The Negaunee Middle School in Michigan implemented a Wellness Month initiative to promote physical activity among 491 students in grades 5-8. A variety of free off-site physical activities were organized, including swimming, tubing, ice skating, and snowshoe hiking. Transportation, admission fees, and snacks were provided through funding from the UP Health Project and PTSA. The goal was to keep students active during the cold winter and expose them to new activities while reducing stress and improving mental health. The school aims to build on the successful program and implement additional wellness initiatives like a rock climbing club, screen time limits, and staff wellness programs.
