Theme Of Ode On A Grecian Urn By John Keats
Life s mysteries are best stated in writing. Some mysteries are revealed, while others remain
unknown forever. John Keats, one of England s greatest poets, published several poems, including
one of his most famous ones in 1819, Ode on A Grecian Urn (Keats 247). Keats was a renowned
poet during the British Romantic period. Romantic literature focused on beauty and emotions. So,
what is the significance of the scenes depicted on the mysterious urn? Is the urn simply a
masterpiece of art with emphasis only on physical beauty? In the poem, Ode on A Grecian Urn,
John Keatscreates mysterious scenes on a Greek urn to contrast between everlasting art and human
life. Keats contrasts both worlds through the urn s elaborate description, the theme of personal
relationships, and the ultimate message of beauty, with significant relevance to modern times.
The poems ambiguities begin with the speaker describing the urn. However, these ambiguities
are not just intended by Keats to remain enigmatic, they are there to be connected like a puzzle,
piece by piece. As the speaker, who is a mystery himself, describes the urn, it is evident that he is
bewildered with a spark of curiosity, attempting to grasp the meaning of the scenes (Mishra 51).
The speaker first states what he sees from a distance. He describes the distinct advantages of the
urn as an object, Thou still unravished bride of quietness...foster child of silence and slow time
(Keats 247). He defines the world of art as

Factors Affecting Voice Differences
Before puberty all voices, male or female, sound alike. But as the hormones come into play, they
cause the male larynx to become larger and the vocal folds lengthen and thicken. Not only are there
internal factors that play a role in the voice changing there are also physical factors, depending on
the height and weight of an individual that could affect the tone, pitch and frequency. The purpose
of this assignment was to better understand these differences.
As defined in our class manual, voice onset time (VOT) refers to the time difference between a
voiced stop closure and a voiceless stop. It is determined by the articulatory blockage at the
beginning of vocal fold vibration for the following vowel. Among the various factors of VOT
variations include; phonetic context, place of articulation, speech tempo, and speakers gender. For
voiceless stops, women display longer VOT than men. For voiced stops however, the results are
rather mixed. Which makes sense if you look at the characteristics of mine and Marks h d words,
you will notice there are multiple differences within our tokens regarding formant frequencies.
However we show similarities with our durations. So I wondered at first if this had anything to do
with the tokens being the same word, or if it was the vowel production. Differences between the
speech of men and women relates to the formant patterns associated with vowel production.
Although men have low frequency vowel formants than women, the differences in

Human Manipulation Of Genetic Transfer And Its Biological...
AS91607 Demonstrate understanding of human manipulations of genetic transfer and its
biological implications By Ryan Neill (3 credits) Case Study 1: Selective Breeding Organism:
Cattle (Bos Taurus) Over time, all organisms are subject to natural selection. Natural selection is
where Nature selects against traits that either disadvantage the organism or against traits that are
not of any use to the organism; these are known as adaptations. These adaptations can be seen in
many forms. They include: behaviours that allow better evasion of predators, an anatomical
feature that improves their chances of survival (this could include brighter colours to find a
breeding partner or larger horns to fight off predators), or a protein that functions better at body
temperature. These could all be adaptations. Natural selection is the result of variation and
heredity. It is not considered random as it is nature s way of selecting the superior organisms to
carry its species into the future with the best chance of survival. Humans have carried out selective
breeding for centuries. Selective breeding is the process by which humans select which animals or
plants reproduce to develop particular phenotypic traits that will benefit us. This will result in the
offspring to be superior to its parents. Selecting breeding can be both intentional and unintentional.
For example, unintentional selection may be caused during cultivation in some grains, an increase
in seed size may have resulted from

Cultural Genocide Definition
Cultural Genocide
What is cultural genocide? Is it the destruction of a race, or the destruction of their history and
religion. But to discuss this first we need to know what the concept of what Cultural Genocide
is, it was made by a Jewish Polish lawyer named Raphael Lawkins, as a component of genocide.
One theory is that he made the definition of cultural genocide as: the systematic destruction of
racial, political, or cultural group . But the reason why it s, in theory, is because he made the
word in reference of the United Nations Bill of Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People
when he was working on it. Although because the word was scrapped and removed in the final
draft and replaced with the word genocide, it ended with the precise definition of cultural genocide
unclear and vague. Because of this, the word Ethnocide is used by Ethnologists instead of cultural
genocide. But regardless this word has become so powerful and useful when relating it to the
horrible historic events like the Nazis, vilifying and destroying Jewish culture, and Genghis Khan
destroying the Baghdad house of wisdom, with the residential schools in Canada, that was meant to
Kill the Indian in the child .
It s a well known fact, that Nazi Germany put the exact same effort into destroying Jewish culture
as they did into fighting world war two. Inside the literary masterpiece Anne Frank The Diary Of
A Young girl the start of the book showed how they were limiting and destroying Jewish culture
with laws and jurisdictions. In the book, anne stated that: Jews were required to do their
shopping between 3 and 5 P.M.; Jews were required to frequent only Jewish owned barbershops
and beauty parlors... . Another good example is the night of broken glass, In terms, the night of
broken glass was a response to the death of Ernst vom Rath who was killed by Herschel
Grynszpan a Jewish student. So in two days, 1000 synagogues were burned, 7,500 Jewish
businesses destroyed, with 91 Jews killed and 30,000 arrested. In the famous book The Book Thief
, It did an excellent job of portraying the horrifying events of the Kristallnacht (Night of Broken
Glass) but it also bring another piece of cultural genocide into the spotlight, The

Red Dress In Western And Native American Culture
Family and friends gather together to unite a young men and woman in marriage. As the doors
open everyone sees the beautiful bride entering the room wearing a beautiful red dress. Yes, a
red dress. In China, brides wear a red dress to represent good luck, love and prosperity. This
tradition goes back to many years and now many traditions are still present such as the red dress,
the red decorations and the familyand friends gathered together with the new couple. For other
cultures it might look weird to see a red dress rather than a white dress, like the ones that is used in
western, eastern and Native American cultures. Though this research paper I ll discuss the
engagement process, a little more information about the wedding dress, the wedding itself and the
post wedding rituals.

The dress is one of the most important parts of the ceremony. The dress has expensive and

hired to work their magic in the dress. The brides can either wear a Qi Pao, Gua, Kwa or a

the other hand, Gua, Kwa and Chengsam dresses are more traditional two piece dresses with are

Interviewing a Friend
Humans are complex and intricate beings. They think, behave and look different. They are
different in their personalities and attitudes; and their way of thinking and behaving also differ. I
have found in my experience that the best way to know others is to interact and to socialize. My
life has been filled with lots of people with whom I have interacted and who have taught me a
valuable lesson. When thinking of people that I have come across in my life, I thoughtof

comes from another life. While interviewing him, I found many things common in between him
and me. One of those was the cultural shock that we experienced in the United States. Besides, both
of us seem to have more or less same kind of experiences in the United States. We talked about
our visit to cities like Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans. We also discussed about our interest in
sports and music. It was really a good conversation. But there was one thing about which we had
different opinions. And it was all about politics. I don t get involved in politics. I like to stay
away from it. But he likes politics. He likes writing articles on social and political issues. I feel
his opinion is very true in his sense. I hate politics because most of the politicians in our country
are corrupt and work for their own benefits.
I had a great time interviewing Nabaraj. I am glad that I got an opportunity to talk to someone
who is an international student like me and is from my own country, Nepal. The interview with
him made me realize that I should really need to work on some of the principles of his life. I would

