Cox Enterprises
Media Corporations in the Global Marketplace
Cox Enterprises, Inc. (CEI) is an Atlanta based media conglomerate that has ties into nearly all media
forms today. Since the founding of Cox Enterprises by James M. Cox in 1898, CEI has been
established as a media staple through newspapers, radio, television, cable, telephone, and Internet
communications . As of 2000, Cox Enterprises was ranked seventh in AdAge s 100 Leading Media

James M. Cox passed away in 1957 only to be succeeded by his son, James M. Cox, Jr. Cox, Jr.
entered the cable television market in 1962 with the purchase of cable systems in Pennsylvania,
California, Oregon, and Washington. The success of the radio, television, and cable systems led to the
establishment of the Cox Broadcasting Corporation, a publicly traded company on the New York
Stock exchange. In 1968, Cox Enterprises, Inc., a private company, was created through the
organization of Cox. Jr. s newspaper interests. That same year Cox Broadcasting enters into the auto
auction business in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia.
Following the death of James M. Cox, Jr. in 1982, Cox Broadcasting became known as Cox
Communications. This change was to reflect both the broadcasting and cable television industry that it
had created. In 1985, the current chairman, Garner Anthony, merged Cox Communication into the
private company Cox Enterprises, Inc. This single merger was the formation of one of the largest

The Lady Of Shalott Essay
Among the multiple tempting Pre Raphaelites paintings, The Lady of Shalott of 1888 by John William
Waterhouse (1849 1917) fascinates me the most. John William Waterhouse was a romantic artist that
has a strong love with beautiful but tragic female figures. The Lady of Shalott as one of his best
known painting illustrated part IV of great poet Tennyson s poem of a young Victorian woman s
cursed life.
The poem tells a mythical story of a beautiful woman who lives isolated on the island called Shalott,
on a river which flows downstream from King Arthur s castle reaching the town Camelot. The lady of
Shalott was imprisoned in the four grey towers and had never been seen by anyone, yet many have
heard of her lovely singing. She lives upon an undisclosed curse that banned her from looking out of
her window down to the Camelot. Therefore, day by day she weaves this colorful and magical netting
in her tower and only gazes through the reflection of reality through her mirror. One day, upon seeing
a gorgeous looking knight called Sir Lancelot passes by the river, the lady of Shalott cannot resist but
to turn around and take a glimpse at the man. With that one glance, the mirror cracks and the curse
befalls her. The painting was the visualization of her last living moments toward her tragic death. She
wears a snowy white rove and sings her last song as she sails down to the Camelot to chase after the
knight. She sings until her blooded is frozen and her eyes darken, yet she

Exothermic Reaction
In this report 3 fuels, ethanol, pentan 1 ol and 1 butanol were tested to determine the experimental heat
of combustion and to decide which would be the best fuel to take on a camping trip.
Combustion takes place when fuels react with oxygen to produce heat (E inst.com, 2015). The heat
created by the burning of fuel is used in the operation of equipment such as boilers and furnaces, as
well as heat being produced, when reactants undergo combustion CO2 (carbon dioxide) and H2O
(water) are formed as byproducts of the exothermic reaction (E inst.com, 2015).
Exothermic reactions occur when the forming of a chemical bond releases energy therefore creating an
exothermic process (Kentchemistry.com, 2015). An exothermic reaction has a negative deltaH,
because the enthalpy of the products is lower than the enthalpy of the reactants of the system
(Chemwiki.ucdavis.edu, 2015). An Endothermic reaction absorbs energy in the form of heat. In an
endothermic reaction deltaH is positive because the enthalpy of the products is higher than the
enthalpy of the reactants in the system (Chemwiki.ucdavis.edu, 2015).
Enthalpy is the amount of heat used/released in a system at constant pressure. (Chemwiki.ucdavis.edu,

To put it in another way; as society expects more from corporations, the activities from the frontier
quadrant, those that companies do to be socially responsible above and beyond what they are required
to do, shift to the lower foundation quadrant and become norms and laws. It s important to note that
activities in the instrumental civil foundation add to shareholder and stakeholder value. Frontier
Quadrants Intrinsic The top two quadrants of the matrix are called the strategic and structural frontiers.
Taken together they comprise the upper level and are called the frontier intrinsic or voluntary
activities. Activities here are defined by Martin to be those that have a negative or not immediately
apparent positive effect on shareholder value. He goes on to say that activities in the strategic quadrant
may increase shareholder value and become instrumental (move to the choice quadrant of the
foundation) by generating positive reactions from customers, employees, or legal authorities. It s
important to understand that actions in the upper left strategic quadrant are by choice of corporation
management as part of profit making strategy. Over time, these socially responsible activities can
move to the civil foundation as other companies imitate the actions and as customers come to expect
the behavior as it becomes the norm. It s important to

The Relationship Between Trauma And Addiction Essay
The Relationship Between Trauma and Addiction The experience of trauma can bring about feelings
that are difficult for anyone else to understand. The feelings become even more complicated with
addiction. It is important for practitioners to first understand the relationship of trauma and addiction
to one another. Once the relationship is better understood, connections can be made to possible
treatments and why those treatments should be used. Research testing these treatments can give
possible avenues for practitioners to venture when faced with someone who is recovering from trauma
and also facing a substance use disorder. The research available is a good start when trying to define
the relationship between this co occurring disorder.
Reviewing the Literature on Trauma and Addictions The relationship between trauma and the
possibility of addiction has been discussed often in research. In a study of alcohol dependency,
Johnson (2010) found that women who have a dependency on alcohol also show a higher prevalence
of trauma in their childhood. In this same study, Johnson (2010) also concluded that alcohol dependent
men and women experienced almost the same amount of trauma overtime. In a surprising discovery,
Johnson (2010) also found that women who were not dependent on cocaine, but were dependent on
alcohol had a higher prevalence of trauma in their childhood than all men in the study and alcohol
dependent women addicted to cocaine. Murphy et al. (2013) tested

Examples Of Thomas In The Movie Crash
The Sociology of Crash The Thomas Theorem is a sociological theorem developed in 1928 by W.I.
Thomas and D.S. Thomas that states, if men define situations as real, they are real in their
consequences. In other terms, how a person interprets the reality of a situation determines the
ramifications of the situation. There are several occurrences of the Thomas Theorem within the movie
Crash, most notably when Jean reacts in blind fear to the presence of Anthony and Peter, when Daniel
s daughter attempts to protect her father with her invisible cloak, and when Officer Hansen shoots
Peter. In the case of the carjacking of the Cabot s Lincoln Navigator, Anthony and Peter are merely
walking down the sidewalk in the Cabot s direction when Jean

