10. BASIC CONCEPTS ON INTEGRATING
TECHNOLOGY IN INSTRUCTION
Technology Integration is the use of learning technologies to
introduce, reinforce, supplement and extent skills. This signifies that
the mere use of computer does not mean that technology is already
integrated in the instruction. A need to provide learning on how
educational technology can be applied and integrated in the
teaching-learning process is very crucial.
In connection to that, there are External Manifestations of
Technology Integration into Instruction which occupies a
position in the instructional process. These Manifestations of
technology integration into instruction are pertaining to the changes
in the way classes are conducted. A clear example of that is the
lectures or assignments which may be posted or send through the
website.

11. BASIC CONCEPTS ON INTEGRATING
TECHNOLOGY IN INSTRUCTION
Moreover, quality of instruction is improved to a higher
level, teaching learning process and use of strategies needs a
teacher who set and plans activities ahead of time.
On the other hand, there are Three Levels of Technology
Integration: First is, simple integration wherein technology
integration has no substantial change in the teaching-learning
process from the previous method (e.g. the use of LCD Projectors
in presenting concepts and, examples through images/pictures)
Second is, middle level integration which means that there is a
purposeful use of technology to support key learning areas (e.g.
allowing students to view multimedia presentations and videos in
relation to the lesson to be presented) Lastly is, High level
integration wherein technology is the central instructional tool (e.g.
Students were tasked to produce computer newsletter to dish out

12. STATE OF THE ART EDUCATIONAL
TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION AND
PRACTICES
Educators have become more aware and active in adopting
state-of-the-art educational technology practices they can possibly
adopt today. It is very crucial that a teacher should possessed not
only computer literacy but also competence. This topic includes
the trends which should be recognized by educators, it involves the
capabilities of the students to use computers nowadays and that
the teaching-learning process is student-centered and aided with
instructional medias such as power-point presentations, video clips
and the likes. Furthermore, there are also disadvantages in using
technology in instruction: It is time consuming and technology-
centered classrooms might replace the teachers. Thus, educators
should balanced the application of these instructional tools in order
to prevent these things to happen.

13. HIGHER THINKING SKILLS THROUGH IT-
BASED PROJECTS
The teachers are the ones who are creating the learning
environment, which means that they are facilitating the learning
process. Information technology for higher thinking skills and
creativity includes four types of IT-based projects: (1) Resource
based projects wherein the teacher is only supplying the data
needed if only necessary. (2) Simple creations, which is focused
on the creativity of the students. (3) Guided hypermedia project
which refers to the production of self-made multimedia projects
e.g. power-point presentations, multi-media presentations and etc.
(4) Web-based projects wherein students create and post web
pages on a given topic.
Hence, IT-based projects promotes higher thinking skills
through giving activities that will be solved logically of the students.
It is obviously learner-centered for it allows the students to explore

Based on the constructivist and social constructivist
theories of learning, teacher can utilize computer as an: (1)
informative tool, whereas computer can offer massive amounts
of information in different forms such as text, graphics, sound and
video. (2) constructive tool, in which computer itself can be used
for manipulating information, visualizing understanding and
building new knowledge. (3) co-constructive tool, wherein
students can work together and create a shared understanding of
new knowledge and (4) situating tool, which refers 3d images
display that computer gives feeling to the user which are situated
in a virtual environment.

15. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN SUPPORT
OF STUDENT -CENTERED LEARNING
The idea of student-centered learning is not new, since it is all
started during 20th century and continuously developing up to this
milieu (21st century). In desire to gain effectiveness, efficiency, and
economy in administration and instruction schools have adopted the
support of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Learners are now active, they are interacting with other students,
exhibits independence and self-awareness in the learning process.
Students in contemporary classroom environment are characterized
by the set of individuals who can can make power-point
presentations, can search information in the internet, and conducting
brainstorming or small group discussions in order to come up in a
solution to a problem or to have well-structured ideas.

16. COOPERATIVE LEARNING WITH THE
COMPUTER
It is undeniable that there is inappropriate number of
computers in each classrooms so the teacher’s creativity will have
to act to the situation and cooperative learning is the best possible
answer to the implementation of IT supported learning in our
schools. With regard to that, cooperative or collaborative learning
is student-centered wherein there is pure interactions between the
learners and their teacher. This cooperative learning encourages
active learning thus students are not passive, promotes literacy
and skills in language and increases academic performance.
However, cooperative learning has disadvantages such as being
dependent to the leader, and having non-sense conversations.
According to researchers computer is a natural learning
vehicle for cooperative learning. Hence it shows that when
students work with computers in groups, they gather and interact

Through computer technology, educators saw the
strengthening of learning along computer literacy. The clear
example of this is the integration in: reading wherein they can
interact with computer messages and writing whereas they can
form messages using computer language. As regards, The
growing pace of innovation in today’s Information Age is so
vigorous because computer technology in education has
matured to transform into an educative Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) in education.
ICT covers any product that store, manipulate, and transmit
or receive information electronically in any digital form.

