Essay about Mad Men
AMC s 2007 premier of Mad Men coined the beginning of a television revolution. Viewers of the
hit program became captivated by every aspect of the show, from the retro designed setting to the
verbiage spoken by characters, Mad Men leaves audiences with an intense wonder to observe how
the story unfolds. Mad Menportrays the 1960s in a way the current generation has never before
seen and for our nation s elder generations it creates an extreme sense of nostalgia. While the
show s setting portrays the 1960s viewers have gained the ability to unravel many culturally
relevant references from both past and present times. Regardless of age, gender, social status or
ethnic background Mad Men reflects specific aspects viewers are able to relate... Show more content

This aspect of greed is greatly represented by all characters throughout Mad Men. In the opening
episode of Mad Men, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes , viewers discover the infamous Donald Draper
and the challenges he faces as a high powered ad executive for Madison Avenue s most prized
advertising agency, Sterling Cooper. Viewers see Draper visit his mistress, Midge, and after a
late night arrival and early morning departure its obvious Drapers intentions is nothing more
than physical relations. After Draper s departure from Midge s he is off to the office for his
usual work routine. Returning home audiences discover Draper is married with a picturesque
wife, home and children. This first episode of the series sets a tone of the greed and deceit
which Draper represents. Despite his highly acclaimed and acknowledged success, Draper is not
fulfilled with the seemingly perfect life he has built for himself. In another episode Marriage of
Figaro the Draper family is celebrating daughter Sally s birthday. Betty, Don s physically
flawless wife, requests he make a trip to the bakery to retrieve Sally s birthday cake. Upon his
journey Don decides not to return to the party leaving everyone disappointed, his family included,
for his own selfish reasons. Don has virtually zero regard for anyone but his own self s happiness.
Also another key representation of greed comes in the form of Pete Campbell, a new executive of
Sterling Cooper. Pete engages in relations with

Critical Analysis Of Their Eyes Were Watching God
Brian Sandoval11/11/17
Mr. AmorosoAP Literature Their Eyes Were Watching God LAP Topic 4 To find the elusive and
coveted treasure of love, a dauntless expedition is untaken into life s catacombs, scouring through
the tunnels and evading the traps that lurk in the shadowy corners. This journey can t be
completed without sorrow and suffering yet the marring of the soul from the journey can break a
person s resolve, ultimately believing that the treasure they once sought was merely a fable. Due
to being caught in the trap of despair and hopelessness, survivors mold a chitin from the pain
endured in order to shield themselves from additional pain, often reluctant to peer their head out of
their protective ward. At the same time, by hiding in the confines of a cocoon, they are unable to
view the opportunity and take the plunge once more that may finally reward their sacrifice. Janie
May Crawford, the protagonist of Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
, in her
youth and inexperience goes through many trials and tribulations in the search of love and what it
truly is. Janie paints a beautiful and naГЇve image of love as her dreams and hopes blind her from
reality. The experience garnered from her relationships with her three spouses, the illusion of her
youth is swept, remolding her painting into its true form. Janie, a young woman, began to dwell on

Edelman s Examination Of Earback Culture
The consequences of Edelman s theoretical explorations in No Future, and Dean s examination of
bareback culture in Breeding Culture have implications well beyond their initial purpose. Both
anthropological analyses of queer culture through the lens of psychoanalysis open a whole new
realm of theoretical discourse and radically decenter the theories of both Freud and Lacan. If one
can use anthropology and psychoanalysisto examine queer subculture, what other areas of
theoretical discourse can one apply this model to?
It is without exaggeration (or abuse of grammar) that I answer this question with an emphatic yes;
the same affirmation given by Derrida, Foucault, and countless other theorists searching for an

The real, the sexual instincts, and the organic cell are under the same heading because the real is
impossible to imagine, impossible to integrate into the symbolic order, and impossible to attain in
any way (Ross; quoting Evans and Bowie). It is the impossibility of the real that links it to the
sexual and death instincts (which are essentially the same thing), and the organic cell. To illustrate,
Heidegger s being towards death is the source of his foundational anxious attunement, but being
towards death is not the same as being towards the end (Heidegger 245). It is Heidegger s
distinction between knowing I will surely die someday, and I am dying right now that draws the
death instinct into agreement with the organic cell. This is to say that, while the biological need to
reproduce drives the death instinct, any awareness of the purpose (or expression) of this need
cannot be internalized. Likewise, one cannot be aware of their biological imperative (per the
organic cell) for immortality through reproduction; these desires and instincts are not repressed,
they are beyond the scope of human comprehension. Moving on to the next column, the imaginary,
the ego instincts, and the conscious cell are linked together as they lie within the realm of
unarticulated (but articulable) identifications and idealisations which are the building blocks of
fantasy and ego; it is the most

Media And Its Effect On Society
Since you know this world is a pure chaos in many forms in any name you can reference to. We,
Society, are the most distinctive cultural patterns and organized group of persons connected
together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes you
can name of. There is many problems are happening nowadays, which it seems worsen than in
the past generations. Most of problem causing I am seeing in this generation is Media itself are
playing a significant role in our society today. It is all around us, from the shows we watch on
television, the music we listen to on the radio, and to the books and magazines we read each day.
Television, Camera, Computers, and other large to small things are the goal to interfere to
numberless of different goals, strategies, and other existence by trying to set for the range from
entertaining to educating which end up in confusion big time. What I see is what media nowadays
are showing are mostly women, race oppression, sexism, and perfection. As you see what s
happening to women s equality are in the lack system from the past to today. To the point where it
is media causing a negative problem about women is where feminine beauty are presented in
almost all forms of popular media, barraging women with images that expose what is considered to
be the ideal body. So, that means it is called Feminism. There is another name is Feminist, which a

Substance Abuse Personal Statement
I have recently graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor s degree in Psychology
and a minor in Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies. I have also recently been accepted to
University of Houston Clear Lake s Clinical Psychology Master s program. My main areas of
interest are mental health issues and substance abuse issues. Therefore, my educational and
career goal is to be able to help people with these types of issues. The comorbidity of drug
addiction and other mental disorders has been a primary research topic for decades in the
psychology community. This trend is evident by the plethora of studies conducted regarding a
variety of combinations of substance addictions and mental disorders. I believe that being able to
find so many scholarly resources is extremely encouraging to novices in the field, such as myself,

For example, studies are frequently restricted to alcoholism as the drug due to the legal
complications involving other drugs. The legal status of several other drugs, such as heroin and
meth, make it difficult to study the mental health of those who are addicted to such substances.
Also, the stigmas that people who are addicted to drugs, as well as people who suffer from
mental disorders, face is excruciatingly crippling to the field of research. Due to current stigmas, a
meth addict with schizophrenia is not going to want to seek help for their own issues let alone

Criminal Copyright And Intellectual Property Laws
Criminal copyright infringement can come in many forms. Anything that has been created by one s
mind can technically be considered intellectual property. While the initial idea itself is not
something that can be protected by copyright law, patents and actual plans from ideas can be.
Many copyright cases are of a civil nature. This occurs when a person or organization feels their
intellectual property has been used without their consent and want either compensation or for the
accused party to cease use of the material.
While civil cases aim to make the offended party whole criminal cases are intended to penalize
those who break the law. Throughout time criminal copyright legislation and penalties have
changed. This is partially due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There seems to be no solid explanation of why this is. The No Electronic Theft Act, Digital
Millennium Copyright Act, and Digital Theft Deterrence and Copyright Damages Improvement
Act of 1999 are all aimed at decreasing the threshold for what counts as criminal infringement and
increasing penalties for criminal copyright infringement (Masnick, 2012). Mike Masnick wrote his
article in 2012 and the last law listed was enacted in 2008. Since this time there have been even
more shifts in how copyrights are infringed upon.
International Copyright Law When it comes to international copyright law things can get quite
complicated. To put things in the simplest possible terms, there is no one set of laws that govern all
intellectual property disputes around the world. Different countries have different rules on
copyrights and there are also different rules and levels of enforcement. There is however some
common ground among countries in the realm of intellectual property. This common ground comes
in the form of treaties. These treaties between territories help with both the protection of intellectual
property and enforcement against those who infringe upon copyrights. Copyright.gov, the United
States governments official website for information on copyright law list two treaties as being
principal in governing international

Duke Ellington Biography
Duke Elington Duke Ellington was an American jazz bandleader, composer, and pianist. He is

highest award, the Legion of Honor, while the government of the United States awarded him with
the highest civil honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He played for the royalty and for the
common people and by the end of his fifty year career, he had played over 20,000 performances
worldwide. He was the Duke, Duke Ellington.

