Adolphe Quetelet, Johann Herder, And Alexis Tocqueville
In search for the perfect man, could it be we tend to find the average man? Throughout history there
has been many philosophers such as Adolphe Quetelet, Johann Herder, and Alexis Tocqueville, all of
which worked on theories and done research on man in society. Although their work has had
differences, there has been similarities that connect all three of these philosophers ideas together. As a
brief background, Herder expressed the history of man throughout his work. This history of man
portrayed survival tactics, emotional responses, human nature, and the consequences faced by man.
Tocqueville s work consists of the Democracy in America and the ultimate goal of an Indefinite

This allows us to comprehend how the gifts from nature were meant to be interpreted as well as how a
man forms to society and matures throughout the years of life. We can also see similarities in the work
of Quetelet and Tocqueville, in this quote by Herder. Tocqueville s work suggests an indefinite
perfectibility of man, which could also be interpreted in Herder s work. If nature was created not only
to satisfy man but also protect mankind from warfare, therefore it could be assumed that the
perfectibility of man, has already been achieved since the beginning of time. Every man is born into
nature, creating an equal opportunity for all, indirectly implying there s a natural tendency for equality
among all men regardless of race. This is where controversy occurs between Herder s work and
Tocqueville s, Herder believes that perfectibility of man has already occurred through nature s gift, but
Tocqueville believes there s racism, inequality, and an abundance of power among government, thus
preventing society from obtaining the ultimate goal of perfectibility of man. Although these two
concepts have created controversy, the similarities among the two are relevant. As stated, nature was
meant to create a perfect environment to sustain the needs of man, while maintaining conflicts and
preventing warfare, yet man is educated by man and

The Nature Of Cyber World
With the overwhelming increase in the number of people of using internet for their day to day work
and run businesses, it has become equally important to understand the nature of cyber world we are
living in.
The internet is currently being used for all sorts of activities such as browsing, messaging, music,
news and on top of it for financial transactions. This is the reason why many people are getting this
opportunity to misuse it for the purposes it not meant for i.e. for harming others by using internet tools
both in financial and personal terms. There are group of people on internet whose only job is to get
involved in such unlawful activities and make money by using other people s sensitive information.
One such cybercrime which is has gained momentum in the recent years is Phishing. In Phishing, the
hackers tries to obtain both personal as well as financial information of users by posing as genuine
websites/emails. This information is further used to bring financial and personal losses to victims.
In this assignment, we are focusing on the concept of Phishing, the way it is done, its impact and how
it can be prevented.
Definition and Description of Phishing

Use Of Nanomaterials On Civil Engineering- A Review
USE OF NANOMATERIALS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING A REVIEW
Abstract
Recently, the use of nanomaterials is increasing day by day in the various fields such as biomedicine,
automobile, electronics, robotics, construction industry etc. This is mainly because of unique
mechanical, chemical, electronic and optical properties of nanomaterials. Particularly, construction
industry may possibly be one of the chief beneficiaries of these materials, because the properties of
concrete, steel, glass and other building materials will improve with the applications of nanomaterials.
Therefore, the potential use of nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes, Cu nanoparticles, Ag
nanoparticles, TiO2, SiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2, and Fe2O3 nano oxides for enhancing the mechanical
strengths and durability of concrete have been explored in the current study. It has been observed that
the addition of nanomaterials would improve the corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance,
compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength etc. of cementitious composites. However, the
exact mechanism responsible for improvement in the characteristics of nano based cementitious
materials is not clear so far. Thus, more researches and investigations are required in order to use the
nanomaterials in civil engineering and construction sector effectively.
Key words: nanomaterials, construction industry, concrete, mechanical strengths, durability

Nanotechnology was first introduced by physicist Richard P.

