The United States And The Industrial Revolution
In the past 100 years, the world has shifted enormously. Once, a world that only communicated
when one nation was trying to take control of another, is now connected more than ever. This
transformation began with the Industrial Revolution in a period from around 1760 to 1840.
Thinking back to that time, we can easily think of noticeable differences between how the world
was and how it is today. The United States was a small, developing country, still trying to
overcome the effects of a costly revolution. Across the ocean, once the United States major rival,
Great Britain, was still the greatest power in the world. And around the world, China and Japan
were nowhere near the economic leaders they are today. However, the biggest changes weren t the
countries with the greatest power and size. With advances in technology in the Industrial
Revolution, the world began to revolutionize. The technologies that the world has come to
familiarize ourselves with today, such as the smartphone, weren t even blueprints yet. However, a
few of the technological advances that developed from that era helped mold the world into what it
is like today. Brink Lindsey states in the article, The Decline and Fall of the First Global Economy
that, The Industrial Revolution s burst of technological creativity, thus demolished the natural
barriers to trade posed by geography and created entirely new possibilities for beneficial
international exchange. For example, countries in the North Atlantic

Emotional Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s A Clean,...
In his short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place, Ernest Hemingway, uses his usual style of elegant,
yet unembellished, prose to depict one late night interaction between an old man, a young waiter,
and an older waiter. The story takes place at a cafГ© in Madrid, during the era following the Lost
Generation and is apparent, given the contrasting perspectives of the characters. The part of the
story where the young waiter refills the old man s brandy with an agitated demeanor and the old
man desires nothing more than to drink continuously, as he does on a nightly basis, illuminates the
broader concerns of the of the story. This passage, although centered around the story s supporting
characters, unveils the idea of nothingness before the reader s introduction to the word nada.
Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place, is a revelation to the elaborate complexity of emotional
fulfillment versus the existential crisis of spiritual and emotional emptiness, between the young and
the old, throughout this particular generational gap. Throughout the passage, we see the young
waiter go through a wide range of emotions, beginning with him feeling irritated, which becomes
perceivable after his initial statement: a terse What do you want? directed at the old man (153). He
then becomes condescending, telling the old man that he will be drunk if he continues drinking,
knowing that he cannot hear him and that getting drunk is, evidently, the old man s intentions
(154). Next, he tells

Rubber Egg Lab Essay examples
1.Discuss the structure of the plasma membrane and explain the process of active and passive
transport through the membrane. 2. Explain your observations in detail in terms of concentration
gradient, diffusion, osmosis, osmotic pressure, passive transport, and active transport. Explain what
happened to the blood cells at the various levels of concentration. Be sure to refer to the solutions as
being hypotonic, hypertonic and isotonic. The plasma membranes are made up of proteins that
form pores and channels, cholesterol to provide membrane stability and carbohydrate molecules for
cell recognition. The most abundant component found in the plasma membrane is the
phospholipid, which is bilayer. The plasma membrane is amphipathic... Show more content on

An example of active transport would be pushing a stroller up a hill. Passive transport is
diffusion across a membrane requiring only random motion of molecules with no energy
expanded by the cell. Another example of passive transport would be rolling a ball down a hill.
In the rubber egg lab also known as the osmosis lab, I first measured the circumference of the
egg which was 6 inches. The egg had no cracks and was hard. I placed the egg in the vinegar and
within seconds the egg started to bubble. These bubbles were carbon dioxide. After 72 hours the
shell of the egg had started to dissolve or flake. This would be considered passive transport as
the vinegar diffused across the egg shell without any force. Seventy two hours into the
experiment the membrane was exposed, and had a circumference of 8 inches. Before the egg
had a shell and you couldn t see through it but once the vinegar acted as an acetic acid it broke
down the shell and left a yellow membrane that felt like rubber this is an example of diffusion. I
then placed the egg in another container and put corn syrup over the egg for 24 hours. The egg
had shriveled and shrunk, the water had left the egg and went into the syrup and that is what
caused the egg to shrink. The corn syrup is essentially pure sugar with very little water so the
osmotic pressure is very low. I then placed the shriveled egg in water and waited for another 24
hours. After observation the egg had no

Impact Of The Textile Industry On The Environment
Industries Can Change
In a world full of competitive markets, companies take many risks in order to make the most profit.
Businesses strive to make money off of satisfying customer demands. In recent years, a heightened
awareness for the environment has caused customers to demand more natural products. Knowing
how a product is made can help the consumer make informed purchases. Conscious consumerism
can help further reduce the human impact on the environment. In response to this demand,
companies have increased their effort in the manufacturing sector to go green by producing items
more sustainably. However, the task of differentiating the companies who are actually going green
and those who aren t, is difficult. Those companies who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After fertilizer application, the fertilizer can runoff into bodies of water and degrade aquatic
ecosystems. However, alternative methods have been implemented which impose a lower
impact while still producing the same end product. Growing the raw materials organically
reduces the amount of energy expounded to grow the raw materials because fertilizer is not used
to grow the crops. In fact Dr. David Pimental provides more insight as to extent of reduction of
energy used in organic farming [O]rganic farming systems used just 63% of the energy required
by conventional farming systems, (qtd from Anne). The main reason the difference in energy use
is so high is due to the fact most of the energy in conventional farming coming from producing the
fertilizer. Since organic farming does not require fertilizer the process uses less energy in order to
do so. The Global Organic TextileStandard, or GOTS, is the most prominent aspect of the change
ongoing within the industry. Their primary goal is to ensure that there are globally accepted
requirement to ensure that the textile is actually organically made. That means the whole process
from start to finish is accomplished through environmentally and socially responsible means.
Starting with cultivation, the only way a textile manufacturing company can be considered for
GOTS approval is to have the textile products made with 70% of organic fibers (Global Organic
Textile International Working Group). Organic fibers mean

Difference Between Xp And Scrum
Abstract : This paper is concerned with providing an enhanced Scrum framework that combines
some practices of eXtreme Programming (XP) approach in Scrum framework to produce quality
software in time. XP and Scrum are two agile software development methods. While Scrum is
focused on project management, XP is focused on Software development; nevertheless, they both
can be used to participate in the development of any software project independently or together.
This paper presents the main concepts, features, phases, artifacts, and roles of Scrum as well as a
brief introduction to XP and its practices. In this paper, the researcher presents how to combine
some XP practices into Scrum activities. The researcher exploits the features and best practices of
the two methods to propose an enhanced Scrum framework that include an elaborated set of steps
and guidelines for achieving each Scrum activity. Therefore, the enhanced Scrum framework is