While vacationing in Asbury Park, Duke heard of a good pianist named Harvey Brooks. At the end
of his vacation Duke sought Harvey out in Philadelphia where Harvey showed Duke some pianist
tricks and shortcuts. Duke now had a real yearning to play when he got home. Soon later Duke s
music career started.
Duke met Oliver Doc Perry and Louis Brown who helped teach him how to read music and
helped improve his overall piano playing skills. Duke found some jobs playing at clubs and cafes
in the Washington area. Three months before Duke graduated he dropped out of school and began
his professional music career.
Duke formed his own music group called, The Duke s Serenaders, in late 1917. Between 1918
and 1919, Duke made three important steps towards independence. First, he moved out of his
parents home and into a home he bought for himself. Second, Duke became his own booking
agent for his band. By doing that Duke s band was able to play through out the Washington area
and into Virginia for private society balls and embassy parties. Finally, Duke married Edna
Thompson and on March 11, 1919, Mercer Kennedy Ellington was born.

Case Priming Process Essay
Reloading is the practice of installing new primers, bullets and powder in previously fired
ammunition cases. The basic procedure of reloading is reletively simple, although powder and
case measurements can get fairly technical. There are a variety of ways to reload and a variety of
tools and equipment to do so with, in this report, I will cover the basic procedure of reloading
with the equipment that I use. The first step in the reloading procces is to clean the cases. This
task can be accomplished in several ways by using a case tumbler or with a super sonic cleaner.
Some people prefer to use both of these in specific proccess, I personally use a case tumbler. The
second step is to resize and decap the case. This is done with a loading... Show more content on

This too can be done with many tools and processes. I use a Lee auto prime tool. This tool
simply puts a primer in a case after filling the tool with primers, positioning the shell in the
holder and squeezing the lever. Priming cases is the most dangerous part of reloading and should
always be done with caution. Once the primer is installed, the powder can be put in the case. This
can be done many different ways but all procedures must be precise and accurate. It is very
important not to under or overload a case as this can cause firearm damage and or injury. Powder is
measured in weight by a unit called grains. I dispense my powder from a hopper with a variable
dispense amout. the powder is then measured and adjusted to the exaxt specified amount with a
gravity scale for safety precaution and is then funneled into the case. The final step of reloading is
seating a bullet. It is very important to seet the bulledt to the right depth as too deep or too
shallow can cause a pressure issues. The bullet is seated on the press with an adjustable seating die.
I seat my bullets to the standard lenght given in the manul. Each case should be measured and

Major Problems For The Livestock Industry Throughout The...
Introduction
Babesia parasites are obligate intraerythrocytic protozoa capable of invading a wide range of
vertebrate hosts, subsequently leading to serious economic problems for the livestock industry
throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world (Homer et al., 2000;
Uilenberg, 2006). Bovine babesiosis is mainly caused by two species of bovine intraerythrocytic
protozoan parasites, Babesia bovis and Babesia bigemina. Infected animals in an acute stage have
symptoms of fever, anemia, hemoglobinuria, and sometimes resulting in death. In contrast, those in
chronic stages may become chronic carriers without clinical signs. Human and rodent babesiosis
caused by Babesia microti has emerged as a life threatening zoonosis in the world (Kjemtrup and
Conrad, 2000). Although infection usually is asymptomatic, immunocompromised and elder people
develop mild to moderate fever, headache, body aches, fatigue, and anorexia. Importantly, B.
microti has been used as an experimental model for studying novel chemotherapy (Aboulaila et al.,
2012) and host immune responses, the understanding of which is a prerequisite for developing an
effective vaccine against
Babesia parasites (Yokoyama et al., 2003).
Although several attempts have been made to develop a vaccine against babesiosis, no vaccine has
yet proven to be completely effective in preventing Babesia infection. Attenuated live vaccines lead
to significant decreases in mortality; however, they do not prevent the infection or

How Water Is An Important For Our Lives
Thousands have lived without love, not one without water, W.H. Auden says. It is true that water
plays an important in our lives; nobody can survive without water. Importantly, water is a scarce
resource which means that society has insufficient productive resources to meet all citizens
needs. Once the scarce resource becomes more and more terrified, people will turn to limit the
usage. Since California has been dried for four years continuously and reached near crisis
proportion, on April 1, 2015, Governor Jerry Brown signed an executive order that will restrict
urban water usage by 25 percent to deal with the drought (Nagourney). The bill seems to make

in Johnson). Technically, farmers use 80 percent of water while cities use 20 percent (Johnson).
However, as Governor Jerry Brown claimed California to reduce water using by 25 percent, he did
not indicate agriculture (Johnson). Yet, Robert Glennon stated that For California to solve its water
crisis must also come from farmers. Definitely, with a huge water consuming, restricting agriculture
will conserve water more significant water than households water saving. Glennon points out that
By my calculations, even a four percent reduction in water consumption could increase by 50
percent the water available for municipal and industrial uses. Thus, to solve drought, California
should not restrict personal water use, but regulate agriculture instead.
Secondly, wisely using appropriate management, water in agriculture is one of the best ways to
control water instead of restricting personal water use. Agriculture consumes about 80 percent of all
water usages in California, and the primary water consuming in agriculture is irrigation. This
irrigation system helps lands that don t annually receive enough rainfall to be utilized for growing
plants. According to University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources Communication

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Extraction
Chapter Five
Discussion
Extraction is a process by which substances and active constituents are separated from the original
matrix, extraction process depends on many physical and chemical characteristics. Extraction is
divided into two types liquid phase extraction and solid phase extraction depending on the physical
phase of extraction agent(Rezaee et al., 2006). In our study, we have adopted liquid phase
extraction for several reasons. Firstly, simple, inexpensive, relatively precise and wide range
methods for separation, identification, and quantification of drugs, poisons, and herbal medicine.
Secondly, An equilibrium distribution is established by the ratio between two phases will be
influenced by the choice of the extracting solvent, the pH value of the aqueous phase and the ratio

extracts was 3.4 g in the fatted and defatted J. regia using microwave and soxhlet methods.
Whereas, the lowest efficient solvent for extraction was ethyl acetate as the total yield weight of
the extracts was only 0.74 g. The increase in the polarity of the extraction solvent has conferred a

Challenging Relationship Between English And Canadians In...
The Challenging Relationship between English and French Canadians in the 20th Century Due to
various historical factors, Canada is today considered an officially bilingual country. This means
that both English and French are considered the official languages of Canada. As a result of this
policy, all official documents and government services must be available in both English and
French for all Canadians. This all sounds very positive on the surface, but in reality, the relationship
between English and French Canadians has been extremely challenging throughout the years. In
fact, the challenges that have arisen due to these relations, have threatened the very unity and
survival of the country. This divide is evident in all facets of life, whether it was political,
economic, military, business and even in sports. This paper will examine the tensions between
English and French Canadathroughout the 20th century. It is important to first briefly examine the
history and origins of Canada as a country, before we can truly appreciate this divide between the
English and the French. It was during the 1500s when the first explorers from Europe discovered
North America. This newly discovered land was rich in natural resources hence many Europeans
began to settle. The majority of these settlers were from Britain and France. The French and
English fought for power, control and territory, eventually leading to the Seven Year War. The

The Importance Of Cholesterol
What is cholesterol?
Cholesterol is an organic molecule part of the classification of biomolecules known as lipids. It is
a sterol, or steroid alcohol, that is extremely important as it is a major structural component of the
cell membrane in animal cells and also a precursor for the production of steroid hormones, bile
salts, bile acids and vitamin D. Cholesterol is a waxy substance with the chemical formula
C27H46O, it consists of three 6 memebered rings and one 5 membered ring fused together, as well
as an alkane chain and an alcohol( OH) group which attributes to its slight polarity.
Why is cholesterol important in the body?
Cholesterol is present in every cell of the body, predominantly in the cell membrane but also in
other organelles such as the membranes of the mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticula. As a
component of the cell membrane it aids the maintenance of cell integrity and plays a part in cell to
cell communication which enables human functionality. The plasma membrane is composed of a
phospholipid bilayer, as the name suggests, phospholipids are lipids attached to a phosphate group
and they consist of a head that is hydrophilic and therefore polar, and a tail that is hydrophobic and

Descriptive Essay On The Road
It all started at my house, my safe place, if you will. I see my dog, she is excited for the ride. We
are about to start our journey, but we need to pack our bags. I am packing and my eyes are
drooping because it is early in the morning. I finally get done and we put our stuff in the car. I
get in and I hear the engine turning and then a constant buzzing sound, the car is on. 3....2....1....
We start our journey as we unite rubber to the cement. I roll down the window and take a deep
breath of fresh air. In the air I smell an absolutely disgusting stench. It is a pig farm to the west of
us. I roll my window up to avoid the bad smell. We are on our way to Arizona and I see a sign
telling me that we are at the border of Nebraska. The sign says, Nebraska ... the good life, and
there is a picture of a mountain and a red sun behind it. I roll down my window, knowing that we
are out of the smelly state of Iowa, and breath in fresh air again. I see a boring place, but it is
night so that might be why it looks dead. When we got to the motel to stay over night, I heard a
squeal. The noise was made by two cars who had raced down the road. We hustled into the motel
for we did not know the neighborhood or anyone in Nebraska. I am tired because I can t sleep
very much in the car. So I set all of my stuff down and flop in my bed to fall into a deep sleep. I
dreamt of being in the warm arms of Arizona. My dream was very comforting of course, but it
had to end sometime. We woke up still tired, so we went and had breakfast. The motel did not offer
much, but it was good enough for now. We get back on the constructed pavement and headstraight
towards Arizona. I was not looking forward to this ride, but we had to get it over with. Nebraska
is a long and boring state, I thought I would never leave the place. After waiting for what felt like
a decade, we got to Colorado. After a while, it felt like there was popcorn popping in my ear.
Then I realized it was because we were heading up hills. This was because we were heading
towards the mountains. The mountains were white on the top and what seemed like a very dark
blue. Colorado was colder than the other states, and we did stuff like horseback riding in the
mountains and ziplining. It