Power In Lord Of The Flies
In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, young boys face challenges for safety or the seekage of power.
There are no adults on the island to show them the peaceful way to handle conflicts. Naturally boys
follow the power and some are left to fend for themselves. The author employs the perpetrators in the
novel seek power by provoking cruelty to their victims. The island was substantially peaceful when
Ralph, a later victim, called everyone on the island with a blow into a conch to bring them to the
meeting grounds for introductions. Littluns and biguns filed into the area; already seeking power, Jack
organized a group of his own that he led. The group discussed responsibilities and Jack concluded, We

After every kill, they would dance and chant in excitement, reenacting how the pig was killed. This
dance became a regular occurrence and brought out the tribes savagery, especially the night of a
horrible storm. Just before the storm, Jack killed a pig and fed his people, scaring the tribe by
pressuring them to eat fast, since they knew Jack had the power and could end their meal at any time
to start their ritual. Cruelty arose during the rituals; littluns being thrown into the middle allowed the
hunters to deal painful blows to ease all uneasy thoughts. With their minds hindered by excitement,
they thought the beast had come out of the woods and they pounced, not knowing it was Simon. The
author described this moment as, There were no words, and no movements but the tearing of teeth and
claws. (153). Ralph and Piggy realize their fate and felt secluded after Simon s death. They were
scared for their lives, knowing Jack will kill to maintain power. Making Ralph powerless, Jack builds
a fort to keep Ralph s ideas excluded. He lines the edge with armed watchers to warn if Ralph or
Piggy were near. Within the fort, anyone who does not follow Jack s rules will be tied up or tortured,
while Jack sits, watching. Everything in the fort was complete, other than a fire. Jack decides to attack
Piggy in the middle of the night for his spectacles. With a struggle, he managed to get the glasses,

Reflection And Educational Differences In The Educational...
When we started this eight week course about differentiation I already had a lot of background
information on this subject. I did learn a few things about how to help my colleagues jump on the
bandwagon of differentiation. By helping my fellow teachers change their mindset towards planning
with differentiation in mind I am making a positive difference in my students educational experience.
When differentiation is used properly students are taught lessons in ways that are both meaningful and
specific to the students educational needs. Differentiation is a great tool that teachers can use to help
decrease the educational gap between students skills and the grade level standards that they should be
meeting. For this class we had to create a lesson with differentiation in mind. For me this assignment
was easy because I already plan my lessons with differentiation in mind. What came naturally with
differentiation was differentiating for content, process, and product. Each station that I planned had
some sort of differentiation to help students understand the concept that was being taught. Including
these extra strategies was easy and did not add any extra time for me to plan. What I found to be more
challenging was differentiating with readiness in mind. With 50 plus students in my gymnasium I have
a wide range of skill levels. This means that I have to use my pre assessment data in order to figure
who might need more help and who can be pushed a little further to extend

Analysis Of Lucille Clifton s The Poetry Of A Negro
I continue to write since my life as a human only includes my life as a poet, it doesn t depend on it ,
Lucille Clifton. Known to most as Lucille Clifton, Thelma Lucille Sayles was born to Samuel L. and
Thelma Moore Sayles on June 27, 1936 in Depew, New York. Her parents were a New York steel mill
worker and a homemaker/launderer and lived in poverty. Clifton overcame adversity and earned a
scholarship to attended Howard University at the age of sixteen as a drama major, then in 1955 she
transferred to Fredonia State Teacher s College now known as Fredonia State University of New York.
She was introduced to her husband by Ishmael Reed, an author, poet, and activist, who later took her
poems to Langston Hughes in 1966 to be included in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recurring themes in her poetry are embracing ancestors past, self discovery, reconciliation, the black
experience, self worth reassurance, female sensibility, and concerns of black women. Clifton s writing
style can be described as being moral and hopeful. Lucille Clifton empowers women and African
Americans throughout her poetry which shows the strength and beauty of the intricacies of her life.
Clifton s poetic style suggests that she doesn t like to follow the crowd . I also don t fit in with the
crowd because I view and act differently than the social norm. Hearing that Emmy Award winning
Lucille Clifton chooses not to conform to society either, I don t feel inadequate or substandard for
standing out. I embrace it. Clifton explains in an interview, why she uses lowercase letters, short
stanzas and around five syllables. She said, I use simple language. I have never believed for anything
to be valid or true or intellectual or deep it had to be complex. I deliberately use the language that I
use (Evans 137). This is reflected in her poems. In homage to my hips , from Good Woman: Poems
and a Memoir 1969 1980, you can see the tendency to adhere to as few syllables as possible, yet be
rich in wisdom. these hips are big hips they need space to move around in. they don t fit into little
petty places. these hips are free hips. they don t like to be held back.