Nursing education , sub topic 1 Concepts of nursing education . Nursing education can be defined
as a practical and theoritical training given to either student nurses or nurses with the sole aim of
preparing them towards carrying out their profesional duties as nurses. In my explanation I included
nurses because nursing education is not meant for student nurses alone, even the registered nurses
can still undergo some training to help them upgrade themselves and give effective nursing care to
their patients. Nursing education can also be defined as a professional education which is

And The Imporatance In The Gambler, By Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Gambler and the imporatance of distinct charachters in novels
No one can deny that the psychological novel displays to the greatest extent how a variety of
different characters is important for an enjoyable read. Such is the emphasis on the internal events
and the inner mental life of its characters, that this type of the novel is probably one of a kind in
which characterization is more prominent than in all other literary genres. First examples originate
from earlier epochs, but only a few could argue whether one of the greatest representatives of this
genre was a Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky or not. Though he is best known for his other
novels, Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed and The Brothers Karamazov, this text
offers a take on characters of his fascinating short novel The Gambler which was written in 1866.
Two topics are woven within the zealously intricated storyline. The one is desperate longing for a
distant woman and the another one is a passion for gambling that Dostoyevsky himself at the time
was struggling with. At the same time, the novel was inspired by the topic ... Show more content on

If the govt sells more bonds this is likely to cause interest rates to increase. This is because they

If govt interest rates increase this will push up other interest rates as well. * Crowding Out
Increased govt borrowing may cause a decrease in the size of the private sector (see fiscal policy)

Similarities Differences Between the U.K. U.S. Political Systems
Introduction
The political system in the USA is claimed to be inspired by the British system. Albeit similar in
some ways it differs in many important aspects.
The British operate with a democratic parliamentary government, headed by a prime minister and
monarch. The U.S. is governed by a federal constitutional republic having three branches of
government, i.e. the executive, legislative, and judicial all sharing powers.
Notwithstanding these differences, both have a lot in common, such dual house legislatures and
prominent political parties.

The Food Personalities Of Gender Expectations
After finishing an initial review of the shows, I identified common themes between the food
personalities in terms of gender expectations. From this sample, I identified five culinary personas:
homemaker, non traditional female, craftsman, explorer, and non traditional male (gastrosexual).
Even though these hosts had unique characteristics, the thematic presence of genderdivision
between domestic cooking and professional cooking underlined all the personalities. These
identified attributes for the most part do adhere to the traditional femininityand masculinitywith
some divergent examples.

knowledge of baking and often gives critical suggestions for how the dessert could be better. This
professional expertise separates her from the rest of female hosts because her professionalism and
absence from the domestic setting draws attention to her greater culinary authority than untrained
home cooks.
While Eastwood departs from the traditional female attributes, she highlights the attributes
associated with traditional masculinity. These personas represent professional culinary authorities
whose legitimacy stems from artistic experimentation and technical training. These personas find
motivation by sharing culinary knowledge and are associated with traditionally masculine
occupations like craftsman or explorer. Like the feminine personalities, the

Proteins Are Colonic Epithelial Receptors For C. Difficile...
Finally, a paper published in September 2016 reveals that frizzled proteins are colonic epithelial
receptors for C. difficile toxin B [22]. As they are introducing their studies of identifying
potential TcdB receptors, they highlight some downfalls in previous studies, such as the fact
that whilst CSPG4 was showed as an interacting receptor with Toxin B in HeLa and HT29 cells
[17], CSPG4 is not actually present in the colonic epithelium [23]. Also, they comment on the
fact that PVRL3 was shown only to be associated with TcdB cytotoxicity and not proof of
PVRL3 acting as a receptor itself [13], however, there was evidence of PVRL3 interaction with
TcdB, as discussed above [14]. This study used a genome wide screen via CRISPR/Cas9
mutagenesis and identification of TcdB resistant mutants, which identified the Wnt receptor
frizzled family (FZDs) as TcdB receptors [22]. This mutant screening with native TcdB also
confirmed CSPG4 as TcdB receptor and further studies showed it is CROP dependent [17, 22].
The highest ranking mutant of plasma membranes when screened with the truncated TcdB1 1830
was FZD2, a member of the Wnt receptor frizzled family (FZDs) [22]. In healthy cells, the Wnt
signaling, in which FZD proteins contribute to, are critical signal pathways involved in
proliferation and self renewal function of colonic epithelial cells [24, 25]. TcdB competes for Wnt
to bind to these regions, inhibiting Wnt signaling, which in turn affects the health of colonic cells
[22]. It

Charlemagne s palace at Aachen housed a chapel, Palatine Chapel, designed after Byzantine
churches. Much of the building material was recovered from classical ruins in Italy ( The

Analysis Of The Book Breaking The Land
Breaking the Land discusses three major components throughout the book; cotton, tobacco, and the
rice culture. Pete Daniel, the author, discusses the transformation of these three subjects throughout
history. The different agriculture crops are described by explaining the environment that they are in
and the difficulties they come across. The book explains how the cropsand the environment have
changed because of the difficulties they have faced. Diseases, race, inflation and deflation of crop
prices, laws, and the economy are some of the main problems that helped transform the
environment of the crop industry. The book explains in great detail the challenges that each crop
undertook to become a more modern industry, along with the increase of technology. Technology
plays a large role in creating a more modern life for the agricultureindustries. Daniel goes on to
explain the new technology that is used during the timeline of events for the development of
agricultural crops. In Breaking the Land , it is broken up into four different books. Each book is in
chronological order to when events happened in history. Every book has several chapters contained
in it that discusses the transformation of each crop. For example, book one: Three Southern
Commodity Cultures, 1880 1932 , contains three chapters. Each chapter discusses a specific crop
and the transformation during that time period. Each individual chapter tells the story and

In the Heroic Journey, the hero is someone who is missing or lacking something. For Oedipus,
this would be the health in Thebes. Thebes can not lift her head from the death surge of the
plague and it is Oedipus ultimate goal, as king, to end the plague and keep his citizens safe.
(Fitzgerald, 4) This would be the grail in Oedipus story, as well as the truth about his past and the
murder of king LaС—os. The first phase of the Hero s Journey is Separation from the Known and
this begins with The Call . The call invites the hero into the adventure, which in Oedipus case
would be Creon bringing back the prophecy from Delphi. Instantly, Oedipus questions what
defilement? and how shall [they] rid [themselves] of it? and that is the point where he willingly
accepts his journey. (Fitzgerald, 7) Creon acts as the herald, initiating the call when he brings the
news from the gods. The second step in phase one is The Threshold . The accusation of Oedipus as
the murderer of king LaС—os acts as the threshold because Oedipus enters into his real quest to
discover the truth about the murderer. Teirisias acts as the threshold guardian because he knows
that Oedipus killed LaС—os but because there is no help in the truth he refuses to give Oedipus
this information. (Fitzgerald, 17) Phase two of the hero s journey is Initiation and Transformation

Learning Styles And The Learning Style
In this essay I will be exploring the importance of learning styles and the effectiveness of them to
student nurses, providing evidence from learning theories and also acknowledging David Kolb s
experiential cycle (1984). Furthermore, I will be discussing my dominant learning style, providing
the advantages and disadvantages of my learningstyle on my learning and development,
considering the various ways I can improve my learning. I will also explain my weaker learning
style and express the different ways I can improve it, in making it an effective learning style for me
to improve the quality of my learning.
The Oxford dictionary of English (2010) defines learning as the acquisition of knowledge or skills
through study, experience or being taught . Each individual has their own preferred style of
learning, for example some individuals may prefer visual learning rather than text based learning
(Hughes, 2002). Due to each individual having and understanding their own preferred method of
learning, this helps them to process information and learning new things.
As a student nurse, it is vital that you understand how you learning because, this could have an
impact on your learning. Adding to this, being able to identify your learning style will help you to
make an understanding of something you do not understand. As a student nurse, I believe that
having understood my preferred learning style, I have been able to complete my assignments and

