Pat Frank’s Alas Babylon
* In The End, It Is Our Defiance That Redeems Us. Mark Rowland*
To the world you may be just another person, but to one person you may just be the world (Snyder,

failed politician that lives off his family s land in a small town, Fort Repose, in Florida. But For this
small town lawyer everything was about to change. The United States had been on edge of Nuclear
Warfare with Russia for years. Frank writes on about how one man, Randy Bragg, redeems himself

Things Fall Apart Rhetorical Analysis Essay
he narrative tone in the book Things Fall Apart is more indicative of an explanatory approach
especially when describing the Igbo culture. The style of the diction suggests a familiarity with the
subject that is not necessarily purposefully shown, but is evident in the way Achebe chooses his words
and how he describes events throughout the book. Throughout the course of the book Achebe
frequently uses African worlds and phrases to describe and show the different aspect of Igbo culture.
The familiarity in, which the narrative focuses on the African language creates a sense of authenticity
to the writing. What is unique about the narrative tone found within the book is that not only does the
author frequently insert the african language within the diction, but the way he translates or explains
the words in plain english so the readers who are unfamiliar with the language can still follow, for
example: Agbala do o o o! Umuachi! Agbala ekene unuo o ol It was just as Ekwefi had thought. The

He does this in a way that is not seem more catered towards younger readers, for there are aspects
within the text that are still rather vague proving Achebe knows what he is talking about, but does not
immediately assume others do not know as well. Additionally, the book is filled with a litany of richly
descriptive words that is not only used to describe the people and items within the book, but also
creates a type of imagery that is impressive yet concise, and example is this passage: The ancient
drums of death beat, guns and cannon were fired, and men dashed about in frenzy, cutting down every
tree or animal they saw, jumping over walls and dancing on the roof. It was a warrior s funeral, and
from morning till night warriors came and went in their age groups. They all wore smoked raffia skirts
and their bodies were painted with chalk and charcoal. (Achebe

How Did Culture Influence The Spread Of Serbia
THE KOSOVO BATTLE History of people: King Dusan the Powerful died in 1355 at the age of 48,
this surprised most people. Leading to a weakening of Serbia s central government. The young son of
Dusan Uros took over the throne and soon was killed. All of a sudden Vukasin Mrnjacevic proclaimed
himself the King of Serbia. During this time, Turks were advancing toward the Kingdom of Serbia. In
a battle on the river Marica in 1371, Vukasin was killed leaving behind a weakened, poor and torn
Serbia. Serbia was in desperate need of a talented statesman, rich in integrity and deserving of God s

Zelus Research Paper
Introduction
The exploration of Mars terrain is offering mankind even more incite into how our solar system was
developed in the past. There are still many sites that have yet to be explored. The region of Mawrth
Vallis is one of the oldest valleys on Mars. It was formed from cataclysmic floods and contains large
amounts of phyllosilicate. These are clay like minerals that only form in the presence of water. These
minerals can easily preserve microscopic life.
I am going to design a rover Zelus for the purpose of exploring this terrain. The rover is named after
the Greek God who is the personification of the term zeal. It inspired by the meaning of having intense
passion and enthusiasm for any endeavor. The rover will collect these minerals, explore different
aspects of the terrain, and discover any other potential information. The data gathered will in turn help
determine if this environment was sustainable for life in the past.

require the CO2 Acquisition and Compression (CAC) system component of it. The CAC will store the

the air to a physical state between a gas and liquid. This will in turn give energy to the CO2 turbine to
operate the rover and its instruments. Finally, it is cooled and repressurized once it has passes through
the turbine before coming back around. The carbon dioxide will circulate continuously in a closed

Rescuer Persuasive Essay
Every good citizen makes his country s honor his own, and cherishes it not only as precious but as
sacred. He is willing to risk his life in its defense and is conscious that he gains protection while he
gives it Andrew Jackson. This quote proves that a rescuer is willing to risk his life to save and protect
people from danger.
Yes, I think rescuers should rescue people even at risk. First, because it s their job, they get paid for
that. Second, because if they don t rescue people in need who will. Lastly, it s their duty, we need
heros and rescuers with brilliant machines to help those in need.
Rescuers are heros alive or dead but the fact they must accept is that people smart or dumb will climb
the mountain and take a risk, and rescuers have to be aware just incase somethings happens.
According to the text Everyone is aware of the risk....But actually, risk is part of the attraction it makes
it more of a test it gives you more to aim for ( Moreau, lines 56 58)This quote means that people will
take the risk no matter what and they take the climb as a challenge. This quote supports my claim
supports my claim because it explains how many people will climb Mt. Everest and take it as a
challenge, but rescuers are highly aware that a challenge can lead to danger if your not experienced.
There is also another problem facing some climbers: they may not be skilled enough. Nobody doubts

Wisdom Tradition And The Old Testament Essay
Wisdom Tradition is a term applied to the Old Testament books of Proverbs, Job, Sirach, Wisdom of
Solomon, and Ecclesiastes. Wisdom Tradition books all share characteristics and points of view that
are somewhat different than other biblical books. Wisdom tradition has very prominent characteristics
from other books in the Old Testament such as a search for the goal of life, how to master it and
questioning the problems of life, showing interest to human experiences that affect all people, joy of
creativity and creation, and very little interest in the great acts of divine salvation. These qualities
appear in a few books in the Old Testament. All of them show wisdom, but only some show both
wisdom and tradition. Books such as Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes values the beauty of creation and the
confidence of human life and nature. This was a new concept to Israel. They learned about wisdom
tradition through other nations. They were influenced from Mesopotamian literature and took their
ideas of meditations of sufferings and God s justice into their Old Testament Books. Suffering can be
seen in Job, but in the next essay and upcoming classes, we will be relating this to women suffering.
The wisdom perspectives did not replace the other two major strands of thought in Ancient Israel, that
of prophets and priests. It was simply a different focus that was complementary with the other
perspectives presented in the Bible. Wisdom Tradition presents many themes and characteristics

The Haunting Of Hill House
The Haunting of Hill House, by Shirley Jackson, revolutionized the horror genre of books. It started a
completely new trend in how horror books were written. Unlike previous books, The Haunting of Hill
House uses terror rather than horror to elicit fear and emotion from the reader and utilizes complex
relationships between the mysterious events in the house and the very different characters in the novel.
At the end of the book, the reader realizes that none of the questions that have been burning through
his or her head have been answered. Jackson refuses to shine a light in every corner, answering the
questions of her readers. Her original and (at that time) never before seen writing style caused readers
to speculate and create theories for their questions, one of which is what in the book haunts Hill
House? Because of this, readers from around the world have been theorizing what exactly stalks the
halls of Hill House and haunts the characters of the book sin 1959, the year the book was published.
There are hundreds of different theories, but in the end they all revolve around two smaller questions:
Was Hill House an entity that haunted its residents or was there something that haunted Hill House?
Before answering these questions, there is one question that all readers who know about Shirley
Jackson ask how was a loving wife and mother able to write such a dark novel that struck fear into
people s heart? To understand how she was capable of this, a deeper knowledge into

