Nucleic acids are molecules found in cells that store and direct information for growth and reproduction. They are composed of nucleotides, which contain a nitrogenous base, phosphate group, and five-carbon sugar. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) carries the genetic code of organisms and is known as the blueprint of life, while ribonucleic acid (RNA) carries information from DNA to cellular factories to synthesize proteins.