Birth Control Prescriptions
Eliminating the prescription for Birth Control provides an increased access for everyone,
encourages safe sex, reduces the effect of unwanted pregnancy and helps the economy. Birth
control is a method of medication that prevents pregnancy for women. The birth control pill has
been around for about 50 years and in 1916 a woman by the name of Margaret Sanger opened the
very first birth controlclinic in the United States and later served a 30 day sentence for it being
labeled as an unlawful nuisance (Brief History of Thompson 2). In the late 1930s, a judge put a
federal ban on birth control. In 1950, Margaret Sanger created the pill. Birth Control is a good

On average taxpayers, pay $11 million for prescription meds. If birth control was non

Control and other forms of contraceptives can cost from $6 to $112 every month. With the health
insurance can cost from anywhere of $5 to $40 (pack for one month) and generic brands can be
from anywhere to $5 to $15 and although it is covered by the insurance companies many teenagers
and adults cannot afford it putting a substantial amount on their lives and the choice to have sex or
not. The other issue is that teens that do not want their parents to know they are sexually active
need parents permission to get a prescription. Without that health insurance, great deals of women
find that birth control can become high priced. Between 2008 2009, a bankruptcy in the United
States showed that a high profile of unemployment and fiscal frustration were linked to family
planning agreements and the contraceptive use. In September 2009, a survey went around and
collected that because of the monetary task almost half of the women that were surveyed wanted
to hold off on the pregnancies or restrain the number of kids they want. About five years after the
recession ended the number of births in the United States rose for the first time in almost a decade

Protestant Ethic And The Spirit Of Capitalism
In chapter three Weber presents the final drawback between the Protestant ethic and the spirit of
capitalism. As previously mentioned, Weber also introduced the idea of a calling to worldly
pursuits. As he describes in this chapter, Lutheranism has a divinely sanctioned place in the world,
but for the first time the question of how well one performed and their role became significant.
Conversely, Weber does not consider that belief in a calling is adequate to explain the spirit of
capitalism. With this in mind, a calling can adhere to traditionalism since it implies that an
individual should assume their position in society without further motiviation to become more.
Catholicism after all was the basis for the traditional worldview. As an

Love Story Essay
I decided long ago that my parent s love story is worth writing about. My mom grew up in the
same red bricked house most of her life in Richland, Washington. She grew up with eight siblings
(she being number six) three sisters and five brothers. Grandpa Nelson was an engineer, along
with the rest of the people who lived on that street most of them being members of the church.
Grandma Nelson was a stay at home mom and raised my amazing aunts and uncles. My dad was
raised in a military familyand went to twelve different public schools. Grandpa Robinson was in
the Navy and for a short while, in the Air Force. Grandma Robinson has 11 children (the
youngest, Rebekah was a still born) and my dad was the second child. He has three brothers and
eight sisters. My dad claims Richland, Washington as his home even though he lived all over
the country. My parents technically met when they were in the same ward as kids. My grandma
Nelson was my dad s Den Leader in scouts. However, my parent s friendship became real when
they were teenagers and my dad was finally settled back in Richland. A story that was told by my
grandpa all the time before he died was one day while my dad and his family were sitting in the
pews of the chapel, my mom walked in and my dad leaned over to either is mom or dad and said
I m going to marry her one day. At the time, my dad was 17, while my mom was 14, so the

Diuretics Lab Report
Diuretics are substances that slow renal reabsorption of water and thereby cause diuresis, an
elevated urine flow, which in turn reduces blood volume. Lowering blood volume usually reduces
blood pressure activating baroreceptors to reflexively increase heart rate and thus increase blood
pressure. Naturally occurring diuretics include caffeine which is found in coffee and soda. The
following lab was designed to illustrate the effect of caffeine on urine volume, urine osmolality, and
heart rate at 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 90 minutes post consumption of nothing, soda, and coffee

My Father Lost My Life
In the Summer of 2012, my father lost his job. I was only 12, and I had little understanding as to
why my mother was so upset. My parents fought about my father s unemployment for days, leaving
me scared for the condition of my family. Eventually, my father went ahead and took out his life
insurance money, and I was left wondering why my father could not just find another job. Despite
the fact that my father had a side business, my familystruggled. I watched as the food in my house
diminished and common necessities seemed to disappear. For each week in the month, my
family only had fifty dollars to spend on all the food we needed plus toiletries. Being that I was
young, I had no comprehension as to why I could not have the newest shoes or iPhone. I envied
other kids that had a kitchen filled with snacks and food, and as a result I tried to never be at
home in my depressing kitchen. To say the least, I was angry with the world. I felt outraged that
I could not get simple things such as a chocolate bar and I pondered on how I use to be able to
pile stuff into a cart with no thought about the bill that would be put on my father s bank account. I
will admit, I was a spoiled child. I could get away with buying hundreds of dollars worth of stuff
and feel no remorse for my spending, but alas, the reality of the economy and my father s
unemployment hit me. There was a sense of hopelessness in my heart. I often wondered if my
parents marriage would survive, if we would have to skip a meal or two, if I would have enough
money for school supplies, and if college would even be an option for me. I was forced to
swallow my pride and accept that the easy life I once had was now non existent. At the age of
sixteen, my father still only had his side business. While this brought a source of income, I knew
it was not enough to support our family of three. I was at the age where I could legally work so I
sought out every job I could apply for and hoped that I could help my parents in whatever way I
could. Perhaps the most defining moment in my life was seeing how my motherand father both
sacrificed meals and necessities for me. This sent a sense of urgency throughout my being, an urge

Family Dynamics
While taking Introductory Sociology with Professor Cole Smith this semester, the course revealed
concepts covering various topics about society and the world around us. During the course, the
ideas and concepts covered were impressionable because of the nature of the content. Each chapter
discussed controversial topics challenging the way the students previously perceived information.
However, there are chapters in this course that have been the most influential. For example, chapter
one covered the theoretical perspectives, chapter four examined the concept of the social
construction of reality, and chapter twelve exploring the family dynamic. Although each chapter
provided insight on various subjects, the information allows for the reader... Show more content on

The textbook defines and explains the sociological perspective on family. Society has changed
the family dynamic, and has created a different definition than in previous years. I was surprised
to learn that not everyone in society believes they should support their children, and the parents
are not responsible for providing support. This concept is a hard one to understand because I
was raised to accept help from the man of the family, and to let the man provide for all the needs
for the family. The chapter also discusses mate selection, authority, and inheritance. I was also
surprised to learn that there is not a historical record of women dominating men in society. Roles
in the family are an important part in society because they provide basic guidelines for how
members in the family function and their roles. One of the most interesting topics was the
section on courtship. Some people in society do not believe that love will exist until after a
marriage occurs. This concept is shocking, and is confusing because in western society, people
idolize love and the ideas behind being in love with someone, and sharing a life with someone.
Many people believe that love happens at the right place and right time, but people in other parts
of the world do not see marriage in the same light. Another interesting fact stated in the textbook
is interracial marriages. Some changes in society are harmful, but others do not affect society as
much as people think. Also, the dynamic of family is changing according to how many children
are born to each family. People now are wanting smaller families, and before things changed it
was important for men to breed bigger families to carry on the last name. I think this chapter has
opened my eyes to how much society has changed from the time I was in high school until now.

