- #11 Improving throughput and accuracy of plant phenotyping is core to continued advances in breeding to ensure genetic gain to meet global food demand. Current manual phenotyping requires enormous investments in time, cost, and labor as quantitative values are required for thousands of genetic varieties across different environments presents a huge challenge in scalability. Low cost unmanned aerial systems (UAS) have a great potential for rapid and high-throughput phenotypic plant measurements. Coreva Agriscience has developed, validated and deployed a suite of high-throughput phenotyping solutions ranging from plant counting and early stand quality assessments, to quantitative assessments of soy maturity, plant height and foliar disease across 7 crop species. Moreover, we have developed and deployed field solutions for scouting and real-time assessment of crop establishment and field variability. These solutions are driven by on a large fleet of UAS, a dedicated cadre of hundreds of UAS pilots and image analysts and top level remote sensing, computer vision and full stack software engineering specialists within R&D.
