Topic : Mud log
Mud log is accurate analysis of drilling mud
and well cutting for trace of subsurface gas
and oil.
the purpose of mud log to identify the
potential reservoir rock in the sub surface.
 Historically it is the earliest type of well log.
 This provides well owners and producers
with information about the lithology and fluid
content of the borehole while drilling.
 Although most commonly used in petroleum
exploration, mud logging is also sometimes
used when drilling water wells and in other
mineral exploration, where drilling fluid is the
circulating mud used to lift cuttings out of
the hole.
 This log is easy and cheap to operate and full
of useful information about the subsurface
condition and also detect the lithology
variation.
 In hydrocarbon,
exploration, hydrocarbon surface gas
detectors record the level of natural gas
brought up in the mud.
Mud circulation
 Mud passed form the drill stream injected
into the borehole through the drilling bit
nozzle.
 Flow back to the surface, and takes formation
fluid, gas contamination, formation cuttings
with it.
 Those cutting and gas contaminations are
separate and examine at the surface.
 The instrument with use to detect and record
the gas from the mud come form bore hole.
 It can determine gas type form C1-C5.
 It can tell us that we have reached the
reservoir.
UNIT
 part per million
 Well cutting are small rock chips, cutted by
drilling bit.
 They are flushed to surface by drilling mud.
 Those cutting examine under the UV light
and give the oil shows which that can
determine that we have reached the reservoir.
Unit
 feet
 With in the increase of depth mud logging
results are not much accurate.
 More then 18000feet the results are not
trusted. Because it take 2-3 hours from a
cutting to reach the surface. So its texture
will change and so the chemistry.