Differences between Confucian and Buddhist Concept in Filial Piety
1. Background of Filial Piety in Chinese Society
Filial piety is a primary and comprehensive concept which plays a significant role in Chinese history.
The explanation of filial piety is to treat parents well in Er Ya(Su 2007,10)which is the earliest
monograph in semantic interpretation. Filial piety is not only the foundation and practical staring point
of all Chinese society relationships, but the root and essence of education and social norm as well. As
for the mainstream of Chinese traditional culture, no matter Buddhism or Confucianism, filial piety is
an important concept in both thoughts. The two schools both encourage children to show filial piety to

Tian Di Guan Jing mentioned that: one needs to repay parent s debt, all living beings debt, king s debt,
three jewel s debt (Su 2007). This combination constitutes the system of repaying debt in Buddhism.
Among the four types of debt, debt of parents has the closest relationship with us. In Buddhism
thought, love from mother is the most important, however, we can never repay this kind of selfless
love. That is to say, the essence of filial piety in Buddhism is repaying parents debt.
Compared with Buddhism, filial piety in Confucian thought is more closely related to society. There is
a famous assertion in Confucianism which is: self cultivation, family harmony, state governing and
world peace (Si Shu Wu Jing). Etiquette idea in Confucianism is used to maintain the primogeniture
system. The huge difference between Confucianism and Buddhism in that, in Buddhism, filial piety is
voluntary behavior and the essence of it is a kind of natural human feeling coming from the bottom of
one s heart without any utilitarian purpose. This is consistent with idea of equality in Buddhist
thought. However, in Confucianism, filial piety is regarded as a tool to maintain the seniority and
hierarchy in society which glosses over emotional

Stereotypes In Chris Lilley s Summer Heights High
As a society in the land down under , certain personality profiles are viewed as the class clowns of the
community, just by the way they act. Chris Lilley s cleverly produced mockumentary, Summer
Heights High (SHH), adopts these stereotypes presenting them as immensely exaggerated
representations. Lilley s show comprises of Ja mie King, a snobby and manipulative private school
girl, Mr G, a self absorbed drama teacher, and Jonah Takalua, a rebellious 15 year old boy of Tongan
descent, commonly associated with the phrase, Puck you miss . Although SHH is socially accepted as
Australian comedy by the blokes and sheilas of Straya, foreign countries don t always align with our
satirical gag shows.
In SHH, each of the characters was acted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonah is what is viewed as a delinquent child. Although, his character is the most important for SHH.
This class clown has quite the record, attending three schools in 18 months. Two of his expulsions
include setting a flame a student s locker and defecating the principles car by spray painting a penis on
the bonnet. His behaviour in SHH is by far the most ludicrous, as his difficulty in adopting t he
English language is demonstrated by his broken speech and impulsive language. Consistently naming
anyone he doesn t like as a homo and labelling a ginger coloured student as a ranga . Sorry, ranga. One
of the most absurd acts made by Jonah was when he convinced the student councillor to believe that
his father was molesting him, specifically to prevent him from doing a speech due the next day.
Possibly one of the greatest moments of Summer Heights High. However his character is a great
example of an obstacle the education system has still not overcome. Jonah is a recognisable figure in
all schools, representing the group of students that fall behind their peers due to their inadequate
learning abilities. In an attempt to cover up their failures, they show off with bravado and disruptive
behaviour. Although Lilley wears the brown face to further play the character of a Tongan teen (which
is commonly considered taboo in the film industry), some critics argue that he does not understand the
burden of being brown.

correctional officer Essay
correctional officer CAREER RESEARCH REPORT
The career I have chosen to pursue after graduation is a Correctional Officer.
Correctional Officer s have been around for a very long time and were designed to keep major
offenders off the street after they have been arrested by the Police. The offenders are put in a holding
cell at a Pre Trial Centre awaiting their court date.
Correctional Officers are a very important part of the Justice System because it keeps high profile
criminals off the street and locked up even before they are proven innocent or guilty. The Correctional
Facility in many ways is a lot like a jail, from what I saw when I toured the new Pre Trial Centre in
Port Coquitlam. There are large thick metal doors to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new prisoner is then admitted into their pod . Rather than keep ALL the inmates together in one
large group, they are broken down into smaller groups. Each group lives in their own pod. Each pod
had a central living space and outside fresh air lounge. The individual cells surround the living area
and there are three additional floors that overlook the central living space that you reach by inside
stairs. Each level contains approximately 10 individual cells. Some information was not available to
us (the public) as it is confidential. Information such as how many Officers work in a pod per shift.
The inmates are served their meals in the central living space and it the Correctional Officers job to
count everything they take. Items such as jam containers, plastic knives and forks are made into
weapons by the ingenious inmates. After they are given their meals and have had time to go to the
gym, they are then put back into their cell for the night.
Working in a Correctional Facility is a very stressful environment. Everything is done by the book and
not following the protocol could mean termination of your employment. A Corrections Officer is a
Government job which means you get a great salary that could range from $35,000.00 $70,000.00 a
year. You get great benefits with health care and dental care. There are Correctional Facilities all over
Canada, which means this job could allow you to move all over the country. Also, if you work in the

Geroge Orwell Essay
Geroge Orwell
One of the things Orwell bequeathed us was the adjective Orwellian .... It is a frightening word,
generally applied to a society organized to crush and dehumanize the individual, sometimes signifying
the alienation of that individual if he dares to rebel (Lewis 13). George Orwell, the pseudonym for
Eric Arthur Blair, depicted the importance of the individual in society and the danger of too much
community in his literature. Through his personal experiences, however, he explored the ideas of
socialism and was torn between the individual and community ideals. In his literature and his past,
Orwell spoke against movements that remove the individual, but still emphasized the importance of
community. Thus, he advocated a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He enjoyed the idea that everybody was equal, but he still showed resentment towards it. His inner
conflict between these two ideas and his experiences as a member in the Spanish Civil War caused
him to choose a median between the community ideals which he saw and the individual ideals which
he missed: I have seen wonderful things and at last really believe in socialism, which I never did
before (qtd. in Chen).
With the start of World War II, George Orwell began his fight against Nazism, fascism, and
communism. In the eyes of many, communism became interchangeable with socialism, and he
criticized writers of his time that were in support of Stalin and his socialist movement: Why should
writers be attracted by a form of Socialism that makes mental honesty impossible (qtd. in Lewis 76)?
In an attempt to pacify the radical communist movements and change imperialism, he spoke of a third
method to reform the British Empire a middle ground that would create a socialist community in
Britain. John Newsinger wrote, [He had a] call for a new socialist movement that would reject both
Communist style revolution and Labour Party reformism in favour of a third way to socialism, a third
way that he continued to call revolutionary but that was adapted to modern conditions (qtd. in Chen).
Through this, one can see that Orwell wanted to avoid such movements as communism, which
attempted to obtain control over the individual, and yet he had a need to preserve the