18. PERSONAL COMPUTER AS INFORMATION
AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
The use of personal computer as Information and
Communication Technology are seen by the educators as aids
rather than substitution. This topic includes the utilization of
instructional media, which refers to any materials and physical
means a teacher might use to implement instruction and facilitate
students’ achievement of instructional objectives.
Educational media acts as a communication channel for
linking various computing devices so that they may interact with
each other.

19. COMPUTER AS A TUTOR
Computer- Assisted Instruction (CAI) means that the
computer can be a tutor in effect alleviating teacher of many
activities in his personal role as classroom tutor. It should be made
clear, however, that the computer cannot totally replace the
teacher since the teacher shall continue to play the major roles of
information deliverer and learning environment controller. In order
to integrate CAI in lessons, it should not stop with the drill and
practice activities of student hence CAI reinforced well in repetitive
drills and exercises e.g. vocabulary building, math facts, and basic
science, and history or geography facts and the likes. This CAI
includes simulation programs, instructional games, multimedia
encyclopedia and electronic books.

20. UNDERSTANDING HYPERMEDIA
Hypermedia is nothing but multimedia. It is a packaged
educational computer software where information is presented and
student activities are integrated in a virtual learning environment.
The presentation of information-learning activities in hypermedia is
said to be sequenced in a non-linear manner.
It is used by the teachers in order to catch the learners’
attention, recall prior learning, introduce the software and its
distinctive features and most importantly it enhances the retention
and learning transfer.

As a future educator it is very important to make your
instructional materials attractive, contains a well-structured
information and most important is that it is decent and well-
designed. In EDTC21, I have learned that designing
presentations is a great factor that will contribute to the learning
of the students. If the power point presentation doesn’t follow the
color principles (e.g. black as the background and brown as the
color of the text or vice versa), if it presents a lot of bullets or
points in one slide (it should be at least 2-3 points per slide), and
if it contains unnecessary pictures which is not related to the topic
that you are discussing, learners will not understand the lesson.
Thus the presentation is too vague due to inappropriate usage of
designs and colors. We should bear in mind that in selecting or
making instructional materials, the first factor to consider is it
relevance to the learning objectives and how does the learners
will react to it ( if it satisfies their interests, gets their attention and

Dale’s Cone of Experience is also one of those
significant learnings that I’ve acquired in Educational Technology
1. In this topic I have realized that direct participation or the
purposeful experience of the learners is the most effective type of
teaching strategy, which is the ultimate goal of Educational
Technology. It is indeed important that we always involved our
students, and let them use their five senses in the learning
process.
Therefore, Educational Technology1 taught me to
always consider the factors which will affect the learning process,
and making instructional materials based on the prescribed rules
will help the teachers to deliver her lessons effectively.

24. LEARNING THROUGH
EDTECH2
Integrating technology in instruction is what Educational
Technology 2 is all about. I have learned that technology really
helps the teachers to deliver their lesson wholesomely and
effectively as it helps them to get the attention of the learners. It
involves cooperative learning which is student-centered, they are
having small group discussions wherein exchanging of ideas
takes place. Researchers discovered that cooperative learning
becomes more effective with the aid of technology. One of the
topics that really got my attention is the use of hypermedia, this
technology- based activity helps the students to focus their
attention to the lesson and requiring them to make this will help to
enhance their creativity and knowledge about the utilization of
technology in education.
Furthermore, Ed. Tech. 2 emphasizes that computer is an

tool, constructive and co-constructive tool. Educational
Technology 2 also highlights information technology based
projects, one of those projects is resource-based project.
Resource-based project means that the teacher is the facilitator,
which means that they are only supplying data if needed thus
these IT-based projects promote higher thinking skills among
students.
Though educational technology 2, accentuates the
integration of technology in instruction, the subject never forgets
to remind us that computer is a support only and not a
substitution to the teachers.

changed me…
Educational Technology opens the door for a highly-
developed instruction. This field of study really fits to cater the
needs of both 21st century learners and teachers. As time goes
by, the use of technology became the center of instruction for it
offers effective strategies which will help the teachers to discuss
her lesson successfully.
Educational Technology changed me in a way that I
became more sensitive in selecting instructional materials as a
medium of instruction. The use of colors, or any type of visual
design should be chosen carefully for it affects the performance
of the students as well as the teachers. Another thing is, Ed.
Tech. made me realized that too much utilization of technology
in a classroom might substitutes you as a facilitator, thus the
use of technology and traditional way of teaching should be

28. COMPUTERS WILL NEVER
REPLACE TEACHERS!
Since we are in the 21st century, the use of technology is in
the broader-sense, hence it is very crucial that teachers should
possessed competency and computer-literacy, in order to attend to
the needs of students successfully. On the other hand, the use of
chalk board, manila papers or other traditional ways of teaching
seems so archaic today because of the use of technology, but we
should never forget that traditional ways are the root of modernized
ways of teaching thus traditional methods are still applicable today in
some circumstances.
This portfolio exhibits information about integration of
technology in instruction, it provides helpful tips that will help future
educators to cope up in the new trends in this milieu. Above all this
portfolio will leave you a simple reminder that even the use of
technology in the teaching-learning process is widespread,
computers will never replace teachers as we are the only ones who
possessed genuine love to our students and exceptional dedication in
our profession.
