The Psychic Medium
The Psychic Medium
There are many types of psychic phenomena that exist. In this paper, I will discuss that of the
psychic medium. The term psychic medium refers to a person thought to have the ability to
communicate with the spirits of the dead or with agents of another world or dimension through
extra sensory perception or paranormal powers. While a medium will always be psychic, a psychic
is not always a medium. The main objective of a mediums work is to prove survival of the
human personality or spirit after death and to help the bereaved come to terms with their loss. The
ability of a psychic medium can have a life saving effect. However, due to the many fraudulent
practitioners trying to scam people out of their money by offering ... Show more content on

It all began when the Greek philosophers got into the habit of questioning nature, raising doubts
about everything. Sacred forms of experience were scorned and disparaged and eventually a
certain kind of science came to dominate our thinking; the old wisdom traditions were forced to
take a back seat.
Of course, it s easy to tote up the pluses of Science, which has freed us from ignorance and
superstition, cleared the way to mastering the forces of nature, extended life and made things
comfortable for the affluent in capitalist societies. On the other hand, according to the official view,
consciousness peeps out momentarily, and is destined to vanish forever after death. Science has
torn down the ancient myths, and made the implausibility of life after death an article of faith.
The effects of these phenomena have a great impact on human society. When a mother loses a
child it is always a tragedy, but when there are a lot of unanswered questions relating to his/her
death, the help of a medium can lead to or bring closure to the family, enabling them to move
forward. Most people mourning the loss of a loved one are in an extremely vulnerable state,
yearning for answers to questions that one can no longer answer. If we could definitively answer
these questions, the human race would be that much stronger.

Learning Disabilities Essay
Learning Disabilities
Eleven year old Anna is outgoing and bright. She attempts to work hard, but her progress in
school has always been slow. She is a year behind her peers, particularly in her English class and
her teachers have slowly begun to reduce their expectations of her. Her parents are worried
because her confidence for learning is decreasing, and there is less motivation for her to do
homework and class assignments. A psychologist found that her intelligence is in the gifted range,
but she has difficulty in making out written symbols. It is easy to make the assumption that Anna
seems merely as a child who is slow intellectually, but when taking a closer look, it shows that she
is just as intelligent but happens to suffer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this mandate, came the difficulty of defining what exactly a learning disability constitutes.
Learning Disabilities generally is viewed as a category in federal legislation referring to disorders
involved in understanding or using language, manifested in imperfect ability to listen, think, speak,
read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations (EBSCO, 2005, p.1). Students with learning
disabilities have average or above average intelligence but suffer from impaired brain functions or
also known as neurological handicaps. This impairment makes it difficult for them to acquire
skills and knowledge accurately and fast enough to keep pace with average academic progress.
Once believed to be rare, learning disabilities are now believed to affect approximately 5 percent
of the population (Encarta, 2003, p.1); many experts believe the percentage to be actually higher.
Learning disabilities do not refer to a single disorder, but to a wider range of problems, which can
include language, memory, attention, and organization; that can affect any area of academic
performance.
Causes of Learning Disorders
...Students with learning disabilities are by far the largest and the fastest growing special needs
group in the American school population (Smith Strick, 1997, p. 11). With this being the case, urgent

The Importance Of The Tourism Industry In Costa Rica
2.3 Tourism Industry
The tourism industry plays a large part in the Costa Rican economy, directly and indirectly.
Because of the biodiversity and conservationist areas, the two coastlines totaling 1290 km, and the
temperate climate, Costa Rica is a frequent destination for eco tourism. 64% of the Costa Rican
labor force is employed in services industry, many of that falling under tourist services, and many
restaurants and hotels located in tourist towns. Of that workforce, 40% is directly employed by the
tourist industry, 39% indirectly, and 21% induced. In 2016, 2.6 million tourists visited Costa Rica,
spending approximately 3.4 billion USD. The combination of direct and indirect contribution of
tourism on the national GDP totaled 17.3 percent.
3.0 Technology
Costa Rica s main technological advancements in the recent years can be placed in three
categories: renewable energy, software developments, and medical devices. These three industries
thrived in Costa Rica for very different reasons
3.1 Renewable Energy
In 2016, 98.1% of the country s electricity was generated from renewable energy sources, such as
hydroelectric, geothermal, wind, and solar power. Because of Costa Rica s pledge to be carbon
neutral by 2021 and the general attitude of Costa Ricans to be eco friendly, a heavy emphasis on
renewable energy research has been present in the country for many years. Since so much of their
identity as a country and their tourism industry is reliant on the country s

Pop Music Post The Electric Bass Research Paper
Pop Music Post the Electric Bass
The first customers of the electric bass were Country and Western musicians, but as Rockabilly
disseminated into various genres in the late 50 s it quickly infiltrated almost every form of music
including Pop, Jazz, Reggae, Blues, and Rock and Roll. In 1958 Dave Myers, Chicago blues
musician and member of the popular band The Aces, switches from guitar to the electric bass.
He is one of the first bluesman to adopt the instrument and popularizes the Fender P Bass in
Chicago s R B scene. Artists like B.B. King, Little Walter, and Big Mama Thornton all make the
switch and utilize the instrument for their bands to combat the rising noise levels in the clubs
and roadhouses. The switch wasn t as smooth for al musicians. In 1957, during the recording of
Jail House Rock, Elvis Presley s bassist Bill Black is said to have launched his P Bass across the

The God of Small Things Book Analysis
The God of Small Things Book Analysis
Character: Esthappen, referred to as Estha, and Rahel are twins. Both are innocent children who are
still learning their manners. When they grow up and separate, Rahel moves to America and gets
married, and Estha leaves to go with Babu, their father who has left them. When he returns to
Ayemenem, Rahel also returns because they have a special bond. Their mother is referred to as
Ammu. She raises her children well with structure. Ammu has an affair with Velutha, an
untouchable, getting her banished from her home. Velutha is a servant in the Ayemenem home,
aand the twins grow to admire him. Mammachi is the twins grandmother; she does not talk much,
but often plays the violin. She is married to Pappachi, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She writes in a sorry tone when describing moments of betrayal and family problems. When writing
about the childhood of the twins, she sounds happier because of their innocence. An example of
irony is that Comrade Pillai is a communist but does not want Velutha to join the revolution just
because he is an untouchable. A revolutionary leader would want all the support he can get, but
because Velutha is inferior, he does not accept him.
Setting amp; Location: The book is mainly set in Ayemenem, India during the 1960s. Most of the
plot occurs in the Ayemenem House, which is also the Paradise Pickles amp; Preserves factory
they own. Another setting includes the movie theatre called Abhilash Talkies in the city of Kerala
when the family goes to watch The Sound of Music. Another setting is in the airport when the
family picks up Sophie Mol and Margaret Kochamma.
Writer s Style: Arundhati Roy s style is very different from others. She writes with great detail and
incorporates deep imagery. She writes in flashbacks to show how the twins childhoods still affect
them as adults. She begins with the family s lives when they are older, and go back to when the
twins were children. This helps readers know what happens to the family before finding out about
the events that occur in between.
Symbols: Pappachi s moth symbolizes fear. It is first mentioned in chapter 2 when Pappachi
discovers a new moth species, but does not claim that he discovered it.