Globalized Islam By Olivier Roy
In Olivier Roy s book, Globalized Islam, he writes about propaganda targets individuals, not groups
as the strategy used Islamists, when elaborating a political program, targets groups, and more
precisely social groups (impoverished neo urbanites, students from the lower and middle classes,
and so on). Roy continues on to share their reasoning for the method of targeting individuals, not
groups [author s italicization]. This remains congruent with their strategy of going to the polls; an
electorate is always a collective and anonymous entity. Roy goes on to state why the new preachers
use another method. But the new preachers target individuals, for the simple reason that they do
not have a global political and social project, except implementation of sharia. In contrast he goes
on to explain how the Taliban s agenda differs. Even the Taliban, who were ruling a real country,
never cared about implementing any economic or social program, but were exclusively concerned
with sharia. Consequently, individual Muslims that relocate from their own culture to migrate to
the western world still remain well rooted in their religion despite the fact that no special
accommodations are made for their religion. No allowances are made for Muslims to abide
naturally and easily by the tenets of their religion. Hence the implementation of binding religious
obligations rests on the good goodwill of the believer, not on any external cultural pressure or a
state s legal

Ontario Student Assistance Program Essay
Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) OSAP, a program designed to benefit Ontario
residents in need; they can apply to receive a Canada Ontario integrated student loan through the
Ontario Student Assistance Program or OSAP. The program was started back in the 1990 s, by the
Ontario government to enable those with lower incomes to receive loans, grants and scholarships
which allows them to have the ability to pay for their post secondary education.
To completely understand the relationship between OSAP and Social Welfare, we must first
examine what social welfare system is. A social welfare system is a program designed to
provide assistance to the needy individuals and families. There are numerous types and amounts
of welfare that are accessible to these individuals and families that vary depending on what
country, state or region you reside in. How do the two topics, OSAP and Social welfare relate?
Social welfare is a program that provides assistance to the needy; OSAP is that program to which
assistance is provided. The difference between the two is that money that comes from OSAP can
only be used post secondary school requirements like tuition fees, books and transportation
allowance, social welfare covers other living essentials like food and a place to live.
The targeted users for this program would be those entering into their post secondary education.
The Ontario Student Assistance Program is open to all Ontario residents; the program was designed

Comparison Of Citizen Kane And The Maltese Falcon
Two of the first film noir pieces, The Maltese Falcon and Citizen Kane, share many structural and
stylistic similarities. Their biggest similarities are use of the plant and payoff technique, and
sending characters on meaningless quests. The Maltese Falcon opens with a description of a
golden falcon statue, given as a gift from the people of Malta for their independence, lost en route.
After these opening statements, the film jumps to a detective, Sam Spade, tasked with finding
someone by Brigid O Shaunessy, ignoring the falcon completely. Spade is unaware of the falcon
until Brigid s former partner, Joel Cairo, arrives and offers to pay Spade for it, so he starts
searching. Though Spade searches endlessly, the statue s location is a mystery... Show more content

The film s main character is led through a series of challenges or traps, mostly irrelevant, forcing
the character to waste time chasing down false leads. The entire quest is ultimately a joke,
because the object sought is never acquired, and the protagonist has been sent on a wild goose
chase. The falcon in Spade s apartment was discovered to be a fake. Thompson never found
rosebud, though the audience discovers rosebud is Kane s boyhood sled, before it burns to ash.
Ultimately, neither character discovers what he sought, making the endeavor of searching for it

Why Is Socrates Foolish
Is the great civil rights activist a fool for being persistent in what they believe? They would
argue that you are foolish in your decision to not be persistent. So who would we be to declare
Socrates a fool? Before you can truly make a solid decision on whether or not you believe Socrates
is foolish, you must have a brief understanding of Socratesmindset. Socrates is put in a sticky
position where he must decide if he will be true to himself or to his passion. Socrates belief in
justice is firm and directly correlates to his decision to stay in Athens and be persecuted.
Socrates character is a reminder of maybe the greatest civil rights activist ever. Rather than
viewing Socrates as foolish, I believe he is a hero in his own right. After a solid understanding of
what Socrates was trying to accomplish even in his willingness to accept his crueler punishment,
you will see that Socrates is far from foolish. Socrates is actually really wise, and may have just
been the wisest of his time.
The question could easily be, are you a coward for not wanting to accept your fate? The most
effective way to evaluate this question is if you equate this situation to a more modern and up to
date situation in your own life. People do not often give their true opinion on things until the

This may surprise you, but they share quite a few similarities. They both knew that they were
committing what would be considered unjust acts to man. They both had options to evade the
punishments. They were both willing to sacrifice themselves for the betterment of others. This
comparison may strike many as over the top, but the point can surely be proven with their
similarities. There is a principle of selflessness that is apparent in both figures, by them both having
knowledge that they could get in trouble, and continuing to do what they felt to be the right

Bear, Lion s Digestive System
A similarity that is present between the bear, lion, and koalas digestive system is that they all have
small intestines. In all of the animals digestive system they have small intestine which absorbs all
the nutrients and minerals from the food that they have eaten. Small intestine, or small bowel, is a
hollow tube about 20 feet long that runs from the stomachto the beginning of the large intestine.
The small intestinebreaks down food from the stomach and absorbs much of the nutrients from the
food.
The duodenum is the first part of the small intestine. The main role of the duodenum is to complete
the first phase of digestion. In this section of the intestine, food from the stomach is mixed with
enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the gallbladder. The enzymes and bile help break down
food.
The jejunum is the second part of the small intestine. After food is broken down in the duodenum, it
moves to the jejunum, where the inside walls absorb the food s nutrients. The inside walls of the
jejunum have many circular folds, which make its surface area large enough to absorb all of the
nutrients that the body needs.
The ileum is the third part of the small intestine. It absorbs bile acids, which are returned to the
liver to be made into more bile, then stored in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oesophagus is a muscular tube, about 25cm long, with a sphincter (valve) at each end. Its
function is to transport food and fluid, after being swallowed, from the mouth to the stomach. No

and swallowed is called a bolus. This is propelled from the pharynx (throat) into the oesophagus, and
is swept towards the stomach in peristaltic waves. These muscular contractions are involuntary, and
cannot normally be felt. When food is not passing through, the oesophagus is folded in, or

Hegemony, Resistance, Revolt Essay
The conquest of Latin America was a fairly quick process in which the theme of hegemony was
vastly prominent. The cultures of colonialism and competitive nature to obtain wealth through
exploitation were the main driving force of hegemony. It is natural to exploit the people of lower
class or societal rank for one s own advantage, and that is what happened. As the pressure of power
and control became overbearing toward the people, resistance was sure to follow.
Looking at today s society, there is a lot of exploitation and hegemony among certain groups. Major
global conglomerates exploit the people of many poorer countries for cheap labor. To the people
overseas, they are receiving wages that are fairly high for their standards. ... Show more content on

They were just born into the legacy of either carrying out an elite family business or working under
poor conditions to buy their own freedom. Scott stresses the lack of consensus in social situations
of domination. The dominated know they are dominated, they know by whom and how far from
consenting to that dominion, they initiate all sorts of subtle ways of living with, talking about,
resisting, undermining, and confronting the unequal and power laden worlds in which they live.
(Roseberry 357) Everyone lived their life and had to live with the grim situations. There was
nothing they could do but live in their situation, or revolt.
Looking at the hegemony hierarchy of Latin America, the top would be the king or leader of a
Spain. Then it would be the colonizers or Europeans residing in Latin America. Next in the
hierarchy would be the indigenous people, and then lastly would be the slaves. By looking at the
hierarchy, there is one thing that is certain. As long as there is hegemony within the relationship of
two groups, revolt or opposition is inevitable.
Fighting between the two groups was a brutal massacre. Technological advancement allowed the
colonizers to win most of their battles. Through this huge advantage, they displayed their
hegemonic presence. Fray Bernardino de Sahagun explains the war and pillaging against the

