emotional significance of having been born as male or female (National, n.d.). The fifth dimension is long term orientation. Long term orientation provides the idea that a given culture or country prefers to do things in an old fashion manner or in a modernized pragmatic approach. The last dimension, ... • 12. Cornell College Reflection 7. What summer experience has been of significance to you? Why? Summer of 2017 at Cornell s condensed 6 weeks semester with credit, taught by their professors was a sheer pleasure. It gave me a true preview of the college experience. I learn to speak with not talk to my professors and teaching assistants when I needed help and to discuss class topics to further my knowledge by exploring the topics with them in conversations. I learned to plan, such as checking my email frequently for posted assignments a week before they were due, instead of a day, like in high school. Our travels have been on holidays, when our parents have conventions, and a combination of exploring America s historic sites, national monuments, learning about history through museums, unique settings such as Sturbridge Village, and seeing colleges. As mentioned in the case, Marelie is the CTO of the parent company and the president of agm.com , and is in charge of process improvement and partially involved in marketing. Among the factors pointed out in Question 1., Oval sales price and quantity sold variance is the biggest and Marelie should be held responsible for it. It is probably because of the wrong estimation on the loss during the strike week. She estimated the loss to be 5% in unit sales (about 400 baskets) however, total decreased of unit sales was around 10%. We cannot be certain that the total 10% decrease was due to the strike, but we think the percentage decrease in sales due

While buying online is time and occasionally cost efficient, we must weigh the benefits and drawbacks of both methods. To control illicit behaviour on the internet, there must be a model implemented for dealing with undesirable conduct. Based on our lectures, it is my understanding that the purpose of a contract acts as a model to deter illicit conduct but it does not stop all unlawful conduct. In this essay, I will discuss the legal issues surrounding online shopping, more specifically purchasing/booking travel online and the risks associated with that. For many, booking travel online offers a few perks such as the ability to compare prices, the chance to comb through online reviews, and the convenience of booking your vacation at the click of a button. Nevertheless, booking travel online also comes with some risks and more and more scams are targeting consumers who are booking travel online. Booking your own travel can create a lot of headaches for yourself and for trip companions. People are experiencing significantly more issues when booking online. Of the pitfalls consumers are experiencing, there are legal issues that may arise out of booking your travel online which supports my main argument ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition to representing different cultural traditions, postmodernism tends to combine and present both classical and vernacular traditions, within a culture (classical in the colloquial sense, not just music belonging to the classical era). In doing so, it sets itself up as anti elitist, as it does not distinguish between high and low culture in the same way modern music did. Postmodernism is, at its core, a rejection of modernist traits; therefore since modernism was only for an elite few, postmodernism aims to reach out and appeal to a larger audience. Going Home Star explores many different genres of music throughout the piece. Take, for example, the opening sequence. In the first twenty minutes, we hear influences from big band music, dubstep, hip hop, Swan Lake and anything in between. Swan Lake is an example of classical music while big band, dubstep, and hip hop are all forms of vernacular music. This notion of anti elitism was very important to Hatzis when composing Going Home Star, because he wanted any audience member to be able to connect with the music, even if they aren t trained in classical music. His main consideration was to not alienate our native population. Reconciliation art must fight against elitism in order to not alienate any audience members. I will look at how race, sex, education level, marital status, income level, current employment status, and age affects whether or not people vote. I am also going to examine which political parties these groups have historically voted for, why they vote for them, how this has changed over the years if it has changed at all, and why it has changed. This is in stark contrast to the thirty eight percent of Hispanics and thirty eight percent of Asians and Pacific Islanders who do not have citizenship. This can be seen in the nineteen percent of voting age Hispanics, Asians and Pacific Islanders who voted compared to the thirty percent of the voting age citizen population who voted. This is illustrated well in the following graph. The overall percentage of 18 and over citizens who voted in the 2002 congressional election was at the second lowest with the 1998 election being the lowest. There has been an increase in the overall number of people eligible to vote, but a decrease in the percentage that register to vote and the percentage of registered voters that do. I believe this comes from an increase in the sensationalism of the presidential elections that over shadows the congressional elections. The