! BIODIESEL INCORPORATED (Case Study p565 569) Joshua Maxwell shut down his laptop and

he could see a number of cars driving on the nearby freeway and sitting in the adjacent parking lot.
Josh was in his last term of the full time MBA program at UC Davis. He would soon be graduating

All of these functions essentially provide a substitute for human effort. Due to the widespread
consumption of petrol based liquid fuel, an incredibly large global infrastructure and set of
surrounding institutions have grown around the support of such consumption. The petrochemical fuel
industry manifests itself in the form of oil ļ¬elds and reserves, pipelines, transport ships, and fueling
stations. The way energy is used worldwide is not sustainable. It is well documented that the use of
these fuels is depleting the world s natural resource reserves, harming communities in terms of health
and displacement, and polluting the air and water in local environments. The drilling, reļ¬ning, and
transporting of oil leads to spills on land and in oceans, and when petrol based fuels are used to power
machines and automobiles, the air is polluted with greenhouse gases and particulate matter such as
carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur, and nitrous oxide emissions. In spite of the drawbacks, the
current energy industry is committed to the continuation of these ways, primarily because of
considerable assets and investment in the existing form of infrastructure. The challenge, which
became clear to the team from class discussion and further brainstorming, is to ļ¬nd a form of fuel or
technology that can mitigate the current negative affects on the environment of petrol based fuel while
utilizing the existing infrastructure. The urgency of this challenge is heightened by the

Online Banking
Introduction
The World Wide Web has changed our culture in so many ways. People are able to do so many
activities over the World Wide Web, it is unbelievable. You can pursue a degree through online
universities, communicate with users around the world, purchase goods and services online, and yes,
you can bank and pay your bills online. This new technology has enabled us to make payments,
maintain a checking/debit card account, balance transfers, all via the web. You can maintain your
entire financial portfolio through online banks that provide this feature. There are online banks that

These services used to range from free to fifteen dollars per month.
Disadvantages of online banking include the amount of time it takes to create and authorize your
account. In most cases, you will be required to visit the local branch to sign verification papers and
provide authentic identification. I must say I disagree with the article calling this a disadvantage. It is
certainly not convenient, but I would not call it a disadvantage. The learning curve is listed as a
disadvantage. Online banking sites can be very difficult to navigate, especially for new users.
Finally, and probably the most obvious, is the issue of trust you have in your online banking facility.
How secure is the transmission of my private information? How can I be sure the transaction went
through? Who else will have access to my information? This trust issue and skepticism of security is
by far the biggest concern of potential online banking consumers. The Ponemon Institute is dedicated
to studying ethical information management practices and research. The institute conducted a survey
this year entitled Privacy Trust Survey for Online Banking with 2,300 participants. In the institute s
research, it is found that eighty two percent of banking consumers say identity theft is their main
concern. The next two biggest concerns are telemarketing abuse and unauthorized

The Proces of Evolution
Without evolution, and the constant ever changing environment, the complexity of living organisms
would not be as it is. Evolution is defined as a process that results in heritable changes in a population
spread over many generations (8).Scientists believe in the theory of evolution. This belief is based on
scientific evidence that corroborates the theory of evolution. In Figure 1 the pictures of the skulls
depict the sequence of the evolution of Homo sapiens. As the figure shows, man has evolved from our
common ancestor that is shared by homo sapiens. The change of diet of homo sapiens over time has
thought to contribute to the change in jaw structure and overall skull shape.
The process of evolution comprises of many complex of mechanisms. These mechanisms
fundamentally allow the progression of speciation and adaptation to occur. There are 4 common kinds
of evolutionary mechanism of change: Natural Selection, Genetic Drift, Mutation and Migration.
Natural selection is based on the concept survival of the fittest where the most favourable individual
best suited in the environment survive and pass on their genes for the next generation. Those
individual who are less suited to the environment will die.
Another mechanism is a hereditable type of evolution is mutations. Mutations are alterations to a gene.
Mutation can be harmful, beneficial or neutral. Mutations are the origin of the source of genetic
diversity (9).Mutation that are harmful, hinders the chances of the

Don Don Don Da Da Da Don Don Don Da Da Da Da Don... I woke up from my dream about the dark

bed, barely staying on the blue comforter, still playing the same song. I shut it off and went back to

Clare, wake up or i m turning all the lights on, yelled my mom. I don t think I sat up so fast in my life.
Good, now get ready for school, it s your first day back, you have to make a good impression, she

I groaned, I really, really do not want to got to school, mom. I fell back against my headboard and

Okay, he said.
We started walking to school, on the Monday of August 31st. It was nearing fall, I could tell, every

What a perfect Monday. And without a jacket, too. Issac for some reason started taking off his jacket,

Here, you can have my jacket, he offered.

The results of this study did not support the hypothesis presented. However, there was a positive
correlation between hours spent and depression scores. There was no moderator effect within the
relationship of perceived social support and depression. Furthermore, some limitations played a part in
this study. First, the number of male participants in the study was low. Second, it is not generalizable
because this study was focused on psychiatric patients. Thirdly, recall bias may have affected the
subjective reporting of SNS use. Lastly, technology and social media is forever changing. Future

This poem is happy and cheerful, it is about love and nature. The poem My Love is presumably
written about Lowell s late wife Maria. In it, Lowell writes about how much he loves this woman and
how perfect and awesome her love is. He talks about how selfless and fair she is, how kind and wide
her heart is, and how she is a blessing to be with. The mood of this poem is cheerful and appreciative.
Summer Storm is about the feeling of everything before a storm, what it s like to be in a storm, and the
calm a storm has when it parts. Lowell uses so much imagery in this piece that it makes the reader feel
like they are in the storm. Another poem by Lowell is called The Moon, he compares the moon to his
soul. The tone of this poem is very sad, angry, and lonely. It seemed like his personal tragedies may
have prompted him to write this piece. Lastly, there is Song, which is about a fair bud of a lily. The
sun, wind, and rain take care of it and it grows into a beautiful woman flower, but sadly and suddenly
it is struck by death during the process of its growth. One may inquire that this poem may have been
prompted by one of his person tragedies. Most of Lowell s works were effected by the joyful and the
tragic events that were afoot in his life. For example. My Love was written about his the love of his
life, and The First Snowfall was prompted by the death of his children. His works were also
influenced by the events in his time,

The Importance Of Dinosaurs In Jurassic Park
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to stand right in front a real live breathing dinosaur?
This essay will analyze the movie Jurassic Park directed by Colin Trevorrow, the movie sheds light on
ancient dinosaurs and their characteristics. However, this essay will analyze the movie to determine
the factual truths while at the same time verifying if Jurassic park could be a relevant source to gain
knowledge of dinosaurs. The beginning of the essay speaks briefly about dinosaurs and how we know
they exist. The film is based on the recreation of dinosaurs and people s interaction with them,
however the elements of the film that will be analyzed are: the creation of the film, in terms of the
facts about dinosaurs, second the manner in which knowledge is obtain from the film (senses) and
thirdly, the emotional influence of the film on viewers. Many films are more than just entertainment,
some we obtain truth and knowledge from. First of all, dinosaurs have been around for a very long
time, but they are extinct now. We got to obtain knowledge about dinosaurs through the
paleontologists because they found fossils around the 19th century. In the movie we discover that
there are two types of dinosaurs on the island, carnivores and herbivores. The little boy mentions I
heard there are four herbivores and six carnivores at the beginning of the movie. This information he
has just said is true, but also there are many other dinosaurs and species that had existed.

