Social Problem Of India Today Essay
India is a very fast developing country in the world, one of the fastest. India also has the fastest
growing economy in the world (Beck). But at the same time there are several problems yet
today in Modern India which is affecting the development and growth of the country. The social
problems in India today have their roots in the diversity of religion, language, and culture. There
were many people to have huge attachment to one s region, language, religion and when these
attachments grow to an crazy extreme level they create intolerance for other religions,
languages, problems are bound to rise. So many cases of tragedy such as peaceful protests, riots
and poverty has shaped the outcome of what India has become today. An eye for an eye makes
everybody blind summarizes Gandhi s view of violence. Gandhi did not believe in violence as a
technique of achieving his goal of an independent India. He taught non violent non effort to create
for the people of India. When Gandhi was arrested many times and put to prison, his followers
were tempted to fight back to British authorities. Gandhi fasted until he convinced his followers to
stop fighting so that he would eat again. After that Gandhi thought the British authorities would
free the indian people as they wanted to be. Gandhi was wrong. Brigadier General Dyer ordered
his soldiers to open fire open field of people. Killing thousands of women children and men. This
massacre took place in Bagh where they held their

Comparison Of Hashirama Senju And Uchiha
Before the time of Naruto, Two men known as Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha were going
to change the world... For the better or the worst. Hashirama was a very humble and kind person
and Madara was a cold and ruthless. They both had the same dream; create a sanctuary of peace
for their children instead of living in war. Their clans; Senju and Uchiha were in a constant war
between each other struggling for power and territory. They both trained in the arts of being
ninjas and they were seen as the strongest in the world. They both created harmony within their
clans as they were seen as the leaders and created an alliance. During their time of peace they

The Philip Defanco Show
For a week I chose to watch and compare The Rachel Maddow Show and The Philip DeFranco
Show. I had chosen to compare the two because they are both personality driven news shows,
with the similar format of one presenter and a skew towards a liberal political stance. These
similarities will allow me to more clearly see a difference in how I consume the content. The
format of the show hosted by Maddow, a cable news show on MSNBC, has remained for the most
part, static, it could have been produced 30 years ago to the same effect through television.
Whereas, DeFranco s show on YouTube would never have been able to exist in its capacity if it
were not for the internet. Clearly marking the distinction between old and new media to me.
I firstly noted that the news stories which were covering by the two sources were mainly different.
While DeFranco skewed more towards pop culture, Maddow was more focused on governmental
events. Both however, covered American politics and events. One intersecting story which occurred
during the week was that of Elizabeth Warren, the senator who was silenced during a debate on the
nomination of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
YouTube uses a similar model as television, advertisements, but in a completely different form.
Creators on YouTube are payed based on views, as the more people watch the content the more
advertisers are interested in investing, but this model is fluctuating and unreliable. To build a more
sustainable model, many creators turn to alternative forms of revenue. Philip DeFranco, for
example, has built a business model on selling merchandise, acquiring his own sponsors and
working with a larger multimedia company, Discovery Network. Therefore, in a sense new media
is still very much financially reliant on old media. Television shows such as The Rachel Maddow

Analysis Of The Independence Of Eddie Rose
Eddie Rose Analysis Paper The Independence of Eddie Rose starts in a house on Indian
reservation. The very first things we get see is the destructive house hold that Eddie Rose, his
mother Katherine Rose, and little sister Theia live in. It is early in the morning and Katherine has
just finished yelling and kicking out her boyfriend Lenny Sharb. After which Eddie is left alone
with his mother where they get into a bit of an argument and Katherine tries to kiss Eddie.
Katherine upset that Eddie did not want her goes to her room. Aunt Thelma comes over then we

Then Eddie offers her the ritual to do with him but she just laughs at him and says it is for girls.
The social climate in the play is very grim. No matter where you are in the play there are always
characters who are suffering. This may be understood as the people in the play are representing
the Indian Americans who lived on reservations all over America, and most of them went
through suffering. Another social climate is the desire to escape there current situation. Eddie
does not want to leave his sister alone, but he is tired of living on the reservation that he would
rather be dead. Aunt Thelma tells Eddie how life could have been better if she could have
escaped, and had a chance at an education. Mike dreams of leaving and being taken care of by his
aunt. Even Katherine dreams of leaving the reservation to find a better place for her kids. There
were many other social climates such as pain, depression, destructive habits, and lack of role
models. There are no real role models in this play that the kids can look up to. Even Aunt Thelma
has lost her child, so it is not the best example to live by. One of the biggest Cultural climates in the
play was alcoholism. Indian Americans are commonly known to have drinking problems, and in the
play there is no shortage of that. Katherine and Lenny both drink day and night, and then after

Israelites Rebellion Against God
In the midst of the Israelites forty year journey towards the Promise Land of Canaan, Moses
records the Israelites persistent complaining and rebellion against God. Numbers 21:4 9 first
mentions the complaint of the Israelites against God and Moses, questioning God s plan for them,
as they travel in the desert without food and water. We are disgusted with this wretched food, they
say. This wretched food refers to the manna or the bread from heaven, as mentioned in Exodus
16:4, that Godmiraculously provided for the Israelites when food supplies ran out during their forty
years of desert wandering. In spite of God s abundant goodness, they grumbled at Him about their
circumstances. In punishment for the Israelites doing, the Lord sent

Identify The Different Types Of Retainers
We all know that one day those braces will come off. At that time your orthodontist creates your
new retainer. We all know the retainer is an important part of the teeth straightening process. If you
do not wear the retainer prescribed by your orthodontist, your teeth will go back to their earlier
placement. Your teethwill line up exactly as they looked before you got braces. Your teeth are held
in place by periodontal ligaments. It takes a long time for the periodontal ligaments to adjust when
the teeth are straightened. Therefore, orthodontists created retainers to keep your teeth straight, in
perfect alignment. Basically, your orthodontist has a choice of three different types of retainers As
a patients this is not something you get to choose; the orthodontist chooses the best retainer for
each patient. Some of the retainers are removable and others are permanently attached. Retainers
which are permanently attached can only be removed by the orthodontist.... Show more content on

Through the use of plaster impressions and x rays, the orthodontist determines which retainer
works best for the patient. There are three basic types of retainers. The Hawley retainer is the most
common retainer, preferred by many orthodontists. Molded to fit your mouth, the retainer has a
piece of wire used to keep your teeth in perfect alignment. The acrylic retainer is easily removed. It
can easily be altered or customized; just incase those perfectly aligned teeth start to move out of
alignment. This is the most common retainer, preferred by many

Problems Faced With Airport Security
When tragedy struck the nation on September 11th, the minor problem of airport security breeches
suddenly became one of the biggest concerns facing our nation. Ever since the late 1980s there had
been many promises and plans to shape up airport security, but according to experts there has been
little, if any, real improvement in public safety since that time (Morris 28). Its obvious to assume
that because of the lack of improvement, great tragedy struck our nation on September 11th. Since
September 11th there has been great attempts in fixing the problems that we face with airport
security, but yet there are still breaches in airport security, we are still not safe. There are several
factors behind the problems with airport security; they range from inadequate machinery used, to
poorly trained screeners. A proposal needs to be raised, one that would seal up the remaining gaps
that we still face regarding the issue of airport security.
Due to all the complicated factors that we have to deal with in regards to airport security, a
proposal will be raised. With the proper precautions, the events of September 11th could have been
prevented. The question raised is, what are the problems with airport security? The issue rather
complex involves three main areas; they include policy, technology, and personnel. The main
problem is the personnel, and it starts with the screeners. A screener is someone who stands watch
as travelers put their items on the X ray conveyor belt (schwartz

Allyl Test Lab Report
The presence of anomeric proton signal at Оґ 6.03 (d, J = 3.3 Hz, 1H) indicated the existance of the
furanose sugar. In 13C NMR spectrum, a high field methylene (confirm by DEPT) carbon signal at
пЃ¤пЂ 36.6 and a quaternary carbon peak (C=N) at пЃ¤пЂ 154.6 conveyed the formation of the
bridged isoxazoline moiety in 2.27a. The ESI MS of the compound 2.27a showed the
appropriate peak at m/z 412 (M+Na+) corresponding to its molecular formula C19H19NO8Na.
The structure of 2.27a was further corroborated by 1H 1H COSY and NOESY experiments.
However in the NOESY spectrum no co relations were found between either bridgehead proton, or
bridged methylene protons with other pre existing carbohydrate chiral centers (Figure 2. 1). It is