hype and prominence isn t present so it tends to slide by unnoticed. You can see this in the average difference of thirteen percent more voters in presidential elections since 1964. Not long after in 323 BC, however, Alexander died and left this newly established city to his half brother and baby son. Alexander s childhood friend, Ptolemy, soon came to rule over the city and Alexandria began rising. Ptolemy had plans for the city and began building innovative roads and two sea harbors. With these new developments, authors note, the fundamental plan of the greatest city in the ancient world was complete. Houses, slaves, cattle, and taxpayers were being taken from surrounding villages and given to the capital city of Alexandria. When Ptolemy s son and successor (Ptolemy II) began his rule on the city, he, too, threw himself into developing Alexandria and created a currency that could be used to sell and trade. Structures were built, such as temples and the lighthouse, and Alexandria was becoming known as the light of the world (p. 92). Along with the furthering of physical growth to the city of Alexandria, there was also growth politically and religiously. Ptolemy wished to fuse ancient thinking with the modern thinking of the Greeks, so he devised a plan and created a cult through a fusion of two gods: the god of the dead and the living bull. Membranous organelles include the endoplasmic reticulum, the Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, peroxisomes, and mitochondria. Organelle Location and function Cytoskeleton Serves as the cell s skeleton. It is an interior protein system that gives the cytoplasm quality and adaptability. The cytoskeleton of all cells is made of microfilaments, halfway fibers, and microtubules. Muscle cells contain these cytoskeletal parts in addition to thick fibers. The fibers and microtubules of the cytoskeleton frame a dynamic system whose ceaseless rearrangement influences cell shape and capacity. These projections, called microvilli (solitary, microvillus), significantly increment the surface territory of the phone presented to the extracellular environment. Likewise, they cover the surfaces of cells that are effectively engrossing materials from the extracellular liquid, for example, the cells coating the stomach related tract. Moving to the other building swiftly, the Parthenon in Athens is a Greek temple. It was built in 432 B.C. in the Age of Pericles. Hence, it was built when the Athenian Empire was at the top of its power. The word Parthenon was derived from Athena epithets: Athena Parthenos, which means Virgin. (Cartwright, 2012). Personally, I believe that the name is a genius choice as the temple was constructed for the sake of the goddess Athena. Moreover, since the Parthenon mixed different Greek orders, namely the Doric and Ionic, it is the best example to show how the Greeks could produce such a stunning temple. The materials they used were not limited to marble and bronze. They used gold and ivory in lavish amounts for the sculpture of their goddess, as well. However, only one of the versions strongly exemplifies the hard truth and fight against uncontrollable and unpredictable nature which is realism and naturalism. In many ways are London s two distinct pieces of work similar, but also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, one man was a physical being, set in stone, while the other was simply a figure of our imaginations per say, molded to our own liking one merely arrogant, the other simply ignorant. The main character frozen and idiotic, was drastically changed in these two works. The details in London s works consume us, and wrap us in his vivid, yet simple and repetitive descriptions of the settings of his works. In To Build a Fire the depiction of the bitter cold and the biting frost are what make the reader seem almost cold themselves, and understand how intense and severe it was a perfect example of realism. The harsh ways in which he wrote pounding every sense of numbness the man was feeling into the reader chilled us to the bone in the 1908 adaption. London states in the second variation, He did not expose his fingers more than a minute and was astonished at the swift numbness that smote them...He pulled the mitten on hastily, and beat the hand savagely across his chest (486). Meanwhile, the 1902 version simply let us know that it was quite cold and that this man would simply survive even though he may have had to work for it, there is nothing urgent about the piercing frost. As China developed into a great nation, the government began to form dynasties in which China is ruled by a specific emperor. The first dynasty to have an emperor was the Qin Dynasty, established by Shi Huang Di. This notorious name was self proclaimed by him and literally translates into the First Emperor of China. At the end of the Qin Dynasty, Shi Huang Di was overthrown and China became conquered by another. Likewise, China produced inventions that contributed to not only their culture, but the vast world of our past and present. Particularly, The Four Great Inventions have made a tremendous impact on our society as humans. These are the inventions of: Papermaking, Printing, Gunpowder, and the Compass, developed during the Song and Yuan Dynasties. Starting with the art of papermaking, this process created a writing surface other than bones, silk, or bamboo. Using plant fibers, Cai Lun of the Eastern Han created a lightweight and smooth textured piece of paper as opposed to heavy, rough bones or expensive silk. Then, Bi