It is my gut instinct to believe the victim because there is nothing at all to be gained by going public
with a rape accusation except the humiliations of the justice system and public scorn. Only an
estimated 2 to 10 percent of rape accusations are false. And to have sex with a woman who said she
was blackout drunk, to do so with a friend – that is a crime, whether the justice system agrees or not.
When it comes to sexual violence, I do not know what justice looks like; no one does. According to
the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, out of every 1,000 rapes, 344 will be reported to the
police, 63 of those reports will lead to an arrest, 13 cases will be referred to a prosecutor, seven of
those cases will lead to a felony conviction and six of those perpetrators will serve prison time. They
will serve that time in a broken system that incarcerates without offering offenders any kind of real

The true bizarreness of the film is shown in Max's insane hallucinations. The camera focuses in on
Max's right thumb twitching and shaking until his whole body is overcome by a massive migraine.
Throughout the film, Max is plagued by these headaches, each beginning with a camera close–up of
his twitching thumb. The dramatic effect is intensified by a mess of techno, chaotic–sounding music
until suddenly there is silence signaling the end of Max's pain and the beginning of his strange
hallucinations. The ordeal is always ended by a flash of light, identical to the one he saw after his
first headache at the origin of his genius. He narrates of his first headache at the age of six, caused
by staring into the sun, leaving him blind for several days. When the bandages finally came off, he
saw a bright light, which signified him being taken into a new state of understanding. . This incident
gave Max his special ability to understand mathematics and his amazing grasp of the number theory.
The movie contains several bits of narration like this by the main character, intended to give the
viewer a feeling of probing into the very mind and thoughts of Max. The bizarre hallucinations seem
to be a device to show the abyss of madness that Max nears. Throughout the film, Max confides in
only one person, his mentor and

Artemis Morley Essay
Last April (2016) when I made my inaugural trip to the Artemis Film Festival, I came in contact
with the works of a filmmaker that greatly intrigued me––Jill Morley. Although I didn't meet her nor
screen her work at the festival, I have discovered that if Artemis promotes a filmmaker, it is worth
my while to investigate the person. And that is exactly what I did. A few months back, Jill and I had
the opportunity to chat, and in spite of her busy schedule, we briefly discussed her work within the
indie film community, her various films and projects, and her "in–progress" works and future
aspirations.
RH: What caused you to go the route of making films?

Yes, that's a piece that I did for Vice magazine. I was a host, and I helped produce it. I had been
fascinated with her for a long time. I knew a friend of hers said she was very sweet and nice and
actually girly, though a lot of people don't think that she's like that when they think of her. I reached
out to her and did this small piece on her with Vice. I was very proud of our work.
So between your two films Confessions of a Go–Go Girl and Fight Like a Girl, which one seemed
to have the best reception do you think?
It's hard to say. It's been so long between the films. The first film got into more festivals, and we got
a broadcast distribution. But now so many more people are making films. I still don't feel like Fight
Like a Girl has reached its full potential. When we do play at festivals or even at women's events,
people are very responsive. They seem to respond strongly in very emotional ways.
I noticed you because of the Artemis Film Festival this past April, and they kept mentioning you and
your works.

Macario Film Analysis
Macario is a 1960 Mexican film. This film was based on the novel of the same name by B. Traven.
This movie was directed by Roberto Gavaldon which was a very well recognized director in New
Spain (modern–day Mexico). This ninety–minute film became so popular in Mexico. This Film was
the first Mexican film to be nominated for an academy award! This film entered the Best Foreign
Language Film. It became so popular that it won its entrance to the 1960 Cannes film Festival.
Macario the films' name, is also the main character in this film. Another main character that is
seemed in the film is the death (la muerte). We also have our secondary characters such as Macario's
wife, God, the devil, and some members of the inquisition.
The story centers on Macario, a poor woodcutter. Macario works day by the to bring food to the
table so that his family can eat. His economic resources can barely keep himself and his family out
of starvation. After Macario sees the process in how roast turkeys are made, his dream becomes to
eat a whole roast turkey all for himself. He even tells his family that he would never eat unless he
ate the entire turkey himself. This worries Macarios' wife. She becomes so worried that she herself
steals the chicken and gives it to Macario before he leaves to work. His hunger was stronger than his
conscience, that without even thinking about his kids, he leaves. However, just as Macario prepares
to eat the turkey, three men appear to him. The first appeared person

The Australian Film Industry
The Australian film industry is currently in a point of crisis due to the lack of audiences attending
Australian films, hence creating a decline in the revenue received towards our national industry.
However, this is not due to the lack of creative talent, it is rather the many underlying issues that
don?t allow the Australian public with the awareness and accessibility of these films. These
problems are within the distribution, marketing and funding of these Australian films, allowing the
national Australian community to not seek for films made by people within their nation due to
negative pre–conceived notions and the convenience of going to see a Hollywood Blockbuster.
These issues are seen through the poor release of both critically received films, Jennifer Kent?s The
Babadook (2014) and Hugh Sullivan?s The Infinite Man (2014), both not gaining a wide audience.
Through these issues within the industry, Australian filmmakers have not been able to create the
revenue needed for these films to branch out to be easily attained by the public. The poor
distribution of Australian films has made it difficult for the public to view these said films, due to
the lack of theatres screening the actual pictures. This contributes to the community of the
Australian public to collectively be unaware of these films and leads to the small number of tickets
sold in cinemas. With this lack of money being spent on Australian films, the industry suffers due to
with no return going into the

What Is The Battle Of Hacksaw Ridge: Is There Honor In War?
Is there honor in war? Most people take a long time to answer this question, and more often than
not, they answer is in a negative way. Indeed, World War II was a global war. It was the deadliest of
any war in the human history. The war ended after six years of tough fighting and hardship. About
17 million people in the military were gone, and almost three times that number of civilians were
dead. Millions more were injured, imprisoned, starved; and some were even deported and became
refugees subjected to forced labor. Most of the countries were devastated by the war. On the positive
side, many people rose to the challenge and demonstrated unprecedented courage, determination,
endurance, diligence, cooperation, and a desire to prevail over evil and hardship. ... Show more