The Role Of Superheroes In The Film Guardians Of The Galaxy
What is a superhero? Some would argue that a superhero is a benevolent fictional character with
superhuman powers, such as Superman. Although this definition holds some truths, there is so
much more when delving into what a superhero actually is. Superhero s are people that make
immense sacrifices, take extraordinary risks, and take the initiative to help make a society a better
place for the greater good. Guardians of the Galaxy, a film produced by James Gunn, did a fantastic
job at accurately portraying the true meaning and expectations of our superheroes, all while
maintaining a fun and enjoyable film above the deeper meanings.

end up saving a planet from total destruction, not because of their own ambitions, but because they
felt and understood that it was the right thing to do. In the process of saving a planet, each hero
reveals the traits listed above, especially Groot the least expected Hero. In the film, there is a scene
where the Guardians are in a ship that is about to crash and Groot sacrifices himself by forming a
cocoon around each member protecting them from the ship impact with the ground. This is the
ultimate sacrifice that any superhero can display. Another interesting thing about Groot is that he is
only Superhero in the film that has

The Social Construction Of Heterosexuality

How you feel isn t what you are This is a argumentative essay against the notions of gender roles
portrayed by masculine and feminine traits, from section four of Composing Gender How Do We
Define Sexuality ? The idea that one individual can feel masculine or feel feminine does not make
them a male or female. Throughout Composing Gender, many readings refer to sexuality as an
inevitable part of gender construction, several authors use the terms heteronormative and
compulsory heterosexuality to describe a social structure in which the expression of sexuality is
seen as normal only. (Groner, 2014, par.3 p. 184) Your gender is... Show more content on

209) The use of the word faggot is the worst epithet anyone could call you as a male or female.
This is the assumption that you are not meeting the un stated facts of masculinity, causing you to
seem weaker, revealing more feminine traits. Bringing on the assumption that you are in fact
gay or lesbian or even bi. It is also said within this passage that most boys call others faggots as a
joke but won t call anyone a fag if there is a homosexual around (Pascoe, 2011, p. 212 213).
Though overall no one is claimed a faggot at all, the only thing that these children used to
determine who was or wasn t a fag was their clothes how they took care of themselves and other
things. Pascoe seems that the term faggot is more of a way for kids to put up a wall against
homophobia, and create some type of borders against male sexuality. Going back to my thesis,
these adolescent boys already know the difference between a gay and straight boy. They can tell
when one is being very prominent about his sexuality as stated above, so they won t call them a
fag. These boys are natural, and practice heteronormativity to prove they are not unnatural or
heterosexual. In order to fit in with the rest of their school and to prevent being called a faggot. In

Judaism Vs. Christianity And Judaism

Judaism vs. Christianity Christianity and Judaism are two religions that have similarities as well as
differences. I plan to explore beliefs, religious ceremonies, and religious authorities in both
Christianity and Judaism. Judaism originates from the time of Abraham and God made a covenant
with Abraham promising him to make his ancestry a sacred people and provide them with a holy
land. Meanwhile, Christianity derives from Jesus Christ with whom the disciples were called
Christians because of their way of living which was the way of Jesus Christ. Although both Judaism
and Christians believe in God which they call Jehovah, Christians believe in the Father, ... Show

For example; people that worship demonic spirits and do devilish acts are considered demonic
spirits. On the other hand, angels are holy ones that do and have Godly actions. It is known that
Christians and Judaism have their agreements and disagreements. Christians believe that
salvation come by faith and baptismal (emerged under water in Jesus Name), Jews believe that
salvation comes from good deeds and believing in God. Both religions believe that heaven and
hell does exist, although Christians believe that Jesus Christ died for us so that we may have
eternal life. The Jews focus on the Torah which speaks of a life following this one. Judaism
believe that there is a physical place called Sheol where the individual goes down after this life.
Earlier I mentioned the process of Christians baptismal and Judaism belief in good deeds. These
are one of each religions religious ceremonies. Considering the Christian belief, they are firm
believers that you must be born again. One of the theologies of the Christians and Judaism, is the
ceremony of circumcision. Although Christians ceremonies consist of Baptismal, Holy
Communion, Marriage, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick, just to name a few, prayer is a very
important part of the faith. It is said in the bible in I Corinthians 7:19, For neither circumcision
counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but keeping Gods commandments.

The Political Compass
Politics is intricate and complex, not black or white, therefore deciding where one stands isn t as
simple as being either liberal or conservative . Thus, a more three dimensional approach was
created: The Political Compass. This multifaceted analysis includes not only the traditional
economic stance but a social stance as well. Although someone claims they re a liberal, they might
tend towards communism. With the traditional left or right scale, it would be impossible to know
that; The Political Compass, however, has a dimension for fascism and anarchism along with
communism and neo liberalismwhich would indicate both the economic scale (communism) and
social scale (libertarian). It is also a more accurate way to determine where certain politicians lie.
Take Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany. She s a moderate neo liberalist who is neither full
fascist or anarchist. By understanding her policies and background and comparing her to others on
the Political Compass, one can see that this is, in fact, true.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The CDU is a liberal conservative party and those apart of it tend to be center right on the
traditional left right scale. According to The Political Compass, Merkel is pulled more towards
neo liberalism, which means that she supports a free market. The CDU implemented Germany s
Social Market Economy, an economy that doesn t want the government to have complete control
over prices. This shows that Merkel is indeed a more neo liberalist than communist. However,
Germany s current economy still has regulations in place that prevent the market from being
wholly free, which is why Merkel cannot be classified as a full neo liberalist. She also grew up in
East Germany, the section of Germany that was a proponent of communism and was a part of the
Free German youth, a communist organization. In the writer s opinion, this proves that Merkel is

Literary Analysis Of Randall Jarrell
Almost as important as the content, is the form an author chooses to express their stories. From
poetry to novels, writing form helps shape a reader s experience. The Death of the Ball Turret
Gunner , is the perfect example of how a poem s form reinforces its content. The author, Randall
Jarrell, leaves much to the readers imagination. Jarrell is descriptive and vague at the same time.
This style is no accident and helps convey more to the readers than the surface level of the text.
Making the readers think and question the truth behind any war and telling a story people aren t
used to reading. 1
In class, we ve discussed Kate McLoughlin s ideas for how to write the best war literature. Kate
McLoughlin helped write and edit The Cambridge Companion to War Writing. In her writing,
McLoughlin discusses the difficulties of war literature, and how words can t capture the true
complexity of war. McLoughlin describes war as a massive and complex phenomenon and goes
on to say literature of any type cannot accurately capture war. This is especially true of war on a
global scale that spans years. To solve this problem, McLoughlin suggests that writing less and
leaving certain aspects to the reader s imagination can be beneficial. 2 Randall Jarrell s style
seems in line with McLoughlin s views on how to write proper war literature. This lack of detail is
what made his poem, one of the more compelling readings so far. Leaving the reader to imagine
what the gunner is experiencing

The various aspects when considering movement skill development include body control and
awareness, technique, timing, anticipation and object manipulation. Body control is the ability to

awareness refers to the awareness and how conscious an individual is when performing an action.
An element that can be claimed as the most important component involved in skill development is

to maintain that strong grip and have successful baton changes is extremely important. Although, if
the baton is dropped at any time due to lack of object control, the team is not disqualified and can

Character Of Satan
Satan as portrayed by John Milton is a very different kind of a character. Abercrombie remarks
Paradise Lost exists for one figure that is Satan . He is also the most important character of the

words tactfully which helps know his personality. When we hear the word, Satan, we immediately

respectable person, which is quite evident through his speeches. Satan s character is multifaceted

Around 2000 BC, Cushitic speaking people from northern Africa settled in the part of East Africa