Thus 2.25c was synthesized for cycloaddition reaction which again gave rise to 12 membered
bridged isoxazoline 2.27c exclusively in 61% yield (Scheme 2. 14). The 1H and 13C NMR
spectrum of 2.27c exhibits all the characteristics features of bridged observed as in the cases of
2.27a and 2.27b. Appearance of two sets of double doublets at пЃ¤ 3.89 (J = 18.6, 3.0 Hz) and 3.30
(JпЂЅ 18.6, 12.0 Hz) in 1H NMR spectrum and a methylene carbon signal at пЃ¤ 38.4 as well as
quaternary carbon signal (C=N) at пЃ¤ 158.0 was a clear indication of the bridged isoxazoline
nature of 2.27c. Like the NOESY experiments of 2.27a, here again we could not see any cross
peaks (Figure 2. 4) with either the bridgehead proton or bridged methylene protons with the
protons of carbohydrate chiral centers at C 3 and C 4 (with respect to sugar skeleton). Thus the
configuration of bridged methylene is assigned as пЃў oriented. Therefore, it can be concluded that
the change of stereochemistry at C 3 of carbohydrate or changing ally ester to allyl amide does not
have any effect on the regioselectivity of the cycloaddition. It is worthy to mention that in all cases
reactions are highly regio and diastereoselective in nature, because a single product was isolated in

Taxi Driver Film Noir
Film noir is described not as a genre, but as a specific style. It was the primary style in Hollywood
between the 1940 s and mid 1950 s due to the increase in pessimism towards humanity after the
second world war began. The films primarily expressed this attitude through a voiceover, also
known as a voice of God , from the main, brooding protagonist. They often narrated their opinions
and thoughts on the events surrounding and circumstances them. These opinions were dark in
nature, with a sense of no hope and constant despair. It was this disparity that often lead the main
character through a psychological development throughout the film, especially during the

washes away his previous deeds and thoughts of assassinating the presidential candidate. The rain
in the beginning and middle of the film as symbolize the overall gloomy atmosphere Travis has to
work in. He is depressed and constantly makes negative remarks towards the human race and the
city. Even the colors of the environment add to the monotone mood; they were filled with dark
palettes that were illuminated only by the stark neon signs. This clearly references to the distinct
black and white lighting contrast commonly used in classic noir films. The combination of the
character development and the syntax of the film justify why Taxi Driver can be considered as a
successful neo noir

Persuasive Essay On Gay Marriage
In the monumental 2015 Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges, the majority of the justices
voted that the right to marry is a fundamental right of the people, regardless of the gender of the
two people joining in matrimony. Although this current Supreme Court case is considered a
landmark case for the progression towards equality, this national debate pertaining to gay marriage
has been going on since the 1986 case of Bowers v. Hardwick, which altered a Georgia law to
consider only the constitutionality of applying the law to homosexual sodomy (Linder). The
decision by this Supreme Court reflects the decades of previous Supreme Court cases about the
actual constitutionality of same sex marriage as well as the ongoing debate between widely
different viewpoints. Nevertheless, due to the nature of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights,
specifically the Fourteenth Amendment, there is a constitutional precedence for the decision to
allow homosexual people to marry. In addition, the history of cases about marriage and the recent
Supreme Court case solidified the right for these people to marry. As said by Justice Anthony
Kennedy, No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love,
fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family (Liptak). Because of the nature and belief of the Fourteenth
Amendment on equality and rights of a discriminated group of people, the right for gay people to
marry has rational and constitutional validations. According to

Florence Welch Literary Devices
From the Very Beginning Delilah is the product of confusion. Florence Welch, the lead singer of
Florence And The Machine, uses light and energetic language and upbeat music to express
feelings of freedom, saying I m drifting through the halls with the sunrise... . The lyrics however
begin to tell a different story.. ...I m gonna be free and I m going to be fine... Welch sings in the
foreground about freedom than ...Maybe not tonight... she is countered by echoing vocals in the
background which give into the fact that what she is saying may not be true. The contradicting
language in the song is a key part of the underlying theme. Delilah is Welch s way of expressing

singing about. There is a person standing in the middle of a messy room barefoot. All you can

part of the contradictory image the song has. The immediate imagery a viewer would take away is

Example Of Artificial Sweeteners
Final Draft
Sweeteners come in different forms. There are natural sweeteners and artificial sweeteners
Do we understand what we consume?
Is our reliance on sweeteners detrimental to our society?
We created artificial sweeteners to cope with our addiction to sugar. One of the appeals of artificial
sweeteners is that it comes with less calories than sugar and that it does not cause your insulin levels
to spike.
We should cut down our sugar intake in America. We should start small by starting locally in our
communities. Shopping from a farmer s markets
According to heart.org, Sugars in your diet can be naturally occurring or added. Naturally
occurring sugars are found naturally in foods such as fruit (fructose) and milk (lactose). Added
sugars are sugars and syrups put in foods during preparation or processing, or added at the table.
Too much added sugar may cause your liver to reject insulin. Insulin is an important hormone that
helps turn glucose(sugar) in your bloodstream into energy. If your body can t control your blood
sugar levels, it can lead to type 2 diabetes. Although research has overconsumption of sugar is bad
for your health, artificial sweeteners should not be considered as a safer alternative.
Artificial Sweeteners tend to help avoid the problem rather than fix it. Diet sodas are an example
of this. People would drink a Diet Coke or a Coke Zero thinking that it is healthier than a regular
Coke. Diet Coke gives off a connotation that it is better for your body

The Performance Of The Performing Arts
The performing arts give and enhance many traits in a person s life. Students involved in theater
prepares students for later in life experiences. Participation also makes people feel a certain
belonging to society. Students learn new skills: increased intelligence, and the ability to connect
and read others emotions. Participation in the performing arts gives people experience, the
feeling of belonging, and new skills. Firstly, students participating in theater gain experiences
for later careers. For example, someone who understands an audition would know what to
expect in a job or college interview. Assisting in a performance, even on the technical side, can
also improve the ability to withstand stress and being put in a position under pressure (Mintz).
This also expands one s capacity for thinking and knowledge about the performing arts and gives
students a greater appreciation for the arts. They gain new abilities and endure more of the
hardships in their lives. Problem solving is a definite trait gained for the teamwork and
leadership roles many must take on in productions. This prepares them for their career and the
hardships and pressure they must endure. Some people even view the performing arts as
transcendent experience, giving them a new way to look at life as a whole, making it a spiritual
experience. Also performing enhances one s speaking ability, or public speaking. This is
extremely useful later in life when, for example, one has to give a

Interreactivity, Empathy And Complicity In The Walking...
The game toggles back and forth with scenes that put the player in control of exploring the
environment as well as following the games guideline. There lyes a moral misconception in the
game where the player is introduced to believe their decisions effect a different outcome to how the

this seemingly straightforward statement, no matter how believable the game makes it seem, the

Cultural Anthropology Essay
Cultural Anthropology
Almost all cultures world wide have highly developed traditions of music and dance. According to
Mari Womack, author of Being Human: An Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, music and dance
carry much importance within a culture. As do other artistic forms, music and dance reflect cultural
and social organization. Cultural values can be conveyed in the words of a song, and the
performance of a song or a dance is dependent on the social context (Womack 226). Music and
instruments are of great significance in many places world wide. For example, the BaMbuti

Marching Band as the art of music and dance.
Marching Band is, in most high schools, on the fringes of society. Those instrument toting kids
spend countless hours fine tuning their skills, only to receive little respect from the rest of the
students. They are called band nerds. They are laughed at. And yet they persist. But why? Why not
give into the mainstream high school culture and join football or cheer leading? Why spend
countless hours playing and replaying their parts until their fingers are worn to the bone when they
could be watching movies, going on dates, and eating pizza? These were my questions based on
my limited knowledge of high school marching bands. So, I decided to use my budding role as
anthropologist to find out.
My first step was to select a marching band to study. Luckily, the local high school, Goshen High
School, has an excellent marching band which has competed at the state level for the last
decade. A friend of mine at Goshen College who was a member of the band helped me to contact
a current member of the band who could assist me by being my informant. For my informant, I

several other roles as well. Jordan also has been involved in the Marching Band for all of his four

