Organelles In Animal Cells Essay
Organelles are the internal structures of the cell that are important for the cell to survive. Each
organelle has a specific function for the cell. The types of organelles in the cell can be different
from each other depending on the type of cell. Plant cells and animal cells both have a cytoskeleton,
endoplasmic reticulum(smooth and rough), golgi apparatus, mitochondrion, nucleus, plasma
membrane, and ribosomes. Animal and plant cells also have vacuoles, but they are rarely found
in animal cells. Vacuoles in animal cells are very small compared to the vacuoles in plant cells.
Lysosomes are also rarely found in plant cells but mostly found in animal cells. The cytoplasm is a
semifluid in the plasma membrane. It is in all eukaryotic cells. In prokaryotes, this is where the
chemical processes of the celltake place. In eukaryotic cells, this is where organelles perform
their functions. Cellular respiration also takes place here. One of stages of cellular respiration is
glycolysis. Glycolysis is when glucose breaks down to form two pyruvates and 4 ATP. Its net
result of 2 ATP is important for another process called the Krebs Cycle. This process is important
because it begins cellular respiration. The cytoplasm also gives the cell its shape; without it, the cell
would be deflated and substances would not be able to move throughout the cell. Organelles would
have difficulty functioning too. It has been misunderstood that organelles float freely in the
cytoplasm even

Radical Racial Movements
According to the Equal Justice Initiative, nearly 4,000 blacks were lynched in Jim Crow South
between the years of 1877 and 1950 (Mackaman). The Black community has continuously battled
segregation. Throughout the years there have been many radical movements all over the world to
end segregation. Strong leaders came out of these movements people banned together for a
common cause. While Segregation was a worldwide issue it seemed to be a lot worse in the
southern states. For example, North Carolinahas a large history of radical racial movements in the
following major cities: Wilmington, Charlotte, and Greensboro.

1. When shares of common stock are issued to satisfy the exercise of employee stock options, are
the shares issued from the Company s authorized but previously unissued shares or from the
Company s treasury stock ? Where in the financial statements do you find this information?
(page 44) According to the 10 K, the Company s common stock remains the same in 2011 and
2010 (75.5 million) while the treasury stock increased from 2615.2 to 3210.3 million, which means
the Company didn t issue any authorized but previously unissued shares this year but satisfied the

Basic EPS = (net income preferred dividends) / weighted average number of common shares
outstanding = 1798.3/(754.6 109.8) = 2.8
Diluted EPS = (net income preferred dividends) / (weighted average number of common shares
outstanding + increment in common shares)
Since there is not enough information to calculate the increment in common shares, the diluted EPS
cannot be proved in this case.
6. Explain the earnings per share amount that you would recommend an investor should use to
evaluate the company.
(page 66) I would recommend an investor use the diluted EPS. For investors, it is important to
value the business assuming all possible dilution that can take place will take place. According to
the 10 K, the amount of exercised stock option is quite large annually, which means the increment
in common shares is considerable. Using the diluted EPS will help the investor to evaluate the
Company in a big picture.
7. How much would the diluted earnings per share be if the stock price were high enough to make
all the stock options in the money. Assume that the exercise price of all stock options is $2 less
that the average market price for 2011.
(page 66 67) According to the 10 K, the exercise price is 22.59 per share, so we can conclude that
the average market price is 24.59.

Essay on Reader Response to The Silmarillion by J.R.R....
Position Paper: Reader response
I read a book the other day. It was a wonderful book called The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. I
really enjoyed it; it gives the background information on the creation of Middle Earth. In it, Tolkien
tells us of Illúvatar, Eä, the Valar and the birth of Elves, Dwarves and Men. But, you know, I
don t think it has anything at all to do with Elves, Dwarves, Men and some god named IllГєvatar. I
think Tolkien really wanted to write a Biblical allegory and a critique on ridiculous human nature
really is. IllГєvatar is a substitution for God, the Valar substitute the Angels and the three god made
races are representative of human races. I think he didn t use more races because that ... Show more

Now this letter is included in a book titled, The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, on pages 143 161. More
importantly, it is in the preface to The Silmarillion, pages xi xxiv. In short, my taking the view
that this novel is a Biblical allegory completely undermines what the author had in mind when he
wrote The Silmarillion and even The Lord of the Rings. Technically, I can still take this view
because Reader response criticism allows me too. I don t have to worry about what the author
wanted, and maybe that is why the opinion that The Silmarillion is a biblical allegory is a widely
shared opinion.
One of the advantages to reader response is that the reader can read a novel the way they desire.
It beats adhering to Marxist, Psychoanalytical or Feminist criticism. It gives more of a chance for
the reader to be creative, and it gives a reader the chance to do the right thing, and maybe
research the author a little bit. On the negative side, it gives the reader the chance to say, this is
what it means, because I said so or it s my opinion, and you can t change it . I think that that is
the major draw back to this school of criticism. A person can read anything into anything and if
they are not a responsible critic, well then, anything s possible as long as you can prove it.

For the cause of this illness, researches strongly believe that genetics and brain chemistry and the
schizophrenics environments contribute to development of this kind of mental disorder.
Firstly, the main cause of schizophrenia is genetic. Due to research to family members of the
patients with Schizophrenia, we usually have risk to get schizophrenia is about 5% among the
relatives who have this illness compared to general population. For twins, the identical twins have
40% to 65% chances of developing this illness while fraternal twins have 14% 17% chance of
having schizophrenia. Next, for the someone who has Schizophrenic parents, one has 12%
potential to have this mental illness. However, it can increase to 46% to 50% if both of his parents
are affected. The close genetic relationship to a patient with Schizophrenic are riskier to have
schizophrenia compared to distant genetic relationships. The relatives of Schizophrenic were often
contaminated by hereditary mental disease (Bleuler). Baby of a Schizophrenic mother s still have

Walker emphasizes the importance of having relationships with significant others through the use of
diction to characterize Nettie. There is so much to tell you that I don t know... but if this do get
through, one thing I want you to know, I love you, and I am not dead. And Olivia is fine and so is

Long as I can spell G O D I got somebody along (Walker 18). As the story begins, Celie feels as if
the only place she can express her true feelings is with God. She purposes that she can trust him
and turn to him when no other person will understand. Similarly to Nettie s doubts of her sister
thinking she s dead, Celie invokes that God is the only reliable source in her life. The letters
begin with Celie addressing herself to God because she s ashamed to tell anyone else (Bloom
54). As time goes on, she becomes less reliant on God, and more independent when it comes to
thoughts and intentions. Well, us talk and talk about God, but I m still adrift. Trying to chase
that old white man out of my head. I been so busy thinking bout him I never truly notice nothing
God make. Not a blade of corn (how it do that?) not the color purple (where it come from?)
(Walker 198). Attempting to escape the image of God as a white male which she cannot relate
to, Celie envisions God as the creator of all beauty. She used to associate God with all the
previous abuses from men, ranting to God about her many struggles with life. She now takes time
to appreciate, rather than denigrate, all of His blessings on earth, and how truly lucky she is after
all. Celie also associates His entity

Theories Of Explaining Behavior Through Observation
Adolescent Psychology Term Paper
Jamila Williams
Tuskegee University
Behavioral psychology is based on the concept of explaining behavior through observation.
Behaviorists, psychologist that study behavior, believe a person can be understood through
observing their behavior. This school of psychology assumes that we are born as a blank state and
everyone is equal. However, environmental factors are what leads to us behaving differently from
one another.
American Psychologist and Founder of Behaviorism John B. Watson studied the ultimate goal to
provide basis for prediction and control of human beings acquired through conditioning.
Conditioning occurs through interaction with the environment. Scientist strongly believe that
individuals respond to an environmental stimulus that shapes our actions. Russian Physiologist
Ivan Pavlov and American Psychologist and Behaviorist B. F. Skinner broke down conditioning
into two types: classical conditioning and operant conditioning.
Classical conditioning is a behavioral intervention technique by means of two stimuli being paired
together in a consistent pattern to result in the same behavioral response. Pavlov was looking at
salivation in dogs in response to being fed. His notion was that dogs can be taught to do certain
things, for example dogs salivating when they see food. Operant conditioning is a similar technique
that aims on the association between voluntary behavior and consequences. Skinner believed that