Comparing Akira Kurosawa s Yojimbo And Sergio Leone s A...
It is difficult to imagine that two nations as culturally distinct as the United States and Japan in the
1960s, could find any common ground. However, the similarities between Akira Kurosawa s Yojimbo
and Sergio Leone s A Fistful of Dollars are undeniable and yet both films reached similar levels of
success in their respective nations. In fact, the films were found to be so analogous that Kurosawa is
known to have sued Leone for the unlicensed production of his film. All of this aside, it is the
differences between each of these films that reveal the most about the cultural nuances between each
nation at the time. Although A Fistful of Dollars follows Kurosawa s plot line almost exactly, he fails
to capture the humour and self reflexivity that is pervasive throughout Yojimbo. Additionally, Leone
was forced to adapt his plot line in order to better suit the predominant use of firearms in his picture,
which in turn bore a clear influence on other key elements of the film. Moreover, his characterization
of the female roles in the story leave much to be desired as they present merely a shallow
interpretation of Kurosawa s characters. Over all, Kurosawa makes significantly bolder choices in his
film making style, flirting with different reflexive techniques in order to push the boundaries of
cinema, while Leone follows a more traditional path. In their respective introductory scenes, both
films somewhat obscure the plot similarities that are later revealed. Kurosawa presents

Case Study Of UBER
1. I see following situations in case of UBER:
a. Competing in emerging industries: UBER has entered lots of emerging markets recently to compete
against existing ride sharing companies. There is enormous trend of shared transport not only in
developed countries like the US, but also in emerging economies where the GDP per capita is below
$12000. Ride sharing is emerging in many countries like Chile, South Africa, India, Thailand and so
on. Ordering rides through application rather than call. And rides offered by drivers using their private
cars is emerging concept in many nations. UBER is using price cuts to attract the next layer of price
sensitive customers, also it is bundling the prices with UBEREATS to lower the price. As a result of
being in emerging industry, UBER is pursuing new customer groups by entering into new
geographical areas.
b. Companies in Industry leadership positions: UBER has been leader of ride sharing industry for 10
years. Its market share may have dropped from 93% in 2014 to 74% in 2017 due to competing
companies like Lyft, Curb, Gett and taxis, UBER is still the leader in its industry. The competitive

Unless you are weighing a pride for life, the fastest way to increase your competence in power lifting

After that, you should strive to get into the greatest weight class that you can achieve while

When you go up to weight classes, it may be less competitive for you for one or two years while

The Europeans Interpretation Of Civilization
The arrival of Europeans in the New World introduced a way of life that was unfamiliar to the Native
peoples. The Europeans interpretation of civilization was the opposite of the Indians. Europeans
regarded themselves as the superior beings. In a document, a Micmac composed a scathing response
to French criticism of Indian civilization. The Micmac testified, Though sayest of us also that we are
the most miserable and most unhappy of all men, living without religion, without manners, without
honour, without social order, and, in a word, without any rules [...] We consider ourselves nevertheless
much happier than thou in this, that we are very content with the little we have, and believe also once
for all, I pray, that though Armes 3 deceivest thyself greatly if though thinkst to persuade us that thy
country is better than ours (Calloway 50 51). This was the general consensus of Europeans at that
time, who believed that happiness was defined by power and materialistic goods. The Micmac speaker
affirms that although they are void of luxuries, they rebuffed the notion that they were inferior. A
Mowhawk named Joseph Brant scrutinized and rejected the colonists ways of living. In his reply, he
quips, But for what are many of your prisoners confined? For debt! Astonishing! And will you ever
call the Indian nations cruel? [...] Cease then, while these practices continue among you, to call
yourself Christians, let you publish to the world your hypocrisy (Calloway 180).

Private Property In John Locke s Second Treatise Of Society
Society can be structured in many ways. A good society requires mutual consent amongst its members,
and private property is at the root of earning this consent. In John Locke s Second Treatise of
Government, private property defines man as an individual, forces him into a society, and is his
instrument in achieving justice. It explains how man goes from existing in a state of nature to
participation in a social contract. Aristotle s Politics is concerned with how private property is closely
connected to the virtue of a city and the pursuit of a good life. Thomas More s Utopia satirizes the
ideal city because it completely abolishes private property. The author argues that this is possible in a
far fetched city, but it cannot bring order to a city that is already established. From these three works,
it is evident that private property is essential to the proper organization of a city because it allows for
individuality and development of the virtues. It is important that labor be involved in the claiming of
private property. Locke believes the earth is common property until a person exerts his or her activity
on it (18 20). It eliminates any doubt or quarreling over who has a right to what property (Locke 27).
Since it is labor indeed that puts the difference of value on everything, people are set apart by the
amount of unique effort they exert to obtain their property. This proves man is perfectly his own and
does not belong in common to others (Locke 29). Rather than

Health Promotion on Hepatitis Virus
My health promotion or prevention will take place in a college seminar at community college; I chose
this group of people because I realized many colleges make medical records mandatory for only
students in the health related courses and also freshmen living on campuses. I asked myself, what
about those other students who are doing other courses or major who may also be at risk. The main
purpose for viral hepatitis teaching is to inform the students of the importance or benefits from
vaccines to prevent hepatitis virus. This will take place in the school auditorium to get access to

After this teaching, students will be able to learn the following:

Baroque Period Research Paper
Baroque Period, during which a few of the greatest composers on this planet were born, brought
classical music onto a whole new level. The word Baroque , which came from the Portuguese for the
imperfect pearl , implies strange, extravagant and overblown. Toccata, fugue, chorale, ortario, and the
concerto Grosso, all of these special musical forms were created and represent this period. The six
main characteristics: increased emotional expression, contrast, use of basso continuo, continued
harmonic development, use of ornament, and the emphasis of improvisation, molded the unique style
of music of the Baroque period.
First of all, one of the most important characteristics of music in this period was the increased
emotional expression. During the Renaissance, emotions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At this period, composers rarely wrote out ornaments because they expected performers to add them
on their own. Thus, sometimes the same piece sounds different because performers add ornaments on
their own. Additionally, long treaties about proper usage of ornaments were written.
Finally, the last element is the emphasis on improvisation: the ability to extemporaneously compose
on an existing melody. This is often considered as a chance to show off for the performers. Through
improvisations and ornaments which were both elaborated by the extemporaneously composition of
performers added interest and differences between music and even the same piece of music might
sound different.
All of these elements constructed the unique structure and texture of the Baroque music. Without any
one of them, music would not be as interesting as it is now, and the signature of each composer and
characteristic of each piece would not be as different as they are now. Through understanding these
characteristics, one can further understand the texture of Baroque music and understand what the
composer thought while composing this

Speech On Optimism
Jon Jusufi 8th grade
Sir Winston Churchill once said: A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees
the opportunity in every difficulty.
If I think I cannot do something, after a while I will not be capable of doing it. And vice versa if I truly
believe that I can do something, I will try my best to do it. And this is not only about actions we are
capable of doing or not. Most importantly, it is about what we think we are. If you are an optimist you
love your life and think of yourself and the others around you as great people. If you are a pessimist
you do not really care about who you are and you do not give your life a meaning. Optimism makes us