Okinawa during the World War II. The main character, Desmond Doss (Actor Andrew Garfield),
was a member of the medical unit in the US Army, who refused to carry a weapon and engage in
fighting for religious reasons and moral principles. He was granted the Medal of Honor from

Film Festivals : The Most Pervasive Form Of Communication
Film festivals are showcases that attract widespread global attention for films and people. People
enjoy the chance for a community to interact in many ways: filmmaker to filmmaker, amateur to
professional, and filmmaker to audience. Film festivals function as sites for the production,
distribution, and exhibition of independent films from all over the world.
Festivals are significantly important because they are promoting expression, art and culture. Film is
the basis of all motion picture forms, and is the most pervasive form of communication and
entertainment in the postmodern world (Tomaselli 5).These independent films have no true
definition, but can be explained as distinguishable solely by their content and style and the way in
which the filmmakers ' personal artistic vision is realized. Usually, but not always, independent
films are made with considerably lower budgets than major studio movies (Wikipedia).
Independent films are generally more creative at story–telling and different from studio films in
their way of distribution, production, and funding. The creators of independent films are usually
working with tight budgets, therefore making the movies shorter. Therefore, filmmakers utilize film
festivals as their distribution channel:
"They provide an opportunity for unknown filmmakers to get their movies in front of a real live
audience and to have their films reviewed by professional critics. Filmmakers whose movies get
accepted into a festival also get valuable

How To Write An Essay On Musical Theatre
Miranda McKeon

In my house, not a day goes by where you will not find me singing new show tunes I have found on
youtube or a song a friend has told me about. Becuase of this, my older brother is constantly yelling
at me to "stop singing" or "be quiet." I like to his frustration as positive reinforcement that I am
improving on my projecting skills:)
Theatre has always been such a significant part of my life as it occupies almost all of my time. There
is just something so irresistible about getting up on stage or in front of a camera and sharing a
meaningful story with the audience. I started my theatre journey at Stage Right, a local production
company in town. It was there that I discovered my love for musical theatre and instantly knew that
nothing else would satisfy my hunger to perform. The first time I stood up to audition for a solo I
nearly blacked out due to uncontrollable neves. Standing here today it feels amazing to see how far I

The Wolfpack Is A 2015 Documentary That Tells The Story Of...
The Wolfpack is a 2015 documentary that tells the story of the Angulo family, specifically the six
movie obsessed brothers, and their life in a tiny New York City apartment. The Angulo brothers, all
named by their Hare Krishna father for different iterations of the god Krishna, shared a six room
apartment with their parents and older sister, Visnu. Their tight knit relationship developed in part
from the isolation the family experienced during the boys childhood. During the film, they tell the
camera how their father had the only key to the apartment and controlled their excursions into the
outside world. "Sometimes we got out once a year," says Mukunda Angulo, "and one particular year
we never got out at all" (The Wolfpack 2015). To compensate for this lack of interaction with the
outside world, the brothers turned to movies, watching thousands of films during the years they
stayed inside the apartment. Their story is unique and compelling. These brothers, despite– or
perhaps because of– the conditions they were raised in, developed a strength and resiliency that
allows them to be surprisingly well adjusted to modern American life. They now have Facebook
pages and Instagram accounts, friends, love interests, and some have picked up Americanized names
(Krisna is now Glenn, and Jagadisa goes by Eddie). The Wolfpack offers viewers a glimpse into
their world, as filmmaker Crystal Moselle was given unprecedented access to their apartment and
their lives. Moselle has

Analysis Of The Movie ' The Chinese Mayor '
The Chinese Mayor is a controversial documentary film that is from China. Datong is a historically
important city in China, but it was fall into a decline. The mayor Yanbo Geng has a transformation
plan for this city. The birth of the documentary is associated with the social situation of China. This
documentary film shows a different mayor with his distinctive thinking in China and the things he

Datong, once flourishing city in Shanxi province of China now stood next to a heap of ruins. The
pollution in this city is serious, the city infrastructure was old, economic level was backward; the
whole city was state on the brink of paralysis. In 2008, Yanbo Geng became Datong's mayor. As a
mayor, he had a plan for the city to return to its luster before. As the plan in advance, a series of
problems followed. The old city is to be demolished, to build a new city, there are half a million
residents would be relocated which is 30% population of Datong. The cost of this plan needs to be

In contrast with interviews that James conducts as a source or witness, in which he sets the mise–

During panning or other establishing shots, narrated sequences, and interviews with characters, a
tripod is used to separate those moments from the story. Although not entirely non–diegetic, the
interviews are spaces in the film shot outside of the story. The audience is given confirmation of
how William and Arthur must be feeling during this time, allowing character development. Along
with the ethical concerns of not tampering with reality, aesthetic efforts during the interviews was
necessary to separate them from reality (Ellis, 222) Arthur's mother, Sheila Agee, was a symbolic

Essay The Relationship Between Producers and Audiences
The relationship between producers and audiences
Audience research, producer response to research and audience targeting
A producer when beginning pre–production or even before will most likely look at some form of
survey's which would include things like possible cast members for the film and the amount of
audience that would want to see possibly be interested in the genre. They will then take this to the
writers and director of the particular film and they will make amendments to how the survey has
come out. A producer will also look at the success of recent films of the same type; this is visible in
recent times with the resurgence of vampire films following the success of twilight saga this has