My Family Experience
This experience has been emotionally demanding for me and a bit awkward. First off,
immediate family speaking, we have an implicit norm of not offending people by criticism their
actions but also, it s weird to compliment people on their behaviour. We stick to thank you , I
appreciate what you did and when there is a behaviour we find annoying we don t say a word. As
for my big family, in which I include my immediate family (mom and brother), my boyfriend and
my local church, we are allowed to give compliment and to share emotions with one another. With
this context being placed, it was easier to compliment my church sister C and my boyfriend
because we had this pre establish norm of it s acceptable to compliment and receive compliment
and criticisms but a bit harder to throw the first one at my mom.
The easiest appreciation to give was to my boyfriend, I have even say it twice. I believe it s
because. We have a turning toward response to each other s bids (Gottman DeClaire, 2001) it
makes it easier for us to compliment each other and even criticize politely one another.
The hardest I would say was the first one that I gave to my mom, it felt like an ice breaker. I
perceived it as breaking an implicit norm or rule we had for many years.
As I have recorded, in the table above, the impressions I had from the three compliments
/appreciations to my mother were each different, in her verbal response as well as my
interpretations. She first thought it was a question

Martin Seligman s Exploration Of Learned Helplessness,...
The world of science consistently generates new studies in various fields, yielding results that can
revolutionize society and shine light on the world we know so very little about. However, it is
easy to get lost in specific studies and view each one as its own, independent discovery. And while
each experiment provides an important look into the complexities of this world, science is an
amalgamation of many discoveries strung together in complex ways. This way, the merits of each
study can interrelate in order to further understand something else. In the realm of positive
psychology, it is important that a number of different scientific discoveries work together to explain
an overarching topic. For example, two studies that are interrelated are Martin Seligmans
exploration of learned helplessness, and Roy Baumeister s study on willpower depletion. Both are
important in their own rights, but by comparing both Seligman and Baumeister s experiments,
scientists can discuss the overarching concept of willpower as a depletable resource. Psychologist
Martin Seligman conducted an experiment that aimed to understand more about classical
conditioning. In his study, he rang a bell and lightly shocked a dog. Eventually, if the dog heard
the bell, it would react to the shock before it even happened. This was all good, it was a great
example of classical conditioning, but the truly interesting part of the study came later. Seligman
constructed a box with a small wall in the middle.

Chapter I Problem and Its Setting Introduction Family is the basic components of the society. And
the researcher believes that the number one ingredients on youth s happy life are their family, that
the parents are the most important source of youth s behavior, which effect to their outlook in
life. So if the parents are separated, how does it affect the youth and what can they do about it?
When parents split up, there can be many emotions that a youth may have to deal with. These

Teenagers from non intact families were more likely to be sexually active and had higher rates
of pregnancy. Girls from broken homes were at greatest risk for teenage pregnancy. The study
also found that children who were in a single parent or step parent home by the time they were
ten were more than twice as likely to be arrested by age 14. Children who never lived with their
own father had the highest likelihood of being arrested.[5] According to Patrick F. Fagan, Ph. D.
that the children living with the single mother are six times more likely to live in poverty than
are children whose parents are married.[6] According to Dr. Verna Hildebrand parenting involves
many commitments and responsibilities. Perhaps the greatest of this is helping a child develop a
positive self concept and high self esteem. With these assets, a child will be better able to make
wise decisions, relate well to others, and assume responsibilities for his or her life.[7] Conceptual
Framework [pic] Figure 1 The paradigm shows that both family, broken and complete, may affect
the youth s outlook in life in relation to: faith, family, moral, marriage, behavior towards others,
decision making. Statement of the Problem This study seeks to determine the Effects of Broken

due to information leaks and information insecurities. With the growing dependency on computer
systems to store confidential information across the world, it is only necessary that that the
information be protected by strong securitysystems which include both hardware and software so
that both the businesses and the consumers feel safe in the transportation of information over the

Primarily, User Access Control or UAC systems are combinations of identification, authentication,
and authorization that helps restrict users to what information they can access in a database system
with certain read and write rights. Most of the identification systems operate by using a simple
serial ID followed by an identity challenge such as a password (Blanding F. 2004). UAC is the most
fundamental access control technology as without it, there cannot be further information systems.
Within the UAC system, the system administrator designates users rights and accesses which helps
develop the login authentication aspect. The system administrator is the primary local account that
authorized personnel can use to create system logins for users with certain privileges. It most cases,

Alienation in As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner Essay
William Faulkner is an American novelist whose major work is As I Lay Dying. Faulkner gave
each of his characters traits that are expressed throughout the story. The reader is introduced to
each character through their detailed and descriptive character traits. We are able to delve into the
character s mind and see their personal and distinct traits. He did not tell us anything about the
characters, but he takes us into the mind of each character to analyze what we see there. Even
though these characters lead parallel lives we can see the total alienation and breakdown of the
relationships between each other. Darl, Jewel, and Anse possess character traits that contribute to or
cause the breakdown of their relationship.

He even goes so far as to save money when he puts cement on Cash s broken leg instead of paying
for a doctor to put a cast on it. Also, to avoid being sued by Gillespie for Darl setting fire to his
barn he has Darl sent to a mental asylum in Jackson. Furthermore, Faulkner demonstrates Anse s
selfishness with him not realizing that Jewel is the product of Addie s affair. Anse is so self
absorbed that he has no clue that Addie had an affair or that Jewel is not is son. Anse is so
useless and selfish he is almost dismissed as an individual. Anse views the flood and the fire as
more crosses to bear before he can get his new teeth. He has no concern or regard with what the
journey is doing to his children. His selfishness is also expressed when he says, I don t, won t
begrudge her. (Faulkner 56). Anse forgives Addie for all the problems that she caused throughout
the journey this moreover demonstrates his selfishness. Anse is constantly indebted to others, but
he refuses to recognize his obligation and excuses himself with his comment, I aint beholden.
(Faulkner 46). One would think that the death of his wife would bring him closer to his children
but it does not. He only has one reason to complete the journey and that is to get his new teeth.
Although, Anse is the most selfish he is the only one who succeeds in the novel. Among other
things we have the problem of how to view Anse and the fact that he is triumphant at the end, the

Right now, over fourteen and a half million Americans, nearly seven percent of the population,
suffer from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)(Source 1). The human brain and its complexities
currently make it impossible to quantify the exact way in which depression arises and affects a
person. However, one thing is certain, a lot of people are sad, and it is getting worse. The rate of
depression among high school to college age students has increased significantly in the U.S. over
the past fifty years. Depression is often described as a chemical imbalance in the brain, which is
entirely correct; however, this is a gross oversimplification of the disease. Neurologists have

