1. What now has been out for a while now, and out of all your material so far it is my favourite
album so far. What was different about the writing process? How did it end up like it did?
The main difference was that we didn’t rush it. We played most of the songs onstage in front of an
audience before we took it to the studio. That way we could immediately tell if it was rubbish before
we went through all the trouble of recording it. As for how it ended up like it did, I think we stopped
caring if we sounded like Odd future. I’m not sure what that means, but we wanted this album to
have a different twist on it, for our songs to sound fresh and connect with a wider range of audience.
We have all had so much fun writing and recording this album, and hopefully you will love our new
album “Maybe” which is coming out later in the year.
How has the album, as a whole, been received and are you guys proud of it?
It’s been received like all our albums have, we were so shocked when our agent rang us to tell us
that “What Now” had just made 2010 first number album of the year. Overall the reaction of this
album was initially kind of mixed and eventually very positive. We’ve been changing pretty rapidly
over the course of the last 3 years so I can understand why there’s been that initial uncertainty. This
is the only record we’ve made that I’m still able to sit back and enjoy as opposed to constantly
thinking about all the things I wish we had done differently. I’m proud of all of our records, but I’m
most proud of this one. We would like to thank all our fans for all their support over the past 4
since, and our fans who have supported us before we won tops of the pops and mainly our family
and friends who come to watch us at all tours and our all ways there for us.
Your next single “It’s not you” is released soon … why did you guys pick that track and can you give
us a short breakdown of what it’s about?
We didn’t pick it as a single, the record label did, but we were pleased with the choice because it’s a
favorite of ours. It was just a really natural song to write. It’s fast and upbeat and has a lot of
immediate stuff happening, we loved working with Rita Ora who features on the track – we are all
huge fans of hers as she is massive in the Hip hop industry at the moment. Jamie came to me with
that guitar riff and I did my best Nick Lowe impression on top of it. Overall it’s about Guilt, fun, love,
heartbreak and partying. A real party starter.
You guys tour quite a bit now and we know it’s hard being away from family / friends / home.
How do you guys manage to cope with the time away? Do you guys still enjoy playing live? Why?
We don’t cope with that very well to be honest. It’s the hardest part of being a musician… not letting
all your friendships and relationships back home slip away. I do still enjoy playing live but I prefer
being in the studio much more. I get very shy on stage and that can be frustrating to deal with every
day on tour. Also Jamie is going to be a dad soon, his girlfriend; Vanessa is expecting a little girl in 2
months which we all are very excited about, so we will be having a small break then so Jamie can
spend time with his new baby.
What’s next in the camp and what can we be excited for?
We’re going to start shooting a couple videos once we get back from this tour, and then we’ll be
going into the studio to finish our next album “Maybe”. We’re also finishing up a single that’ll be

2. released later this year, hopefully. But I think we should all be most excited for the next year’s tour
dates to be released because next year’s tour is going to be bigger and better.
