1. SOUND
Atmos
Important when cutting different parts of film/dialogue together, keeps
it coherent, working inside means there will be less wind/traffic, I need
to be aware of background noise and knowledgeable of sound levels
– a location recce will help these issues during pre-production.
Dialogue
To get crisp/clean sounding dialogue when aiming to create a stylistic
short film, also as this film will have little dialogue, what we record has
to be good material.
Pick-ups
Pick-ups are planned for specific shots, such as a character walking
across a wooden floorboard, this can be recorded separately to image
as there will be more than 1 set of footsteps heard (anything
shot/recorded after the movie has wrapped – extra) Specific to our
film will be the sound of postcards, paper, sound design to this film is
key.

2. Recording Musicians
Recording a pianist for the musical score is going to be a
challenge, however I know a film score composer
(Benjamin Squires) who has composed many for
colleagues, and would record and tailor the score to the
film

3. Working with the Equipment
In terms of making use of the university’s equipment, I
intent to take out an Audio Technica, Zoom, Boom
pole, and a small variation of microphones, to experiment
on what combination works well in different environments.
I will also seek advice from Ben Squires and Daniel
Guest, a freelance sound recordist I met on a film shoot in
Leeds & graduate from Sheffield Hallam FMP (Ba Hons).