Suffering In The Screwtape Letter
What comes to mind when the word suffering is mentioned? It usually brings up images of pain,
hardship, and unpleasantness. However, C. S. Lewis brings new meaning to suffering in The
Screwtape Letters. In one of the letters, Screwtape writes to Wormwood about the paradoxial use that
God makes of our suffering. By the end of Chapter 8, the reader is left to see that suffering itself can
be more powerful than times of ease and happiness in drawing someone closer to God. To begin with,
the troughs in life can be more valuable to one s soul than the peaks . In chapter 8, Screwtape tells
Wormwood, Now it may surprise you to learn that in His efforts to get permanent possession of a soul,
He relies on the troughs even more than on the peaks;

A Survey On The Health Bus Staff Essay
The Health Bus staff collects quantitative data including client demographics, proportion of people by
location and time of day, types of conditions presented and treatment interventions provided (The
Australian College of Ambulance Professionals, 2009). Hence, this evaluation will leverage on the
administrative data since the data is collected routinely and readily available. The researcher will
review the various files and statistics that SHR kept from August 2008 to August 2016 and use the
administrative data to determine the demographics of the people that have visited the health bus and
the conditions they presented and received treatment for. Client Surveys: A survey will be used
because it is an ideal method to reach a large number of respondents. A survey was similarly used to
evaluate the Mobile Access Project in Vancouver (Janssen, Gibson, Bowen, Spittal, Petersen, 2009)
and is an ideal method to determine coverage of a community based intervention (Callaghan Koru et
al., 2013). The self administered survey will consist of closed ended questions to measure client
satisfaction and determine the services clients received. An initial draft of the survey will be pre tested
with 30 participants as done in the Mobile Access Project (Janssen et al., 2009) and the researcher will

Essay Sarah and Angelina GrimkƩ
Up until and during the mid 1800 s, women were stereotyped and not given the same rights that men
had. Women were not allowed to vote, speak publically, stand for office and had no influence in public
affairs. They received poorer education than men did and there was not one church, except for the
Quakers, that allowed women to have a say in church affairs. Women also did not have any legal
rights and were not permitted to own property. Overall, people believed that a woman only belonged
in the home and that the only rule she may ever obtain was over her children. However, during the pre
Civil war era, woman began to stand up for what they believed in and to change the way that people
viewed society (Lerner, 1971). Two of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spending time with the slaves, as well as educating them, was something that Sarah very much looked
forward to and enjoyed. That was until her father became aware and completely prohibited her to have
any contact with them. In 1918, at the age of twenty six, Sarah s life encountered a major turning
point. While joining her father on a trip to Philadelphia she met many well known Quakers. While
talking with the men, Sarah found that she was interested in their beliefs and views on life and what
was occurring in society. This intrigued her to ask them their opinion on male and female equality.
When they responded that they were in favor of equality, she left the Anglican religion, as well as her
family, and moved to Philadelphia to become a Quaker. (VanBurkleo, 2000) However, as she studied
and lived with them, she soon discovered how they felt about slaves and African Americans in
general. At this time, her younger sister Angelina came to live with her and the two began protesting at
Quaker meetings. As children, Angelina and Sarah were extremely close. From the moment Angelina
was born, Sarah looked after her as her primary caregiver. Due to the close bond that they shared,
Angelina looked up to Sarah and followed in many of her footsteps. She too showed great admiration
and sympathy towards the salves on her plantation. Even at the young age of five, she was so
distressed at seeing a slave whipped that she begged a sea captain to help him escape

Racial Profiling Is A Breach Of Justice
Racial profiling is considered to be a breach of justice in the US. It is the use of someone s race or
ethnicity by law enforcement in deciding whether or not to stop, search, or arrest an individual. The
practice of racial profiling is still very controversial today and is considered illegal in many
jurisdictions. It is hard to say whether racial profiling is ethical or not. Profiling based on gender, race,
or ethnicity is just the way our minds work; it s natural. We create profiles of how we expect things to
be by quickly recalling our past experiences. We know that not every experience will fit into the
profiles we make in our heads but a lot of them do. Whether we like it or not, racial profiling has a
place in today s society in regards to crime solving and prevention.
One of the most common racial profiles is of African Americans being more likely to commit crimes.
This is a great example of a profile created over time due to facts and past experiences. If we look at
the number of homicides committed in the United States between 1974 and 2004, 52% of offenders
were black and 46% were white. (Threatcore, March 28, 2011, p. 1) Seems equal, right? However,
blacks made up only 12% of the population at this time while whites made up 80%. Racial profiling
doesn t just apply to African Americans. For example, do we assume that every Arab is a terrorist?
Since 9/11, Muslims and people of Arab descent have become targets through forms of racial
profiling. On December

Kim Kardashi Publicizing Motherhood And Sexuality
Kim Kardashian: Publicizing Motherhood and Sexuality The nature of celebrity has undergone a
dramatic transformation in the last century, particularly in the qualifications necessary for becoming
famous In Daniel J. Boorstin s The Image: A Guide to Pseudo Events in America, he argues that in
previous centuries, notable individuals were heroes who were celebrated for their greatness in some
achievements (49). Eventually, due to the rise of mass media, a celebrity was created in which the
credentials for merit all but disappeared. Instead the celebrity became a person who is well known for
his well knowness (Boorstin 57). Currently, there is no other celebrity in the world who is more
famous for being famous than Kim Kardashian. Kardashian did not rely on traditional
accomplishments to achieve celebrity status; instead, she exploited her renowned beauty, particularly
her curvaceous figure. However, that is not to say that she is any less impactful. Her highly publicized
and controversial actions, most of which relate to her free expression of sexuality, are criticized and
praised by millions of people every day. Indeed, it is Kardashian s ability to generate so much
feedback that makes her such an influential pop culture icon, and this has only increased since she
became a mother. The controversies surrounding her famous body showcase the many opposing
attitudes that society has on the relationship between motherhood and female sexuality. The public s

Pros And Cons Of Libertarianism
For this essay I shall explain libertarianism in a general sense, observing its aims and ideals for
society, what a government s role is in this society and what common views libertarians may share. I
will conclude with identifying a plausible form of this political philosophy based on the idealist merits
it puts forward to form a society based on personal freedom.
Libertarianism in a general sense is the view that every individual has the right to live their life in any
which way they may choose, so long as they hold respect for the equal rights of others. A Libertarian
government defends every individual s right to life, liberty, and property, observing that all people
hold this as a natural born right. Libertarians hold the view that, all individuals relationships should be
voluntary; and the main actions that should be restricted and punishable by law are those that involve
use of coercion against another or remove or impose on the rights of another in any such way. A
Libertarian is one who advocates maximizing individual rights and minimizing the role of the state
(What is Libertarian? 2013).
As a political philosophy Libertarianism aims towards the upholding of everyone s personal liberties
as its main principle. Classical Libertinism is built on the idea ... Show more content on

Disadvantages Of Tourism In Kenya
Tourism in Kenya
Introduction
Tourism
Goeldner and Ritchie (1995) define tourism as a short term movement of people to places other than
their normal place of residence and work, including the activities of persons travelling to and staying
in locations outside their places of residence and work for not more than twelve months for the
purpose of: leisure (recreation, vacation, health, study, religion and sport); and business family,
mission and meetings.