Angiotensin Research Paper
Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitors also known as ACE inhibitors that are commonly
used to decrease blood pressure. ACE inhibitors block the production of angiotensin I to
angiotensin II which then decrease the levels of angiotensin II and elevated levels of
bradykinin. ACE drugs are also used to treat heart failure, diabetic nephropathy, and MI. The
blockage of angiotensin I to angiotensin II can produce vasodilation, decrease blood volume,
decrease cardiac and vascular remodeling, potassium retention and fetal injury which are all
possible side effects for ACE. A big thing to note about ACE it that it should not be given to
women who are of childbearing age due to the risk for fetal injury, especially if they are in their
second or third trimester of pregnancy. Since ACE inhibitors can increase bradykinin levels they
potential side effect for that is vasodilation, ACE cough, angioedema. If a patient presents with

Network Built For Local Area Networks Essay
WANs are systems built for information exchange that connects computers from anywhere in
the world across the globe. A wide area network (WAN) is generally used by large corporations
or organizations. WANs are very useful to these sorts of associations because it easily allows
them to deploy data from their computers to disseminate offices. Large organizations that use
multiple facilities usually end up using WANs. Smaller businesses are increasingly using WANs
as well. They are able to use WANs if they have at least two secluded sites. WAN usually connects
two or more LANs together. LAN stands for local area networks. The internetthat we all use is very
much considered a WAN. WANs have existed for many years. They are methodical and controlled
much differently from other types of telecommunication systems. WANs are very similar to LANs
because they serve almost the same purpose. WANs are still a bit more intricate than LANs of
course. In order for a user to use WAN, they first would have to subscribe to a telecommunication
providers service. The organizations that choose to use WANs do not own or control any of the
communication lines that connect the secluded network systems to other computers. WANs are not
used to connect individual computers with each other. They were built to link different LANs
together. When the WAN connects the LANs to each other this is called internetwork. Routers and
remote bridges play a part to the internetwork as

An International Criminal Court
The establishment of an international criminal court was a slow, arduous process. Following the
horrific human rights violations committed by the Nazis in World War II, the global community
began to take the proper steps to combat the notion that being at war sanctions gross abuses of
human rights. It was not a lust for violence that elongated the process of establishing the ICC
(international criminal court), but rather the long time battle between accepting that the world is
increasingly affected by globalization and holding fast to the age old tradition of prizing state
sovereignty above all. The scale of the genocidecarried out against all peoples not of Aryan descent
in the 1940s was the catalyst needed to start talks about prizing guaranteed rights over the incessant
need to abide by antiquated customary law. Whilst many argue that the ICC and ad hoc tribunals
such as the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) fail to provide a comprehensive international legal
framework, they serve other important purposes. Firstly, the ICC and its parent tribunals played a
major part in ending the culture of impunity. Oftentimes, in states where there are violations of
international humanitarian law, the government is wrought with corruption. Politicians and
government officials abuse the rights of their citizens and others under the guise of sovereign
immunity. Tribunals, and later the ICC,

A Simplified Approach For Optimization Of The Tube System
A Simplified Approach for Optimization of Tube System in Tall Buildings Introduction: Structural
systems for tall buildings have undergone a dramatic evolution throughout the previous two
decades and into the 2010s. Developments in structural form have historically been realized a
response to emerging architectural trends in high rise building design. The development of the
original tubular systems for tall buildings was indeed predicated upon an overall building form of
constant or smoothly varying profile [1]. As the number of different high rise structures in
existence expands every year, there is an increase in the possibility of damage due to earthquake or
other hazards. In the event of such damage it is important to be able to correlate damage intensity
with the particular tall building system used. Of the various alternatives, a framing oriented scheme
is selected as a means of classifying structural systems. The fundamental systems within it are
bearing wall, core, tube, and frame, together with the appropriate mixtures of these systems. For a
proposed building there is no right or wrong way for a structure to carry gravity loads to the
foundation or resist lateral loads. However, there are structurally efficient solutions, economic
solutions and other radical, unique, and challenging solutions [2]. Tall buildings are highly
sophisticated engineering projects. Due to the complexity of the structures, the most advanced

Strengths Of Meta-Analysis Case Studies
There are different methods to collect data from qualitative research, this includes visual analysis
from videos or books, observations and individual or group interviews (Gill et al., 2008). Based on
the given article on qualitative research, the article mentioned that it uses case study approach for
their research. Robson (1993) define case studyas a strategy for doing research which involves an
empirical investigation of a particular contemporary phenomenon within its real life context using
multiple sources of evidence . Based on Zainal (2007), only a limited number of individuals or a
small geographical area as the subjects of study will be chosen to be involved in a case study
research. Thus, this enables a researcher to closely examine... Show more content on

Based on Petitti (2000), meta analysis is classified as exploratory analysis. Meta analysis is the
application of statistical techniques to integrate and summarize the results of several studies
into a single estimate (Wolf, 1986). Wolf (1986) stated that meta analysis can be well applied in
numerous areas within all the social, behavioral and biomedical sciences. One of the strengths
of meta analysis is that it can include a large sample size. Thus, more variable and outcomes can
be included (Walker et.al, 2008). For example, meta analysis can be effectively used in the
analysis that could not be done in individual trials, such as regression analyses (Walker et.al,
2008). However, by including a large sample size, it would lead to subgroups of patients being
compared (Walker et.al, 2008). In this case, Walker (2008) suggested that the best way to
minimize this problem is to test the outcome before the data are collected and analyzed (Walker
et.al, 2008). Besides that, the lack of information will affect the type of analyses and conclusions
that can be reached in a meta analysis (Walker et.al, 2008). This is because most reports of
individual studies include only the summary results, such as standard deviations, proportions, mean
and odds

A Speech That Made History
The 20th century was an era of change in the world. Wars changed the landscape and people,
African Americans were beginning to gain some basic human rights, and women were very
slowly starting to gain equality with men. Women were now able to get jobs, but they were still
not fully in control of their own bodies. There was a lot of (was much) controversy over topics
such as pre marital sex, birth control, and abortion, and these controversies were part of what led
Margaret Sanger to give her speech about the morality of birth control in the early 1920s. Sanger
used many different techniques in her speech to make it stronger and more persuasive, and also to
make a lasting impression with the people who heard or read her speech.
The Life of Margaret Sanger
Margaret Sanger was born in 1879 into a rather large family. She was one of 18 children her
mother gave birth to, although only 11 of those 18 survived. It is said that her mother s births
took a major toll on her health and later motivated Sanger to take an interest in nursing and birth
control. In the late 19th century, Sanger studied at Claverack College and Hudson River Institute
to become a nurse. She worked as a nurse in New York for about 15 years before changing career
paths and becoming a Sex Education Pioneer. In 1912, she published her first newspaper column
entitled, What Every Girl Should Know. She

Therapeutic Listening
EMA
The articles main focus is to research the processes involved in leaning to listen therapeutically.
Listening is a key tool when learning how to become a counsellor; Lee Prior (2013) aimed to study
the accounts of students in their development of therapeutic listening. Seventeen students in total
agreed to participate in the interviews but only fourteen were able to participate, their ages ranged
between 25 and 60 years of age. From the 14candidates only ten interviews were transcribed, and
only six were analysed further. Six first year counselling students who had just finished a post
graduate certificate in counselling skills were interviewed and analysed. Due to the nature of study,
the researchers elected to use qualitative techniques ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quantitative research is more widely used in psychology, as it is accurate and reliable. It is not
concerned with individuality and would not be suitable for this type of research project.
Some say that the IPA technique has become very popular amongst students as it focuses on
personal lived experience, which fits well with the quantitative method. Within the field of research,
there is constant debate on how to determine validity. Elliott, Fischer and Rennie (1999) suggested a
quality criterion for qualitative research.
Reflexivity is the act of constantly reflecting on oneself as the researcher and the relationship
between the interviewee. Reflexivity is important as it is set up to stop the manipulation of results.
The researchers has to be aware that their presence alone will affect the outcome of the analysis and
it is important that they are aware of this and do all that they can to minimise the effects they have
on the respondents. Reflexivity is inextricably linked with accuracy, especially within the
relationship between the researcher and the

The Importance Of Endangered Species
Many species are becoming extinct due to environmental issues, pollution, and change in habitats.
When an animal becomes extinct, it means the last of their kind has died many of these beautiful
and ravishing animals that reside in the world may never be seen again. The endangered species
that are still living do not have much of a future if something is not done about it. Humans are not
the only ones on the planet and as the human population goes up another species has been wiped
out of existence humans can fix what they started. Endangered animals is a topic that is overlooked
and needs to be addressed it needs humans full attention because they are the ones that can truly
make a change.
Animals that are endangered will be categorized on a sort of chart to see how much of their
species still lives. Endangered animals acquire many levels of extinction: near threatened,
vulnerable, endangered, critically endangered, and extinct in the wild ( nat geo ). The
requirements for an animal to be endangered and on the Red List is decided by the Conservation
of Nature where a huge portion of its population has been wiped out (Bove). The list consists of
animals like grizzly bears, bald eagles, and gray wolves. The IUCN predicts that body size and
geographic range size are important predictors of extinction risk. The endangered animals on the list
still have hope of getting off that list and repopulate their species they just need the help from
humans also.