These hybrid grape wines are usually described as foxy and reminiscent to a wet dog which is not
the quality customers look out for . Not to mention the fact that they are also quite inferior as
compared to the vinifera wines which led to many european nations banning hybrid grape variety
wines .
There are however exceptions and until recently Canada was popularly known as the home to
hybrid grape varieties because they could stand harsh winters which is common in that country.
Therefore Canadian winegrowers focused on hardy, native North American or hybrid
varieties. Some of Canada s wine growing areas (especially the north of the Okanagan Valley, the
Niagara region , Nova Scotia and places in Quebec) often still grow hybrids, as they can survive
whereas vinifera varieties simply die.
The white grape hybrid Vidal is used to create a wide variety of commonly drunk icewine in
Niagara, as its thick skin permits it to remain intact at freezing temperatures as opposed to its
vinifera cousins. Many of the Canadian wineries also make wines from red hybrid grapes, both
as a varietal wine and blended with vinifera varieties: Marechal Foch (often just called Foch),
Baco Noir and Leon Millot are most common. Several wineries in the United States also use many
of these grapes, typically in in wine regions that, like those in Canada, struggle to grow vinifera
due to harsh and brutal winters. The white hybrid Seyval Blanc is common in New

The Hypothesis Or Premise Of God
The hypothesis or premise of The 10 Most Common Objections to Christianity, by Alex
McFarland, is to worship and glorify the reason behind our Faith. The Bible teaches that Truth is
related to the character of God, which means it is eternal and unchanging. It does not have an
expiration date, and neither does it go out of style. The problem is that not everyone believes God
exists or accepts the Bibleas the ultimate authority. In the foundations of the Faith, Truth must be
established as an absolute.
This book shows how to respond theologically, reasonably, and practically to the most frequent
objections to Christianity today: Objection one...God is Not Real Logically, atheism and
agnosticism do not make sense. Atheism needs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the theory of evolution incorrectly argues that those alterations can result in the creation
of new species. It also mistakenly upholds that life itself could have randomly evolved from a
nonliving substance. The statistical probability of life originating by chance is minimal at best,
making that notion illogical.
Objection three...The Bible is Not Completely Authentic Many more prehistoric copies and parts
of the Bible have been discovered than those of any other prehistoric texts. Therefore, the
biblical texts have been established as genuine by historians. Most biblical documentation was
recorded just a brief time after they actually took place, compared to the enormous time gap of
centuries that existed with most other prehistoric texts. When an abundance of biblical texts are
inspected and analyzed, they are verified to be reliable. Objection four... The Bible is not
Completely Accurate The Bible contains complex passages that can be hard to comprehend.
However, a verified mistake, convincingly, has never been discovered in all of Scripture. All 66
books of the Bible are the inspired, inerrant, and perfect Word of God. Remember that, while the
New Testament was not formally assembled until the Council of Nicea in 327 A.D., the early
Church previously recognized the same 27 New Testament books more than 200 years before then.

The Importance Of The Fair Trade Movement
The movement I chose to research was the Fair Trade Movement. The main goal of the Fair
Trade Movement is to provide support to allow workers and farmers in local communities to not
get overshadowed or taken advantage of by large corporations and be provided with sustainable
and reasonable working conditions. Fairtrade is important as it is used to help improve the lives
and communities of producers that are small scale. Furthermore, Fairtrade is more than just trading
goods It highlights the need for change in the rules and practice of conventional trade and shows
how a successful business can also put people first. It is a tangible contribution to the fight against
poverty, climate change and economic crisis (World Fair TradeOrganization).
The key values of the Fairtrade movement include five values that the Fair Trade Movement are
committed to which are: People First, Excellence, Integrity, Respect, and Passion (Fair Trade
Canada). In terms of people, the Fairtrade movement focuses their goal around promoting and

Examples Of Funny Memories With Anton
Funny memories with Anton (True Story)
By Richard Nata
My best friend named Antonius, we used to call him by the name of Anton. Anton, I ll always
remember funny stories with you.
No day without laughing while studying together Anton. We both had some physical similarity,
namely Chinese, handsome, thin, short, bespectacled and love to make people laugh. We fell
together because there was an oil spill on the road so that the motorcycle was driven Anton fell on
the road. When falling, we feel like the riders are being dropped in circuit racing. Our downfall on
the road no less intense with the fall of Valentino Rossion the racing circuit. People shout to see us
fall.
They ran away to our place. We wake up and said, It s okay, everything... Show more content on

So, we went home before the game ended.
The next day, Anton told me, yesterday really happen real fights between the participants of the
game. I really regret not being able to see a real fight. I can only imagine the fight was like a story
in the movie The Karate Kid.
When did I ask how the end results? Anton tells if they won the game. But after the game is
finished, then their Dojo fight with others Dojo elsewhere.
The question now is if I and Anton still there, whether both of us will be beaten like in the movie
The Karate Kid? Due to the shots of the two of us which caused the match to be the hot
atmosphere. I also do not know the answer. :)
There are still a lot of stories about me and Anton is not told here due to the limited number of
words. To date I will never forget has had a friend named Antonius because we have experienced no
day without laughing while still in college with him.
Anton now lives and works in Sydney, Australia. While I lived in Tangerang, Indonesia.

A Comparison of Vistor Frankenstein and Henry Jekyll Essay
A Comparison of Vistor Frankenstein and Henry Jekyll
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Robert Louis Stevenson s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are two
horrific tales of science gone terribly wrong. Shelley?s novel eloquently tells the story of a
scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who creates a living monster out of decomposed body parts, while
Stevenson?s novel describes the account of one, Henry Jekyll, who creates a potion to bring out the
pure evil side to himself. Although the two scientists differ in their initial response and action to
their creations, there are strong similarities between their raging curiosity to surpass human
limitation, as well as their lack of responsibility concerning their actions. These similarities raise an

(Stevenson 107). Here, Henry Jekyll displays his awe and wonder of his new discovery. He feels
a sense of power and overwhelming wickedness. From the quotation, it seems appropriate to
conjecture that Dr. Jekyll was enthusiastic about testing out his ?new creation,? as if he were a
child and it a toy.
Here, is another difference between the two doctors. Dr. Frankenstein(after realizing what he has
done) halts all of his experiments and does away with his laboratory anything to get his mind of
his terrible creation. He travels around, always watching his back expecting his creature to be
there. Dr. Frankenstein has many qualities of the classic Byronic hero; a character that shows
romanticized sorrow and pity for himself. ? . . . I am a blasted tree,? he says, ?the bolt has
entered my soul; and I felt then that I should survive to exhibit what I shall soon cease to be a
miserable spectacle of wrecked humanity, pitiable to others and intolerable to myself? (Shelley
153). In this quotation, he shows romanticized self pity and remorse for what he has created.
Victor calls himself a ?miserable spectacle of wrecked humanity.? By this he feels his life is over;
he can no long face the world a decent man.
Dr. Jekyll, on the other hand, like a child, is thrilled with his new discovery and wishes to tamper

Homeowner Fire Safety
Any homeowner with a decent amount of land can enjoy the pleasures of their very own fire pit
by merely acquiring the right materials and tools to complete this project. A shovel, steel rake,
tape measure, level, and spray paint are the are the required tools. The homeowner should decide
on the material he or she wants for the barrier. This includes cast concrete stones, bricks, or a metal
ring. With careful consideration of the firecode in the ordinance, a safe spot is picked. The spot
must be at least twenty feet away from any buildings or structures for the safetyof the homeowner

A typical fire pit is thirty six to fifty eight inches in diameter. The homeowner must decide on a
size most suitable to their liking. A circle will be sprayed around the perimeter of the desired
diameter. He or she must then dig a hole six to twelve inches deep, within the circle, being careful
not to puncture any unknown utility lines. The homeowner must then pour either sand or gravel
into the hole, leveling afterward. The next step is building the fire barrier, consisting of either cast
concrete stones, bricks, or a metal ring. The homeowner stacks the desired building material,
around the perimeter of the hole. He or she can leave a half inch gap between the bricks or
stones to help aerate the fire. The barrier must be at least one foot above the surrounding area.
Once stacked, additional sand or gravel is poured into the hole, covering at least halfway up the

