Digital Literacy And The Public Education
Discussion Post #4
How important is digital literacy considered to be in our current public education? How important do
you think digital literacy is?
The American Library Association defines digital literacy as the ability to use information and
communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both
cognitive and technical skills. This definition is important to the discussion of the digital divide,
defined by Morse (2004) as inequitable use of computer technology (p. 268). We learned from our
readings that the divide between lower SES students and their wealthier counterparts in terms of first,
access to technology (hardware, software, broadband Internet) and second, what Banister and Fischer
(2010) called the opportunity for use (p. 3). With increased government funding over the past two
decades, schools have seen access to technology improve. Warschauer and Matuchniak (2011)
explained the significance of the federal government s e Rate program, which has provided a
whopping $2 billion per year for broadband and Internet access for schools (p. 188). Yet the softer
costs, such as technical support staff, and which are not funded by the federal government mean that
even when the infrastructure and actual hardware and software are present, teachers and students may
be unable to access them. The interesting divide is also largely based on SocioEconomic Status: the
opportunity for use of technology. The expectations for

The Italian Renaissance s Life And Life Of Filippo...
Filippo Brunelleschi The Italian Renaissance, ranging between the 1400 s 1600 s, was a time that
continued classicism in culture, art, and architecture. Architecture in particular applied classical
vocabulary and forms to contemporary building functions and types. Many well known individuals
helped shape this period of time, Brunelleschi included. Not much is known about Filippo
Brunelleschi s early life. He was born 1377, the second son of Ser Brunellesco Di Lippo Lapi, in
Florence, Italy. While growing up in a political household, due to his father holding a distinct notary
position, expectations were held high for him to follow the same path as his father. He was even given
a formal education fit for that lifestyle. Though going against expectations, Brunelleschi followed in
his brother s footsteps to become a goldsmith and joined the Silk Merchants guild. It took him a total
of six years to be awarded the title of master. He gained experience not only as a goldsmith but also in
sculpting and mechanics. In 1401, a contested sponsored by the Wool manufacturers Guild was
publicly announced. It called for new bronze panels on the Baptistery doors. Seven candidates entered
the competition but only Filippo Brunelleschi and Lorenzo Ghiberti succeeded in becoming finalists.
Everyone was given the same material and subject, the Sacrifice of Isaac, but their final piece couldn t
have been any more different. Brunelleschi s design featured a more humanistic approach with drama

New England Middle And Southern Colonies
During the tobacco boom of the 1620s, two English colonies located along Chesapeake Bay, Maryland
and Virginia, were the first to prosper in North America. From 1624 to 1752, thirteen English colonies
emerged along the Eastern coast of North America, with a multitude of diversities among them that
transformed the map of the English New World. Colonial life within these three regions: New
England, middle, and southern colonies was diverse because of the varying geography, economy, and
society the colonists had constructed. To begin with, the English colonies were awfully diverse based
on the environment that they were founded on. Each region consisted of different growing seasons,
agriculture, and climates. Simultaneously, the New England colonies (New Hampshire,
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut) were founded upon hilly and mountainous terrain that
consisted of many rivers, rocky soil, and the coldest climate of all three regions. The long, harsh
winters meant for the shortest growing season, leading the New England colonists to discover new
ways of making income. In these northern colonies, fish, timber, and furs were their resources.
Meanwhile in the middle colonies (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware), flat land,
rich soil, , navigable waters and coastal plains that stretched as far as the Appalachian foothills led to
the Pennsylvania colony being the first to prosper in North America for England. Family farmers had a
rich, level growing land as

Shakespeare And The World Of Hamlet
The world of Hamlet and the world of its playwright, William Shakespeare, are similar in many
aspects such as politics and the way women are treated. Another similarity of both worlds is the
education system. It is known that Prince Hamlet attends the University of Wittenberg as King Cladius
and Queen Gertrude are against Hamlet s return to Wittenberg, stating that [i]t is most retrograde to
[their] desire (Shakespeare I.ii.114). The fact that Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, attends university
shows that the world of Hamlet, without a doubt, resembles Shakespeare s world. This is because in
Shakespeare s world, university is only available to the males of noble and royal families for only they
have enough time and money to learn (Elizabethan Era

Smoking Vs Grilling Research
If you want to become a grilling expert, it is important to learn about the two main ways to cook over
an open flame: smoking and grilling. What are their main differences? Is the flavor from one different
from the flavor from the other? We will consider these questions and more as we look at smoking vs.
grilling. What is the difference between smoking and grilling?
Smoking is an ancient method of preserving meats using smoke, indirect heat and low cooking
temperatures. The original reason for using this method had more to do with preserving the meat than
with flavor. These days, it is used mostly for the flavor and for making meat tender by breaking down
the connective tissue in it. Properly smoked meats acquire a smoke ring. This term refers to the layer
of meat just beneath the exterior. It is especially visible in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whereas the heat used to smoke meat is indirect and low, the heat used for grilling is direct and high.
Grilling is not so much about breaking down collagen and making meat tender as it is about
caramelizing the exterior and sealing in juices to keep the interior moist. What about taste?
The flavor of grilled meat versus the flavor slow smoked meat is the basis of yet another big culinary
debate. Many chefs believe that the flavor of slow smoked meat is superior to that of grilled meat;
however, it is possible to have best of both worlds with the use of wood chips or wood chunks. The
ideal wood for smoking is thought to come from certain species of fruit or nut trees. Apple, peach and
pecan woods are all thought to be excellent for slow smoking meats. Can you get a smoky flavor from
grilling?
Yes, you can. One of the easiest ways to do this with a charcoal grilling is to add wood chips. Simply
toss a handful of chips onto your smoldering coals to create smoke that will flavor your meat. You can
also mix chunks of wood in with the coals to smoke meat for longer

Hunting The Elements Analysis
Over the duration of viewing Hunting the Elements I learned about various scientific topics including,
the elements, what all living things are composed of, CHNOPS, rare earth elements, and even the
origins of elements. The elements were organized by Dimitri Mendeleév. He organized them by
properties (columns), groups (horizontal), and atomic number (the number of protons and electrons).
This became known as the Periodic Table. And currently there are 118 elements. He also found gaps in
which elements that were yet to be discovered were to go, three of these unknown elements were
found and identified in Mendeleév s lifetime. The elements today are used in everything and 75% of
the 118 elements are metal. Each element has a certain amount ... Show more content on

exportation. Scientists are engineering powerful rare earth magnets by combining iron, boron, and
trying to reduce the neodymium, these rare earth magnets are not naturally found. And scientist all
over the world have found creative and innovative uses for these magnets. For example a scientist has
found that he can reduce the deaths of sharks by using magnets to repel the sharks by attaching it to
fishing hooks. Though the hook was also attracted to the metal so he found the magnet with the least
magnetic force, called samarium, that would also produce the same

The Nazi Party And The Nazis
The Nazi s quest to unite Germany under the notion of One People, One Empire affected and impacted
many social groups in Germany. Women were utilized by the Nazi Party in ensuring the survival and
production of the future generations of Germany, and maintaining the ideal and traditional version of
the Aryan mother and wife. There was also a lot of pressure directed towards artists and writers. Who
in the eyes of the Nazi party, were meant to conform to art forms such as neoclassicism and traditional
styles as to promote the Aryan ideals and power of Nazi Germany. German youth was also captivated,
indoctrinated and utilized by the Nazi Party, in order to fulfil Hitler s visions of future Germany, with
strong Aryan leaders and soldiers.
The Nazi party manipulated the education and upbringing of many German youths, garnering their
loyalty, strength and numbers through the concept of racial unity. The Youth began as the very first
and essential step in creating a new generation of Nazi s who would eventually come to inherit
Germany. The German education system had been hijacked and transformed in order to encapsulate an
entire generation of youths into fighting for one cause, the Nazi Cause. Especially at an age, were
children were susceptible to the vigour and power of authority. Simple things such as children s
picture books and bedtime stories had been altered to portray Jewish characters as villainous and
sinister, and Aryans as heroes and legendary. School subjects