Immortality In Gilgamesh
The epic of Gilgamesh tells a story about a half human half god man searching for life answers. It
highlights the basic of human nature, human fears, desires, and needs. The main character
Gilgamesh has these characteristics of humankind with intense strength and the position of power
from his god like background. The first thing the audience learns from the story is that Gilgamesh
builds protective walls around the city, a great gift to his society. When the audience next learns
that the king has been abusive to the young men of the city and has deflowered young maidens,
their disapproval of these acts is tempered by their initial approval of his great accomplishment.

Watching Kung Fu Panda Three Times
MOM! It s not fair! My youngest child yelled again. Alex continued with his exasperated three
year old logic, AJ got to watch Kung Fu Panda three times, and I only got to see it twice last
night! (A. G. Neff, personal communication, October 4, 2012). The consternation arose from my
insistence that a different movie should be viewed other than the same one that had been
continually playing on the television set for the previous three days. My children always love
repeat performances, and ever since I had pulled the DVD out of the moving boxes and told
them I needed to watch it as part of my own homework, it was as if no other film would satisfy
(Cobb, Stevenson Osborne, 2008). My five year old recognized that I would not allow another
viewing without a change in tactics. But Mom, if you don t watch it again you won t be able to
do your homework. You won t know that Po s Dad [Note: according to the movie transcript Po s
Dad is the character s actual name] isn t even a panda! (Aibel Berger, 2008, p. 3). Without
explaining that I had already familiar with the situation because I had seen the movie no less than
three times in the previous 72 hours, I replied, Is that really important? YES! They both yelled
back. AJ unwittingly enlightened me, All the animals are different, but they re ALL important!

The Values Of Islam In The United States
In recent years, Muslims and Arab Americans have become hot topics of conversation in politics
and everyday life. Terrorist attacks and other cruel acts committed by individuals and groups who
claim Islam have become quite frequent in the United States and across the globe, even in countries
where Islam is the dominant faith. These acts have resulted in many people becoming cautious,
fearful, and prejudiced against all Muslims and Arabs. Many of these judgements are preconceived
and based off of misunderstandings and incorrect assumptions about the Islamic faith. In reality,
Islamand Christianityare not so different; many of the values of Christians and Muslims actually
coincide. Both Christians and Muslims believe in one true god, although Muslims use the Arabic
word, Allah . There has been much debate over whether Allah is the same God that Christians
believe in and follow. Some believe that it is the same God, while others disagree. Regardless, both
follow one true God rather than many deities, as other religions do. Although both groups
acknowledge the life of Jesus, Muslims believe Jesus to have been a simple prophet and not the
son of God. This is arguably the Muslims and Christians also greatly value modesty, to different
degrees. Some branches of Christianity follow strict modesty codes while other branches are more
lenient. As is the case in Christianity, there are varying levels of modesty practiced by Muslims.

The Effects Of Underage Drinking
According to the New York Times, More than 1,800 students die every year of alcohol related
causes...600,000 are injured while drunk, and nearly 100,000 become victims of alcohol influenced
sexual assaults (Mcmurtrie). This is the case as many students in America find happiness in the
consumption of unhealthy amounts of alcohol and underage drinking. Unfortunately, these issues
have been more prevalent on college campuses, where students have formed a culture of abusing
alcohol. There seems to be no solution in sight as many college students fall victim to the
devastating effects of alcohol abuseand underage drinking despite the legal drinking age.
Regardless of the brutal effects of misusing alcohol, college students still continue to binge drink
and participate in underage drinking. This leads one to wonder the cause of this destructive
phenomenon. While some blame the minimum drinking age, others blame the society and the
ignorance of the college students. Although these factors may contribute, in reality, college students
in the U.S. tend to abuse alcohol because of their perception of alcohol and its consumption.
To begin with, students think of alcohol as helpful and necessary for social engagement. This is
because they are burdened with the societal pressure of fitting in when they get to college. They
are placed in a new environment, where they feel they have to get acquainted with their peers in
order to survive. In an article about college drinking, Dr. Jodi

Benefits Of Roundabouts In The City Of Yucaipa
In the city of Yucaipa, back in 2014, a plan was approved for the city to make several
roundabouts to replace stop lights and stop signs along residential areas. They made a plan that
would place 5 of these roundabouts along Avenue E and a few along Yucaipa Blvd. the plan
would, in the end, cost them around $2.3 million (according to a 2013 estimate). Now Calimesa
wants to follow in its footsteps and build 6 new roundabouts along County Line Rd. along with a
road restoration project that will cost well over $16.4 million to complete. The city is calling for
Yucaipa to contribute almost $2 million, while also receiving an $11 million grant from the federal

The city is making a mistake. If they can t afford it, then they need to invest more to bring
businesses and services for the people. That way, they can afford to make such a huge project
plan. The mentality that roundabouts would attract tourists is the wrong one to have. They
would not earn back the money that they cost the city. And while they lessen the impact of car
accidents on the road, they cause more accidents as people are unfamiliar on how to enter or go
through a roundabout. And they are inconvenient or maybe even intimidating for pedestrians
with their design. On top of that, they are disadvantages with the many blind spots that are
created, either from the driver s focus or the inconvenient decorative islands in the center of the
intersection. Why are we even making roundabouts then? I don t know. Well actually I do have
an idea why, but it just seems illogical to me. Possible solution number 1) Just don t build the
roundabouts. Simple. Well, not really, the leftover funds need to go somewhere after all. There
is a call to improve the roads in this small town in Calimesa, and after the last sudden burst of
rainfall we received recently, the roads are in some really bad shape. The funds would be better
used to repair the existing roads, and it would likely be less costly and would require no land

sociological theories all believe religion acts as a conservative force in society in a sense that
religion helps keep things the way they are and keep everything stable. However some of these
theories may be against the idea that religion acts conservative force for their own reasons. For
example Feminism believes that religion acts as a conservative force nevertheless they are

His interpretation of religion is more to do with psychological functions for the individual than
anything else, in a sense that religion is a psychological need for the individual to deal with
certain situations. For example situations which provoke anxiety, uncertainty and threatens
social life may result in the individual to turn to religion. In Malinowski s view, religion acts
upon life crisis which prevents anxiety. As a result, Malinowski agrees with the fact that
religion acts as a conservative force as it maintains stability by helping people to deal with
anxiety, thereby stopping social disruption. Marxist believe that religion acts inevitably as a
conservative force because religion is an ideological state apparatus which spreads capitalist
ideas, thus maintains the social hierarchy, and in doing so maintains harmony and consensus in
society. This is reinforced by Marx who claims religion is the opium of the people hence religion
dulls the pain of oppression for them. Marx claims that religion is still a conservative force as
through the use of ideology it justifies the oppression of the proletariat e.g. in the hymn rich man at
his castle the poor man at his gate, god made them high and ordered their estate . This suggests god
created inequality; as a result