Direct jobs: those are such as jobs in hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, airports, tourist offices,
souvenir shops and game parks.
Indirect jobs: construction sector, entertainment industry, banks, craft industry, agricultural sector and
food and beverage sectors.
The increase of jobs: direct and indirect employment opportunities in the tourism and travel industry
have summed up to 543,500 jobs in the year 2014, this year 552,000 jobs were created from the

The Modelling Process And How It Helped With Risk Management
Explain the modelling process and how it helped with risk management
It is important to understand that you go through a set process of making multiple mock ups of your
product you are developing to a final stage this helps because there is a risk making your final product
without any sort of trial and error for example if you decide to make a fitness application and figure
out that the template and sort of arrangement doesn t look good then you will have to go back into the
code and fix it which in turn will make you face even more errors therefore wasting a lot of time and
even money. But in order to counter this situation like this if the person had of made a Photoshop copy
then he would of seen that his app maybe doesn t look that visually appealing and that would also help
looking at the overall feel of that application which will in turn help figure out any more errors in the
application and areas to improve upon. This strategy of technology modelling will greatly reduce the
risk of you getting stuck in any sticky situation therefore saving time and taking worry of your
shoulders.
Experiences of Technological Modelling for me I have also have gone through similar process during
the Initial brief assessment and prototype development. During the initial brief assessment we had to
go through the basic technological modelling process to come out with fully developed initial brief for
an application or a website in this case my browser but during this

The Production Of Lean Manufacture And How It Can Be...
Literature Review
Introduction
The purpose of this literary review is to achieve insight into lean manufacture and how it can be
applied within a manufacturing environment. With global contention, it is important for maker to
remain competitive in their respective marketplace and to understand the principles of lean
manufacturing and the step to implement them to ensure that they are on the leading edge of
manufacturing. This literary review describes the below mention principles.
Birth place of lean and Origins of mass production
Fred Winslow Taylor, a foundry manager from Philadelphia, lay the foundation for mass yield
(Dennis, 2002). He was the first to systematically apply scientific principles to manufacturing. His
many innovations involved: Standardized work classifying the finest and easiest way to do the
business; Reduced cycle meter the time it takes for a given process; Time and question study a peter
for developing standardized work; Measure and analysis to continually improve the process. The
Francis Scott Key to mass production was not the assembly credit line (Dennis, 2002). Rather, it was
the thorough interchangeability of region and ease of assembly. These innovations, in bout, make the
assembly line possible.
Henry Fords conveyor system at the Ford plant, allowed for mass production (Tapping,2007). The
moving assembly line brought the car past the stationary worker. (Dennis, 2002) The assembly line
decreases walk time, and most prominently, linked

Irony In The Canterbury Tales
Throughout The Canterbury Tales Chaucer uses elements of irony. The Canterbury.Tales is a frame
story compiling the tales of a number of characters on their way to the Canterbury Cathedral. This
Middle English work was never completely finished due to Chaucer s death in 1400; however, the
twenty four completed stories have been passed down through hand written manuscripts. The Pardoner
s Tale and The WIfe of Bath s Tale both feature a number of ironic statements from the characters
within each story. With his extensive use of irony Chaucer conveys his true feelings toward those he
wrote of in the tales. The Pardoner s Tale is a tale of three drinking men on their quest to find death.
Throughout the story Chaucer uses irony to show both the ironic journey of the men, and to show how
corrupt the Pardoner himself is. After encountering an old man in the streets, the men are pointed
towards a tree where they are told they will find death, but when they reach the tree only gold is to be
found. When the three drinking men state Who would have thought / This morning was to be our
lucky day? (181 182) Chaucer is using irony to allude to the fact that the three men do indeed find
death, but it is their own death they find. The Pardoner is using the three men to support his claim that
greed is the root of all evil and due to each of their desires to have all the gold to themselves they will
all perish. The tale shows how by finding the gold the brotherly oath to protect one

The cabdriver said himself he was a peace abiding person, but he could still turn into a Muslim

2007). This proves that even though we ve taken precautionary measures as a nation to protect the
country and the people in it, we re still vulnerable to terrorism because of immigration and other
advances in the world. We re The Land of the Free , we can t refrain from immigration if immigrants
were a possibility as being a threat. Also, we can t control what other countries do inside their country,
we can only control protect ours. Countering Terrorism was a great book that I would recommend to
read if you want to read about a factual opinion about the intelligence system and the efforts they ve
made or tried to make in order to protect our country from the threat of terrorism. It shows some that
the result of a bad event happening puts blame on the intelligence system as well as the intelligence
system causing themselves to look bad by the choices that they make.

Jack was singing a joyful he was excited cause he thought he was making children happy. He wasn t

movements to make his characters look evil just like in the movie Willy Wonka. In this movie Burton
uses longshot to make Wonka look bigger than other objects around him. I think Burton does this to

Edward scissorhands, when you first meet Edward the first thing you see is his scissorhands. Tim

The Degradation Of Coastal Wetlands
Introduction
There is rapid destruction of salt marshes and wetlands due to dredging operations and filling. In
Boston, almost eighty one percent of the salt marshes have been lost. For the Canadian Maritimes,
almost sixty four percent of the coastal wetlands have disappeared due to agricultural reclamation.
Approximately, ninety three percent coastal marshes have been lost along the Pacific coast in the
United States. In addition, there is a degradation of coastal wetland due to invasive species, nutrient
enrichment, and storm water discharge. It is critical to preserve and restore coastal salt marshes so that
carbon can be sequestered, and fish and bird populations can be preserved (Roman et. al. 2012). It is
estimated that coastal wetlands are being lost at the rate of two times the rate at which they are being
restored. Salt marshes are found amid human developments and coastal areas and play an important
role in protecting these communities from the threats posed by being close to the coast. Depending on
the density of vegetation, production of biomass, and the size of the marsh, salt marshes provide many
critical ecosystem services, such as, stabilization of the shoreline, weakening of the waves, and
reduction of floodwater (Shepard et. al. 2011). Wetlands include boreal peatlands and tropical
mangroves. They provide critical ecosystem services by acting as reserves for carbon, conserving
biodiversity, purifying water, enhancing fish production, and

Small Church Ministry Research Paper
When the bigger names and churches receive attention, there is an emotional, theological, and
personal impact on the small church pastor. Emotionally, there should be joy seeing another succeed.
If somebody in the same denominational is being successful, it makes sense to be happy for them
since they are being successful in presenting a similar message. However, it may be saddening
because the small church pastor is attempting to do the same thing, but is failing. Theologically,
similarly to emotionally, a small church pastor should be happy because it appears that the masses are
hearing their message. A pastor is concerned about having the message preached, and if someone is
doing that, he should be joyful about it. However, he may feel called

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The course of the evolution of my interest in engineering dates back to my childhood. It has begun in
my high school. The kind of environment in which I grew up is, both my parents were graduates in
Mathematics and were proficient in the field of teaching Mathematics in engineering level and high
school level. So, due to their influence on me, I had developed my interest in the subject and maths
was at my fingertips. At that point, I was enthusiastic to learn about the applications of Mathematics.
This lead to the important stage in my life, the field of engineering.
My high school education and my performance in various competitive exams laid the path for me to
pursue my bachelor of technology degree in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering
which suited me better because of my fondness for mathematics and my interest to study the
applications of the subject. The place of study is Amrita School of Engineering, a college under
Amrita University, Bangalore which is known for its academic excellence which is ranked among the
top 25 educational institutions in India.