Additionally, temperament, the way in which an individual views the world and their
unacknowledged assumptions about how it works, also influence mood (Source 11).
Although depression is classified as a mental illness, clinical depression can produce a host of
physical and mental symptoms. Mentally, depression makes a person feel miserable, hopeless, and
as though the smallest tasks are impossible. Previously enjoyed activities often become
uninteresting and anger and stress levels can skyrocket. Physically, chronic exhaustion sets in and
aches and pains can arise which have no apparent cause (Source 1).
The MMPI test is heavily used in psychiatric and depression research. The MMPI, Minnesota
Multiphasic Personality Inventory, is the most widely used psychometric test for measuring adult
psychopathology in the world , and its derivatives, the updated MMPI 2 and the MMPI A that is
used in adolescents, are both widely used and accepted in the academic and psychiatric

significantly for high school to college students. There is dispute over the exact magnitude of the

are ordinary people, of different religions, and different thoughts. When you celebrate a specific
religion you usually don t want to acknowledge other religions because you feel as though you turn
your back on your god. That is incorrect. The three primary monotheistic religions are Judaism,
Islam, and Christianity. Of course they are different in endless ways, but they are also very
identical. Judaism was the first major religion to teach the existence of one god, which is known as
monotheism. Judaism is a tree with two strong branches, Christianity and Islam. Finally concluding

about religious leader. A religious leader is just a person passionate about a religion that runs the

Muslims, Jews, and Christians all believe in the same god. Although they all have different

Judaism. They also travel in groups for religious purposes. For example Muslims go to Mecca,
Jews and Christians travel to churches. The colossal migrations are called a hajj. They are very

Some of my favorite moments in the past three years have been at summer camps. First two at
Camp Foster in Okoboji, Iowa; the third at Camp Chief Ouray in Colorado. It s difficult to pick
one or two of my favorite moments from these three years, but one thing is certain, I learned
more from my three years working with kids than any life experiences thus far. People often ask
me, why do you enjoy working with kids? The best answer I can think of is simple. I love
working with kids because it s challenging. The challenge is twofold, kids are in constant need of
justification, and kids push you to think creatively. Anyone that has experience with kids knows
a child s favorite question is why? Why is it their favorite? (See what I did there?) It s their
favorite question because their actions need justification. If you are unable to provide adequate

basis for these assumptions. They think, why do we need to do it that way? Is there another

When Friends first aired in 1994, five years into the original run of Seinfeld, it was criticized for
being a knock off Seinfeld. Although there were significant similarities between the two shows,
there were also vast differences. Seinfeld and Friends were targeted to two very different
audiences, and they represented the relatively new idea of friendship comedies in different ways.
Despite their differences, both Friendsand Seinfeldportrayed friendship and humanity in relatable
ways, and molded friendship comedies of the future.
When Seinfeld first aired in 1989, it was simultaneously revolutionary and traditional. Like many
sitcoms before it, Seinfeld featured a three camera setup and a laugh track, and it was built around a

For one, Seinfeld depicted life in New York City(and in general) more sarcastically and cynically
than Friends, and had a specific focus on Jewish New York culture and life. In this manner,
Seinfeld risked alienating the Middle America demographic, which, at the time, made up a
strong majority of television viewers. Seinfeld also utilized meta theatricality and meta humor,
which were often about the show itself and its creators, as well as inside jokes, which could be
daunting to viewers who were not already familiar with the series. It was also generally a less
warm show than series like Friends, and its humor was more specific and sarcastic, which meant
it was less generally accessible. This was, however, part of Seinfeld s draw. As much as Seinfeld
may have been about a group of awful people, it was also about a group of misanthropic friends
who all recognized the awful things about each other, and accepted each other all the same. One of
the most relatable things about Seinfeld was its focus on minutia, as that is so often what daily life
and friendship is all about a series of little, seemingly insignificant

Leonardo Da Vinci A Renaissance Man
William Byrd and Leonardo Da Vinci and the composer and artist duo that I have chosen from
the Renaissance era or music and art. As Leonardo Da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in a
city called Vinci, Republic of Florence which today is not modern day Italy and died on May 2,
1519 at the age of 67 in the city of Amboise, Kingdom of France. Da Vinci was more known as an
artist and scientist, but was also an inventor, architect, musician, mathmation, engineer, astronomy,
writer, historian, and geologist. So you could say that Da Vinci was a Renaissance man, meaning
that he was pretty much good at everything he did. Da Vinci s most notable works of art were the
Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, The Vitruvian Man, and the Lady with an Ermine. Da... Show more

Da Vinci s artwork of The Last Supper is as a piece of art that captures the moment of Christ just
after he tells his disciples that one of them will betray him is a very influential moment of the
bible and is beautifully depicted in this art work. I believe this work of art is a stand alone piece
of art that is great in that it shows Christ in the moment having his hands spread apart showing
that they are pointed at a piece of bread and a glass of wine. Which in turn represents the body of
Christ in the bread and the blood of Christ in the wine, which is the sacrament. What is also
interesting about the painting is that Jesus s hand that is reaching for the wine is also near a
dish on the table which Judas is reaching for symbolizing that fact that Judas is the one who
betrays Jesus and has a bag of silver in his other hand in the painting. As for William Byrd, I
believe his music is beautiful in the fact that it is very calming and easy listening, which makes
me just want to listen to more of it. His style of music reminds me of the Gothic era of music in a
way because of the deep echo voices in the background, but it has more to it as the other singers
bring a more full sound to the piece of music and make the texture a nice soft but abrasive type of
listening that has emotion in its sound. I enthusiastically enjoyed

The Molecular Mechanism Of Disease Development Essay
HS is a severe and chronic inflammatory disease with a devastating negative impact on the quality
of life. Unraveling the molecular mechanism of disease development is an important step towards
curing this chronic disease. To our knowledge, no published study has focused on an epigenetic
approach in HS using a genome wide high density methylation array. In the current study, CpG level
methylation statuses were obtained using Infinium HumanMethylation450 BeadChips for DNA
samples from HS subjects and normal controls. This enabled us to characterize differentially
methylated regions involved in HS pathogenesis and identify novel DNA methylation markers that
have not previously been reported with aberrant methylation in association with HS.
A ROC AUC ≥0.75 is generally characteristic of a good biomarker, and an AUC ≥0.9
represents an excellent biomarker. In the present study, we have identified 304 CpG markers, all
with an ROC AUC ≥0.75 and many with excellent diagnostic accuracy for the prediction of HS
status; most of them have not been investigated at the functional level. These 304 CpG sites on 304
genes are spread across noncoding and coding, exonic, promoter and intronic regions with the
largest number (32%) in the intron of the gene, further emphasizing the importance of gene
regulation by intronic sequences. Many of these hypermethylated sites contain an open chromatin
conformation and are occupied with a number of transcription factors, further suggesting that these

he could do some good by being there to keep an eye on them enough to prevent anything too bad

Number 11 Research Paper
Show business is a tough field, and even the biggest names in Hollywood need to build friendships.
Some of these friendships are fortunate enough to develop into dynamic duos: two people who
mutually support and respect each other without trying to outshine their counterpart. With that in
mind, here are Hollywood s top 10 dynamic duos.
Number Ten: Julianne Hough and Nina Dobrev. These girls know how to comfort each other s
broken hearts. After her split with Ryan Seacrest, Nina took Julianne out for a night at a basketball
game. Julianne did the same with Nina when she broke up with her co star Ian Somerhalder.
Always there to offer their shoulder to one another, these two definitely epitomize best friend goals.
Number Nine: Katy Perry and Rihanna. Not only have they shared the passion in music, but these
two have also bonded over fashion. Katy revealed the story of their friendship that started with a
sparkly Valentino bag. Rihanna also threw an awesome bachelorette party for Katy when she was

Some have labeled Oprah and Gayle one of the most infamous friendships in Hollywood. Winfrey
and King have been friends long before Oprah was a household name. For me, these ladies have one
of the most iconic friendships in showbiz.
Number Seven: Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. Although they have feuded and made up a
couple of times, Taylor has been Selena s rock especially during her extremely public breakup
with Justin Bieber. Not only have these two been friends for a long time, but they also become
birthday besties by throwing surprise parties for each other and their friends.
Number Six: Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts. Both of these Aussie actresses are known for their
perpetually glamorous style on the red carpet. Nicole and Naomi were classmates in high school,
and ever since then the two were always rocking the fashion scene, not to mention killing it with
their critically acclaimed roles in the film

