then,
There are a lot of
unique social media in
        Japan.
Today,
I introduce 3 points of
Japanese Social Media.
1.
The trend of real time
       sharing
Time-shift in users of social media in
Japan
The trend of real time sharing

• In 2011, “twitter” overtook “mixi” in the number of
  users.
  – mixi is the most famous Social Networking
    Service (SNS) in Japan
       • mixi was released in 2004.
       • Users of mixi keep diary and leave comments on their
         friend’s diary.
  – is a microblogging service, enabling its
users to send and read messages called tweets.
       • Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters.
• A lot of people share their “now” by using
  social media.
2.
The feature of shared
contents “Dadamore”
The features of shared contents

• You can easily broadcast video live to the
world by using “Ustream” or “Nico Nico
  Live”.

• In Japan, many kinds of video live is
  broadcast every day.
  – Academic conferences
  – Study meeting
  – Budget-screening sessions(事業仕分け)
  – All day of Baseball Camps
  – “Sumo” practice
3.
Foresight of E-book
  reading service
Foresight of E-book reading service
• Existing reading support web service in
  Japan

     • These services only help users share their book reports
       after reading.

• In the near future, more services are
expected to be available that also help
readers of E-books share their reading
  experiences themselves.
Conclusion
1. The trend of real time sharing
2. The feature of the shared contents -
“Dadamore”
3. Sharing of reading experiences of E-books

Social Reading Function
What is Social Reading?
In Workshop
• = “Share Reading” (In Japan)
• “Exciting to share the experience
  of reading with total strangers.”
• But
  “Discouraging when no one
  responds to my tweet.”
For Education
• For Teenagers
Social reading is not good for them.
• For College and University students
Social Reading has many possibilities for
  higher education.
One of such possibilities is the use of social
  reading in reading clubs.
• So we held a reading club of “Book Busines
  2.0” using social reading.
Possibilities of Social Reading for
              Reading Club
• Advantages
  You don’t have to mind:
   –Time
   –Place
→ Easier to join the reading club
Two features
• Possibilities in terms of space
  –Physical and psychological
    distances
  → Global Communication
• Possibilities in terms of time
  –Synchronous and asynchronous
    reading
Conclusion
• Japanese e-books, social media and
  social reading are progressing differently
  from America.

• Circumstances around books change and
  influence our ways of communication.