A producer who knows that their film doesn't have a lot of money or publicity would use a film
festival to get both of these things. Also these films will most likely be in art house cinemas but if
one is particularly successful then this could move to multiplex cinemas the troll hunter is one of
those films that has crossed the brigde from art house to multiplex and is now being shown in over
20 vue cinemas in the UK, the producer did this by getting the film publicity from channel 4's sister
channel E4 and making a competition for a private screening this made the film sort after which
then lead to interest from multiplex cinemas. But for films that won't need that sort of publicity will
have a big Hollywood premiere that would most likely have a segment on TV showing the premiere
and would include interviews with the cast, director and any other notable person involved with the
film. Celebrities from outside of the film will go also to show the films quality and also so that they
themselves can get publicity, films like this will almost always be shown in multiplex cinemas this
is the same for Cars 2 but will probably have this kind of showing but because it's a childs film the
TV shows and so on will most probably be shown on kids TV most obviously the Disney

Richardson produced, directed and captured all the footage himself. The end result is a multitude of
powerful one–on–one interviews, archival footage of patients, and candid long takes. Richardson
cuts himself out of the interviews, and edits together strikingly frank sound bytes to showcase his
subjects talking about death and the affect of the law. His use of archival footage primarily captures
his patients when they were healthy, and provides a striking contrast as they seriously discuss death
towards the end of their lives. His use of candid long takes captures some of the most poignant
moments of the film, including the final minutes of one man's life after taking the lethal drugs. The
camera is a spectator in the room, as the man accompanied by his family; all face his personal
decision to die together. All of these different footage types work together to provide emotional
weight to an already troubling subject.
2) Richardson's non–interventionist style is a prime example of observational documentary, and
works specifically well in capturing and promulgating the subject of death. According to Nichols,
observational documentaries started appearing in the 1960's as result of more mobile and smaller
equipment. Furthermore, observational documentary stresses non–intervention, as filmmakers
objectively observe indirect speech, candidness in the form of long takes, and create a world out of

'Media institutions are essentially profit driven'
Evaluate how commercial pressures have had an impact on the products in your cross media study.
Support your answer with reference to a range of examples from three media platforms.
In this piece of writing I will evaluate the commercial pressures that are put on films for them to
make a profit. My case study involves the texts, Hunger, Shame and 12 Years a Slave.
Due to film making becoming more of a business than about the art, companies are not willing to
take as many risks as they do not want to lose money investing in an unknown film story when they
can easily release a known product that they know will make them money, therefore it is important
for independent films to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the film had its presence online increased by gaining a 90% rating on the film website

was the review aggregator website MetaCritic gave it an average review of 82 out of 100 based on

What Is The Theme Of The Squid And The Whale
The Squid and the Whale
A Critical Analysis
Written and directed by Noah Baumbach, this film is set in Brooklyn, New York City, 1986. Some
critics claim that it is almost autobiographical of Baumbach's life and the painful and confusing
experience he went through when his own parents were in the process of divorce. The most obvious
central theme of the movie is divorce and the crisis it causes within the family as each member is
attempting to rearrange themselves, both inside their heads and in the outside world. Looking
deeper, the film can also be seen as a coming–of–age story of two young boys, one on the verge of
his teen years and the other on the verge of young adulthood. What makes this film special is just
how painfully real it is, when it comes to the portrayal of human interactions on screen as well as
how each shot is captured. Baumbach, through his direction was able to capture the reality of each

girlfriend out to dinner. When Sophie reaches for her wallet, expecting Bernard to stop her and foot

he realizes how stingy and uninterested in his relationships his father is. At the same time, the
audience feels a surge of pity for Bernard, who is suffering financially due to his dwindling writing
career, as he has to swallow his ego and take the money from the child. In another scene, in front of
the children, Joan accuses Bernard of asking for joint custody of the children only in the hope of

Defining Socially Conscious Film Making Essay
DOES THE END JUSTIFY THE MEANS? HOW DO WE DEFINE "SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS"
FILMMAKING?
Two accountants recently told me that the IRS is questioning (as they tended to do so years ago)
whether filmmakers are hobbyists or professionals. They determine this on the basis of whether or
not profits are made on a sustainable basis.
Most obviously, one of the main issues facing our industry is supply and demand–too many people
willing to work for low wages in an industry in which there is too little demand in comparison to
what is produced.
Certainly, the indie doc economy has been impacted by oversupply, due in part by lower barriers to
entry created by myriad of technological changes, and an ever–changing media landscape. But given
that we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Are we exempt from the social responsibilities that our progressive films champion because the ends
justify the means? The system is not working. And while it may be seemingly impossible to change,
this does not absolve us of our responsibility to critically examine a system that, like many others in
our global economy, which can be classist, ageist and exploitative. Let's look at the elephant in the
room constructively, bravely, honestly and in the spirit of discovery.
Before hearing the report on NPR today, I contemplated applying for the Ch4 BritDoc Fund. I read
the following in small print:
"We cannot give you the level of funding that TV provides. On average, we invest (please define)
between £10,000 and £30,000 and the budgets our filmmakers work to are very pared down. More
often than not (though this varies from project to project) this means you will be expected to put
your time in for free or a nominal sum until the deficit is raised."
The text continued: "When the Foundation invests (there's word again–see the text of Dan Cogan's
well–intentioned but misguided Toronto Film Festival speech in IndieWire) in a film we fully come
on board as Exec Producers."
Another funder, Chicken & Egg, is also requesting Executive Producer credit on many of the films
they support, e.g., "Pariah" has "Julie Parker Benello, Judith Helfand, Wendy Ettinger listed as

Throughout the movie, we see frequent montages of the city and get accustomed with its vibrant

match the intensity and mental state of the characters. The characters do not converse much, instead
they choose the path of contemplation and confession, trying to revisit their past.
His wonderfully written dialogues help to create a calming influence on the film, which reveals the
depressing nature of the characters. For example, when the woman asks the man if he still enjoys his

"Sometimes you get used to things. After fifteen years it's not a matter of whether you 'like' it or not.
You just forget about the tiny details."
The term "tiny details" is closely related with the flow of the movie as we see the band members,

