                                        Question # 1

In the beginning of the movie the protagonist perceives the world and his parents in one way,
by the end his perception of both (parents and world) change. How? Which factors play a
role in bringing about the change?

       Perception (before/beginning):

In the beginning of the movie, the protagonist perceived the world and his parents, in a
particular way. ‘Sid’ believed in living life easily. He preferred to wear casual clothes, he
considered himself as a below average student. He found extracurricular activities more
interesting than the basic chores of life. He disliked his dad’s company and its product,
unwilling to work there. Sid graded himself as good looking and perfect in other aspects.

       Factors:

          • Sid had a few old friends. He used to spend most of his time with them. They
were his companions. Among them, also was ‘Laxmi’. She was a good student.
She positively reinforced to Sid. She made Sid realize that it was not only he who
had problems in life. She encouraged him to overcome the problems.

          • Sid made a new friend, ‘Aisha’. She was an ambitious small town girl. She had a
goal of being independent. She wanted to become a professional writer. She was
also a source of inspiration to Sid. She made Sid realize that he is immature,
              should take life easily.

                                                                                                  2
Perception (after/end):

In the end of the movie, Sid’s perception of both (the world and his parents) changed.
After discovering his skills/ talent of photography, he realized that were adopted from
his father. His parents were also a part of the cause of success which Sid achieved.
Finally he got a job. He moved in back to his own house. He started taking life seriously.

                                        Question # 2

The protagonist has a positive or a negative self esteem. Explain with the help of an example
from the movie. How his self concept does undergoes a change. Explain with example?

The protagonist had a positive self esteem as well as a negative one, at various times:-

Example of positive self esteem from the movie:

Sid’s usual style was informal. He preferred to wear casual clothes. Even on the first day in
office went casual, but confidently. This proves that he liked himself, the way he was. A similar
idea can be perceived from another situation, when Sid and Aisha were having a conversation.
“I am perfect” he said about himself.

                                                                                               3
Example of negative self esteem from the movie:

In the beginning of the movie, Sid was daydreaming, while sitting in the exam. The way he
thought, others think about, is evident. He considered himself as a below average student. He
was not interested in studies.

Sid’s self concept undergoes a change. There are several reasons. He was reinforced by Aisha.
His friends motivated him to overcome the problems. His father stopped supporting him so that
he realizes. He discovered his skills of photography, which he learnt from his father in
childhood. In the end he had a strong self concept about himself.

                                      Question # 3

How does Aisha’s perception of Sid changes. Explain with examples?

Aisha’s perception of Sid changed. In the beginning she thought Sid is immature. He is non
serious about his life. He has no goals and ambitions. He doesn’t wish to be independent like

                                                                                            4
her. “You are not my type” she said to Sid. But, Aisha’s published article in ‘Mumbai beat’
magazine, describes a different perception of Sid.

Aisha mentioned that she started loving the new city. In Mumbai, Sid was her only new friend.
He was opposite to her. She might have not enjoyed her life without Sid. Apart from the article,
she liked Sid. Aisha expressed that she also loves her. In the end of the movie they expressed
their feelings of love to each other.

                                                                                              5
Question # 4

Interpersonal communication is inevitable, irreversible & unrepeatable. Explain with
examples from the movie?

Interpersonal communication is Inevitable, irreversible, unrepeatable. This statement is proved
with examples from the movie, given below:

Irreversible:
Sid was checking his results on the notice board, along with his friends Rishie and Laxmi. Sid
comes to know that he failed. His friends they passed. Sid got upset because of the situation.
Rishie tried to show sympathy. Sid expected Rishie to fail also. Sid considered himself wasting
time with him. Sid blamed Rishie for the consequences. Rishie felt bad about this situation and
got hurt. A conflict arises and their relationship broke up. So In whatever way Sid behaved at
that moment, cannot be reversed. Once what communicated, cannot be taken back.

Inevitable:
After the results announced, Sid came to know about his failure. He got depressed and isolated
himself in a room. His mother enters the room uninformed. She saw Sid sitting on a chair,
silent. Even though he didn’t spoke a word, unwilling to inform about the bad news, his mother
felt something is wrong. She inquires Sid to tell her about the bad news, his mother felt
something is wrong. She inquires Sid to tell her about what happened. Sid just informed her
that the results are out. But his mother figured it out herself by judging his nonverbal
communication. The expressions he had on his face, inevitably communicated the nonverbal
message.

                                                                                             6
Unrepeatable:
Sid failed in exam. It was not a big deal for his friends. He would reappear next year to pass was
acceptable, for his friends. But, the same explanation didn’t work with his parents. The
relationship was different this time so was the response. One can never recapture the exact
same situation, frame of mind, or relationship dynamics that defined a previous interpersonal
act.

                                             THE END

                                                                                                7