Stifled Women in The Yellow Wallpaper, Rappaccini s Daughter, and Beloved
A connection can be drawn among the stories listed above regarding women who live as
prisoners. Beatrice, of Rappaccini s Daughter, is confined to a garden because of her father s love
of science, and she becomes the pawn to several men s egos. The woman of The Yellow
Wallpaper is trapped by her own family s idea of how she should conduct herself, because her
mood and habit of writing are not normal to them. Sethe, of Beloved, carries the burden of her
past and also the past of all slaves. She is unwelcome in her community and a prisoner in her own
home, where she is forced to confront these memories of slavery. All three of these women are

Each man only saw what he wanted to see regarding Beatrice, and for Giovanni, it was most
complex. Her father probably had good intentions when he caused his daughter to be poisonous.
He did it as a means of protection, but this backfired, because the tendency of others to
misunderstand Beatrice s complex makeup led them to unintentionally kill her. Each of the
three men in Rappaccinni s Daughter wanted to mold Beatrice into something and each had his
own idea of her identity, yet none of them looked at her subjectively. This is pointed out by
Luedtke on page 188. When he (Giovanni) was unable to bring Beatrice rigidly and
systematically within the realm of his own experience, and unwilling to risk a closer knowledge,
Giovanni left the poison damsel to die in her own pleasure place. It is interesting to note Luedtke
s use of the words pleasure place . This suggests that the poisonous garden was not the real
problem or prison for Beatrice. An interesting point is revealed by Luedtke as he states, The author
makes a late attempt to intertwine her poison and her purity, but the demonic and the angelic
continue to occupy their separate spheres, the former of the body, the latter of the soul. As
Baglioni s antidote takes effect, eradicating the poison from Beatrice s system, her physical life is
consumed. The soul might be innocent but it has no resting place. (181) If Beatrice s soul had no

Gender and Mathematics Essay
Mathematics is acknowledged as a hard subject. People who are good at it are considered to
belong to a sort of elite. Usually to be accepted in this elite you have to fulfill some requirements
and most of them are related with a specific gender. Math is a God s gift for boys. This has been
the perception of society for a long time. The majority thinks that the nature of mathematics goes
along mostly with masculine attributes, thus, males are more focused on it. Therefore, according to
these people boys by default get to be better in math, with girls being excluded from any kind of

The supporters of this perspective follow that the plain reason behind this involvement is that
men are generally better in this field. Moreover, according to a research conducted by
Kyriakides and Antoniou boys are more predisposed to fulfill harder math related tasks better
than girls (1). This proves the idea that boys achievements in math are higher than those of girls.
Secondly, there are people who belong to the other extreme that affirm that girls outperform
boys in the science of numbers. Several researches were conducted to evaluate the performance
of both genders based on their grades in high school. The statistical results of a research in Wales
show that 50% of boys and 51% of girls achieved grades A* C in mathematics (Cann 1). The
outcome of data displayed that girls abilities in this relevant field exceed those of boys. However,
girls choose not to attend these mathematics related majors. Rather they decide to concentrate in
the biochemical sciences in order to be a part of the difference in the world by generating change
(Weinstock par. 1). Other advocates of this approach go far beyond explaining that there are more
reasons why girls choose not to devote their selves to mathematics. The participation in this
particular field is affected by numerous factors such as anxiety, self confidence and enjoyment.
Females tend to have negative emotions regarding these factors and math in general. The reason

The Importance Of Augustus, The First Emperor Of The Roman...
Throughout the Roman Empire, many new perceptions and strong leaders began to rise to overall
power. These new perceptions and leaders helped build the structure of the history of the world. One
of these resilient leaders was Augustus, who was considered to be the first emperor of the historical
Roman Empire. During his reign as the first emperor, Augustus established many new and fulfilling
virtues. Some of these virtues included the idea of taxation being more reasonable for citizens. He
also implemented the creation of roads and the ultimate revamping of the Roman city. In order to
document his lifetime and role as a Roman leader, Augustus decided to scribe many of his
experienced achievements, successes, and victories. More importantly, he used this subjective
inscription to successfully display his leadership and consultant persona during his reign.
Throughout the inscription of the Res Gestae, Augustus expresses and legitimates his diplomatic
authority by describing his many political successes, social achievements, and military victories to
seek the approval of citizens throughout his reign during the Roman Empire.
During his admired reign, Augustus claimed to have proficiency in many political successes that
ultimately expresses and legitimates his authority. Along with exiling the murderers of his father,
he describes how he undertook many civil and foreign wars by land and sea throughout the world
(RG, 1). This claim addresses how Augustus made many

The Theme Of Happiness In The Secret Garden By Frances...
Introduction For this assignment, I chose to do a listing of quotes which I feel represent the
theme of Happiness in The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Happiness is expressed
in a number of ways, many of which the characters do not know about. I chose to focus on this
theme because I felt it was the most prominent and important in the story, and that the characters
go through a great deal of development while experiencing it. Chapter One: There is No One

People who grow up as Mary did often will not see the joys in the little things, but rather a
disturbance and a waste of time. Here he is, chuckled the old man, and then he spoke to the bird
as if he here speaking to a child. Throughout the book, the Robin makes appearances that spark
Mary s childlike wonder and imagination. She sees the bird and thinks that this creature may be
the first she has ever liked, and therefore wants to know more about it. Mary feels something
when she sees him, the same thing she feels when she is out on the moor playing. Happiness is
beginning to become less of a dream and more of a reality, and this bird is only the beginning.
This was plain speaking, and Mary Lennox had never heard the truth about herself in her life.

years as a boot merchant. In 1892, he decided to take advantage of incorporated status, and convert
his business into Limited Liability Company. To do this he set up a
Limited Company, which he called Salomon Co. Ltd, and made himself and members of his family
shareholders in the business, with himself as the majority shareholder and Managing Director, thus
retaining control of the company.
As a separate legal entity, Mr. Salomon then sold his merchant leather business to Salomon Co Ltd
for ВЈ39,000, which in 1892 was far in excess of its real value. Mr. Salomon took payment from
the company in the form of ВЈ10,000 in cash, ВЈ1in 10,000 shares and the remaining ВЈ9,000 he
left in the business as a loan to the company, which he secured against assets of the business.
Within months the company ran into trouble, and within a year went into liquidation. Even though
it would mean suppliers and employees who were owed money would go unpaid, Mr. Salomon
claimed his secured loan back from the company.
When the case went to court, even though it was plain to see that Mr.
Salomon was the business in reality, in the eyes of the law he was a shareholder and private
individual, who had leant this company in

How To Write A Phosphorus Report
Phosphorus Report
By Hayden Michaels
Introduction.
Phosphorus is an element on the periodic table that we use in many different ways without even
noticing; we even have Phosphorus in our bodies! Phosphorus is essential to the life of all living
creatures including ourselves. There are many types of Phosphorus including red, white, violet or
(black phosphorus). We also use Phosphorus in our daily lives without noticing, even though it
reacts with substances. It also plays a big biological role both positive and can be negative. It has
structure as all atoms do and needs to go through a cycle to be used. It has unique physical and
chemical properties and many uses.