It is in human nature to work and live together with other people and to give a part of ourselves to the
others around us. Optimism is very important here because an optimist tries to make the world a better
place by making the people better people. Optimists help everyone in their community as much as
they can in every possible way. Sometimes people just need to hear some good words and that is what
optimists are great at. You have probably heard the story about the one bad apple that turned all the
good apples bad. Optimism is the exact opposite because one optimist has the power to make all the
people around him or her to see life from a positive point of view. This is one of my favorite things
about optimism because optimists do not only help themselves, they help the world. And by helping
the world they help themselves because the people that you once helped will help you achieve your

Interval Training
One of the fastest ways to lose body fat and get a ripped body is by incorporating interval training into
your workout routine. Interval training involves periods of high intensity effort followed by recovery
periods of less intense physical activity. The benefits of such training include: 1. You will be able to
achieve more in each individual workout. The amount of high intensity work you can do in a session
increases, as you get a chance to recover in between. 2. You will increase the amount of calories you
burn. Interval training uses mainly carbohydrate rather than fat for energy, but because of its higher
intensity level it burns more calories overall. 3. You challenge both your aerobic and anaerobic energy
systems. This provides your

The Pieta Essay
El Greco ( The Greek ), also known as Domenicos Theotocopulos, was a painter, sculptor, and
architect of the Spanish Renaissance. El Greco was born in Crete in 1541, which was then a part of the
Republic of Venice, and the center of Post Byzantine art. He had trained and become a master within
that tradition and an icon painter. Among his great artworks, I would like to draw attention to PietĂ
(The Lamentation of Christ) , an oil painting. El Greco had painted this masterpiece about c.1565 70
in Italy, during the Cretan period.
El Greco, at the age of 26, like other Greek artists had travelled to Venice and came under the
influence of Titian and Tintoretto. During his stay in Italy, he widened his style with aspects of

It is a scene which is shown after Jesus was crucified, where his body has been removed from the
cross and his friends and family mourn over his body. Many artists have focused this scene by just
painting four people: the body of Christ, His mother, Saint Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea.
El Greco s Lamentation of Christ is a translation in paint of Michelangelo s late sculptured group of
the PietĂ  in Florence Cathedral, at the time in Rome. The pattern and the feeling are the same. The
figures of the Dead Christ, His Mother, Saint Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea make one
compact group. Michelangelo achieved this by his new treatment of form; El Greco by paint, by
employing broader, more continuous passages of color. The more vivid colors of Rome combine with
the richer palette of Venice to convey the intensity of expression demanded by the subject. The
horizontal composition of Venice, more suited to a narrative type of subject than to the single image, is
given up and is only very rarely found appropriate in Spain. Michelangelo s PietĂ  group was not the
only source on which El Greco drew: the arrangement of Christ s legs and his outspread arms, no less
than the idea of viewing one of the two bearers of his body from the side and the other from behind,
derive from Michelangelo s drawing for Vittoria Colonna, in which, as in El Greco s painting, the
Virgin is placed behind and above Christ. (Web Gallery of

The Outbreak Of Salmonella Heidelberg
(a)
In 2011 there was a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Heidelberg infections. There were a total of 190
affected individuals from 6 states [New York (109), New Jersey (62), Pennsylvania (10), Maryland
(6), Ohio (2), and Minnesota (1)]. Research showed a correlation between the outbreak and a
contaminated kosher chicken liver product labeled as kosher broiled chicken livers from Schreiber
Processing Corporation. This product is one that not ready to eat requiring cooking before eating.
According to investigations put forth by the CDC and FDA, consumers incorrectly assumed the word
broiled on the label meant the chicken liver was ready to eat. Additionally, laboratory testing
conducted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Laboratory Division
identified the outbreak strain of Salmonella Heidelberg in samples of the above mentioned product.
Once the specific bacterium was directly isolated and found to be present in the suspected food item, a
recall of the chicken livers was implemented.
This outbreak showed how important certain methods of prevention from foodborne illnesses are.
There are a few ways in which this outbreak could have been prevented. For example, appropriate
cooking temperatures, especially when cooking chicken liver is fundamental. Specifically, the internal
temperature of chicken liver needs to be 165 degrees F. Therefore, if the livers were being cooked
properly, then many of the ill individuals could have been

The Political Analysis Of Bernie Sanders s Case Of Trump
Learning from experts in Washington has only served to compound my worry that anti intellectualism
in the United States is an incredibly destructive force. Meredith Miller, an expert in trade policy, told
us that Trump s absurd action of withdrawing unilaterally from the TPP to create better deals with
Asian countries has scuttled aspirations for further liberalised trade agreements in the foreseeable
future. She was also very concerned that if Trump fulfills his promise to renegotiate NAFTA
(whatever that is supposed to mean) that the United States credibility would be permanently tarnished.
It was refreshing to hear Miller specify how the interests of the United States were being harmed by
these poor decisions. Over the past ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her response actually made me angry. I couldn t believe that she would have the audacity to be so
disingenuous. She began by reassuring me that Clinton was pro trade and did not subscribe to the
protectionism of Trump or Sanders. Then she said I was incorrect in asserting that Clinton had
opposed the TPP for political reasons. Confusingly, she rationalised opposition to the TPP by saying
that supporting it would actually be harmful to the pursuit of free trade in the long term. Apparently,
she thought that throwing support behind the Trans Pacific Partnership would antagonise anti trade
groups and cause them to become more politically active, eventually according them greater
representation in Congress. I would love to say that Rosenberger caused me to reflect and change my
views or assumptions on this topic (and it would have been useful in terms of this assignment if she
had!) but she failed to do so because her argument was not persuasive. In my opinion, it is absolutely
extraordinary for Rosenberger to claim that the United States withdrawing unilaterally from the most
sophisticated and broad ranging trade agreement in history could be construed as a positive
development for liberalised trade. What exactly does abandoning the TPP actually accomplish? Will it
somehow lead to a better or more expansive version of the TPP in the future? How can Rosenberger

Biblical Figures and Ideals in Shakespeare s Richard II...
Biblical Figures and Ideals in William Shakespeare s Richard II
William Shakespeare s Richard II tells the story of one monarch s fall from the throne and the
ascension of another, Henry Bullingbrook, later to become Henry IV. There is no battle fought
between the factions, nor does the process take long. The play is not action packed, nor does it keep
readers in any form of suspense, but rather is comprised of a series of quietly dignified ruminations on
the nature of majesty. Thus, the drama lies not in the historical facts, but in the effects of the situation
on the major characters and the parallels drawn by Shakespeare to other tales. The outrage felt by
Richard and his fellow royalists is not due from a modern sense of personal ... Show more content on

These characterizations fit perfectly into both the story and the underlying metaphor Shakespeare
creates.
Shakespeare utilizes both the actual language in the play and the events that take place on stage to
create a vast and moving religious parallel. The poetry of Richard II and the relationships explored
within it serve to bolster this parallel to unignorable heights. The characters in the play thus are not
only their historical counterparts, but also representations of biblical figures, predominately Cain and
Christ, making Richard II not only a retelling of facts, but also a morality play.
Of the many image strains in the drama, perhaps the one that asserts itself first in the reader s mind is
that of the blood stained ground. From act one to act five, this vision of blood spilling onto the soil of
England appears again and again until it culminates in the death of Richard, the king, in his own
country.
The horror of blood on the soil is not simply a dislike of violence or mess, but rather stems back to the
biblical tale of Cain and Abel. Cain, son to Adam and Eve, was a tiller of the ground (Gen. 4:2) who
murdered his brother Abel in envy of his belovedness to God. Cain quickly buries his slain brother and
when asked by God where Abel can be found, replies, Am I my brother s keeper? (Gen.4:9). God tells
Cain that He knows