Critically discuss the notion of labour as a fictitious commodity . Provide examples where
necessary.
This paper outlines the argument of labour as a fictious commodity using Polanyi s work. This
paper first define what commodity is and what fictitious commodity is before going into deep
details of this topic. Conclusions have been drawn base on the main core of the topic and critiques
of fictitious commodity by Polanyi.
First, a commodity is a good or service that is actively produced for sale in a labour process. A
commodity can result from peasant, petty commodity, state production, cooperative production, or
social enterprise as well as capitalist production what matters is its production for sale (Polanyi
2001, 71). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Polanyi nonetheless highlights that while labour, land, and money are essential to the market
economy; the fact is that they are not commodities, in the sense that they are not objects
produced for sale on the market. As Polanyi points out, labour is another name for a human
activity which goes with life itself, which in its turn is not produced for sale but for entirely
different reasons, nor can that activity be detached from the rest of life, be stored or mobilized
(Polanyi 2001, 75). Similarly, land is another name for nature, which is not produced by man ;
while money is merely a token of purchasing power which, as a rule, is not produced at all, but
comes into being through the mechanism of banking or state finance (Polanyi 2001, 75). To
include these fictitious commodities in the market mechanism means to subordinate the substance
of society itself to the laws of the market (Polanyi 2001, 75). For Polanyi (2001. 76), this would
inevitably result on the demolishing of society. The commodity description of labor is entirely
fictitious

and self regulation. The imperative for non market

solar oven there will be black paint. The black paint is to see if the oven will get hotter, then if
there was not any black paint in the box. He will put different amounts of black paint in the pizza
boxes to see if he can get the box to get hotter. He will also use foil to see if he can get the heat to
stay in the box longer. He figures that the more foil he puts in the pizza box then the less black
paint he will have to put in the pizza box. He figures that the foil will hold in the heat more than
just a lot of black paint would.
He will put just black paint in one box. He also will put just foil in one box. He will see which
one will get hotter within a certain time period. He will then see if he makes one with black
paint and foil, if it will get hotter than the other one that got hotter. He will have to test the pizza
boxes on a hot sunny day. He will have to test all the pizza boxes on the same day in the same
heat. How will he test the pizza boxes? He will take all three of the different boxes and put them
outside at the same time, on the same day. He will then go outside and measure the temperature in
the boxes at the same time. He will then figure out if the black paint or the foil box was hotter. He

Kierkegaard Sacrifice
Although remembered by many as foremost a philosopher, SГёren Kierkegaard was quite the
theologian in his time, with his own unique approach to theology and Christianity in general. In a
time that was ruled by objective methodology in every aspect of acquiring and summarizing
knowledge, Kierkegaard sought to bring Christianityback into the realm of the subjective, thereby
making it much more interactive and personal. What this paper focuses on is Kierkegaard s
requirement of sacrifice that all Christians must be willing to make in order to be considered true
Christians, followed by both a critique and a praise for his contagious notion.

Even more drastic, some tied in their religious beliefs and faith with their work ethic and/or

you are a Christian? Are you not a Dane...do you not perform you duties at the office like a
conscientious civil servant; are you not a good servant of a Christian nation...so of course you
must be a Christian. Kierkegaard loathed how cold and detached the Christian faith had
become, so he saw it fit that he remind people what being a Christian truly meant. In his famous
work Fear and Trembling, Kierkegaard declares that no person has a right to delude others into
the belief that faith is something of no great significance, or that it is an easy matter, whereas it
is the greatest and most difficult of all things. The difficulty of faith lies in the requirement of
sacrifice. The story of Abraham s near sacrifice of his beloved son, Isaac, is what Kierkegaard
utilizes to demonstrate how costly faith in God is. Here is a man, who after seventy years of
waiting for God s promise of offspring finally received his son, is commanded by God to slay his
promised son with no stated reason for doing so. Kierkegaard, in attempting to experience what
Abraham might have experienced in those moments, cries, Now all is lost, God demands Isaac, I
shall sacrifice him, and with him all my joy but for all that, God is love and will remain so for me.

Analysis Of The Poem The Bridge
Vanessa loves the woods. She goes there every day, after doing her chores, and comes back at

over the whole town, Vanessa quickly and quietly snuck out of the house, she was curious about
that bridge, something about it just hooked her. Once Vanessa had arrived in the woods the
same Bridge was there though she had thought that it would have been way farther, for some
reason Vanessa felt like that the bridge was just waiting for her. She first checked if the bridge

Oasis with proper planning possibly could have been a success, some interesting facts about a
company that went under so quickly. In 2007, Oasis Hong Kong was voted World s Leading
New Airline and Asia s Leading Budget/No Frills Airline at the Annual World Travel Awards
2007. It was also named New Airline of the Year by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation of
Australia, and was voted Best New Service and Best Business Class Carrier at the 2007 World
Low Cost Airline Congress Awards held in London. One can only wonder what went wrong.
The airline had only five planes two Boeing 747 412 and 3 Boeing 747 481 owned previously by
other airlines. Two hot meals and soft drinks were served free on both long haul routes in all
classes and Oasis tickets were sold through the website and travel agents. Looking at them from a
business sense one would have to think that somewhere in the management of Oasis something
went terribly wrong. This company had all the making of success and certainly there are many
people who wish it had.

The Idea Of Natural Selection
The idea of anthropocentrism provides comfort to humans. It posits that in this messy,
incomprehensible world, we are still the central species. This idea allows, and even encourages,
humans to view the world through a very anthropological lens and assume that, because we are the
dominant and most important species, nature works in human terms and is the domain of man.
The idea of creationism is very anthropocentric itself. In the Hebrew Bible, man was created
before all other animals and designed in God s image. He was given domain over nature by God as
well. This idea of human supremacy and exceptionalism has persisted into modernity, but the advent
of Darwin s evolutionary theory altered human s perception of themselves and the natural world.
The typical belief in human dominance was shaken through Darwin s idea of natural selection and
evolution which posited that humans, just as all other species descended from some one prototype
(484). The descendants of this one prototype evolved based on natural selection. Evolution led to
the creation of all organisms, living and extinct, including humans. The theory of evolution
challenged the ideas of human exceptionalism and anthropocentrism by including humans in the
same category as all other organisms, organisms that we as humans feel superior to. In evolutionary
theory, humans become simply another species that managed to survive the struggle for existence
rather than a master of nature created in the image of

The Crime Of Serial Killers
Serial killers are everywhere, all around you and those you know and love. Although the average
estimated count is thirty to fifty, it has been estimated that as many as two hundred of these
maniacs are active throughout the entire United States at any given moment. Some people claim to
have a pretty good idea of that which surrounds serial murder. Who are these deranged beasts
which cause so much terror and commotion? By definition, serial killers are men or women who
have taken the lives of at least three victims over an extended period of time. However, those
words do not even come close to properly expressing the complexity of a psychopathic, homicidal
mind. Most killers murder merely for pleasure, rather than for profit. There are a plethora of
negative influences that help to push a potential killer over the edge. For example, western society s
culture puts emphasis on sex and violence. Those who grow up in such an environment often
become desensitized to these things and lose compassion for victims of even the most gruesome
crimes. This inevitably does not mix at all well with inclinations to kill. Usually, the victims of
serial murder are strangers chosen based on the difficulty of manipulating the person and
vulnerability. Young runaways and prostitutes are subsequently most frequently targeted, as history
has shown that there is little public outcry concerning the deaths of those types of people.
Additionally, even though the patterns among killers

across the sex and gender barriers. Although we have an estimate of the population of individuals
who define themselves to be a part of the LGBT community, there are only more individuals who
are feeling confused and are harboring sexual attractions and behaviors within. This knowledge is
imperative to grasp in the counseling profession because many individuals may not feel open
enough to talk about such new controversial issues. A clear understanding of what the Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community undergoes is the first step in becoming competent
enough to providing a positive moving cross cultural experience for both client and counselor.
According to AMCD Multicultural Counseling Competencies, Culturally skilled counselors should
familiarize themselves with relevant research and the latest findings regarding mental health and
mental disorders that affect various ethnic and racial groups. They should actively seek out
educations experiences that enrich their knowledge, understanding and cross cultural skills for
more effective counseling behavior