Bartleby The Scrivener Identity Analysis
The text was extracted from the last part of Bartleby the Scrivener, A Story of Wall Street, written by
Herman Neville. The narrator is Bartleby´s boss, who is a flat character and his name is hidden from
the reader´s view, and almost all the action of the story happens around Bartleby and this hidden
narrator, who is not represented physically. This unknown person without face could be the first
reference to the capitalist system, as a reference to an unknown superior entity that make commands.
However, the narrator is only an ant in the difficult way to the richness in the capitalism.
There is another reference to unknown entity, the Dead Letter Office of Washington, a huge entity
from where Bartleby was rejected for unknown reason. This entity is where the last undelivered
communications to the dead are burned without ever having been read. How could be a person
working there without lose his mind? Bartleby represents this sector of the society, those who are
living is a tiring and arduous process, full of numbing compromises and submission to meaningless
tasks. The mortality is unavoidable, for Bartleby to be rejected is like a poison that consumes him until
his death. He does not eat, work or even socialize with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some critics who look at Bartleby the Scrivener as a comment on Melville s life believe the dead
letters may represent his unpopular novels, such as Moby Dick. These novels, like the letters, may be
errands of life, offering the reader great insight into their life, but the novels, like the letters, have no
one to read them. The letters could also make a good metaphor for the drudgery of the emerging
middle class. Sorting letters day in and day out could eventually be difficult for anyone to endure for a
long time, and such repetitive tasks are, even today, a common source of depression for some
employees. By making them dead letters, Melville makes the depressing nature of such a task more

How Khadijah Is Becoming A Successful Individual
A Drive to Succeed Khadijah is becoming a successful individual. Her past identity impelled her to
her new identity as an intellectual stable college student at Harvard. Khadijah is a brave fighter who is
willing to succeed. She is an 18 year old high school student trying to make it out of the streets by
using her academic achievements. Her mother had her at the age of fourteen and was a drop out.
Khadijah and her family are homeless; she has moved schools over twelve times. At school she had a
different identity where no one knew she was poor because she always held her dignity. Being a
homeless 18 year old she was accepted to numerous elite universities such as Brown, Columbia,
Amherst, and Williams. School was the only thing Khadijah knew growing up in the streets and in
shelters. School was her only home, away from being with the thugs, dealers, and prostitutes. She
never doubted her capabilities to strive for success. Khadijah s academic achievements drove her away
from her indigent social class to be a prestigious individual in society. Khadijah never got it easy, she
had to work her way up to success. The article explains, She awoke at 4 a.m. and returned at 11 p.m.,
and kept her grade point average at jut below a 4.0 while participating in the Academic Decathlon, the

her success in school; though she was homeless and had no financial help or stability.

What Was The Relationship Between The Neolithic And...
The Neolithic and Industrial Revolutions
The two changes in the use of the earth s resources that had the greatest effect on the world population
were the Neolithic and the industrial revolutions.
The Neolithic revolution (a.k.a. agricultural revolution) was a change in the way of life of our
ancestors. It took place about 8000 years ago among various tribes in Asia and the Middle East. It
included a transition from foraging and hunting to the domestication of animals (most probably
starting with the dog) and to farming. Tribes settled in fertile areas and formed agricultural
communities many of which grew into villages and cities. This relatively stable way of life and the
more reliable food supply (and surplus) led to the development ... Show more content on

Biogeochemical cycles
In the carbon cycle, the key events are the complementary reactions of respiration and photosynthesis.
Respiration takes carbohydrates and oxygen and combines them to produce carbon dioxide, water, and
energy. Photosynthesis (6CO + 12H O + Light Energy C H O + 6O +6H O) takes carbon dioxide and
water and produces carbohydrates and oxygen. The outputs of respiration are the inputs of
photosynthesis, and the outputs of photosynthesis are the inputs of respiration. The reactions are also
complementary in the way they deal with energy. Photosynthesis takes energy from the sun and stores
it in the carbon carbon bonds of carbohydrates; respiration releases that energy. Both plants and
animals carry on respiration, but only plants and other producers can carry on photosynthesis. The
chief reservoirs for carbon dioxide are in the oceans and in rock. Carbon dioxide dissolves readily in
water. Once there, it may precipitate as a solid rock known as calcium carbonate. Corals and algae
encourage this reaction and build up limestone reefs in the process. On land and in the water, plants
take up carbon dioxide and convert it into carbohydrates through photosynthesis. This carbon in the
plants now has 3 possible endings. It can be returned to the atmosphere by the plant through
respiration; it can be eaten by an animal, or it can be present in the plant when the plant dies. Animals
obtain all their carbon in their food, and, thus, all carbon

Abortion Executive Branch
The purpose of this American government research paper is to discuss the topic of abortion and how it
relates to the three branches of the American government. This essay will research the Executive,
Judicial and Legislative branches. I will use research from sources to cover how this topic plays out in
the government along with its effects on the American people. The US Federal Government has dealt
with abortion by different facts between the Executive Branch, the Judicial Branch, and the
Legislative Branch. Abortion is a process that terminates pregnancy. The decisions that the
government are trying to put in play are hard because everyone has different views on abortions.
While, the Supreme Court s, the laws, and the president all are trying to reduce abortion, it is like
taking away from another life that is being created. Still, until this day they are still trying to have
decisions on abortions. It remains a relevant topic on major news stations and as recently with attacks

The Role of the Community Reinvestment Act on the 2007...
The Role of the Community Reinvestment Act on the 2007 Housing Bubble Collapse The reality of
the worst financial crisis in the last 80 years has led to wide speculation of its causes. While a plethora
of theories have been offered, none have been as persistent and as patently false as the assertion that
the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 played a significant role in the housing bubble collapse.
Critics of the Community Investment Act (CRA) argue that by pushing banks to meet the credit needs
of low income borrowers, the law forced lending institutions to take on riskier loans that proved to be
fiscally irresponsible. The securitization and speculation of these low quality loans led to the housing
bubble collapse and the wider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Act dictated that relevant supervisory agencies ensure depository banks fulfill the credit and
lending needs in the areas in which they were chartered. The Act goes on to state that all business
must continue to be conducted within sound operating practices. Compliance (or lack thereof) would
be taken into account when approving applications for expansion through new charters, mergers and
acquisitions. The law makes no attempt to evaluate the performance of any given institution, nor does
it establish minimum criteria for granting an individual or business a loan. The CRA does not mandate
that an institution take on any particular types of loans, or approve certain applicants.
With the obvious incentives of complying with the CRA, local bankers began to tap into markets that
would have been considered prior to CRA enforcement in the late 70 s. These lower income areas
proved fiscally viable, and began to draw the attention of financial institutions other than depository
banks. These investment banks were involved in speculative investment and resale of mortgages and
were not regulated under the terms of the CRA. Non CRA covered lending institutions have played an
increasingly large role in lending to low income neighborhoods since the law was enacted. The
primary claim of those who believe the CRA played a

The constant answer of nevermore sent the narrator in a frenzy, just as Poe knew Virginia would no
longer come back and he turned to alcohol. At that moment the situation was made worse. The
narrator is hoping when he dies he s going to see Lenore in Heaven as Poe is hoping to see Virginia.
When the raven says nevermore it gives the narrator idea that she possibly did not make it to Heaven,
and he would not see Lenore anymore. Since Virginia was also known as Lenore, one could believe
that Poe is relating to the poem to him seeing Virginia again in Heaven. Poe s The Raven is the poem
that stands out the most because in it, Poe determines it is some kind of messenger coming to Poe to
answer whether he will ever see his love Lenore. Poe had many great poems and short stories such as

Informative Issues In Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katarina was a category 5 hurricane that made landfall on the United States Gulf Coast in
the early A.M of August 29, 2005. Bringing with it 100 140 mile an hour winds and covering a
diameter of 400 miles it roared ashore destroying flood levees and destroying everything in its path,
and causing in excess of $100 Billion worth of destruction. It was at that time the worst disaster in
United States history. There has been a lot of debate during and after the disaster about the
government s handling of the crisis. A lot of people believe that the government dropped the ball and
did not really attempt to help the citizens of New Orleans and the surrounding area. This paper will
not attempt to sway the reader to any particular side but will present the reader with facts and let the
reader made their own informed decision.
It was no secret that there was a great risk for disaster as Hurricane Katrina approached the coast.
There was a great fear because it was known that the levees surrounding the city of New Orleans were
weak and in danger of collapse in normal circumstances and almost certain to break in the face of the
power of a storm such as Hurricane Katrina was likely to present. In light of this government officials
started preparing for the storm some days in advance. On the 26 of August the Governor of Louisiana
declared a state of emergency which help fast track the start of relief preparations. This was also the
same day the request for additional personnel

only males can act on stage. For over 400 years, women have only been allowed in the audience and
not on stage. But ironically, a woman named Izumo Okuni along with her female troupe originally
created the theatre. Okuni, who may have come from the shrine of Izumo, set up a temporary stage in

