1. Grey Court/ BFI Challenge 5/6 July 2017
To programme a series of films from Britain on Film for one of the following
audiences:
· Families who have recently arrived in the UK
· Seniors in nursing homes
· KS2 children (7-11 years old) in after school clubs
You need to choose a range of 10 films from Britain on Film on the BFI
Player that are suitable for your audience group. The range should
include:
· Films that are shorter than 15 minutes long if possible
· That are free
· Some of which must be made before 1970
· That are from different parts of the UK
For each film you choose, you need to:
· Specify the length, the director, the year they were made
· The URL on BFI Player, if available
· Write a one paragraph synopsis that is pitched in tone and language that your
audience will understand
· Create a list of questions that will engage your audience in the film, help them
understand it, and help them find out more
How to go about the task:
· Choose your audience group, and list the kinds of thing you should take into
consideration
· Go to BFI Player on the Macs, go to Britain on Film, and scroll through the
films.
· Make a list of potential titles
· Watch up to 5 minutes of each film, checking suitability for your audience
· Choose your definitive list of 10 films
· Create a Word document, with a heading for each film, and input the
information above (length, director etc; one paragraph synopsis; list of
questions) and one or two images of the film
· Get your teacher to save the Word doc for your group
Back at School on Thursday:
· Create a PPT presentation that presents your list, the information, and some
materials that will help, eg one or two key images of or from the film
· Give your programme a strong title
· Prepare a 5 minute presentation that will ‘sell’ your programme, so the
judges can decide which idea is the strongest.
