NTPC Tanda power plant has a current installed capacity of 440 MW across 4 units, with plans to expand to 1720 MW total through the addition of 2 new 660 MW units. It sources coal from the North Karnpura coal fields and water from the Tanda Canal of the Saryu River. The main departments include the coal handling plant, boiler, superheater, turbine, generator, condenser, and cooling tower. Ash produced is utilized for construction materials and agriculture. Thermal power plants have advantages of low initial cost and fuel availability but also have disadvantages of atmospheric pollution and high running costs.