Essay Manipulation of Lyrics in Shakespeare s As You Like It
Manipulation of Lyrics in As You Like It
While it is a comedy of the turmoil of love and the experimentation with gender roles and identity,
William Shakespeare s As you Like It is a historical preservation of Renaissance music. The play is
fraught with spontaneous song and poetry, yet Shakespeare strategically manipulates these musical
elements. Specifically, the lyrics and poetry of the play function to establish a soundtrack and a
direct appeal to their Elizabethan audience, while providing Shakespeare with a valuable shorthand
for character development.
It is necessary to understand that music in Shakespeare s time functions as a complete renovation of
sound, voice, and function. Paul Brian emphasizes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

No enemy
But winter and rough weather (1 8).
While this song obviously functions to contrast the sharp melancholy of Jacques, Long suggests its
worthwhile placement on As You Like It s imaginary soundtrack: Its subject and structure suggest a
song suitable for singing by a convivial group. It is, perhaps, a drinking song appropriate for a
group of mock foresters to sing or to enjoy as listeners (143). This incorporation of a song that fits
into the popular communal genre while countering the woeful tone of Jacques is a rather cinematic
choice on Shakespeare s part. It likens him to almost a film director who makes choices on
effective musical selections.
We also must notice Shakespeare s choice of borrowed lyrics when considering the music of the
play as a soundtrack. Much like today s film moguls, Shakespeare seeks to include familiar lyrics
to attract attention to his work. In Act 3, scene 3, Touchstone spouts a fragmented verse: O, sweet
Oliver/O, brave Oliver/Leave me not behind thee [...] (82 84).
Pattison acknowledges that this fragment belongs to a popular Renaissance poem:

Essay on Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy
According to the website www.cpal/geocities.org, I found some valuable information to help me
with my report about exceptionalities in students. This website was almost like a tutorial that
walked step by step through the disability, causes, and treatments.
I found that in definition the words Cerebral Palsy are used to describe a medical condition that
affects control of the muscles. Cerebral means anything in the head and palsy refers to anything
wrong with control of the muscles or joints in the body. If someone has cerebral palsy it means that
because of an injury to their brain (that s the cerebral part) they are not able to use some of the
muscles in their body in the normal way (that s the palsy part). Children ... Show more content on

Changes in muscle tone let us move.
In this website I also learned that there are several types of CP. I wrote the different types below to
help understand each one individually.
1. Spastic Cerebral Palsy
If muscle tone is too high or too tight, the term spastic is used to describe the type of cerebral
palsy. Children with spastic CP have stiff and jerky movements because their muscles are too tight.
They often have a hard time moving from one position to another or letting go of something in
their hand. This is the most common type of CP. About half of all people with CP have spastic CP.
2. Ataxic Cerebral Palsy
Low muscle tone and poor coordination of movements is described as ataxic CP. Kids with
ataxic CP look very unsteady and shaky. They have a lot of shakiness, like a tremor you might
have seen in a very old person, especially when they are trying to do something like write or turn
a page or cut with scissors. They also often have very poor balance and may be very unsteady
when they walk. Because of the shaky movements and problems coordinating their muscles, kids
with ataxic CP may take longer to finish writing or art projects.
3. Athetoid Cerebral Palsy
The term athetoid is used to describe the type of cerebral palsy when muscle tone is mixed
sometimes too high and sometimes too low. Children with athetoid CP have trouble holding

Wildlife Welfare In Wildlife
Welfare in Wildlife For decades in America, a collision between environmental conservation and
urbanization has placed natural habitats and wildlife at risk. Today, in regions such as the Rio
Grande Valley, 95 percent of native habitat has been negatively affected by or lost to human
activities such as water diversions, agriculture, industrialization, and urbanization (USGS 7). This
habitat serves as crucial landscape to species that make the R.G.V. their northern and southern most
points in migratory and nonmigratory patterns. Unfortunately, environmental concern is often
disregarded, resulting in a decrease of wildlife populations that has led to threatened and endangered
species. Because of this, greater efforts must be made by conservation organizations to restore and
preserve native habitat, thus promoting wildlife welfare. As a conservationist for the U.S
Department of Interior, my regards towards wildlife welfare in public and private lands is strongly
supported by scientific research, economic impact, and legislature. Current administrative actions,
however, have been amongst the most threatening in years for environmental efforts, partly due to
administrative disregard for environmental changes and impacts. After the reassignment of
department secretaries earlier this year, republicans have introduced more than 60 bills attacking
public lands, weakening environmental safeguards on those lands, or turning over their control to
states and local governments

Statement Of Purpose Of The Naval Academy
The most difficult question every teenager gets asked is, What do you plan on doing after High
School? I always said, I want to see the world! I want to be successful in whatever career I
choose. When I contemplate why I say this, I come to realize that I live for the challenges in life.
I live to experience the entire world and to leave a legacy behind. A legacy that would be
remembered for generations. When I was a young child, I heard of the US Navy and the Naval
Academy from all the intriguing stories my grandfather used to tell me. He gave in depth
descriptions of the images he saw in the service. The sunrises that he experienced on the edge of
the Cua Viet River when assigned to Assault Craft Unit One. He describes the sounds of gunfire
zooming past his head and the birds chirping every morning. Since I heard these experience s, I
have been inspired to attend an academy and allow it to give me the chance to create my own
stories and experiences. The Naval Academy sparked a strong interest in me because it can give

Colonial American Identity
In Britain s eyes, Colonial America was nothing but another piece of land that earned them money,
but as it began to be acknowledged by other powerful countries for its self sufficient lifestyle, it
shaped an identity, ultimately becoming the strong, independent nation, it is today. However, it was
anything but easy for America to form in the first place. From 1765 to 1783, the American
Revolutiontook place and was overall, the process used to overthrow the oppressive British and
purge them from America. Britain s establishment of harsh policies concerning many freedoms,
political ideologies, and economic rights obligated the colonists to fight for their independence. The
American Colonies thought that they were ready and able to create a society with the power of
unity, supported by democracy and economic prosperities. The American revolution was eventually
instigated by the identity of American colonists of which evolved through the formation of unity,
political, and economic influences.
It was necessary that the settlements set aside their disparities unite amid the French and Indian

Rap Music And Its Influence On Society
Rap music has been around for many years and still has a powerful influence on today s society.
While rap music provides a voice to the voiceless not all rap music is positive. Rappers emphasize

high drop out rates and violence.... A sense of powerlessness to change conditions grounded in

African Colonialism During Post Colonial Colonialism
It is evident that European colonialism had deeply affected the political system within post colonial
Africa. One of the main leading legacies of colonialism that hindered the development of post
colonial African states would be the ethnic division and the state conflicts resulting from ethnic
rivalry after independence . Scholars would argue the weakness within African politics would be
due to creation of forty new states brought about by the European colonial powers in the Berlin
Conference of 1884 to 1885; which had artificial state borders within the continent having little to
none parallelism to reality. For example, Nigeria is clearly demonstrates that the legacy of the state
boundaries that had created new political entities carried. Moreover, with the colonies
compromising of many different religions, ethnic groups and languages, there were cultural
differences that had created ethnic divisions and rivalries which had been intensified after
independence in post colonial Africa. After Nigeria had become independent in 1960, the military
took over and the economic situation worsened, this had led to rising conflicts between the two
main ethnic groups, the Hausa and the Igbo, as to who should have power in the new country .
This was because Nigeria was a new political entity as it was a product of colonialismand being a
new political entity, it had no previous experiences beyond the control of the colonial powers. This

James Garfield, overall, had a big impact on the Civil War. He was known for his bravery during

Party Influence on Democratic Elections
According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, democracy is a government by the people. Merriam
additionally specifies democracy as the rule of the majority. In government, this definition may be
a contradiction. A classic democratic state is defined as a government in which the supreme power
is invested in the people which is exercised directly or indirectly through the use of elections.
However, according to the definition of Merriam Webster the power comes from the masses. In the
parliamentary democracy of the United Kingdomand Sweden either theory may be applied. In both
countries, the Constitution declares the people as the main source of public power. Nevertheless,
voters are hesitant to exercise their right of control through free... Show more content on

