This document provides a music video production diary summarizing the filming process. It includes screenshots from footage taken during production with annotations providing context. The diary notes that the student filmed most of the clips as the actors needed to focus on acting. It describes challenges like location lighting not matching the frame rate and how they were addressed. The student's role was primarily operating the camera and they aimed to keep shots consistent in style while progressing the narrative through locations and times of day. Issues around unexpected technical difficulties are discussed along with solutions employed.

1. Music Video Production Diary
Task 1
Using pre-production documentation produced in your IG2 assignment; you must work as a team to shoot your music video
rushes and record any relevant sound e.g. ambient location sound. It is expected that you will need to shoot and/or re-shoot
additional footage during this process.
You must document the production phase of your music video shoot using print screened music video shots and/or
photographs taken during the production shoot(s). Once the production phase of your music video shoot is complete, you
must upload your video print screens and/or photographs and include annotations that give the photographs context for the
viewer (your tutor). This should include information relating to your job role within the production and difficulties faced.
Where possible, describe how you successfully dealt with unexpected production issues.
All Clips used in the intro and most of the music video were filmed by be as Emma had to act in the
video, and Kelsey didn’t have a lot of hands on experience with the camera equipment (but I kept
asking them to review the footage) During the recording of the intro they were busy at the time; so I
went out and filmed this as I knew exactly what shots I needed and where to get them
This is a screenshot of the introduction in
Manchester near the Urbis, we needed lots
of different shots to show the progression
of time, the shot of the video above is a
video of traffic which I went out and
filmed on my own. The shots I got
progressively got darker due to the time of
recording.
This was one of the places we filmed, we
tried to make the introduction as shot as
possible but still showing the progression
of time an setting the scene, as our video
was narrative so we needed to cut to the
story line as quick as possible without
boring the audience
This next shot only lasts 2 seconds; Yet
again to keep everything short sweet and
to the point but still showing the
progression of time an setting the scene,
in the Mis En Scene the neon nightclub sign
is a nice accent to backlight the people I
recorded and the angle of the pavement in
relation to the grass show that there is a
struggling fight between civilisation (or
the concrete jungle that is Manchester)
and mother nature.
This is one of my favourite shots I
recorded, it uses good rule of thirds and
the line of the wall they are sat on brings
your eye to them.
In this clip my role was simple, Framed
and recorded this shot. It was a success
because not only does it help fill the video
out, but it also looks good, to give depth
2. to the video I colour corrected this piece of
video so the blacks were crushed and the
greens are boosted.
This was a good P.O.V shot of Emma (The
main female protagonist), this clip focused on
Emma’s face and everything else is Un-
focused because I opened the aperture and
lowered the iso causing the Depth of Field to
be shortened adding the “Bokeh” look to this
clip. I was recording, Emma was acting in the
video and Kelsey’s Role in this shot was just to
give feedback and so shout “action” and
“Cut”.
I can compare this clip with the previous
screenshots and this show that my ‘style’ of
filming is consistent and does not change and
because the equipment is mine I have had
time to use it so I know what looks good and
what doesn’t
To be Honest I really didn’t like the look of
this clip when it was static so I decided to
make the clips move from right to left.
One big problem I found was when we
recorded in Emma’s house, her lighting had a
refresh rate of 50fps and we were only
recording at 24 fps to keep it as cinematic as
possible. Next time filming something i will
make sure that the location lighting is ok and I
record at the same quality.
This shot was my least favourite of them all of
the Bedroom footage, it showed the leading
male protagonist in ‘His Bedroom’ The reason
why i didn’t like this shot was because the
lighting was off and made the clip very orange
and in the end I had to re do all the colour
correction just to make it a normal colour.
The role in this shot I had was to record,
although I didn’t want to shoot in this room
because I thought it may cause problems
before hand.
I love this clip and the framing I used it
complements the story line very well and I
think that is why it is so effective