Ignatius J. Reilley In John Kennedy Toole s Confederacy Of Du
Ignatius J. Reilly is the main character in the humorous book Confederacy of Dunces, by John
Kennedy Toole, which is set in the city of New Orleans in the early 1960s. Ignatius is an educated
man of thirty who lives in Uptown New Orleans with his mother Mrs. Irene Reilly. Throughout the
book Ignatius searches for a job and encounters many difficulties while roaming the city. His
insatiable appetite, overpowering laziness, and outlandish personality adds a comical view of him
which builds throughout the novel. Ignatius J. Reilley can best be described in three words which
dominate his character throughout the entirety of the novel: disrespectful, idealistic, and arrogant.
Ignatius s outlandish, childish disrespect is one of his main personality ... Show more content on

Ignatius believes he is very intelligent, but although he has a college degree, he lacks much
common sense. When told to find a job, Ignatius believes he can hold almost any position but
later discovers that is untrue and states Apparently I lack some particular perversion which today
s employer is seeking (154). Ignatius thinks of others around him as being uneducated and
barbarian like. While Ignatius was on his normal hot dog selling route, the Ladies Art Guild was
having a hanging of their paintings, and Ignatius decided to take a look. Upon seeing a picture of
a camellia painted by one of the women, Ignatius exclaimed You ladies need a critic with some
taste and decency (224). Ignatius thinks very highly of himself as being a scholar and man of the
arts, yet he continues to act like a child and a fool throughout the story.
Ignatius J. Reilly is a character readers either love or hate because of his personality. He is a very
odd character who brings humor to readers across the world who share in his humorous spirit. For
reasons such as his personality, humor, and creativity, Ignatius J. Reilly is one of the most studied
characters at Jesuit High School and causes people to continue to study his character even to this

Mother Son Conflict In The Odyssey
There is a common theme in Greek Mythology of children fighting with, overthrowing, and often
killing their parents. Zeus kills his father Cronus to rise to power as the king of the Olympian
gods. Prior to this, Cronus had killed his own father, Uranus, which lead to the rise of the Titans.
Perhaps you re confused. No one kills their parents in the books we read in class, you re probably
thinking. In this, you are correct. However, Telemachus relationship with his mother Penelopestill
fits some aspects of this trope of struggling in the assumption of power from his parents. His
murder of the maids at his father s command is influenced by his attempting to prevail in this
mother son conflict.
In order to present this concept in my media project, I created a comic detailing Telemachus
hypothetical thought process, the people and statements I d imagine were passing through his mind
the moment before he murdered the maids. In doing so, I can justify my thesis. Sections from the
comic and the quotations that go along with them will appear on the screen behind me as I provide
literary analysis, and at the end I ll show the comic in full.
To begin, in order to prove the murders were influenced by the conflict, it must first be proven that
there is a conflict. Shortly after the introductory section of the Odyssey, we see Telemachus telling
his mother to go back to her quarters and tend to her distaff and loom . Then, he reminds her he
holds the reins of power in their house.

The Influence Of Deception In Raven Black
Deception is the action of betraying and letting someone down. Sometimes individuals are so
caught up in the moment that they do not think about the consequences of their actions. In the
novel Raven Black, deception is shown throughout the story by a murder, mystery of a missing
girl, and a kidnap. The thriller Raven Black, by Ann Cleeves, takes place during the dark cold
winter in January, in the ShetlandIslands. In the novel, every character reveals a different mindset
by their actions and thoughts. In the article, Fixed vs. Growth: The Two Basic Mindsets That
Shape Our Lives, Maria Popova talks about how every individual has a different mindset. Someone
with a fixed mindset assumes that they cannot change for the better and their intelligence or
qualities are fixed traits. On the contrary, someone with a growth mindset enjoys a challenge, they
believe they can learn from their mistakes and most importantly they know there is always room
for improvement. In Raven Black, Inspector Jimmy Perez, Magnus Tait and Sally Henry show
whether they have a fixed or growth mindset, which result in how they act and think throughout the
novel. Inspector Jimmy Perez is a diligent and clever detective who does not settle for the first clue
he notices in an investigation. In the novel Raven Black, by Ann Cleeves Inspector Perez shows he
has a growth mindset, by having an open mindand not blaming Magnus Tait for the murderof
Catherine Ross. He takes into consideration that he cannot be

The Contribution of American Women to the Abolitionist...
The Abolitionist Movement changed the course of the nation. In addition to the eventual
emancipation of slaves, it transformed the role of women in American History. During the
Abolitionist Movement, it was thought that the duties of women were confined within the home
(Boylan 363). While most women of the time agreed with this statement, there were many who did
not. This change of attitude started during the Great Awakening (Baker 623). Eliza Wilkinson
wrote, I won t have it thought that because we are the weaker sex as to bodily strength we are
capable of nothing more than domestic concerns (Goldfield, et al. 171). During this time, society
was against women leaving the home. Many of the men who were against slaverywere also opposed

A racially integrated group of women formed the Boston Female Anti Slavery Society in
October of 1833. This was uncommon for the time period. The society was made up of three
different social classes of women, which caused conflict of interest within the society. The
different classes were white, upper class women, white, middle class women, and elite black
women. The upper class though that the middle class were restricting the ideas of the society,
while the middle class thought the aggressive techniques of the upper class women was
atrocious (Hansen 46). Upper class white women used men s tactics like political protest and
public action to spread their cause, while middle class women used church based techniques,
while focusing towards the needs of women and children (Hansen 63).The elite black women
were less interested in policy issues and instead advocated programs that would provide direct
care to the black community (Hansen 46). Slavery was thought of as a sin by many people,
causing many women to leave the church over this disagreement (Petrulionis 389). Many of these
women in Boston formed the Anti Slavery Society, which became one of the nation s biggest and
most influential. To wash away the sin of slavery, it was customary for a minister s wife to be the
first president of the Boston Anti Slavery Society; Charlotte Phelps was the first to fill this position
(Hansen 47). Her

The Elwha River ( Duda )
Introduction: The Elwha river is located on the Olympic Peninsula of the Pacific Northwest in
Washington State. It travels 72 kilometers from the Olympic range in the Olympic National Park
to the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Before human disturbance this watershed was considered one of the
most productive ecosystems in Washington State and all of the Pacific Northwest (Duda). In
the early 1900 s two dams were built in this watershed on the Elwha river forming two lakes. The
Elwha hydroelectric dam at river kilometer (rKm) 7.9 (Figure 1.) was finished in 1913 and
formed the Aldwell lake. 14 years later when electricity demands were greatly increased the
Glines dam (Figure 2.) was built further upstream at river kilometer (rKm) 21.6 which then
formed Mills lake. (NPS, Dam Construction) Figure 1Figure 2. Studies before the dam removal
have shown that 83% of the Olympic National Park has been untouched and is still considered a
pristine wildlife habitat which is good news. This means that if the lower end from the dams
and below can restored then the Elwha River ecosystem theoretically will recover as well. Of the
lower 5 miles that was left available for fish spawning, not very much of it was usable. The dams
cause a baseline shift in the lower river by changing the composition of the river bed from fine
sediment to larger stones and boulders which is not prime spawning habitat for fish. The negative
effects of the dams, both indirect and direct,

