This presentation discusses Mupirocin 2% ointment for treating bacterial skin infections like impetigo. Impetigo is a common skin infection in children caused by Staphylococcus or Streptococcus bacteria. It starts as skin lesions that may fill with pus or fluid. Mupirocin 2% ointment works by inhibiting bacterial protein and RNA synthesis. It is applied 3 times daily for up to 10 days to treat impetigo caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. The ointment offers localized treatment with fewer side effects than oral antibiotics.