Phosphorus is used quite often, we use it in many useful ways fo r example, white Phosphorus
is used in flares, it is also used in incendiary devices. Red Phosphorus is used in the material
struck on the side of the matchbox to light safety matches. Although the largest use of
Phosphorus is in fertilizers, this can be a problem that will be addressed in another passage.
Phosphorus is also important in the production of steel. Another useful way we use Phosphorus
is in detergents which can also be a problem and are started to be phased out in some countries.
Phosphorus is also used in the production of particular glass and fine chinaware. Another use that
we take for granted is we use Phosphorus in rat poisons. The last thing it is used for is in smoke
screens (a cloud of smoke used to conceal military options).
Biological Role.
Phosphorus is essential to all living things, including ourselves as it is responsible for producing
sugar phosphates which is in DNA and RNA. It is responsible for the energy transfer in cells. Us
as humans take in approximately 1 gram per day without even noticing, our body also stores 750
grams of Phosphorus as our bones are mostly made out of calcium phosphate. Overuse of
phosphates in fertilizers and detergents can become a problem.

Ways Of Seeing
What is History but a Fable Agreed Upon Those who control what is known about the past can
change the way a society thinks and behaves. They have the ability to manipulate what actually
happened in the past so that they exploit it for personal, political and even cultural purposes.
Although most people seem to forget, history is usually always written by the winners. When
two cultures clash, the loser is obliterated and the winner writes the history books; books which
glorify their own cause and disparage the conquered foe. As napoleon said, what is history but a
fable agreed upon . The Novel The Ways of Seeing by John Berger and the short films The
Dutchman and The slave by Leroi Jones show how the creators and owners of art, literature... Show

The way we see and perceive this art is predetermined by a variety of different factor ranging
from cultural background to socioeconomic status. A people or a class which is cut off from its
own past is far less free to choose and to act as a people or class than one that has been able to
situate itself in history. This is why and this is the only reason why the entire art of the past has
now become a political issue (J. Berger pg. 33) He argues that if a group of people are robbed of
being able to create their own culturally relative and socially correct standards for art, then they
are being oppressed from engaging as political equals. People use art to understand their place
within world history and create social and political meaning for themselves or their culture. Art
gives you the power to control how people perceive the past, the present and possibly even the
future. Although now the ability to control what art people see isn t as regulated as it once was,
but prior to the invention of the camera and the internet, art was controlled by the minority of the
elite and wealthy. the art of the past is being mystified because a privileged minority is striving to
invent a history which can retrospectively justify the role of the ruling classes and such a
justification can no longer make sense in modern terms (J. Berger, Pg.157). The upper class
mystifies the general population to stay in control; without the ability to see things through our own
eyes, people are being deprived of their right to understanding themselves and placing themselves in
a role of society. Mystification contributes a negative influence on our society. Mystifying of art

Compare and Contrast the Ways in Which the Theme of...
Compare and contrast the ways in which the theme of isolation is presented and explored by
Sebastian Faulks and T.S Eliot in Engleby and Selected Poems . Throughout both Engleby and
Selected Poems there is a prevailing sense of apprehension of the tenuousness of human existence
which is evident in the protagonists confining inability to communicate with the world around
them, as seen in Prufrock s agonised call, so how should I presume? . The Wasteland was written by
Eliot to address the fragmentation and alienation characteristic of [contemporary] culture ,

This suggests his isolation yet the reader cannot be certain whether this is his own disinterest in
involving himself in social life, or whether it had been due to his childhood and conditioning by
others I tried to join in the communal joke once. But only once. The narrative style makes it
difficult to find the reason why Engleby only attempted to join in the joke once . This theme of
isolation is continued throughout the novel with his cowboy tie at the dinner with Stellings, in
contrast to his music obsession: Off the top of my head, I can think of at least ten orchestral
tunes. Prufrock finds himself in a similar situation, questioning Do I dare/ Disturb the universe?
the alliteration emphasising his feeling of isolation and uncertainty on what action he should
take. It is suggested that Engleby has a tremendous fear of reincarnation which suggests that to
some extent he does see death as a form of escape . This idea has some merit due to his belief
that the brief stint in humanity is pointless , and is almost as terrified of the idea of living
forever as he is of dying young. This is parallel to Sybil in The Burial of the Dead : I will show
you fear in a handful of dust , Eliot implying that eternal life is not something to be longed for but
to be apprehensive and fearful of due to the isolation and loneliness which would come with
outliving relatives and friends. Following the First World War, it is possible

Heroin, methamphetamine, and opioids have been around for centuries and the use of these drugs

My Writing Skills By Unlocking My Intellectual Mind
When I first enter this classroom, ENG 3305, I consider myself a simple communications writer. I
would simply read or study a situation, then write about it by stating the facts, narrating an event or
idea, or simply give instructions on a task to do. I took this course with the notion of improving my
writingskills by unlocking my intellectual mind and become more critical and analytical of the
information I was to write about. My expectations for my writing skills was to become more

Again, I missed to identify the things that didn t made sense in the essay. For example, when the
narrator is talking about the shoes she bought. She didn t need them, but she bought them
anyways, it proved that she was not someone to feel bad for. She was not hurting for money, yet
she gave the impression that she did. In the party where she was catering, she broke the crystal
not because she was careless, moreover, she was upset because of the guests in a table talking;
in her mind, she believed she was smarter and better than them. The other point I fail to notice,
was when she talked about her mom, the mom was someone who was very critical about black
actors. She believed black actors gave a bad impression of blacks because they were giving
condescending role, hence she said blacks don t belong in movies. However, she was a light
skin woman pretending to be a French maid, because her employer wanted that from her. She
was lying about everything, she believed. The essay reflects the problems with dreams. They
were in Hollywood because they liked the movies, the movies made them dream and by living
there, they were closer to their dreams, but when dreams chattered we have nothing, dreams are
the problem and the narrator finally sees that in the end, hence I missed this point when I wrote
my response. In the third essay, Under the Influence , I did identify the dad s drinking problems. I

There Will Come Soft Rain Technology Essay
In today s growing society, technology has brought many reforms to the way we operate on a

us both socially and in the workplace. However, there is a form of duality that comes with these
developments; Despite the seemingly positive outcomes associated with the benefits of technology,
there is also a lack of responsibilityon our part that results. Hence, over time it has been