Epilogue Of George Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men
Epilogue
Two hours after George killed Lennie, George was at the bar with Curley and Slim to get a
drink, and the three began talking about Lennie, making George start to think if he had done the
right thing by shooting Lennie in the head. After the three left the bar, George walked out onto
the street and saw Curley s wife walking down the street. George decided to shrug it off and told
himself that it was all part of his imagination, and George returned to his house. Three years later,
George had built the house by the lake that Lennie had wanted, and George had buried Lennie s
body in the backyard. Later, George had decided to go to the bar to get a drink, when he got to
the bar he saw Slim and Carley, and Curley s wife all talking with each other. When the group saw
George, he was in awe I thought that Lennie killed you... he said to Curley s wife, Curley replied
excitedly Nope, i m not sure how but she is alive! George was still confused, then Slim said Stop
asking so many questions and come have a drink George had then began thinking about how the
only reason he killed Lennie was because Lennie went too far to save by killing Curley s wife.
After that, George had began disconnecting himself with the rest of the group because he had
become depressed after he had learned that Lennie wasn t a murderer. Just as George was
thinking about how he shouldn t have killed Lennie, he heard a knock on his door, and he went
to see who it was, Curley s wife was at the door with Slim, and both were looking sad. George had
opened the door for them, and said What happened? Curley s wife looked back at him, and
informed him that Curley had been murdered. George beckoned the two inside is house, and
said Come in, do either of you want anything to drink? Curley s wife shook her head Slim walked
her inside. The three sat down at a table in George s house Tell me what happened George said
nervously, Curley s wife replied, I was having an argument with Curley and he had gotten angry
and stormed off, later, when i went looking for him, I found him in the ranch, with an axe wound in
his head. Curley s wife started crying and Slim looked at George, She came to me and told me the

What Degrees Are Important For Marine Biologists
Important Questions
What degrees are important for marine biologists?
Some schools offer a marine biology degree and most of these are located in coastal states, but
the undergraduate degree need not be in marine biology. It can be in biology, zoology, fisheries, or
one of the other animal sciences. Physical oceanographers, who study the physical as opposed to
the biological aspects of the sea, may work toward an oceanography degree, with coursework
weighted heavily in physics, mathematics, and computer modeling. Biological oceanographers
study both the biological and physical aspects of the sea and their interactions. Your best bet
would be to refer to the guides mentioned above and contact the schools that interest you and
learn more about the programs and degrees they offer. A bachelor s or master s degree is usually
required for most starting marine biological research jobs, but you should also be aware that the
usual level of education required to carry out independent research in biology is a Ph.D., so if you
are serious about a full time career and want to organize your own research projects, you should get
your doctorate.

the social sciences are also recommended for occupations that deal mainly with the public, public

The Ideas Of Women In Literature, By Siegfried Sassoon
Women in Literature Throughout generations women have been always been treated as second
class citizens in society. This concept is portrayed in many different novels from past
generations, it is shown how women had to live by societies will or else they would be out
casted and left in isolation. They were discredited, such as their help during the first Great War
and described unfavorably by men in literature and even some women in society. To society
women were to be homemakers, while the men were to do all the hard labor and provide food
for the family. Literature was a place where the divide was shown clearly. Many male writers
describe the female gender as weak willed and oblivious to the world around them. Men would
write women as fanciful and that they were made to please men. This is not the case when it came
to women writers, women would describe women as strong and in a positive favor. Women always
believed that with the right education they would be at an equal level to their male counter parts.
When it comes to a man writing about women they tend to be harsh and judgmental towards
women, describing them as foolish and ignorant to the world around them. During the twentieth
century ideas of women s rights were appearing but that did not stop the discrimination of women.
An example of this unjust idea, is a poem written by a twentieth century poet, named Siegfried
Sassoon. The poem is called Glory of Women and it is about the Great War and how women

Overall, his actions appear to be unethical. 13 Accounting flexibility refers to managers discretion
in choosing among numerous acceptable accounting policies that cover the same subject. 14 If
CA had achieved the same financial results within allowed accounting flexibility , Richards
actions would be legal; but just because accounting is within the rules does not mean that it is
ethical. Furthermore, legality is a continuum, and the line between legal and illegal practices is
blurry, and subject to individual interpretation. Legality and ethics are also not co extensive, and
thus it would not significantly adjust my argument (D Souza, Jacob, Ramesh, 2001; Rizzi, 2002).
15 11 Shareholders were led to believe that CA was more profitable than it was, and consequently
suffered enormous losses. They had either paid more than they should have for the stock, or held
on to it when, if they had known the truth, they would have sold it. 12 This extra compensation was
at the expense of shareholders. 13 Richards actions would be considered unethical under the
utilitarianism position, as his actions harms others, and under deontological positions, as he did not
follow rules. In this sense, Richards actions would be regarded as much more serious under a
deontological position, than under a teleological parochialism position. 14 Accounting flexibility, or

The Book Of Proverbs In The Hebrew Bible
Introduction The Book of Proverbs, found in the Writings, the third division of the Hebrew
canon, is a unique book, entirely different from the rest of the Old Testament. There is no
mention of the Israelite forefathers, God s promises, or narrative of any event from Israelite
history. Similar to Job and Ecclesiastes within the genre of Wisdom literature, the Proverbs focus
on patterns of life to observe the acts of God , rather than declaring direct messages from him. The
purpose of Proverbs is to instruct the reader in attaining wisdom, the ultimate pursuit. The word
wisdom (hokmah in Hebrew) occurs thirty nine times and the adjective wise (hakam) forty seven
times throughout the 31 chapters. The scope of wisdom applied in the Book of Proverbsranges from
wealth to work to the words we speak, encompassing nearly every aspect of life.

Discus, an ancient athletic game originating in the ancient Greek Olympics, was one of the first
games in the athletic competition. A throwing contest involving a weighted metal or stone disc,
known as a discus, comparable to the modern day frisbee, competitors competed to see who could
throw the disc the farthest. Representing one fifth of the pentathlon event, the discus throw was a
popular Olympic event. It was later incorporated into the modern Olympics at the time of their

The Issue Of Rising College Tuition Essay
Throughout this project, I found that working through the Standard Agenda to solve a problem
was an effective way for a group to decide upon a solution. Even though our group was
unexperienced using the Standard Agenda, we were able to use each other s strengths to improve
the quality of our discussion about the issue of rising college tuition. Looking back to previous

our group did a good job for the most part on following the Standard Agenda. We were able to
complete steps three through six in roughly fifty one minutes. I feel that we did some portions of
the Standard Agenda well but faltered on other sections. For example, I believe that we should have
done a better job with consciously considering solution criteria as a group. At one point in the
conversation(throughout 16:00 to 17:00), I did not know that the solution criteria had been listed
on the whiteboard because we had not clearly defined that we were discussing it as a group. I
ended up interrupting the solution generation phase because I felt the criteria needed more
attention (around 17:49), even though we had naturally explored it for a short period of time
(13:17 14:25). I feel that the solution criteria step is vital to any