American Pop Art Essay
Examine the mass media s influence on both the formal and iconographic features of American Pop
Art. Centre your discussion on one or two examples each of the work of the following artists: Andy
Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Roy Lichtenstein, Tom Wesselmann, James Rosenquist.
Pop Art is one of the major art movements of the Twentieth Century. Characterized by themes and
techniques drawn from mass culture such as advertising and comic books, pop art is widely
interpreted as a reaction to the ideas of abstract expressionism which preceded Pop in the late 1940s
and early 1950s.
The decade of the 1960s was perhaps one of the most provocative, in terms of culture, politics and
philosophy, of the 20th century. The amazing growth that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Campbell s Soup Cans as well as Warhol s famous Marilyn Monroe, (1962, Leo Castelli Gallery) are
silk screened paintings based on the mass produced. These images are often presented in a series by
which Warhol repeats the picture a large number of times on the same canvas or on separate canvases.
Each image in the series is slightly different from the next one. Warhol utilizes a wide range of color
from the monochrome to the vivid and vibrant. In his Campbell Soup painting, numerous rows and
columns of red and white Campbell soup cans are painted alongside each other. They are all identical
except for the flavor of the soup that is written on each can. Warhol s main aesthetic strategies were
based on the fashion industry and mass media advertising. This means that he constantly used
reproduction and incessant repetition in the art work. But it was repetition and reproduction without a
message. For example, the statement ‘Black Bean on the Campbell s soup can is meaningless when it
is reproduced in art, which is exactly how mass advertising works and Warhol wanted his artwork to
have this same effect. However, Warhol s Campbell s soup did not only function as an illustration of
commercial industry and advertisement, it was an intrinsic part of Warhol s life and memories and
popular culture. For him the soup represented a feeling of being at home with family. It was what the

Indian Banking System: For the past three decades India s banking system has several outstanding
achievements to its credit. The government s regular policy for Indian bank since 1969 has paid rich
dividends with the nationalization of 14 major private banks of India. The first bank in India, though
conservative, was established in 1786. From 1786 till today, the journey of Indian Banking System
can be segregated into three distinct phases. They are as mentioned below:
Early phase from 1786 to 1969 of Indian Banks Nationalisation of Indian Banks and up to 1991 prior
to Indian banking sector Reforms. New phase of Indian Banking System with the advent of Indian
Financial Banking Sector Reforms after 1991.
Phase I During the first phase the growth was very slow and banks also experienced periodic failures
between 1913 and 1948. There were approximately 1100 banks, mostly small. To streamline the

Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell Of Arms
World War I, also known as the Great War, was a war of courage, glory, and selflessness. A Farewell
to Arms, written by Ernest Hemingway, is a recollection of his war experiences. The protagonist, an
American Lieutenant named Fredric Henry, struggles to find the middle ground between his affair
with the beautiful and radiant Catherine Barkley and pursuing heroism in the Great War. The lovers
lives are turned upside down once they realize they are infatuated with each other. Like Lieutenant
Henry, when Hemingway was serving at the front, he was wounded, was decorated by the Italian
Government, and spent considerable time in hospitals (nobelprize.org). In the hospital, Henry grew
impatient because he could not immediately walk away from the facility and his problems.
Hemingway uses characterization to develop the people within the story as well as the underlining
motifs of loyalty, love, and masculinity. Lieutenant Fredric Henry traveled to Italy for the soul purpose
of participating in World War I and touring Italy. His intensions become less defined when he meets
Catherine Barkley. Hemingway draws the reader farther and farther into the novel with Fredric s
thoughts, and the beauty he sees within Catherine. Fredric quickly becomes involved in playing
innocent games with her. Catherine hints at the game, questioning if Fredric loved her. After he
responds with a lie, Catherine catches him off guard by replying, You don t have to pretend to love

The only department that will be utilizing the computerized coding assistant is the health information
department mainly our coding staff. The HIM staff will mainly use this system in order to help smooth
the coding process of charts, check to make sure all codes are correct before being submitted for
billing, and to help them identify codes for diagnosis or procedures they are unfamiliar with. The
receptionists in the different departments may also utilize the system if a time were ever to arise in
order to assist the coders with work load.
The only projects that the organization is currently undergoing is the preparation for the
implementation of the new ICD 10 coding. We are hoping that with the new computer coding assistant
that it will help the HIM staff transition better and be able to look up the new codes for all the
diagnosis and procedures more easily and quickly.