Dentists, dental hygienists, orthodontists, and endodontists perform different job duties. For instance,
a dental hygienist supports a dentist by administering preventive dental hygiene care, tracking dental
conditions, and performing screening procedures such as health history reviews, blood pressure
checks, taking x rays, and making impressions of teeth. In addition, the dental hygienist informs the
dentist of any potential problems they have detected and assists during procedures.

orthodontists are dentists, they cannot practice general dentistry if they promote themselves as a

specialty within dentistry which concentrates on the straightness of teeth, and malocclusion.
Orthodontics is a specialty which requires at least two years of additional schooling after graduating
from an accredited dental school to focus on correcting jaws and teeth that are not in proper position.
Dentists generally offer services associated with dental hygiene, gum disease, tooth decay, teeth
whitening, bridges, crowns, and veneers. On the other hand, orthodontists are dentists who have
obtained further education to specialize in dental issues related to crowded or gappy teeth, misaligned
teeth, and overbites or underbites.

The Rat Model Of Depression
In the present study, the rat model of depression was induced by the daily i.p. injection of reserpine for
15 days. This was followed by monitoring the motor activity to check the development of the rat
model of depression. Then the depressed rats were treated with cannabis extract to study its effect on
this model.
After 15 days of daily reserpine injection, a significant decrease in motor activity was recorded as
assessed by the open field test (OFT). Together with the hunched back appearance that was observed
after 15 days, these behavioral changes indicate the development of rat model of depression which
was maintained by the daily i.p. injection for another 15 days.
After 30 days of daily reserpine injections, the significant changes in the OFT parameters and hunched
back appearance persisted and were similar to those observed after 15 days of reserpine treatment. In
addition to the motor deficits, the present depletion in cortical and hippocampal monoamine levels
induced by reserpine confirms the development of the rat model of depression, since the central
depletion in 5 HT, NE and/or DA have been postulated as the main cause for the pathogenesis of
depression (Schechter et al., 2005)
Our results were consistent with the study of Antkiewicz Michaluk et al. (2014) who found a distinct
depressive like behavior in the forced swimming test, motor impairment, and reduced levels of
dopamine, noreepinephrine, and serotonin in the brain after treatment with a low dose of

Essay on Analysis of Rita Doveā€™s, ā€œDaystarā€
C Stevens 07/09/2010 Professor Kierath English 102.212 Analysis of Rita Dove s, Daystar Daystar by
Rita Dove is an expressive poem, which centers on the main character, a young mother and wife, who
internally struggles with her burdensome, daily duties, which creates a lack of freedom in her world.
Dove s choice of words lets the reader empathize with her confined life. In this poem, irony exists for
the mere fact that from birth to adulthood the female population is brought up to feel fulfilled by
simply becoming a wife and mother; however, this poem describes the monotonous duties and the
joyless bond that can be between husband and wife. As the poem opens, Dove begins with a metaphor
that entertains the idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later that night when Thomas roller over and lurched into her, she would open her eyes and think of
the place that was hers this proves the point that she cannot even express herself sexually because she
does not feel as if she has control in the situation. Her mind wanders elsewhere, in a place where she
is her own master, instead of what is reality. Additionally, the main character s husband shows some
selfish tendencies in the fact that he may not notice his wife s discontentment with his affection.
However, this may also present the lack of communication between man and wife and therefore may
cause a sense of isolation from her husband. The main character possesses the characteristics of most
young women, a full plate of responsibility and the lack of freedom that can wither away a person s
soul. My response to this poem is that I strongly respect the author for bringing up such a
controversial issue such as discontentment with being a stay at home mother, since this is usually to be
expected of women. Dove explains the poem delicately and leaves the underlying sense that she may
have possibly been through the situation herself. This being said, her imagery is wonderfully used and
the metaphor of the doll being slumped over is a brilliant way to reflect upon the main character s
feelings and actions. The irony comes into play, in my opinion,

Old Yeller Analysis
Old Yeller is a coming of age novel set in 1860s Texas that details the relationship between the Coates
family, especially the 14 year old son, Travis, and a stray dog named Old Yeller. The dog is named
both for his dingy yellow coat ( yeller as pronounced in the southern accent that permeates the
narrative) and his bark, which sounds more like a yell than the standard animal call. Yeller comes into
the Coates family s life after Jim, the father of the family, leaves on a cattle drive to Kansas. Before he
leaves, Jim tells Travis that he is now the man of the house until he returns home, a designation which
motivates Travis to take responsibility and make sacrifices for the good of his family. If Travis can
prove himself worthy of the designation of being a man, his father promises to give him a man s horse.
Although the Coates family is at the center of the narrative, it is Travis relationship with Yeller that is
the focus. When Yeller is first introduced, Travis not only finds him to be a nuisance but actively
despises him. The first time the dog is seen by Travis and the reader is the day after Jim has left the
family. Yeller has devoured a piece of meat that the family was about to prepare for a meal. Yeller
continues to cause trouble, with only younger brother Arliss devotion to him keeping Travis from
pushing him away from the household.

comes to mind is most likely a white, 18 22 year old athlete who is a part of Greek life. However, one
of their recent recruiting videos appeals to students who do not fit these demographics. This video can
be found on Ohio State University s Youtube page, titled Ohio State National TV Commercial. It is
unique because it attempts to appeal to students who may not consider OSU, such as international or
non traditional students, or perhaps students of color. The video begins with a quick shot of about ten
to fifteen students, each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An aerial shot of the Ohio State football stadium comes on screen with a dark green color scheme
similar to the one in the previous scene, but slightly lighter to suggest that it is now early morning.
The camera cuts to a few shots of people, mostly men of various races, in crew uniforms working on a
white race car with the Ohio State logo on the hood. The man in the voice over says, ...with a team
that shared diverse ideas and expertise.
An aerial shot of birds flying over Kampala, Uganda comes onto the screen. The man is now wearing
a nice suit and speaks confidently to a conference room full of people about a bright yellow smart car
model on the screen next to him. There is a shot of his hands working on a small car part in an office.
The man says, Now, I m home building more sustainable vehicles and a new industry for my country.
Then, the man looks out a large, clear glass window. His name, Dennis Kibalama, pops up onto the
screen next to him in a white, bolded, professional font. Below his name the screen says, Engineer.
Environmentalist. Driving Economic Growth. The man turns and walks away as the screen closes out
into a white screen featuring the Ohio State logo.
This video comes from the official Ohio State University Youtube page and was published on August
17, 2017, so it can be safely assumed that it came directly from Ohio State itself. Ohio State
University is quite largely known for their football team and also