Therefore the opposition party has the chance to participate in legislative decisions before either

Subsequently, it has been criticized that the electoral system employed in Britain works only to the
advantage of large parties, the winning party in particular. This has in turn led to an over
represented government at the expense of third parties. This can be seen in recent general elections
where a single party emerged with clear majority legislation, then able to form a dominant
government. As a result, voter participation has been low. It appears to citizens that their vote does
not have much political weight when electing officials from minority parties. Thus, causes a low

Background
The Battle of Pea Ridge, also known as the Battle of Elkhorn Tavern, was a part of a larger
campaign to win control of Missouri during the Civil War. Seven months prior to Pea Ridge, the
Union had suffered a loss at Wilson s Creek. In an effort to gain footing after this loss, the Union
Army followed the Confederates south into Arkansas. The Union and Confederate Army s clashed
on 7 March 1862, ending in Union victory by the following day.
The Union Army (Army of the Southwest) The Union Army at Pea Ridge was lead by Brigadier

The Decision Between Quantitative And Qualitative Data
One of the most important parts of establishing a research design involves the decision between
quantitative and qualitative data. Each has its own strength and weaknesses that any successful
research design must account for. Perhaps one of the easiest distinctions between the two rests in
the sample size. While quantitative data normally involves a large n, or sample size, qualitative data
involves a much smaller sample size in comparison. This smaller sample size allows qualitative
researchers to focus more on each case, increasing the internal validity of the research, but limiting
its external validity. Quantitative based research designs reverse this. The large sample size of
quantitative data often makes it difficult for researches to establish causation among the
independent and dependent variable(s). The external validly of such designs usually offsets this
issue to some extent. Due to their large nature, and use of numerical data, quantitative research is
much more replicable when compared to their qualitative counterparts. Unfortunately, the struggle
between internal and external validity is a fundamental part of research. Even efforts to combine
the two methods to form a mixed methods research design ultimately fail to nullify the issue
completely. Keeping this in mind, a quantitative analysis is the most logical given the specific
research question and the data available. This chapter seeks to prove that there is a statistically
significant difference in

Essay on Campaign Finance Issues
GENERAL BACKGROUND INFORMATION
We are not a democracy, yet we do have a voice in our own government. Elections are the choice

heard; however, many interest groups and a few individuals seem to have a louder voice due to
campaign financing:
No U.S. official should be beholden to one or a few groups. And no group or individual should
have a greater claim on our elected leaders than any other. That s the way it should work. But it is
growing clear to more and more Americans that it doesn t (McCarthy 24).

Money is the most degrading, corrupting force in American politics today (McCarthy xi).
The idea behind fundraising for elections was a success at first, giving donors another way to
voice their opinions and open up the doors for communication once the elected officials fully
realized who they owed their position to. However, this went too far. Those whose candidate did
not win were left with an official who will accept the ideas of a past donor before any others. This
favoritism, while beneficial to certain donors, proves damaging to others. Also, when before, all
donated and spoke their mind, now only certain groups and people donate and not even all of them
speak their mind. The individual doesn t count anymore (McCarthy 25).

theories regarding the reasons he voted the way he did and why certain groups financially
supported his campaign. Scholars for thousands of years have pondered the question of whether it
was the chicken or the egg, which came first. In the case of campaigning and finance, such seems to
be the question. Because voters had the opportunity of watching his career before 1996, it s
practically impossible to be able to tell

In terms of increasing independent directors in corporate governance, SOX directed the Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC) to adopt rules that prohibit listings of companies that did not
have an audit committee. The audit committee must consist of independent directors, and if the
committee is in place but did not have enough independent directors, it must add more independent
directors to the board. In addition, at least one of the directors must be a financial expert as defined
by the SEC.
As for the liability of officers and directors, SOX expanded the scope of their legal obligation by
increasing penalties for violating securities law and creating new crimes for certain acts which
included securities fraud, obstruction of justice, and false certification of financial statements. This
part of the SOX act actually modified the current laws that had been in place by increasing the
penalties associated with civil and criminal violation of securities law. It also requires that all
compensation in terms of bonus or incentive based compensation and profit that is earned by
executive officers be returned to the company if these laws are violated.

Theories of Punishment
Theories of why we punish offenders are crucial to the understanding of criminal law; in fact it is
not easy to define legal punishment, however one thing is clear within the different theories of
punishment is that they all require justification.[1] There are many theories of punishment yet they
are predominantly broken down into two main categories. The utilitarian theory seeks to punish
offenders to discourage, or deter, future wrong doing. The retributive theory seeks to punish
offenders because they deserve to be punished due to their behaviour upsetting the balance of
society[2].

Throughout this survey, my educated guess on the students is whenever they listen to Hip Hop

Trifles In Susan Glaspell s A Jury Of Her Peers
A Jury of Her Peers, a short story written by Susan Glaspell in 1917, is an example of early
feminist literature. The female characters, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, are able to solve the
mystery of who murdered John Wright while their male counterparts could not. This short story
had been adapted from Glaspell s one act play Trifles written the previous year. The play consists
of the same characters and plot line as the story. In both works, Glaspell depicts how the men,
Sheriff Peters, Mr. Hale, and County Attorney, disregard the most important area in the house, the
kitchen, when it comes to their investigation. In the end, the women are the ones who find the
clues that lead to the conclusion that Minnie Wright, John Wright s wife, murdered him. Both of
Glaspell s female characters illustrate the ability to step into a male dominated profession by
taking on the role of detective. According to Critical Theory Today: A User Friendly Guide

Bullying In Cyberbullying
Nowadays, bullying is very significantly topic in the world. Huge amounts of students have
sacrificed bullying. According to the National Center for Education Statistic s research, over 5
million students who are 12 through 18 old has bullied in a school year in the United States.
(Lessne and Yanez) The government has been doing a lot of measures such as enacting the anti
bullyinglaw in each state and opening the website about bullying which runs by the federal
government. They also have spent a huge amount of their budget; however, bullying does not show
the sign of extinction. Bullying causes the national loss because bullying changes the victims life
entirely, increases the risk of self harming, raises the criminal rate, and spend a lot of money to
solve bullying by the government. Bullying destroys the victims life entirely. When the victims are
bullied, they fear to go. Moreover, their academic score goes down if they do not attend school
long term. The stopbullying.gov which are run by the U.S. Department of Health Human
Services states, the victim s academic score decreases because the victims tend to miss, skip, or
drop out of school. (stopbullying.gov) Moreover, bullying influences the victims longitudinally.
Alexandra Sifferlin, who is a writer for TIME Magazine states that people who were bullied were
two times less likely to hold down a job and also had difficulty maintaining meaningful social
relationships compared to those who did not experience bullying. (Sifferlin) They will lose self
confidence, and they dislike touching others; finally, they may lose the important opportunities
enter to the university and the company. According to Dieter Wolke and Suzet Tanya Lereya s
research, they state that the victims are hard maintaining their job, financial obligations, and
relationships. (Wolke and Lereya) Therefore, bullying cast a shadow the victim s life in the long
term. Bullying raises the criminal and suicide rate. When the victims are bullied, they cannot think
normally and desire to escape suffering. They also feel alone, therefore, they try to escape by
extreme wrong ways such as self harm, and suicide ideation. Debra Pepler, a professor of

Role and Functions of Law Paper
Role and Functions of Law Paper
Role and Functions of Law Law plays a significant role in the successful operation of business and
society (Bushman, 2007). Laws help to keep behavior intact and regulate standards. Law sets rules
and expectations. They also provide ways to dispute issues while serving as an enforcer. The law
allows individuals to enjoy freedom, live in a fair society, check government, and have justice. The
law is very complex, therefore understanding the law is very important. Without law, a country
would lack government and rules, which would prevent it from running effectively and efficiently

Laws allow society to differentiate between state laws and federal laws. According to Melvin, the
federal is superior to state laws and if a state law that conflicts a federal law is not effective
(2011). No laws within a society mean a society that has no control. Without laws, people would
fight more and settle disputes with violence and aggression. With laws in place to protect citizens
and their assets, they have peace of mind knowing that there is confidentiality, freedom, and
security. Confidentiality creates an atmosphere of trust and encourages peace and togetherness.
Freedom encourages creativity and gives people limitless potential to explore new ideas. Security
brings peace of mind to individuals by allowing them to feel safe about their surroundings. Role and
Function of Law in the Military The law is detrimental to the military. Without the law, the military
would be ineffective and unsuccessful. The law and charges to conduct business. The role of the
military is to protect the constitution of the United States. Military members are required by law to