The Crusades Essay
In 1095, at the Council of Clermont, Pope Urban II began a striking expedition to Jerusalem in
order to release the city from Muslim control. His moving campaign and the promise of an immense
reward was inspirational to the many willing participants. One must essentially understand that the
leaders of these crusadesconnected almost every accomplishment to the works of God, and felt a
huge moral obligation to take back what once belonged to Him. The extent of the crusades shows
the deep devotion that most of Western Europehad towards Christianity and the desire to rid the
world of unnecessary evils.
During the Middle Ages, heresy was one of the prime issues that affected the solidarity of the

The general consensus of the Western European societies classified their enemies as anyone who
differed even slightly from the Catholic beliefs. Their society appears to be a very strict and
conformal atmosphere in which autonomy did not play much of a role. As such, in regards to the
sentencing of the Count of Toulouse the writings on the crusades contain much information that
points to the choice of conversion or condemnation. Eternal damnation was believed to be the
result of a person who did not show repentance or debarred heresy, and shows no devotion to the
cause of reconciliation.
Even though the principal language used throughout the crusades was Latin, the context of it was
used in a multitude of ways. The broad applicability of Latin was used because it was the official
language of the Roman church. The Church was the main source of education and therefore created
a web of writings, textbooks, and biblical translations which allowed much of Europe and Asia
Minor to understand the message of Western Christianity. The direct meaning of the word crusade
was taking the cross though this period was not named as such until later in the sixteenth century.
The soldiers of the Crusades apperceived that the idea of taking one s cross meant to follow Christ,
which allowed for such substantial influence

Wuthering Heights Thesis
At the center of Wuthering Heights lies a tragic vision of decay and detachment which depends
completely on the severances Emily Bronte has created between characters, estates, and social
statuses. Bronte reveals societal flaws that had never before been recognized during her time and
creates a raw vision of Victorian life; one in which the differences between characters and their
social standings outweigh their true beliefs and desires when it comes to who they choose to be,
who they choose to surround themselves with, and how they choose to treat those around them. In
its most distinct form, Wuthering Heightsis a love story that chronicles the lives of Catherine

Bronte illustrates the Heights as having a very blunt and intimidating appearance. It is a very
strong and prominent structure, however it proves to be a very desolate and lonely place.
Likewise, those who inhabit it prove to be somewhat tormented souls. Nelly describes Heathcliff
after his subjection to the Heights without Catherine, A half civilized ferocity lurked yet in the
depressed brows and eyes full of black fire, but it was subdued; and his manner was even dignified:
quite divested of roughness, though too stern for grace (Bronte, 95). Just a few miles away, the
Grange represents sanity and sensibility with its refinement and pleasant appearance. The civility of
its inhabitants, the Lintons, and their distinguished status stand in stark contrast to the more
disturbed Wuthering Heights. Bronte takes great care to create these images of the two estates for
readers because it is what they stand for that drives Catherine and Heathcliff apart in the first place.
Ironically, Bronte also uses setting to reunite Catherine and Heathcliff. The moors that separate the
two estates represent a sort of heaven for the two, where they used to lose themselves when they
were young, the only place either of the two ever truly felt they belonged. It is here that the two
roam together in the afterlife.
As previously discussed, Bronte is fully aware of the division between

Analysis Of The Twilight Saga
The Cullen Family: More than just Blood Sucking Vampires
The Twilight Saga, by Stephanie Meyer, has been viewed as a narrative of either teenage lust or
romantic love characterized by Bella, a private seventeen year old girl, and Edward, a
mysterious vampire who goes to Bella s high school; Yet no one has credited the Cullen s in the
full light they deserve, in the way that they display family loyalty, self control, and altruism
among their family of vampires. The book series infatuated the hearts of teenage girls across the
world, and even expanded upon those horizons to reach an audience so wide that the book series
became a household name. Critics have endlessly discussed the love, or lust, of the two individuals
and are fascinated by the fact that the TwilightSaga falls not just in the genre of romance, but also
in the supernatural/ horror category. Maple, in an article that discusses this barrier breaking love
that Bella and Edward display, states throughout the story Bella and Edward share an unorthodox
relationship, a love above and beyond all others: something more expressive of eternal
commitment (Maple). Maple emphasizes how deep and rare the love between the two adolescents
is, and I would argue that human s innate desire for this kind of love is one of the main reasons
why Twilight became so widespread. However, another basis for the obsession of the books is
simply because The Cullen s, the family in which Edward belongs to, represent vampires in a

Data mining is the extraction of knowledge from the various databases that was previously

How Business Intelligence Systems are used Business intelligence systems are the combination of
operational data and analytical tools to aid managers to comprehend the capabilities available in the
firm, the industrial trends, future development in technologies and the market and even their
competitor s actions and the resulting implications (Wang, 2014, p. 1083). There are many ways
managers can use the information a business intelligence system gives them such as understand
customer behavior, analyzing competition understanding investment options, and knowledge

Customer Behavior The market place, even at a local level, is more competitive then it has been at

The War Room Analysis
D. A. Pennebaker s The War Room is a film about the figures behind the scenes of a political
campaign. Given a subject that historically lends itself to drama and narrative tension, Pennebaker
makes active choices in filming and editing to find the story within the story. The film becomes a
sort of meta art: a media narrative about the people responsible for controlling media narratives.
Pennebaker approaches the film as an appreciation of fellow craftsmen, giving credit to James
Carvilleand George Stephanopoulostactical brilliance. Through the use of carefully thought out
editing, intentional camerawork, and intimate access, The War Roomlays bare the hidden layers of
communication present within the campaign.
The War Room is about communication, and the editing choices help to weave together the often
invisible lines of contact present in politics. In one instance, Pennebaker films both sides of a
telephone conversation between Carville and Stephanopoulos. While the clips may not even come
from the same conversation, the evidentiary editing immediately opens up the world of the movie.
The audience no longer cares solely about the room in front of them, but is also curious about the
important action in other conference rooms, happening just a phone call away. Pennebaker also
highlights the contrast between the public and private spheres of communication. In particular,
there s a political need to project a certain cohesiveness, regardless of internal discord. The War
Room depicts many meetings where the strategists are bogged down in minutiae, debating word
choice and the colors of rally signs. Pennebaker artfully contrasts these scenes with the final media
output. When the film cuts to the end of the rally, the audience sees the balloons fall in conjunction
with Fleetwood Mac, Bill s face on a giant monitor, and a crowd full of coordinated signs.
Presented by itself, the rally feels seamless and natural; the crowd has an organic and infectious
enthusiasm. The inclusion of the tedious conference room discussions shows the intentionality
behind the rally. The crowd shots, normally the public focus, begin to feel impersonal and fade into
the background. The audience cares more about how the rally will affect

It is true that both John and Mary fall in love and enter symbiotic relationship. However, just
because the reader gets a cookie cutter happy ending that doesn t necessarily mean that it is the
best ending. For instance, story A, the happy ending, is very short compared to the other stories. It
dose not give the reader enough time to form a connection to the characters before they die. While
on the other hand, story B, the sadder ending, is much longer and gives the reader a connection to
the character Mary.
Story B is the sadder ending and focuses more on Mary. The relationship between Mary and
John is far from happy. Mary does absolutely everything for John. Mary cooks, cleans, and even
lets john have his way with her. John doesn t even acknowledge all the sacrifice that Mary puts
into their relationship. Not only dose John show no affection towards Mary, He gives it all his

