Pretty Good for a Girl: an Athletes Story The book Pretty Good for a Girl is a
biography on a cross country star and her rise to the top, but also her spiral
downward with her personal battle to win. Leslie Heywood was a long distance
runner with no weakness or fear. Heywood takes us through her early years filled
with eating disorders, sexual abuse, and an unhappy home life. It wasn t a drive to
win, but a drive to be accepted as one of the guys.
A big part of Heywood s story is how she wanted to be known as one of the guys. She
was trying to be the opposite from how her mother was, an abused woman in a
loveless marriage. She assumed that every girl would be like her mother. All women
are idiots, except for maybe Stevie Nicks. I know my mother is. She stays with my
father when I know we should leave, moaning and crying through more than just one
bruised face about love (Leslie Heywood, 76). Her escape was running with the guys
as if she was one. To her the only way to be a good runner was to run like a guy.

Childhood is often seen as a carefree time where children are able to grow and learn
from the world around them. Many people have fond memories of their time as a
child and would do anything to get it back. However, in Barrie s Peter Pan, childhood
is seen as a horror experience. This novel is read in stark contrast to Walt Disney s
popular movie version of Peter Pan. Disney s version shows three children on the
adventure of their life. But, Barrie s Peter Pan is the exemplar of the childhood
horror experience because of the actions of the characters of Mr. and Mrs. Darling,
the actions of the character Captain James Hook, and the dangers inherent of being a
child in this anarchistic place called Neverland. With a name like Darling one may
assume that the holder of that name would be an inherently good person. However,
this is not the case with the characters of Mr. and Mrs. Darling in Barrie s Peter
Pan. The behavior of these two characters toward their own children allows the true
childhood horror experience to be shown. For example, when Wendy Darling was
born, Mr. Darling s first action as a father was to calculate whether or not he and
his wife could afford to keep their infant daughter. With his wife still in bed, Mr.

When you first get into Comic con, you are giving your pass to freely roam about,
but you are also given a hefty booklet that provides you with a vast amount of
events that are taking place within the four days. However, there is an
overwhelming amount of things to do within those four days that you will not be

an evil being who can have physical and psychological aspects that add to the evil.
The most basic form of monster is physically unattractive and has general physical
deformities. These deformities included fanged teeth, large claws, and super

by the social limitations that everyone else does. Monsters excel in disguising

Imagine world that is bland, along with its individuals all the selfsame. In result of
the reprehension of creative courses in academia. That previously mentioned world
would soon become an actuality. When budget cuts were accruing in my school
district; I remembered my fine arts teachers were petrified that not only their
department would cease to exist but they would no longer have an occupation. There
is a constant reminder of how paramount the sciences and mathematics are; but the
fine artssuch as music, ceramics, art, and all the other courses that allow creative
freedom are important as well.
As in consequence of our troubling economy, budget cuts were inevitable. In the year
2008, more than eighty percent of schools nationwide had received budget cuts.
Music and theater classes were cut to the full extent along with some art programs.
Within the late 90s and early 2000s schools had theatre and dance classes available,
ranging in the twenty percentile. Currently, that percent has dropped drastically to
two percent. These are just brief statistics on the outcome of budget cuts and how
quickly the outcome is the demise of the fine arts in schools nationwide.
A student who does not enjoy the fundamental classes might not find interest in going
to school. The innovated minds that find tranquility in a music class or rather a basic
art class is more likely to look forward to attending school the next day. Fine arts
enhance the mind. It enhances what is already there or

The Impact Of Technology On The Accounting Industry
In today s society, people cannot imagine life without technology. Technology has
made life easier and has enabled individuals to do extraordinary things that were not
possible in the past. As of right now my future major and career is in the accounting
industry. Accounting has gone through many changes throughout the years. There are
changes with technology, new regulations and standards, and the uncertainty of the
economic market that may affect the accounting industry. The advancements of
technology have been one of the biggest changes around the world, and it is also
affecting the accounting world today. Futuretechnologies will change the way
accountants do their job, just like it has in the previous years. As the years pass, we
will advance in the electronic field and the accounting industry will continue to
advance with us. Modern technology is taking over traditional ways in accounting
and is changing it for the better. New technologies and regulations will affect the
future of accounting in a positive way by making the job easier with less room for
error and by giving more communication opportunities and better time management.
In the past, the entries were done manually and just one simple mistake could mean
hours of recalculations and going through checking the money again. Now, after the
computer programs, there is a lower margin for error and the mistakes are easier to
