Edward S.
Curtis
A Gallery by Izzi Grniet
This photo is my favorite because I like the
way Edward positioned the Native American and
how he is wear bearskin in the photo. I don’t like
how some of his face is a little too dark but
somehow it looks like it was meant to be like
that. I wouldn’t change anything in the photo
because it is my favorite.
The center of interest is obviously the Indian.
When I first looked at it I immediately looked at
his face and all the details Edward captured. The
way he centered his object was good because if
it were off-center, I would have wondered why it
wasn’t centered. The color of all his photographs
is a rusty sepia color which really adds to the
effect of the photo. It makes it seem old and
worn out and it really makes the photo that
much better.
This photo makes me feel intimidated
and curious. This is because of the straight
face and stare the Native American seems
to give me. He looks sort of sad in a way or
maybe even expressionless but I do feel
something from it.
My favorite part of this photo would have
to be how the Native American is wearing
the bear skin. It shows his culture and
background all in one photo. Edward did
really well incorporating their custom into
this photo.