The Effect Of Stretching On Muscle Strength And Performance
Increased muscle strength and performance is sought after by athletes of almost every discipline, as
well as others simply looking to increases their health and fitness. Stretch and flexibility is another
area of fitness, one that is often neglected by most people. However, the effect of stretching on both
muscle strength and performance is disputed by the relatively few studies that have actually been done
on the topic. The results of the studies have ranged from concluding that stretching has a negative
effect on strength on performance to concluding that it has no effect to even concluding that it can
have a positive effect. Many factors play a role in muscle strength and performance so it is difficult to
conclusively determine what is due to stretching and what is due to one of the other variable that come
into play when exercising and training. Knowing the effect of stretching on muscle strength and
performance would allow athletes and their trainers to develop more efficient and productive training
plans to help the athletes achieve a higher level of performance.
Most people are under the impression that stretching lengthens muscles and that an increase in
flexibility is due to an increase in the length of the muscle itself. This is not accurate. Flexibility is not
achieved by having long muscles, but rather having to do with the length tension relationship of the
muscle (Magnusson 1998). There are several different theories for how stretching increases flexibility
and

The Trading Dynamics of Institutional Investors
The fraction of corporate equity owned by institutional investors has grown considerably in the past
several decades; institutional holding of shares in U.S. equities has increased from approximately 16%
in 1965 to over 50% in 2010 (Federal Reserve Board, 2011). The fact that institutional investors are
managing such a sizable wealth invested in U.S. equity market has potential important role in term of
setting market prices. The growing impact of institutional investors on capital markets has induced to
increased research on the behavior of this group of investors both by academics and policy makers,
who tend to believe that institutional investor follow momentum based strategies, and often are
alleged to herdinglike behavior and following destabilizing trading strategies.
Recent studies investigating the behavior of institutional investors document three main results. First,
institutional investors are momentum traders (buying past winners and selling past losers) and are
more likely to follow past prices (citet*{grinblatt1995momentum}). Second, Institutional investors
sometimes trade in the same direction over a period of time or engage in herding behavior
(citet{wermers1999mutual}). Finally, the contemporaneous association between changes in quarterly
institutional holding and quarterly stock returns is much stronger than the feedback trading effect
(citet{nofsinger1999herding,wermers1999mutual}).
The previous studies on the behavior of institutional investors

This problem have improved but it is still a problem caused by the DSM. DSM IV TR also does not
consider patients subjective experience of a disorder. That is, the approach is not a dimensional
approach as there is no first person report but rather, observations are usually carried out which may
neglect the more somatic and psychological processes that underlie the symptoms (Flanagan,
Davidson Strauss, 2007).3 Also, DSM causes most clinicians to be primarily concerned with the signs
and symptoms of a disorder rather than the underlying cause by giving a list of certain criteria for
diagnosis. Another weakness and debate about the DSM is that it is an unscientific system and it is the
opinion of a few powerful psychiatrists. This has raised a lot of questions and have caused people to
question the validity and reliability of the diagnostic categories as well. The validity and reliability
were especially questioned after the Rosenhan experiment in the 1970s in which it was concluded that
the sane could not be distinguished from the insane in psychiatric hospitals. Thus, even though the
reliability and validity has improved now when compared to the 1970s, it is still a weakness which I
believe could not be entirely fixed. However, validity problems of the diagnostic criteria especially
arise when children or adolescents are involved. For

It was in a speech made by the 33rd President of the United States of America, Harry Truman in which
he announced a policy that would undoubtedly shape the way his nation would be looked at for much
of the century (or at least the half of it that remained). It was in this speech that he announced his very

Initially, American leaders were unsure about how exactly containment would be implemented. Would
it be applied everywhere? Would it involve economic aid to help nations reconstruct their economies?
Would it involve military confrontation? The answer was to come soon.
In June 1947, the United States announced the Marshall Plan, intended to help economic recovery in
Europe and thus prevent the spread of Communism in a Europe that was increasingly becoming a
breeding ground of hate , thus providing a comforting environment for the rise of the Marxist
ideology. At first, the Marshall Plan seemed to be a success, with economic aid worth $17 billion
being made available to Europe and ensuring the protection of democratic governments in Turkey and
Greece. Marshall Aid did help economic recovery in Europe, erasing unemployment and improving
living standards greatly. Most Western European nations were happy to accept American aid in order
to redevelop their economies. However, Stalin forbade any Eastern European countries from accepting
the Plan and setup organizations like the Cominform and Comecon instead, to further tighten Stalin s
grip over Eastern Europe.
One of containment s major aims was also to ensure that West Germany and West Berlin could get its
economy back on track to prevent the infiltration of Communism from East Germany, controlled by
the Soviets. In 1946, the Allied zones of Germany were combined

Heavenly Treasures Atticus Finch, one of the main characters in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee,

Therefore, he chose to treat her with kindness. Easy does it, son, Atticus would say. She s an old lady

Machiavelli The Prince Essay
In The Prince and Discourses on Livy, Machiavelli breaks from the precedent set by early political
thinkers. Machiavelli unleashes a critical attack on the Church both as an institution and also as a
belief system. Machiavelli blames the institution of the Church for interfering in politics which ends
regimes. He treats the popes as though they are secular leaders who serve as examples of what a ruler
should do to maintain power. He calls it corrupt. He then criticizes the religion of Christianity for
contributing to these problems and dividing Italy. Machiavelli first targets the Church as an institution

Machiavelli has two areas of criticism. The first area indicating Machiavelli s criticism of the papacy
revolves around the expansion of the territory under control of the pope. He argues that, Alexander VI,
who, more than all the other popes there have been, demonstrated how much a pope, using both

despotically since Machiavelli sees the pope as being able to get whatever he wants by force or
fortune. Machiavelli sees this as a trend in popes to follow such as Julius II who, had opportunities to
accumulate money of a sort that had not existed before Alexander (11, p. 37). Machiavelli places a
focus on the accumulation of wealth by the popes subtly implying that wealth was important for popes
at that time. Machiavelli concludes his criticism of this procession of the popes by commenting that he
hopes the new pope, Leo X, will increase that power but also make the Church worth of respect (11, p.

