Brittany Mally, RD
Program Officer

What is the School Wellness Policy?
 District level writes their own SWP to be followed by schools
 District sets at least 3 wellness goals each school year
 Schools follow the SWP and work towards meeting the wellness goals set by
the district
 Read your district’s wellness policy
Update on Current School Wellness
 All district’s, RCCI’s, and charters have up to date SWP
 Should all have wellness committees or advisory groups also
 Serving on the committee is a great idea
 You see a lot working in food service with what the kids like or throw away.
Wellness Reports Update
 There was a big push from NDA this spring to enter wellness information
online
 It worked!
 Almost 392 schools completed the wellness survey and questions compared to 111
last year
 This year many districts, RCCI’s, and charters also entered their goals
 Big improvement on making SMART goals
 Reports are available to view here https://wellness.nv.gov/
 You can look info up by school or district
Sample Report
What to do if you see SWP
noncompliance?
 Make a note of exactly what you are seeing and think is not in compliance.
 Bring it up to your school wellness coordinator
 Speak directly to the district wellness coordinator
 Submit a comment on the wellness site
 By working in food service you have the potential to see a lot of things
related to the SWP.
 Your voice and suggestions are important to help improve school wellness.
 Leave positive comments too!