Theme Of Conflict In Go Set A Watchman
Although Harper Lee uses other literary elements, she is notorious for using conflicts in her novels.
One great example of hers would be To Kill a Mockingbird. The main conflict within the novel is
finding justice for a negro who was accused of raping a white woman. The prequel to To Kill a
Mockingbird, Go Set a Watchman, also showcases conflicts important to the storyline. Throughout the
novel, Go Set a Watchman, Harper Lee uses a variety of different types of conflict which contributes
to the theme that no matter how societal views are changing, one should not lose their personal values
and individual voice. The first area of conflict Harper Lee portrays is character versus society. She

Literary Analysis Of Annihilated Time
Literary Analysis Annihilated Time Although many may not believe it until it happens to them, time
can pass by so swiftly that one won t even register it at first. Yes, time passing is a part of life, but the
realization of it is another story within itself. Forgetfulness, a poem by Billy Collins, and an excerpt
from Once More to the Lake by E.B. White both provide a clear example of how fast time can go by.
In Collin s piece, he puts together many various ideas one can forget as their life moves incredibly
fast. Likewise, in White s Once More to the Lake, the narrator struggles to understand how quickly
time really passed and how his son is so similaralike to him. Both of these pieces of writing use X
syntax and X diction to develop the common theme of annihilated time. First off, Once More to the
Lake and Forgetfulness each utilize nostalgic diction in order to generate the theme of annihilated
time. In Once More to the Lake, the narrator takes his son to a lake in Maine that he always went to as
a child. Throughout the story, he mentions how he sees himself in his son, hence getting him caught
up with how quickly time flew by. In more detail, he chooses specific words to describe these feelings,
such as sustain the illusion (White 2) and revisit old haunts (White 1). By using these specific words
to explain his experience with his son, it makes it seem both natural and unnatural, similar to the
passing of forgotten time. Moreover, these specific

For instance, the opening scene of the episode shows Derek and Meredith, which are both white
characters. However, the series also tends to represent different races equally, not just heavily focusing
on the white race. The African American character that holds a major role in the series is Richard
Webber, the chief of surgery. During the first episode, he is introduced touring his fellow interns

For example, she is harsh to everyone in the episode which makes the interns come to respect her.
Miranda Bailey offers one of the more intriguing examples of how blackness is figured in a text such
as Grey s Anatomy as a matter of personal and communication style, rather than political and social
differences (Havens, 2013, p. 125). Racial stereotypes are presented in this series differently, as
African Americans are given major roles. This is an advantage towards destroying the racial
stereotype of the audience believing only white characters are intended to main roles. The series also

The Growth Of The Corporate Bond Market

There has been a significant increase in new corporate bond issues (and other hybrid securities) that

Ways for retail investors to access corporate bonds have continued to develop.
Regulatory changes to reduce impediments to retail investment in corporate bonds are slowly

Session VIII was about the Fruit of the Spirit, Gentleness. The objectives of this session were to
examine ways to be gentle through the evaluation of humankind s action, understand the gentleness of
God s Spirit, and the treatment of others with gentleness. The supporting scriptures came from the Old

In The Penal Colony
In the short story, In the Penal Colony by Franz Kafka, we are introduced to a horrible device that is
used to torture and execute prisoners. This apparatus does this by repeatedly writing the word of the
law that the condemned person had broken into their flesh like a bizarre tattoo artist made of pain and
blood. It is both sickening and fascinating to read the account of how this machine operates from the
character named the Officer as he describes in gross details just what this monster of metal does to
someone. But, why would Kafka write about these grisly details of blood and torn flesh? It was a
metaphor for what happens when a punishment system has lost sight of reform and justice. In this
paper, we will see how the machine is many metaphors of fear, injustice and what happens when a
justice system becomes one of torture and about how people can view the system and how it may
seem unfair to the common person about to face it. In the essay, Metaphors we live by Metaphors we
live by (Lakoff Johnson 2011), it states, Metaphor is for most people a device of the poetic
imagination and the rhetorical flourish a matter of extraordinary rather than ordinary language. (page

into many extraordinary things. By doing this, they can put hidden meaning or messages in the stories

The Problem Of A Firefighter
Summary:There are people in this country who want to be firefighters but the problem is they don t
know if the want to pursue this career in a large city or a small town. I m proposing whether it s better
to be a firefighter in a large city like Kansas City or a firefighter in a small town like Jefferson City. I

where they want to work. It will give them all the essential information they need to know to make
their decision on where they want to live and work. This will help out the people who have this
problem and help them to decide where they want to be a firefighter. And just because you choose one
town or city does not mean you can t go be a firefighter somewhere else in the future.
Proposed Program/Solution: In kansas city there firemen are making $47,550 annually on average and
start out at $26,100 and a veteran firefighter gets paid $69,160 annually(How Much Do 3). In
jefferson city the average firefighter pay is $13,994 a year starting out and after a couple years making