One of the many magnificent features of the house is the automated kitchen. This kitchen pampered
the family by preparing each meal, washing the dishes, and serving them all at the dinner table,
all responsibilities you would expect of a typical household. Early in the text, Bradbury
comprehensively describes the kitchen s seemingly perfect nature, In the kitchen the breakfast
stove gave a hissing sigh and ejected from its warm interior eight pieces of perfectly browned
toast, eggs sunnyside up, sixteen slices of bacon, two coffees, and two cold glasses of milk
(There Will Come Soft Rains 1). The precision and accuracy of the breakfast prepared was
impeccable: the milk cold, eggs and toast prepared to perfection, and exactly sixteen slices of

when their effort could easily be replaced? Instead of relying on themselves, one would instead
choose to rely on this automated kitchen. The more someone ceases to rely on themselves, the less
responsible they ultimately become. Therefore, Bradbury s brief, yet powerful, use of imagery
supports the idea that it in such a technologically advanced environment, taking on basic
responsibilities is

Essay -1776 by David McCullough
1776 by David McCullough
Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth. This quote in a letter to James
Madison, from George Washington, on March 2nd, 1788, explains that once the push for liberty
comes through and change is made, it is like the snowball effect. At this point of the war, there were
constant losses for the Continental Army they were lacking faith and hope for their liberty. The
soldier s enlistments were also very near to their end and time was going by fast; many were
prepared to leave and not signing up again. Overall, the Continental Army was headed towards
failure. They needed something to give them a push in the right direction. The battle that raised

That meant leaving as soon as their enlistments were finished and leaving Washington with fewer
troops. Washington felt that he needed to have another battle while he still had many men and
before the British troops retired for the season of winter until spring (McCullough 267). Since
the battle happened towards the end of their session, the results of the battle highly affected the
soldier s decision to stay or leave. If it wasn t for Trenton, there would never have been a reason
to stay in the army and that would have affected the war in a negative way for the colonies. Our
only dependence now is upon the speedy enlistments of the army. If this fails, the game is pretty
near up, (McCullough 269). This quote by Lund Washington explains that the colonies needed as
many soldiers and troops as possible to make their chances of succeeding better. Without the amount
of troops that decided to stay because of the Battle of Trenton, Washington s troops would have
been significantly smaller and would have caused losses in battles. George Washingtons tactics and
skills when it came to the Continental army and war were very helpful in the many battles that he
led. In Trenton, Washington planned a sneak attack on the British, in which they had to cross the
Delaware River on. Because of Washington s quick thinking and great army skills allowed the
Continental Army to succeed in surrounding all the Hessians in Trenton in an orchard, leaving them

Causes Of The Monarch Butterfly
So are we just going to ignore the fact that Monarch Butterflies are in trouble? We re just going to
ignore the fact that we could easily help, but we choose not to?The monarch butterfly is an insect
that relies their life on milkweed plants and is currently facing the problem of milkweed declining,
but it can be solved by planting milkweeds causing the butterflypopulation to increase rapidly.
The Monarch Butterfly is a milkweed butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It s the most common
butterfly in North America , and is considered an iconic pollinator species .(Conserving Monarch
butterflies And their habitats). The Monarch Butterflies have many nicknames such as, milkweed,
common tiger, wanderer and black veined brown (Danaus).
The Monarch Butterfly s life cycle has four stages, it begins with the egg, the caterpillar, the pupa,
and then it emerges into an Adult butterfly. The female adult monarch butterfly mates with a male
butterfly, and later lays its eggs specifically on a milkweed plant. After the eggs hatch, they turn into
larva. The larva then spins a silky mat which turns into a chrysalis. Finally, the larva merges into an
adult monarch butterfly.
The monarch butterflies differ in migration than the any other species that migrate as well. The
reason why the monarchs are different than other species is that they later come back to their
previous winter location while other species stay.Monarch Butterflies migrate over 300,000 miles,
for they can not stand the harsh cold temperatures. Every fall, they come from northern United
States of America and migrate to southern United States of America, and at times they migrate all
the way down to Mexico. Since monarch butterflies have a complicated life cycle (Migration)
monarchs that have emerged in the winter do not yet reproduce until they re in the summer or
spring season. On the other hand, monarch butterflies that are emerged in the summer or springtime
reproduce rapidly. In addition, it s important for the monarchs to know when they have to migrate to
the south and back to the winter.
Sadly, the monarch butterflies are drastically decreasing due to the fact that the plant they need to
survive, the milkweed plant, is slowly but surely diminishing.

This resulted in the recorded flight time being less than the true flight time value. The distance the

Since the projectile launcher was raised above a table top, school trays were used to raise the

and make it uni level. There may have been small differences in the height of the launch site and

units of blood, when she arrived at the emergency room they found she had a broken pelvis in
four different places, a mangled left leg, twelve broken ribs, a fractured spine, and a broken right
foot. Rushing her to surgery to stabilize her, they nicked an artery in her right leg. Through the four
or more hour long surgery, they stabilized her, at the cost of her mangled left leg. When getting
settled into the ICU the next morning around four am, her family finally had the opportunity to see
her and explain the devastating news. while waiting to see her about every terrifying thought went

What Makes A Good Leader
What qualities make a good leader? You can ask a hundred different people, and you will get a
hundred different answers. A good leader is someone who accomplishes the mission, has the
respect of their subordinates, and makes the difficult decisions when needed. For me, I believe that
a great leader needs to have a variety of qualities, but most importantly a sense of fairness, hard
work/care, and common consideration for others. Different experiences throughout my life and
time at West Point have lead me to believe that these three tenants are what are most needed for a
great leader. In terms of a leader s moral character, common consideration has the greatest influence
on the success of a leader, because without common consideration, a... Show more content on

There are numerous occasions at West Point where I have seen individuals dole out unequal shares
of duties or rewards based on their personal feelings towards the recipients. Fairness and
impartiality are fundamental traits in good officers. If a leader singles out an individual for either
unfair rewards or punishments, it signals to the unit that there are other necessary factors needed
other than hard work to get ahead, such as cozying up to the platoon leader to get the good
assignments. Soldiers need to know that assignments or tasks they are assigned are either given
through merit, or are given equally to all soldiers in the unit. Unfair treatment is a quick way for
soldiers to drift away from the task at hand and instead focus on getting into the good graces of the
leader, leaving the unit less cohesive and the mission unaccomplished. I have witness firsthand here
at West Point many unfair decisions that were made solely out of how much someone liked or
hated the person they were dealing with. One such example that comes to mind is when one cadet
was given preferential treatment and allowed to get off morning workouts, while other cadets had
to continue. The physical development staff of my company forces any cadet with an APFT score
of less than 260 to show up to morning workouts on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week.
These cadets are given the opportunity to stop attending workouts by scoring above a 270 on a
diagnostic APFT conducted once a month.