The Trial On The Jury System
Introduction
Have you ever been to a trial or have you seen a trial on the television? Have you ever saw that group
of people that were sitting in a box? Or have you ever heard someone say they have to go do jury
duty? You may wondered what jury duty is. Well jury duty is service as a member of a jury in a court
of law. You may say well what is a jury? A jury is a body of people sworn to give to give a verdict in a
legal case on the basis of evidence submitted to them in court. In this paper we will talk about three
counties and how their jury system goes. And if they don t have one we will talk about what they do
for their judicial system. Jury system makes the court s trial easier and fair.

After the reviewing of the questionnaire the court will randomly select those who will be summoned
to jury duty. (Criminal Find Law) Everyone must do jury duty once every 12 months. There will be a
$1500 fine if you do not show up and perform your duty. There is two reasons on why you could be
excused. One reason is if they have a physical or mental impairment. The other reason is if attending
will cause a financial burden. (US Courts) To be on jury duty you won t have to understand English
100% you must understand it enough to be able to know what is going on. The court uses the common
language. But if you cannot understand the language at all then you could call in or have someone to
translate for you when you call into the local jury department. There is a chance that you will need to
go down there to prove that you don t speak the language. (California State Law)
Mexico Jury System
Mexico did not commonly use the jury system. The judicial protection is provided by the Writ of
Amparo. The Writ of Amparo allows the person convicted in the court of a local judge to appeal to one
of the federal judges. There trial system is based on by the Napoleonic Code. It consist of a sees of
fact gathering hearings. The judges are appointed for life. (Mex Online) The record of the proceedings
is not available to the public. That was forced on March 21, 1804. The legal system came about in

Multiple Sclerosis Theory
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system and can be potentially
disabling. It is a disease where the immune system attacks the nerve fibers and causes the nerves to
deteriorate to a point where communication problems are created between the brain and the body.
Alharbi (2015) notes that there is clear evidence linking lack of Vitamin D and the risk of getting MS.
People who live closer to the equator are less likely to get MS compared to people who live further
away. An explanation for this is that there is more sunlight near the equator. As such, the body is
exposed to more sunlight and thereby produces more Vitamin D. This research paper implies that lack
of Vitamin D may be responsible for the onset ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Critical roles that Vitamin D plays include the regulation of blood calcium, bone homeostasis, bone
metabolism, cell growth and division, and adaptive and innate immune responses. Vitamin D in the
form 1,25(OH)2D becomes functional by binding to a nuclear VDR and retinoid X receptor to control
gene transcription. Pathology is caused by the dysregulation of T cell responses. When T cells are
activated in a long lasting and problematic way, immune mediated diseases happen. A sub group of the
T cells known as the regulatory T cells, or suppressor T cells, plays an important role in modulating
the immune system, sustaining tolerance to self antigens, and stopping autoimmune disease. When
there is a deficiency of regulatory T cells, immune mediated diseases occur. As such, regulation of T
cell response is critical to the healthy functioning of the body, and to prevent chronic activation of the
T cells (Cantorna et al.

The Evolution Of The Corporation
The Evolution of the Corporation
The Evolution of the Corporation
In a capitalist society where the growth and power of corporations are ever evolving it is critical to
determine the effects and consequences this evolution brings upon the business world. The
Stockholder Theory maintains that managers should act merely as agents to the stockholder and only
serve their interests the maximization of profits (45). Milton Friedman s argument being, they are the
owners of the business, and hence they should be entitled to all profits (45). Although this simple
profit motive concept may achieve the desired result, and address all of the interests of the
stakeholders it lacks compassion that is so prevalent, and in my opinion superior, ... Show more

If law is the public s agency for translating morality into explicit social guidelines and practices it
clearly illustrates the lack of morality imposed upon society as a result of the Stockholders Theory.
According to John Stuart Mill most persons, and perhaps all, have a basic moral sensitivity to the
needs of their fellow human beings (17). This was so prominently displayed when Southeast Asia was
devastated by the recent Tsunami disaster that touched the hearts of both the public and corporate
society. Hundreds of millions of dollars were donated by the corporate sector to provide those
misfortunate people with aid. No doubt some of those corporations were displaying true social
responsibility while others were merely acting the part in order to simulate this appearance. This, in
my opinion, is the underlying difference in the two theories I am presently critiquing. Clearly Freeman
s Stakeholder theory is superior in this regard. With such massive profits accumulated by large
corporations those that decide to bear social responsibility can significantly improve society as a
whole.
Immanual Kant proposes that persons should be treated as ends and never purely as means to the ends
of others (22). Kantian ethics nicely distinguishes the difference between Friedman s

European Achievements In West Europe
Before the arrival of Europeans in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the African kingdoms and
cities had a multitude of achievements. These come from different areas, like trade and wealth, and
added to the quality of life and functionality of the respective kingdom. The African empire s
achievements were successful in the advancement of civilization. In West Africa, the kingdoms
Ghana, Mali, and Songhai gained wealth and power through their achievements. Significantly, this
would change during the fifteenth and sixteenth with the introduction of the slave trade. However,
prior to the arrival of Europeans, the African empires had prevalent achievements in traditional
societal and political structures, wealth and luxury, and trade and harvesting.
The African empires developed societal and political structures that improved its functionality.
Songhai was under the rule of Sunni Ali until his death where Askia Muhammed Toure became king
after leading a revolt against Ali s son. He expanded the empire greatly until it extended northward,
westward, and eastward to trading cities. Notably, Toure improved the political and societal structure
of his empire. He opted for a centralized administration, and organized a bureaucracy. A centralized
administration created power and organization to the Songhai empire, allowing it to function
efficiently. Additionally, a bureaucracy assisted in regulating trade. The regulation of trade allows for
the empire the flourish and increase in wealth. Also, Africans organized their societies around the
family unit much like how Askia Muhammed Toure replaced the chiefs with members of his family
(Khan Academy). Similarly, the kingdom of Ghana showed characteristics of political and societal
structure as recorded in Through African Eyes. The excerpt states that, It possessed... social
organization that ensured justice and efficient political control, a strong army equipped with advanced
weapons, and a foreign policy that led to peace and cooperation with other people. (Document 3).
Through Arab sources, Ghana is mentioned having a king and officials who surrounded the throne
(Time Maps). Many of these characteristics are evident of advanced civilization and modern political