Reflection After Events Analysis
Conclusion: Reflection after Events.
Coming back in time I enjoyed Adler s work, as it encapsulate that my personality is my goal at
the time. Furthermore to my surprise everything I knew about Freud was wrong. I always
assumed that what he said was exactly that. However I have not come across to any reference
where he points his fingers at personality and say Take that literary . After reading his words and
not opinions about him I shaped my interpretation. I started seeing him as a philosopher, an
academic adventurer driven by curiosity. This was not Freudian conception I was familiar with
and was far from my expectations. It seemed misleading to think that Freud s idea of personality

For example, the planning in reflection relies on assumption of cause and effect in the thinking
process. The limitation lay in timelines and approach that treats reflection as a fixed set of
outcomes. By limiting uncertainty and unpredictability one may limit the originality within the
conclusions achieved. All ideas that I have held dear were spontaneous scribbled on napkins, post
it notes and receipts. I was not able to think well on demand. However the model helped me to
concentrate and stay within boundaries of what I have expected to achieve or even reached beyond
that. Before reflecting, I never believed that I enjoy reading Sigmund Freud or Alfred Adler. I would
have grinned at the thought of admitting that they were more than fathers of psychology to me, a
part of my course work. Nonetheless, here I am, agreeing with both theorists and holding them
dear to the image of myself. Only after I counter balanced prejudice and the stereotype that was
embedded in me through student perspective and only when I disregarded other s opinion. I
discovered that both Adler and Freud discussed what I held personally dear, whether it was
described as a challenge or desire it underlined my inner world. There is no question to the fact
that I dwelled in awe when reading Freud s work and nodded at every paragraph when

Cyp27a1 Essay
Answer: Cytochrome P450 27A1 (CYP27A1) is an important cytochrome P450 enzyme which is
solely responsible for converting cholesterol to 27 hydroxoycholesterol. 27 hydroxycholesterol is
an oxysterol which can modulate estrogen and liver X receptors in a tissue specific manner.
Moreover, when 27 hydroxoycholesterol level is increased, estrogen and liver X receptors mediate
adverse effects of 27 hydroxoycholesterol in breast cancer. Therefore, regulation of CYP27A1 could
be potential target against breast cancer. The authors studied the regulation of CYP27A1 by 26
drugs from different therapeutic segment. During their study they showed some strengths as well as
some limitation. 2 pros and 2 cons of this study are elaborated below.
Pros
1. Study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drug binding assays: Spectrum of CYP27A1 changes due to the change between P450 heme iron
and a molecule in the sixth heme ligand. A water molecule is placed in that sixth heme ligand for
a resting state and substrate free P450 enzyme. Displacement of this water molecule or occupying
by another function group makes a spectrum difference for P450 enzyme. The authors used
spectral analysis for all 26 drugs to find out the CYP27A1 response to those drugs. In addition to
screening enzyme assay, spectral analysis of 26 drugs strengthens the paper.
Cons
1. Assessment of the CYP27A1 expression: The authors stated that CYP27A1 is the only enzyme
which converts cholesterol to 27 hydroxycholesterol in human. So they have measured the
concentrations of 27 hydroxycholesterol and cholesterol in mice. They interpreted CYP27A1
inhibition from those concentrations. However, they did not mention that CYP27A1 is the only
enzyme which converts cholesterol to 27 hydroxycholesterol in mice too. Therefore, we are not
sure that the only concentration of 27 hydroxycholesterol will make the authors conclusion valid.
The authors could use CYP27A1 knocked out mice to find the effect of the drugs on cholesterol
conversion without the CYP27A1 enzyme activity. In addition to that, they also could measure the
CYP27A1 mRNA expression for the drug treatments, to find the effect on CYP27A1 enzyme

The Influence Of Cheetos In Popular Culture
Popular culture is what combines ideas and objects generated by a society, including
commercial, political, media, and other systems, as well as the impact of these ideas and objects
on society. And food tends to be a part of it, since culture does indeed affect our eating practice.
One particular food that was introduced during the 1940s and is still going strong is Cheetos. And
here we are going to focus on how Cheetos came to be and the reasons why it was introduced and
its effect on our eatinghabits and diets.
Cheetos is a brand of cheese flavored, cornmeal snacks made by Frito Lay. Fritos creator Charles
Elmer Doolin invented Cheetos in 1948, and began national distribution in the U.S. In 2010,
Cheetos was ranked as the top selling brand of cheese puffs in the primary market of the United

The coating of cheese, salt tends to send our bain pleasure feelings, leading us to eat more and

In conclusion, Cheetos has and still is playing a big role in media attention, as the use of
convenience foods is increasing. What we eat is somehow determined by the interaction between
economic, technological, social values, in other words by pop culture.

The And Collective Memory Of The First World War
Contemporary Canadian reimagining of the First World war is from the book Catching the
torch by a Brock University teacher Neta Gordon. She wrote this book in 2014. She tries to
explain to the reader the conflict between history and collective memory of the First World War.
With many other essays, she focuses on the role of the Canadian army in the First World war. As
we know, the Canadian army entered the war in early 1915 to offer help to the Britain soldiers
fighting against the Germans. The Canadian army was basically forced to join because they were a
member of the British Empire.
On the one hand, Gordon quotes from Jonathan Vance s Death So Noble: Memory, meaning and
the First world war: the dominant or collective memory of a ... Show more content on

Most of the work that Gordon studied and with the publication date from this book, we can also
say that collective memory is not a whole. Most of the soldiers are dead at this time and she had
to rely on works that were published years later after the First War. Gordon quoted Winter in the
first few chapters of her book, he stated: This sense of the socially constructed nature of
collective memory is vital to historical study, since it precludes talking about memory as if it
exists independently of the people who share it (2). From what I understand from the few pages
that we had to read and with my research done with the whole book, the collective memory is
based on the present memory, but since the soldiers they rely on are no longer in a group or in the
same place, it is mostly a memory from one person.
Another thing she said that made me realize how true her statement was with the novel that we
studied during this term. She stated that: many of the narratives this volume examines rehabilitate
the figure of the father and/or conception of productive masculinity; many follow in the tradition
of early twentieth century home front novels by women to consider the value of female work, in
wartime and beyond [...] and most conclude with a look to the future (which is now the present)
and a sense of promise that is decidedly free from irony. (21 22)

Conflict Theory On Society And Human Behavior
Conflict theory is the view that the struggle for power in society and human behavior in social
contexts results from conflicts between competing groups (Siegel, 2015, pg.198). Ted Bundy
always acted alone in his crimes and was never a part of any group that suffered discrimination
or oppression by the government. Dr, Carlisle observed that Bundy was a private person who
won t open up and reveal himself to others. He doesn t want to be known by others (Ramsland,
2011, pg. 113). The most Bundy ever did was volunteer during his high school and early college
years in local political races. Politics gave me the opportunity to be close to people, he said. To
be socially involved with them... as a consequence of working with them. You get very close.
You drink each night and people sleep with each other. It s a sort of built in social life...In
politics you can move between the various strata of society. You can talk and mingle with people
to whom otherwise you would have absolutely no access (Michaud Aynesworth, 2000, pg. 11).
Marxist or Radical theory The Marxists theory was developed by Karl Marx who believed that
modern capitalism had turned workers into a dehumanized mass who lived an existence that was
at the mercy of their employers which led him to conclude that the character of every civilization
is determined by its mode of production (Siegel, 2015, pg. 199). Richard Quinney derived the
radical theory which is derived from the Marxist theory and describes how