C. Diff Research Paper
Infectious Diseases: Clostridium Difficile Colitis
Infectious Disease: Signs and Symptoms
Clostridium Difficile, or C. diff, is a common occurrence in hospitals. But how does one know that
they are in fact dealing with a patient with C. diff and not just diarrhea? It all lies in the symptoms.
C. diff diarrhea has a distinct odor. The patient also feels a constant urgency, a need to always go to
the restroom. The stool contains mucous. Beyond that, most patients will present with a low grade
fever, mild leukocytosis, hyperactive bowel sounds, and mild abdominal tenderness. (Headly, 461)
Causative Agents: Distinguishing Characteristics Clostridium difficile is both the name of the
bacteria and the illness. When referring to the illness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The answer is that it cannot. Clostridium difficile cannot. However, the diarrhea from the C. diff
can. To prevent it, one must work backwards, returning to the transmission of the illness. The
question is then how is it passed on to other people? The answer is simple: lack of proper
handwashing. By not properly washing the hands, the method of transmission become the nurses
hands. But that does not necessarily account for the spores found in the bedsheets. In that, one has
to realize that a patient with diarrhea may or may not have Clostridium difficile colitis. When that
is realized, great care should be taken with the bedsheets of that individual, by taking care not to
shake the sheets to prevent dispersal through the air. The nurse must then once again follow proper
handwashing procedures after disposal of the dirty linens. Nothing can affect the flora to prevent all
bouts of C. diff. That includes antibiotics, the number one cause of Clostridium difficile. But
because antibiotics are sometimes necessary for survival, the patient must be encouraged to intake
probiotics while on antibiotics. Similarly, if the antibiotics are not needed, the patient should not be
taking them. C. diff is a superbug, an illness that antibiotics cannot help. And by purposely taking
antibiotics for no need causes more problems than the patient should want to deal

Especially for people who travel for business. Both industries faced many challenge as well. The
report in both 2012 and 2013 hotel industry is expected to have a steady RevPAR (Revenue per
available room). There is also an increase of 0.5 to 60.4 percent. It is mostly like that the hotel
business forecast for the next ten years will be more like to grow. In the restaurant market,
people consumed food every single day especially on the weekends. Restaurant forecasting is
used not only to calculate sales projections but also for predicting staffing levels and labor cost
percentages (Walker 2013). Restaurant consumers expectations these days are high. Most
consumers check out the menu online before their visit. They are also seeking a better nutrition
for themselves. We live in a society where there s plenty of food to go around. Many restaurants
now offer a variety of healthy food such as gluten free and low in carbohydrates. The guests are
paying more attention on what they eat. My opinion is both hotels and restaurants are here to
stay. I do have some friends who worked at some hotels in Washington, D.C. In winter time, the
demand for hotels in the area is very slow. So, what the company does is they will lay them off for
two months or so then have them return when return when it picks up again. So, what my friends
does is they file for unemployment for those months when they are laid off.

How Groups Can Develop And Function Systemically
Introduction
At first glance, one would assume that this book would be like other books that were designed to
repair work group issues either overly opinionated or disassociated with real world relevance s.
Creating effective teams was anything like the books I have read in the past, as a matter of fact,
the first six chapters was awe inspiring and thought provoking. The author gracefully transitions
each chapter beautiful, Chapter one set the tone for the other chapters by asking Why Groups ; the
methodology behind that forced the readers to think outside of the boxes not to mention it
smoothly transition to five other supportive Chapters. Chapter two described different ways
wherein larger organization could potentially aid groups to become more successful, whereas
Chapter three discusses how groups can develop and function systemically, while Chapter four
visibly frameworks the characteristics of productive teams; Chapter five and six diplomatically
define the characteristics of effective members and effective leaders, respectively.
Wheelan made it a point to transition each chapter effortlessly, whereas other authors would had
been reserved Wheelan didn t hold back any she provided intuitive information that depicted both
positive outcomes and negative outcomes. After reading through chapter six, I have to be honest
there were many intriguing information presented throughout the editorial however; from what I
have read I personally feel the topic that conversed

Causes of Genocide Essay
Genocide is an action that is not unique to any one set of specific circumstances. It knows no
bounds of time or location. From thousands or years ago to present day and on every civilized
continent, the eradication of entire groups of people has occurred. The current definition of
genocide was established by the United Nations in 1948: (a) Killing members of [a] group; (b)
Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the
group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d)
Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children
of the group to another group with intent to destroy, in whole or in... Show more content on

Perhaps one of the most relevant examples of genocide denial is in the United States history. It is
estimated that in 1500 there were some 12 million Native Americans living in North America, but
by 1900 this number had been reduced to 237,000 (Lewy). Yet while mass murders of American
Indians were all too common during this time period, Ward Churchill, in his book A Little Matter of
Genocide: Holocaust and Denial in the Americas 1492 to the Present, explains discussion of these
occurrences is limited in early education and the media to only a few events such as the 1864
Sand Creek Massacre and the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre so they may be dismissed as
anomalies (2). He also explains that this denial is furthered in two more fashions. The first is the
underestimation of the number of Native Americans living in North American prior to European
colonization because the deaths of people who never existed need not be explained (2). The
second is the image of the warlike and aggressive American Indian, which permits the murders of
such savages to be portrayed as defensive and necessary when the true source of Native American
aggression was more likely due to settlers ceaselessly encroaching on their homelands (3). Churchill
likens this scenario to a hypothetical German victory during World War II, When the Poles, led by
sullen Jewish chiefs,

Relationship Between The United States And The Cherokee...
The United States and the Cherokee Indians
The debate over the legality of sovereignty and acquired lands from the native Americans,
specifically the Cherokee, has long been debated. The issues involved have included treaties, land
sold, and the right of the Government to physically enforce their rules on Indian land
quot;sovereignty quot;. This paper will examine the strategy used by the Federal Governments, the
State Governments as well as those of the Cherokee Indians. The three way relationship as well as
the issues will examine how the interpretation of the Constitution changed society prior to the year
of 1840.
The Cherokee Nation was the largest of Five Civilized Tribes of the southeast. They are a people
of Iroquois descent. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So when the British government had lost the Revolutionary war, by quot;right of conquest quot; the
United States won all of England s authority, which included rule over all of the people and land in
the Americas. By this reasoning, this rule extended to the Indians that were in fact living on their
land. But rather then defend (by another fight) the quot;right of conquest quot; against the Indians,
Congress wanted to conduct peaceful negotiations with them instead. This brought about the Treaty
of Hopewell in 1785 which historically was the very first treaty between the United States and the
Cherokee people. The treaty was in fact to promote friendliness and good relations between the U.S.
Government and the tribes. The reason also for the treaty was to protect the Cherokee from the
intruding states of North Carolina and Georgia. However the treaty was a failure because both
North Carolina and Georgia would not support it.
The American colonies were quickly expanding and the Federal Government realized that in order
to prosper they needed more land. The Government discovered it could regulate Indian land because
of a clause in the Constitution of the United States, which transfers quot;...sole authority over Indian

Impact Of Globalization On India s Economy
India is a nation that in recent years has been affected greatly by processes of globalisation. India
has truly felt the forces of globalisation as it has morphed the very nature of the nations economic
and societal processes.
Globalisation is defined as the integration between different countries and economies leading to the
increased impact of international influences on all aspects of life and economic activity.
In order to measure the impact of globalisation on India s economy one must consider the level of
economic development and growth in the nation, and also understand the difference between the
two. Economic growth refers to the increase in market value of the goods and services produced in
an economy over time. It is generally measured by Gross Domestic Product. Economic
development however, is a much broader term that refers to changes in overall well being and is
measured using a variety of quality of life indicators such as the Human development index. For
hundreds of years India has engaged in trade with far flung nations and as such globalisation is
not a foreign concept for the nation. However, in recent years as a nation that is quickly
emerging as a new economic superpower, globalisation has taken on an increasingly important
role in the economy. As of 2011, India accounted for 1.95 % of world trade , a figure that has only
come about due to forces of globalisation having an active impact on the Indian economy. India has
been forced to trade extensively

After taking the survey I learned that I was an Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging or ISTJ.
ISTJ s are known for keeping the rules and not liking things that have unclear rules. They also
hate when things or people have inconsistencies, or when people do not keep up their end of an
agreement. They love being apart of organized groups such as government, schools, the military,
and churches because they all have a set way of doing things and do not sway in their beliefs.
Their social skills are excellent because they are precise and to the point. Feelings are something
that ISTJ s have a hard time discussing, because feelings are random and out of their control. When
ISTJ s are learningsomething it has to be important and practical for bettering