How to Not Fail at Terraria By A Person To get started, you want to build a house at a comfortable

having a snow biome right next to you without having to go through a jungle or corruption/crimson, as
the boreal wood weapons do more damage than the wood ones. Make a boreal bow with plenty of
arrows before going into the desert. Another handy thing is a desert biome, because of sand and the
ability to completely skip wooden armour, so long as you block up the chasms with SOLID BLOCKS

may want to break one heart/orb before and one after midnight (I haven t tested this, but it should
work in theory.) This way you can harvest meteorite armour and tools before fighting the Eye of
Cthulhu, ensuring the odds in your favor. After beating the Eye of Cthulhu, you probably have enough
equipment to make better weapons, such as the Blood Butcherer and Light s Bane (NOTE: the War
Axe of the Night costs the same and does more damage than the Light s Bane, and is an axe), but don t
make the yo yo s unless you have leftover supplies because they do less damage and cost more (but
have better range.) If you have a corruption, then it is possible to farm for Ancient Shadow Scale,
although it takes forever to get one set. If, by any unlucky chance you have a Crimson, getting the
materials for gathering hellstone is going to be difficult. You may want to test your luck fishing in the

The African American Population And The Field Of Counseling
The African American population is underrepresented in the field of counseling (Williams Justice,
2010). Because African American men have a macho complex that they have to maintain, some see
going to counseling as a sign of weakness. Blacks have a mistrust that s associated with being
oppressed by Whites. Black men have been opposed to opening up and letting a stranger into their
lives. They would rather to speak with someone in their community such as family, friends, pastor, or
teachers. It s extremely important for a counselor to build rapport with clients of another race because
it s beneficial to the therapeutic process (Williams Justice).

Studies have focused on how minorities usually like to have a counselor with a similar background as
them, which presents an obstacle for students at PWU s (Speight Vera, 2005). As time evolves
counselors are becoming more culturally competent and the numbers for minorities seeking therapy
are increasing. Campus outreach programs have helped to bring students into the counseling centers.
Because there s a stigma attached to receiving counseling for Black males, if there are other services
offered at a counseling center other than counseling (for instance, massage chairs), it can help bring in
that demographic.
Students need to feel like they have something they can gain from seeking counseling. If they don t
feel like they will get that with the selection of counselors on their campus, they would rather hold
their problems in. The idea that client preferences regarding the particular characteristics of counselors
may critically influence such factors as whether the client seeks help, the duration of counseling,
subsequent client evaluation of counseling, and certain aspects of the counseling interaction has long
held currency in counseling theory and research (Strohmer, 2003). Strohmer stated that half of the
minority clientele dropout of counseling after the initial meeting in comparison to a third of the White
clients. According to the Office of Minority Health more than half of the African American population

extinction, at least according to certain scientists.
2)listener relevance: Many species go extinct daily, which ruins ecosystems and causes extinction to
other organisms that live in that environment. Which leads to extinction of larger organisms and
possibly could even lead to us.
3)speaker credibility: I believe that we need help preserve our planet and species that live here as best
as we can to prevent the destruction of Earth and the many organisms that live here. Without plants
and animals we would not be able to survive.

Though some may never be able to return to the wild if the habitat they live in is completely gone

the period of time the civil war lasted. The counsel is reviewing Madame Dove s actions on three

Most of my family lives in India, and we go to visit once in awhile. Three years ago, before we went

The Baghavad Gita, Yoga Sutras Of Patanjai, And The Hatha
The Baghavad Gita, Yoga Sutras of Patanjai, and the Hatha Yoga Pradipika are all considered to be
revolutionary texts. Their teachings depart from earlier traditions and propose many approaches to
enlightenment. Through their definition of yoga or their philosophical goals, each contain some
similarities as well as aspects that make each of them unique.
The epic text of the Bhagavad Gita defines yoga as the skill of union with the ultimate reality or the
absolute. The work comes to us in the form of dialogue between Lord Sri Krishna and the princely
warrior Arjuna, which occurs just before the onset of the devastating Mahabharata war. The Yoga
Sutras by Patanjali also define yoga as a union of the parts of ourselves, and sutra means ... Show

This first step is that the student is ready to listen. Then the student ruminates on what the guru says.
Then finally the student gets meaning from the gurus teachings based on his concentration and
meditation on it. Upanishad means to sit near which represents the relationship between the guru and
the student. In the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the system was first associated with the Nath Yogis, but also
connected to other yogis lineages of the time. The Naths recruited without the regard to caste or
religion and took many muslims, sufi fakirs and dasnamyi into their fold. Here, yoga is meant for the
good of all creatures, and a true Yogi was always desirous of benefitting as many men as possible He
will find a true and earnest student who will not trifle with this knowledge. Each of these texts

Assess the Most Important Constitutional Changes...
New Labour came into power on May 1st 1997 and pledged to undertake the most radical shift in
constitutional arrangements which would reform British constitution. Majority agree that this was a
momentous period of constitutional change, arguably the most important period of constitutional
change in Britain since the introduction of universal suffrage. However others think that it was too
radical, too unplanned and too unfinished. By the end of its first term (1997 2001), the Balir
government had enacted a substantial reform programme.
One reform introudced after 1997 was devolution. The centrepiece of Labour s programme of
constitutional reform was undoubtedly this. Referendums had been held in Scotland, Wales and

Another reason as to why it can be seen as unsuccessful is that for the Scottish, they are not allowed to
interfere with English laws apart from those that concern them, for example agriculture and education.
This can be seen as unfair because the British can make amendments to Scottish laws, this may lead to
another reason why the Scottish should have their independence. Overall it can be seen as a success
for parts of England as they were entitled to independence. In a 1997 poll, people in Scotland were
asked whether they felt they were Scottish or British. They answered as followed that 63% indicated
that they felt that they were Scottish or more Scottish than British. This would fit in with the Marshall
model those who felt that they were Scots would wish for their own Parliament. So it accomplished
the wishes of the Scots making it a success for the Scottish population.
Another reform introduced after 1997 was the Human Rights Act (1998). The Human Rights Act was
implemented in 2000 but was the basic rights that each human being is entitled to, for example,
fundamental rights, procedural rights and qualified rights. Some people may find this unnecessary as it
is common sense to know what rights you are entitled to and that having it printed as an act could
debatably have been a waste of time and the act could have just been uncodified.