United States firefighters make $48,270 which means the average pay in Kansas City is $580 or 1.2%
higher than national average(How Much Do 4). Looking at the historical salaries for Jefferson City,

to believe are nothing but a bunch of fanatics and criminals. To begin, the first act of vandalism was
The Boston Tea party where they threw about 342 chests of tea into the harbor dressed as Indians just
to prove a point. Additionally, they recruited gangs and city thugs to do their violent means usually by
tarring and feathering where they forced you down on the ground and began pouring down hot tar all

Summary Of Seventh Grade By Gary Soto
Seventh Grade by Gary Soto is a short story narrative that illuminates the hardships of middle
schoolers. In this writing, Victor, the main character, deals with conflicts that are for most seventh
graders today, relatable. The events that occur in the plot, are fiction, but they are very relevant and
potentially life like; which makes the narrative realistic fiction. Additionally, many examples from the
story demonstrate the overarching theme, that being open to risk can lead to the accomplishment of
your goals, Victor raised his hand, wanting to impress Teresa... I didn t know you knew French, she
said. That was good. (Soto, 1990). Gary Soto writes in third person limited, specifically to seventh
graders/transitioning middle schoolers. He achieves his purpose, which is to convey the perspective of
seventh graders on daily problems, by using appropriate language; They shook hands raza style... I ain
t making a face, ese. (Soto, 1990). The syntax in this sentence fits the purpose of the writing; the ain t
connects to the fact that Soto is writing for middle schoolers. Soto not only uses dialogue, diction, and

Burmese Python Essay
A dangerous and unwelcome predator is slithering in our very backyards here in Florida the Burmese

South Florida. According to the University of Florida IFAS On May 17, 2006, the first python nest

Everglades National Park, including areas nearby. Due to their rapid increase in population, they are
consuming a countless number of mammals and birds, causing displacement to native species. This is
a current and ongoing problem that warrants further research to properly eradicate the Burmese
python as they pose a threat to our safety and continue to ravage the Everglades by consuming a large
number of mammals and birds. The rise and popularity of exotic pets along with irresponsible pet

they have devoured different types of mammals and birds, which some are already endangered.

best ways to treat their children. Some doctors believe that changing a child s diet, by eliminating

The Problem Of The Hospital Emergency
The world hospital comes from Latin word hopes, which means a visitor or host who receives a
visitor. That is why in the early century, the primary goal of the hospital was to serve the poor. Torrens
(1993) states, In the early 20 the century, with the establishment of consistent medical education,
hospitals became more accepted across socioeconomic classes and became the symbol of medicine.
Since hospitals now requires more training and specialization for workers, furthermore, need
sophisticated material to delivery services, hospitals passed the poorhouses to the symbol of the
institutionalizations of health care said Niles (1994). Hospitals almost lost the duty to provide care to
people in emergency because they turned patients away who cannot pay or indigents. That is why
many people are afraid to dial 911 now even though they have an important emergency to go to the
hospital emergency because of fear to turn way. This situation if not remedy can cause people to die
when they could be saved if they would admit to the hospital emergency.
Today, admitting to the hospital is so expensive that makes it very difficult to those who do not have
insurance to get in when there are sick. This issue becomes so common that retains the concerns of
many. For that, the government intervenes by creating institutions such as the Emergency Medical
Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) and the Consolidated Omnibus reconciliation Act (COBRA)