Ancient Athenian And Egyptian Women
One of the most striking differences between ancient Athenian women and ancient Egyptian women
was the ability to hold positions of power. Egyptian women were monarchs and held other
positions depending on their social status. (Capel 1996, 176) Women were allowed to participate in
low ranking government jobs, especially during war when the men are off fighting and leaving
behind their positions. However, these positions were not kept for long because the men upon
return automatically earned their position back by being the superior sex (Watterson 1991,).
However, ancient Athenian and Egyptian women did have some similarities regarding their role
in society. They were both allowed to become priestesses and attend religious ceremonies, even
though there were different circumstances required at times. Low ranking government positions
were made available to them if their husbands and therefore, by extension themselves, were
considered to be upper class. Both were given the role as the main caretaker of the house in
aspects such as cleanliness and upkeep, as well as caring for the children. Limited citizenship or
none at all, depending on the husbands status in society, was granted to women in both ancient
civilizations (Schaps 1979, 4 16; Joust 1989, 9 18; Harris 1992, 309 321; Robins 1993, 56 156).
Both of these civilizations were patriarchies, causing a suppression of women throughout ancient
Athens and Egypt. According to Turner:
A patriarchal relationship is one in which

  • 2. Essay about Mad Men AMC s 2007 premier of Mad Men coined the beginning of a television revolution. Viewers of the hit program became captivated by every aspect of the show, from the retro designed setting to the verbiage spoken by characters, Mad Men leaves audiences with an intense wonder to observe how the story unfolds. Mad Menportrays the 1960s in a way the current generation has never before seen and for our nation s elder generations it creates an extreme sense of nostalgia. This aspect of greed is greatly represented by all characters throughout Mad Men. In the opening episode of Mad Men, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes , viewers discover the infamous Donald Draper and the challenges he faces as a high powered ad executive for Madison Avenue s most prized advertising agency, Sterling Cooper. Viewers see Draper visit his mistress, Midge, and after a late night arrival and early morning departure its obvious Drapers intentions is nothing more than physical relations. After Draper s departure from Midge s he is off to the office for his usual work routine. Returning home audiences discover Draper is married with a picturesque wife, home and children. This first episode of the series sets a tone of the greed and deceit which Draper represents. Despite his highly acclaimed and acknowledged success, Draper is not fulfilled with the seemingly perfect life he has built for himself. In another episode Marriage of Figaro the Draper family is celebrating daughter Sally s birthday. Betty, Don s physically flawless wife, requests he make a trip to the bakery to retrieve Sally s birthday cake. Upon his journey Don decides not to return to the party leaving everyone disappointed, his family included, for his own selfish reasons. • 3. Critical Analysis Of Their Eyes Were Watching God Brian Sandoval11/11/17 Mr. AmorosoAP Literature Their Eyes Were Watching God LAP Topic 4 To find the elusive and coveted treasure of love, a dauntless expedition is untaken into life s catacombs, scouring through the tunnels and evading the traps that lurk in the shadowy corners. This journey can t be completed without sorrow and suffering yet the marring of the soul from the journey can break a person s resolve, ultimately believing that the treasure they once sought was merely a fable. Due to being caught in the trap of despair and hopelessness, survivors mold a chitin from the pain endured in order to shield themselves from additional pain, often reluctant to peer their head out of their protective ward. At the same time, by hiding in the confines of a cocoon, they are unable to view the opportunity and take the plunge once more that may finally reward their sacrifice. Janie May Crawford, the protagonist of Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston , in her youth and inexperience goes through many trials and tribulations in the search of love and what it truly is. Janie paints a beautiful and naГЇve image of love as her dreams and hopes blind her from reality. The experience garnered from her relationships with her three spouses, the illusion of her youth is swept, remolding her painting into its true form. Janie, a young woman, began to dwell on thoughts of love and marriage as these new curiosities blossomed within her and spent her free ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Edelman s Examination Of Earback Culture The consequences of Edelman s theoretical explorations in No Future, and Dean s examination of bareback culture in Breeding Culture have implications well beyond their initial purpose. Both anthropological analyses of queer culture through the lens of psychoanalysis open a whole new realm of theoretical discourse and radically decenter the theories of both Freud and Lacan. If one can use anthropology and psychoanalysisto examine queer subculture, what other areas of theoretical discourse can one apply this model to? It is without exaggeration (or abuse of grammar) that I answer this question with an emphatic yes; the same affirmation given by Derrida, Foucault, and countless other theorists searching for an answer to the eternally sublime, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The real, the sexual instincts, and the organic cell are under the same heading because the real is impossible to imagine, impossible to integrate into the symbolic order, and impossible to attain in any way (Ross; quoting Evans and Bowie). It is the impossibility of the real that links it to the sexual and death instincts (which are essentially the same thing), and the organic cell. To illustrate, Heidegger s being towards death is the source of his foundational anxious attunement, but being towards death is not the same as being towards the end (Heidegger 245). It is Heidegger s distinction between knowing I will surely die someday, and I am dying right now that draws the death instinct into agreement with the organic cell. This is to say that, while the biological need to reproduce drives the death instinct, any awareness of the purpose (or expression) of this need cannot be internalized. Likewise, one cannot be aware of their biological imperative (per the organic cell) for immortality through reproduction; these desires and instincts are not repressed, they are beyond the scope of human comprehension. Moving on to the next column, the imaginary, the ego instincts, and the conscious cell are linked together as they lie within the realm of unarticulated (but articulable) identifications and idealisations which are the building blocks of fantasy and ego; it is the most ... We, Society, are the most distinctive cultural patterns and organized group of persons connected together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes you can name of. There is many problems are happening nowadays, which it seems worsen than in the past generations. Most of problem causing I am seeing in this generation is Media itself are playing a significant role in our society today. It is all around us, from the shows we watch on television, the music we listen to on the radio, and to the books and magazines we read each day. Television, Camera, Computers, and other large to small things are the goal to interfere to numberless of different goals, strategies, and other existence by trying to set for the range from entertaining to educating which end up in confusion big time. What I see is what media nowadays are showing are mostly women, race oppression, sexism, and perfection. As you see what s happening to women s equality are in the lack system from the past to today. To the point where it is media causing a negative problem about women is where feminine beauty are presented in almost all forms of popular media, barraging women with images that expose what is considered to be the ideal body. So, that means it is called Feminism. There is another name is Feminist, which a person s belief that women are and should be treated as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have also recently been accepted to University of Houston Clear Lake s Clinical Psychology Master s program. My main areas of interest are mental health issues and substance abuse issues. Therefore, my educational and career goal is to be able to help people with these types of issues. The comorbidity of drug addiction and other mental disorders has been a primary research topic for decades in the psychology community. This trend is evident by the plethora of studies conducted regarding a variety of combinations of substance addictions and mental disorders. I believe that being able to find so many scholarly resources is extremely encouraging to novices in the field, such as myself, because it inspires them to learn more about and conduct more research on this topic.... • 7. Criminal Copyright And Intellectual Property Laws Criminal copyright infringement can come in many forms. Anything that has been created by one s mind can technically be considered intellectual property. While the initial idea itself is not something that can be protected by copyright law, patents and actual plans from ideas can be. Many copyright cases are of a civil nature. This occurs when a person or organization feels their intellectual property has been used without their consent and want either compensation or for the accused party to cease use of the material. While civil cases aim to make the offended party whole criminal cases are intended to penalize those who break the law. Throughout time criminal copyright legislation and penalties have changed. This is partially due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There seems to be no solid explanation of why this is. The No Electronic Theft Act, Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and Digital Theft Deterrence and Copyright Damages Improvement Act of 1999 are all aimed at decreasing the threshold for what counts as criminal infringement and increasing penalties for criminal copyright infringement (Masnick, 2012). Mike Masnick wrote his article in 2012 and the last law listed was enacted in 2008. Since this time there have been even more shifts in how copyrights are infringed upon. International Copyright Law When it comes to international copyright law things can get quite complicated. To put things in the simplest possible terms, there is no one set of laws that govern all intellectual property disputes around the world. Different countries have different rules on copyrights and there are also different rules and levels of enforcement. There is however some common ground among countries in the realm of intellectual property. This common ground comes in the form of treaties. These treaties between territories help with both the protection of intellectual property and enforcement against those who infringe upon copyrights. The basic procedure of reloading is reletively simple, although powder and case measurements can get fairly technical. There are a variety of ways to reload and a variety of tools and equipment to do so with, in this report, I will cover the basic procedure of reloading with the equipment that I use. The first step in the reloading procces is to clean the cases. This task can be accomplished in several ways by using a case tumbler or with a super sonic cleaner. This tool simply puts a primer in a case after filling the tool with primers, positioning the shell in the holder and squeezing the lever. Priming cases is the most dangerous part of reloading and should always be done with caution. Once the primer is installed, the powder can be put in the case. This can be done many different ways but all procedures must be precise and accurate. It is very important not to under or overload a case as this can cause firearm damage and or injury. Powder is measured