The development of the plot stands out as one of the most crucial elements of the story. From the
very beginning, the narrator discovers that Sonny has been arrested for his drug use. This action
engenders the narrator to reflect on his relationship with Sonny. The discovery of Sonny s arrest
quickly conveys to us a point that is so central to the story. Following the introduction of plot is the
conflict. The conflict of the story centers around the narrator and Sonny arguing about Sonny s
decision to become a jazz musician. This conflict, however, has happened before the situation in the
introduction of the story but is mentioned further in the story. Sonny s desire to become a jazz
player is seen as a waste of time by the narrator. Consequently, tension is formed between the
brothers because of their lack of agreement on the issue. The tension between the brothers gets even
more complicated when Sonny moves into the narrator s apartment. During this part of the story,
the narrator and Sonny try to come to terms with themselves and each other. The climax of the story

Gender Roles In Oscar Wilde s The Importance Of Being Earnest
Oscar Wilde was an Irish poet born in October 1854. In 1871, Wilde enrolled at Trinity College in
Dublin. The years from 1874 1878 were spent at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he received a
first class degree in Classics and the Newdigate Prize for poetry with his poetry submission of
Ravenna. (Bloom 11). Wilde was married to a daughter of a wealthy Irish barrister in 1884, and
had two sons in the following years. (Bloom 11). Before he died in November 1900, he wrote
several plays, including The Importance of Being Earnest. There are several themes placed
throughout Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest, such as: gender roles, loveand marriage, and
society v. hypocrisy. Gender roles are an important theme placed in The Importance of Being
Earnest. The feminist movement has already been in full swing. Women already moved in the
path of education. With the considerable level of education, women have already started toward
the direction of freedom. (Bachelor and Master). In the play, Cecily has a governess hired by
Mr. John Worthing educating her to become more successful on her own. Wilde presented Lady
Bracknell talking about the position of men. She says, in her talk with Gwendolen house is the
proper place for man. . . . This bit of conversation reveals women have also begun to move freely
in the occupational world. (Bachelor and Master). Prism is used by Wilde, in the play, as an
awakened woman who serves as a governess to Cecily, who writes novels. Wilde averted to see
the limitations of the feminist movement. Feministically awakened and educated women to cling
to more job of governess. (Bachelor and Master). Miss Prism is used as a symbol of feminism
used by Wilde in The Importance of Being Earnest to show that women were on the move in life
advancements. In the play, Cecily and Gwendolen discuss changing their gender roles in their
conversation about male domesticity, indicating that their belief that homes seems to be the proper
sphere for the man. Marriage, however, remained most women s primary goal and occupation.
Arranged marriages had been on the decline since the late eighteenth century, but were not

same in all computers and continue to serve the same purpose is the World Wide Web
, more
commonly referred to as the Web or the web. Similar to the development of computers, the World
Wide Web was not created overnight, but took time, effort, and brainpower to invent. We can credit
this fascinating invention that connects everyone in the world to British physicist and computer
scientist Sir Tim Berners Lee. Sir Tim Berners Lee was born on June 8, 1955 in London, England
to Mary Lee Wood and Conway Berners Lee. Mary Lee and Conway met while they were both
working on the first commercially built computer, the Ferranti Mark 1. As a boy, Sir Berners Lee
was an avid train spotter and developed a knowing for train and railway parts by tinkering with
small toys. His fascination with mechanical and technical objects throughout the early part of his
life lead him to study at The Queens College, Oxford, graduating in 1976 to

Obergefell V Hodges Pros And Cons
In The Gay Marriage Case, Obergefell v Hodges, the United States Supreme Court decided that a
state may not prohibit same sex marriage. Instead, it emphasized that the fundamental right to
marry is guaranteed to the gay society through the Due Process Clause of the 14th amendment of
the United States of America Constitution. The involved decision maker in the case was Justice
Anthony Kennedy, who gave four primary reasons for his decision. Despite the numerous criticisms
about the decision, the idea of giving the fundamental rights to marriageto the same sex couples
stands out to be a positive decision. According to Justice Kennedy, human dignity clarifies the idea

recognition of the SSM. In summary of these, the Obergefell V Hodges has received opposition
as well as propositions at different degrees, but the majority of the debaters are the proposing side.
The main idea here was to legalize the Same sex marriage which had been prohibited in the
previous court rulings (Siegel, 2015). The proposing team was emphasizing on the following
factors; the right to personal choices as clarified in the human dignity, the right to intimate
association, marriage as a foundation of the American social order and the ability to sustain and
safeguard children and families (Siegel, 2015). Against this factors are; Chief Justice John Roberts

Nathaniel Hawthorne Influences
Nathaniel Hawthorne, the famous author, was born in Salem on July 4th, 1804. He was the great
great grandson of the Salem Witch Trials judge John Hathorne. Hawthorne was clearly appalled by
the relation to his ancestor which lead to him adding the W to his last name to be no longer
associated with his great great grandfather.
Hawthorne grew up in Salem but spent most of his time in Raymond, Maine because his mother
owned a house there. Nathaniel Hawthorne died of natural causes during a trip to the White
Mountains with Franklin Pierce on May 19, 1864. Hawthorne died at the ripe age of fifty nine
years old from 1804 1864. One of Hawthorne most impactful experiences growing up was when

This change was something he agreed with because Hawthorne wasn t very upcoming in
religious stances. That was made very clear when he parted from his long long line of puritan
family members. Hawthorne decided to become a novelist which he very much so lived up to
because now he is famous for many incredible novels. Sadly some of his family did not support
his decision although most did. He always felt like he let them down Hawthorne stated that himself
in the first few pages of his book the Scarlet Letter
the old trunk of the family tree, with so much venerable moss upon it, should have borne, as its
topmost bough, an idler like myself. No aim that I have ever cherished, would they recognize as
laudable; no success of mine if my life, beyond its domestic scope, had ever been brightened by
success would they deem otherwise than worthless, if not positively disgraceful. Even though
many were against his decision to become a writer was life changing for him. The fact that many
were against him pushed Hawthorne to beat the odds and prove how great he was at writing
novels so great that millions of people took the time to read his amazing works of

The Idea of Li and Governing Essay
Li, or rites, has played an integral part in shaping early Chinese philosophy, though not all
philosophers have agreed on its meaning or reason for application. Some will argue that human
nature requires us to us Li to be ethical beings, while others believe that Li will teach and mold us
into beings that will follow the norms of our society. The three major Confucian philosophers
whom used the idea of Li to shape their theories were Confucius, Mencius, and Xunzi. All three of
these philosophers used Li to shape their ideal government, but it was Xunzi who would have the
most applicable form of an ideal government. Confucius was alive and teaching during the Spring
and Autumn period. The power of the Zhou king was on the decline and the... Show more content

Looking back at the social norm of a man holding a door open, even though there is no direct
punishment for not holding the door open, a man will naturally feel a sense of shame when not
adhering to the social ritual that is ascribed to a man. He wanted men to do the right thing not
out of fear, but out of shame. This would lead the common folk to follow the Li and become
gentlemen in their own right. There would be no chaos due to lack of basic needs because the
everyone in the society was fulfilling their personal role, whether it be to provide food or
provide governance. Confucius also put a large emphasis on the Zhou kings of the past, calling
them sage kings and praising their ability to keep order through promoting Li to their subjects,
which caused peace and security to their fellow man (The Analects, 22). Mencius, a stark follower
of Confucius s teachings, viewed Li in a different light. Living in the time called the Warring State
Period, Mencius saw the discourse and chaos that Confucius had worked hard to fight against.
While rulers fought amongst themselves for power, Mencius sought to find what was the cause of
this chaos and what could alleviate it. Mencius had a nearly identical description of Li as
Confucius, yet his Li was largely tied in with human nature and the internal struggle to be a moral
person. Li was just one of the