Frances Ha Essay
Frances Ha, released in 2012, is a film primarily focused on a young quirky white girl named Frances
who lives in New York City and is trying to figure out what she is supposed to be in her life. The film
is edited together as a series of montages that display her appealing character moving through a dark
period in her life where she is having trouble functioning as an adult, to where she discovers and
embraces what is in herself that she excels at. Nearly all of the scenes in the film have Frances as the
lead subject, only cutting away from her to show activities that are proceeding around her. Greta
Gerwig s unique professional career and personal life made her perfect for the lead role as Frances, a
character full of hopefulness, spontaneity and quirkiness. Although Greta s performance appears on
the surface to be improvisational, an examination of her background, use of body language and

Acute Bronchitis And Common Respiratory Disease
Acute bronchitis is one of the most common diagnoses encountered in a primary care setting. It affects
millions of individuals resulting in significant impact on health of patients and health care industry.
Studies have shown that 90% of times acute bronchitis is caused by a virus, yet health care providers
are failing to treat or manage these patients with appropriate therapies (Knutson Braun, 2002). The
focus of this paper is to review the guidelines for treatment of acute bronchitis after differentiating
acute bronchitis from other common respiratory disease in terms of epidemiology, pathophysiology,
clinical features, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, complications and patient education. Understanding
the evaluation and treatment guidelines, nurse practitioners can provide evidence based practice for
patients with acute bronchitis. Epidemiology and significance of the problem Acute bronchitis is one
of the five top reasons to seek medical care in the United States. The incidence of acute bronchitis is
typically higher in fall and winter season, accounting for 82% of the cases (Fayyaz, 2014). It affects
full spectrum of population including any age group, gender and demographics. The incidence of
acute bronchitis accounts for 36 million office visits annually (Blush, 2013). Although it can be seen
in variety of patients, children tend to get acute bronchitis as many 6 times a year where as adults
acquire about two to four on average every year (Blush, 2013). These

Each of these catastrophes results in select politicians, and even President Barrack Obama, demanding
Gun control across the United States of America. Some anti gun activists desire stricter gun laws,
while other anti gun activists have acquired aspirations for a ban on all guns across the nation. They
claim that the Second Amendment is outdated, and that we will be safer in the complete absence of

Presidential Race coming upon us. This highly debated subject can be summarized into one question;
does gun control work? The first manner of business in discovering the answer to this question would
consist of analyzing the eligible statistics. Our nation s capital, Washington D.C., enacted some of the

Act of 1975. This act prohibited residents from owning handguns, automatic firearms, and high
capacity firearms. The Supreme Court, in 2008, ruled the act a violation of the Second Amendment
resulting in the regulations being dropped. Within the 33 year time frame that these firearm
regulations were being enforced, Washington D.C. experienced a drastic increase in violent crime.

Ethical Dilemm People Face Ethical Dilemmas
Ethical Dilemma Essay
People face ethical dilemmas every day. This brings to light what one s personal ethics are based on.
According to the lecture, In a CWV ethics are grounded in absolute and universal moral principles that
have been given by God. In modern culture, moral standards are subjective and based upon personal
preference (Lecture 16). In this essay a case study will be given and solutions to the dilemma will be
given from two different worldviews. The ethical dilemma I have chosen to write about is abortion. I
will first give the Christian worldviews opinion for this dilemma then I will give a naturalists

Richard say it is ultimately her choice but he suggests that she stops the suffering before it starts.
Core Beliefs
The core beliefs that would be relevant to this situation from a Christian worldview are you shall not
kill and God has a reason for all things. All life is precious. God created all things and He creates them
to His divine plan. God has a plan for that child even though he or she will have Down syndrome. God
says killing is wrong in the Ten Commandments and abortion is the same as killing someone.
Resolution
From a Christian worldview the solution would be to have the baby not and abortion. Abortion is
wrong in the eyes of God because it is an act of murder. All life is precious and when a women has an
abortion she is destroying God s perfect creation. That child is perfect in God s eyes even with the
Down syndrome. God has a will for that child.
Evaluation
If Susan decides to have the baby she will most probably have to quit her job and stay at home with
the child for the rest of the child s life. She will have to devote herself to the baby and always be there
for the child. According to Richard Dawkins, you would probably be condemning yourself as a mother

The Emancipation Proclamation made the blacks realize that the war for the Union must become a

Royal Stuart Family Influence On Macbeth
William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Macbeth was heavily influenced through its setting, characters,

family who ruled at one point and time. The name Macbeth is actually borrowed from a former king in
the Stuart Family named Macbeth, who took over the throne after coincidently killing his cousin, that
happened to be the King, and also happened to be named Duncan. Shakespeare may have taken the
names from history, but what transpired in the play between the characters of Macbeth and Duncan,

and the work as a whole. He utilizes Nora s sacrifice in order to uncover the humanitarian message
that is in the play. Nora s crime of forging her father s signature to borrow money and her later crime
of leaving her family reveals the transformation from her highly upheld value of family to individual
value and worth to convey that all people have rights and a voice to be heard. Nora sacrifices her
morals in order to save her husband, Torvald, from illness. She broke the law and forged her father s

The Importance Of Special Education
When I was a kid, I was not so good at writing because I had bad handwriting, poor speech, and was

my teachers put me into a special education class to improve my motor skills in my hands. I took that

made me both happy and sad to know that at least I have hands, arms, legs, and feet. Luckily for
Christopher, he now got some new prosthetic limbs when I left special education class and for what I
heard, he is living well now. You see everyone, Christopher still tried to get better at writing even
though he was disable, so there should be no reason you should not try to get better at least you have

narrator emphasizes her resentment towards her father in this poem, however, the speaker is unable to
conceal the fact that she loves him as well. As such, this poem is filled with raw emotional turmoil and
no clear ideological champion by the end.
One of the most striking things about this poem is the continuous metaphor Plath uses comparing the
speaker s father to a Nazi and the speaker to a Jew. This simile conveys to the reader the degree to
which the narrator has suffered at the hands of her father. The narrator indicates that she is not actually
Jewish in her use of simile here: she states that she is like a Jew (34), which implies that the speaker is
distancing herself from actual Jews. However, the speaker says she may well be a Jew (35) because
her father s words served as an engine Chuffing [her] off like a Jew [...] to Dachau, Auschwitz, Belsen
(33). In choosing to describe her relationship with her father as analogous to the holocaust one of the
most horrific, cruel, and inhumane events in human history the narrator conveys the feeling of being
tortured by her father. The narrator paints herself as a helpless victim by saying that she related to
people on trains to concentration camps. Although this is a gross exaggeration of the speaker s
circumstances, her use of this metaphor shows the undeniably intense pain the speaker experienced at
the hands of her father.
In addition to the animosity the speaker clearly has towards her father, another component
contributing to this disdain is fear of her father. In the first stanza, the narrator describes her father as a
black shoe/ In which [she has] lived like a foot/ For thirty years, poor and white,/ Barely daring to
breathe or Achoo (2 5). This is a telling metaphor because in the narrator describing herself as the poor
white foot in a black shoe, it demonstrates that she is unable to escape a constraint which should not
be forced