Analysis Of Raoul Peck 's ' French Cinema '
Diel Powell
Dr. Kirkpatrick

National French Cinema
Raoul Peck
France is the birthplace of cinema and is responsible for many of its significant contributions to the
art form worldwide, including the filmmaking process itself. I've learned about the greats but haven't
been introduced to a man quite as distinguished and relatable to myself as a young black aspiring
creator.
Early Life: Although not born in France, Raoul Peck has become a notable director and screenwriter
and has left a memorable impact in the film industry with his cinematic adaptations of reality. From
taxi driver, to Minister of culture, to honorary award winning director, Raoul Peck has experienced
the world in ways few will ever have the chance to. Just as he thought his life would revolve around
international affairs at the United Nations, he created a bigger platform to spread the news about
foreign relations. His documentaries and films have been about real people and he believes film can
try and save our histories, our memories whilst guiding society in a better direction.
Peck had an unusual but interesting childhood upbringing. In 1953 he was born in Port–au–Prince,
Haiti however, at the age of 8, his family sought asylum in the Democratic Republic of Congo
(DRC). Peck's tutelage spreads across 2 continents and the caribbean islands. He attended schools in
Kinshasa, DRC, (Brooklyn) New York, United States, Orléans, France, and Berlin, Germany. Peck

Mask You Live In Psychology
The film The Mask You Live In was written, filmed and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom. It was
released on January 25, 2015 at the premiere of the Sundance Film Festival. Jennifer also released a
similar film called Miss Representation, a film about what the expectations of a woman were
according to the media. According to the film, using hyper–masculinity among boys and young men
through parental teachings and social expectations in the United States negatively affects them
psychologically as it affects their way of decision–making and become more isolated throughout
their lives. I firmly agree with Newsom's message she was trying to send out to her intended
audience, the parents and our society at large communicated through statistics shown as title
sequences and the testimonies coming from boys and men who were once at–risk.
Jennifer Siebel Newsom was born on June 19, 1974 in San Francisco, CA and is the eldest of four
sisters in her family. As stated by Stanford Women, Newsom graduated from Stanford University
with honors obtaining a Bachelor's degree in 1996 and an MBA in 2001. According to contributor
Frank Miniter 's article "Is Masculinity Toxic?," Jennifer Siebel Newsom is married to Gavin
Newsom, a former San Francisco mayor and currently a Lieutenant Governor of California and
eventually raised four children. Also, as stated in Michael Mechanic's article ""Be a Man." What

First released on 18 January 2014 at Sundance Film Festival,, Love is Strange is directed by Ira

Typically, these films directly depict gay love which is studios dislike to handle. Love Is Strange
shows audiences the love between two old men could be so simple, just like love between a man and
a woman. Likewise, Ben and George look like two kids, and nothing is more important for them
than being able to living together. The film is focus on normal life of two old men. Few of studio
films want to talk about life trivia, which studio are not interested in. But we can see it is some
trivial and real matters that affect audiences and their emotion. It is interesting too. Foe instance,
Ben interrupts Kate when she is writing, and Kate asks Ben why he don't start a new painting; Ben
answers, "It's the hardest thing, Kate, to be honest with you. I brought all my stuff here,
but...Well...it's just that I can't really work if there's someone else around. I can't concentrate, you

Digital Technology and Filmmaking Essay examples
Digital Technology and Filmmaking
Since the first movies were first made, they have been shot using film of various sizes, such as
8mm, 16mm, and 35mm. Within the past few years, technology has brought digital cameras to the
film industry, and now they are being used in independent and Hollywood films. The recent low
budget film The Blair Witch Project was primarily filmed using a Sony VX1000 digital camera, and
the movie The Celebration was totally filmed using this camera and the Canon XL–1, ("Should I

In Newsweek magazine, Jan 10, 2000 issue, a brief article called "Going Digital" makes note of
digital's approaching effects (12). It says that because of the success of certain films shot digitally,
such as The Celebration, the Sundance Film Festival anticipated a large number of digital entries
this past season, which took place from January 20 till the 30 (12). They provided top of the line
digital projectors at several of their locations. They aren't the only group of people who are

Analysis Of The Grand Vienna Hotel
Director Wes Anderson and writer Stefan Zweig come together to bring this epic adventure to life.
The Grand Budapest Hotel is a narrative driven master piece of cinema set in 1932. Mr. Gustave
played by Ralph Fiennes, is a legendary concierge who befriends a new lobby boy Zero played by
Tony Revolori. Gustave and Zero set out on an adventure together after his love Madame D. is
found murdered. Anderson has come a long way since his short film Bottle Rocket, but the success
of that movie at the Sundance Film Festival set him on a path to greatness. Andersons continued
success is contributed to his cinematography style. Let me say experiencing all of Wes Anderson's
body of works, this is by far my favorite film to date. I was mesmerized by the Grand Budapest
Hotel itself, as one of the prominent center points the hotel shines. Anderson takes his acclaimed
cinematography style and makes the hotel a shining star. Every frame features architecture and color
pallet of soft oranges, pinks, and yellows bringing about a certain look of luxury. One camera trick I
found I was the use of windows, hallways, and doors in every scene, and camera positions taking
full advantage of those spaces and shapes. The story moves from the hotel where Zero is learning
his day to day duties as a lobby boy. The death of Gustave friend is seen in the newspaper, and the
adventure begins. The tight close shots on board the train, while the narrator updates the story, keeps
the audience in suspense. The

We are to identify its genre and its particular conventions such as themes, sub–themes and etc.
However, the main idea of this assignment is the film theory. We are to apply one of the nine film
theories into our film choices and analyze it thoroughly in terms of mise–en scene, narrative
structure, character interaction and any other criteria.
For our film selection, we have gone through and watched a few international films which included