Don John Deception
Ā“Ā“We always deceive ourselves twice about the people we love first to their advantage, then to their
disadvantageĀ“Ā“ (Albert Camus). In William Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing, Don John is
trying to break Claudio and Hero up. While this plan is in the making there is a lot of other lies that
are being created. In this play there is a lot of lies and deceit, but the characters do not think twice
about lying, they just do it. Deception in this play is revealed throughout many plans that the
characters create like Don John s plan to break up Claudio and Hero, Don pedros plan to get Benedick
and Beatrice together, and the Friar s plan to make everyone think Hero is dead and then reveal her at
the wedding. No deception is not presented as morally wrong in the ... Show more content on

Don John has Borachio pose Margaret as Hero and gets Borachio to have sex with Hero . Don John
takes Claudio to see Hero with another man, Proof enough to misuse the prince, to vex Claudio, to
undo Hero, and kill Leonato (2:2). This makes Claudio and the Prince think Hero is not a virgin,
which was a big deal back then. This leads to Claudio to accuse her of infidelity at the wedding which
causes a huge scene. In act one scene three Don John is starting to feel unworthy ever since Claudio
became his brothers number one man, I cannot be said to be a flattering honest man, it must not be
denied that I am a plain dealing villain (1:3). Don John is planning on getting revenge on Claudio and
getting back as Don Pedros number one man so he creates an evil plan to ruin Hero and Claudio s
relationship. Don John blantly states that he is a villain... he does not sugar coat it. Don John tries but
fails to get his plan to work in the end. At the end of the play, Don John flees Messina but eventually
gets captured by armed men, which was for the

The National Basketball Association ( Nba )
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is currently struggling with a widespread epidemic
known as tanking. Tanking, for the sake of this paper, is a, team s intent to do less than everything it
can to win. Teams are motivated to tank because of a system known as the NBA Draft lottery, which
assigns the worst NBA teams with the best odds of winning one of the three top picks in the NBA
Draft (where teams are able to select from a talent pool of amateur or previously unassociated
athletes). This allocation (of higher odds in the NBA Draft lottery) represents a rent, or a, return to
investment, or effort, that exceeds the opportunity cost rate of return. In this context, it is understood
to mean that teams are competing for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether through occupational licenses, non compete clauses, or land use restrictions, rent seeking has
been associated with causing higher income inequality and negatively interfering with the operation of
free market economies . An example of the negative effects of of rent seeking can be found in
occupational licenses. While occupational licenses were noted for increasing income by 15% over the
free market value of an occupation, they are also charged with inhibiting entrepreneurship (especially
among low income workers), raising prices, and lowering productivity . In fact, a 2011 study even
indicated that the existence of occupational licenses may be responsible for removing as many 2.85
million jobs from the US economy .
Given that rent seeking has been blamed for income inequality, job loss, and lower economic
productivity, it is no surprise that there have been a variety of academic works on the subject. One
such work is an article by Michael Munger entitled Rent Seek and You Will Find. In the article,
Munger describes his involvement in the bidding process for HUD grants while working in Charlotte.
In this case, the HUD grants represent the rent, as the grants are a capital infusion that the winning city
would receive from the government, rather than income generated from free market actions that drive
more business or sustainable tax income to the city. Munger

The Field Of Mental Health Counseling
Introduction
Burnout in the field of Mental Health Counseling is a serious concern for everyone involved, whether
the person is just beginning their journey, or if they are a seasoned veteran with years of experience.
Unless, the person has a prevention plan in place and adds it into their busy schedule and does not
stray from their commitment of their self care program. It is easy when we get busy to skip a day here
and there and the next thing you know we have not taken care of ourselves for a month or longer.
Once we permit ourselves to neglect our self care program the symptoms of burnout and begin to
develop very quickly. Personally, I believe with a good self care program, it is easier to circumvent
burnout, then it is to overcome it once you are in its grips. Here are some of the things I implement
into my schedule to help myself from becoming burnt out.
Personal Care Mentally, Physically, Emotionally
As a student pursuing a career in the field of Mental Health Counseling, while I was attending classes
in my undergraduate program self care was a regular topic that was brought up. Over half of the
professors would stress the seriousness of burnout and the need to begin a self care program while still
a student. Fortunately, prior to entering college, I unknowingly began a self care program, a few times
a week I participate in 12 step meetings. At the meetings, I have several close friends that I can talk to
in confidence about anything, that helps me get

Baseball Is A Man s Sport
In this world there are many things that are similar in some ways, but are completely different in
others. In the world of sports there are in most cases a men s version of a sport, and a women s version
of a sport, like fastpitch softball and baseball. Softball and baseball are similar sports, both use the
same items to do the same job. Each individual player uses a ball, glove, helmet, bat, and cleats to
accomplish the goals to play the games of softball and baseball. The goals are to have more runs than
the other team at the end of the game. However, these two sports are not exactly alike like many
spectators suspect they are.
The main difference in softball and baseball are the players. Generally, baseball is a man s sport with
the rare exception of women playing. However, girls usually stop playing baseball when they grow
older because girls cannot play in the MLB. Therefore, they go to the next closest thing to baseball
which is softball.
When it comes to pitching in softball and baseball one should be able to spot the difference
automatically. In baseball the pitchers throw the baseball over hand while in softball the pitchers
throw the softball underhand. Since softball players throw softballs underhand there is a difference in
the pitching rules compared to baseball. Softball players do not have a rule on how many innings they
are allowed to throw, while baseball has a strict limit on how many pitches or innings they are allowed
to throw. Baseball counts the

The Rump Organization Essay
MEMORANDUM To: Dr. John J. Morris, Department of Accounting From: Group #1 (Matt Meenen,
Bailey Ochs, Allison Olive, Marit Pavek) Date: 04/03/2014 Subject: Case 08 6, The Rump
Organization Statement of Relevant Facts: The Rump Organization, a SEC registrant, is planning a
corporate restructuring plan. On December 27, 2005 Ronald Rump, the CEO of the organization,
along with the Board of Directors approved a plan to involuntarily terminate 100 of the organization s
employees. There is an option for each of the employees to sign a litigation waiver, which forfeits any
right they have for legal action against Rump. In exchange for their voluntary signing of the waiver,
Rump will offer each employee a lump sum cash payment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alternatively, if the employee s termination is considered voluntary a liability will be recorded when
the employee leaves the company (ASC 712 10 25 1). In order to answer this question we need to
establish the communication date in the case. After establishing the communication date we need to
determine if all criteria presented in ASC 420 10 25 4 are satisfied. An additional issue is if the past
one time severance benefit offered to employees being terminated could be considered an
enhancement to an ongoing benefit arrangement. If it is considered an enhancement, the liability
would be recognized when it is probable that a future settlement will be reached (ASC 420 10 55 18).
Conclusions and Authoritative Reasoning: Below is a summary of our conclusions and authoritative
reasoning for each of the provisions: 1. We conclude that Rump should recognize the liability for the
expected employee termination benefits on the communication date, upon meeting all four criteria
presented in ASC 420 10 25 4 and communicated to the employees, which is December 31, 2005. We
believe that the termination of the employees is involuntary. We also concluded that the benefit
arrangement is not to be treated as an enhancement to an ongoing benefit arrangement. a. Following is
a discussion of the four criteria presented in ASC 420 10 25 4: i. Management, having the authority to