Peter Hennessy s The Office Of The Prime Minister
The Office of the Prime Minister is what its holder chooses and is able to make of it. (3) The quote by
H. Asquith, the British Prime during WWI, is the most accurate way to describe the content of Peter
Hennessy s book, The Prime Minister. The author argues that once at Number 10. Downing Street, the
office holder can lead the government the way he or she wishes. Hennessy adds that there has been a
large expansion in the power of the Prime Minister since 1945. The book primarily sheds light on 11
post World War II leaders and their own undertaking of the office.
The Prime Minister is probably the one book that anyone needs to read in order to achieve a complete
understanding of the British premiership. It takes into account all the possibilities and limitations
present in the job of being the Prime Minister. The book begins with emphasizing that ... Show more

He believes that she is given less credit than she deserves. However, he agrees that Mrs. Thatcher
wanted to lead the Cabinet as well as the government entirely by herself. Unlike Attlee who rarely
ever opposed other views or opinions, Mrs. Thatcher rarely ever asked for others opinion stating, As
Prime Minister I could not waste time having internal arguments. (401)
Although The Prime Minister is quite lengthy, the author manages to keep it focused and interesting.
He is able to show how different leaders can shape the office the way they wish. Although he
disagrees with people who believe that Britain has transformed into a Presidential system, Peter
Hennessey does think the office has changed enough for the PM to decide how he wants to lead. The
book has been a great aid in helping further understand class content and the politics of Western

Heteronormativity In Giovanni s Room
In the life alternating novel Giovanni s Room A group of men faces the long path of sexuality, in a
society that is not so gracious towards homosexuality. They live in a society/ culture that bows down
to heteronormativity, where you hide in allies and rooms to love whom sexes should love. The book
takes place in the 1950 s, which means if a man didn t meet up to society standards they were treated
as trash. Thus creating not only a clash in love, but also a clash in class rankings. Heteronormativity
and class inequalities where ultimately what lead up to Giovanni s tragic fate at the end of the novel.
Firstly, this paper will explain the concept of heteronormativity which lead to Giovanni s unfortunate
death. Giovanni found himself in love with a man who was too afraid to love himself, this man s name
was David. Throughout the entire novel David has internalized heteronormativity, he told the world he
was heterosexual; but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Right around the time he met Giovanni David was older and straighter than ever, at least he thought.

never lied but I know you ve never told me the truth why? (G137) . David internalizing
heteronormativity caused him to break Giovanni s heart and ultimately his own. You want to leave
Giovanni because he makes you stink. You want to despite Giovanni because he s not afraid of the
stink of love. You want to kill him in the name of all your lying little moralities. (G141) . David Knew
Giovanni was afraid to be who he is and that scared David. Eventually scaring him enough to leave

Aztec Culture And The Aztec Civilization
Aztec culture flourished in the highlands of central Mexico between the twelfth and sixteenth
centuries, AD. As the last in a series of complex urban civilizations in Mesoamerica, the Aztecs
adopted many traits and institutions from their predecessors such as the Maya and Teotihuacan. The
Aztecs also devised many innovations, particularly in the realms of economics and politics. Aztec
civilization was destroyed at its height by the invasion of Spanish conquerors under Hernando Cortés
in 1519. The Aztecs, like many other Mesoamerican cultures, used a limited form of writing that
consisted of pictorial representations painted on bark paper and animal hides. (Diego 8). The Aztecs
were a very religious group, many of their traditions and recorded history has been related to the
religion of the Aztec civilization. Even after the Aztec culture was dominated by the Spaniards,
religion was still a big part of Mesoamerican culture. Regardless of what happened to the Aztecs,
religion never strayed from them even if their beliefs changed. The Aztec empire stretched throughout
large portions of what is now Mexico and was powerful native empires that was created during its
time period, the Aztecs though were immigrants of this area. According to their pictorial histories the
Aztec peoples claimed to have migrated to central Mexico from a place in the north called Aztlan
(Diego 10). The Aztec immigrants arrived in central Mexico during a time of low population and
abundant land so it

Fall 2016
Introduction
My field placement will be at Child protective services in El Paso TX. My Target population for my
field placement will be Children who have been maltreated, neglected and abused. Child abuse
prevention has grown exponentially in El Paso over the past 31 years. In El Paso alone the Texas
Department of Family and Protective Services investigated 4,979 reports of alleged child abuse in
2014 in El Paso County. They confirmed that 1,339 children were indeed victims of abuse; 379
confirmed cases of Physical abuse, 166 confirmed cases of sexual abuse, 56 cases of emotional abuse
and 70 cases of medical neglect (Lee Beulah Moor,2016) A troubling trend has emerged regarding the
prevention of child maltreatment in the state of Texas. A tragic loophole contributing to continued
abuse and in many cases child fatalities, continues to be exploited to the detriment of one of our most
vulnerable populations. From 2009 to 2014, there were 800 child fatalities reported as abuse and
neglect deaths by Child Protective Services in all of Texas (Ball, 2015). An analysis of these cases by
an independent research group found gross errors by CPS and other agencies during ongoing abuse
cases enabled the abuse or neglect to continue, inevitably leading to death. Although the percentage of
child fatalities is just a tiny fraction of the exorbitant

Behavioral Finance By Daniel Kahneman And Amol Tversky
1.8. BEHAVIORAL FINANCE
The whole concept of Behavioural Finance was introduced by Daniel Kahneman and Amol Tversky in
late 1960s. They are called as the father of Behavioural Finance. Their observation began to kick off a
whole range of discoveries, with ramifications that investors cannot afford to ignore. Later, Tversky
and Kahneman began to uncover previously searched series of behavioural bias that causes investors
to act irrationally. In 2002, Daniel Kahneman received the Noble Memorial Prize for his contribution
to the study of rationality in economics. Understanding Behavioural Finance and how it affects the
markets is the key to a successful investment strategy.
Behavioral Finance is the new emerging science that explains the irrational behaviour of investors.

observable and human departures from rationality into models of financial markets and behaviour. It