Emotive Presence Inventory
III. Description of Instrument Of the big three questionnaires within presence measurement, the
ITC SOPI displays greater methodological concern can at all levels of its development than both the
SUS and the PQ. Its use of factor analysis post experimentation on a sample of much higher
variability (in both age and SES) and nearly quadruple in number to its nearest competitor provides
the instrument with considerable statistical power (Lessiter, Keogh, Davidoff, 2001). However, of
the 13 initial content areas from which all items and eventually the 4 primary factors were drawn
(sense of space, involvement, attention, distraction, control and manipulation, realness, naturalness,
perception of time, awareness of behavioral responses, sense of social interaction, personal
relevance, arousal, and negative effects) , one content area important to common conceptualizations
of presence was lacking: emotional investment. (Lessiter, Keogh, Davidoff, 2001). The PQ contains
items related to the emotional investment of VEs (item number 3, 23, 25, and 26) that were shown
to positively correlate with total PQ score (Witmer Singer, 1998). I make no claim that emotional
investment is somehow central to concept of presence; it seems clearly demonstrable that more
mundane acts of presence, like driving a car, require no emotional investment from an agent.

The United Nations Human Development
The Canada we know today is nothing like the Canada of the past, today it is ranked 8th on The

However, the nation we call home wasn t always this welcoming, democratic or peaceful; in fact
Canada has a very dark and violent past. Ever since the signing of the BNA Act in 1867, Canadahas
taken enormous strides and steps to develop into the nation before us. The gradual, yet impactful
development of LGBTRights within Canada is a perfect example of this. This particular
community of people had no rights whatsoever when Canada first became a nation, however
after a great deal of adversity and many years of struggle, this community has fought its way to
become equals under the eyes of the law. Undoubtedly, we can see this in the values of
Canadians and the laws which represent our morals. Today, Canada possess some of the most

not been completely abolished from Canada (as we cannot change the values of individuals or

this stage, many battles, cases, and fights were won. When Canada was first established as a

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF MARMELADOV S RECOLLECTION SCENE
Katerina Ivanovna must deal with a man who drinks his life away while his family starves.
Marmeladov recounts their suffering by first describing his loss of a job. He claims that, . .
.through no fault of mine but through changes in the office [I lost my place], and then I did touch it
[alcohol]! He attempted to educate his daughter, but what little knowledge ... Show more content on

even stooped so low as to stop at Sonia s to ask for a pick me up.
THE INCONSISTENCY OF RASKOLNIKOV S NARRATION OF THE CRIMEVERSES HIS
PREPARATION.
Roskolnikov s actual narration of the crime is definitely inconsistent with his preparation for the
crime. From the pre ceding pages of the novel, we continually see Roskolnikov s careful
premeditation and disgust at criminals who lose their senses and commit a crime that can easily be
traced to themselves. Roskolnikov dwells on the fact that the extraordinary criminals pay attention
to the details that can eventually lead to their downfall. He often comments: For this business one
should be as little conspicuous as possible. . . . Trifles, trifles are what matter! Why, it s just such
trifles that always ruin everything. . . . He spends days counting the number of steps it takes to
reach his victims apartment (exactly 730), and meticulously wraps a fake, wooden pledge in cloth,
constructs a noose to conceal the ax in his coat, and spends time memorizing where Alyona keeps
her keys all for the sake of performing a perfect crime. Yet, when he does eventually place his plan
into action: He was in a terrible haste, and he kept making mistakes. Roskolnikov runs into many
complications when trying to complete his crime

A Pair Of Tickets By Amy Tan Essay
In Amy Tan s, A Pair of Tickets, Tan uses a change in setting paralleled to a change in character
to reveal that when a person learns something new, whether it be about a culture or another
person, it changes the way they think and accept the world around them. June May is a 36 year
old woman of Chinese decent. She grew up in San Francisco, California and has never known
what it is to be Chinese. She has denied any sympathy to the culture and it has a lot to do with
the relationship she had with her now gone mother. Her mother believed that Once you are born
Chinese, you cannot help but feel and think Chinese. She also told June May, Someday you will
see, it s in your blood waiting to be let go. June May simply did not understand what her mother
meant when she said, I saw myself transforming like a werewolf, a mutant tag of DNA suddenly
triggered, replicating itself insidiously into a syndrome, a cluster of telltale Chinese behaviors, all
those things my mother did to embarrass me haggling with store owners, pecking her mouth with a
toothpick in public, being color blind to the fact that lemon yellow and pale pink are not good
combinations for winter. This shows that June May s perception on what it is to be Chinese is
greatly isolated to the things she saw her mother do. She has never been submerged in the Chinese
culture and does not understand how she could become Chinese. More importantly, she does not
understand the true desire of her mother s heart in reuniting

Compare and contrast the poems Anthem for Doomed Youth by...
Compare and contrast the poems Anthem for Doomed Youth by Wilfred
Owen and The Soldier by Rupert Brooke. What are the poets attitudes towards war and how do they
convey these attitudes?
Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth and Rupert Brooke s The
Soldier express opposing views towards war and matters related to it.
Owen condemns war as the cause of immense and painful loss of youths, killed like animals. He
also attacks the church, generally held to preserve human life and dignity, implying it is
powerless and irrelevant in a war situation. Brooke expresses ready acceptance (his view is meant
to be the general view) of possible death on his country s behalf in grateful return to her for having
bore, shaped and made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Brooke had mentioned materialistic things like special rights, possession or power then it gives
rise to the thought that his gratitude is questionable, because he has enjoyed privileges denied to
others.
In the second stanza, Brooke whole heartedly declares that he will return to England what he has
been given. In his poem, Brooke doesn t criticise war or religion but emphasises whole hearted
readiness to return to England what he has been given. The spiritual being created and enriched by
England is returned gratefully. Brooke doesn t mention anything about the horrors of war. Even
death is not presented as something repulsive or of a loss but instead as a repayment to his
country. He feels indebted to England and is completely happy to settle his debt. He will return to
England what she gave him his
dust and delightful thoughts .
Brooke s poem has a confident tone of quiet conviction. The whole poem sounds proud and
dignified. Much of the time Brooke just praises
England and this makes the poem seem cheerful even. The first four lines of his poem are very
patriotic If I should die, think only this of me In that rich earth a richer dust concealed . Brooke
says these lines in a quiet confident manner. The tone lightens from then, as he describes pleasant
things like flowers , love and rivers . The beginning of the second stanza repeats the first line, and
continues with a calm statement of returning England s

that was soon shut down by White and Mrs. Nesbit. Barrymore had even proposed to Evelyn but
she rejected him due to his low salary. After her small relationship with John Barrymore, she met
the rich railroad man known as Harry Thaw. Thaw and White were already rivals so as a way to
get back at White he began to pursuing Evelyn by showering her with gifts and money. He
proposed to Evelyn multiple times but was rejected because she had been warned by Stanford,
of Thaw s mental conditions and of his drug abuse. Another factor causing her to neglect his
proposals was she wouldn t marry him without confessing her past affair. After Evelyn recovered
from a surgery that some believed as an abortion surgery in 1902, Harry invited Mrs. Nesbit and
Evelyn on a trip across Europe. Halfway through the trip, Mrs. Nesbit returns back to the U.S.,
leaving Harry and Evelyn alone in Europe. Harry once again continues to propose to Evelyn but
becomes an frusturated as he is rejected once again. When she finally confesses her past sexual
affair with White, he blames Mrs. Nesbit for not taking good care of her daughter. While they
stayed at a castle in Austria, Harry would physically abuse Evelyn and then apologize right after.