Battle Ground About 4,400 colleges and universities in the United States forbid the carrying of guns

with a state like that, however, the questions still remain: Will allowing students with guns make

Literature Review A review of literature pertaining to the effects of CPOE on clinician workflow
revealed several interesting findings. Although many seemingly effective CPOEs exist, their
performance in the clinical environment is highly dependent on the perceived usability and acceptance
of the end users. The user interface design is of extreme importance. Complex sequences of action,
numerous mouse clicks, and problematic presentation of information are some barriers that can lead to
delays and errors (Khajouei, Wierenga, Hasman, Jaspers, 2011; Khanna Yen, 2014; Van Doormaal et

acceptance and optimal functioning of the system (Khajouei et al., 2011; Staton et al., 2013). The
negative impact on multidisciplinary interaction is profound, but can be facilitated by sound
communication policies (Khajouei et al., 2011; Khanna Yen, 2014; Staton et al., 2013; Van Doormaal

James Bond Sex And Violence Analysis
Within James Bond s universe, sex and violence are often the same thing.
James gun is used not as an extension of his penis, but as his penis. When in M tells him that he is
going to need a new gun because his old one no longer suffices, Fleming describes Bond s relationship
with his old gun using masturbatory terms, describing how Bond had dismantled the gun and oiled it
and packed the bullets carefully into the spring loaded magazine and tried the action once or twice,
pumping the cartridges out onto the bedspread in some hotel bedroom in Dr. No, (025,), and in a
celebration of pre existent vocabulary Bond can often be seen resting his hand on the butt of his gun.
(CR, 008)
Similarly, acts of violence are described in ways that invite the imagining of sexual acts. In the
testicular torture scene from Casino Royale, where cool Le Chiffre flogs Bond with a carpet beater,
only Fleming chooses to describe Bond s response to the torture rather than the torture itself, and
when reading the responses selectively one might think Bond s body is responding to physical
pleasure rather than pain. Fleming writes, Bond s whole body arched in an involuntary spasm. His
face contracted in a soundless scream and his lips drew right away from his teeth. At the ... Show more

In dealing with men, villains, Bond prefers to use his gun to persuade them ( times when its threat
alone had been enough to save his life) or take them out when persuasion is not an option. When it
comes to women, however, Bond s penis is usually sufficient persuasion. Pussy Galore changes sides
after sleeping with Bond (both on the field of sexual preference and loyalty of service), Vesper Lynd
does too, though rather more dramatically, and for Solitaire her attraction to Bond is the reason she
helps him, and trusts him. He is more of a man than, ironically, Mr Big

10 70 AD) built a mechanical theater which performed a play lasting 10 minutes and was operated by
a complex system of ropes and drums that might be considered to be a means of deciding which parts
of the mechanism performed which actions and when.[8] This is the essence of programmability.
Around the end of the 10th century, the French monk Gerbert d Aurillac brought back from Spain the
drawings of a machine invented by the Moors that answered either Yes or No to the questions it was
asked.[9] Again in the 13th century, the monks Albertus Magnus andRoger Bacon built talking
androids without any further development (Albertus Magnus complained that he had wasted forty
years of his life when Thomas Aquinas, terrified by his machine, destroyed it).[10]
In 1642, the Renaissance saw the invention of the mechanical calculator,[11] a device that could
perform all four arithmetic operations without relying on human intelligence.[12] The mechanical
calculator was at the root of the development of computers in two separate ways. Initially, it was in
trying to develop more powerful and more flexible calculators[13]

Compare And Contrast Mma And Boxing
A sport is a competitive game that emphasizes physical abilities. Boxing and MMA are two popular
sports. They are in the class of combat sports. Boxing is one of the oldest sports in the history of the
world. The Independent argues that the sport of boxing is one of the oldest sports still practiced to this
day. It is a sport where two opponents must face each other in the ring and fight till someone is
knocked out or until the round ends. The person with the most points which are obtained by punching
the opponent will win the match. MMA is a newer sport, a sport that has only been around for a
couple of decades. MMA is similar to boxing in a sense that two opponents fight each other. However,
there are many factors that make MMA significantly different from Boxing. ... Show more content on

There are many different variations and techniques of punching. Some of these punches are the jab,
the cross, the hook, and the uppercut. MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts. As the name states, MMA
is many different martial arts and fighting styles mixed together. Some of those martial arts and
fighting styles are Muai Thai Kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu Grappling, and variations of wrestling and boxing.
Even though they are both combat sports, Boxing and MMA are significantly different. The
Independent states that MMA has certain aspects of boxing within the technique.
The rounds and timings are very different. Bleacherreport states that in Boxing, there are six to twelve
rounds and each one lasts three minutes. Bleacherreport also states that in MMA there are three
rounds, and they all last five minutes. Both sports are similar in a sense that there are timed rounds
instead of quarters such as in other sports, but that is the only similarity because the round s timings
are different. It is significant that the timings are different because the training of the athletes will be
built around how much time that they have.
Even though both sports are considerably different, there are some similarities

President Gerald R. Ford
Introduction
Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr. was the 38th President of the United States. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Ford
went from being a son of divorcees to the leader of a nation.
Childhood
Gerald Ford was born on July 14th, 1913 in Omaha, Nebraska. His birth name was Leslie Lynch King
Jr., after his father. Ford s mother, Dorothy Ayer Gardner King, left King roughly two weeks after his
birth. Oddly enough, Ford did not know about his biological father until he was 17. Dorothy then
moved with her son to Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1916, she married a paint salesman named Gerald
Rudolph Ford, who adopted her son. Leslie Lynch King Jr. was then known as Gerald Rudolph ...