My Wish By Rascal Flatts And I Hope You Dance
Success and happiness is something everyone should want in their life. I m sure most people are
familiar with the songs My wish by Rascal Flatts and I hope you dance by Lee Ann Womack.
Both of these songs are saying to give confidence and never give up on the the things you love. I
Hope You Dance and My Wish are very alike in a sense that they are both about going somewhere
in life and being happy, but there are a few differences that are hard to recognize.
My Wish is a song recorded by Rascal Flatts, written by Jeffery Steele and Steve Robson. The
song was written for one of Steele s four daughters. What I m getting out of this song, and what I
believe many others do too is to live every minute like it s your last. I hope the days come easy
and the moments pass slow the very first line is about someone who s going somewhere in life.
And each road leads you where you want to go, (line 2) This is saying that hopefully the path
you re taking in life is the one you want to fulfill. And if you re faced with a choice and you have
to choose, I hope you choose the one that means the most to you (line 3 4) What Steele is saying
that if one has to make a choice, it should be the best choice for that person, not what someone else
wants you to do.
Your dreams stay big and your worries stay small (line 1, verse 2) Steele is saying to keep your
goals in mind, work towards them and don t let your worries get in the way. The next line You

First Amendment Rights In Schools
Students don t have the same First Amendment rights they have in the public compared to school.
Four major cases were brought to the Supreme Court concerning students First Amendment, Tinker

respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition
the government for a redress of grievances. Only one ruled in favor of the student that being the

I agree with the decision of Tinker because the protest did not interrupt the teachings of the
school. The the majority opinion agrees that if the students First Amendment does not interrupt
the teachings of the school, it s okay. The dissenting opinion by Hugo Black says The truth is
that a teacher of kindergarten, grammar school , or high school pupils no more carries into a
school with him a complete right to freedom of speech and expression that an anti Catholic or
anti Semite carries with him a complete freedom of speech and religion into a Catholic church
or Jewish synagogue . This argument doesn t work because both a place of religion and school
have different purposes. An anti Catholic would interpret the teachings of a Catholic church.
While all that Tinker did was wear a black armband that caused no disturbance in the teachings of
the school. The ruling for Bethel v. Fraser is correct because Frasers use of sexual innuendo was
to a crowd who was unaware. The court ruled, saying A high school assembly or classroom is no
place for a sexually explicit monologue directed towards an unsuspecting audience of teenage
students . I agree with the decision since the audience were not aware of what was going to
happen as. Around 600 14 year olds were present for the speech.

Essay on Managing Organizational Change
In this dynamic business environment, change is inevitable. Changes can be planned, or
unintentional: depending on the driving forces behind. The major forces for change can be derived
from the nature of the workforce, technology, economic shocks, competition, social trends, and
world politics (Robbins Judge, 2011). In this post the author will explain the Kotter s eight step
approaches to managing organizational change and discuss how his company handles the planned
changes in term of organization reconstruction.
When changes are inevitable, the leaders usually design some adequate steps to make the change go
smooth, effective and permanently. Kurt Lewin argued that successful change in organizations
should follow three steps: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recent economic recession and federal budget cut has significantly impacted SAIC s core business
and affected its revenue and growth. Its stock price fell 25% since last September because the
shareholders were disappointed with the operation and worried about the future revenue growth and
earning. The SAIC management realized that the market has changed; the company s strategy and
focus have to change accordingly. The leadership established a sense of urgency by creating a
compelling reason for why changes are needed (stage 1). In July 2009, the board of directors hired a
new CEO, Walt Havenstein, to carry out the change process. In the summer of 2010, Hevenstein
(the change agent), made a strategy based change in the corporate leadership structure and
personnel (Stage 2). The new strategies had been formulated: to provide mission oriented solutions
for national security, energy, health and other major enterprises serving critical infrastructure needs.
The company planned to shift its customer based structure to market reoriented structure, and shift
resources to focus on high growth areas (Havenstein, July 22, 2010). The current organization
structures is under regrouping (four groups to three); some units is being dismantled; duplicated
departments is being eliminated (Stage 3). In October, 2010, Hevenstein wrote a letter to all SAIC
employees stating that SAIC s

The Integration Of Emotional Intelligence Into Healthcare
The Integration of Emotional Intelligence into Healthcare Throughout today s healthcare industry,
many organizations have been constantly striving to stay ahead of the competition. One area of
focus has been improvement of the organization s leaders. In order to create a strong organizational
culture and successful healthcare system, effective leadershipis needed. It is thought that one major
characteristic that aids in the effectiveness of many leaders is the ability to utilize their emotional
intelligence. This paper will discuss the development and background of emotional intelligence, its
importance and function within the nursing industry, the integration into one s own practice, as
well as the role it has played in regards to personal growth.
Development and Background The theory of emotional intelligence was first introduced in 1990
by John Mayer and Peter Salovey. They developed various ways to measure emotional
intelligence abilities, if it improved with age, and if emotional intelligence abilities formed a
unified intelligence (Mayer, 2009). Mayer and Salovey found that if all criteria were met, than it
was said to be a true intelligence. As described by Mayer (2009), emotional intelligence can be
defined as one s capability to reason about emotions and emotional information, and of emotions to
enhance thought. Those with high emotional intelligence can accurately perceive emotions in other
s faces. They also know how to use specific emotional times within

A Powerful Family And A Corruptive Society
A Powerful Family and A Corruptive Society
The Montana 1948 describes the twelve years old boy David, who witnesses the family tragedy
that involves murder, sexual assault, and racism during the summer of 1948. The Native
American Marie was killed by David s uncle Frank, who is the popular and well known doctor in
Bentrock. In order to cover up Frank s crime, David s father Wesley suffered both external and
internal pressure from the power of grandpa Julian, the justice system, and the name of Hayden.
Although Wesley works so hard to collect evidence against his brother Frank, Frank chooses to die
rather than to convince his guilt. Given too much power in the hand, the Hayden family is blind to
the laws and tend to manipulate the society. Thus, in order to preserve the fame of the Hayden
family, the Hayden abuses too much power and ignores the laws and justice, which leads the society
to the destruction.
The purpose of obtaining power is not for benefit townpeople as whole rather than to gain
domination in the society without practicing any laws. For grandpa Hayden, he had the ambition to
control others behaviors and he wanted, he needed, power пј€8)to make himself superior to others.
It is a common phenomenon that racism is one of prevailing trend in the society of 1948. Grandpa
Julian represents one of the typical examples that shows his extreme disdain and prejudice toward
the Native Americans, who are treated poorly and badly at that time. Although grandpa had an idea

Gender Socialization Is The Process Of Learning The Social
Gender socialization is the process of learning the social prospects and behaviors connected with
one s sex. According to gender socialization there are so many reasons why males and females
act in different ways: they learn different social roles. For example, girls learn to do different
household chores such as: how to cook, how to clean, how to do sweep, how to take care of
family etc and boys learn to work outside, how to earn money, how to rule the world etc. The effect
of family, school, media, society, interaction between two people are the reasons of gender
socialization. Sometimes gender roles lead to inequality such as according to, We should all be

There are so many different ways in our society by which people express their expectation about
a boy or a girl. For example, when a baby comes into the world he or she has to face either Blue
or Pink reality. All around the world we can see that, babies are differentiated by the color, pink
stuffs for a girl and blue for a boy. When they grow up, they start act like a male or female
because they receive the message from society about their identity and act accordingly. That is
how society constructs gender. Gender plays an important role in our society and society
expects different type of behaviors according to men and woman. Gender socialization teaches

their hands flapping in the air. Every year, since we moved from Charlotte to DC, we visit them.
My sister Anna is two years older than me and went to play group with Mike and Nick., For me
it s a little tough fitting in with the older kids. For me to truly participate in the games, I have to

