1) DowDuPont is developing waxy corn varieties using CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing to introduce a targeted mutation in the waxy gene that results in the entire coding sequence being deleted. 2) Trials show the CRISPR-edited waxy corn has identical phenotypes and starch properties as conventional waxy corn varieties. 3) CRISPR-edited waxy corn hybrids have shown improved yields compared to conventional hybrid checks in agronomic trials.