Ford did not die an unaccomplished man. Even in his early years, the man achieved many things. In
high school, Ford was a member of the honor society and both the All City and All State football
teams. Even before his presidency, the man was involved in politics. This started in 1940, when he
participated in Wendell Willkie s presidential campaign. Later, Ford and fraternity brother from the
University of Michigan, Philip A. Buchen, set up a law partnership in the place he grew up: Grand
Rapids, Michigan. During World War II, Ford joined the Navy, serving in the South Pacific and
holding the rank of lieutenant commander. In 1948, Ford became a member of Congress, which he
was a part of for 25 years. Later on, in 1965, he served the role of House minority leader. Even after
his presidency, Ford was active in politics. He went to hundreds of colleges and universities to speak
about issues such as foreign policy, Congressional relations, and federal budget policies. In 1979, Ford
released a memoir called A Time to Heal: The Autobiography of Gerald R. Ford. In 1981, the Gerald
R. Ford Library and the Gerald R. Ford Museum were dedicated. Ford went to conferences at both of
these places and would discuss various political subjects such as German reunification, relations with
the Soviet Union, and national security. One year later, Ford established the AEI World Forum. This
was a gathering of prominent world leaders and business executives to discuss issues impacted by
political and business

  • 3. The Lady Of Shalott Essay Among the multiple tempting Pre Raphaelites paintings, The Lady of Shalott of 1888 by John William Waterhouse (1849 1917) fascinates me the most. John William Waterhouse was a romantic artist that has a strong love with beautiful but tragic female figures. The Lady of Shalott as one of his best known painting illustrated part IV of great poet Tennyson s poem of a young Victorian woman s cursed life. The poem tells a mythical story of a beautiful woman who lives isolated on the island called Shalott, on a river which flows downstream from King Arthur s castle reaching the town Camelot. The lady of Shalott was imprisoned in the four grey towers and had never been seen by anyone, yet many have heard of her lovely singing. She lives upon an undisclosed curse that banned her from looking out of her window down to the Camelot. Therefore, day by day she weaves this colorful and magical netting in her tower and only gazes through the reflection of reality through her mirror. One day, upon seeing a gorgeous looking knight called Sir Lancelot passes by the river, the lady of Shalott cannot resist but to turn around and take a glimpse at the man. With that one glance, the mirror cracks and the curse befalls her. The painting was the visualization of her last living moments toward her tragic death. She wears a snowy white rove and sings her last song as she sails down to the Camelot to chase after the knight. She sings until her blooded is frozen and her eyes darken, yet she ... • 4. Exothermic Reaction In this report 3 fuels, ethanol, pentan 1 ol and 1 butanol were tested to determine the experimental heat of combustion and to decide which would be the best fuel to take on a camping trip. Combustion takes place when fuels react with oxygen to produce heat (E inst.com, 2015). The heat created by the burning of fuel is used in the operation of equipment such as boilers and furnaces, as well as heat being produced, when reactants undergo combustion CO2 (carbon dioxide) and H2O (water) are formed as byproducts of the exothermic reaction (E inst.com, 2015). Exothermic reactions occur when the forming of a chemical bond releases energy therefore creating an exothermic process (Kentchemistry.com, 2015). An exothermic reaction has a negative deltaH, because the enthalpy of the products is lower than the enthalpy of the reactants of the system (Chemwiki.ucdavis.edu, 2015). An Endothermic reaction absorbs energy in the form of heat. In an endothermic reaction deltaH is positive because the enthalpy of the products is higher than the enthalpy of the reactants in the system (Chemwiki.ucdavis.edu, 2015). Frontier Quadrants Intrinsic The top two quadrants of the matrix are called the strategic and structural frontiers. Taken together they comprise the upper level and are called the frontier intrinsic or voluntary activities. Activities here are defined by Martin to be those that have a negative or not immediately apparent positive effect on shareholder value. He goes on to say that activities in the strategic quadrant may increase shareholder value and become instrumental (move to the choice quadrant of the foundation) by generating positive reactions from customers, employees, or legal authorities. • 6. The Relationship Between Trauma And Addiction Essay The Relationship Between Trauma and Addiction The experience of trauma can bring about feelings that are difficult for anyone else to understand. The feelings become even more complicated with addiction. It is important for practitioners to first understand the relationship of trauma and addiction to one another. Once the relationship is better understood, connections can be made to possible treatments and why those treatments should be used. Research testing these treatments can give possible avenues for practitioners to venture when faced with someone who is recovering from trauma and also facing a substance use disorder. The research available is a good start when trying to define the relationship between this co occurring disorder. Reviewing the Literature on Trauma and Addictions The relationship between trauma and the possibility of addiction has been discussed often in research. In a study of alcohol dependency, Johnson (2010) found that women who have a dependency on alcohol also show a higher prevalence of trauma in their childhood. In this same study, Johnson (2010) also concluded that alcohol dependent men and women experienced almost the same amount of trauma overtime. In a surprising discovery, Johnson (2010) also found that women who were not dependent on cocaine, but were dependent on alcohol had a higher prevalence of trauma in their childhood than all men in the study and alcohol dependent women addicted to cocaine. In Buddhism thought, love from mother is the most important, however, we can never repay this kind of selfless love. That is to say, the essence of filial piety in Buddhism is repaying parents debt. His behaviour in SHH is by far the most ludicrous, as his difficulty in adopting t he English language is demonstrated by his broken speech and impulsive language. Consistently naming anyone he doesn t like as a homo and labelling a ginger coloured student as a ranga . Sorry, ranga. One of the most absurd acts made by Jonah was when he convinced the student councillor to believe that his father was molesting him, specifically to prevent him from doing a speech due the next day. Possibly one of the greatest moments of Summer Heights High. However his character is a great example of an obstacle the education system has still not overcome. Jonah is a recognisable figure in all schools, representing the group of students that fall behind their peers due to their inadequate learning abilities. In an attempt to cover up their failures, they show off with bravado and disruptive behaviour. It is a frightening word, generally applied to a society organized to crush and dehumanize the individual, sometimes signifying the alienation of that individual if he dares to rebel (Lewis 13). George Orwell, the pseudonym for Eric Arthur Blair, depicted the importance of the individual in society and the danger of too much community in his literature. Through his personal experiences, however, he explored the ideas of socialism and was torn between the individual and community ideals. His inner conflict between these two ideas and his experiences as a member in the Spanish Civil War caused him to choose a median between the community ideals which he saw and the individual ideals which he missed: I have seen wonderful things and at last really believe in socialism, which I never did before (qtd. in Chen). With the start of World War II, George Orwell began his fight against Nazism, fascism, and communism. In the eyes of many, communism became interchangeable with socialism, and he criticized writers of his time that were in support of Stalin and his socialist