But at the same time there are several problems yet today in Modern India which is affecting the development and growth of the country. The social problems in India today have their roots in the diversity of religion, language, and culture. There were many people to have huge attachment to one s region, language, religion and when these attachments grow to an crazy extreme level they create intolerance for other religions, languages, problems are bound to rise. So many cases of tragedy such as peaceful protests, riots and poverty has shaped the outcome of what India has become today. An eye for an eye makes everybody blind summarizes Gandhi s view of violence. Gandhi did not believe in violence as a technique of achieving his goal of an independent India. He taught non violent non effort to create for the people of India. When Gandhi was arrested many times and put to prison, his followers were tempted to fight back to British authorities. • 4. The Philip Defanco Show For a week I chose to watch and compare The Rachel Maddow Show and The Philip DeFranco Show. I had chosen to compare the two because they are both personality driven news shows, with the similar format of one presenter and a skew towards a liberal political stance. These similarities will allow me to more clearly see a difference in how I consume the content. The format of the show hosted by Maddow, a cable news show on MSNBC, has remained for the most part, static, it could have been produced 30 years ago to the same effect through television. Whereas, DeFranco s show on YouTube would never have been able to exist in its capacity if it were not for the internet. Clearly marking the distinction between old and new media to me. I firstly noted that the news stories which were covering by the two sources were mainly different. While DeFranco skewed more towards pop culture, Maddow was more focused on governmental events. Both however, covered American politics and events. One intersecting story which occurred during the week was that of Elizabeth Warren, the senator who was silenced during a debate on the nomination of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... YouTube uses a similar model as television, advertisements, but in a completely different form. Creators on YouTube are payed based on views, as the more people watch the content the more advertisers are interested in investing, but this model is fluctuating and unreliable. To build a more sustainable model, many creators turn to alternative forms of revenue. Philip DeFranco, for example, has built a business model on selling merchandise, acquiring his own sponsors and working with a larger multimedia company, Discovery Network. Therefore, in a sense new media is still very much financially reliant on old media. Another social climate is the desire to escape there current situation. Eddie does not want to leave his sister alone, but he is tired of living on the reservation that he would rather be dead. Aunt Thelma tells Eddie how life could have been better if she could have escaped, and had a chance at an education. Mike dreams of leaving and being taken care of by his aunt. Even Katherine dreams of leaving the reservation to find a better place for her kids. There were many other social climates such as pain, depression, destructive habits, and lack of role models. There are no real role models in this play that the kids can look up to. Even Aunt Thelma has lost her child, so it is not the best example to live by. Israelites Rebellion Against God In the midst of the Israelites forty year journey towards the Promise Land of Canaan, Moses records the Israelites persistent complaining and rebellion against God. Numbers 21:4 9 first mentions the complaint of the Israelites against God and Moses, questioning God s plan for them, as they travel in the desert without food and water. We are disgusted with this wretched food, they say. This wretched food refers to the manna or the bread from heaven, as mentioned in Exodus 16:4, that Godmiraculously provided for the Israelites when food supplies ran out during their forty years of desert wandering. We all know the retainer is an important part of the teeth straightening process. If you do not wear the retainer prescribed by your orthodontist, your teeth will go back to their earlier placement. Your teethwill line up exactly as they looked before you got braces. Your teeth are held in place by periodontal ligaments. It takes a long time for the periodontal ligaments to adjust when the teeth are straightened. Therefore, orthodontists created retainers to keep your teeth straight, in perfect alignment. Basically, your orthodontist has a choice of three different types of retainers As a patients this is not something you get to choose; the orthodontist chooses the best retainer for each patient. Problems Faced With Airport Security When tragedy struck the nation on September 11th, the minor problem of airport security breeches suddenly became one of the biggest concerns facing our nation. Ever since the late 1980s there had been many promises and plans to shape up airport security, but according to experts there has been little, if any, real improvement in public safety since that time (Morris 28). Its obvious to assume that because of the lack of improvement, great tragedy struck our nation on September 11th. Since September 11th there has been great attempts in fixing the problems that we face with airport security, but yet there are still breaches in airport security, we are still not safe. There are several factors behind the problems with airport security; they range from inadequate machinery used, to poorly trained screeners. A proposal needs to be raised, one that would seal up the remaining gaps that we still face regarding the issue of airport security. Due to all the complicated factors that we have to deal with in regards to airport security, a proposal will be raised. With the proper precautions, the events of September 11th could have been prevented. The question raised is, what are the problems with airport security? The issue rather complex involves three main areas; they include policy, technology, and personnel. The main problem is the personnel, and it starts with the screeners. Hodges, the majority of the justices voted that the right to marry is a fundamental right of the people, regardless of the gender of the two people joining in matrimony. Although this current Supreme Court case is considered a landmark case for the progression towards equality, this national debate pertaining to gay marriage has been going on since the 1986 case of Bowers v. Hardwick, which altered a Georgia law to consider only the constitutionality of applying the law to homosexual sodomy (Linder). The decision by this Supreme Court reflects the decades of previous Supreme Court cases about the actual constitutionality of same sex marriage as well as the ongoing debate between widely different viewpoints. Nevertheless, due to the nature of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, specifically the Fourteenth Amendment, there is a constitutional precedence for the decision to allow homosexual people to marry. In addition, the history of cases about marriage and the recent Supreme Court case solidified the right for these people to marry. As said by Justice Anthony Kennedy, No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family (Liptak). ACE inhibitors block the production of angiotensin I to angiotensin II which then decrease the levels of angiotensin II and elevated levels of bradykinin. The blockage of angiotensin I to angiotensin II can produce vasodilation, decrease blood volume, decrease cardiac and vascular remodeling, potassium retention and fetal injury which are all possible side effects for ACE. A big thing to note about ACE it that it should not be given to women who are of childbearing age due to the risk for fetal injury, especially if they are in their second or third trimester of pregnancy. A wide area network (WAN) is generally used by large corporations or organizations. Large organizations that use multiple facilities usually end up using WANs. Smaller businesses are increasingly using WANs as well. They are able to use WANs if they have at least two secluded sites. WAN usually connects two or more LANs together. LAN stands for local area networks. The internetthat we all use is very much considered a WAN. WANs have existed for many years. Following the horrific human rights violations committed by the Nazis in World War II, the global community began to take the proper steps to combat the notion that being at war sanctions gross abuses of human rights. It was not a lust for violence that elongated the process of establishing the ICC (international criminal court), but rather the long time battle between accepting that the world is increasingly affected by globalization and holding fast to the age old tradition of prizing state sovereignty above all. The scale of the genocidecarried out against all peoples not of Aryan descent in the 1940s was the catalyst needed to start talks about prizing guaranteed rights over the incessant need to abide by antiquated customary law. Whilst many argue that the ICC and ad hoc tribunals such as the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) fail to provide a comprehensive international legal framework, they serve other important purposes. Firstly, the ICC and its parent tribunals played a major part in ending the culture of impunity. A Simplified Approach For Optimization Of The Tube System A Simplified Approach for Optimization of Tube System in Tall Buildings Introduction: Structural systems for tall buildings have undergone a dramatic evolution throughout the previous two decades and into the 2010s. Developments in structural form have historically been realized a response to emerging architectural trends in high rise building design. The development of the original tubular systems for tall buildings was indeed predicated upon an overall building form of constant or smoothly varying profile [1]. As the number of different high rise structures in existence expands every year, there is an increase in the possibility of damage due to earthquake or other hazards. In the event of such damage it is important to be able to correlate damage intensity with the particular tall building system used. Of the various alternatives, a framing oriented scheme is selected as a means of classifying structural systems. The fundamental systems within it are bearing wall, core, tube, and frame, together with the appropriate mixtures of these systems. For a proposed building there is no right or wrong way for a structure to carry gravity loads to the foundation or resist lateral loads. However, there are structurally efficient solutions, economic solutions and other radical, unique, and challenging solutions [2]. Tall buildings are highly sophisticated engineering projects. Meta analysis is the application of statistical techniques to integrate and summarize the results of several studies into a single estimate (Wolf, 1986). Wolf (1986) stated that meta analysis can be well applied in numerous areas within all the social, behavioral and biomedical sciences. One of the strengths of meta analysis is that it can include a large sample size. Thus, more variable and outcomes can be included (Walker et.al, 2008). For example, meta analysis can be effectively used in the analysis that could not be done in individual trials, such as regression analyses (Walker et.al, 2008). However, by including a large sample size, it would lead to subgroups of patients being compared (Walker et.al, 2008). In this case, Walker (2008) suggested that the best way to minimize this problem is to test the outcome before the data are collected and analyzed (Walker et.al, 2008). Alex continued with his exasperated three year old logic, AJ got to watch Kung Fu Panda three times, and I only