Synopsis
Amélie is mainly centered on the lead/title character Amélie Poulain. She is an imaginative girl who
had a very lonely childhood which explains her isolation from society once she grew up. Her father
Raphael Poulain who is a former doctor of the army, mistakenly believed that she was suffering
from a heart condition when she was a child and due to this, she was deemed unfit for school and
thus was home–schooled by her mother. Amelie's mother, Amandine Poulain is a school
headmistress. Unfortunately, when Amelie was young, her mother died in a bizarre accident with her
daughter by her side. This causes Raphael to be permanently depressed and he kept to himself most
of the time. Due to this, Amelie didn't receive much attention from her father growing up. When she
grows up, she becomes a waitress in a small café run by a former circus performer. After helping a
man rediscover his childhood Amelie decides to spend her life helping others. After a few
encounters and helping several eccentric characters, Amélie becomes attracted to a man she meets
named "Nino" who has an unusually hobby of collecting discarded photos. However, due to her
solitary ways, she is unable to approach him. In the end, Amelie schemes an elaborate romantic
gesture for Nino and they begin their relationship at the end of the movie.
Genre Conventions
This particular film is a rendition of multiple of genres with the most obvious being Romance,
Fantasy and Comedy.

What are the benefits and challenges in indie film?
Independent film is a life born of passion. You have to love what you do. The main benefit is that
you control your work, decide who you collaborate with, and become fully actualized by the
process.
You get to tell the stories you want to tell. There isn't someone over your shoulder telling you what
you can and cannot do.
The main challenge though is financing: how to find it and how to work with very little of it. I've
come to love this process. It's the creative version of the Wild West and the "anything is possible"
mentality of independent film can be exhilarating.
It appears that you have had a wide variety of experience in various roles––producer, director,
writer, etc. What do you find the most interesting/fulfilling about each role you've played in the film
process?
I am a screenwriter, first and foremost. I love the solitude of the writing process: the introspection,
the joy in that moment an idea comes to you and the pleasure in creating a web of interlocking
characters and stories. Independent film is made for the multitasker. Directing is much like
coaching, and I am a trained coach. I enjoy working with actors to bring about a rich realisation of
story and character. It turns out I have a knack for producing, which is a bit ironic because it's my
least favourite of the three disciplines. I'm good with details, and I don't fluster easily.
For me, the joy in all of these roles is the

As one who has been devalued and ridiculed my entire life for not doing what my peers deem as

I admire John's outlook on film and the way he explores stories in unique and unusual ways.
Moreover, the fact that he recognizes the value of being nice to everyone in the business and
gleaning wisdom from the older generation causes John to rise even higher in my estimation. For
him, filmmaking is a passion in which he tells a story in such a way that it causes the viewers to
think in an unconventional way. And in a society where conformity is king and cookie cutter ideas
are often lauded, his viewpoint is a breath of fresh air. While I have not had the opportunity to view
any of his works to date, this is one time when reputation and what others say about a person carries
a great deal of weight with me. I say that if Tammy thinks he's a fantastic filmmaker, a stellar

Mise En Scene Essay
Introduction of Mise en Scene
Mise en Scene are used in every aspects of filmmaking. The term refers to the overall look and feel
of a film. It is what the viewers sees, hears and experiences while watching a film. A film's Mise en
Scene subtly influences viewer's mood as they watch a film, much like decor, lighting, smells and

A major key element in the film comprises of settings. It is where the actions takes place and helps
viewers to understand where and when the film is set. Settings not only create mood, it has social,

used in the film are very rarely just backgrounds to the characters dialogue. Viewers are often seen

certain expectations and then the actions takes a different turn. Gibbs (2002) mention that, 'Mise en

Please Standby While We Fix A Partnership Error
If you've ever had to perform a group project, then you know what it's like being paired up with
strangers. In the comedic short film, Standby, two cops are forced to go through something similar.
From the very beginning, it's clear to the audience that Gary and Jenny are new partners, since Jenny
begins asking Gary about his address. Gary appears to have a very serious personality, while Jenny
is always smiling and having fun. She seems more relaxed and laid back, allowing viewers to detect
opposite polarity between the two.
While watching this, I definitely related more toward the woman cop, since she tries to ease the
tension. I was wondering the entire time if "opposites attract" applied in this situation, and I got my

However, Charlotte Regan (director and writer of Standby) allowed for breathing room between the
two, where the expressions on their face were completely natural as their partnership progressed. I'm
interested to know how much direction Regan gave toward the actors, since their actions don't seem

Short film seems a perfect way to show the dilemma young female deals with about her identify.
Film in general can be good source to address current issue in easily approachable way. Because it is
screen as a video, even those who are not educated enough to read may understand the purpose of
the film without harm. Producers may approach their goal of addressing their points through
metaphors or direct plot telling. For example, Mother! by director Darren Aronofsky is one of the
most recent released film that address bible through many metaphors and symbolism (White). Thus
it is controversial among the viewers whether it is successful movie or not, Director Aronofsky was
successful at addressing his points about how humans harmed mother nature and how bible talks
about human behaved through history. He was successful at addressing his points especially in the
last five minutes of the film where the

My Career Path For My Life
I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was eight years old. I noticed that the first three
letters of Arthritis spell "art". To me, art is the creative outlet that has made me the person I am
today. My artistic abilities have helped me choose my career path in film that I want to peruse for
the rest of my life. I have used my real life obstacles, career goals, accomplishments and personal
background to write lyrics, scripts and create art. I am an artist and I know that with the talents I
have, will help me accomplish anything I set my mind to. I am the second oldest of four children
and the second person in my family to go to college. Neither of my parents had the opportunity to
college, so I had to work hard in school to get into a four year university. There is a lot of pressure
on me to be a good role model and set a good example for my younger siblings. I treasure my
education due to the fact my parents were not able to have one. Due to my parent's education level,
my dad is the only one who was able to find a job to provide for a family of six. He barely makes
enough to maintain my family with the daily necessities. My family also has to put my medical
expenses first over my education expenses. My parents do not have any left over money to help me
pay my cell phone, school supplies, textbooks, or housing. Since, I am the second person going to
college from my family and I will have to fund my education on my own just as my older brother
did. My financial