The Usefulness Of Traditional Costing System
In the past decades, the world has witnessed major changes in the business environment; influenced
by mainly the technological and economic factors. We have also experienced a flux in the service
industries compared to manufacturing firms. In a sum business has become more global, dynamic
and competitive. This transition, requires management to be more innovative, alert and responsive
to the changes so that they can beat their competitors. Subsequently, value added activities and cost
reduction has become more important in his contemporary world of business. As such,
management accountants have to re think about their costing methods to ensure that the product
cost is rightly allocated, in view that the product cost has a clear aftermath on the pricing
decision of a product which also affect profitability. Product costing is a crucial subject
especially if the business is considering the application of the cost leadership strategy developed
by Michael Porter, (1980), as a tool to gain a competitive edge over its rivals. In this essay, we
will assess the usefulness of traditional costing system to managers and evaluate why it is no
longer satisfying the needs of managers. The activity based costing system will also be proposed as
an alternative approach or paradigm to the former system.
Traditional costing system was introduced decades ago to meet the demand of management
accounting in the manufacturing firms. This was vital to facilitate the allocation of overhead costs

The Importance Of Education In Mike Rose s Why School
Beyond the Classroom Education means something different for everyone. According to Mike
Rose, a good education helps us make sense of the world and find our way in it (33). The truth to
this is that education affects us in every aspect of our lives. Rose emphasizes the value in the
experience of education beyond the value of education for the purpose of custom or
intelligence; he explores the purpose of going to school in terms of how he defines himself and
his personal growth in the stages of his academic career. In Rose s exploration of the purpose of
school, he also reflects on his personal experiences and how those experiences gave him tools
that are applicable to his daily life. Mike Rose s Why School?: Reclaiming Education for All of
Us persuades his audience of the importance of education beyond the classroom, emphasizing
how those experiences become crucial to one s personal growth and potential. Rose elaborates on
the significance of education by reflecting on his own perspective on and how that shaped his
identity. His childhood gave him the opportunity to experience the contrast between a positive
learning environment and a negative one. This also shaped him to have an evident positive
outlook on education. He expresses, I ve experienced classrooms as both places of flat
disconnection and growth and inspiration, and this mix has proved invaluable as I myself have
gone on to teach (Rose 35). He further goes onto to discuss how this affected him when he was

