Mount Tambora is an active stratovolcano located on Sumbawa Island, Indonesia. It was formed by subduction and rose to over 4,300 meters tall. In 1815, Mount Tambora erupted in one of the largest eruptions in recorded history, killing over 71,000 people and causing global climate effects like the "Year Without a Summer". While still considered active, its last eruption was in 1967 and eruptions since have been non-explosive.