Student Objectives
1. How are information systems transforming business and what is their relationship to
globalization? 2. Why are information systems so essential for running and managing a business
today? 3. What exactly is an information system? How does it work? What are its people,
organization, and technology components? 4. How will a four step method for business problem
solving help you solve information system relations problems? 5. How will information systems
affect business careers and what information systems skills and knowledge are essential?
Chapter Outline

How Information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The opening case, NBA Teams Make a Slam dunk with Information Technology, shows students that
even the professional sports industry has embraced technology as a way to enhance their employees
performance and increase their competitive advantage. Students will start to become familiar with
the idea that many different kinds of businesses have had to change the way they operate, even the
National Basketball Association (NBA). Their new emphasis is on using the Internet and
information technology to mine statistical data and turn it into useful information. The challenges
facing the NBA show why information systems are so essential today. The NBA is a business as
well as a sport, and it needs to help its member teams stay in business and increase their revenues.
Section 1.1, The Role of Information Systems in Business Today , gives students a feel for the
importance of information systems in business today and how they have transformed businesses on
the world stage. A good discussion of the six important business objectives outlined in this section
allows the instructor and students to openly discuss why businesses have become so dependent on
information systems today and the importance of these systems for the survival of a firm. Stress to
students that information systems are not a luxury. In most businesses they are the core to survival.
This would be a good time to ask students to discuss how their own schools are using

How Does the Surface Area to Volume Ratio Affect Heat Loss...
Biology Lab Report
BY:
Michael Ryan Pranata 11C |
Background: As heat is a form of thermal energy, they tend to have the behavior of reaching a
thermal equilibrium. This means that when two bodies of different temperatures come in contact
with each other, the hotter ones will transfer heat particles to the body with a colder temperature,
with an aim to reach this thermal equilibrium , whatever the temperature may be. The larger the
surface area, means there can be more paths from the sides of the body that are capable of
releasing this heat particles, and reaching thermal equilibrium faster. This is what happens when a
hotter body is subjected to a colder one.
Research Question:
How does the surface area to volume ratio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We observe the temperature of the four different flasks starting from the equal initial
temperatures, every ten seconds for one samples all the way to three minutes. From the data
observed, the average rate of heat loss can be derived. This is done by taking the initial and final
temperature and dividing them by the number of seconds (18x as the total number of seconds is
180 and interval of 10 secs).
Controlled: Initial temperature, type of insulation, type of flasks, room temperature, time.
1. We ve decided 77вЃ°C as our initial temperature for every trial. We ve kept the initial
temperature equal for each trial as this would give us fair and reliable results. If the initial
temperatures were kept different, therefore the data provided will be somewhat unreliable. This is
also because as the temperatures are higher, the rate of heat loss would be faster, as compared to
when the initial temperatures are lower. This would again support the unreliability of the data we
would observe.
2. The type of insulation that we ve chosen is the cotton, approximately with the same thickness
for each flask. They will be changed for every trial, because for each trial, as the heat escapes from
the sides of the flask in the form of water vapor, it comes in contact with the cotton, thus making it
moist, and changes the capacity of the cotton to insulate. We have decided to

Cruciferous vegetables
Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage and Brussels sprouts are full of valuable nutrients.
At the top of the list is a compound called sulforaphane, an enzyme in the body that detoxifies
carcinogens before they damage cells. It may help to lower your risk of getting cancer. Cruciferous
vegetables have the ability to stop the growth of cancer cells in the breast, uterine lining
(endometrium), lung, colon, liver and cervix, and they are particularly effective in preventing

You may have heard about superfoods. You may even know superfoods can be good for you.
But do you know why?
Superfoods provide a host of benefits to help us live longer, healthier lives. They are high in
phytonutrients, chemicals that occur naturally in food. They protect against cancer, diabetes, heart
disease and hypertension and may also boost your immune function and perhaps lower your risk for
infection.
Since they are available at local supermarkets, easy to grow in a garden, and found at many
restaurants, superfoods can easily be added to your daily diet.
Here are 10 superfoods that offer a good start to a balanced diet for women:
Green leafy vegetables
These are one of nature s best sources of folate
a B vitamin that prevents birth defects, heart disease, dementia and colon cancer (the third most
common cause of cancer in women). Folate also prevents vision loss and protects skin and bones.
Another compound, called lutein, which is found in green leafy vegetables, helps prevent macular
degeneration, a leading cause of age related vision loss. Lutein also can help prevent cataracts and
it helps protect your skin from the damaging effects of sun exposure. It appears lutein protects the
fats in the top layer of skin, preventing dehydration, roughness and possibly even wrinkles. Green
leafy vegetables also are an excellent source of vitamin K, a nutrient essential for bone
development. Dairy products
Calcium is