The Demon Queller Glare makeup is so powerful that supposedly the actor can make a glaring pose to
scare away any evil spirits. Based on the Samurai pattern, this makeup is accomplished by leaving the
eyelids white but framing the eyes above and below with black lines. The makeup emphasizes the
actor s eyes as much as possible, and makes them seem to grow wider and wider as he stares
(Agostino 4). Sometimes actors draw in eyes on their closed eyelids to make them look even bigger
for the ideal glaring pose (Heinrichs 118). In earlier days, the Kabuki actor would apply Kumadori
makeup with his fingers so he could follow his bone structure, outlining the right places to make it
look even bolder. Kumadori makeup is still very popular today. Expressed through bold and dramatic
designs painted with fingers and brushes, it remains the center of attention in Kabuki. Common
characters in Kabuki theatre each have basic makeup colors and patterns that they wear often, which
each color representing a different emotion (Agostino 5). The colors most commonly used are red,
black, pale green, light blue, and indigo, where red stands for anger, black represents fear, pale green
stands for calmness, light blue represents sadness, pink indicates youth, and indigo stands for
gloominess. Also, in Kumadori makeup different shades of white are used to represent class, age, and

the loss of employment, but their dismissal was still considered unfair in the circumstances. This
occurred in Christopher Toms v Harbour City Ferries Pty Ltd as the commission found, before the

ABSTRACT
DEFINING ISLAMIC WAY OF WARFARE AND ITS COMPARISON WITH AL
QAEDA DOCTRINE, by Major Intekhab Haider Khan, 85 pages.
With the rise of Al Qaeda and like minded militant groups, there have been many discussions and
misrepresentations of the term Islamic way of warfare. It is important to understand that anything, to
be qualified as Islamic, has to have a reference from the core sources of Islam, i.e. the Quran, and the
practices and sayings of Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH). This research is focused to define an Islamic way of warfare based on these fundamental
sources, with a view to identifying whether Al Qaeda is truly Islamic or not.
This thesis identifies that Islam does not dictate minor tactical matters of warfare, rather focuses its
guidance on warfare in two broad categories: the just cause for waging war, and limited restrictions on
conduct during the war.

The Influence of Religion in Phillis Wheatley s Life Essay
The Influence of Religion in Phillis Wheatley s Life
Phillis Wheatley overcame extreme obstacles, such as racism and sexism, to become one of the most
acclaimed poets in the 18th Century. Her works are characterized by religious and moral backgrounds,
which are due to the extensive education of religion she received. In this sense, her poems also fit into
American Poetry. However, she differs in the way that she is a black woman whose writings tackle
greater subjects while incorporating her moral standpoint. By developing her writing, she began
speaking out against injustices that she faced and, consequently, gave way to authors such as
Gwendolyn Brooks and Countee Cullen.

In general, religion was a large part of Boston. Few slaves were encouraged to attend church;
however, the Wheatleys attended New South Congregational Church and encouraged Phillis to
embrace the Lord as they had (Mason 4). Because she was asthmatic, she attended Old South
Congregational Church, which was closer to the Wheatley residence (Weidt 15).
By the age of twelve, she had become quite familiar with the Bible as well as literary works of
contemporary English poets. In addition, she translated works by the Latin and Greek writers Ovid
and Homer, respectively (Mason 4). At this same time, after being in Boston for about four years, she
began to take an interest in writing (Mason 4). Susanna supplied Phillis with paper and ink to enable
her to write and even allowed Phillis to ignore her household duties to write emdash;something that
was practically unheard of for a slave (Mason 5). However, Susanna was accommodating because she
wanted Phillis to pursue her religious education and believed that writing would enable her to do so.
Phillis fascination with writing grew, and as time passed, she became especially interested in authors
that shared her religious beliefs. Her favorite writer was Alexander Pope, who was also a Christian. He
was famous for his elegies, which usually had some uplifting conclusion, where hope and love and
faith usually triumph over death to honor

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Research Paper
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, widely regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of
Western music (Sadie , 1) was an Austrian composer born in Salzburg on January 27, 1756 to Leopold
Mozart and Anna Maria, née Pertl, the former of whom was an experienced music teacher and a minor
composer in his own right. Wolfgang Amadeus was the youngest of seven children, though only he
and his older sister also named Anna Maria, survived infancy. A child prodigy, Mozart was often
caught observing the keyboard lessons given to his sister, and by the age of three could be seen:
picking out thirds, which he was ever striking, and his pleasure showed that it sounded good.... In the
fourth year of his age his father, for a game as it were, began to teach him a few minuets and pieces at

The Importance Of Death In The Bible s Life
Samuel and Liza Hamilton are inching closer to death, as everyone does. Although in their cases it is
only beginning to show. To Liza it is as natural as reading the Bible, death is something that is the
inevitable. To Samuel however, dying is almost wrong to be any part of his life. In Samuel s life,
dying was almost illegal for anyone he has ever been impacted by. In Chapter 23, when his eldest
daughter Una dies, it is almost an awakening for Samuel. It is his first sign that death is soon going to
be knocking on his door. It is Liza who does not find as big of a worry in her daughter s death. Both of
them grieve but afterward, only Samuel is taken aback. Most reactions when a child dies before the

especially that of their father. Adam however, was never really a dark child, unless you recall his dark

Caleb s mother. There is also the possibility that that is the son of Charles because looking into his
childhood Charles did anything and everything for his father s approval even risking the life of his
elder brother. Charles and Cathy had one thing in common, they both loved the idea of chaos and
violence, with that in mind and recalling that they did spend an intimate night together once when
Cathy drugged Adam, it is more fact than fiction that Caleb is a different type of Trask boy and it will

Sleep And Memory Of Sleep Essay
Introduction There are a few factors that are essential for life such as breathing or eating, but one of
the most essential factor is sleep. Even though the amount of sleep people need differs from one
individual to another, the fact is that eventually everyone needs to sleep. People know the importance
of sleep, but due to the increased workload and the pressure of society people are getting less sleep. As
a result, there has been an increase interest on the effects lack of sleep has on the mind especially the
memory of a person. Many questions arose about the relationship between sleep and memory due to
the fact most high school and college students have become sleep deprived. For example, does more
sleep mean higher grades? There have been many experiments performed trying to find the correlation
between sleep and memory. One of these experiments has showed that different stages of sleep has
different effects on memory for instance, not only has sleep been seen to combine new memory with
old long term memories, but also helps stabilize memory (Born Rasch, 2013). Using the Memory
Interference Test (MIT), Amir conducted an experiment to further confirm the conclusion that the
sleep improves a person s memory. The experiment compared the amount of correctly remembered
pictures by a sample people who had eight hours of sleep compared to a sample with only four hours
of sleep. The hypothesis is that there is a correlation between the amount of sleep a person

What Is a Professional Learning Community
What is a Professional Learning Community?

Abstract
Throughout this paper you will be able to gain more knowledge on what a Professional Learning
Community (PLC) is. I will explore two different areas: general characteristics of PLCs and the big
ideas that are associated with them. I will refer to different types of students throughout this paper.
When I mention high achievers I will be referring to those are students whose test scores put them in
the top twenty five percent nationwide amongst their peers; when I mention low achievers I am
speaking of those students that perform lower than the median of their peers. PLC refers to

2. Create high performing teams. PLCs are built on a collaborative culture, where school leaders and
teachers work together to achieve their collective purpose of learning for all.
Within this big idea we, as teachers, develop norms, SMART goals and procedures for which the PLC
is to be run. By having a specific process that is followed during meeting times it keeps the focus of
the group on the learning of the child. When we explore the structure and process of an effective PLC
we one or more of the five characteristics: System Thinking, Personal Mastery, Team Learning,
Challenging Mental Needs, and Shared Vision. (Pearson Custom: Education, Executive Leadership in
the 21st Century MELS 601 p.25) Of these characteristics the most important one for creating high
performing teams is Team Learning. As I stated earlier, if we learn as a team then we will be more apt
to see growth and development in our students because we will then be on the same thinking path of
student achievement. 3. Assess effectiveness of all students learning at high levels based on results.
PLCs judge their effectiveness on outcomes related to the holistic development of their students.
Within PLCs the professional teaching team should be using relevant data as a means to improve what
is happening inside the classroom. If the team is indeed using the data that is