A Small Incident, And On The Oxcart By Lu Xun
Asian stories are mostly characterized by experiences that may impact the reader s life and reshape it
in some way. First person narration is one of the most common literatures we can find between these
kind of stories. In stories like A Small Incident by Lu Xun, and On the Oxcart by Xiao Hong, we can
clearly notice that the authors are trying to give us a message within the anecdote. Lu Xun s story,
about an episode that changed his life, has a pretty direct message he wishes to portray to the reader.
On the other hand, Xiao Hong s narration is one that has the reader thinking about what message he s
trying to portray. Both stories have a unique point of view on events and what may come out of it:
what the author learned, what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was there to show Lu Xun how humane service can change a person s soul. He ends the story
telling us how this small incident keeps teaching [him] shame, spurring [him] on to reform, and
imbuing [him] with fresh courage and fresh hope. In the story On the Oxcart Xiao Hong has a young
girl recount a conversation she heard while on the way to town. The two other people in the cart with
her were Sister Wuyun and the carter; all the while the girl pretended to sleep. Sister Wuyun was
telling the story of the moment they told her her husband was coming back from war because he
became a deserter. She went to the river wharf with her baby to greet him before he received his
punishment and a very peculiar and random event happened. While she was waiting for the ship to
arrive, Sister Wuyun had thoughts about leaving her baby behind and commit suicide. She explained
how at that moment she felt like putting Little Baldy down on the riverbank and jumping straight to
the bottom [of the river]. Just leave that one little life behind; as soon as he started crying, someone
would surely come and take him away (222). To do so she had to make him sleep , but looking at the
baby reminded her of her husband who had to arrive at any moment. The second Sister Wuyun set her
baby down a sailing boat came around the riverbed, and when [she] heard

Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them (Acts 2:3
NRSV) Prayers for those affected by the wildfires in Alberta, Canada. Pray for those who have lost
their homes and all their possessions. Prayers for those whose work is affected. And of course prayers
for those who are fighting the fires. It s hard for me to get my mind around what it would be like to
live in an area with a wild fire. We don t have a lot of those in Ohio, certainly not in thesize and
devastation of the one in Alberta. We have Tornados. They are horrible. Bu they are quick. WIld fires

There are times when a part of a forest needs to be burnt away so something else can grow. It gives
space for new life in the forest as well. There are times, when fires will be intentionally set in order for
this to happen. This is done by what we call a controled burn. Those in charge have mechanisms set up
so the fire will be , well, controlled. They comparmentalize it so it burns exactly what needs to be
burned away and nothing more. Controlled burns are so benificial they are often used to fight an out of
control wild fire. Areas are set on fire to remove the fuel from the forest fire itself. when the wild fire
has nothing to burn, the fire will slow down, and hopefully be put out. This past Sunday we celebrated
Pentecost. Symbolized of course, not only by a dove but by fire. I like the symbol of fire to symbolize
the Holy Spirit. Because that s what the Holy Spirit does, when it comes upon us it comes like a fire. It
brings light to illumine our sin and light a path for us to follow in life. It causes our hearts to be
strangely warmed . It burns away our sin, and burns down old was to do things so that new life can

Insanity and the Necessity of Madness in King Lear Essay
The Necessity of Madness in King Lear
At the beginning of King Lear, an authoritative and willful protagonist dominates his court, making a
fateful decision by rewarding his two treacherous daughters and banishing his faithful one in an effort
to preserve his own pride. However, it becomes evident during the course of the tragedy that this
protagonist, Lear, uses his power only as a means of projecting a persona, which he hides behind as he
struggles to maintain confidence in himself. This poses a problem, since the audience is prevented
from feeling sympathy for the king. Shakespeare s ironic solution is to allow Lear s progressing
madness to be paired with his recognition of truth, thereby forcing Lear to shed his persona, and ...

In working so hard to project this persona, Lear is untrue to himself, and loses sight of who he is. Even
the scheming Goneril and Regan notice that their father hath ever but/ slenderly known himself. (I, i,
282 283) This makes Lear a very insecure person, which explains in part why he insists that his
daughters stroke his ego before receiving any of his kingdom. His identity crisis is highlighted when
he asks who can verify who he is, and the response by the Fool is: Lear s shadow. (I, iv, 251) At this
point in the play, Lear is sane and is still the monarch of the kingdom. Nevertheless, the Fool s
insightful comment insists that Lear is nothing more than a shadow of his true self. Plato would say
that he is trapped in the shadow world of the cave, unable to grasp the true forms.[5] This self imposed
persona estranges Lear from his audience; his vulnerability as a human is masked by his rash behavior
and unjust decisions. Bloom says that before he goes mad, Lear s consciousness is beyond ready
understanding; his lack of self knowledge, blended with his awesome authority, makes him
unknowable by us. [6] Without understanding a character, an audience is most definitely unable to
sympathize with him, and here we run into a potentially problematic issue. Aristotle believes that