  • 2. Adolphe Quetelet, Johann Herder, And Alexis Tocqueville In search for the perfect man, could it be we tend to find the average man? Throughout history there has been many philosophers such as Adolphe Quetelet, Johann Herder, and Alexis Tocqueville, all of which worked on theories and done research on man in society. Although their work has had differences, there has been similarities that connect all three of these philosophers ideas together. As a brief background, Herder expressed the history of man throughout his work. This history of man portrayed survival tactics, emotional responses, human nature, and the consequences faced by man. Tocqueville s work consists of the Democracy in America and the ultimate goal of an Indefinite Perfectibility of Man, the idea of equality among all, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows us to comprehend how the gifts from nature were meant to be interpreted as well as how a man forms to society and matures throughout the years of life. We can also see similarities in the work of Quetelet and Tocqueville, in this quote by Herder. Tocqueville s work suggests an indefinite perfectibility of man, which could also be interpreted in Herder s work. If nature was created not only to satisfy man but also protect mankind from warfare, therefore it could be assumed that the perfectibility of man, has already been achieved since the beginning of time. Every man is born into nature, creating an equal opportunity for all, indirectly implying there s a natural tendency for equality among all men regardless of race. This is where controversy occurs between Herder s work and Tocqueville s, Herder believes that perfectibility of man has already occurred through nature s gift, but Tocqueville believes there s racism, inequality, and an abundance of power among government, thus preventing society from obtaining the ultimate goal of perfectibility of man. Although these two concepts have created controversy, the similarities among the two are relevant. As stated, nature was meant to create a perfect environment to sustain the needs of man, while maintaining conflicts and preventing warfare, yet man is educated by man and ... • 4. Use Of Nanomaterials On Civil Engineering- A Review USE OF NANOMATERIALS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING A REVIEW Abstract Recently, the use of nanomaterials is increasing day by day in the various fields such as biomedicine, automobile, electronics, robotics, construction industry etc. This is mainly because of unique mechanical, chemical, electronic and optical properties of nanomaterials. Particularly, construction industry may possibly be one of the chief beneficiaries of these materials, because the properties of concrete, steel, glass and other building materials will improve with the applications of nanomaterials. Therefore, the potential use of nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes, Cu nanoparticles, Ag nanoparticles, TiO2, SiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2, and Fe2O3 nano oxides for enhancing the mechanical strengths and durability of concrete have been explored in the current study. It has been observed that the addition of nanomaterials would improve the corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength etc. of cementitious composites. However, the exact mechanism responsible for improvement in the characteristics of nano based cementitious materials is not clear so far. Thus, more researches and investigations are required in order to use the nanomaterials in civil engineering and construction sector effectively. Key words: nanomaterials, construction industry, concrete, mechanical strengths, durability I. Introduction Nanotechnology was first introduced by physicist Richard P. ... • 5. Power In Lord Of The Flies In William Golding s Lord of the Flies, young boys face challenges for safety or the seekage of power. There are no adults on the island to show them the peaceful way to handle conflicts. Naturally boys follow the power and some are left to fend for themselves. The author employs the perpetrators in the novel seek power by provoking cruelty to their victims. The island was substantially peaceful when Ralph, a later victim, called everyone on the island with a blow into a conch to bring them to the meeting grounds for introductions. Littluns and biguns filed into the area; already seeking power, Jack organized a group of his own that he led. The group discussed responsibilities and Jack concluded, We ll have rules! This dance became a regular occurrence and brought out the tribes savagery, especially the night of a horrible storm. Just before the storm, Jack killed a pig and fed his people, scaring the tribe by pressuring them to eat fast, since they knew Jack had the power and could end their meal at any time to start their ritual. Cruelty arose during the rituals; littluns being thrown into the middle allowed the hunters to deal painful blows to ease all uneasy thoughts. With their minds hindered by excitement, they thought the beast had come out of the woods and they pounced, not knowing it was Simon. The author described this moment as, There were no words, and no movements but the tearing of teeth and claws. (153). Ralph and Piggy realize their fate and felt secluded after Simon s death. They were scared for their lives, knowing Jack will kill to maintain power. Making Ralph powerless, Jack builds a fort to keep Ralph s ideas excluded. He lines the edge with armed watchers to warn if Ralph or Piggy were near. Within the fort, anyone who does not follow Jack s rules will be tied up or tortured, while Jack sits, watching. • 6. Reflection And Educational Differences In The Educational... When we started this eight week course about differentiation I already had a lot of background information on this subject. I did learn a few things about how to help my colleagues jump on the bandwagon of differentiation. By helping my fellow teachers change their mindset towards planning with differentiation in mind I am making a positive difference in my students educational experience. When differentiation