Christian Truths in the Screwtape Lettters by C.S. Lewis...
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a book of thirty one letters in which a retired, senior demon
named Screwtape coaches his newly educated nephew, Wormwood. Wormwood is quite troubled
when it comes to tempting his patient. Nevertheless, he need not fear because faithful uncle Screwtape
has offered his services. A unique character featured in the letters is, The Enemy. This character refers
to God, the natural enemy of Satan. Of course Satan is referred to as Our Lord. In the letters, and
Wormwood and Screwtape try their very best to please Satan and bring him glory. Although the book
is written from the demons perspective, Lewis naturally uses it to highlight important truths of the
Christian faith. The patient or the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
...Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring but still intending to do
our enemies will, looks round a universe from which every trace of him seems to have vanished, and
ask why he has been forsaken and still obeys (Lewis, 39). What truths are you looking at if you have
never come to know that truths of the Christian faith? Clearly the entire story s focal point is demonic,
literally. Joanie Riche writes, It has helped me gain an understanding of how he forces of darkness try
to undermine joy and truth (Riche). That is exactly what the dangerous duo is trying to prove. That
they can push this poor human to such limits that he/she will forget that God ever played a positive
factor in their lives. These are real things that happen to people. Once devout believers suffer a trial
then suddenly and all together, the mere thought of the gospel is ridiculous. It is a harrowing truth.
Many people are raised to be unbelievers. It does not matter to these devils, they are going to hell
either way. In contrast, the Enemy holds a prominent position in the novel whether evident to most or
not. No temptation has overcome you that is not common to man, God is faithful, and He will not let
you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape that
you may be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13). Screwtape often tells that the Enemy

Reoccurring Theme Of Death In Emily Dickinson s Poems
Emily Dickinson poems seem to have the same reoccurring theme, which takes on a negative
perspective on life; this is the theme of death. The theme of death is frequently used to express her
feelings throughout her life. Everyone has experienced the emotions that come with death, whether it
is a close family member, distant friends or even through storylines of movies. She uses the subject of
death to connect with the audience on an emotional level while also expressing her own feelings
through her poems. The theme of death is expressed in the majority of her poems. They share almost
the exact same idea of death such as, the act of grieving. Her poems might be similar but they all have
a different understanding and perspective of death whether it is positive or negative. The poem, I
heard a Fly Buzz when I died describes the scene and atmosphere of the moment when death comes.
Dickinson creates an image of someone lying on a bed with only being able to hear the sound of a fly.
She uses the fly buzz as a symbol of death and all the things associated with dying. This poem paints a
perfect picture of her idea of what happens before death, during death and after death. Dickinson uses
imagery by using descriptive language such as, the stillness in the room and air to portray what is it
like before death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

An Effective Compensation Structure Of Employees Essay
Overview Organizations spend a great deal of time and resources in developing an effective
compensation structure one that is lawful, aligns with the strategy and objectives of the business itself,
is externally competitive and can recruit and retain talented employees. However, not all positions will
fall into this meticulously composed pay structure. There are groups of employees who will fall
outside of the scale used for everyone else, with compensation packages seemingly at odds with what
everyone else receives (Milkovich, Newman, Gerhart, 2016, p. 502). Executives are one such group of
employees specifically senior level executives, or CEOs. The computation of compensation CEOs
receive does not follow the same process as that of other positions. As such, the compensation
practices for senior level executives have come under fire (Milkovich, et al., p. 504). There are many
opponents to current executive compensation levels in our economy, many of whom cite the
multimillion dollar total compensation received by some Fortune 500 executives compared to average
worker pay levels (AFL CIO, 2014). However, there are also proponents of executive compensation
who believe that the inherent risk involved in these positions, in addition to market variables and job
duties and responsibilities warrant the, sometimes confounding, compensation figures (Kaplan, 2008).
This paper sets out to examine these arguments to determine if CEOs are over compensated in our
economy.

It is claimed to be a process that creates benefits by facilitating a change in customer, a change in their

important as they are the source of competitive advantage for many service businesses. Both the
technical and soft skills of service employees are instrumental in delivering such intangible benefits
through increasingly customized and complex services. However, such strategies may not be
sustainable as the demand for highly skilled service employees is threatening to outstrip the supply. A

Enthroned Madrandonna And Child With Saints Summary
Piero della Francesca s art has always been intriguing to the eyes of the lookers, analysers, every art
pieces containing lots of symbolism and meanings. The Altarpiece Madonna and child with Saints
adored by Frederico da Montefeltro was one of the work. Piero della Francesca was born in 1412 and
was involved in the Early Renaissance movement. His style involved the use of humanism, geometric
forms and use of perspective to create art. From what I saw in the piece Enthroned Madonna and
Child with Saints, the first thing I saw was a group of people surrounding a woman with a baby. The
atmosphere of the piece seems to be solemn and grief even though the painting was painted in bright
colours. It was the facial expressions of the people that depict that it may not be a joyous event. The
knight was at the forefront of the painting and almost seems to be bigger than anyone else, it may
suggest that he s important in the piece. Piero also used linear perspective in the altarpiece, creating a
sense of depth and the vanishing point at around Mary s eyes. With the use of geometry, Piero
managed to create the background architecture with such clarity which a lot of artists at that time
couldn t achieve. Into further observation, instead of thinking that the baby was bleeding, he was
wearing a red necklace. The red colour can be represented as blood pouring out of the baby, a symbol
of life and death. From the way the baby was positioned, it may be assumed that the baby is either

Speech On Smoking
A Breath of Fresh Air
Even after people know what these substances can and will do to their body, people keep taking it and
in the process, they slowly destroy their bodies every day just so they can feel good for some number
of hours. Some of those people get so addicted they lose jobs, friends, homes and even family
smoking these toxic chemicals. The smoke you put in your lungs starts to break down tissues there
and other body parts and can lead to serious or even fatal diseases. I could go all eternity without ever
smoking or doing any drugs of any kind and never be bothered about it.
Even teens who get dared to smoke at a party can really destroy their bodies. The harmful toxins break
down their bodies and causes diseases for them later in their life. Smoking causes 90% of deaths from
lung cancer, around 80% of deaths from COPD, and around 17% deaths from heart disease. Sadly,
most people don t realize the damage just one cigaret can have on your body. Every drag you take on
the cigaret raises you blood pressure and heart rate. Teenagers that smoke at the age of 15 are three
times more likely to die from cancer than someone who starts smoking in their mid 20s. For this
reason, smoking as a teen can permanently damage your body and smoking can even kill young adults
or give them intense diseases later on in their life.
If you have ever seen a long term smoker before and after their years of smoking, you ve seen first
hand the damage they do to the outside of

Zayed- Man Who Built A Nation
As a matter of fact, I have chosen a book titled Zayed Man Who Built A Nation . because I am
attracted by its title. The book that includes 734 pages, covered all details about the life of late Sheikh
Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. I always influenced by the president of Emirates Arab behavior the
founding father of the EAU, and those who have escorted him throughout his long life. The book
comprises the challenges that Sheikh Zayed confronted since 1971 until his death in 2004. My interest
is to illustrate the exclusive accomplishments of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan a Bedouin who
lived in the desert and a leader of his people and for the good of the world. The book of Zayed: Man
Who Built a Nation was written by Graeme H. Wilson. (2013).
In the first place, the book mentioned that Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was born in 1912 on
the poor isolated and largely ignored Trucial Coast. He was the youngest of the four sons, his father.
As a member of the ruling class, his childhood could be considered to be relatively privileged, but it
was also one scarred by the difficulties of the era. The tragic death of his father, regional economic
collapse and difficult political conditions meant that it was a hard, uncertain life. Sheikh Zayed
emerged through this with a reputation as a leader of note. While his brother, Sheikh Shakhbout, was
Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed served as the Wali of Al Ain, a period in which he revived the
economy of the area and became famous

The Practicability Of Consumption Led Economy
The Practicability of Consumption Led Economy Based on some basic statistics, such as per capita
GDP and the growth rate of the urban population, Fukumoto and Muto focus on the likelihood that
present day China is roughly at the same stage of economic development as Japan during or prior to
the early 1970 s. In the 1970 s, Japan transformed its economic growth model from investment led to
one led in a more balanced manner through investment, consumption, and exports. Thanks to the
transformation, Japan was able to maintain its stable economic growth after the high growth era of the
1980 s. Thus, in order to duplicate the success of Japan in maintaining high economic growth,
Fukumoto and Muto highlight the importance for China to transform from an investment led to a
consumption led economy. This section focuses on analyzing the sustainability of consumption and
explaining why consumption is able to maintain China s economy in the long run. Lardy points out
that since the beginning of 1990 s, the consumption growth, as a source of economic growth, has
diminished substantially compared with other sources, such as investment and exports. Specifically,
household consumption dropped from slightly more than half of GDP in the 1980 s to an average of
46 percent in the 1990 s. After 2000, household consumption kept decreasing. By 2005, it only
accounted for 38 percent of GDP, the lowest share of any major economy in the world. From the
beginning of the decade until the global

