NSDC aims to skill 150 million people in India across 20 high growth sectors by 2022. As a public-private partnership, NSDC will provide "viability gap funding" to enable skilling at scale. Key challenges include the lack of precedents for skilling such a large number, a skills gap of over 80%, and 93% of the workforce being in the unorganized sector. To achieve its goal, NSDC will focus on addressing the "imagination gap" through innovative ideas and disruptive technologies that can skill millions in the shortest time and bring excellence on a large scale through customized models. A multi-pronged approach is needed that leverages existing organizations and builds new models through combining different elements.