in weight by a unit called grains. I dispense my powder from a hopper with a variable dispense amout. the powder is then measured and adjusted to the exaxt specified amount with a gravity scale for safety precaution and is then funneled into the case. The final step of reloading is seating a bullet. It is very important to seet the bulledt to the right depth as too deep or too shallow can cause a pressure issues. • 10. Major Problems For The Livestock Industry Throughout The... Introduction Babesia parasites are obligate intraerythrocytic protozoa capable of invading a wide range of vertebrate hosts, subsequently leading to serious economic problems for the livestock industry throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world (Homer et al., 2000; Uilenberg, 2006). Bovine babesiosis is mainly caused by two species of bovine intraerythrocytic protozoan parasites, Babesia bovis and Babesia bigemina. Infected animals in an acute stage have symptoms of fever, anemia, hemoglobinuria, and sometimes resulting in death. In contrast, those in chronic stages may become chronic carriers without clinical signs. Human and rodent babesiosis caused by Babesia microti has emerged as a life threatening zoonosis in the world (Kjemtrup and Conrad, 2000). Although infection usually is asymptomatic, immunocompromised and elder people develop mild to moderate fever, headache, body aches, fatigue, and anorexia. Importantly, B. microti has been used as an experimental model for studying novel chemotherapy (Aboulaila et al., 2012) and host immune responses, the understanding of which is a prerequisite for developing an effective vaccine against Babesia parasites (Yokoyama et al., 2003). Although several attempts have been made to develop a vaccine against babesiosis, no vaccine has yet proven to be completely effective in preventing Babesia infection. Attenuated live vaccines lead to significant decreases in mortality; however, they do not prevent the infection or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is true that water plays an important in our lives; nobody can survive without water. Importantly, water is a scarce resource which means that society has insufficient productive resources to meet all citizens needs. Once the scarce resource becomes more and more terrified, people will turn to limit the usage. Since California has been dried for four years continuously and reached near crisis proportion, on April 1, 2015, Governor Jerry Brown signed an executive order that will restrict urban water usage by 25 percent to deal with the drought (Nagourney). The bill seems to make sense by limiting the water when it becomes scarce. This order will affect some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... in Johnson). Technically, farmers use 80 percent of water while cities use 20 percent (Johnson). However, as Governor Jerry Brown claimed California to reduce water using by 25 percent, he did not indicate agriculture (Johnson). Yet, Robert Glennon stated that For California to solve its water crisis must also come from farmers. Definitely, with a huge water consuming, restricting agriculture will conserve water more significant water than households water saving. Glennon points out that By my calculations, even a four percent reduction in water consumption could increase by 50 percent the water available for municipal and industrial uses. Thus, to solve drought, California should not restrict personal water use, but regulate agriculture instead. Secondly, wisely using appropriate management, water in agriculture is one of the best ways to control water instead of restricting personal water use. Agriculture consumes about 80 percent of all water usages in California, and the primary water consuming in agriculture is irrigation. This irrigation system helps lands that don t annually receive enough rainfall to be utilized for growing plants. • 14. Challenging Relationship Between English And Canadians In... The Challenging Relationship between English and French Canadians in the 20th Century Due to various historical factors, Canada is today considered an officially bilingual country. This means that both English and French are considered the official languages of Canada. As a result of this policy, all official documents and government services must be available in both English and French for all Canadians. This all sounds very positive on the surface, but in reality, the relationship between English and French Canadians has been extremely challenging throughout the years. In fact, the challenges that have arisen due to these relations, have threatened the very unity and survival of the country. This divide is evident in all facets of life, whether it was political, economic, military, business and even in sports. This paper will examine the tensions between English and French Canadathroughout the 20th century. It is important to first briefly examine the history and origins of Canada as a country, before we can truly appreciate this divide between the English and the French. It was during the 1500s when the first explorers from Europe discovered North America. This newly discovered land was rich in natural resources hence many Europeans began to settle. The majority of these settlers were from Britain and France. The French and English fought for power, control and territory, eventually leading to the Seven Year War. • 15. The Importance Of Cholesterol What is cholesterol? Cholesterol is an organic molecule part of the classification of biomolecules known as lipids. It is a sterol, or steroid alcohol, that is extremely important as it is a major structural component of the cell membrane in animal cells and also a precursor for the production of steroid hormones, bile salts, bile acids and vitamin D. Cholesterol is a waxy substance with the chemical formula C27H46O, it consists of three 6 memebered rings and one 5 membered ring fused together, as well as an alkane chain and an alcohol( OH) group which attributes to its slight polarity. Why is cholesterol important in the body? Cholesterol is present in every cell of the body, predominantly in the cell membrane but also in other organelles such as the membranes of the mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticula. As a component of the cell membrane it aids the maintenance of cell integrity and plays a part in cell to cell communication which enables human functionality. • 16. Descriptive Essay On The Road It all started at my house, my safe place, if you will. I see my dog, she is excited for the ride. We are about to start our journey, but we need to pack our bags. I am packing and my eyes are drooping because it is early in the morning. I finally get done and we put our stuff in the car. I get in and I hear the engine turning and then a constant buzzing sound, the car is on. 3....2....1.... We start our journey as we unite rubber to the cement. I roll down the window and take a deep breath of fresh air. In the air I smell an absolutely disgusting stench. It is a pig farm to the west of us. I roll my window up to avoid the bad smell. We are on our way to Arizona and I see a sign telling me that we are at the border of Nebraska. The sign says, Nebraska ... the good life, and there is a picture of a mountain and a red sun behind it. I roll down my window, knowing that we are out of the smelly state of Iowa, and breath in fresh air again. I see a boring place, but it is night so that might be why it looks dead. When we got to the motel to stay over night, I heard a squeal. The noise was made by two cars who had raced down the road. We hustled into the motel for we did not know the neighborhood or anyone in Nebraska. I am tired because I can t sleep very much in the car. So I set all of my stuff down and flop in my bed to fall into a deep sleep. I dreamt of being in the warm arms of Arizona. My dream was very comforting of course, but it had to end sometime. We woke up still tired, so we went and had breakfast. The motel did not offer much, but it was good enough for now. We get back on the constructed pavement and headstraight towards Arizona. I was not looking forward to this ride, but we had to get it over with. Nebraska is a long and boring state, I thought I would never leave the place. After waiting for what felt like a decade, we got to Colorado. After a while, it felt like there was popcorn popping in my ear. Then I realized it was because we were heading up hills. Specifically, the lyrics and poetry of the play function to establish a soundtrack and a direct appeal to their Elizabethan audience, while providing Shakespeare with a valuable shorthand for character development. This incorporation of a song that fits into the popular communal genre while countering the woeful tone of Jacques is a rather cinematic choice on Shakespeare s part. It likens him to almost a film director who makes choices on effective musical selections. This website was almost like a tutorial that walked step by step through the disability, causes, and treatments. I found that in definition the words Cerebral Palsy are used to describe a medical condition that affects control of the muscles. Cerebral means anything in the head and palsy refers to anything wrong with control of the muscles or joints in the body. I wrote the different types below to help understand each one individually. 1. Spastic Cerebral Palsy If muscle tone is too high or too tight, the term spastic is used to describe the type of cerebral palsy. Children with spastic CP have stiff and jerky movements because their muscles are too tight. They often have a hard time moving from one position to another or letting go of something in their hand. This is the most common type of CP. About half of all people with CP have spastic CP. 2. Ataxic Cerebral Palsy Low muscle tone and poor coordination of movements is described as ataxic CP. Kids with ataxic CP look very unsteady and shaky. They have a lot of shakiness, like a tremor you might have seen in a very old person, especially when they are trying to do something like write or turn a page or cut with scissors. They also often have very poor balance and may be very unsteady when they walk. Because of the shaky movements and problems coordinating their muscles, kids with ataxic CP may take longer to finish writing or art projects. 3. • 21. Wildlife Welfare In Wildlife Welfare in Wildlife For decades in America, a collision between environmental conservation and urbanization has placed natural habitats and wildlife at risk. Today, in regions such as the Rio Grande Valley, 95 percent of native habitat has been negatively affected by or lost to human activities such as water diversions, agriculture, industrialization, and urbanization (USGS 7). This habitat serves as crucial landscape to species that make the R.G.V. their northern and southern most points in migratory and nonmigratory patterns. Unfortunately, environmental concern is often disregarded, resulting in a decrease of wildlife populations that has led to threatened and endangered species. Because of this, greater efforts must be made by conservation organizations to restore and preserve native habitat, thus promoting wildlife welfare. As a conservationist for the U.S Department of Interior, my regards towards wildlife welfare in public and private lands is strongly supported by scientific research, economic impact, and legislature. Current administrative actions, however, have been amongst the most threatening in years for environmental efforts, partly due to administrative disregard for environmental changes and impacts. One of the main leading legacies of colonialism that hindered the development of post colonial African states would be the ethnic division and the state conflicts resulting from ethnic rivalry after independence . Scholars would argue the weakness within African politics would be due to creation of forty new states brought about by the European colonial powers in the Berlin Conference of 1884 to 1885; which had artificial state borders within the continent having little to none parallelism to reality. For example, Nigeria is clearly demonstrates that the legacy of the state boundaries that had created new political entities carried. This can be seen in recent general elections where