  • 3. The United States And The Industrial Revolution In the past 100 years, the world has shifted enormously. Once, a world that only communicated when one nation was trying to take control of another, is now connected more than ever. This transformation began with the Industrial Revolution in a period from around 1760 to 1840. Thinking back to that time, we can easily think of noticeable differences between how the world was and how it is today. The United States was a small, developing country, still trying to overcome the effects of a costly revolution. Across the ocean, once the United States major rival, Great Britain, was still the greatest power in the world. And around the world, China and Japan were nowhere near the economic leaders they are today. However, the biggest changes weren t the countries with the greatest power and size. With advances in technology in the Industrial Revolution, the world began to revolutionize. The technologies that the world has come to familiarize ourselves with today, such as the smartphone, weren t even blueprints yet. However, a few of the technological advances that developed from that era helped mold the world into what it is like today. Brink Lindsey states in the article, The Decline and Fall of the First Global Economy that, The Industrial Revolution s burst of technological creativity, thus demolished the natural barriers to trade posed by geography and created entirely new possibilities for beneficial international exchange. For example, countries in the North Atlantic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Emotional Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s A Clean,... In his short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place, Ernest Hemingway, uses his usual style of elegant, yet unembellished, prose to depict one late night interaction between an old man, a young waiter, and an older waiter. The story takes place at a cafГ© in Madrid, during the era following the Lost Generation and is apparent, given the contrasting perspectives of the characters. The part of the story where the young waiter refills the old man s brandy with an agitated demeanor and the old man desires nothing more than to drink continuously, as he does on a nightly basis, illuminates the broader concerns of the of the story. This passage, although centered around the story s supporting characters, unveils the idea of nothingness before the reader s introduction to the word nada. Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place, is a revelation to the elaborate complexity of emotional fulfillment versus the existential crisis of spiritual and emotional emptiness, between the young and the old, throughout this particular generational gap. Throughout the passage, we see the young waiter go through a wide range of emotions, beginning with him feeling irritated, which becomes perceivable after his initial statement: a terse What do you want? directed at the old man (153). He then becomes condescending, telling the old man that he will be drunk if he continues drinking, knowing that he cannot hear him and that getting drunk is, evidently, the old man s intentions (154). Next, he tells ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Rubber Egg Lab Essay examples 1.Discuss the structure of the plasma membrane and explain the process of active and passive transport through the membrane. 2. Explain your observations in detail in terms of concentration gradient, diffusion, osmosis, osmotic pressure, passive transport, and active transport. Explain what happened to the blood cells at the various levels of concentration. Be sure to refer to the solutions as being hypotonic, hypertonic and isotonic. The plasma membranes are made up of proteins that form pores and channels, cholesterol to provide membrane stability and carbohydrate molecules for cell recognition. The most abundant component found in the plasma membrane is the phospholipid, which is bilayer. The plasma membrane is amphipathic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of active transport would be pushing a stroller up a hill. Passive transport is diffusion across a membrane requiring only random motion of molecules with no energy expanded by the cell. Another example of passive transport would be rolling a ball down a hill. In the rubber egg lab also known as the osmosis lab, I first measured the circumference of the egg which was 6 inches. The egg had no cracks and was hard. I placed the egg in the vinegar and within seconds the egg started to bubble. These bubbles were carbon dioxide. After 72 hours the shell of the egg had started to dissolve or flake. This would be considered passive transport as the vinegar diffused across the egg shell without any force. Seventy two hours into the experiment the membrane was exposed, and had a circumference of 8 inches. Before the egg had a shell and you couldn t see through it but once the vinegar acted as an acetic acid it broke down the shell and left a yellow membrane that felt like rubber this is an example of diffusion. I then placed the egg in another container and put corn syrup over the egg for 24 hours. The egg had shriveled and shrunk, the water had left the egg and went into the syrup and that is what caused the egg to shrink. The corn syrup is essentially pure sugar with very little water so the osmotic pressure is very low. I then placed the shriveled egg in water and waited for another 24 hours. After observation the egg had no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Businesses strive to make money off of satisfying customer demands. In recent years, a heightened awareness for the environment has caused customers to demand more natural products. Knowing how a product is made can help the consumer make informed purchases. Conscious consumerism can help further reduce the human impact on the environment. In response to this demand, companies have increased their effort in the manufacturing sector to go green by producing items more sustainably. However, the task of differentiating the companies who are actually going green and those who aren t, is difficult. Those companies who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After fertilizer application, the fertilizer can runoff into bodies of water and degrade aquatic ecosystems. However, alternative methods have been implemented which impose a lower impact while still producing the same end product. Growing the raw materials organically reduces the amount of energy expounded to grow the raw materials because fertilizer is not used to grow the crops. In fact Dr. David Pimental provides more insight as to extent of reduction of energy used in organic farming [O]rganic farming systems used just 63% of the energy required by conventional farming systems, (qtd from Anne). The main reason the difference in energy use is so high is due to the fact most of the energy in conventional farming coming from producing the fertilizer. Since organic farming does not require fertilizer the process uses less energy in order to do so. The Global Organic TextileStandard, or GOTS, is the most prominent aspect of the change ongoing within the industry. Their primary goal is to ensure that there are globally accepted requirement to ensure that the textile is actually organically made. That means the whole process from start to finish is accomplished through environmentally and socially responsible means. Starting with cultivation, the only way a textile manufacturing company can be considered for GOTS approval is to have the textile products made with 70% of organic fibers (Global Organic Textile International Working Group). • 8. Globalized Islam By Olivier Roy In Olivier Roy s book, Globalized Islam, he writes about propaganda targets individuals, not groups as the strategy used Islamists, when elaborating a political program, targets groups, and more precisely social groups (impoverished neo urbanites, students from the lower and middle classes, and so on). Roy continues on to share their reasoning for the method of targeting individuals, not groups [author s italicization]. This remains congruent with their strategy of going to the polls; an electorate is always a collective and anonymous entity. Roy goes on to state why the new preachers use another method. But the new preachers target individuals, for the simple reason that they do not have a global political and social project, except implementation of sharia. In contrast he goes on to explain how the Taliban s agenda differs. Even the Taliban, who were ruling a real country, never cared about implementing any economic or social program, but were exclusively concerned with sharia. Consequently, individual Muslims that relocate from their own culture to migrate to the western world still remain well rooted in their religion despite the fact that no special accommodations are made for their religion. No allowances are made for Muslims to abide naturally and easily by the tenets of their religion. Hence the implementation of binding religious obligations rests on the good goodwill of the believer, not on any external cultural pressure or a state s legal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After these opening statements, the film jumps to a detective, Sam Spade, tasked with finding someone by Brigid O Shaunessy, ignoring the falcon completely. So who would we be to declare Socrates a fool? Before you can truly make a solid decision on whether or not you believe Socrates is foolish, you must have a brief understanding of Socratesmindset. • 12. Bear, Lion s Digestive System A similarity that is present between the bear, lion, and koalas digestive system is that they all have small intestines. In all of the animals digestive system they have small intestine which absorbs all the nutrients and minerals from the food that they have eaten. Small intestine, or small bowel, is a hollow tube about 20 feet long that runs from the stomachto the beginning of the large intestine. The small intestinebreaks down food from the stomach and absorbs much of the nutrients from the food. The duodenum is the first part of the small intestine. The main role of the duodenum is to complete the first phase of digestion. In this section of the intestine, food from the stomach is mixed with enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the gallbladder. The enzymes and bile help break down food. The jejunum is the second part of the small intestine. After food is broken down in the duodenum, it moves to the jejunum, where the inside walls absorb the food s nutrients. The inside walls of the jejunum have many circular folds, which make its surface area large enough to absorb all of the nutrients that the body needs. The ileum is the third part of the small intestine. It absorbs bile acids, which are returned to the liver to be made into more bile, then stored in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cultures of colonialism and competitive nature to obtain wealth through exploitation were the main driving force of hegemony. It is natural to exploit the people of lower class or societal rank for one s own advantage, and that is what happened. As the pressure of power and control became overbearing toward the people, resistance was sure to follow. Looking at today s society, there is a lot of exploitation and hegemony among certain groups. Scott stresses the lack of consensus in social situations of domination. Next in the hierarchy would be the indigenous people, and then lastly would be the slaves. By looking at the hierarchy, there is one thing that is certain. Her father probably had good intentions when he caused his daughter to be poisonous. He did it as a means of protection, but this backfired, because the tendency of others to misunderstand Beatrice s complex makeup led them to unintentionally kill her. Each of the three men in Rappaccinni s Daughter wanted to mold