movement: Why should writers be attracted by a form of Socialism that makes mental honesty impossible (qtd. in Lewis 76)? In an attempt to pacify the radical communist movements and change imperialism, he spoke of a third method to reform the British Empire a middle ground that would create a socialist community in Britain. John Newsinger wrote, [He had a] call for a new socialist movement that would reject both Communist style revolution and Labour Party reformism in favour of a third way to socialism, a third way that he continued to call revolutionary but that was adapted to modern conditions (qtd. in Chen). The Effect Of Stretching On Muscle Strength And Performance Increased muscle strength and performance is sought after by athletes of almost every discipline, as well as others simply looking to increases their health and fitness. Stretch and flexibility is another area of fitness, one that is often neglected by most people. However, the effect of stretching on both muscle strength and performance is disputed by the relatively few studies that have actually been done on the topic. The results of the studies have ranged from concluding that stretching has a negative effect on strength on performance to concluding that it has no effect to even concluding that it can have a positive effect. Many factors play a role in muscle strength and performance so it is difficult to conclusively determine what is due to stretching and what is due to one of the other variable that come into play when exercising and training. Knowing the effect of stretching on muscle strength and performance would allow athletes and their trainers to develop more efficient and productive training plans to help the athletes achieve a higher level of performance. Most people are under the impression that stretching lengthens muscles and that an increase in flexibility is due to an increase in the length of the muscle itself. This is not accurate. Flexibility is not achieved by having long muscles, but rather having to do with the length tension relationship of the muscle (Magnusson 1998). The Trading Dynamics of Institutional Investors The fraction of corporate equity owned by institutional investors has grown considerably in the past several decades; institutional holding of shares in U.S. equities has increased from approximately 16% in 1965 to over 50% in 2010 (Federal Reserve Board, 2011). The fact that institutional investors are managing such a sizable wealth invested in U.S. equity market has potential important role in term of setting market prices. The growing impact of institutional investors on capital markets has induced to increased research on the behavior of this group of investors both by academics and policy makers, who tend to believe that institutional investor follow momentum based strategies, and often are alleged to herdinglike behavior and following destabilizing trading strategies. Recent studies investigating the behavior of institutional investors document three main results. First, institutional investors are momentum traders (buying past winners and selling past losers) and are more likely to follow past prices (citet*{grinblatt1995momentum}). Second, Institutional investors sometimes trade in the same direction over a period of time or engage in herding behavior (citet{wermers1999mutual}). That is, the approach is not a dimensional approach as there is no first person report but rather, observations are usually carried out which may neglect the more somatic and psychological processes that underlie the symptoms (Flanagan, Davidson Strauss, 2007).3 Also, DSM causes most clinicians to be primarily concerned with the signs and symptoms of a disorder rather than the underlying cause by giving a list of certain criteria for diagnosis. Another weakness and debate about the DSM is that it is an unscientific system and it is the opinion of a few powerful psychiatrists. This has raised a lot of questions and have caused people to question the validity and reliability of the diagnostic categories as well. The validity and reliability were especially questioned after the Rosenhan experiment in the 1970s in which it was concluded that the sane could not be distinguished from the insane in psychiatric hospitals. Thus, even though the reliability and validity has improved now when compared to the 1970s, it is still a weakness which I believe could not be entirely fixed. At first, the Marshall Plan seemed to be a success, with economic aid worth $17 billion being made available to Europe and ensuring the protection of democratic governments in Turkey and Greece. Marshall Aid did help economic recovery in Europe, erasing unemployment and improving living standards greatly. Most Western European nations were happy to accept American aid in order to redevelop their economies. However, Stalin forbade any Eastern European countries from accepting the Plan and setup organizations like the Cominform and Comecon instead, to further tighten Stalin s grip over Eastern Europe. It is a disease where the immune system attacks the nerve fibers and causes the nerves to deteriorate to a point where communication problems are created between the brain and the body. Alharbi (2015) notes that there is clear evidence linking lack of Vitamin D and the risk of getting MS. People who live closer to the equator are less likely to get MS compared to people who live further away. An explanation for this is that there is more sunlight near the equator. If law is the public s agency for translating morality into explicit social guidelines and practices it clearly illustrates the lack of morality imposed upon society as a result of the Stockholders Theory. According to John Stuart Mill most persons, and perhaps all, have a basic moral sensitivity to the needs of their fellow human beings (17). This was so prominently displayed when Southeast Asia was devastated by the recent Tsunami disaster that touched the hearts of both the public and corporate society. Hundreds of millions of dollars were donated by the corporate sector to provide those misfortunate people with aid. No doubt some of those corporations were displaying true social responsibility while others were merely acting the part in order to simulate this appearance. This, in my opinion, is the underlying difference in the two theories I am presently critiquing. Clearly Freeman s Stakeholder theory is superior in this regard. With such massive profits accumulated by large corporations those that decide to bear social responsibility can significantly improve society as a whole. • 26. European Achievements In West Europe Before the arrival of Europeans in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the African kingdoms and cities had a multitude of achievements. These come from different areas, like trade and wealth, and added to the quality of life and functionality of the respective kingdom. The African empire s achievements were successful in the advancement of civilization. In West Africa, the kingdoms Ghana, Mali, and Songhai gained wealth and power through their achievements. Significantly, this would change during the fifteenth and sixteenth with the introduction of the slave trade. However, prior to the arrival of Europeans, the African empires had prevalent achievements in traditional societal and political structures, wealth and luxury, and trade and harvesting. The African empires developed societal and political structures that improved its functionality. Songhai was under the rule of Sunni Ali until his death where Askia Muhammed Toure became king after leading a revolt against Ali s son. He expanded the empire greatly until it extended northward, westward, and eastward to trading cities. Notably, Toure improved the political and societal structure of his empire. He opted for a centralized administration, and organized a bureaucracy. A centralized administration created power and organization to the Songhai empire, allowing it to function efficiently. Additionally, a bureaucracy assisted in regulating trade. The regulation of trade allows for the empire the flourish and increase in wealth. Also, Africans organized their societies around the family unit much like how Askia Muhammed Toure replaced the chiefs with members of his family (Khan Academy). Similarly, the kingdom of Ghana showed characteristics of political and societal structure as recorded in Through African Eyes.
