The format of a programme can be described as its different components (or
sections) and the order in which they unfold.
1. The intro (& later, the outro) is a PTC (piece-to-camera) by the presenters,
welcoming the audience to the show.
2. A segment is a section of the programme on one particular story / issue.
3. An insert is a pre-recorded report, often on location.
4. A link is a scripted piece of dialogue which allows the presenter to move
onto the next segment.