  • 2. Organelles In Animal Cells Essay Organelles are the internal structures of the cell that are important for the cell to survive. Each organelle has a specific function for the cell. The types of organelles in the cell can be different from each other depending on the type of cell. Plant cells and animal cells both have a cytoskeleton, endoplasmic reticulum(smooth and rough), golgi apparatus, mitochondrion, nucleus, plasma membrane, and ribosomes. Animal and plant cells also have vacuoles, but they are rarely found in animal cells. Vacuoles in animal cells are very small compared to the vacuoles in plant cells. Lysosomes are also rarely found in plant cells but mostly found in animal cells. The cytoplasm is a semifluid in the plasma membrane. It is in all eukaryotic cells. In prokaryotes, this is where the chemical processes of the celltake place. In eukaryotic cells, this is where organelles perform their functions. Cellular respiration also takes place here. One of stages of cellular respiration is glycolysis. Glycolysis is when glucose breaks down to form two pyruvates and 4 ATP. Its net result of 2 ATP is important for another process called the Krebs Cycle. This process is important because it begins cellular respiration. The cytoplasm also gives the cell its shape; without it, the cell would be deflated and substances would not be able to move throughout the cell. Organelles would have difficulty functioning too. It has been misunderstood that organelles float freely in the cytoplasm even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Radical Racial Movements According to the Equal Justice Initiative, nearly 4,000 blacks were lynched in Jim Crow South between the years of 1877 and 1950 (Mackaman). The Black community has continuously battled segregation. Throughout the years there have been many radical movements all over the world to end segregation. Strong leaders came out of these movements people banned together for a common cause. While Segregation was a worldwide issue it seemed to be a lot worse in the southern states. For example, North Carolinahas a large history of radical racial movements in the following major cities: Wilmington, Charlotte, and Greensboro. When shares of common stock are issued to satisfy the exercise of employee stock options, are the shares issued from the Company s authorized but previously unissued shares or from the Company s treasury stock ? Where in the financial statements do you find this information? (page 44) According to the 10 K, the Company s common stock remains the same in 2011 and 2010 (75.5 million) while the treasury stock increased from 2615.2 to 3210.3 million, which means the Company didn t issue any authorized but previously unissued shares this year but satisfied the exercise of employee stock options by using the treasury stock they bought in fiscal year 2011. 2. Explain the earnings per share amount that you would recommend an investor should use to evaluate the company. (page 66) I would recommend an investor use the diluted EPS. For investors, it is important to value the business assuming all possible dilution that can take place will take place. According to the 10 K, the amount of exercised stock option is quite large annually, which means the increment in common shares is considerable. Using the diluted EPS will help the investor to evaluate the Company in a big picture. 7. How much would the diluted earnings per share be if the stock price were high enough to make all the stock options in the money. Assume that the exercise price of all stock options is $2 less that the average market price for 2011. (page 66 67) According to the 10 K, the exercise price is 22.59 per share, so we can conclude that the average market price is 24.59. • 5. Essay on Reader Response to The Silmarillion by J.R.R.... Position Paper: Reader response I read a book the other day. It was a wonderful book called The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. I really enjoyed it; it gives the background information on the creation of Middle Earth. In it, Tolkien tells us of IllГєvatar, EГ¤, the Valar and the birth of Elves, Dwarves and Men. But, you know, I don t think it has anything at all to do with Elves, Dwarves, Men and some god named IllГєvatar. I think Tolkien really wanted to write a Biblical allegory and a critique on ridiculous human nature really is. IllГєvatar is a substitution for God, the Valar substitute the Angels and the three god made races are representative of human races. I think he didn t use more races because that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now this letter is included in a book titled, The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, on pages 143 161. More importantly, it is in the preface to The Silmarillion, pages xi xxiv. In short, my taking the view that this novel is a Biblical allegory completely undermines what the author had in mind when he wrote The Silmarillion and even The Lord of the Rings. Technically, I can still take this view because Reader response criticism allows me too. I don t have to worry about what the author wanted, and maybe that is why the opinion that The Silmarillion is a biblical allegory is a widely shared opinion. One of the advantages to reader response is that the reader can read a novel the way they desire. It beats adhering to Marxist, Psychoanalytical or Feminist criticism. It gives more of a chance for the reader to be creative, and it gives a reader the chance to do the right thing, and maybe research the author a little bit. On the negative side, it gives the reader the chance to say, this is what it means, because I said so or it s my opinion, and you can t change it . I think that that is the major draw back to this school of criticism. A person can read anything into anything and if they are not a responsible critic, well then, anything s possible as long as you can prove it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarly to Nettie s doubts of her sister thinking she s dead, Celie invokes that God is the only reliable source in her life. The letters begin with Celie addressing herself to God because she s ashamed to tell anyone else (Bloom 54). • 9. Theories Of Explaining Behavior Through Observation Adolescent Psychology Term Paper Jamila Williams Tuskegee University Behavioral psychology is based on the concept of explaining behavior through observation. Behaviorists, psychologist that study behavior, believe a person can be understood through observing their behavior. This school of psychology assumes that we are born as a blank state and everyone is equal. However, environmental factors are what leads to us behaving differently from one another. American Psychologist and Founder of Behaviorism John B. Watson studied the ultimate goal to provide basis for prediction and control of human beings acquired through conditioning. Conditioning occurs through interaction with the environment. Scientist strongly believe that individuals respond to an environmental stimulus that shapes our actions. Russian Physiologist Ivan Pavlov and American Psychologist and Behaviorist B. F. Skinner broke down conditioning into two types: classical conditioning and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is a behavioral intervention technique by means of two stimuli being paired together in a consistent pattern to result in the same behavioral response. Pavlov was looking at salivation in dogs in response to being fed. His notion was that dogs can be taught to do certain things, for example dogs salivating when they see food. Operant conditioning is a similar technique that aims on the association between voluntary behavior and consequences. Skinner believed that subjects ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. My Family Experience This experience has been emotionally demanding for me and a bit awkward. First off, immediate family speaking, we have an implicit norm of not offending people by criticism their actions but also, it s weird to compliment people on their behaviour. We stick to thank you , I appreciate what you did and when there is a behaviour we find annoying we don t say a word. As for my big family, in which I include my immediate family (mom and brother), my boyfriend and my local church, we are allowed to give compliment and to share emotions with one another. With this context being placed, it was easier to compliment my church sister C and my boyfriend because we had this pre establish norm of it s acceptable to compliment and receive compliment and criticisms but a bit harder to throw the first one at my mom. The easiest appreciation to give was to my boyfriend, I have even say it twice. I believe it s because. We have a turning toward response to each other s bids (Gottman DeClaire, 2001) it makes it easier for us to compliment each other and even criticize politely one another. The hardest I would say was the first one that I gave to my mom, it felt like an ice breaker. I perceived it as breaking an implicit norm or rule we had for many years. As I have recorded, in the table above, the impressions I had from the three compliments /appreciations to my mother were each different, in her verbal response as well as my interpretations. • 11. Martin Seligman s Exploration Of Learned Helplessness,... The world of science consistently generates new studies in various fields, yielding results that can revolutionize society and shine light on the world we know so very little about. However, it is easy to get lost in specific studies and view each one as its own, independent discovery. And while each experiment provides an important look into the complexities of this world, science is an amalgamation of many discoveries strung together in complex ways. This way, the merits of each study can interrelate in order to further understand something else. In the realm of positive psychology, it is important that a number of different scientific discoveries work together to explain an overarching topic. For example, two studies that are interrelated are Martin Seligmans exploration of learned helplessness, and Roy Baumeister s study on willpower depletion. Both are important in their own rights, but by comparing both Seligman and Baumeister s experiments, scientists can discuss the overarching concept of willpower as a depletable resource. Psychologist Martin Seligman conducted an experiment that aimed to understand more about classical conditioning. In his study, he rang a bell and lightly shocked a dog. Eventually, if the dog heard the bell, it would react to the shock before it even happened. This was all good, it was a great example of classical conditioning, but the truly interesting part of the study came later. Seligman constructed a box with a small wall in the middle. ... The study also found that children who were in a single parent or step parent home by the time they were ten were more than twice as likely to be arrested by age 14. Children who never lived with their own father had the highest likelihood of being arrested.[5] According to Patrick F. Fagan, Ph. D. that the children living with the single mother are six times more likely to live in poverty than are children whose parents are married.[6] According to Dr. Verna Hildebrand parenting involves many commitments and responsibilities. Perhaps the greatest of this is helping a child develop a positive self concept and high self esteem. With these assets, a child will be better able to make wise decisions, relate well to others, and assume responsibilities for his or her life.[7] Conceptual Framework [pic] Figure 1 The paradigm shows that both family, broken and complete, may affect the youth s outlook in life in relation to: faith, family, moral, marriage, behavior towards others, decision making. According to identitytheft.info, almost 15 million Americans have their identity used fraudulently due to information leaks and information insecurities. With the growing dependency on computer systems to store confidential information across the world, it is only necessary that that the information be protected by strong securitysystems which include both hardware and software so that both the businesses and the consumers feel safe in the transportation of information over the inter webs. Contemporary Information securitysystems use many different components involving both hardware and software Primarily, User Access Control or UAC systems are combinations of identification, authentication, and authorization that helps restrict users to what information they can access in a database system with certain read and write rights. Most of the identification systems operate by using a simple serial ID followed by an identity challenge such as a password (Blanding F. 2004). UAC is the most fundamental access control technology as without it, there cannot be further information systems. Within the UAC system, the system administrator designates users rights and accesses which helps develop the login authentication aspect. The system administrator is the primary local account that authorized personnel can use to create system logins for users with certain privileges. He did not tell us anything about the characters, but he takes us into the mind of each character to analyze what we see there. Furthermore, Faulkner demonstrates Anse s selfishness with him not realizing that Jewel is the product of Addie s affair. Anse is so self absorbed that he has no clue that Addie had an affair or that Jewel is not is son. Anse is so useless and selfish he is almost dismissed as an individual. Anse views the flood and the fire as more crosses to bear before he can get his new teeth. He has no concern or regard with what the journey is doing to his children. His selfishness is also