Key Elements Of Women In Mustang : Crench Film...
Mustang is an internationally produced Turkish–French film of the drama genre that was initially
released at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The film follows five orphaned girls residing with their
Grandmother and Uncle Erol in contemporary conservative Turkey; when they are spotted
socialising with a group of males on a beach, they are trained in activities such as cooking that are
seen as being the role of women in Turkey. The film uses the key elements of film form in order to
achieve this and reflect other cultural and historical contexts.
Firstly, the film uses the elements of film form to reflect historical and political contexts. Since the
rise to power of the AKP government in 2002, Turkey has been held Islamic attitudes very ... Show

Furthermore, the Conservative views of the area in which the main characters live is reflected
through the mise–en–scene. For instance, the costumes that the Grandmother and Mrs. Petek wear
during the scene where the girls confront the latter for reporting their activities on the beach appear
very conservative. Adult characters are often shot at a high–angle, which is intended to create the
representation of them having significant authority over the younger protagonist. These are some of
the ways in which political and historical contexts are reflected through film form.
The film also utilises film form to reflect cultural contexts, as shown during the first wedding
sequence. Sound is used to emphasise how traditional Selma's wedding is–the music being played
sounds very typical of the setting, and Erol even fires gunshots during the scene (more than is
necessary, reflecting his obnoxious nature, providing key character information to the spectator in
the process). The significant prop of the gun perhaps foreshadows the scene of Ece committing
suicide as a result of Erol sexually abusing her. The gunshot SFX are louder in that scene, connoting
its importance in the narrative. This, in turn, forms the reflection of another cultural context: the fact
that killing oneself is a sin in Islam–Erol appears more angry at such an act than upset at his niece
being dead (as shown through the actor's facial expression and tone of