Heart Of Darkness Critical Analysis
The Heart of Darkness, written by Joseph Conrad , is a very interesting and intriguing novel . It was
originally published in 1899 . A great deal of the criticisms focused on racial tension and imperialism,
which were very important topics that stuck out in reading the Heart of Darkness . Many literary
criticisms praise the novel and the entertainment it brings to the audience . Although the Heart of
Darkness receives a lot of praise, many critics negatively criticize the novel for various reasons .
Joseph Conrad was huge on attacking the topic of racism , which was a problem associated with this
novel during this time period . Shockingly, racism was mostly looked over by other critics. This was
due to how racism was interpreted and defined as in 1902 . The meaning of racism has changed over
time . During this time period, racism, the word itself, wasn t in existence . However, that does not
mean that racism didn t occur during that time . In fact , racial tensions were so common that the
actual word racism wasn t used because it wasn t necessary. Chinua Achebe writes a strong critique
explaining his opposing thoughts against the Heart of Darkness and proving that point. Achebe
believes that Joseph Conrad was in fact a racist, and he also believes that a novel that depersonalizes
the human race shouldn t even be in the running to be called a great novel . He states that the simple
truth should not be overlooked in other criticisms. Achebe explains

Questions On English And Russian
In this essay, I will be discussing my experiences with modals in English and Russian. The purpose of
my project is to investigate the differences in the usage and meanings of modals between the two
languages. My focus will be on the modal, must, and what contexts it is mainly used for. I will start by
discussing what was particularly challenging about this project. Modals are a highly complex area of
grammar both in English and Russian. Several of the texts I have consulted for my project remark on
the difficulty of teaching and learning modals. In English, there is a certain level of ambiguity when it
comes to the meanings of modals. Depending on what context they are used in, modals can mean
several different things and fall into two main categories: epistemic of deontic (Haan, 1995). The
modal I am focusing on, must or dolžen, corresponds semantically only to the root or fictive modals in
English. This fact is the very core of great pedagogical difficulty in teaching these Russian modal
auxiliaries to English speaking students (Croft, 1975). Initially, it was challenging even finding
articles about Russian modals. The articles I discovered did not have a comprehensive list of Russian
modals which made it more difficult to understand. This area of grammar is widely studied in English,
but not so in Russian. Corpus investigations of modality in other languages is lagging behind, (Haan,
1995) which is why it was difficult to find a Russian corpus to analyze for

alternatives which could have been done to ease such economic downturn will be carefully examined.

Cyprus became the first ever Eurozone country to apply capital controls with limits on credit card
transactions, daily cash withdrawals, foreign money transfers and cashing cheques. This is a clear
indication of the severity of the situation and, effectively, at least temporarily devalues Euros located
in Cyprus as they are now less easy to transfer.
More than a thousand bank employees marched in the capital Nicosia on Saturday, angry that their
jobs could be lost in the forced restructure of the island s economy and that the government had
proposed to nationalise pensions in order to fund the bailout. That option was later rejected.
Some protests to express Cypriots indignation happened on the street, while parliament voted
overwhelmingly to reject the tax on bank accounts. Furthermore, Banks have been closed for more
than a week, to prevent depositors moving their money off the island, which would have caused the
banks to collapse and made the entire situation worse. However, ATMs were still opened, and they

the Indian market and its culture, Silvio was aware that it would not be an easy task for their Indian

Globalization Is A Kind Of Phenomenon Of Human Social...
Nowadays, globalization is a kind of phenomenon of human social development process. It enhances
global connections and makes different culture spread from all over the world. Globalization is also an
exchange of world view, products, concepts and other cultural elements, and it brings a process of
international integration. As we know, there are more and more worldwide brands appear in the world,
such as Starbucks. Many eastern people begin to accept coffee in their life even though Starbucks is a
western brand, so globalization makes a connection between every countries and influence each
others. However, some people with traditional ideas may think that globalization is a bad thing to
protect national culture, and it can lead to cultural conflict. I believe that globalization promotes a
better development and transmits more advanced knowledge by cooperation between every individual
countries all over the world. The spread of culture becomes important in the world because every
country has their different kinds of culture, and it lets people know more cultures from other countries.
Globalization is a good way to promote cultural communication and spread because it makes a

Speech On Perseverance
There I was, dead tired on the final play of my football game. As they snapped the ball from the two
yard line, they ran it to the left. Now, I could have let the situation take over and not make my tired
body make the tackle and let them score the winning touchdown, but instead I persevered in the face
of a tired and stiff body and made the game saving touchdown. If one always keeps on keeping on, no
matter the situation, is perseverance. A person needs to be motivated, have optimism, and realizing
and using the advantages of perseverance to one s advantage if they want to have grit and
perseverance, which is to never quit even with difficulties.
To begin with, to have perseverance, one must always keep going forward, regardless of the situation.
There are many factors in keeping this grit, one of them being to always be motivated. A quote that
explains this is ... we conquer by continuing. (Smith 2017.) This quote helps prove the idea of
motivation by basically saying one cannot fail if they don t stop trying, which is motivation. If one
always keeps trying, they can never fail. More evidence to support this comes from The Iceberg
Illusion, where it says that you need failure, sacrifice, and disappointment in order to reach the level of
success they want. It takes much motivation to overcome failure, sacrifice, and disappointment in one
s life. This idea of motivation can be related back to me, because I have needed to stay motivated to

Homelessness And The Homeless Youth
Homelessness is a major problem in the United States. An incredibly vulnerable group is the homeless
youth due to their young age and lack of education. According to Edidin, Ganim, Hunter, Karnik
(2012) on any particular night in the United States there are ~2 million homeless youth living on the
streets, in shelters, or in other temporary accommodation. Youth become homeless for multiple
reasons whether it be because they have aged out of foster care, ran from home, were kicked out of
their home, or because they have become homeless along with their family members. Within the
umbrella categorization of homeless youth there are high at risk subgroups, common misconceptions,
and a serious concern of lack of support and medical services. Homeless youth face an abundance of
challenges, especially if they are on their own, such as finding food, shelter, income, and potential
medical expenses. Some youth experience additional hardship by facing the effects of abuse they
endured at their previous place of residence. According to the National Conference of State
Legislators (2013) 46 percent of runaway and homeless youth reported physical abuse, 38 percent
reported emotional abuse, and 17 percent reported being forced into unwanted sexual activity by a
family or household member. Therefore, the chances of emotional vulnerability are high. A common
misconception of homeless youth is that even if they do become homeless they are not homeless for

Physics Of Baseball Essay
Physics is used all the time in our daily lives. It is used in almost everything that we do for example,
playing basketball, walking, running, driving and of course our subject of the day is physics behind

ball, and batting. Batting is one of the main things in baseball that use a lot of physics because it is
important that you know how hard , and where to swing in order to get the ball to where you want it to

The more force you apply the faster the ball goes and the harder it is for the batter to see the ball and
actually be able to hit it. Baseball wasn t always a sport people would play the way they do noe. Unil
this man named Alexander Cartwright gave it a name and a set of rules then it finally became a sport
and now you are able to see it on TV played by professional athletes or as people call them baseball
players . The way it is played is that you need a certain amount of people in the team which is 9
players or maybe a little extra incase one o them get hurt and need another to go in. There are exactly
four bases which are you ( home base, first base, second base, and your third base). Each base must be
ninety feet away from each other because you must run a certain distance to get to then and it would
be unfair is one was further than the other. There is also a base in the center of the field which is where
the pitcher pitches to the batter in home base. There are lines marked all around the field where it
indicates that the balls that cross the line is considered a foul ball and each line is about ninety degrees
being the available space in baseball., and about forty five from the left to right when standing in
second base. This sport caught

Kay Redfield Jamson Research Paper
What does it mean to have a mental illness? Not many people think about this question because we
don t realize how many people are affected by mental illness each day. Having a mental illness means
that there is something going on that affects a person s thinking, feelings, mood, etc. Often times when
people disclose that they have a mental illness, they are judged. The fear of being judged definitely
holds some people back from speaking about their condition. It might even make people go into denial
about even having a mental illness. Kay Redfield Jamison once struggled with accepting the fact that
she was suffering from manic depressive illness despite the fact that she was trained to make
diagnoses on cases just like hers. From a young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She knew that something was wrong when she would go through the dark moods and the highs but
didn t want to accept the fact that it could be because of a mental illness. Also there came a time where
she went almost a year without going through her mood swings, so this pushed the thoughts of mental
illness right out of her head. When she finally sought out for help, she was put on lithium to try and
treat her disorder. Although the lithium helped her, taking the medicine didn t last long; she refused to
continue taking it because she thought she would be okay without it. Many people that experience
manic depressive illness go through the same thing with taking medication. Some authors have noted
that motivation for adherence in bipolar disorder may be diminished by the hedonic pleasure
associated with some manic episodes (e.g., Cochrane, 1982). (Greenhouse, 2000) She never
questioned herself because she didn t want there to be something wrong with her and she knew telling
people would be hard. Not many people knew about her illness after she came to realization because
she was afraid of what they would