William Shakespeare s Richard II
Shakespeare s history plays are not his most popular plays, but through them Shakespeare comments
on a controversial topic in a Christian England: the belief of a divinely appointed king. Under the rule
of Richard II, a troubled England began to question loyalty to a flawed but rightful and divinely
appointed king. The presence of Bolingbroke, a strong, popular leader who seemed much more fit for
the crown than Richard II, furthered the country s lack of confidence in Richard II. In Shakespeare s
earliest history play Richard II, Richard II presents a weak but legitimate king who faces against the
strong warrior Bolingbroke who wants the crown, even though he would be an illegitimate king.
When Shakespeare wrote Richard II, England ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people in the play are aware of this, but Bolingbroke decides to act on it. He correctly accuses
the Thomas Mowbray and Richard II of killing the Duke of Gloucester, and Richard II has both
Bolingbroke and Mowbray banished. This is confusing because Mowbray followed the king s orders
to kill the Duke of Gloucester, and it is an important point to remember when comparing Henry IV to
Richard II. These early actions of Richard II portray him as a slimy, unjust king who typically does not
gain the audience s support. As the play continues, Richard II continues to fail at being a just king.
Through Bolingbroke s father, John of Gaunt, the audience discovers that Richard has spent all of
England s money and has been leasing out royal land. Gaunt dies while Bolingbroke is banished, and
Richard II neglects the fact that Bolingbroke is the legal heir to Gaunt s possessions and takes all of
Gaunt s land to fund his army. The Duke of York warns Richard II about this decision and tells him
that it is illegal, but Richard II is an arrogant king who thinks he can do what he wants since he is
divinely appointed. At this point in the play, Richard II is more unjust than he was at the beginning of
the play, and he has committed actions that make it easy for the audience to side with Bolingbroke. In
the beginning of the play, Bolingbroke takes the role as the voice of the people. He recognizes that
Richard II is a corrupt king, and he acts upon this