From the second ļ¬‚oor of the Graduate School of Management s new building, he could see a number of cars driving on the nearby freeway and sitting in the adjacent parking lot. Josh was in his last term of the full time MBA program at UC Davis. He would soon be graduating and entering a new chapter of his life. While he had the luxury of having several management level job offers from which to choose, he was unsure whether he wanted to follow such a traditional route. There was one opportunity in particular that had recently come across his path which gave him pause. Background The previous term, Josh had been enrolled in ... Due to the widespread consumption of petrol based liquid fuel, an incredibly large global infrastructure and set of surrounding institutions have grown around the support of such consumption. The petrochemical fuel industry manifests itself in the form of oil ļ¬elds and reserves, pipelines, transport ships, and fueling stations. The way energy is used worldwide is not sustainable. It is well documented that the use of these fuels is depleting the world s natural resource reserves, harming communities in terms of health and displacement, and polluting the air and water in local environments. The drilling, reļ¬ning, and transporting of oil leads to spills on land and in oceans, and when petrol based fuels are used to power machines and automobiles, the air is polluted with greenhouse gases and particulate matter such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur, and nitrous oxide emissions. In spite of the drawbacks, the current energy industry is committed to the continuation of these ways, primarily because of considerable assets and investment in the existing form of infrastructure. The challenge, which became clear to the team from class discussion and further brainstorming, is to ļ¬nd a form of fuel or technology that can mitigate the current negative affects on the environment of petrol based fuel while utilizing the existing infrastructure. The urgency of this challenge is heightened by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Disadvantages of online banking include the amount of time it takes to create and authorize your account. In most cases, you will be required to visit the local branch to sign verification papers and provide authentic identification. I must say I disagree with the article calling this a disadvantage. It is certainly not convenient, but I would not call it a disadvantage. The learning curve is listed as a disadvantage. Online banking sites can be very difficult to navigate, especially for new users. Finally, and probably the most obvious, is the issue of trust you have in your online banking facility. How secure is the transmission of my private information? How can I be sure the transaction went through? Who else will have access to my information? This trust issue and skepticism of security is by far the biggest concern of potential online banking consumers. The Ponemon Institute is dedicated to studying ethical information management practices and research. The institute conducted a survey this year entitled Privacy Trust Survey for Online Banking with 2,300 participants. In the institute s research, it is found that eighty two percent of banking consumers say identity theft is their main concern. Evolution is defined as a process that results in heritable changes in a population spread over many generations (8).Scientists believe in the theory of evolution. This belief is based on scientific evidence that corroborates the theory of evolution. In Figure 1 the pictures of the skulls depict the sequence of the evolution of Homo sapiens. As the figure shows, man has evolved from our common ancestor that is shared by homo sapiens. The change of diet of homo sapiens over time has thought to contribute to the change in jaw structure and overall skull shape. The process of evolution comprises of many complex of mechanisms. These mechanisms fundamentally allow the progression of speciation and adaptation to occur. There are 4 common kinds of evolutionary mechanism of change: Natural Selection, Genetic Drift, Mutation and Migration. Natural selection is based on the concept survival of the fittest where the most favourable individual best suited in the environment survive and pass on their genes for the next generation. Those individual who are less suited to the environment will die. Another mechanism is a hereditable type of evolution is mutations. Mutations are alterations to a gene. Mutation can be harmful, beneficial or neutral. Mutations are the origin of the source of genetic diversity (9).Mutation that are harmful, hinders the chances of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This poem is happy and cheerful, it is about love and nature. The poem My Love is presumably written about Lowell s late wife Maria. In it, Lowell writes about how much he loves this woman and how perfect and awesome her love is. He talks about how selfless and fair she is, how kind and wide her heart is, and how she is a blessing to be with. The mood of this poem is cheerful and appreciative. Summer Storm is about the feeling of everything before a storm, what it s like to be in a storm, and the calm a storm has when it parts. Lowell uses so much imagery in this piece that it makes the reader feel like they are in the storm. Another poem by Lowell is called The Moon, he compares the moon to his soul. The tone of this poem is very sad, angry, and lonely. It seemed like his personal tragedies may have prompted him to write this piece. Lastly, there is Song, which is about a fair bud of a lily. The sun, wind, and rain take care of it and it grows into a beautiful woman flower, but sadly and suddenly it is struck by death during the process of its growth. One may inquire that this poem may have been prompted by one of his person tragedies. Most of Lowell s works were effected by the joyful and the tragic events that were afoot in his life. Lewis brings new meaning to suffering in The Screwtape Letters. In one of the letters, Screwtape writes to Wormwood about the paradoxial use that God makes of our suffering. By the end of Chapter 8, the reader is left to see that suffering itself can be more powerful than times of ease and happiness in drawing someone closer to God. To begin with, the troughs in life can be more valuable to one s soul than the peaks . In chapter 8, Screwtape tells Wormwood, Now it may surprise you to learn that in His efforts to get permanent possession of a soul, He relies on the troughs even more than on the peaks; ... • 13. Essay Sarah and Angelina GrimkĆ© Up until and during the mid 1800 s, women were stereotyped and not given the same rights that men had. Women were not allowed to vote, speak publically, stand for office and had no influence in public affairs. They received poorer education than men did and there was not one church, except for the Quakers, that allowed women to have a say in church affairs. Women also did not have any legal rights and were not permitted to own property. Overall, people believed that a woman only belonged in the home and that the only rule she may ever obtain was over her children. However, during the pre Civil war era, woman began to stand up for what they believed in and to change the way that people viewed society (Lerner, 1971). Two of the most ... That was until her father became aware and completely prohibited her to have any contact with them. In 1918, at the age of twenty six, Sarah s life encountered a major turning point. While joining her father on a trip to Philadelphia she met many well known Quakers. While talking with the men, Sarah found that she was interested in their beliefs and views on life and what was occurring in society. This intrigued her to ask them their opinion on male and female equality. When they responded that they were in favor of equality, she left the Anglican religion, as well as her family, and moved to Philadelphia to become a Quaker. (VanBurkleo, 2000) However, as she studied and lived with them, she soon discovered how they felt about slaves and African Americans in general. At this time, her younger sister Angelina came to live with her and the two began protesting at Quaker meetings. As children, Angelina and Sarah were extremely close. From the moment Angelina was born, Sarah looked after her as her primary caregiver. Due to the close bond that they shared, Angelina looked up to Sarah and followed in many of her footsteps. • 14. Racial Profiling Is A Breach Of Justice Racial profiling is considered to be a breach of justice in the US. It is the use of someone s race or ethnicity by law enforcement in deciding whether or not to stop, search, or arrest an individual. The practice of racial profiling is still very controversial today and is considered illegal in many jurisdictions. It is hard to say whether racial profiling is ethical or not. Profiling based on gender, race, or ethnicity is just the way our minds work; it s natural. We create profiles of how we expect things to be by quickly recalling our past experiences. We know that not every experience will fit into the profiles we make in our heads but a lot of them do. Whether we like it or not, racial profiling has a place in today s society in regards to crime solving and prevention. One of the most common racial profiles is of African Americans being more likely to commit crimes. This is a great example of a profile created over time due to facts and past experiences. If we look at the number of homicides committed in the United States between 1974 and 2004, 52% of offenders were black and 46% were white. (Threatcore, March 28, 2011, p. 1) Seems equal, right? However, blacks made up only 12% of the population at this time while whites made up 80%. Racial profiling doesn t just apply to African Americans. For example, do we assume that every Arab is a terrorist? Since 9/11, Muslims and people of Arab descent have become targets through forms of racial profiling. On December ... Kim Kardashi Publicizing Motherhood And Sexuality Kim Kardashian: Publicizing Motherhood and Sexuality The nature of celebrity has undergone a dramatic transformation in the last century, particularly in the qualifications necessary for becoming