The Impacts Of Vastuvidya On The Living Environment
Impacts of Vastuvidya on preservation of living environments
Vaastu is the science of direction that combines all the five elements of nature and balances them with
man and materials. Earth, water, fire, air and space are the five main elements of human living. Vastu
principles are based on the analysis of these five sources of energy and their correct utilization.
Vastuvidya is one of the teachings from the ancient Indian civilization. It is a discipline that developed
over the years based on the traditional knowledge gained from studying the nature. They also had
knowledge about the gravitational field, magnetic field, the position of the earth, velocity of the winds,

Some architects argue that vastu vidya is about flexible design guidelines for space, sunlight, flow and
function. While others say it is mere superstition.
However in Sri Lanka, influence of customs and traditions is an essential part of the social life,
business, politics, and any other important activity, irrespective of social standing, education or wealth
and thus despite the impacts and influences of foreign activities, both rural and urban populations
remain tied up with traditions.
There are eight directions in Vastuvidya. These directions are the most important factor in Vastuvidya.
When building a house we have to consider about various part of our house and the direction it is
situated. The importance of orientation of a building is not only for saving energy but also to have a
better healthy house design, which not only gives comfortable living but also gives good health,
prosperity and wealth to the house owners, occupiers and these families.
While selecting a place to build the building in the land, there are two ways. One is Pada Bedima and
the other is Bhumi Chakra. In Pada Bedeema, the site is divided by nine parallel lines and another nine

Desert Shield / Desert Storm George H. Bush was just elected in to office as 41st President of the
United States. He faced the fall of the Soviet Union and the Cold War after 40 years and to include the
tear down of the Berlin Wall. Ordered the invasion of Panama in December of 1989, to capture and

One of the greatest test for President Bush, came when the Iraq Armies invaded Kuwait in August of
1990. Then Iraqi President, Saddam Hussein did not stop in Kuwait, he threatened to continue into
Saudi Arabia. President Bush then called on the United Nations for backing. With the support of the
people and Congress, Bush was given the approval to send 425,000 US troops to include the support
of 118,000 troops from several allied nations to liberate Kuwait and defend Saudi Arabia from being
invaded. The number of coalition forces eventually grew to nearly 750,000 troops Commanded by
General Schwarzkopf.
The President Bush called on General Herbert Norman Schwarzkopf Jr. who at the time was the

Athanasius On The Incarnation
Athanasius On the Incarnation In the year 325 A.D., the Council of Nicaea met and addressed the
question of who Christ is. The council revolved around a belief known as Arianism, which was started
by a priest named Arius. Arius denied that Jesus is divine. He claimed that Jesus Christ and the Holy
Spirit are nothing more than God s creatures. The Council of Nicaea, however, rejected Arianism and
affirmed that Jesus was not created like all other things were. They said that Jesus and God share the
same divine substance, which means that Jesus is one with God the Father. Essentially, Jesus is God.
Saint Athanasius, who was a bishop of Alexandria at the time of the Nicene council, shared a similar
theology to that set out in the council. Athanasius ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He made it his mission to conquer death and bring back all those who had been led astray. Athanasius
refers to a verse from the gospel of Luke to show that scripture tells the story of God s plan. I came to
seek and to save which was lost. (Luke 19:10) An interesting thing that Athanasius does in his writings
is that he explains things by raising questions that one might ask and providing his answers for them.
He answers the questions through logic of the faith. When discussing what God did to save the world,
he raises the question: Since, then, human beings had become so irrational and demonic deceit was
thus overshadowing every place and hiding the knowledge of the true God, what was God to do? (62).
God knew what he had to do to undo all the corruption that existed among humans and that was to
become human himself. Athanasius tells us that God sojourned as a human being, taking to himself a
body like theirs, (64). Jesus is the Word that God sent and the Word was God becoming man, which
means that the Word of God is God himself. God worked through his son Jesus to make himself
present to the people. Athanasius again turns to scripture to show that Jesus works were all part of God
s plan to save humanity. If I do not do the works of my Father, do not believe me; but if I do, even if
you don t believe me, believe my works, that you might know and understand that the Father is in me
and I am in

Essay on The Marxist Ideal Cannot Work
The Marxist ideal, a highly appealing, almost Utopian
society, is impossible to achieve due to the fact that it
demands that the human mind be almost without flaws. It
asks of society and its members to be absolutely without
ranks, without greed or leadership. This has been clearly
impossible for society. Each step to achieving a communist
establishment has been, continues to be, and will be, in
actuality, a step towards the totalitarian societies of past
and current so called communist countries. Communism
became popular solely in under developed countries,
contrary to Marx s beliefs as to what should happen, and
its rise in these countries was the beginning of its fall. Marx
believed that the only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the formation of this
Communist government began the downfall of Marx s
Ideal. Lenin had established a so called Marxist
government, but he felt that Russia was not yet ready for
the Marxist idea of Communism. He believed that the
country first had to be industrialized. That had been one of
Marx s stipulations. Secondly, Lenin felt that the new ruling
class, the proletariat, was not yet ready for ruling, so he
took up the position. That is where the chief problem lies,
in the implementation of the Marxist Ideal. From the very
beginning, even prior to the foretold revolution, the ideal is
fitted to the leaders viewpoints, which is completely
opposite to what Marx had envisioned. The problem with
capitalism, as Marx saw it, was that leaders were taking the
lives and futures of others in their hands and using them to
their advantage and this was forever escalating. As Leninist
Russia progressed, Lenin guaranteed that people did not
gain too much freedom and implemented such forces as the
secret police and one party rule. Thus, through initial
adaptations of the system as envisioned by its creator, the
distortion of the ideal is present even in its beginnings.
Following the first step towards communism is the
revolution that Marx predicted would ultimately occur.
However, through a revolution, especially a violent one that
Marx deemed would