Finny s Death In A Separate Peace
Finny s death was a shock and a dark part of the novel, A Separate Peace. John Knowles, the
author, dissolved the drama between Gene and Finny. Sadly to say his death was necessary in the
novel even though it seemed to add more guilt towards Gene. A Separate Peace written by John
Knowles is a novel about Gene`s friendship with Finny. Throughout the summer before their junior
year at Devon, Gene has become jealous of Finny due to his athletic success and how he is known
throughout the school. Unfortunately, Finny broke his leg when climbing a tree along with Gene
which caused an end to his athletic career. There were rumors mentioning that Gene did it on
purpose because he wanted Finny s athletic career to end because of his swimming record, but
Finny denied so. After falling again toward the end of their junior year, he dies. Causing Gene to
finally realize he envied Finny.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was expected that something fatal would have occurred, but not at this standard. It added much
drama toward the conflict of Gene and Finny. The amount of time Finny was in severe pain added
a mood of suspense. It was a sorrowful moment, inferior than the war that was occurring at the
time. The cause of his death was obscure at first that it added tension, causing the reader to want
to know more until finally they found out, it was a relief. The cause of Finny s death was
unbelievable. You wouldn t expect his bone marrow to affect his blood stream. It made the reader
furious. Why would such an innocent and peaceful person die just because of a bone marrow?
Finny was such a intelligent and friendly person, the reader wouldn t expect someone like this to
die so soon. Finny s death was a tragic event in A Separate Peaceand was very

Closure of Public OHV Areas Essay
Closure of Public OHV Areas
Some years ago a new form of recreation came about known as an Off Highway Vehicle(OHV).
Today these high powered, light weight vehicles come in many forms with anywhere from four
to two wheels. There are many areas across the United States for such vehicles to be driven but
as of today there are some groups out there who wish to close the areas in which these vehicles
can be used. One area in particular, located outside of Yuma on the California and Arizona border
has been subjected to many threats recently and those who use the land for its recreational purposes
have had to fight to keep the land that was originally granted to them for use by the US government.
This one area is what many would call a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are no valid points brought to light by the CBD to logically explain why the imperial sand
dunes outside of Yuma need to be closed to off road use. To look into this argument requires that
you look more deeply into the issues that are really at hand. Now that the CBD has no claims
that support what they actually stand for, that being of something environmentally related, they
must now tread onto foreign territory saying such things as While most people who come to the
Imperial Sand Dunes respect the law and each other, as ABCNEWS reported, crimes such as
alcohol and drug abuse and acts of violence and vandalism have grown in recent years and
become a serious issue (ABCNEWS.com). and It s just a rave party mentality with offroad
vehicles mixed with violence, It s just a crazy area (James Gilbert). These are the new arguments
coming forth from the sierra club activists now that their bet which they had so heavily weighted
their chips has fallen through. To make statements such as this clearly shows the weaknesses in
the CBD s argument because they have had to leave their original stance and move onto
something that does not concern them what so ever. To make a claim such as this would be the
same as if the CBD said there should be no more rock and roll concerts because of the violence
and drug use that is associated with them. The aforementioned claim is of no relevance to what the
CBD is arguing for and in turn should be immediately

The Terrestrial And Aquatic Intelligence Of Linda Hogan Essay
In his article The Terrestrial and Aquatic Intelligence of Linda Hogan (1999), Donelle N. Dreese
stresses that water (is) a recurring image for physical and psychological healing in a
contemporary world of sexism, drought, violence, and hunger. (Dreese 1999: 8) The four writers
studied in this thesis use an ecofeminist activism that brings together women and water imagery to
expose male exploitation of women and nature on an aquatic terrain. (Dreese 2002: 73) However,
the researcher s analysis of oppression and exploitation focuses not only on the mutual oppression
of women and elements of nature (here water) but on how one oppressive system is interrelated
with all forms of oppression as well, whether these forms are based on gender (women), natural
elements (water), race (American Indians), or on ethnicity and cultural minority (Nubians). The
interrelatedness of oppressive systems is explained in Huey li Li quotation of what Sheila Collins
states that racism, sexism, class exploitation, and ecological destruction are four interlocking pillars
upon which the structure of patriarchy rests. (Li 289) In addition, Karen J. Warren asserts, Andy
Smith quotes, that because all feminists do or must oppose the logic of domination which keeps
oppressive conceptual frameworks in place, all feminists must also oppose any isms of domination
that are maintained and justified by that logic of domination. (Smith 21) To support the notion of
the interrelatedness of oppressive

Solon and Aristocracy
In this paper, I intend to explore the conflicts that arose between those of the aristocratic society,
and those who composed the vast number of peasants before, as well as after the life and times of
Solon, and the effect and solutions that Solon s rule had concerning these conflicts. Such major
conflicts between peasants and aristocrats include, [but are not limited to] land and slavery
(Trumbach). Though, these laws will be explored further later on in this essay. The ruler, Solon
imposed a number of laws in order to rectify the problems that were arising between aristocrats and
peasants, as well as to mold Athenian society in a much more citizen oriented way of living
(Trumbach). Such laws included relieving the prior debts that... Show more content on

The first section of this piece will attempt to explore the conflicts that occurred between the
aristocrats and the peasants in Solon s Athens on the basis of land and slavery, and the solutions
that Solon posed in the form of laws, as well as the effects that they had on the citizens of the
time. There were city of Athens was divided into three parts; there was the Hill, the Plain, and
the Shore (Plutarch: Solon, 54). Each division contained it s own people with different political
views. The Hill supported an extreme democracy, whereas the Plain supported an extreme
oligarchy, and the Shore wanted a government that wasn t quite an oligarchy, and wasn t quite a
democracy. The Shore wanted a government that was modeled after, and was a mix of both
democracy and oligarchy (Plutarch: Solon 54). The presence of this third party made it very
difficult for either extreme party to rise above the other (Plutarch: Solon 54). The land quality of
the peasants was very poor and it was located in the barren part of the city, however the rich
owned vast amounts of good quality land (Trumbach). It was very common to find peasants in
debt to the aristocrats because of their bad quality land. Many times, commoners would cultivate
on the land owned by the aristocrats, and pay them one sixth of the produce that was harvested
(Plutarch: Solon, 54). It was also apparent that peasants would use themselves as collateral, and
were often seized as debt slaves by their

Compare And Contrast Walter And Mama In A Raisin In The Sun
In the book A Raisin in the Sun by Larraine Hansberry, Walter and Mama are the two most
influential characters to the plot. Walter is obnoxious and always thinks about himself while
Mama is forceful and very strict. They both play a major role in the story. Both have changed or
impacted the plot and characters feelings and or thoughts. Without them in the story it would be
very different. Walter is a very important character and impacts everybody by his actions and
what he says and does. Walter changes a lot throughout the story. He begins to become very
hostile and short tempered towards his family. He starts to lose all his family values and only
starts to worry and care about the check that is coming in. He says, did it come? will somebody
please listen to me today!!! This shows that he wants everyone to listen to his idea about what
he wants to do with the money. While he wants this, he shows no care or regard to anyone else s
ideas or thoughts about it. The quotes show how selfish and rude he is, also it shows how he
has lost of all his family s values because he won t even listen to anybody else. Walter has
changed his whole family. He has started so much conflict with all his family. His family at this
rate will be better off without him. You ain t looked at it yet and you don t aim to speak on that
again? You ain t looked at it and you have decided well, you tell that to my boy tonight when you
put him to sleep on the living room couch. This just shows how much he wants to have HER
money for himself because he is selfish and a shallow person. He is the reason why the family is
tearing apart. Also, Walters actions show how edgy and inpatient he is. (Violently flinging the
coat after her) He starts to get very violent, he flings things, slams doors, yells at mama, and
starts to get verbally abusive towards her. He doesn t know how to let things go and how to
think in another person s perspective. He only wants to do what he wants, he doesn t care what
the other family members want he just knows what he wants to get and forces the decision upon
them all. In this book Mama plays a very important role. She is the head of the house and has a
major part in what people can and cannot do. She has the