  • 3. Things Fall Apart Rhetorical Analysis Essay he narrative tone in the book Things Fall Apart is more indicative of an explanatory approach especially when describing the Igbo culture. The style of the diction suggests a familiarity with the subject that is not necessarily purposefully shown, but is evident in the way Achebe chooses his words and how he describes events throughout the book. Throughout the course of the book Achebe frequently uses African worlds and phrases to describe and show the different aspect of Igbo culture. The familiarity in, which the narrative focuses on the African language creates a sense of authenticity to the writing. What is unique about the narrative tone found within the book is that not only does the author frequently insert the african language within the diction, but the way he translates or explains the words in plain english so the readers who are unfamiliar with the language can still follow, for example: Agbala do o o o! Umuachi! Agbala ekene unuo o ol It was just as Ekwefi had thought. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He does this in a way that is not seem more catered towards younger readers, for there are aspects within the text that are still rather vague proving Achebe knows what he is talking about, but does not immediately assume others do not know as well. Additionally, the book is filled with a litany of richly descriptive words that is not only used to describe the people and items within the book, but also creates a type of imagery that is impressive yet concise, and example is this passage: The ancient drums of death beat, guns and cannon were fired, and men dashed about in frenzy, cutting down every tree or animal they saw, jumping over walls and dancing on the roof. It was a warrior s funeral, and from morning till night warriors came and went in their age groups. They all wore smoked raffia skirts and their bodies were painted with chalk and charcoal. There are still many sites that have yet to be explored. The region of Mawrth Vallis is one of the oldest valleys on Mars. It was formed from cataclysmic floods and contains large amounts of phyllosilicate. These are clay like minerals that only form in the presence of water. These minerals can easily preserve microscopic life. I am going to design a rover Zelus for the purpose of exploring this terrain. The rover is named after the Greek God who is the personification of the term zeal. It inspired by the meaning of having intense passion and enthusiasm for any endeavor. The rover will collect these minerals, explore different aspects of the terrain, and discover any other potential information. • 6. Rescuer Persuasive Essay Every good citizen makes his country s honor his own, and cherishes it not only as precious but as sacred. He is willing to risk his life in its defense and is conscious that he gains protection while he gives it Andrew Jackson. This quote proves that a rescuer is willing to risk his life to save and protect people from danger. Yes, I think rescuers should rescue people even at risk. First, because it s their job, they get paid for that. Second, because if they don t rescue people in need who will. Lastly, it s their duty, we need heros and rescuers with brilliant machines to help those in need. Rescuers are heros alive or dead but the fact they must accept is that people smart or dumb will climb the mountain and take a risk, and rescuers have to be aware just incase somethings happens. According to the text Everyone is aware of the risk....But actually, risk is part of the attraction it makes it more of a test it gives you more to aim for ( Moreau, lines 56 58)This quote means that people will take the risk no matter what and they take the climb as a challenge. This quote supports my claim supports my claim because it explains how many people will climb Mt. • 7. Wisdom Tradition And The Old Testament Essay Wisdom Tradition is a term applied to the Old Testament books of Proverbs, Job, Sirach, Wisdom of Solomon, and Ecclesiastes. Wisdom Tradition books all share characteristics and points of view that are somewhat different than other biblical books. Wisdom tradition has very prominent characteristics from other books in the Old Testament such as a search for the goal of life, how to master it and questioning the problems of life, showing interest to human experiences that affect all people, joy of creativity and creation, and very little interest in the great acts of divine salvation. These qualities appear in a few books in the Old Testament. All of them show wisdom, but only some show both wisdom and tradition. Books such as Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes values the beauty of creation and the confidence of human life and nature. This was a new concept to Israel. They learned about wisdom tradition through other nations. They were influenced from Mesopotamian literature and took their ideas of meditations of sufferings and God s justice into their Old Testament Books. Suffering can be seen in Job, but in the next essay and upcoming classes, we will be relating this to women suffering. The wisdom perspectives did not replace the other two major strands of thought in Ancient Israel, that of prophets and priests. It was simply a different focus that was complementary with the other perspectives presented in the Bible. Wisdom Tradition presents many themes and characteristics ... • 8. The Haunting Of Hill House The Haunting of Hill House, by Shirley Jackson, revolutionized the horror genre of books. It started a completely new trend in how horror books were written. Unlike previous books, The Haunting of Hill House uses terror rather than horror to elicit fear and emotion from the reader and utilizes complex relationships between the mysterious events in the house and the very different characters in the novel. At the end of the book, the reader realizes that none of the questions that have been burning through his or her head have been answered. Jackson refuses to shine a light in every corner, answering the questions of her readers. Her original and (at that time) never before seen writing style caused readers to speculate and create theories for their questions, one of which is what in the book haunts Hill House? Because of this, readers from around the world have been theorizing what exactly stalks the halls of Hill House and haunts the characters of the book sin 1959, the year the book was published. There are hundreds of different theories, but in the end they all revolve around two smaller questions: Was Hill House an entity that haunted its residents or was there something that haunted Hill House? Before answering these questions, there is one question that all readers who know about Shirley Jackson ask how was a loving wife and mother able to write such a dark novel that struck fear into people s heart? To understand how she was capable of this, a deeper knowledge into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Comparing Akira Kurosawa s Yojimbo And Sergio Leone s A... It is difficult to imagine that two nations as culturally distinct as the United States and Japan in the 1960s, could find any common ground. However, the similarities between Akira Kurosawa s Yojimbo and Sergio Leone s A Fistful of Dollars are undeniable and yet both films reached similar levels of success in their respective nations. In fact, the films were found to be so analogous that Kurosawa is known to have sued Leone for the unlicensed production of his film. All of this aside, it is the differences between each of these films that reveal the most about the cultural nuances between each nation at the time. Although A Fistful of Dollars follows Kurosawa s plot line almost exactly, he fails to capture the humour and self reflexivity that is pervasive throughout Yojimbo. Additionally, Leone was forced to adapt his plot line in order to better suit the predominant use of firearms in his picture, which in turn bore a clear influence on other key elements of the film. Moreover, his characterization of the female roles in the story leave much to be desired as they present merely a shallow interpretation of Kurosawa s characters. Over all, Kurosawa makes significantly bolder choices in his film making style, flirting with different reflexive techniques in order to push the boundaries of cinema, while Leone follows a more traditional path. In their respective introductory scenes, both films somewhat obscure the plot similarities that are later revealed. Kurosawa presents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Europeans Interpretation Of Civilization The arrival of Europeans in the New World introduced a way of life that was unfamiliar to the Native peoples. The Europeans interpretation of civilization was the opposite of the Indians. Europeans regarded themselves as the superior beings. In a document, a Micmac composed a scathing response to French criticism of Indian civilization. The Micmac testified, Though sayest of us also that we are the most miserable and most unhappy of all men, living without religion, without manners, without honour, without social order, and, in a word, without any rules [...] We consider ourselves nevertheless much happier than thou in this, that we are very content with the little we have, and believe also once for all, I pray, that though Armes 3 deceivest thyself greatly if though thinkst to persuade us that thy country is better than ours (Calloway 50 51). This was the general consensus of Europeans at that time, who believed that happiness was defined by power and materialistic goods. The Micmac speaker affirms that although they are void of luxuries, they rebuffed the notion that they were inferior. A Mowhawk named Joseph Brant scrutinized and rejected the colonists ways of living. In his reply, he quips, But for what are many of your prisoners confined? For debt! Astonishing! And will you ever call the Indian nations cruel? • 15. Private Property In John Locke s Second Treatise Of Society Society can be structured in many ways. A good society requires mutual consent amongst its members, and private property is at the root of earning this consent. In John Locke s Second Treatise of Government, private property defines man as an individual, forces him into a society, and is his instrument in achieving justice. It explains how man goes from existing in a state of nature to participation in a social contract. Aristotle s Politics is concerned with how private property is closely connected to the virtue of a city and the pursuit of a good life. Thomas More s Utopia satirizes the ideal city because it completely abolishes private property. The author argues that this is possible in a far fetched city, but it cannot bring order to a city that is already established. From these three works, it is evident that private property is essential to the proper organization of a city because it allows for individuality and development of the virtues. It is important that labor be involved in the claiming of private property. Locke believes the earth is common property until a person exerts his or her activity on it (18 20). It eliminates any doubt or quarreling over who has a right to what property (Locke 27). Since it is labor indeed that puts the difference of value on everything, people are set apart by the amount of unique effort they exert to obtain their property. This proves man is perfectly his own and does not belong in common to others (Locke 29). Rather than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this period, composers rarely wrote out ornaments because they expected performers to add them on their own. Thus, sometimes the same piece sounds different because performers add ornaments on their own. Additionally, long treaties about proper usage of ornaments were written. Finally, the last element is the emphasis on improvisation: the ability to extemporaneously compose on an existing melody. This is often considered as a chance to show off for the performers. Through improvisations and ornaments which were both elaborated by the extemporaneously composition of performers added interest and differences between music and even the same piece of music might sound different. All of these elements constructed the unique structure and texture of the Baroque music. Without any one of them, music would not be as interesting as it is now, and the signature of each composer and characteristic of each piece would not be as different as they are now. Through understanding these characteristics, one can further understand the texture of Baroque music and understand what the composer thought while composing this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Speech On Optimism Jon Jusufi 8th grade Sir Winston Churchill once said: A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. If I think I cannot do something, after a while I will not be capable of doing it. And vice versa if I truly believe that I can do something, I will try my best to do it. And this is not only about actions we are capable of doing or not. Most importantly, it is about what we think we are. If you are an optimist you love your life and think of yourself and the others around you as great people. If you are a pessimist you do not really care about who you are and you do not give your life a meaning. Optimism makes us have dreams. Those dreams eventually turn into goals and to accomplish those goals we get perseverant, we care