It is my gut instinct to believe the victim because there is nothing at all to be gained by going public with a rape accusation except the humiliations of the justice system and public scorn. Only an estimated 2 to 10 percent of rape accusations are false. And to have sex with a woman who said she was blackout drunk, to do so with a friend – that is a crime, whether the justice system agrees or not. When it comes to sexual violence, I do not know what justice looks like; no one does. According to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, out of every 1,000 rapes, 344 will be reported to the police, 63 of those reports will lead to an arrest, 13 cases will be referred to a prosecutor, seven of those cases will lead to a felony conviction and six of those perpetrators will serve prison time. In the movie Pi, this question is explored through an intriguing, intense, thought–provoking plot, which leaves the viewer pondering its contents and ideas for hours afterwards. The movie Pi was written and directed by the young producer Darren Aronofsky. As his first big film, Pi won him "Best Director" at the 1998 Sundance film festival. The true bizarreness of the film is shown in Max's insane hallucinations. The camera focuses in on Max's right thumb twitching and shaking until his whole body is overcome by a massive migraine. Throughout the film, Max is plagued by these headaches, each beginning with a camera close–up of his twitching thumb. The dramatic effect is intensified by a mess of techno, chaotic–sounding music until suddenly there is silence signaling the end of Max's pain and the beginning of his strange hallucinations. The ordeal is always ended by a flash of light, identical to the one he saw after his first headache at the origin of his genius. He narrates of his first headache at the age of six, caused by staring into the sun, leaving him blind for several days. When the bandages finally came off, he saw a bright light, which signified him being taken into a new state of understanding. . This incident gave Max his special ability to understand mathematics and his amazing grasp of the number theory. The movie contains several bits of narration like this by the main character, intended to give the viewer a feeling of probing into the very mind and thoughts of Max. • 7. Artemis Morley Essay Last April (2016) when I made my inaugural trip to the Artemis Film Festival, I came in contact with the works of a filmmaker that greatly intrigued me––Jill Morley. Although I didn't meet her nor screen her work at the festival, I have discovered that if Artemis promotes a filmmaker, it is worth my while to investigate the person. And that is exactly what I did. A few months back, Jill and I had the opportunity to chat, and in spite of her busy schedule, we briefly discussed her work within the indie film community, her various films and projects, and her "in–progress" works and future aspirations. RH: What caused you to go the route of making films? JM: Well, I started off as an actor. I wasn't getting cast as much as I wanted to, so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most recent one listed was Cris Cyborg, is that correct? Yes, that's a piece that I did for Vice magazine. I was a host, and I helped produce it. I had been fascinated with her for a long time. I knew a friend of hers said she was very sweet and nice and actually girly, though a lot of people don't think that she's like that when they think of her. I reached out to her and did this small piece on her with Vice. I was very proud of our work. So between your two films Confessions of a Go–Go Girl and Fight Like a Girl, which one seemed to have the best reception do you think? It's hard to say. It's been so long between the films. The first film got into more festivals, and we got a broadcast distribution. But now so many more people are making films. I still don't feel like Fight Like a Girl has reached its full potential. When we do play at festivals or even at women's events, people are very responsive. They seem to respond strongly in very emotional ways. I noticed you because of the Artemis Film Festival this past April, and they kept mentioning you and your works. Oh cool! We were in that festival the previous year, and we won best ... • 11. The Australian Film Industry The Australian film industry is currently in a point of crisis due to the lack of audiences attending Australian films, hence creating a decline in the revenue received towards our national industry. However, this is not due to the lack of creative talent, it is rather the many underlying issues that don?t allow the Australian public with the awareness and accessibility of these films. These problems are within the distribution, marketing and funding of these Australian films, allowing the national Australian community to not seek for films made by people within their nation due to negative pre–conceived notions and the convenience of going to see a Hollywood Blockbuster. These issues are seen through the poor release of both critically received films, Jennifer Kent?s The Babadook (2014) and Hugh Sullivan?s The Infinite Man (2014), both not gaining a wide audience. Through these issues within the industry, Australian filmmakers have not been able to create the revenue needed for these films to branch out to be easily attained by the public. The poor distribution of Australian films has made it difficult for the public to view these said films, due to the lack of theatres screening the actual pictures. This contributes to the community of the Australian public to collectively be unaware of these films and leads to the small number of tickets sold in cinemas. Most people take a long time to answer this question, and more often than not, they answer is in a negative way. Indeed, World War II was a global war. It was the deadliest of any war in the human history. The war ended after six years of tough fighting and hardship. About 17 million people in the military were gone, and almost three times that number of civilians were dead. Millions more were injured, imprisoned, starved; and some were even deported and became refugees subjected to forced labor. Most of the countries were devastated by the war. On the positive side, many people rose to the challenge and demonstrated unprecedented courage, determination, endurance, diligence, cooperation, and a desire to prevail over evil and hardship. ... • 15. Film Festivals : The Most Pervasive Form Of Communication Film festivals are showcases that attract widespread global attention for films and people. People enjoy the chance for a community to interact in many ways: filmmaker to filmmaker, amateur to professional, and filmmaker to audience. Film festivals function as sites for the production, distribution, and exhibition of independent films from all over the world. Festivals are significantly important because they are promoting expression, art and culture. Film is the basis of all motion picture forms, and is the most pervasive form of communication and entertainment in the postmodern world (Tomaselli 5).These independent films have no true definition, but can be explained as distinguishable solely by their content and style and the way in which the filmmakers ' personal artistic vision is realized. Usually, but not always, independent films are made with considerably lower budgets than major studio movies (Wikipedia). Independent films are generally more creative at story–telling and different from studio films in their way of distribution, production, and funding. The creators of independent films are usually working with tight budgets, therefore making the movies shorter. Therefore, filmmakers utilize film festivals as their distribution channel: "They provide an opportunity for unknown filmmakers to get their movies in front of a real live audience and to have their films reviewed by professional critics. How To Write An Essay On Musical Theatre Miranda McKeon AHLISAApplication In my house, not a day goes by where you will not find me singing new show tunes I have found on youtube or a song a friend has told me about. Becuase of this, my older brother is constantly yelling at me to "stop singing" or "be quiet." I like to his frustration as positive reinforcement that I am improving on my projecting skills:) Theatre has always been such a significant part of my life as it occupies almost all of my time. There is just something so irresistible about getting up on stage or in front of a camera and sharing a meaningful story with the audience. I started my theatre journey at Stage Right, a local production company in town. It was there that I discovered my love for musical theatre and instantly knew that nothing else would satisfy my hunger to perform. The first time I stood up to audition for a solo I nearly blacked out due to uncontrollable neves. Standing here today it feels amazing to see how far I have come and what I have accomplished. The Wolfpack is a 2015 documentary that tells the story of the Angulo family, specifically the six movie obsessed brothers, and their life in a tiny New York City apartment. The Angulo brothers, all named by their Hare Krishna father for different iterations of the god Krishna, shared a six room apartment with their parents and older sister, Visnu. Their tight knit relationship developed in part from the isolation the family experienced during the boys childhood. During the film, they tell the camera how their father had the only key to the apartment and controlled their excursions into the outside world. "Sometimes we got out once a year," says Mukunda Angulo, "and one particular year we never got out at all" (The Wolfpack 2015). To compensate for this lack of interaction with the outside world, the brothers turned to movies, watching thousands of films during the years they stayed inside the apartment. Their story is unique and compelling. These brothers, despite– or perhaps because of– the conditions they were raised in, developed a strength and resiliency that allows them to be surprisingly well adjusted to modern American life. They now have Facebook pages and Instagram accounts, friends, love interests, and some have picked up Americanized names (Krisna is now Glenn, and Jagadisa goes by Eddie). His use of archival footage primarily captures his patients when they were healthy, and provides a striking contrast as they seriously discuss death towards the end of their lives. His use of candid long takes captures some of the most poignant moments of the film, including the final minutes of one man's life after taking the lethal drugs. Some critics claim that it is almost autobiographical of Baumbach's life and the painful and confusing experience he went through when his own parents were in the process of divorce. The most obvious central theme of the movie is divorce and the crisis it causes within the family as each member is attempting to rearrange themselves, both inside their heads and in the outside world. Looking deeper, the film can also be seen as a coming–of–age story of two young boys, one on the verge of his teen years and the other on the verge of young adulthood. Two accountants recently told me that the IRS is questioning (as they tended to do so years ago) whether filmmakers are hobbyists or professionals. They determine this on the basis of whether or not profits are made on a sustainable basis. Most obviously, one of the main issues facing our industry is supply and demand–too many people willing to work for low wages in an industry in which there is too little demand in comparison to what is produced. Certainly, the indie doc economy has been impacted by oversupply, due in part by lower barriers to entry created by myriad of technological changes, and an ever–changing media landscape. Let's look at the elephant in the room constructively, bravely, honestly and in the spirit of discovery. Before hearing the report on NPR today, I contemplated applying for the Ch4 BritDoc Fund. I read the following in small print: "We cannot give you the level of funding that TV provides. On average, we invest (please define) between £10,000 and £30,000 and the budgets our filmmakers work to are very pared down. More often than not (though this varies from project to project) this means you will be expected to put your time in for free or a nominal sum until the deficit is raised." The text continued: "When the Foundation invests (there's word again–see the text of Dan Cogan's well–intentioned but misguided Toronto Film Festival speech in IndieWire) in a film we fully come on board as Exec Producers." Another funder, Chicken & Egg, is also requesting Executive Producer credit on many of the films they support, e.g., "Pariah" has "Julie Parker Benello, Judith Helfand, Wendy Ettinger listed as Executive Producers.