a single party emerged with clear majority legislation, then able to form a dominant government. As a result, voter participation has been low. • 30. The Decision Between Quantitative And Qualitative Data One of the most important parts of establishing a research design involves the decision between quantitative and qualitative data. Each has its own strength and weaknesses that any successful research design must account for. Perhaps one of the easiest distinctions between the two rests in the sample size. While quantitative data normally involves a large n, or sample size, qualitative data involves a much smaller sample size in comparison. This smaller sample size allows qualitative researchers to focus more on each case, increasing the internal validity of the research, but limiting its external validity. Quantitative based research designs reverse this. The large sample size of quantitative data often makes it difficult for researches to establish causation among the independent and dependent variable(s). The external validly of such designs usually offsets this issue to some extent. Due to their large nature, and use of numerical data, quantitative research is much more replicable when compared to their qualitative counterparts. Unfortunately, the struggle between internal and external validity is a fundamental part of research. Even efforts to combine the two methods to form a mixed methods research design ultimately fail to nullify the issue completely. Keeping this in mind, a quantitative analysis is the most logical given the specific research question and the data available. This short story had been adapted from Glaspell s one act play Trifles written the previous year. The play consists of the same characters and plot line as the story. In both works, Glaspell depicts how the men, Sheriff Peters, Mr. Hale, and County Attorney, disregard the most important area in the house, the kitchen, when it comes to their investigation. In the end, the women are the ones who find the clues that lead to the conclusion that Minnie Wright, John Wright s wife, murdered him. Both of Glaspell s female characters illustrate the ability to step into a male dominated profession by taking on the role of detective. According to Critical Theory Today: A User Friendly Guide written by Lois Tyson, a reader response critique focuses on an individual s response to a literary text. Reader response criticismmaintains that what a text is cannot be separated from what it does (Tyson 170). There are several different approaches to reader response theory that I would be applying, such as transactional reader response theory and affective stylistics. Firstly, transactional reader response theory analyzes the transaction between text and reader in which the text stimulates the feelings, associations, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Bullying In Cyberbullying Nowadays, bullying is very significantly topic in the world. Huge amounts of students have sacrificed bullying. According to the National Center for Education Statistic s research, over 5 million students who are 12 through 18 old has bullied in a school year in the United States. (Lessne and Yanez) The government has been doing a lot of measures such as enacting the anti bullyinglaw in each state and opening the website about bullying which runs by the federal government. They also have spent a huge amount of their budget; however, bullying does not show the sign of extinction. Bullying causes the national loss because bullying changes the victims life entirely, increases the risk of self harming, raises the criminal rate, and spend a lot of money to solve bullying by the government. Bullying destroys the victims life entirely. When the victims are bullied, they fear to go. Moreover, their academic score goes down if they do not attend school long term. The stopbullying.gov which are run by the U.S. Department of Health Human Services states, the victim s academic score decreases because the victims tend to miss, skip, or drop out of school. (stopbullying.gov) Moreover, bullying influences the victims longitudinally. Alexandra Sifferlin, who is a writer for TIME Magazine states that people who were bullied were two times less likely to hold down a job and also had difficulty maintaining meaningful social relationships compared to those who did not experience bullying. (Sifferlin) They will lose self confidence, and they dislike touching others; finally, they may lose the important opportunities enter to the university and the company. According to Dieter Wolke and Suzet Tanya Lereya s research, they state that the victims are hard maintaining their job, financial obligations, and relationships. (Wolke and Lereya) Therefore, bullying cast a shadow the victim s life in the long term. Bullying raises the criminal and suicide rate. When the victims are bullied, they cannot think normally and desire to escape suffering. They also feel alone, therefore, they try to escape by extreme wrong ways such as self harm, and suicide ideation. Debra Pepler, a professor of psychology at York University states that ... The patient also feels a constant urgency, a need to always go to the restroom. The stool contains mucous. Beyond that, most patients will present with a low grade fever, mild leukocytosis, hyperactive bowel sounds, and mild abdominal tenderness. To prevent it, one must work backwards, returning to the transmission of the illness. The question is then how is it passed on to other people? The answer is simple: lack of proper handwashing. By not properly washing the hands, the method of transmission become the nurses hands. But that does not necessarily account for the spores found in the bedsheets. In that, one has to realize that a patient with diarrhea may or may not have Clostridium difficile colitis. When that is realized, great care should be taken with the bedsheets of that individual, by taking care not to shake the sheets to prevent dispersal through the air. The nurse must then once again follow proper handwashing procedures after disposal of the dirty linens. Nothing can affect the flora to prevent all bouts of C. diff. That includes antibiotics, the number one cause of Clostridium difficile. But because antibiotics are sometimes necessary for survival, the patient must be encouraged to intake probiotics while on antibiotics. Similarly, if the antibiotics are not needed, the patient should not be taking them. C. diff is a superbug, an illness that antibiotics cannot help. And by purposely taking antibiotics for no need causes more problems than the patient should want to deal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is estimated that in 1500 there were some 12 million Native Americans living in North America, but by 1900 this number had been reduced to 237,000 (Lewy). Yet while mass murders of American Indians were all too common during this time period, Ward Churchill, in his book A Little Matter of Genocide: Holocaust and Denial in the Americas 1492 to the Present, explains discussion of these occurrences is limited in early education and the media to only a few events such as the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre and the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre so they may be dismissed as anomalies (2). He also explains that this denial is furthered in two more fashions. The first is the underestimation of the number of Native Americans living in North American prior to European colonization because the deaths of people who never existed need not be explained (2). The second is the image of the warlike and aggressive American Indian, which permits the murders of such savages to be portrayed as defensive and necessary when the true source of Native American aggression was more likely due to settlers ceaselessly encroaching on their homelands (3). The United States and the Cherokee Indians The debate over the legality of sovereignty and acquired lands from the native Americans, specifically the Cherokee, has long been debated. The issues involved have included treaties, land sold, and the right of the Government to physically enforce their rules on Indian land quot;sovereignty quot;. This paper will examine the strategy used by the Federal Governments, the State Governments as well as those of the Cherokee Indians. So when the British government had lost the Revolutionary war, by quot;right of conquest quot; the United States won all of England s authority, which included rule over all of the people and land in the Americas. By this reasoning, this rule extended to the Indians that were in fact living on their land. But rather then defend (by another fight) the quot;right of conquest quot; against the Indians, Congress wanted to conduct peaceful negotiations with them instead. This brought about the Treaty of Hopewell in 1785 which historically was the very first treaty between the United States and the Cherokee people. The treaty was in fact to promote friendliness and good relations between the U.S. Government and the tribes. The reason also for the treaty was to protect the Cherokee from the intruding states of North Carolina and Georgia. However the treaty was a failure because both North Carolina and Georgia would not support it. • 48. Impact Of Globalization On India s Economy India is a nation that in recent years has been affected greatly by processes of globalisation. India has truly felt the forces of globalisation as it has morphed the very nature of the nations economic and societal processes. Globalisation is defined as the integration between different countries and economies leading to the increased impact of international influences on all aspects of life and economic activity. In order to measure the impact of globalisation on India s economy one must consider the level of economic development and growth in the nation, and also understand the difference between the two. Economic growth refers to the increase in market value of the goods and services produced in an economy over time. It is generally measured by Gross Domestic Product. Economic development however, is a much broader term that refers to changes in overall well being and is measured using a variety of quality of life indicators such as the Human development index. For hundreds of years India has engaged in trade with far flung nations and as such globalisation is not a foreign concept for the nation. However, in recent years as a nation that is quickly emerging as a new economic superpower, globalisation has taken on an increasingly important role in the economy. As of 2011, India accounted for 1.95 % of world trade , a figure that has only come about due to forces of globalisation having an active impact on the Indian economy. • 50. Ancient Athenian And Egyptian Women One of the most striking differences between ancient Athenian women and ancient Egyptian women was the ability to hold positions of power. Egyptian women were monarchs and held other positions depending on their social status. (Capel 1996, 176) Women were allowed to participate in low ranking government jobs, especially during war when the men are off fighting and leaving behind their positions. However, these positions were not kept for long because the men upon return automatically earned their position back by being the superior sex (Watterson 1991,). However, ancient Athenian and Egyptian women did have some similarities regarding their role in society. They were both allowed to become priestesses and attend religious ceremonies, even though there were different circumstances required at times. Low ranking government positions were made available to them if their husbands and therefore, by extension themselves, were considered to be upper class. Both were given the role as the main caretaker of the house in aspects such as cleanliness and upkeep, as well as caring for the children. Limited citizenship or none at all, depending on the husbands status in society, was granted to women in both ancient civilizations (Schaps 1979, 4 16; Joust 1989, 9 18; Harris 1992, 309 321; Robins 1993, 56 156). Both of these civilizations were patriarchies, causing a suppression of women throughout ancient Athens and Egypt. According to Turner: A patriarchal relationship is one in which ...