It may seem odd, but we spend a lot of time in our bedroom. When you walk into that room, there
are two sets of bunk beds, and clothes cover the floor. Anna and Michael always claim the top
bunks, and Nick and I each have a bottom. Almost immediately after we arrive, Michael suggests
his favorite game. This consists of hitting Nick with ugly dolls by throwing them at the fan, and
having them fly off and hit him. This game quickly evolves into a violent dodgeball game with
stuffed animals that can only be compared to the Hunger Games. Commonly I don t want to
participate in the reckless games that we normally do, because I am younger and as a result I
become injured quite a bit. I don t admit this to the older kids because all I want to do is play
with my best friends. The game tends to come to a close when someone falls off the top bunk,
which apparently, this time, was Nick. When we aren t wrecking the house, we go outside. Racing
across the sand, we plummet into the water, the splash wars have begun. Next to come, sandcastle
building and, what seems like endless laughter. Then, we come home, sand filling our swimsuits
and sheeted to our skin, to rinse off in the outdoor shower. I pull the handle out

The Importance of Music In Marketing Techniques
Music has become an important part of the marketing tool s extent, with the compound usage of TV
and radio as the mean of communicating with the consumers.
Music can serve universal promotional goals in one or more of several capacities. The classic
jingle is the most common musical technique for aiding memorability and thus product recall.
Some of the biggest products and companies in the world are successful solely because of the
customer satisfaction, this is also because the customers like a particular jingle/music in an
advertisement the brand produced. An intimate jingle/music catches the customer s attention and
makes them think twice about a product; and a bad jingle might make a company famous for the
wrong reasons, or persuade people from looking at a certain brand. The usage of music and jingles
in marketing has proven to be of importance. It helps to create the product or brand s image and it
also helps, together with all of the other marketing tools to promote the product and to make it
memorable for the consumers. (Shimp Andrews, 2013 pp 65 66)
One of the important aspects in music in advertising is the music fit or the degree of congruity
between the advertisement and song content. Marketing and music can definitely agree. This
involvement refers to the amount of attention directed toward the advertisement and its content. It
can be implied or directly stated, changing the way in which background music interacts with
advertisement viewing or listening.