about the people around us and we try to live a healthy live. Optimism leads to perseverance. You have probably heard the story about the one bad apple that turned all the good apples bad. Optimism is the exact opposite because one optimist has the power to make all the people around him or her to see life from a positive point of view. El Greco was born in Crete in 1541, which was then a part of the Republic of Venice, and the center of Post Byzantine art. He had trained and become a master within that tradition and an icon painter. Among his great artworks, I would like to draw attention to PietĂ  (The Lamentation of Christ) , an oil painting. El Greco had painted this masterpiece about c.1565 70 in Italy, during the Cretan period. It is a scene which is shown after Jesus was crucified, where his body has been removed from the cross and his friends and family mourn over his body. Many artists have focused this scene by just painting four people: the body of Christ, His mother, Saint Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea. El Greco s Lamentation of Christ is a translation in paint of Michelangelo s late sculptured group of the PietĂ  in Florence Cathedral, at the time in Rome. The pattern and the feeling are the same. The figures of the Dead Christ, His Mother, Saint Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea make one compact group. Michelangelo achieved this by his new treatment of form; El Greco by paint, by employing broader, more continuous passages of color. The more vivid colors of Rome combine with the richer palette of Venice to convey the intensity of expression demanded by the subject. The horizontal composition of Venice, more suited to a narrative type of subject than to the single image, is given up and is only very rarely found appropriate in Spain. Michelangelo s PietĂ  group was not the only source on which El Greco drew: the arrangement of Christ s legs and his outspread arms, no less than the idea of viewing one of the two bearers of his body from the side and the other from behind, derive from Michelangelo s drawing for Vittoria Colonna, in which, as in El Greco s painting, the Virgin is placed behind and above Christ. Research showed a correlation between the outbreak and a contaminated kosher chicken liver product labeled as kosher broiled chicken livers from Schreiber Processing Corporation. This product is one that not ready to eat requiring cooking before eating. According to investigations put forth by the CDC and FDA, consumers incorrectly assumed the word broiled on the label meant the chicken liver was ready to eat. Additionally, laboratory testing conducted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Laboratory Division identified the outbreak strain of Salmonella Heidelberg in samples of the above mentioned product. Once the specific bacterium was directly isolated and found to be present in the suspected food item, a recall of the chicken livers was implemented. This outbreak showed how important certain methods of prevention from foodborne illnesses are. There are a few ways in which this outbreak could have been prevented. She began by reassuring me that Clinton was pro trade and did not subscribe to the protectionism of Trump or Sanders. Confusingly, she rationalised opposition to the TPP by saying that supporting it would actually be harmful to the pursuit of free trade in the long term. Apparently, she thought that throwing support behind the Trans Pacific Partnership would antagonise anti trade groups and cause them to become more politically active, eventually according them greater representation in Congress. I would love to say that Rosenberger caused me to reflect and change my views or assumptions on this topic (and it would have been useful in terms of this assignment if she had!) but she failed to do so because her argument was not persuasive. Biblical Figures and Ideals in William Shakespeare s Richard II William Shakespeare s Richard II tells the story of one monarch s fall from the throne and the ascension of another, Henry Bullingbrook, later to become Henry IV. There is no battle fought between the factions, nor does the process take long. The play is not action packed, nor does it keep readers in any form of suspense, but rather is comprised of a series of quietly dignified ruminations on the nature of majesty. Thus, the drama lies not in the historical facts, but in the effects of the situation on the major characters and the parallels drawn by Shakespeare to other tales. These characterizations fit perfectly into both the story and the underlying metaphor Shakespeare creates. Shakespeare utilizes both the actual language in the play and the events that take place on stage to create a vast and moving religious parallel. The poetry of Richard II and the relationships explored within it serve to bolster this parallel to unignorable heights. The characters in the play thus are not only their historical counterparts, but also representations of biblical figures, predominately Cain and Christ, making Richard II not only a retelling of facts, but also a morality play. Of the many image strains in the drama, perhaps the one that asserts itself first in the reader s mind is that of the blood stained ground. From act one to act five, this vision of blood spilling onto the soil of England appears again and again until it culminates in the death of Richard, the king, in his own country. The horror of blood on the soil is not simply a dislike of violence or mess, but rather stems back to the biblical tale of Cain and Abel. Cain, son to Adam and Eve, was a tiller of the ground (Gen. 4:2) who murdered his brother Abel in envy of his belovedness to God. Cain quickly buries his slain brother and when asked by God where Abel can be found, replies, Am I my brother s keeper? (Gen.4:9). God tells Cain that He knows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. A Doll House Sacrifice Essay In the play, A Dollhouse, Henrik Ibsen uses sacrifice as means for illuminating the characters values and the work as a whole. He utilizes Nora s sacrifice in order to uncover the humanitarian message that is in the play. Nora s crime of forging her father s signature to borrow money and her later crime of leaving her family reveals the transformation from her highly upheld value of family to individual value and worth to convey that all people have rights and a voice to be heard. Nora sacrifices her morals in order to save her husband, Torvald, from illness. She broke the law and forged her father s signature to borrow money to go South. She has feeling on one hand and belief in authority on the other and she choses her feelings (Ibsen Notes for, 1776). She is proud of this act or crime because it saved her husband. She comes to the realization that it does not matter how well off they are financially or the perfect appearance they have, but that individual freedom and identity are the key to happiness. In order to reach this, Nora must leave her family and home life. Nora s decision to leave her comfortable life is not an easy choice because not only was she is leaving behind her family, but she is also stepping into society s line of fire. She, like other brave people, chose to abandon these roles in order to realize their value as individuals (Atner 1794). • 41. The Importance Of Special Education When I was a kid, I was not so good at writing because I had bad handwriting, poor speech, and was bad at grammar and spelling. It started around my second grade; my handwriting was so atrocious that my teachers put me into a special education class to improve my motor skills in my hands. I took that special education class for about four to five years, I did improve my handwriting skill, but when I write too fast it could appear sloppy, but it is still better than before I had that class though. That class was pretty fun, me and my buddy, that was also was in my class, would practice writing, search for beads in putty, and play other types of games that involves using our hands. While in that class, I meet a kid named Christopher, he lost his arms and legs from meningococcal septicemia or meningitis, it made me both happy and sad to know that at least I have hands, arms, legs, and feet. Luckily for Christopher, he now got some new prosthetic limbs when I left special education class and for what I heard, he is living well now. You see everyone, Christopher still tried to get better at writing even though he was disable, so there should be no reason you should not try to get better at least you have hands he did not hands. During that time when I was in that special education class I was also in another special class to improve my pronunciation of words with the th sound. I always loved that class because my special education teacher was so nice to us. We would play ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Literary Analysis Of Sylvia Plath s Daddy Sylvia Plath, an incredibly renowned poet and novelist, is well known for her macabre, troubling, yet amusing works of literature. One of the hallmarks of this is her poem Daddy. In this poem, the speaker figuratively describes her relationship with her father through many caustic, abrasive metaphors. The narrator emphasizes her resentment towards her father in this poem, however, the speaker is unable to conceal the fact that she loves him as well. As such, this poem is filled with raw emotional turmoil and no clear ideological champion by the end. One of the most striking things about this poem is the continuous metaphor Plath uses comparing the speaker s father to a Nazi and the speaker to a Jew. This simile conveys to the reader the degree to which the narrator has suffered at the hands of her father. The narrator indicates that she is not actually Jewish in her use of simile here: she states that she is like a Jew (34), which implies that the speaker is distancing herself from actual Jews. However, the speaker says she may well be a Jew (35) because her father s words served as an engine Chuffing [her] off like a Jew [...] to Dachau, Auschwitz, Belsen (33). In choosing to describe her relationship with her father as analogous to the holocaust one of the most horrific, cruel, and inhumane events in human history the narrator conveys the feeling of being tortured by her father. The narrator paints herself as a helpless victim by saying that she related to people on trains to concentration camps. Although this is a gross exaggeration of the speaker s circumstances, her use of this metaphor shows the undeniably intense pain the speaker experienced at the hands of her father. In addition to the animosity the speaker clearly has towards her father, another component contributing to this disdain is fear of her father. In the first stanza, the narrator describes her father as a black shoe/ In which [she has] lived like a foot/ For thirty years, poor and white,/ Barely daring to breathe or Achoo (2 5). This is a telling metaphor because in the narrator describing herself as the poor white foot in a black shoe, it demonstrates that she is unable to escape a constraint which should not be forced ... • 49. William Shakespeare s Richard II Shakespeare s history plays are not his most popular plays, but through them Shakespeare comments on a controversial topic in a Christian England: the belief of a divinely appointed king. Under the rule of Richard II, a troubled England began to question loyalty to a flawed but rightful and divinely appointed king. The presence of Bolingbroke, a strong, popular leader who seemed much more fit for the crown than Richard II, furthered the country s lack of confidence in Richard II. In Shakespeare s earliest history play Richard II, Richard II presents a weak but legitimate king who faces against the strong warrior Bolingbroke who wants the crown, even though he would be an illegitimate king. When Shakespeare wrote Richard II, England ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people in the play are aware of this, but Bolingbroke decides to act on it. He correctly accuses the Thomas Mowbray and Richard II of killing the Duke of Gloucester, and Richard II has both Bolingbroke and Mowbray banished. This is confusing because Mowbray followed the king s orders to kill the Duke of Gloucester, and it is an important point to remember when comparing Henry IV to Richard II. These early actions of Richard II portray him as a slimy, unjust king who typically does not gain the audience s support. As the play continues, Richard II continues to fail at being a just king. Through Bolingbroke s father, John of Gaunt, the audience discovers that Richard has spent all of England s money and has been leasing out royal land. Gaunt dies while Bolingbroke is banished, and Richard II neglects the fact that Bolingbroke is the legal heir to Gaunt s possessions and takes all of Gaunt s land to fund his army. The Duke of York warns Richard II about this decision and tells him that it is illegal, but Richard II is an arrogant king who thinks he can do what he wants since he is divinely appointed. At this point in the play, Richard II is more unjust than he was at the beginning of the play, and he has committed actions that make it easy for the audience to side with Bolingbroke. In the beginning of the play, Bolingbroke takes the role as the voice of the people. He recognizes that Richard II is a corrupt king, and he acts upon this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