is used properly students are taught lessons in ways that are both meaningful and specific to the students educational needs. Differentiation is a great tool that teachers can use to help decrease the educational gap between students skills and the grade level standards that they should be meeting. For this class we had to create a lesson with differentiation in mind. For me this assignment was easy because I already plan my lessons with differentiation in mind. What came naturally with differentiation was differentiating for content, process, and product. Each station that I planned had some sort of differentiation to help students understand the concept that was being taught. Including these extra strategies was easy and did not add any extra time for me to plan. What I found to be more challenging was differentiating with readiness in mind. With 50 plus students in my gymnasium I have a wide range of skill levels. This means that I have to use my pre assessment data in order to figure who might need more help and who can be pushed a little further to extend ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of Lucille Clifton s The Poetry Of A Negro I continue to write since my life as a human only includes my life as a poet, it doesn t depend on it , Lucille Clifton. Known to most as Lucille Clifton, Thelma Lucille Sayles was born to Samuel L. and Thelma Moore Sayles on June 27, 1936 in Depew, New York. Her parents were a New York steel mill worker and a homemaker/launderer and lived in poverty. Clifton overcame adversity and earned a scholarship to attended Howard University at the age of sixteen as a drama major, then in 1955 she transferred to Fredonia State Teacher s College now known as Fredonia State University of New York. Recurring themes in her poetry are embracing ancestors past, self discovery, reconciliation, the black experience, self worth reassurance, female sensibility, and concerns of black women. Clifton s writing style can be described as being moral and hopeful. Lucille Clifton empowers women and African Americans throughout her poetry which shows the strength and beauty of the intricacies of her life. Clifton s poetic style suggests that she doesn t like to follow the crowd . I also don t fit in with the crowd because I view and act differently than the social norm. Hearing that Emmy Award winning Lucille Clifton chooses not to conform to society either, I don t feel inadequate or substandard for standing out. I embrace it. Clifton explains in an interview, why she uses lowercase letters, short stanzas and around five syllables. She said, I use simple language. I have never believed for anything to be valid or true or intellectual or deep it had to be complex. I deliberately use the language that I use (Evans 137). This is reflected in her poems. In homage to my hips , from Good Woman: Poems and a Memoir 1969 1980, you can see the tendency to adhere to as few syllables as possible, yet be rich in wisdom. these hips are big hips they need space to move around in. they don t fit into little petty places. these hips are free hips. they don t like to be held back. ... Centre your discussion on one or two examples each of the work of the following artists: Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Roy Lichtenstein, Tom Wesselmann, James Rosenquist. Pop Art is one of the major art movements of the Twentieth Century. Characterized by themes and techniques drawn from mass culture such as advertising and comic books, pop art is widely interpreted as a reaction to the ideas of abstract expressionism which preceded Pop in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The decade of the 1960s was perhaps one of the most provocative, in terms of culture, politics and philosophy, of the 20th century. The amazing growth that ... In his Campbell Soup painting, numerous rows and columns of red and white Campbell soup cans are painted alongside each other. They are all identical except for the flavor of the soup that is written on each can. Warhol s main aesthetic strategies were based on the fashion industry and mass media advertising. This means that he constantly used reproduction and incessant repetition in the art work. But it was repetition and reproduction without a message. For example, the statement ‘Black Bean on the Campbell s soup can is meaningless when it is reproduced in art, which is exactly how mass advertising works and Warhol wanted his artwork to have this same effect. However, Warhol s Campbell s soup did not only function as an illustration of commercial industry and advertisement, it was an intrinsic part of Warhol s life and memories and popular culture. For him the soup represented a feeling of being at home with family. It was what the mass media ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literary Analysis Of Annihilated Time Literary Analysis Annihilated Time Although many may not believe it until it happens to them, time can pass by so swiftly that one won t even register it at first. Yes, time passing is a part of life, but the realization of it is another story within itself. Forgetfulness, a poem by Billy Collins, and an excerpt from Once More to the Lake by E.B. White both provide a clear example of how fast time can go by. In Collin s piece, he puts together many various ideas one can forget as their life moves incredibly fast. Likewise, in White s Once More to the Lake, the narrator struggles to understand how quickly time really passed and how his son is so similaralike to him. Both of these pieces of writing use X syntax and X diction to develop the common theme of annihilated time. First off, Once More to the Lake and Forgetfulness each utilize nostalgic diction in order to generate the theme of annihilated time. In Once More to the Lake, the narrator takes his son to a lake in Maine that he always went to as a child. Throughout the story, he mentions how he sees himself in his son, hence getting him caught up with how quickly time flew by. In more detail, he chooses specific words to describe these feelings, such as sustain the illusion (White 2) and revisit old haunts (White 1).