expressed when he says, I don t, won t begrudge her. (Faulkner 56). Anse forgives Addie for all the problems that she caused throughout the journey this moreover demonstrates his selfishness. Anse is constantly indebted to others, but he refuses to recognize his obligation and excuses himself with his comment, I aint beholden. (Faulkner 46). One would think that the death of his wife would bring him closer to his children but it does not. He only has one reason to complete the journey and that is to get his new teeth. However both Antarctica and Greenland have very sensitive environments and increases like that can lead to species being endangered or even extinct. In Fact the International Union for Conservation of Nature claims that 11 of the 17 known penguin species are at risk of extinction. Adelie penguins are at the most risk. This is because of breeding struggles. Adelie penguins build a nest with small pebbles at the Antarctic shoreline that aren t covered in snow (National Geographic, N.D). First two at Camp Foster in Okoboji, Iowa; the third at Camp Chief Ouray in Colorado. It s difficult to pick one or two of my favorite moments from these three years, but one thing is certain, I learned more from my three years working with kids than any life experiences thus far. People often ask me, why do you enjoy working with kids? The best answer I can think of is simple. I love working with kids because it s challenging. The challenge is twofold, kids are in constant need of justification, and kids push you to think creatively. Anyone that has experience with kids knows a child s favorite question is why? Why is it their favorite? (See what I did there?) It s their favorite question because their actions need justification. If you are unable to provide adequate justification and purpose for doing a task, good luck! Despite their differences, both Friendsand Seinfeldportrayed friendship and humanity in relatable ways, and molded friendship comedies of the future. For one, Seinfeld depicted life in New York City(and in general) more sarcastically and cynically than Friends, and had a specific focus on Jewish New York culture and life. In this manner, Seinfeld risked alienating the Middle America demographic, which, at the time, made up a strong majority of television viewers. Seinfeld also utilized meta theatricality and meta humor, which were often about the show itself and its creators, as well as inside jokes, which could be daunting to viewers who were not already familiar with the series. It was also generally a less warm show than series like Friends, and its humor was more specific and sarcastic, which meant it was less generally accessible. This was, however, part of Seinfeld s draw. As much as Seinfeld may have been about a group of awful people, it was also about a group of misanthropic friends who all recognized the awful things about each other, and accepted each other all the same. Da Vinci was more known as an artist and scientist, but was also an inventor, architect, musician, mathmation, engineer, astronomy, writer, historian, and geologist. Da Vinci s artwork of The Last Supper is as a piece of art that captures the moment of Christ just after he tells his disciples that one of them will betray him is a very influential moment of the bible and is beautifully depicted in this art work. I believe this work of art is a stand alone piece of art that is great in that it shows Christ in the moment having his hands spread apart showing that they are pointed at a piece of bread and a glass of wine. Which in turn represents the body of Christ in the bread and the blood of Christ in the wine, which is the sacrament. What is also interesting about the painting is that Jesus s hand that is reaching for the wine is also near a dish on the table which Judas is reaching for symbolizing that fact that Judas is the one who betrays Jesus and has a bag of silver in his other hand in the painting. As for William Byrd, I believe his music is beautiful in the fact that it is very calming and easy listening, which makes me just want to listen to more of it. His style of music reminds me of the Gothic era of music in a way because of the deep echo voices in the background, but it has more to it as the other singers bring a more full sound to the piece of music and make the texture a nice soft but abrasive type of listening that has emotion in its sound. Unraveling the molecular mechanism of disease development is an important step towards curing this chronic disease. To our knowledge, no published study has focused on an epigenetic approach in HS using a genome wide high density methylation array. In the current study, CpG level methylation statuses were obtained using Infinium HumanMethylation450 BeadChips for DNA samples from HS subjects and normal controls. This enabled us to characterize differentially methylated regions involved in HS pathogenesis and identify novel DNA methylation markers that have not previously been reported with aberrant methylation in association with HS. A ROC AUC ≥0.75 is generally characteristic of a good biomarker, and an AUC ≥0.9 represents an excellent biomarker. In the present study, we have identified 304 CpG markers, all with an ROC AUC ≥0.75 and many with excellent diagnostic accuracy for the prediction of HS status; most of them have not been investigated at the functional level. These 304 CpG sites on 304 genes are spread across noncoding and coding, exonic, promoter and intronic regions with the largest number (32%) in the intron of the gene, further emphasizing the importance of gene regulation by intronic sequences. • 26. Cyp27a1 Essay Answer: Cytochrome P450 27A1 (CYP27A1) is an important cytochrome P450 enzyme which is solely responsible for converting cholesterol to 27 hydroxoycholesterol. 27 hydroxycholesterol is an oxysterol which can modulate estrogen and liver X receptors in a tissue specific manner. Moreover, when 27 hydroxoycholesterol level is increased, estrogen and liver X receptors mediate adverse effects of 27 hydroxoycholesterol in breast cancer. Therefore, regulation of CYP27A1 could be potential target against breast cancer. The authors studied the regulation of CYP27A1 by 26 drugs from different therapeutic segment. Displacement of this water molecule or occupying by another function group makes a spectrum difference for P450 enzyme. The authors used spectral analysis for all 26 drugs to find out the CYP27A1 response to those drugs. In addition to screening enzyme assay, spectral analysis of 26 drugs strengthens the paper. Cons 1. Assessment of the CYP27A1 expression: The authors stated that CYP27A1 is the only enzyme which converts cholesterol to 27 hydroxycholesterol in human. So they have measured the concentrations of 27 hydroxycholesterol and cholesterol in mice. They interpreted CYP27A1 inhibition from those concentrations. However, they did not mention that CYP27A1 is the only enzyme which converts cholesterol to 27 hydroxycholesterol in mice too. Therefore, we are not sure that the only concentration of 27 hydroxycholesterol will make the authors conclusion valid. The authors could use CYP27A1 knocked out mice to find the effect of the drugs on cholesterol conversion without the CYP27A1 enzyme activity. She wrote this book in 2014. She tries to explain to the reader the conflict between history and collective memory of the First World War. With many other essays, she focuses on the role of the Canadian army in the First World war. As we know, the Canadian army entered the war in early 1915 to offer help to the Britain soldiers fighting against the Germans. Most of the soldiers are dead at this time and she had to rely on works that were published years later after the First War. Gordon quoted Winter in the first few chapters of her book, he stated: This sense of the socially constructed nature of collective memory is vital to historical study, since it precludes talking about memory as if it exists independently of the people who share it (2). From what I understand from the few pages that we had to read and with my research done with the whole book, the collective memory is based on the present memory, but since the soldiers they rely on are no longer in a group or in the same place, it is mostly a memory from one person. Another thing she said that made me realize how true her statement was with the novel that we studied during this term. She stated that: many of the narratives this volume examines rehabilitate the figure of the father and/or conception of productive masculinity; many follow in the tradition of early twentieth century home front novels by women to consider the value of female work, in wartime and beyond [...] and most conclude with a look to the future (which is now the present) and a sense of promise that is decidedly free from irony. THE INCONSISTENCY OF RASKOLNIKOV S NARRATION OF THE CRIMEVERSES HIS PREPARATION. Roskolnikov s actual narration of the crime is definitely inconsistent with his preparation for the crime. From the pre ceding pages of the novel, we continually see Roskolnikov s careful premeditation and disgust at criminals who lose their senses and commit a crime that can easily be traced to themselves. Roskolnikov dwells on the fact that the extraordinary criminals pay attention to the details that can eventually lead to their downfall. He often comments: For this business one should be as little conspicuous as possible. . . . Trifles, trifles are what matter! Why, it s just such trifles that always ruin everything. . . . He spends days counting the number of steps it takes to reach his victims apartment (exactly 730), and meticulously wraps a fake, wooden pledge in cloth, constructs a noose to conceal the ax in his coat, and spends time memorizing where Alyona keeps her keys all for the sake of performing a perfect crime. Yet, when he does eventually place his plan into action: He was in a terrible haste, and he kept making mistakes. Roskolnikov runs into many complications when trying to complete his crime ... • 40. A Pair Of Tickets By Amy Tan Essay In Amy Tan s, A Pair of Tickets, Tan uses a change in setting paralleled to a change in character to reveal that when a person learns something new, whether it be about a culture or another person, it changes the way they think and accept the world around them. June May is a 36 year old woman of Chinese decent. She grew up in San Francisco, California and has never known what it is to be Chinese. She has denied any sympathy to the culture and it has a lot to do with the relationship she had with her now gone mother. Her mother believed that Once you are born Chinese, you cannot help but feel and think Chinese. She also told June May, Someday you will see, it s in your blood waiting to be let go. June May simply did not understand what her mother meant when she said, I saw myself transforming like a werewolf, a mutant tag of DNA suddenly triggered, replicating itself insidiously into a syndrome, a cluster of telltale Chinese behaviors, all those things my mother did to embarrass me haggling with store owners, pecking her mouth with a toothpick in public, being color blind to the fact that lemon yellow and pale pink are not good combinations for winter. This shows that June May s perception on what it is to be Chinese is greatly isolated to the things she saw her mother do. She has never been submerged in the Chinese culture and does not understand how she could become Chinese. More importantly, she does not understand the true desire of her mother s heart in reuniting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What are the poets attitudes towards war and how do they convey these attitudes? Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth and Rupert Brooke s The Soldier express opposing views towards war and matters related to it. Owen condemns war as the cause of immense and painful loss of youths, killed like animals. He also attacks the church, generally held to preserve human life and dignity, implying it is powerless and irrelevant in a war situation. Brooke expresses ready acceptance (his view is meant to be the general view) of possible death on his country s behalf in grateful return to her for having bore, shaped and made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If Brooke had mentioned materialistic things like special rights, possession or power then it gives rise to the thought that his gratitude is questionable, because he has enjoyed privileges denied to others. In the second stanza, Brooke whole heartedly declares that he will return to England what he has been given. In his poem, Brooke doesn t criticise war or religion but emphasises whole hearted readiness to return to England what he has been given. The spiritual being created and enriched by England is returned gratefully. Brooke doesn t mention anything about the horrors of war. Even death is not presented as something repulsive or of a loss but instead as a repayment to his country. He feels indebted to England and is completely happy to settle his debt. He will return to England what she gave him his dust and delightful thoughts . Brooke s poem has a confident tone of quiet conviction. The whole poem sounds proud and dignified. Much of the time Brooke just praises England and this makes the poem seem cheerful even. The first four lines of his poem are very patriotic If I should die, think only this of me In that rich earth a richer dust concealed . Brooke says these lines in a quiet confident manner. The tone lightens from then, as he describes pleasant things like flowers , love and rivers . The beginning of the second stanza repeats the first line, and continues with a calm statement of returning England s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