We are to apply one of the nine film theories into our film choices and analyze it thoroughly in terms of mise–en scene, narrative structure, character interaction and any other criteria. For our film selection, we have gone through and watched a few international films which included Chinese films, Bollywood films and a few French films. When she grows up, she becomes a waitress in a small café run by a former circus performer. After helping a man rediscover his childhood Amelie decides to spend her life helping others. After a few encounters and helping several eccentric characters, Amélie becomes attracted to a man she meets named "Nino" who has an unusually hobby of collecting discarded photos. This past summer, I happened upon an indie film actress (and more) with an intriguing story, and I was quite ecstatic when she agreed to an interview. While my busy schedule has kept me from sharing it until now, Dawn Noel is definitely a thriving actress to follow into the new year and beyond. When we chatted, she told me about the inception of her career, her eventual turn toward acting and producing, and her endeavors for the imminent future. RH: Dawn, it 's great to be able to chat with you, and when I was looking up your story, I noticed you started out as a dancer. How long have you been dancing? DN: Well, I started out at the age of three, and I 've been dancing my whole life. I went to the High School for Performing Arts in Philadelphia, and then I got a BFA at the University of the Performing Arts in Philadelphia. Then I moved to New York, and I started out as a classical dancer doing modern dance with various dance companies. Most notable were Philadelphia 's Koresh Dance Company, Ballet Hispanico and Elisa Monte Dance companies. Shortly thereafter, the NYC and Metropolitan Opera Ballets hired me, and I slowly moved into doing Broadway shows. I was in The Lion King, quickly followed by In The Heights and Fame. and then I went on to touring with musical artists like Madonna and Jennifer Lopez With Kelly Rowland I knew I always wanted to make a transition to becoming an actress, so I started building those credits while I was dancing. I thought about supporting it, but I was so busy that I quickly forgot. That is until Michelle Muldoon contacted me personally. Once I read about the campaign and realized that I knew practically everyone involved, I had no choice but to contribute. However, I knew that positive press for a project like this is essential, so I also offered to interview Michelle, to which she quickly agreed. As the campaign enters its final days, enjoy reading a little about the creative genius behind this project and maybe even consider lending your support in some fashion. Picture Credit: Michael ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What are the benefits and challenges in indie film? Independent film is a life born of passion. You have to love what you do. The main benefit is that you control your work, decide who you collaborate with, and become fully actualized by the process. You get to tell the stories you want to tell. There isn't someone over your shoulder telling you what you can and cannot do. The main challenge though is financing: how to find it and how to work with very little of it. I've come to love this process. It's the creative version of the Wild West and the "anything is possible" mentality of independent film can be exhilarating. It appears that you have had a wide variety of experience in various roles––producer, director, writer, etc. What do you find the most interesting/fulfilling about each role you've played in the film process? I am a screenwriter, first and foremost. I love the solitude of the writing process: the introspection, the joy in that moment an idea comes to you and the pleasure in creating a web of interlocking characters and stories. Independent film is made for the multitasker. Directing is much like coaching, and I am a trained coach. I enjoy working with actors to bring about a rich realisation of story and character. It turns out I have a knack for producing, which is a bit ironic because it's my least favourite of the three disciplines. I'm good with details, and I don't fluster easily. For me, the joy in all of these roles is the

I admire John's outlook on film and the way he explores stories in unique and unusual ways. Moreover, the fact that he recognizes the value of being nice to everyone in the business and gleaning wisdom from the older generation causes John to rise even higher in my estimation. For him, filmmaking is a passion in which he tells a story in such a way that it causes the viewers to think in an unconventional way. And in a society where conformity is king and cookie cutter ideas are often lauded, his viewpoint is a breath of fresh air. While I have not had the opportunity to view any of his works to date, this is one time when reputation and what others say about a person carries a great deal of weight with me. I say that if Tammy thinks he's a fantastic filmmaker, a stellar person, and a true professional, that's enough of a recommendation for me. Therefore, I ask that all my readers consider visiting the links below and even perchance following him on social media. In the comedic short film, Standby, two cops are forced to go through something similar. From the very beginning, it's clear to the audience that Gary and Jenny are new partners, since Jenny begins asking Gary about his address. Gary appears to have a very serious personality, while Jenny is always smiling and having fun. She seems more relaxed and laid back, allowing viewers to detect opposite polarity between the two. Despite the neglection, short film is one of the perfect way to give short but strong impression about on issue that producer wants to talk about. I wanted to talk about how young second–generation Asian females feels like when living in United States trying to adjust in both Asian and American society. Short film seems a perfect way to show the dilemma young female deals with about her identify. Film in general can be good source to address current issue in easily approachable way. Because it is screen as a video, even those who are not educated enough to read may understand the purpose of the film without harm. The film follows five orphaned girls residing with their Grandmother and Uncle Erol in contemporary conservative Turkey; when they are spotted socialising with a group of males on a beach, they are trained in activities such as cooking that are seen as being the role of women in Turkey. The film uses the key elements of film form in order to achieve this and reflect other cultural and historical contexts. For instance, the costumes that the Grandmother and Mrs. Petek wear during the scene where the girls confront the latter for reporting their activities on the beach appear very conservative. Adult characters are often shot at a high–angle, which is intended to create the representation of them having significant authority over the younger protagonist. These are some of the ways in which political and historical contexts are reflected through film form. The film also utilises film form to reflect cultural contexts, as shown during the first wedding sequence. Sound is used to emphasise how traditional Selma's wedding is–the music being played sounds very typical of the setting, and Erol even fires gunshots during the scene (more than is necessary, reflecting his obnoxious nature, providing key character information to the spectator in the process). The significant prop of the gun perhaps foreshadows the scene of Ece committing suicide as a result of Erol sexually abusing her. The gunshot SFX are louder in that scene, connoting its importance in the narrative.