  • 2. Digital Literacy And The Public Education Discussion Post #4 How important is digital literacy considered to be in our current public education? How important do you think digital literacy is? The American Library Association defines digital literacy as the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both cognitive and technical skills. This definition is important to the discussion of the digital divide, defined by Morse (2004) as inequitable use of computer technology (p. 268). We learned from our readings that the divide between lower SES students and their wealthier counterparts in terms of first, access to technology (hardware, software, broadband Internet) and second, what Banister and Fischer (2010) called the opportunity for use (p. 3). With increased government funding over the past two decades, schools have seen access to technology improve. Warschauer and Matuchniak (2011) explained the significance of the federal government s e Rate program, which has provided a whopping $2 billion per year for broadband and Internet access for schools (p. 188). Yet the softer costs, such as technical support staff, and which are not funded by the federal government mean that even when the infrastructure and actual hardware and software are present, teachers and students may be unable to access them. The interesting divide is also largely based on SocioEconomic Status: the opportunity for use of technology. The expectations for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Italian Renaissance s Life And Life Of Filippo... Filippo Brunelleschi The Italian Renaissance, ranging between the 1400 s 1600 s, was a time that continued classicism in culture, art, and architecture. Architecture in particular applied classical vocabulary and forms to contemporary building functions and types. Many well known individuals helped shape this period of time, Brunelleschi included. Not much is known about Filippo Brunelleschi s early life. He was born 1377, the second son of Ser Brunellesco Di Lippo Lapi, in Florence, Italy. While growing up in a political household, due to his father holding a distinct notary position, expectations were held high for him to follow the same path as his father. He was even given a formal education fit for that lifestyle. Though going against expectations, Brunelleschi followed in his brother s footsteps to become a goldsmith and joined the Silk Merchants guild. It took him a total of six years to be awarded the title of master. He gained experience not only as a goldsmith but also in sculpting and mechanics. In 1401, a contested sponsored by the Wool manufacturers Guild was publicly announced. It called for new bronze panels on the Baptistery doors. Seven candidates entered the competition but only Filippo Brunelleschi and Lorenzo Ghiberti succeeded in becoming finalists. Everyone was given the same material and subject, the Sacrifice of Isaac, but their final piece couldn t have been any more different. Brunelleschi s design featured a more humanistic approach with drama ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. New England Middle And Southern Colonies During the tobacco boom of the 1620s, two English colonies located along Chesapeake Bay, Maryland and Virginia, were the first to prosper in North America. From 1624 to 1752, thirteen English colonies emerged along the Eastern coast of North America, with a multitude of diversities among them that transformed the map of the English New World. Colonial life within these three regions: New England, middle, and southern colonies was diverse because of the varying geography, economy, and society the colonists had constructed. To begin with, the English colonies were awfully diverse based on the environment that they were founded on. Each region consisted of different growing seasons, agriculture, and climates. Simultaneously, the New England colonies (New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut) were founded upon hilly and mountainous terrain that consisted of many rivers, rocky soil, and the coldest climate of all three regions. The long, harsh winters meant for the shortest growing season, leading the New England colonists to discover new ways of making income. In these northern colonies, fish, timber, and furs were their resources. Meanwhile in the middle colonies (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware), flat land, rich soil, , navigable waters and coastal plains that stretched as far as the Appalachian foothills led to the Pennsylvania colony being the first to prosper in North America for England. Family farmers had a rich, level growing land as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Shakespeare And The World Of Hamlet The world of Hamlet and the world of its playwright, William Shakespeare, are similar in many aspects such as politics and the way women are treated. Another similarity of both worlds is the education system. It is known that Prince Hamlet attends the University of Wittenberg as King Cladius and Queen Gertrude are against Hamlet s return to Wittenberg, stating that [i]t is most retrograde to [their] desire (Shakespeare I.ii.114). The fact that Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, attends university shows that the world of Hamlet, without a doubt, resembles Shakespeare s world. • 6. Smoking Vs Grilling Research If you want to become a grilling expert, it is important to learn about the two main ways to cook over an open flame: smoking and grilling. What are their main differences? Is the flavor from one different from the flavor from the other? We will consider these questions and more as we look at smoking vs. grilling. What is the difference between smoking and grilling? Smoking is an ancient method of preserving meats using smoke, indirect heat and low cooking temperatures. The original reason for using this method had more to do with preserving the meat than with flavor. These days, it is used mostly for the flavor and for making meat tender by breaking down the connective tissue in it. Properly smoked meats acquire a smoke ring. The flavor of grilled meat versus the flavor slow smoked meat is the basis of yet another big culinary debate. Many chefs believe that the flavor of slow smoked meat is superior to that of grilled meat; however, it is possible to have best of both worlds with the use of wood chips or wood chunks. The ideal wood for smoking is thought to come from certain species of fruit or nut trees. Apple, peach and pecan woods are all thought to be excellent for slow smoking meats. Can you get a smoky flavor from grilling? Yes, you can. One of the easiest ways to do this with a charcoal grilling is to add wood chips. Simply toss a handful of chips onto your smoldering coals to create smoke that will flavor your meat. You can also mix chunks of wood in with the coals to smoke meat for longer ... The Neolithic and Industrial Revolutions The two changes in the use of the earth s resources that had the greatest effect on the world population were the Neolithic and the industrial revolutions. Biogeochemical cycles In the carbon cycle, the key events are the complementary reactions of respiration and photosynthesis. Respiration takes carbohydrates and oxygen and combines them to produce carbon dioxide, water, and energy. Photosynthesis (6CO + 12H O + Light Energy C H O + 6O +6H O) takes carbon dioxide and water and produces carbohydrates and oxygen. The outputs of respiration are the inputs of photosynthesis, and the outputs of photosynthesis are the inputs of respiration. The reactions are also complementary in the way they deal with energy. Photosynthesis takes energy from the sun and stores it in the carbon carbon bonds of carbohydrates; respiration releases that energy. Both plants and animals carry on respiration, but only plants and other producers can carry on photosynthesis. The chief reservoirs for carbon dioxide are in the oceans and in rock. Carbon dioxide dissolves readily in water. Once there, it may precipitate as a solid rock known as calcium carbonate. Corals and algae encourage this reaction and build up limestone reefs in the process. On land and in the water, plants take up carbon dioxide and convert it into carbohydrates through photosynthesis. This carbon in the plants now has 3 possible endings. It can be returned to the atmosphere by the plant through respiration; it can be eaten by an animal, or it can be present in the plant when the plant dies. Animals obtain all their carbon in their food, and, thus, all carbon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This research is focused to define an Islamic way of warfare based on these fundamental sources, with a view to identifying whether Al Qaeda is truly Islamic or not. This thesis identifies that Islam does not dictate minor tactical matters of warfare, rather focuses its guidance on warfare in two broad categories: the just cause for waging war, and limited restrictions on conduct during the war. ... Even though the amount of sleep people need differs from one individual to another, the fact is that eventually everyone needs to sleep. People know the importance of sleep, but due to the increased workload and the pressure of society people are getting less sleep. As a result, there has been an increase interest on the effects lack of sleep has on the mind especially the memory of a person. Many questions arose about the relationship between sleep and memory due to the fact most high school and college students have become sleep deprived. For example, does more sleep mean higher grades? There have been many experiments performed trying to find the correlation between sleep and memory. One of these experiments has showed that different stages of sleep has different effects on memory for instance, not only has sleep been seen to combine new memory with old long term memories, but also helps stabilize memory (Born Rasch, 2013). No temptation has overcome you that is not common to man, God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape that you may be able to endure it. • 26. Reoccurring Theme Of Death In Emily Dickinson s Poems Emily Dickinson poems seem to have the same reoccurring theme, which takes on a negative perspective on life; this is the theme of death. The theme of death is frequently used to express her feelings throughout her life. Everyone has experienced the emotions that come with death, whether it is a close family member, distant friends or even through storylines of movies. She uses the subject of death to connect with the audience on an emotional level while also expressing her own feelings through her poems. The theme of death is expressed in the majority of her poems. They share almost the exact same idea of death such as, the act of grieving. Her poems might be similar but they all have a different understanding and perspective of death whether it is positive or negative. The poem, I heard a Fly Buzz when I died describes the scene and atmosphere of the moment when death comes. Dickinson creates an image of someone lying on a bed with only being able to hear the sound of a fly. She uses the fly buzz as a symbol of death and all the things associated with dying. This poem paints a perfect picture of her idea of what happens before death, during death and after death. Dickinson uses imagery by using descriptive language such as, the stillness in the room and air to portray what is it like before death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 27. An Effective Compensation Structure Of Employees Essay Overview Organizations spend a great deal of time and resources in developing an effective compensation structure one that is lawful, aligns with the strategy and objectives of the business itself, is externally competitive and can recruit and retain talented employees. However, not all positions will fall into this meticulously composed pay structure. There are groups of employees who will fall outside of the scale used for everyone else, with compensation packages seemingly at odds with what everyone else receives (Milkovich, Newman, Gerhart, 2016, p. 502). Executives are one such group of employees specifically senior level executives, or CEOs. The computation of compensation CEOs receive does not follow the same process as that of other positions. As such, the compensation practices for senior level executives have come under fire (Milkovich, et al., p. 504). There are many opponents to current executive compensation levels in our economy, many of whom cite the multimillion dollar total compensation received by some Fortune 500 executives compared to average worker pay levels (AFL CIO, 2014). However, there are also proponents of executive compensation who believe that the inherent risk involved in these positions, in addition to market variables and job duties and responsibilities warrant the, sometimes confounding, compensation figures (Kaplan, 2008). This paper sets out to examine these arguments to determine if CEOs are over compensated in our