got to see it twice last night! (A. G. Neff, personal communication, October 4, 2012). The consternation arose from my insistence that a different movie should be viewed other than the same one that had been continually playing on the television set for the previous three days. My children always love repeat performances, and ever since I had pulled the DVD out of the moving boxes and told them I needed to watch it as part of my own homework, it was as if no other film would satisfy (Cobb, Stevenson Osborne, 2008). My five year old recognized that I would not allow another viewing without a change in tactics. But Mom, if you don t watch it again you won t be able to do your homework. You won t know that Po s Dad [Note: according to the movie transcript Po s Dad is the character s actual name] isn t even a panda! (Aibel Berger, 2008, p. 3). Without explaining that I had already familiar with the situation because I had seen the movie no less than three times in the previous 72 hours, I replied, Is that really important? YES! They both yelled back. AJ unwittingly enlightened me, All the animals are different, but they re ALL important! They all have to do different stuff to help Po be[come] the Dragon Warrior! (A. J. • 28. The Values Of Islam In The United States In recent years, Muslims and Arab Americans have become hot topics of conversation in politics and everyday life. Terrorist attacks and other cruel acts committed by individuals and groups who claim Islam have become quite frequent in the United States and across the globe, even in countries where Islam is the dominant faith. These acts have resulted in many people becoming cautious, fearful, and prejudiced against all Muslims and Arabs. Many of these judgements are preconceived and based off of misunderstandings and incorrect assumptions about the Islamic faith. In reality, Islamand Christianityare not so different; many of the values of Christians and Muslims actually coincide. Both Christians and Muslims believe in one true god, although Muslims use the Arabic word, Allah . There has been much debate over whether Allah is the same God that Christians believe in and follow. Some believe that it is the same God, while others disagree. Regardless, both follow one true God rather than many deities, as other religions do. Although both groups acknowledge the life of Jesus, Muslims believe Jesus to have been a simple prophet and not the son of God. This is arguably the Muslims and Christians also greatly value modesty, to different degrees. Some branches of Christianity follow strict modesty codes while other branches are more lenient. As is the case in Christianity, there are varying levels of modesty practiced by Muslims. Many Muslims believe that women... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Effects Of Underage Drinking According to the New York Times, More than 1,800 students die every year of alcohol related causes...600,000 are injured while drunk, and nearly 100,000 become victims of alcohol influenced sexual assaults (Mcmurtrie). This is the case as many students in America find happiness in the consumption of unhealthy amounts of alcohol and underage drinking. Unfortunately, these issues have been more prevalent on college campuses, where students have formed a culture of abusing alcohol. There seems to be no solution in sight as many college students fall victim to the devastating effects of alcohol abuseand underage drinking despite the legal drinking age. Regardless of the brutal effects of misusing alcohol, college students still continue to binge drink and participate in underage drinking. This leads one to wonder the cause of this destructive phenomenon. While some blame the minimum drinking age, others blame the society and the ignorance of the college students. Although these factors may contribute, in reality, college students in the U.S. tend to abuse alcohol because of their perception of alcohol and its consumption. To begin with, students think of alcohol as helpful and necessary for social engagement. This is because they are burdened with the societal pressure of fitting in when they get to college. They are placed in a new environment, where they feel they have to get acquainted with their peers in order to survive. In an article about college drinking, Dr. Jodi ... Benefits Of Roundabouts In The City Of Yucaipa In the city of Yucaipa, back in 2014, a plan was approved for the city to make several roundabouts to replace stop lights and stop signs along residential areas. They made a plan that would place 5 of these roundabouts along Avenue E and a few along Yucaipa Blvd. the plan would, in the end, cost them around $2.3 million (according to a 2013 estimate). Now Calimesa wants to follow in its footsteps and build 6 new roundabouts along County Line Rd. along with a road restoration project that will cost well over $16.4 million to complete. If they can t afford it, then they need to invest more to bring businesses and services for the people. That way, they can afford to make such a huge project plan. The mentality that roundabouts would attract tourists is the wrong one to have. They would not earn back the money that they cost the city. And while they lessen the impact of car accidents on the road, they cause more accidents as people are unfamiliar on how to enter or go through a roundabout. And they are inconvenient or maybe even intimidating for pedestrians with their design. On top of that, they are disadvantages with the many blind spots that are created, either from the driver s focus or the inconvenient decorative islands in the center of the intersection. Why are we even making roundabouts then? I don t know. Well actually I do have an idea why, but it just seems illogical to me. Possible solution number 1) Just don t build the roundabouts. Simple. Well, not really, the leftover funds need to go somewhere after all. There is a call to improve the roads in this small town in Calimesa, and after the last sudden burst of rainfall we received recently, the roads are in some really bad shape. For example Feminism believes that religion acts as a conservative force nevertheless they are against it as they believe it oppresses women by keeping women s status the same. As a result, Malinowski agrees with the fact that religion acts as a conservative force as it maintains stability by helping people to deal with anxiety, thereby stopping social disruption. Marxist believe that religion acts inevitably as a conservative force because religion is an ideological state apparatus which spreads capitalist ideas, thus maintains the social hierarchy, and in doing so maintains harmony and consensus in society. This is reinforced by Marx who claims religion is the opium of the people hence religion dulls the pain of oppression for them. This paper outlines the argument of labour as a fictious commodity using Polanyi s work. This paper first define what commodity is and what fictitious commodity is before going into deep details of this topic. Conclusions have been drawn base on the main core of the topic and critiques of fictitious commodity by Polanyi. First, a commodity is a good or service that is actively produced for sale in a labour process. A commodity can result from peasant, petty commodity, state production, cooperative production, or social enterprise as well as capitalist production what matters is its production for sale (Polanyi 2001, 71). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Polanyi nonetheless highlights that while labour, land, and money are essential to the market economy; the fact is that they are not commodities, in the sense that they are not objects produced for sale on the market. As Polanyi points out, labour is another name for a human activity which goes with life itself, which in its turn is not produced for sale but for entirely different reasons, nor can that activity be detached from the rest of life, be stored or mobilized (Polanyi 2001, 75). Similarly, land is another name for nature, which is not produced by man ; while money is merely a token of purchasing power which, as a rule, is not produced at all, but comes into being through the mechanism of banking or state finance (Polanyi 2001, 75). To include these fictitious commodities in the market mechanism means to subordinate the substance of society itself to the laws of the market (Polanyi 2001, 75). For Polanyi (2001. 76), this would inevitably result on the demolishing of society. Kierkegaard loathed how cold and detached the Christian faith had become, so he saw it fit that he remind people what being a Christian truly meant. In his famous work Fear and Trembling, Kierkegaard declares that no person has a right to delude others into the belief that faith is something of no great significance, or that it is an easy matter, whereas it is the greatest and most difficult of all things. The difficulty of faith lies in the requirement of sacrifice. The story of Abraham s near sacrifice of his beloved son, Isaac, is what Kierkegaard utilizes to demonstrate how costly faith in God is. Here is a man, who after seventy years of waiting for God s promise of offspring finally received his son, is commanded by God to slay his promised son with no stated reason for doing so. • 38. The Idea Of Natural Selection The idea of anthropocentrism provides comfort to humans. It posits that in this messy, incomprehensible world, we are still the central species. This idea allows, and even encourages, humans to view the world through a very anthropological lens and assume that, because we are the dominant and most important species, nature works in human terms and is the domain of man. The idea of creationism is very anthropocentric itself. In the Hebrew Bible, man was created before all other animals and designed in God s image. He was given domain over nature by God as well. This idea of human supremacy and exceptionalism has persisted into modernity, but the advent of Darwin s evolutionary theory altered human s perception of themselves and the natural world. The typical belief in human dominance was shaken through Darwin s idea of natural selection and evolution which posited that humans, just as all other species descended from some one prototype (484). The descendants of this one prototype evolved based on natural selection. Evolution led to the creation of all organisms, living and extinct, including humans. The theory of evolution challenged the ideas of human exceptionalism and anthropocentrism by including humans in the same category as all other organisms, organisms that we as humans feel superior to. In evolutionary theory, humans become simply another species that managed to survive the struggle for existence rather than a master of nature created in the image of ... Some people claim to have a pretty good idea of that which surrounds serial murder. Who are these deranged beasts which cause so much terror and commotion? By definition, serial killers are men or women who have taken the lives of at least three victims over an extended period of time. However, those words do not even come close to properly expressing the complexity of a psychopathic, homicidal mind. Most killers murder merely for pleasure, rather than for profit. There are a plethora of negative influences that help to push a potential killer over the edge. For example, western society s culture puts emphasis on sex and violence. Those who grow up in such an environment often become desensitized to these things and lose compassion for victims of even the most gruesome crimes. This inevitably does not mix at all well with inclinations to kill. Usually, the victims of serial murder are strangers chosen based on the difficulty of manipulating the person and vulnerability. Young runaways and prostitutes are subsequently most frequently targeted, as history has shown that there is little public outcry concerning the deaths of those types of people.