  • 2. The Psychic Medium The Psychic Medium There are many types of psychic phenomena that exist. In this paper, I will discuss that of the psychic medium. The term psychic medium refers to a person thought to have the ability to communicate with the spirits of the dead or with agents of another world or dimension through extra sensory perception or paranormal powers. While a medium will always be psychic, a psychic is not always a medium. The main objective of a mediums work is to prove survival of the human personality or spirit after death and to help the bereaved come to terms with their loss. The ability of a psychic medium can have a life saving effect. However, due to the many fraudulent practitioners trying to scam people out of their money by offering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It all began when the Greek philosophers got into the habit of questioning nature, raising doubts about everything. Sacred forms of experience were scorned and disparaged and eventually a certain kind of science came to dominate our thinking; the old wisdom traditions were forced to take a back seat. Of course, it s easy to tote up the pluses of Science, which has freed us from ignorance and superstition, cleared the way to mastering the forces of nature, extended life and made things comfortable for the affluent in capitalist societies. On the other hand, according to the official view, consciousness peeps out momentarily, and is destined to vanish forever after death. Science has torn down the ancient myths, and made the implausibility of life after death an article of faith. The effects of these phenomena have a great impact on human society. When a mother loses a child it is always a tragedy, but when there are a lot of unanswered questions relating to his/her death, the help of a medium can lead to or bring closure to the family, enabling them to move forward. Most people mourning the loss of a loved one are in an extremely vulnerable state, yearning for answers to questions that one can no longer answer. If we could definitively answer these questions, the human race would be that much stronger. Now take it one step ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She is a year behind her peers, particularly in her English class and her teachers have slowly begun to reduce their expectations of her. Her parents are worried because her confidence for learning is decreasing, and there is less motivation for her to do homework and class assignments. A psychologist found that her intelligence is in the gifted range, but she has difficulty in making out written symbols. Learning Disabilities generally is viewed as a category in federal legislation referring to disorders involved in understanding or using language, manifested in imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations (EBSCO, 2005, p.1). Students with learning disabilities have average or above average intelligence but suffer from impaired brain functions or also known as neurological handicaps. This impairment makes it difficult for them to acquire skills and knowledge accurately and fast enough to keep pace with average academic progress. Once believed to be rare, learning disabilities are now believed to affect approximately 5 percent of the population (Encarta, 2003, p.1); many experts believe the percentage to be actually higher. Learning disabilities do not refer to a single disorder, but to a wider range of problems, which can include language, memory, attention, and organization; that can affect any area of academic performance. An example of irony is that Comrade Pillai is a communist but does not want Velutha to join the revolution just because he is an untouchable. A revolutionary leader would want all the support he can get, but because Velutha is inferior, he does not accept him. Setting amp; Location: The book is mainly set in Ayemenem, India during the 1960s. Most of the plot occurs in the Ayemenem House, which is also the Paradise Pickles amp; Preserves factory they own. Another setting includes the movie theatre called Abhilash Talkies in the city of Kerala when the family goes to watch The Sound of Music. Another setting is in the airport when the family picks up Sophie Mol and Margaret Kochamma. Writer s Style: Arundhati Roy s style is very different from others. She writes with great detail and incorporates deep imagery. She writes in flashbacks to show how the twins childhoods still affect them as adults. She begins with the family s lives when they are older, and go back to when the twins were children. This helps readers know what happens to the family before finding out about the events that occur in between. Symbols: Pappachi s moth symbolizes fear. Superhero s are people that make immense sacrifices, take extraordinary risks, and take the initiative to help make a society a better place for the greater good. Guardians of the Galaxy, a film produced by James Gunn, did a fantastic job at accurately portraying the true meaning and expectations of our superheroes, all while maintaining a fun and enjoyable film above the deeper meanings. The idea that one individual can feel masculine or feel feminine does not make them a male or female. Throughout Composing Gender, many readings refer to sexuality as an inevitable part of gender construction, several authors use the terms heteronormative and compulsory heterosexuality to describe a social structure in which the expression of sexuality is seen as normal only. This is the assumption that you are not meeting the un stated facts of masculinity, causing you to seem weaker, revealing more feminine traits. Bringing on the assumption that you are in fact gay or lesbian or even bi. It is also said within this passage that most boys call others faggots as a joke but won t call anyone a fag if there is a homosexual around (Pascoe, 2011, p. 212 213). Though overall no one is claimed a faggot at all, the only thing that these children used to determine who was or wasn t a fag was their clothes how they took care of themselves and other things. Pascoe seems that the term faggot is more of a way for kids to put up a wall against homophobia, and create some type of borders against male sexuality. Going back to my thesis, these adolescent boys already know the difference between a gay and straight boy. They can tell when one is being very prominent about his sexuality as stated above, so they won t call them a fag. These boys are natural, and practice heteronormativity to prove they are not unnatural or heterosexual. In order to fit in with the rest of their school and to prevent being called a faggot. Both religions believe that heaven and hell does exist, although Christians believe that Jesus Christ died for us so that we may have eternal life. The Jews focus on the Torah which speaks of a life following this one. Judaism believe that there is a physical place called Sheol where the individual goes down after this life. Although someone claims they re a liberal, they might tend towards communism. With the traditional left or right scale, it would be impossible to know that; The Political Compass, however, has a dimension for fascism and anarchism along with communism and neo liberalismwhich would indicate both the economic scale (communism) and social scale (libertarian). It is also a more accurate way to determine where certain politicians lie. Take Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany. She s a moderate neo liberalist who is neither full fascist or anarchist. From poetry to novels, writing form helps shape a reader s experience. The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner , is the perfect example of how a poem s form reinforces its content. The author, Randall Jarrell, leaves much to the readers imagination. Jarrell is descriptive and vague at the same time. This style is no accident and helps convey more to the readers than the surface level of the text. Making the readers think and question the truth behind any war and telling a story people aren t used to reading. 1 In class, we ve discussed Kate McLoughlin s ideas for how to write the best war literature. Kate McLoughlin helped write and edit The Cambridge Companion to War Writing. In her writing, McLoughlin discusses the difficulties of war literature, and how words can t capture the true complexity of war. McLoughlin describes war as a massive and complex phenomenon and goes on to say literature of any type cannot accurately capture war. This is especially true of war on a global scale that spans years. To solve this problem, McLoughlin suggests that writing less and leaving certain aspects to the reader s imagination can be beneficial. 2 Randall Jarrell s style seems in line with McLoughlin s views on how to write proper war literature. This lack of detail is what made his poem, one of the more compelling readings so far. Leaving the reader to imagine what the gunner is experiencing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Importance Of The Fair Trade Movement The movement I chose to research was the Fair Trade Movement. The main goal of the Fair Trade Movement is to provide support to allow workers and farmers in local communities to not get overshadowed or taken advantage of by large corporations and be provided with sustainable and reasonable working conditions. Fairtrade is important as it is used to help improve the lives and communities of producers that are small scale. Furthermore, Fairtrade is more than just trading goods It highlights the need for change in the rules and practice of conventional trade and shows how a successful business can also put people first. It is a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty, climate change and economic crisis (World Fair TradeOrganization). The key values of the Fairtrade movement include five values that the Fair Trade Movement are committed to which are: People First, Excellence, Integrity, Respect, and Passion (Fair Trade Canada). In terms of people, the Fairtrade movement focuses their goal around promoting and improving the wellbeing of people such as farmers, workers and other members of small scale, or local businesses. Secondly, for integrity they try to be as honest, ethical and transparent as possible as they are accountable to their stakeholders (Fair Trade Canada). Third, respect is a key value to the Fairtrade movement as they want to collaborate and work with diverse groups who share similar values as the movement. Finally, passion is their last key value ... Here, is another difference between the two doctors. Dr. Frankenstein(after realizing what he has done) halts all of his experiments and does away with his laboratory anything to get his mind of his terrible creation. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bronte illustrates the Heights as having a very blunt and intimidating appearance. It is a very strong and prominent structure, however it proves to be a very desolate and lonely place. Likewise, those who inhabit it prove to be somewhat tormented souls. Nelly describes Heathcliff after his subjection to the Heights without Catherine, A half civilized ferocity lurked yet in the depressed brows and eyes full of black fire, but it was subdued; and his manner was even dignified: quite divested of roughness, though too stern for grace (Bronte, 95). Just a few miles away, the Grange represents sanity and sensibility with its refinement and pleasant appearance. The civility of its inhabitants, the Lintons, and their distinguished status stand in stark contrast to the more disturbed Wuthering Heights. Bronte takes great care to create these images of the two estates for readers because it is what they stand for that drives Catherine and Heathcliff apart in the first place. The book series infatuated the hearts of teenage girls across the world, and even expanded upon those horizons to reach an audience so wide that the book series became a household name. Critics have endlessly discussed the love, or lust, of the two individuals and are fascinated by the fact that the TwilightSaga falls not just in the genre of romance, but also in the supernatural/ horror category. Maple, in an article that discusses this barrier breaking love that Bella and Edward display, states throughout the story Bella and Edward share an unorthodox relationship, a love above and beyond all others: something more expressive of eternal commitment (Maple). Maple emphasizes how deep and rare the love between the two adolescents is, and I would argue that human s innate desire for this kind of love is one of the main reasons why Twilight became so widespread. Through the use of carefully thought out editing, intentional camerawork, and intimate access, The War Roomlays bare the hidden layers of communication present within the campaign. The War Room is about communication, and the editing choices help to weave together the often invisible lines of contact present in politics. In one instance, Pennebaker films both sides of a telephone conversation between Carville and Stephanopoulos. While the clips may not even come from the same conversation, the evidentiary editing immediately opens up the world of the movie. The audience no longer cares solely about the room in front of them, but is also curious about the important action in other conference rooms, happening just a phone call away. Pennebaker also highlights the contrast between the public and private spheres of communication. In particular, there s a political need to project a certain cohesiveness, regardless of internal discord. The War Room depicts many meetings where the strategists are bogged down in minutiae, debating word choice and the colors of rally signs. Pennebaker artfully contrasts these scenes with the final media output. When the film cuts to the end of the rally, the audience sees the balloons fall in conjunction with Fleetwood Mac, Bill s face on a giant monitor, and a crowd full of coordinated signs. Presented by itself, the rally feels seamless and natural; the crowd has an organic and infectious enthusiasm. The years from 1874 1878 were spent at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he received a first class degree in Classics and the Newdigate Prize for poetry with his poetry submission of Ravenna. (Bloom 11). Wilde was married to a daughter of a wealthy Irish barrister in 1884, and had two sons in the following years. (Bloom 11). Before he died in November 1900, he wrote several plays, including The Importance of Being Earnest. There are several themes placed throughout Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest, such as: gender roles, loveand marriage, and society v. hypocrisy. Gender roles are an important theme placed in The Importance of Being Earnest. The feminist movement has already been in full swing. Women already moved in the path of education. With the considerable level of education, women have already started toward the direction of freedom. (Bachelor and Master). In the play, Cecily has a governess hired by Mr. John Worthing educating her to become more successful on her own. Wilde presented Lady Bracknell talking about the position of men. She says, in her talk with Gwendolen house is the proper place for man. . . . This bit of conversation reveals women have also begun to move freely in the occupational world. (Bachelor and Master). Prism is used by Wilde, in the play, as an awakened woman who serves as a governess to Cecily, who writes novels. Wilde averted to see the limitations of the feminist movement. Feministically awakened and educated women to cling to more job of governess. (Bachelor and Master). Miss Prism is used as a symbol of feminism used by Wilde in The Importance of Being Earnest to show that women were on the move in life advancements. The Idea of Li and Governing Essay Li, or rites, has played an integral part in shaping early Chinese philosophy, though not all philosophers have agreed on its meaning or reason for application. Some will argue that human nature requires us to us Li to be ethical beings, while others believe that Li will teach and mold us into beings that will follow the norms of our society. The three major Confucian philosophers whom used the idea of Li to shape their theories were Confucius, Mencius, and Xunzi. There would be no chaos due to lack of basic needs because the everyone in the society was fulfilling their personal role, whether it be to provide food or provide governance. Confucius also put a large emphasis on the Zhou kings of the past, calling them sage kings and praising their ability to keep order through promoting Li to their subjects, which caused peace and security to their fellow man (The Analects, 22). Mencius, a stark follower of Confucius s teachings, viewed Li in a different light. Living in the time called the Warring State Period, Mencius saw the discourse and chaos that Confucius had worked hard to fight against. While rulers fought amongst themselves for power, Mencius sought to find what was the cause of this chaos and what could alleviate it. I Hope You Dance and My Wish are very alike in a sense that they are both about going somewhere in life and being happy, but there are a few differences that are hard to recognize. My Wish is a song recorded by Rascal Flatts, written by Jeffery Steele and Steve Robson. The song was written for one of Steele s four daughters. What I m getting out of this song, and what I believe many others do too is to live every minute like it s your last. I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow the very first line is about someone who s going somewhere in life. And if you re faced with a choice and you have to choose, I hope you choose the one that means the most to you (line 3 4) What Steele is saying that if one has to make a choice, it should be the best choice for that person, not what someone else wants you to do.
