1) An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of pH on the activity of the enzyme catalase. Catalase breaks down hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. 2) Filter paper soaked in a catalase solution was placed in test tubes containing hydrogen peroxide solutions of varying pH levels. The time taken for the filter paper to rise to the surface as oxygen bubbles were produced indicated the enzyme activity. 3) The results showed that pH affected the time taken for the filter paper to rise, with more acidic or more alkaline solutions taking longer than neutral pH solutions, demonstrating pH's effect on catalase activity.