Beatrice into something and each had his own idea of her identity, yet none of them looked at her subjectively. This is pointed out by Luedtke on page 188. When he (Giovanni) was unable to bring Beatrice rigidly and systematically within the realm of his own experience, and unwilling to risk a closer knowledge, Giovanni left the poison damsel to die in her own pleasure place. It is interesting to note Luedtke s use of the words pleasure place . This suggests that the poisonous garden was not the real problem or prison for Beatrice. An interesting point is revealed by Luedtke as he states, The author makes a late attempt to intertwine her poison and her purity, but the demonic and the angelic continue to occupy their separate spheres, the former of the body, the latter of the soul. The statistical results of a research in Wales show that 50% of boys and 51% of girls achieved grades A* C in mathematics (Cann 1). The outcome of data displayed that girls abilities in this relevant field exceed those of boys. However, girls choose not to attend these mathematics related majors. These new perceptions and leaders helped build the structure of the history of the world. One of these resilient leaders was Augustus, who was considered to be the first emperor of the historical Roman Empire. During his reign as the first emperor, Augustus established many new and fulfilling virtues. Some of these virtues included the idea of taxation being more reasonable for citizens. He also implemented the creation of roads and the ultimate revamping of the Roman city. In order to document his lifetime and role as a Roman leader, Augustus decided to scribe many of his experienced achievements, successes, and victories. More importantly, he used this subjective inscription to successfully display his leadership and consultant persona during his reign. Throughout the inscription of the Res Gestae, Augustus expresses and legitimates his diplomatic authority by describing his many political successes, social achievements, and military victories to seek the approval of citizens throughout his reign during the Roman Empire. During his admired reign, Augustus claimed to have proficiency in many political successes that ultimately expresses and legitimates his authority. Introduction For this assignment, I chose to do a listing of quotes which I feel represent the theme of Happiness in The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Happiness is expressed in a number of ways, many of which the characters do not know about. I chose to focus on this theme because I felt it was the most prominent and important in the story, and that the characters go through a great deal of development while experiencing it. Chapter One: There is No One Else Mistress Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow? With silver bells and cockle shells, and marigolds all in a row. People who grow up as Mary did often will not see the joys in the little things, but rather a disturbance and a waste of time. Here he is, chuckled the old man, and then he spoke to the bird as if he here speaking to a child. Throughout the book, the Robin makes appearances that spark Mary s childlike wonder and imagination. She sees the bird and thinks that this creature may be the first she has ever liked, and therefore wants to know more about it. Mary feels something when she sees him, the same thing she feels when she is out on the moor playing. Happiness is beginning to become less of a dream and more of a reality, and this bird is only the beginning. A people or a class which is cut off from its own past is far less free to choose and to act as a people or class than one that has been able to situate itself in history. This is why and this is the only reason why the entire art of the past has now become a political issue (J. Berger pg. 33) He argues that if a group of people are robbed of being able to create their own culturally relative and socially correct standards for art, then they are being oppressed from engaging as political equals. People use art to understand their place within world history and create social and political meaning for themselves or their culture. Art gives you the power to control how people perceive the past, the present and possibly even the future. Although now the ability to control what art people see isn t as regulated as it once was, but prior to the invention of the camera and the internet, art was controlled by the minority of the elite and wealthy. the art of the past is being mystified because a privileged minority is striving to invent a history which can retrospectively justify the role of the ruling classes and such a justification can no longer make sense in modern terms (J. The upper class mystifies the general population to stay in control; without the ability to see things through our own eyes, people are being deprived of their right to understanding themselves and placing themselves in a role of society. This theme of isolation is continued throughout the novel with his cowboy tie at the dinner with Stellings, in contrast to his music obsession: Off the top of my head, I can think of at least ten orchestral tunes. Prufrock finds himself in a similar situation, questioning Do I dare/ Disturb the universe? the alliteration emphasising his feeling of isolation and uncertainty on what action he should take. The Monarch Butterfly is a milkweed butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It s the most common butterfly in North America , and is considered an iconic pollinator species .(Conserving Monarch butterflies And their habitats). The Monarch Butterflies have many nicknames such as, milkweed, common tiger, wanderer and black veined brown (Danaus). The Monarch Butterfly s life cycle has four stages, it begins with the egg, the caterpillar, the pupa, and then it emerges into an Adult butterfly. The female adult monarch butterfly mates with a male butterfly, and later lays its eggs specifically on a milkweed plant. After the eggs hatch, they turn into larva. The larva then spins a silky mat which turns into a chrysalis. Finally, the larva merges into an adult monarch butterfly. The monarch butterflies differ in migration than the any other species that migrate as well. The reason why the monarchs are different than other species is that they later come back to their previous winter location while other species stay.Monarch Butterflies migrate over 300,000 miles, for they can not stand the harsh cold temperatures. Every fall, they come from northern United States of America and migrate to southern United States of America, and at times they migrate all the way down to Mexico. Since monarch butterflies have a complicated life cycle (Migration) monarchs that have emerged in the winter do not yet reproduce until they re in the summer or spring season. On the other hand, monarch butterflies that are emerged in the summer or springtime reproduce rapidly. In addition, it s important for the monarchs to know when they have to migrate to the south and back to the winter. • 38. What Makes A Good Leader What qualities make a good leader? You can ask a hundred different people, and you will get a hundred different answers. A good leader is someone who accomplishes the mission, has the respect of their subordinates, and makes the difficult decisions when needed. For me, I believe that a great leader needs to have a variety of qualities, but most importantly a sense of fairness, hard work/care, and common consideration for others. Different experiences throughout my life and time at West Point have lead me to believe that these three tenants are what are most needed for a great leader. In terms of a leader s moral character, common consideration has the greatest influence on the success of a leader, because without common consideration, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are numerous occasions at West Point where I have seen individuals dole out unequal shares of duties or rewards based on their personal feelings towards the recipients. Fairness and impartiality are fundamental traits in good officers. If a leader singles out an individual for either unfair rewards or punishments, it signals to the unit that there are other necessary factors needed other than hard work to get ahead, such as cozying up to the platoon leader to get the good assignments. Soldiers need to know that assignments or tasks they are assigned are either given through merit, or are given equally to all soldiers in the unit. Unfair treatment is a quick way for soldiers to drift away from the task at hand and instead focus on getting into the good graces of the leader, leaving the unit less cohesive and the mission unaccomplished. I have witness firsthand here at West Point many unfair decisions that were made solely out of how much someone liked or hated the person they were dealing with. One such example that comes to mind is when one cadet was given preferential treatment and allowed to get off morning workouts, while other cadets had to continue. The physical development staff of my company forces any cadet with an APFT score of less than 260 to show up to morning workouts on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. These cadets are given the opportunity to stop attending workouts by scoring above a 270 on a diagnostic APFT conducted once a month. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stress to students that information systems are not a luxury. In most businesses they are the core to survival. This would be a good time to ask students to discuss how their own schools are using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. How Does the Surface Area to Volume Ratio Affect Heat Loss... Biology Lab Report BY: Michael Ryan Pranata 11C | Background: As heat is a form of thermal energy, they tend to have the behavior of reaching a thermal equilibrium. This means that when two bodies of different temperatures come in contact with each other, the hotter ones will transfer heat particles to the body with a colder temperature, with an aim to reach this thermal equilibrium , whatever the temperature may be. The larger the surface area, means there can be more paths from the sides of the body that are capable of releasing this heat particles, and reaching thermal equilibrium faster. This is what happens when a hotter body is subjected to a colder one. Research Question: How does the surface area to volume ratio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We observe the temperature of the four different flasks starting from the equal initial temperatures, every ten seconds for one samples all the way to three minutes. From the data observed, the average rate of heat loss can be derived. This is done by taking the initial and final temperature and dividing them by the number of seconds (18x as the total number of seconds is 180 and interval of 10 secs). Controlled: Initial temperature, type of insulation, type of flasks, room temperature, time. 1. We ve decided 77вЃ°C as our initial temperature for every trial. We ve kept the initial temperature equal for each trial as this would give us fair and reliable results. If the initial temperatures were kept different, therefore the data provided will be somewhat unreliable. This is also because as the temperatures are higher, the rate of heat loss would be faster, as compared to when the initial temperatures are lower. This would again support the unreliability of the data we would observe. 2. The type of insulation that we ve chosen is the cotton, approximately with the same thickness for each flask. They will be changed for every trial, because for each trial, as the heat escapes from the sides of the flask in the form of water vapor, it comes in contact with the cotton, thus making it moist, and changes the capacity of the cotton to insulate. We have decided to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