Similarities Between William Bradford And Captain John Smith
The Founding Writers Captain John Smith and Governor William Bradford were two very
important men in the New World. In the early 1600s, the men both wrote of the many experiences
they endured in early America. The two scholars did not have much in common except for that fact.
The two had different occupations, felt otherwise about the Native Americans, and had distinctive
writingstyles. However, the two men were to become two of the United Statesfounding writers.
Captain John Smith was a very important person in Jamestown. Cooper wrote, Captain John Smith
played a pivotal role in establishing Jamestown as a member of the governing council and in
providing food for the settlers by trading with the Native Americans (Cooper 2). This quote... Show

He arrived at Plymouth from the Mayflower. While on the Mayflower he signed the Mayflower
Compact. This was one of the first steps into his leadership of the Pilgrim people. William
Bradford was the Plymouth Governor for almost thirty years. He was very important in leading
the Pilgrim people and helping them to survive that harsh first winter. The Pilgrims left their
homeland in search of religious freedom. Bradford believed that he and his people were chosen
by God to complete the mission of reformation. Daly writes, He begins his narrative, not with the
Pilgrims themselves, but with the previous history of reformation. Only after he has established
salvation history as the context for the Plymouth migration does he describe the people God has
chosen to live the last chapter of His reformation of the earthly church. Confident of God s
assistance, they rested on His providence an found earthly rewards for their keeping of covenant,
for though they were sometimes foiled, yet by God s assistance they prevailed and got the
victory (Daly 560). Daly is describing how William Bradford put his faith in God for their
survival. He believed God sent them on a special mission, and that God would see them through
all of the hard times. This is one of the reasons that William Bradford was such a powerful leader.
The Pilgrims put God above all, and because William Bradford made it known that he did too, they
followed him and trusted him. Without William Bradford s leadership the Pilgrims would have
been lost. The winter would have been even harsher, and many more would have

Human Body Decomposition
What happens to the human body after death? What dictates the beginning of death? Why do
human bodies decompose? These are all questions that have led to the study of the decomposition
of the human body, along with the need for identifying the time of death for forensic reasons.
The heart ceasing to pump blood throughout the body, marks the beginning of death. Four minutes
after death, decomposition begins4. There are four main stages of decomposition: stage one is
referred to as fresh or autolysis, stage two is bloat or putrefaction, stage three includes
putrefaction and carnivores and is referred to as decay4. The final stage is dry and includes
diagenesis4. These stages can happen simultaneously and it is possible for a stage to be skipped4. ...

The first proteins to be destroyed are usually the neuronal and epithelial tissue proteins, which
include the lining membrane of the gastro intestinal tract5. The epidermis, reticulum, collagen, and
muscle protein are more resistant5. The keratin is in insoluble fibrous protein and is resistant to
attack by most proteolytic enzymes5. This is due to the disulfide bonds between the cysteine
structures5. The breakdown of these proteins is aided by physical or microbial damage5. Proteins
will break down into polypeptides, amino acids, peptones, and proteoses5. The sulfur containing
amino acids will further be decomposed and yield sulfide products5. Under anaerobic conditions,
the product is not further transformed, but under aerobic conditions, it will disappear and become
oxidized to sulfate through a series of steps5. When proteins undergo proteolysis, most of the soil
microbes use the amino acids for energy, except for nitrogen5. Nitrogenis converted to ammonia
through multiple reactions5. This ammonia can be used by plants or microbes, or converted to
nitrate and move into the groundwater system5. These ammonium ions can reenter living

The Pros And Cons Of Fuzzy Logic
As mentioned in the previous section of this chapter trend analysis, analyze just changes in the past
years in electricity demand and utilize it to predict future electricity demand, but there is no process
to explain why these changes happened. End users and behavior of end user are not important in
this model. But in end use method of forecasting, statistical information related to customers along
with amount of change act as the basis for the forecast.
While in Economical methods, the results are estimated upon the relationship between dependent
variables and factors that influence electricity consumption. Time series and least square method
are used to estimate the relationship. Comparison of these three parametric model shows that ...

2.3Factors Affecting Accurate Demand Forecast
The operation of electricity system is strongly influenced by the accuracy of demand forecast as
economy and control of electric power system is quite sensitive to forecasting errors [44 45]. The
four important factors affecting load forecast are:
I.Weather conditions Electricity demand has a strong correlation to weather. To develop an efficient
and accurate demand forecasting model for electricity much effort has been put to find a
relationship between the weather and the demand of electricity. The change in comforts of
customer due to change in weather conditions resulting in usage of appliances likes air conditioner,
space heater and water heater. It also includes use of agricultural appliances for irrigation. The
pattern of demand differs greatly in the areas with large meteorological difference during summer
and winter. Dry and wet temperature, humidity, dew point, wind speed, wind direction, sunshine
and amount of precipitation are common weather parameters that influence electricity demand.
Among the weather variables listed above, two composite weather variable functions, the cooling
degree days and heating degree days are broadly used by utility

Luke advises his son, Nigel, about how to interact with white people. Luke does his work in a
satisfactory fashion and keeps others in line. This is inspiring to Dana because he shows her
how to hide her inner rebellion with a calm, humble approach. Luke eventually is sold for
carrying himself like a white man . This shows that slaves behavior is mostly irrelevant and they
are just sold for no reason or put up for any crime possible. They are just portrayed as something
to be made a profit. This quote shows the importance of the plot as the way slaves were portrayed
and treated.