famous In Daniel J. Boorstin s The Image: A Guide to Pseudo Events in America, he argues that in previous centuries, notable individuals were heroes who were celebrated for their greatness in some achievements (49). Eventually, due to the rise of mass media, a celebrity was created in which the credentials for merit all but disappeared. Instead the celebrity became a person who is well known for his well knowness (Boorstin 57). Currently, there is no other celebrity in the world who is more famous for being famous than Kim Kardashian. A Libertarian government defends every individual s right to life, liberty, and property, observing that all people hold this as a natural born right. The Modelling Process And How It Helped With Risk Management Explain the modelling process and how it helped with risk management It is important to understand that you go through a set process of making multiple mock ups of your product you are developing to a final stage this helps because there is a risk making your final product without any sort of trial and error for example if you decide to make a fitness application and figure out that the template and sort of arrangement doesn t look good then you will have to go back into the code and fix it which in turn will make you face even more errors therefore wasting a lot of time and even money. But in order to counter this situation like this if the person had of made a Photoshop copy then he would of seen that his app maybe doesn t look that visually appealing and that would also help looking at the overall feel of that application which will in turn help figure out any more errors in the application and areas to improve upon. This strategy of technology modelling will greatly reduce the risk of you getting stuck in any sticky situation therefore saving time and taking worry of your shoulders. Experiences of Technological Modelling for me I have also have gone through similar process during the Initial brief assessment and prototype development. The Canterbury.Tales is a frame story compiling the tales of a number of characters on their way to the Canterbury Cathedral. This Middle English work was never completely finished due to Chaucer s death in 1400; however, the twenty four completed stories have been passed down through hand written manuscripts. The Pardoner s Tale and The WIfe of Bath s Tale both feature a number of ironic statements from the characters within each story. With his extensive use of irony Chaucer conveys his true feelings toward those he wrote of in the tales. The Pardoner s Tale is a tale of three drinking men on their quest to find death. Throughout the story Chaucer uses irony to show both the ironic journey of the men, and to show how corrupt the Pardoner himself is. After encountering an old man in the streets, the men are pointed towards a tree where they are told they will find death, but when they reach the tree only gold is to be found. When the three drinking men state Who would have thought / This morning was to be our lucky day? (181 182) Chaucer is using irony to allude to the fact that the three men do indeed find death, but it is their own death they find. The Pardoner is using the three men to support his claim that greed is the root of all evil and due to each of their desires to have all the gold to themselves they will all perish. In Boston, almost eighty one percent of the salt marshes have been lost. For the Canadian Maritimes, almost sixty four percent of the coastal wetlands have disappeared due to agricultural reclamation. Approximately, ninety three percent coastal marshes have been lost along the Pacific coast in the United States. In addition, there is a degradation of coastal wetland due to invasive species, nutrient enrichment, and storm water discharge. It is critical to preserve and restore coastal salt marshes so that carbon can be sequestered, and fish and bird populations can be preserved (Roman et. al. 2012). It is estimated that coastal wetlands are being lost at the rate of two times the rate at which they are being restored. Salt marshes are found amid human developments and coastal areas and play an important role in protecting these communities from the threats posed by being close to the coast. Depending on the density of vegetation, production of biomass, and the size of the marsh, salt marshes provide many critical ecosystem services, such as, stabilization of the shoreline, weakening of the waves, and reduction of floodwater (Shepard et. al. 2011). • 33. The Rat Model Of Depression In the present study, the rat model of depression was induced by the daily i.p. injection of reserpine for 15 days. This was followed by monitoring the motor activity to check the development of the rat model of depression. Then the depressed rats were treated with cannabis extract to study its effect on this model. After 15 days of daily reserpine injection, a significant decrease in motor activity was recorded as assessed by the open field test (OFT). Together with the hunched back appearance that was observed after 15 days, these behavioral changes indicate the development of rat model of depression which was maintained by the daily i.p. injection for another 15 days. After 30 days of daily reserpine injections, the significant changes in the OFT parameters and hunched back appearance persisted and were similar to those observed after 15 days of reserpine treatment. In addition to the motor deficits, the present depletion in cortical and hippocampal monoamine levels induced by reserpine confirms the development of the rat model of depression, since the central depletion in 5 HT, NE and/or DA have been postulated as the main cause for the pathogenesis of depression (Schechter et al., 2005) Our results were consistent with the study of Antkiewicz Michaluk et al. (2014) who found a distinct depressive like behavior in the forced swimming test, motor impairment, and reduced levels of dopamine, noreepinephrine, and serotonin in the brain after treatment with a low dose of ... Essay on Analysis of Rita Doveā€™s, ā€œDaystarā€ C Stevens 07/09/2010 Professor Kierath English 102.212 Analysis of Rita Dove s, Daystar Daystar by Rita Dove is an expressive poem, which centers on the main character, a young mother and wife, who internally struggles with her burdensome, daily duties, which creates a lack of freedom in her world. Dove s choice of words lets the reader empathize with her confined life. In this poem, irony exists for the mere fact that from birth to adulthood the female population is brought up to feel fulfilled by simply becoming a wife and mother; however, this poem describes the monotonous duties and the joyless bond that can be between husband and wife. As the poem opens, Dove begins with a metaphor that entertains the idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her mind wanders elsewhere, in a place where she is her own master, instead of what is reality. Additionally, the main character s husband shows some selfish tendencies in the fact that he may not notice his wife s discontentment with his affection. However, this may also present the lack of communication between man and wife and therefore may cause a sense of isolation from her husband. The main character possesses the characteristics of most young women, a full plate of responsibility and the lack of freedom that can wither away a person s soul. My response to this poem is that I strongly respect the author for bringing up such a controversial issue such as discontentment with being a stay at home mother, since this is usually to be expected of women. Dove explains the poem delicately and leaves the underlying sense that she may have possibly been through the situation herself. This being said, her imagery is wonderfully used and the metaphor of the doll being slumped over is a brilliant way to reflect upon the main character s feelings and actions. The irony comes into play, in my opinion, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Old Yeller Analysis Old Yeller is a coming of age novel set in 1860s Texas that details the relationship between the Coates family, especially the 14 year old son, Travis, and a stray dog named Old Yeller. The dog is named both for his dingy yellow coat ( yeller as pronounced in the southern accent that permeates the narrative) and his bark, which sounds more like a yell than the standard animal call. Yeller comes into the Coates family s life after Jim, the father of the family, leaves on a cattle drive to Kansas. Before he leaves, Jim tells Travis that he is now the man of the house until he returns home, a designation which motivates Travis to take responsibility and make sacrifices for the good of his family. If Travis can prove himself worthy of the designation of being a man, his father promises to give him a man s horse. Although the Coates family is at the center of the narrative, it is Travis relationship with Yeller that is the focus. When Yeller is first introduced, Travis not only finds him to be a nuisance but actively despises him. The first time the dog is seen by Travis and the reader is the day after Jim has left the family. Yeller has devoured a piece of meat that the family was about to prepare for a meal. An example of the negative effects of of rent seeking can be found in occupational licenses. While occupational licenses were noted for increasing income by 15% over the free market value of an occupation, they are also charged with inhibiting entrepreneurship (especially among low income workers), raising prices, and lowering productivity . In fact, a 2011 study even indicated that the existence of occupational licenses may be responsible for removing as many 2.85 million jobs from the US economy . In the world of sports there are in most cases a men s version of a sport, and a women s version of a sport, like fastpitch softball and baseball. Softball and baseball are similar sports, both use the same items to do the same job. Each individual player uses a ball, glove, helmet, bat, and cleats to accomplish the goals to play the games of softball and baseball. The goals are to have more runs than the other team at the end of the game. However, these two sports are not exactly alike like many spectators suspect they are.