economy. Research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is claimed to be a process that creates benefits by facilitating a change in customer, a change in their physical possession, or a change in their intangible assets. Intangible benefits are becoming more important as they are the source of competitive advantage for many service businesses. Both the technical and soft skills of service employees are instrumental in delivering such intangible benefits through increasingly customized and complex services. However, such strategies may not be sustainable as the demand for highly skilled service employees is threatening to outstrip the supply. A service business is the one where the perceived value of offering is determined more in terms of services rendered than the actual product offered. The growth and development of services industry in India has been immense and has largely dominated the traditional primary and secondary industries. Enthroned Madrandonna And Child With Saints Summary Piero della Francesca s art has always been intriguing to the eyes of the lookers, analysers, every art pieces containing lots of symbolism and meanings. The Altarpiece Madonna and child with Saints adored by Frederico da Montefeltro was one of the work. Piero della Francesca was born in 1412 and was involved in the Early Renaissance movement. His style involved the use of humanism, geometric forms and use of perspective to create art. From what I saw in the piece Enthroned Madonna and Child with Saints, the first thing I saw was a group of people surrounding a woman with a baby. The atmosphere of the piece seems to be solemn and grief even though the painting was painted in bright colours. It was the facial expressions of the people that depict that it may not be a joyous event. The knight was at the forefront of the painting and almost seems to be bigger than anyone else, it may suggest that he s important in the piece. Piero also used linear perspective in the altarpiece, creating a sense of depth and the vanishing point at around Mary s eyes. With the use of geometry, Piero managed to create the background architecture with such clarity which a lot of artists at that time couldn t achieve. Into further observation, instead of thinking that the baby was bleeding, he was wearing a red necklace. The red colour can be represented as blood pouring out of the baby, a symbol of life and death. From the way the baby was positioned, it may be assumed that the baby is either ... The smoke you put in your lungs starts to break down tissues there and other body parts and can lead to serious or even fatal diseases. I could go all eternity without ever smoking or doing any drugs of any kind and never be bothered about it. Even teens who get dared to smoke at a party can really destroy their bodies. The harmful toxins break down their bodies and causes diseases for them later in their life. Smoking causes 90% of deaths from lung cancer, around 80% of deaths from COPD, and around 17% deaths from heart disease. Sadly, most people don t realize the damage just one cigaret can have on your body. Every drag you take on the cigaret raises you blood pressure and heart rate. Teenagers that smoke at the age of 15 are three times more likely to die from cancer than someone who starts smoking in their mid 20s. For this reason, smoking as a teen can permanently damage your body and smoking can even kill young adults or give them intense diseases later on in their life. I always influenced by the president of Emirates Arab behavior the founding father of the EAU, and those who have escorted him throughout his long life. The book comprises the challenges that Sheikh Zayed confronted since 1971 until his death in 2004. My interest is to illustrate the exclusive accomplishments of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan a Bedouin who lived in the desert and a leader of his people and for the good of the world. The book of Zayed: Man Who Built a Nation was written by Graeme H. Wilson. (2013). In the first place, the book mentioned that Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was born in 1912 on the poor isolated and largely ignored Trucial Coast. He was the youngest of the four sons, his father. As a member of the ruling class, his childhood could be considered to be relatively privileged, but it was also one scarred by the difficulties of the era. The tragic death of his father, regional economic collapse and difficult political conditions meant that it was a hard, uncertain life. The Practicability Of Consumption Led Economy The Practicability of Consumption Led Economy Based on some basic statistics, such as per capita GDP and the growth rate of the urban population, Fukumoto and Muto focus on the likelihood that present day China is roughly at the same stage of economic development as Japan during or prior to the early 1970 s. In the 1970 s, Japan transformed its economic growth model from investment led to one led in a more balanced manner through investment, consumption, and exports. Thanks to the transformation, Japan was able to maintain its stable economic growth after the high growth era of the 1980 s. Thus, in order to duplicate the success of Japan in maintaining high economic growth, Fukumoto and Muto highlight the importance for China to transform from an investment led to a consumption led economy. This section focuses on analyzing the sustainability of consumption and explaining why consumption is able to maintain China s economy in the long run. Lardy points out that since the beginning of 1990 s, the consumption growth, as a source of economic growth, has diminished substantially compared with other sources, such as investment and exports. Specifically, household consumption dropped from slightly more than half of GDP in the 1980 s to an average of 46 percent in the 1990 s. After 2000, household consumption kept decreasing. By 2005, it only accounted for 38 percent of GDP, the lowest share of any major economy in the world. From the beginning of the decade until the global ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A great deal of the criticisms focused on racial tension and imperialism, which were very important topics that stuck out in reading the Heart of Darkness . Many literary criticisms praise the novel and the entertainment it brings to the audience . Although the Heart of Darkness receives a lot of praise, many critics negatively criticize the novel for various reasons . Joseph Conrad was huge on attacking the topic of racism , which was a problem associated with this novel during this time period . Shockingly, racism was mostly looked over by other critics. This was due to how racism was interpreted and defined as in 1902 . The meaning of racism has changed over time . During this time period, racism, the word itself, wasn t in existence . However, that does not mean that racism didn t occur during that time . In fact , racial tensions were so common that the actual word racism wasn t used because it wasn t necessary. Chinua Achebe writes a strong critique explaining his opposing thoughts against the Heart of Darkness and proving that point. Achebe believes that Joseph Conrad was in fact a racist, and he also believes that a novel that depersonalizes the human race shouldn t even be in the running to be called a great novel . • 35. Questions On English And Russian In this essay, I will be discussing my experiences with modals in English and Russian. The purpose of my project is to investigate the differences in the usage and meanings of modals between the two languages. My focus will be on the modal, must, and what contexts it is mainly used for. I will start by discussing what was particularly challenging about this project. Modals are a highly complex area of grammar both in English and Russian. Several of the texts I have consulted for my project remark on the difficulty of teaching and learning modals. In English, there is a certain level of ambiguity when it comes to the meanings of modals. Depending on what context they are used in, modals can mean several different things and fall into two main categories: epistemic of deontic (Haan, 1995). The modal I am focusing on, must or dolžen, corresponds semantically only to the root or fictive modals in English. This fact is the very core of great pedagogical difficulty in teaching these Russian modal auxiliaries to English speaking students (Croft, 1975). Initially, it was challenging even finding articles about Russian modals. The articles I discovered did not have a comprehensive list of Russian modals which made it more difficult to understand. This area of grammar is widely studied in English, but not so in Russian. Corpus investigations of modality in other languages is lagging behind, (Haan, 1995) which is why it was difficult to find a Russian corpus to analyze for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Athanasius On The Incarnation Athanasius On the Incarnation In the year 325 A.D., the Council of Nicaea met and addressed the question of who Christ is. The council revolved around a belief known as Arianism, which was started by a priest named Arius. Arius denied that Jesus is divine. He claimed that Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are nothing more than God s creatures. The Council of Nicaea, however, rejected Arianism and affirmed that Jesus was not created like all other things were. They said that Jesus and God share the same divine substance, which means that Jesus is one with God the Father. Essentially, Jesus is God. Saint Athanasius, who was a bishop of Alexandria at the time of the Nicene council, shared a similar theology to that set out in the council. Athanasius ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He made it his mission to conquer death and bring back all those who had been led astray. Athanasius refers to a verse from the gospel of Luke to show that scripture tells the story of God s plan. I came to seek and to save which was lost. (Luke 19:10) An interesting thing that Athanasius does in his writings is that he explains things by raising questions that one might ask and providing his answers for them. He answers the questions through logic of the faith. When discussing what God did to save the world, he raises the question: Since, then, human beings had become so irrational and demonic deceit was thus overshadowing every place and hiding the knowledge of the true God, what was God to do? (62). God knew what he had to do to undo all the corruption that existed among humans and that was to become human himself. Athanasius tells us that God sojourned as a human being, taking to himself a body like theirs, (64). Jesus is the Word that God sent and the Word was God becoming man, which means that the Word of God is God himself. God worked through his son Jesus to make himself present to the people. Athanasius again turns to scripture to show that Jesus works were all part of God s plan to save humanity. If I do not do the works of my Father, do not believe me; but if I do, even if you don t believe me, believe my works, that you might know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in ... • 48. Essay on The Marxist Ideal Cannot Work The Marxist ideal, a highly appealing, almost Utopian society, is impossible to achieve due to the fact that it demands that the human mind be almost without flaws. It asks of society and its members to be absolutely without ranks, without greed or leadership. This has been clearly impossible for society. Each step to achieving a communist establishment has been, continues to be, and will be, in actuality, a step towards the totalitarian societies of past and current so called communist countries. Communism became popular solely in under developed countries, contrary to Marx s beliefs as to what should happen, and its rise in these countries was the beginning of its fall. Marx believed that the only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the formation of this Communist government began the downfall of Marx s Ideal. • 49. class, the proletariat, was not yet ready for ruling, so he took up the position. That is where the chief problem lies, in the implementation of the Marxist Ideal. From the very beginning, even prior to the foretold revolution, the ideal is fitted to the leaders viewpoints, which is completely opposite to what Marx had envisioned. The problem with capitalism, as Marx saw it, was that leaders were taking the lives and futures of others in their hands and using them to their advantage and this was forever escalating. As Leninist Russia progressed, Lenin guaranteed that people did not gain too much freedom and implemented such forces as the secret police and one party rule. Thus, through initial adaptations of the system as envisioned by its creator, the distortion of the ideal is present even in its beginnings. Following the first step towards communism is the revolution that Marx predicted would ultimately occur. However, through a revolution, especially a violent one that Marx deemed would ...