  • 2. Theme Of Ode On A Grecian Urn By John Keats Life s mysteries are best stated in writing. Some mysteries are revealed, while others remain unknown forever. John Keats, one of England s greatest poets, published several poems, including one of his most famous ones in 1819, Ode on A Grecian Urn (Keats 247). Keats was a renowned poet during the British Romantic period. Romantic literature focused on beauty and emotions. So, what is the significance of the scenes depicted on the mysterious urn? Is the urn simply a masterpiece of art with emphasis only on physical beauty? In the poem, Ode on A Grecian Urn, John Keatscreates mysterious scenes on a Greek urn to contrast between everlasting art and human life. Keats contrasts both worlds through the urn s elaborate description, the theme of personal relationships, and the ultimate message of beauty, with significant relevance to modern times. The poems ambiguities begin with the speaker describing the urn. However, these ambiguities are not just intended by Keats to remain enigmatic, they are there to be connected like a puzzle, piece by piece. As the speaker, who is a mystery himself, describes the urn, it is evident that he is bewildered with a spark of curiosity, attempting to grasp the meaning of the scenes (Mishra 51). The speaker first states what he sees from a distance. He describes the distinct advantages of the urn as an object, Thou still unravished bride of quietness...foster child of silence and slow time (Keats 247). He defines the world of art as ... • 3. Factors Affecting Voice Differences Before puberty all voices, male or female, sound alike. But as the hormones come into play, they cause the male larynx to become larger and the vocal folds lengthen and thicken. Not only are there internal factors that play a role in the voice changing there are also physical factors, depending on the height and weight of an individual that could affect the tone, pitch and frequency. The purpose of this assignment was to better understand these differences. As defined in our class manual, voice onset time (VOT) refers to the time difference between a voiced stop closure and a voiceless stop. It is determined by the articulatory blockage at the beginning of vocal fold vibration for the following vowel. Among the various factors of VOT variations include; phonetic context, place of articulation, speech tempo, and speakers gender. For voiceless stops, women display longer VOT than men. For voiced stops however, the results are rather mixed. Which makes sense if you look at the characteristics of mine and Marks h d words, you will notice there are multiple differences within our tokens regarding formant frequencies. However we show similarities with our durations. So I wondered at first if this had anything to do with the tokens being the same word, or if it was the vowel production. Differences between the speech of men and women relates to the formant patterns associated with vowel production. Although men have low frequency vowel formants than women, the differences in ... • 4. Human Manipulation Of Genetic Transfer And Its Biological... AS91607 Demonstrate understanding of human manipulations of genetic transfer and its biological implications By Ryan Neill (3 credits) Case Study 1: Selective Breeding Organism: Cattle (Bos Taurus) Over time, all organisms are subject to natural selection. Natural selection is where Nature selects against traits that either disadvantage the organism or against traits that are not of any use to the organism; these are known as adaptations. These adaptations can be seen in many forms. They include: behaviours that allow better evasion of predators, an anatomical feature that improves their chances of survival (this could include brighter colours to find a breeding partner or larger horns to fight off predators), or a protein that functions better at body temperature. These could all be adaptations. Natural selection is the result of variation and heredity. It is not considered random as it is nature s way of selecting the superior organisms to carry its species into the future with the best chance of survival. Humans have carried out selective breeding for centuries. Selective breeding is the process by which humans select which animals or plants reproduce to develop particular phenotypic traits that will benefit us. This will result in the offspring to be superior to its parents. Selecting breeding can be both intentional and unintentional. For example, unintentional selection may be caused during cultivation in some grains, an increase in seed size may have resulted from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Cultural Genocide Definition Cultural Genocide What is cultural genocide? Is it the destruction of a race, or the destruction of their history and religion. But to discuss this first we need to know what the concept of what Cultural Genocide is, it was made by a Jewish Polish lawyer named Raphael Lawkins, as a component of genocide. One theory is that he made the definition of cultural genocide as: the systematic destruction of racial, political, or cultural group . But the reason why it s, in theory, is because he made the word in reference of the United Nations Bill of Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People when he was working on it. Although because the word was scrapped and removed in the final draft and replaced with the word genocide, it ended with the precise definition of cultural genocide unclear and vague. Because of this, the word Ethnocide is used by Ethnologists instead of cultural genocide. But regardless this word has become so powerful and useful when relating it to the horrible historic events like the Nazis, vilifying and destroying Jewish culture, and Genghis Khan destroying the Baghdad house of wisdom, with the residential schools in Canada, that was meant to Kill the Indian in the child . It s a well known fact, that Nazi Germany put the exact same effort into destroying Jewish culture as they did into fighting world war two. Inside the literary masterpiece Anne Frank The Diary Of A Young girl the start of the book showed how they were limiting and destroying Jewish culture with laws and jurisdictions. In the book, anne stated that: Jews were required to do their shopping between 3 and 5 P.M.; Jews were required to frequent only Jewish owned barbershops and beauty parlors... . Another good example is the night of broken glass, In terms, the night of broken glass was a response to the death of Ernst vom Rath who was killed by Herschel Grynszpan a Jewish student. So in two days, 1000 synagogues were burned, 7,500 Jewish businesses destroyed, with 91 Jews killed and 30,000 arrested. In the famous book The Book Thief , It did an excellent job of portraying the horrifying events of the Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) but it also bring another piece of cultural genocide into the spotlight, The ... As the doors open everyone sees the beautiful bride entering the room wearing a beautiful red dress. Yes, a red dress. In China, brides wear a red dress to represent good luck, love and prosperity. This tradition goes back to many years and now many traditions are still present such as the red dress, the red decorations and the familyand friends gathered together with the new couple. And The Imporatance In The Gambler, By Fyodor Dostoyevsky The Gambler and the imporatance of distinct charachters in novels No one can deny that the psychological novel displays to the greatest extent how a variety of different characters is important for an enjoyable read. Such is the emphasis on the internal events and the inner mental life of its characters, that this type of the novel is probably one of a kind in which characterization is more prominent than in all other literary genres. First examples originate from earlier epochs, but only a few could argue whether one of the greatest representatives of this genre was a Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky or not. Though he is best known for his other novels, Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed and The Brothers Karamazov, this text offers a take on characters of his fascinating short novel The Gambler which was written in 1866. Albeit similar in some ways it differs in many important aspects. The British operate with a democratic parliamentary government, headed by a prime minister and monarch. The U.S. is governed by a federal constitutional republic having three branches of government, i.e. the executive, legislative, and judicial all sharing powers. Notwithstanding these differences, both have a lot in common, such dual house legislatures and prominent political parties. From this sample, I identified five culinary personas: homemaker, non traditional female, craftsman, explorer, and non traditional male (gastrosexual). Even though these hosts had unique characteristics, the thematic presence of genderdivision between domestic cooking and professional cooking underlined all the personalities. These identified attributes for the most part do adhere to the traditional femininityand masculinitywith some divergent examples. The emotion behind Drummond s cooking was reflected in the rest of women who fit this persona. This emotion and placement in the domestic kitchen displays the traditional feminine characteristics of emotionality and domesticity. While Food Network presented only traditionally feminine personas in their programing, Cooking Channel provided one female food personality who crossed traditional gender lines. Harry Eastwood, British host of Sinful Sweets, explores and travels the United States finding bakeries and confectionaries. As a culinary expert and accomplished chef, she casually discusses technical knowledge of baking and often gives critical suggestions for how the dessert could be better. This professional expertise separates her from the rest of female hosts because her professionalism and absence from the domestic setting draws attention to her greater culinary authority than untrained home cooks. While Eastwood departs from the traditional female attributes, she highlights the attributes associated with traditional masculinity. These personas represent professional culinary authorities whose legitimacy stems from artistic experimentation and technical training. These personas find motivation by sharing culinary knowledge and are associated with traditionally masculine occupations like craftsman or explorer. Like the feminine personalities, the ... • 17. Proteins Are Colonic Epithelial Receptors For C. Difficile... Finally, a paper published in September 2016 reveals that frizzled proteins are colonic epithelial receptors for C. difficile toxin B [22]. As they are introducing their studies of identifying potential TcdB receptors, they highlight some downfalls in previous studies, such as the fact that whilst CSPG4 was showed as an interacting receptor with Toxin B in HeLa and HT29 cells [17], CSPG4 is not actually present in the colonic epithelium [23]. Also, they comment on the fact that PVRL3 was shown only to be associated with TcdB cytotoxicity and not proof of PVRL3 acting as a receptor itself [13], however, there was evidence of PVRL3 interaction with TcdB, as discussed above [14]. This study used a genome wide screen via CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis and identification of TcdB resistant mutants, which identified the Wnt receptor frizzled family (FZDs) as TcdB receptors [22]. This mutant screening with native TcdB also confirmed CSPG4 as TcdB receptor and further studies showed it is CROP dependent [17, 22]. The highest ranking mutant of plasma membranes when screened with the truncated TcdB1 1830 was FZD2, a member of the Wnt receptor frizzled family (FZDs) [22]. In healthy cells, the Wnt signaling, in which FZD proteins contribute to, are critical signal pathways involved in proliferation and self renewal function of colonic epithelial cells [24, 25]. TcdB competes for Wnt to bind to these regions, inhibiting Wnt signaling, which in turn affects the health of colonic cells [22]. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the West witnessed a change, brought about by the constant invasion of barbarians, the Eastern Roman Empire remained intact and grew incredibly prosperous. These ties lead to many elaborate Byzantine churches being built in Constantinople, emphasizing the importance of the Eastern Church in everyday life. Much of the building material was recovered from classical ruins in Italy ( The Encyclopedia Britannica p.368 370). After the death of Charlemagne, the Holy Roman Empire assumed power. This time is referred to as the Ottonian age. The Ottonian s grew upon the designs of the Carolingian culture. Pete Daniel, the author, discusses the transformation of these three subjects throughout history. The different agriculture crops are described by explaining the environment that they are in and the difficulties they come across. The book explains how the cropsand the environment have changed because of the difficulties they have faced. Diseases, race, inflation and deflation of crop prices, laws, and the economy are some of the main problems that helped transform the environment of the crop industry. The book explains in great detail the challenges that each crop undertook to become a more modern industry, along with the increase of technology. Technology plays a large role in creating a more modern life for the agricultureindustries. Daniel goes on to explain the new technology that is used during the timeline of events for the development of agricultural crops. In Breaking the Land , it is broken up into four different books. (Fitzgerald, 4) This would be the grail in Oedipus story, as well as the truth about his past and the murder of king LaС—os. The first phase of the Hero s Journey is Separation from the Known and this begins with The Call . The call invites the hero into the adventure, which in Oedipus case would be Creon bringing back the prophecy from Delphi. Instantly, Oedipus questions what defilement? and how shall [they] rid [themselves] of it? and that is the point where he willingly accepts his journey. (Fitzgerald, 7) Creon acts as the herald, initiating the call when he brings the news from the gods. The second step in phase one is The Threshold . The accusation of Oedipus as the murderer of king LaС—os acts as the threshold because Oedipus enters into his real quest to discover the truth about the murderer. Teirisias acts as the threshold guardian because he knows that Oedipus killed LaС—os but because there is no help in the truth he refuses to give Oedipus this information. My parents fought about my father s unemployment for days, leaving me scared for the condition of my family. Eventually, my father went ahead and took out his life insurance money, and I was left wondering why my father could not just find another job. Despite the fact that my father had a side business, my familystruggled. I watched as the food in my house diminished and common necessities seemed to disappear. For each week in the month, my family only had fifty dollars to spend on all the food we needed plus toiletries. Being that I was young, I had no comprehension as to why I could not have the newest shoes or iPhone. I envied other kids that had a kitchen filled with snacks and food, and as a result I tried to never be at home in my depressing kitchen. To say the least, I was angry with the world. I felt outraged that I could not get simple things such as a chocolate bar and I pondered on how I use to be able to pile stuff into a cart with no thought about the bill that would be put on my father s bank account. I will admit, I was a spoiled child. I could get away with buying hundreds of dollars worth of stuff and feel no remorse for my spending, but alas, the reality of the economy and my father s unemployment hit me. There was a sense of hopelessness in my heart. I often wondered if my parents marriage would survive, if we would have to skip a meal or two, if I would have enough money for school supplies, and if college would even be an option for me. I was forced to swallow my pride and accept that the easy life I once had was now non existent. At the age of sixteen, my father still only had his side business. While this brought a source of income, I knew it was not enough to support our family of three. I was at the age where I could legally work so I sought out every job I could apply for and hoped that I could help my parents in whatever way I could. The textbook defines and explains the sociological perspective on family. Society has changed the family dynamic, and has created a different definition than in previous years. I was surprised to learn that not everyone in society believes they should support their children, and the parents are not responsible for providing support. This concept is a hard one to understand because I was raised to accept help from the man of the family, and to let the man provide for all the needs for the family. The chapter also discusses mate selection, authority, and inheritance. I was also surprised to learn that there is not a historical record of women dominating men in society. Roles in the family are an important part in society because they provide basic guidelines for how members in the family function and their roles. One of the most interesting topics was the section on courtship. Some people in society do not believe that love will exist until after a marriage occurs. This concept is shocking, and is confusing because in western society, people idolize love and the ideas behind being in love with someone, and sharing a life with someone. Many people believe that love happens at the right place and right time, but people in other parts of the world do not see marriage in the same light. Another interesting fact stated in the textbook is interracial marriages. Some changes in society are harmful, but others do not affect society as much as people think. Also, the dynamic of family is changing according to how many children are born to each family. People now are wanting smaller families, and before things changed it was important for men to breed bigger families to carry on the last name. I think this chapter has opened my eyes to how much society has changed from the time I was in high school until now. Living in a small town makes me feel oblivious to the ... Some schools offer a marine biology degree and most of these are located in coastal states, but the undergraduate degree need not be in marine biology. It can be in biology, zoology, fisheries, or one of the other animal sciences. Physical oceanographers, who study the physical as opposed to the biological aspects of the sea, may work toward an oceanography degree, with coursework weighted heavily in physics, mathematics, and computer modeling. This concept is portrayed in many different novels from past generations, it is shown how women had to live by societies will or else they would be out casted and left in isolation. They were discredited, such as their help during the first Great War and described unfavorably by men in literature and even some women in society. To society women were to be homemakers, while the men were to do all the hard labor and provide food for the family. Literature was a place where the divide was shown clearly. Many male writers describe the female gender as weak willed and oblivious to the world around them. Men would write women as fanciful and that they were made to please men. This is not the case when it came to women writers, women would describe women as strong and in a positive favor. Women always believed that with the right education they would be at an equal level to their male counter parts. When it comes to a man writing about women they tend to be harsh and judgmental towards women, describing them as foolish and ignorant to the world around them. During the twentieth century ideas of women s rights were appearing but that did not stop the discrimination of women. Furthermore, legality is a continuum, and the line between legal and illegal practices is blurry, and subject to individual interpretation. • 37. The Book Of Proverbs In The Hebrew Bible Introduction The Book of Proverbs, found in the Writings, the third division of the Hebrew canon, is a unique book, entirely different from the rest of the Old Testament. There is no mention of the Israelite forefathers, God s promises, or narrative of any event from Israelite history. Similar to Job and Ecclesiastes within the genre of Wisdom literature, the Proverbs focus on patterns of life to observe the acts of God , rather than declaring direct messages from him. The purpose of Proverbs is to instruct the reader in attaining wisdom, the ultimate pursuit. The word wisdom (hokmah in Hebrew) occurs thirty nine times and the adjective wise (hakam) forty seven times throughout the 31 chapters. Portions of the Proverbs may have been assembled due to a desire on the part of later scribes to preserve Israelite traditional wisdom, which was in danger of being forgotten. Even though our group was unexperienced using the Standard Agenda, we were able to use each other s strengths to improve the quality of our discussion about the issue of rising college tuition. Looking back to previous projects, I can see how our group has grown to betterunderstand the methods of effective group work. While there were both beneficial and impeding forces at work in the task and social processes, I feel that overall our group had a successful problem solving discussion. I believe that our group did a good job for the most part on following the Standard Agenda. We were able to complete steps three through six in roughly fifty one minutes. For example, I believe that we should have done a better job with consciously considering solution criteria as a group. At one point in the conversation(throughout 16:00 to 17:00), I did not know that the solution criteria had been listed on the whiteboard because we had not clearly defined that we were discussing it as a group. Dreese stresses that water (is) a recurring image for physical and psychological healing in a contemporary world of sexism, drought, violence, and hunger. (Dreese 1999: 8) The four writers studied in this thesis use an ecofeminist activism that brings together women and water imagery to expose male exploitation of women and nature on an aquatic terrain. (Dreese 2002: 73) However, the researcher s analysis of oppression and exploitation focuses not only on the mutual oppression of women and elements of nature (here water) but on how one oppressive system is interrelated with all forms of oppression as well, whether these forms are based on gender (women), natural elements (water), race (American Indians), or on ethnicity and cultural minority (Nubians). The interrelatedness of oppressive systems is explained in Huey li Li quotation of what Sheila Collins states that racism, sexism, class exploitation, and ecological destruction are four interlocking pillars upon which the structure of patriarchy rests. (Li 289) In addition, Karen J. Warren asserts, Andy Smith quotes, that because all feminists do or must oppose the logic of domination which keeps oppressive conceptual frameworks in place, all feminists must also oppose any isms of domination that are maintained and justified by that logic of domination.
