Microsoft Office 365 is a subscription service that provides access to Microsoft Office applications and other productivity services over the internet. It comes in several plan options for both business and personal use at different price points. The plans vary in features included, such as whether they provide online-only access or include installation of Office applications on devices. Office 365 generally provides the best experience when using the newest versions of Office. It can be used as either a cloud-based or hybrid solution working with existing on-premise Exchange servers. An alternative to Office 365 is purchasing and hosting email and other services locally, but for non-profits Office 365 often provides the most cost-effective solution.

How Using Microsoft Office 365 Can Benefit Your OrganisationBright Technology
The growth of cloud infrastructure in recent years has led to a surge in popularity of Software as a Service (SaaS) packages such as Microsoft Office 365. This popularity stems from a variety of factors, including ease of use, reduced costs, and automatic updates. Recent research by IDC demonstrates that businesses are increasingly using cloud-first procurement strategies. As
a result of this and other factors, IDC forecasts that global public revenue from IT cloud services will grow at over 19% through 2019, nearly 6 times the growth rate of IT spending growth as a whole – with spending on SaaS leading the way. Currently, almost 80% of businesses deploy or fully embrace the cloud, according to IDC. Furthermore, the percentage of companies expressing no
interest in the cloud has declined to 8% from 21% in 2014. The cloud has truly become a mainstream IT tool for most businesses, offering enhanced productivity enabling companies to improve the efficiency of their operations. This guide will explain why the cloud matters to SMEs (small and medium-size enterprises) as well as covering in detail the various features and benefits of the Microsoft Office 365 cloud bundle.

3. Basic Overview
What is Microsoft Office 365?
"Office 365" refers to subscription plans that include access to
Office applications plus other productivity services that are enabled
over the Internet (cloud services), such as Lync web conferencing
and Exchange Online hosted email for business, and additional
online storage with OneDrive and Skype world minutes for home.
1.866.9.TELTEK
4. Many Office 365 plans also include the desktop version of the
latest Office applications, which users can install across multiple
computers and devices. The Office 365 plans that are online-only are a
great choice for certain business needs, and they are compatible with
desktop versions of the latest version of Office, Office 2010, Office 2007
(with slightly limited functionality), Office 2011 for Mac, and Office 2008
for Mac.
Standard Office installs do not include Outlook or Access.
Business versions include Outlook and Pro Plus versions include Access.
Mac users have the most restricted availability (compared to
Windows based systems). No OneDrive sync app (currently in
development).
• ALL MS O365 Plans are subscription based (Monthly or annually).
• ALL MS O365 Plans offer unlimited storage via OneDrive.
• ALL MS O365 plans offer 50G of email storage
1.866.9.TELTEK
5. • O365 works best with the newest versions of Office (2010 or higher for PC) and 2011 for
Mac users. O365 will work with Office 2007 but offers limited functionality. Older versions
of Office (or Outlook, Word, etc) will not work with O365.
• An internet connection is required to install and activate all of the O365 subscription plans
as well as being able to access the cloud productivity services (email, conferencing,
Management and other services).
• As far as a Terminal Server environment, users can use an Office 365 installation on their
personal login on a virtual desktop. This desktop must be assigned to an single user in
order for this to work (this should be tested further as this was obtained from a TechNet
post by MSFT Support person). Also, this is only available via the Pro Plus installation and
subscription level. This would utilize the shared computer activation sequence.
• If someone already owns a domain (yourcompanyname.com) it can be used with O365 so
the email is personalized. If not, they can purchase and setup with O365. Either MS or the
existing domain hosting company can host the records (godaddy for example).

6. • Companies can mix and match different O365 Plan (there are
some licensing issues on some combination plans)
• If the subscription is cancelled administrators have 90 days to
remove data from the MS servers.
• Companies can upgrade plans via the Admin console
• Payment plans are all done by CC or via monthly or annual
invoices
• Companies can cancel at any time but there may be an ETF

O365 will work with Office 2007 but offers limited functionality.
Older versions of Office (or Outlook, Word, etc) will not work with
O365.
It can be used with existing local Exchange services or used as a
stand alone solution.
Need to consider bandwidth since O365 is mainly cloud based

14. Inbox Solutions
Inbox (our) Costs:
• Email box: $8/box 25G space limit
• Encryption: $1/box
• Archiving: $3/box
Inbox (Customer) Costs:
• Email box: $10/box 25G space limit
• Encryption: $2/box
• Archiving: $5/box
Misc:
• 24/7 Support
• Quick response to questions
• Assists with mail migrations from customers
1.866.9.TELTEK
15. Inbox Solutions
When and why?
• For NPs there is no reason to use this alternative vs O365
because of the cost savings to NPs from MS.
• For SMBs, again there is no particular reason to push an Inbox
alternative with the costs being as low as they are for O365. This
should be determined after a cost analysis is completed with # of
boxes, features needed (Sharepoint, local apps installed, etc) vs
not needed.