Shang of the Northern Song Dynasty invented movable type printing, which was later updated and succeeded by Europe. By applying baked clay in which text could be composed, Shang could print the frame onto paper. Therefore, paper and printing were used as expected: creating a source of entertainment in books, information on news, producing art, and more. Progressively, the compass was conceived shortly afterwards. The initial compass had a magnetic rod among a bronze case with twenty four directions etched into it and was used until the 8th Century. Its brother instrument used water to suspend itself and minimize movement, thus allowing long distance sea navigation. Finally, the introduction of gunpowder had revolutionized China and the world. Gunpowder, which is made of sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate, was discovered to burn rapidly, releasing immense volumes of gases. At first, this was used for firework displays, but was found to also be a powerful weapon. With the advantage of gunpowder, China had become a callous adversary in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eduard Wirths was both a hero and an anti hero towards his patients, depending on what stance a person takes. Wirths was known to have a sympathetic side to him that was a saving grace for many. However, the experimentation he allowed patients to suffer through in order to gain success for his own research is what makes him a criminal Nazi doctor. In order to survive under such reduced oxygen concentration, tumor cell adapts some transcriptional expression where Hypoxia inducible factor (HIF) is a key transcriptional factor 31. HIF transcription factors (HIF 1 and HIF 2) act as heterodimers comprising an alpha and beta subunit. Under normoxic condition alpha subunit is unstable due to proteasomal degradation. But under hypoxia, stable alpha subunit moves to nucleus to dimerize with beta subunit. In cooperation with transcriptional coactivators this HIF heterodimer binds with hypoxia response element (HRE) and induces transcription of more than 60 HIF targeted gene. Among those courses, and following three years of training including pieces of research and coursework, I have realized that I am enamored with coding the most. First of all, I enjoy the process of coding and verifying and adjusting the program. Taking my digital signal processor coursework as an example, after I finished writing the code, it appeared that the code might not have been correct because I could not receive the right temperature. So I set the program to a debug mode and run every single step of my code and observed the feedback value. This was a very diversion for me. With the criticism comes about because of single step investigating, I made a couple of theories about the issue, for example, the time postponed is not sufficiently exact, or I might be coding about the wrong sticks. So I checked these hypotheses one by one, and for reasons unknown, the issue is the piece of my program concerning time deferring because the segment I used to quantify temperature which is DS18B20 is extremely strict on timing arrangement. Getting the right outcome is exceptionally fulfilling, so is the procedure because through speculation autonomously I procure much involvement and capability. Another thing that intrigues me regarding computer science comes from what I have learned through our research requirement in theory and technology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is thought to have one of the most complex visual systems in the animal kingdom. Their eyes are similar to many insects in that they have compound eyes each eye sits on a stalk and can move independently to the other, The trinocular vision experienced by the mantis shrimp allows it to see circularly polarized light as well as a host of colours not even fathomable to humans. Biomimicry is a form of engineering that describes the design of new products based on things observable in nature; just as the study of a bird may help us design aero planes; the study of the visual structure of the mantis shrimp has the potential to help advance radio and satellite imagery. To understand the applications of mantis shrimp vision; we must first understand how the eyes of the mantis shrimp work. The compound eye of the mantis shrimp is made up of many ommatidia; an ommatidium is like a simple but complete photoreceptor organ consisting of optical components and receptor cells Most research suggests that the vision experienced by the mantis shrimp is due to three distinct regions in its eye; there is an upper and lower hemisphere separated by the midband; these regions are made of distinct ommatidia; adapted and responsible for different functions in the eye of the mantis shrimp. The research I have come across suggests that the most important region is the modified midband because this is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The generation at the time was all about the price of the required products; like the price of the casket, what was the casket made of, wood or metal, what was the best price for the burial lots (Steven Kemp, 2007). The industry was previously mostly a product driven industry but, as the industry is changing the funeral service must focus on being customer and experience driven (Wolfelt, 2004). The baby boomer generation is coming, they are sceptical of traditional funerals but want some sort of service and want more information about the entire funeral process and more ideas for personalizing the service (Wolfelt, 2004).
